You groaned as you stared at the 50 flashcards on your desk, as well as multiple books and resources. You had an upcoming mid-term exam for Physiology, and you couldn’t focus at all. You had gone to the library, that didn’t work. You went to a quiet cafe, that didn’t work either.

You hated Physiology. You hated it in high school, and you hate it even more now in college. It didn’t help that your professor didn’t like you either, you would easily lose concentration and embarrassment would consume your body when the professor would call you out on it.

As you’re staring blankly at the mess on your desk, four knocks on your door snap you out of your trance. You quickly scramble to get up, making your way towards your dorm door and opening it, revealing your caring boyfriend Jisung standing at your door with junk food in his hands.

“Ji what are you doing here?” You question curiously, you didn’t message him to come over, so you were curious as to why he was standing outside your dorm.

“Can’t I pay my beautiful soon-to-be wife a visit?” He pouts, yelping seconds afterwards after you had smacked his arm. “Shut up just get inside already.”

“So bossy…” He trails off, walking into your dorm room and setting the bag of goodies on your bed. You take a seat on your desk chair once again and went back to staring at the flash cards that you didn’t hear the sound of your boyfriend's voice calling you multiple times.

“Y/n!” He shouts, shaking your shoulders snapping you out of another trance. “What is up with you? You’re pretty out of it today.” You sigh, tears welling up in your eyes.

“Sungie I’m so stressed about this exam…I can’t afford to fail but I just can’t seem to concentrate.” You whisper loud enough for him to hear as you play with your fingers.

“Hey, baby it’s okay. That’s what I’m here for, to help you.” His quiet, comforting voice sending butterflies to your stomach. “Can you…?” You ask, voice barely above a whisper.

“Of course, I can my love. Here let’s do this, go over the flash cards and when you’re done, I’m going to quiz you. But here’s the deal, for every question you get correct I’ll kiss you~” He smiled widely and quickly kissed your cheek. You gave him an “okay” and immediately started studying.

“Okay I'm done!” After almost an hour of studying, you were sure you had it all memorized by now, waiting eagerly for the brown-haired male to start quizzing you.

“Awesome! Give me the flash cards.” He snatched the flash cards from your desk just as you were about to reach for them and cleared his throat.

“Alright babe first question, what is the concave medial surface of the kidney?”

“Hilus.” You stated proudly, Jisung looking at you with a wide smile, leaning in to give you a quick peck on the lips. “Mm I’m gonna enjoy kissing your lips a lot today.”

“Shush it! Next question.”

“What is a renal cortex?” He looked up from the flash card, taking a look at you as you tried hard to remember.

“Ooh, I guess miss smarty pants over here is getting this one wrong~” He teased, earning a scoff from you.

“I got it! The renal cortex is the outer portion of the kidney which contains capillary tufts and convoluted tubes!”

He nods, smiling as he leans in to give you another quick kiss on the lips. Your lips linger against each other for what seems like forever, and he quickly leans in to get another taste. The way your plump soft lips fit perfectly with his like a missing puzzle piece.

You giggle, too focused on Jisung kissing you than studying. You groan against his lips and gently push his chest, his whines making you chuckle.

“Sorry Ji, we can continue this later, but I actually need you to help me with this.” You softly say to him, an apologetic look on your face as you stare at his pouty one.

“It’s okay Y/n, but after we’re done you have to promise you’ll kiss me some more!”

“Yeah, yeah I promise now actually help me.”

Okay so, Hemlock, big bad evil man that yoinked our Crosshair.

What I'm intrested in about him, is the Gas that he used in Ep.14, Tipping point. Crosshairs already weak, we can see that, and Resonably so. Before he even gets in the room he's stumbling around, missing shots, he wouldn't have had a chance to handle any sort of Toxin.

Let alone hemlock, a deadly plant that can result in death. And I think that's what the gas is, hemlock.

So hemlock has alot of affects, ingesting it can leave someone experiencing central nervous system depression, respiratory failure, acute rhabdomyolysis, acute renal failure and death. And even when it's just inhaled through a smoke form it can still give someone Central nervous system depression, and respiratory failure.

The symtoms of Hemlock poisoning? From the ones I could see in that animation, Which cannot display alot of the symptoms (High blood pressure, restlessness or confusion, dry mouth etc.) There were still some that Crosshair displayed.

-Mussel weakness, Barley moments into the toxins release Crosshair collapses, yes this could be a symptom of his previous weakness. But prior to the gases release nothing major happened that would have decreased his motor function so quickly, other than the toxins effects. Crosshair is also depicted not long after falling over, trying to push himself up but not having the core strength to do so, this could be argued as respiratory failure. Which he starts to experience, but it's to soon in the prosses to have that much of a hold on him.

-Dilated pupils, From the scene when the gas first entered the room, to the scene where Crosshair had collapsed his pupils had Dilated. (Dialate, for something to expand.)

-Rapid heartrate, even though we couldn't get a visual of this, before the Guard takes him away we can here his hearybeat, and we can here it start to pick up before he fall unconscious (Although the heartrate does slow down right before he loses consciousness, this can be explained by anouther symtom).

-Restlessness and Confusion, I put this down as one of the thing that couldn't be depicted in the visuals, because we can't know if Crosshair feels Confusion in the moment. But I believe a depiction of this, is the way he hears Hemlocks voice while he speaks, the effects on it could be the visual representation of Crosshairs Confusion.

Another thing I want to touch on, is the respiratory failure and central nervous system depression. Although they can't be shown to their full extent in the short time frame, they play a part in the scene.

-Respiratory failure, Very quickly it shows Crosshair struggling to breath, the coughing and short breaths is true to that. The coughing? Not so much, but how short, cut off and quick his breaths become shows a struggle. You can see this in his movements, how after he falls his chest will rapidly rise and fall through the majority the continuing scene, but slow down right before he loses consciousness.

-Central Nervous system depression, The central nervous system depression (CNSD) is a less likely part in how the scene plays out. CNSD is "a physiological state that can result in a decreased rate of breathing, decreased heart rate, and loss of consciousness, possibly leading to coma or death." We see this clearly in afew ways, the loss of consciousness happens quickly, both by his weakened state and by a decreased rate of breathing (Which was touched on in Respiratory failure). However it could also be cause by a decreased heartrate, yes, I had mentioned Crosshairs heartrate picking up during the scene, but I also mentioned how it slowed just before he lost consciousness. This skipping heatbeat could be a symptom of his heartrate decreasing, conflicting with the rapid heart rate symptom. While it could also just be a sign of his lose of consciousness, which is why I don't think the decreased heartrate plays a big role in the bigger picture.

If I could, I'd line up the treatments for Hemlock posioning with what we see of Crosshair in the final episode of S2, But I have no understanding on Starwars medical procedures and wouldn't have a hope of lining that up with the real world methods.

Uh, how do you even end this? It's like school speeches, just copy the introduction and change up the words- But that Dosn't really work when your Intro's 'Big bad evil man'.

Anyway I think that Toxin shown in Ep.14 is some modification of the alkaloid toxins found in actual hemlock plants.

Today is a big study/review day, mainly anatomy and pharmacology. Gonna try to review some respiratory physiology and renal pathology as well. It doesn’t feel real that my exam is coming up in a week. On another note, this is possibly one of the prettiest cortados I’ve ever had the pleasure of drinking.

ghoul blood and science talk?? my interest is piqued 👀

Okay so like I’ve talked about ghoul bloods before (a lot more coherently. If ghoul blood is interesting to you please go look at those lol) I think under “ghoul blood stuff” tag which I’ll slap on this too BUT: Welcome to Drunk Kait’s Science Corner now :) (there is some ghou blood lore in this after the rant don’t worry but also I got big mad about coag so >:( )

The coagulation cascade (pathway that happens in the body to make clotting and coagulation of blood happen) is fucking stupid! There’s two pathways that meet in the middle, which like okay physio is weird that’s okay, but one side starts with VII and the other with XII. The things got named in order of discovery, not in order of the cascade so it’s all out of order and everything is roman numerals (STUPUD). But also all the numbers also have a written name which are stupid. And the early things are usually referred to as their number and the later stuff by their name which is also stupid and I FUCKING HATE IT. Factor IV is literally just calcium like just SAY CALCIUM?! One of them is called Christmas Factor (why?????)

Anyways so I’ve decided that since ghoul blood is different anyways I’m REINVENTING the coag cascade for ghouls! I still have not finished formulating how Ghoul hematopoietic stuff works (working on it!) and how it relates to renal physiology (important in humans, could be fun in ghouls) but I have decided this: I’m remaking the coag cascade to make sense! This effects nothing and matters to nobody but makes me happy so that’s enough

Now it’s just the numbers for ghouls and they are going in order now! One side goes 6->7 and the other can go 1-2-3-4-5->7 and now they have met up at 7 and we can continue on from there. Factor 13 can stay though I like him :) he’s at both the beginning and end which feels cyclical yay

Okay ghoul blood thoughts!: instead of calcium taking part in the cascade it’s phosphorus (they are sort of buddies in an inverse relationship in serum chemistry so I like that they are using the opposite thing). Due to this a lot of common anti-coagulants don’t work on ghoul blood. In the infirmary they have special blood collection tubes just for the ghouls.

My original point that I was ranting about to friend before I got distracted by coagulation is that if elemental affinity has an affect on blood type like I’ve talked about before, then I feel that it should also effect what their hematology results like a cbc or manual diff. Fire ghouls are kind of anemic but that’s their normal so it’s fine. Quintessence ghouls have weird white cell morphologies; they tend to stain deeper and have weird nucleus shapes!!!

I also feel like Rain has hemophilia but haven’t decided which type

Im going to try my best to remember to come back to this tomorrow and make it make sense more but oh well for now :)
