Not to localizationpost but the reason Daigo's line sounds off is because it is <3 Not in that it's a mistranslation per se... He was saying he felt like he was the only coward among them, and "You're making me look like I have no balls." is One Way You Could Put That I Guess, but it loses his established character voice and is at odds with the delivery.

It's actually even more Kansai-like in the dub script, since dropping the G like this is near-exclusive to Kansai:

In Gaiden, I've noticed there's been a significant hemorrhaging of dialects that has at best been hastily cleaned-up. It's most evident with Nishitani III because he was, practically up until release day, localized like he's from Kansai even though he doesn't speak Kansai at all. I think I last talked about that before the game came out, but having experienced the game, there are still remnants of that in parts of the sub script and especially the dub script. You can also see it pop up with Kiryu using words like " 'bout" and " 'course," which He Would Not Say.

The introduction of slang where it doesn't really belong and the mixups with the dialects are relatively minor issues... until you have the accidental sexual abuse censorship fiasco on your hands because you decided to translate from Kanto rather than Kansai... lol...

In that instance and that instance only I feel entitled to monetary compensation from the localization team for all 60+ tweets I had to see questioning Shishido's abuse (yes I counted) (for this week's/tomorrow's video) because GODDDDD I can't even blame the players at that point... I just feel it fundamentally changes how you look at Shishido and Nishitani As Characters I will neverrrrr be over it I'm sorry...

On another note, while I'm talking about Shishido, setting aside the many actual mistranslations with his dialogue, I do kind of feel like they struggled with his character voice. He's notably much more polite than you'd expect, and I could tell the effect Yokoyama and Furuta were originally going for was something along the lines of the contrast between Mine and Jo's usual formality (depending on who they're addressing anyway Lol) and how vulgar and aggressive they get when they snap, just with the added layer of Shishido not looking as outwardly professional/put-together as those two.

Like. Y'know. It's not that Kansai is casual in and of itself, it's that many Kansai characters speak more casually and there's a higher ceiling for how colorful their language can get, but you still have to keep the individual character's voice in mind... Shishido also slips into the Kanto dialect on occasion, which has interesting implications for his character, and it's somewhat disappointing to not see that noted when the team for K2 did note when Sayama switched accents lol...

Anyway none of that matters what does matter is that in the scene you were referencing, in spite of making Daigo's line more vulgar than it is, they replaced Shishido calling everyone "dickcheeses" with "pricks" LIKE C'MOOONNNN YOU'RE TELLING ME JO CAN TALK ABOUT TEATS BUT SHISHI CAN'T GET PROPER NARSHTY... I get that it's kind of an unwieldy phrase but c'mooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnn it's his birthdayyyyy

I love Cave Story, to the point where I bought like 3 different ports as a kid. The 3DS one is the last one I got and I was so mad that it cost so much for no real improvements. Didn't know about the frame rate thing, that's neat.

What's the weirdest port change you know of?

-the original launch day release of the wiiware port, which was visibly unfinished and broken to shit. the new ost was missing instruments due to a broken soundfont, the original ost was noticeably compressed OGGs because organya playback was broken, sound effects were totally fucked and a bunch of graphics were broken or unpolished. my favourite part is the unfinished 2x sprites having a weirdly effeminate quote facepic clearly edited over the unused sue one

-the dsiware port has really weird pitch issues on the music because they had to hack organya into working on the DS sound hardware. honestly it's kinda charming compared to how fucked some other ports are

-the entirety of cave story 3d. the whole thing. it should be noted that this is an entirely different version than the one on the eshop for some reason. 3D Ballos Model. personally i'm a big fan of the shoved-in extra rooms that rely entirely on the 3D model taping with terrible mapping in the actual game data, and all the extra heart containers shoved in to make the game easier. also the inventory is super broken and lets you swap the script files between two maps which is extremely fun to fuck around with

-the version of Cave Story + (PC, which is entirely different than the one on switch) on GOG is a completely different build than the one on steam. they have the exact same content, the GOG one is just hastily ported to a newer engine. badly

-the switch port adds blocks that let you retry the funny booster jump which is a coward's choice. strafing and puppy stacking too. and multiple jellyfish juices. take those backtracks like god intended

and one last little bit of trivia relevant to all versions of the game. both translations are wrong on balrog. he didn't have a catchphrase he just made sounds of exertion busting through the door at the start and then there's just the sound of him falling in every other time he shows up. both "huzzah" and "oh yeah" were inventions of the translation, and also yet more proof that nicalis basically just taped their translation over the fan tl

Sin and Punishment (2000)

once upon a time, a small company called Treasure existed. they made a bunch of awesome games but none of them sold particularly well, but that didn't stop them. until the early 2010's in which case they actually did stop. oops. either way they had a bunch of cult classics under their belt and had the idea to partner up with nintendo themselves to work on their first fully 3D game.

thus Sin and Punishment was made and it sold twelve billion copies and solved world hunger and world peace was finally achieved. just kidding, no one bought it because it was a japan exclusive N64 game, a country the N64 did awful in. a north amercian release was in mind from the very beginning (to the extent that all the voice acting is in english and not japanese) but it was cancelled because nintendo are cowards. thankfully they rectified this mistake in 2007 when it got released on the virtual console and it's been playable on all their main home consoles ever since. about time.

so what's the deal? why's this game so good? think star fox 64 with the plot of end of evangelion. it's a rail shooter where you have a rapid fire gun, the ability to melee enemies if they get too close, and a player character bound to the laws of gravity that can walk from left to right, jump, and dodge roll. there is also a worthless lock on mode that you should never use.

what follows is a non-stop barrage of action, explosions and vast amounts of awesome boss fights. so, like the best kinda games treasure made. BUT IN 3D!!!!!!! it's always a rush of energy and fun and there's never a dull moment. but it comes at a price: this game is horrifically short. you can easily beat the entire game in around 40 minutes, and aside from unlocking harder difficulties there's not that much of a reason to play again. except yes there is because the game is fun as balls and you can replay it to get a high score. i guess what im trying to say is think of this more as an arcade game rather than a full fledged AAA adventure, and you'll be good.

if you bought this game back when it first came out (somehow) the steep price would've been an issue. but if you have the nintendo switch online expansion pass, this is included in the nintendo 64 catalog for the low low price of 0 dollars. i mean, besides paying for the expansion pass but. you know what i mean. or you could pirate it that's fine too. either way, play this game however you can, it's the very definition of short but sweet. definitely treasure's best game on the N64, just narrowly beating mischief makers, and honestly one of the best games on the N64 in general. play it, you won't be disappointed.

NOTE: my favorite part was when saki turned into EVA-01 and said "AWW YEAH IT'S SIN AND PUNISHMENT TIME" and he sinned and punished the evil twin clone of the planet earth so hard it exploded. this joke is still funny right.

I was tagged by @episims 1. What’s your favourite sims death? My Sims rarely die of anything other than old age, but I think the satellite death is pretty neat.

2. Alpha CC or Maxis Match? I find that a mix of both gives me more freedom and helps me make my sims look more unique.

3. Do you cheat when your sims gain weight? No.

4. Do you use move objects? Yes.

5. Favorite mod? ACR, which is quite funny because I did not want to download it for so many years because I liked being in control of my sims. Now I prefer to give them some more free will, makes the game more dynamic. Moral of the story: Try some new things from time to time.

6. First expansion/game/stuff pack you got? Unleashed for The Sims 1. I feel old now.

7. Do you pronounce “live mode” like aLIVE or LIVing? I used to pronounce it as in "alive", but lately I somehow switched more to "living". I don't even know why.

8. Who’s your favorite sim that you’ve made? Fun fact, but I've always prefered to play with the premades. It's not just a trend for me lol

9. Have you made a simself? Years ago but I never really played with her. As I said, I've always prefered the premades.

20. How has your “sim style” changed throughout your years of playing? When it comes to play style, I give my sims more freedom now than I did years ago. I embrace the chaos. When it comes to visuals, I have switched from alpha to clay hair about a year ago. I hated clay hair at first, now alpha is starting to look weird to me lol

22. Who’s your favorite CC creator? This is like asking me who my favourite child is (psst, it's @platinumaspiration)

23. How long have you had a simblr? About one and a half years, I think.

24. How do you edit your pictures? For CC previews, I crop them and add some very basic shadows and slightly tweak the saturation if necessary. I don't do much though, ReShade does most of the work. I don't do anything with gameplay screenshots other than cropping.

25. What expansion/game/stuff pack do you want next? Ngl, it would be kind of funny if EA finally added a funeral party to TS4 to officially kill the game off and release TS5.

Going in for round 2!

I had a lot of fun with my Debrief for "Stone-Cold Lovers (Ch. 3)," and I think there's a bunch of interesting, insightful aspects to my writing here given Splatoon's setting offers plenty of aquatic-themed worldbuilding.

So, let's get into it! Check out my full author's commentary below the cut — but only after you've had the chance to read "By Moonlight," my latest Splatoon fanfic.

I've been playing Splatoon since the 2015 original on Wii U. But to be completely honest, the series never hit me until Splat3. I never bought Octo Expansion (though I did watch most of it), so "Return of the Mammalians" may have just become the first time I truly appreciated how insane the series' lore is. Playing through the final battle during a road trip back from San Francisco with a couple of buddies is something I'll remember forever.

I also fell in love with Shiver and Marie as a couple, spawning a whole host of fanfictions.

But that's neither here nor there. Because this story is about Pearlina.

Another consequence of my foolishness circa Splatoon 2 is I didn't realize how much I liked Off the Hook's music. In fact, the origins of this very fanfic came from a brief obsession with Marina's piano-playing prowess on songs like "Tentacle to the Metal" when Splatoon 3 released in 2022. A connection to the 1st Movement of "Moonlight Sonata" was baked into the premise by their similar set of three notes playing in succession.

Though, I should be clear: I am not a classical music nerd, nor any kind of music nerd. I have a pretty terrible ear for music, and as a result don't listen to much (video game soundtracks notwithstanding, most of my ambient noise is YouTube videos, TV, or podcasts).

If we want to get really deep into the weeds of how pathetic I am, my main attachment to "Moonlight Sonata" stems from Hamtaro: Ham-Ham Heartbreak (2002) on the GBA.

My rendition of Marina playing the song even ends at essentially the same point as this game's usage, since it's baked into my soul.

That being said, I largely based the in-universe playing on this video by Rousseau, a YouTube channel that creates fancy visuals for piano covers of classical and pop music:

My original plan was to have Eight gift the Beethoven book to Pearl and Marina as an oddity acquired through raiding Grizzco facilities following "Return of the Mammalians." However, the idea came back in full-force with the release of Splatoon 3: Side Order. There was a brief period where I considered applying to the Pearlina zine "You and Me Against the Universe!" with something similar, but that was before I fell into my drive to write for zines.

Side Order definitely feels like a test run for more fleshed-out Roguelike modes in future Splatoon games, but I'm enjoying it all the same. And I just had to include tidbits of lore like Eight joining Off the Hook's world tour.

As one final note on "Moonlight Sonata," this is the first time I've written a musical performance as prose. My Mariver fic "Harmonic Frequencies" ends with a bit of choreography for Deep Cut's tribute to "Calamari Inkantation," but that's about as far as it goes. Luckily, my sister is studying Music Education and Music Performance in college (and she graduates soon!), so I was able to lean on her as a source of knowledge.

She just had to suffer through my insufferable gay seafood to get there.

Her main advice was to think of writing musical prose not as a literal translation of sheet music, but instead to really hone in on the emotions of listening to music. It took a bit to figure out the right balance between describing the performance itself and the more emotive images it conjures in Pearl's head, but I love the outcome!

My sister said, "Also the moonlight stuff is fire af." Clearly I've peaked.

Fun Fact: She told me I should look into the creepier aspects of "Moonlight Sonata" while writing. Did you know that the song is dedicated to then-16-year-old Countess Giulietta Guicciardi (per Brittanica), a student whom he fell in love with (per New York Times)?

Because I didn't.

My presentation of Pearl changed a fair bit over the course of this writing. Pearl's They/She pronouns were pretty spur of the moment, and the idea of They/She Napoleon has since become a running in-joke between me and my beta reader, the incredible artist Trybard (who was the source of my great screencap preview post that I blocked out for anonymity of personal socials).

Pearl with full tattoo sleeves was also a sudden decision that's entirely inspired by a Twitter post; I unfortunately cannot find that post anymore, it disappeared after I shifted pages. Likewise, Pearl learning Octarian is part-cute girlfriend stuff, part-excuse to use the joke about them reading Beethoven as "Beat-Havin'" that came to me in a flash of divine inspiration.

Marina doesn't get nearly as much love in the personal headcanon department, it was Trybard who suggested she might wear a citrus-y perfume smell. I added the motor oil.

I also added the fact that she's living it up in Pearl's downtown apartment, and lending out goofy manga-themed sleep shirts.

Off the Hook's apartment setting only includes the windowed hallway and main foyer (which I hope adds to the sense that Pearl is rich enough to afford the most ridiculously huge apartment of all time). However, there are two tidbits about the setting that I quite enjoy:

First, did you catch the bit about the charred piece of hull? I wanted to keep it subtle in writing, but my intent was referencing the NILS Statue! Did Pearl or Marina take the trophy? Who knows.

Second, Off the Hook's wall of records went through hefty trial-and-error. I settled on the idea of giving them Gold/Platinum/Diamond records (ala the real-world practice of Recording Industry Association of America certification) while listening to the collective works of Off the Hook. Given this is pre-Splat3, I imagined that the new recording of "Nasty Majesty" and their Splatfest theme "Color Pulse" would have among the most attention.

I also imagined that Splatoon wouldn't just use an exact 1-1 copy of our record certifications. Thus, the Recording Industry Association of Inkadia (RIAI) was born.

Rather than using precious metals to delineate sales, I decided to go with the more Splatoon-feeling marker of "neon records." I actually did a minor amount of research, predominately leaning on the website of Brigham Young University physics and astronomy professor Harold T. Stokes to figure out Neon's color spectrum.

Using this, I equated:

Violet = Gold (500,000 sales)

Green = Platinum (One Million sales)

Yellow = Double Platinum (Two Million sales)

Red = Diamond (Ten Million sales)

I even formatted the text to look like an actual RIAA plaque, just with the color's name rather than a literal record. AO3's HTML formatting can only go so far.

I used the "acronym" formatting to add extra context in the form of each song's to-date sales, which was all I originally planned to say. Learned all about that option in my horrific opening chapter to the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet fic "Paradiso," in which Arven has a nightmare that breaks the text "House of Leaves" style.

And that, my friends, is all she wrote.

I could go way deeper into the minutia Pearl's boisterous tone or Marina utilizing mechanical terms, but the broad strokes of where certain ideas originate seems like a better use of my "Debrief" time. More hcs cuz it’s my blog and I have a terrible memory of what I have or have not posted.

Specific nightmares that the couples comfort each other

Elena's worst reoccurring nightmare is that she is stuck in the amulet. Only the amulet doesn't belong to anyone, it's just a ancient artifact buried in the dirt so it's very unlikely that she will be released again any time soon. And in the amulet she experienced the same claustrophobia and isolation as before only with a clear image of Shuriki killing everyone she loves. Over and over and over. Mateo's worst would be probably related to his dad or grandfather and failing. His worst would be like a vital moment in battle where he is supposed to do a spell and he just freezes, or messes up. Causing the battle to be lost and everyone dies, Avalor is brought to ruin and magic is banned once more. The guilt and shame eats him up as he thinks of all those who trusted him and believed in him, like Rafa and Alcazar and most of all, Elena and he failed them. Or alternatively his over-ambition causes the same results.

Gabe's worst reoccurring nightmare would probably just him as captain leading his troops into a massacre. Simply having his friends and comrades dying is enough but being the one who made the decision that led to it..worse. Probably just to rub it in would be the familiar disappointed look in Roberto's eyes and then Blanca turning away from him too. For once not on his side. Isabel's is very similar to Elena in that she is just stuck in an endless loop of seeing her parents death only it's worse. Since she didn't get to witness it, her imagination takes it to all the worse routes Shuriki could have done. Then always ending with an heart pounding chase where Shuriki is close to her heels, always closer and cornering her.

Naomi's worst nightmare would have to be something like being ignored and cast aside while someone who is more qualified and royal than her takes her place as Elena's friend, and in the council. But the kicker would be that she is speaking but no one is listening, it's like she's invisible.

Esteban's worst nightmare is depending on the big secret reveal. Pre-secret revel would be the family finding out about his secret and since we already discussed, their painful reactions of sadness, anger, confusion and betrayal at his treason. Compounded by the rest of Avalor shunning him. Pre/Post-secret reveal would be just the memory of him hiding like a coward as Shuriki invaded the palace, killing his aunt and uncle. Doña's worst nightmare is being poor again. Alone and slowly painfully starving to death.

Favorite game Eleteo: A kiss off! No no I'm joking. Maybe tag or hide and seek. But no, not just any. But a magical version where they use their skills in order to find each other. There is also a lot of running and flying around as the two try to escape each other's grasp and tease the other. Of course, the winner gets a kiss and whatever they want but the chase is just part of the fun. Gabenaomi: Olaball. Those two would have a blast running around trying to get each other's goal and showing off their sweet moves. Of course, it also involves a lot of tackling, shoving and joking around and the winner gets to choose the date or the number of goals is the number of kisses the winner gets. Estenaomi: Charades surprisingly. They are very good at deciphering what the other is attempting to say. Like Naomi's odd looking "dance" is her playing Pete with an eyepatch and a monkey. Gababel: Board games of any sort. Usually scrabble or some sort of monopoly that they switch off for more romantic questions or prizes. Estoma: Pool. It can get pretty intense what with their need to destroy each other. It can also be pretty hilarious when they have a "no holds barred" competitions and try all manners of distractions and cheating so they can win

Who curses when they argue? Eleteo: Neither. They very much prefer actually talking out their problems than yelling and screaming in anger at each other sinc that is counterproductive. Also I can't see Mateo having a cursing bone in his body and Elena wouldn't use that kind of harsh language to someone she loves. Gabenaomi: Naomi. Blame the sailor's tongue but she can start cursing up a storm. And though Gabe tries not to do it in a girl's presence (yes, Mama Blanca drilled it in) he would start too. Gababel: Again neither. For the same reasons as Eleteo.

Who wears the other clothes sometimes? Eleteo: Elena sometimes wears Mateo's oversized shirts on a lazy Sunday morning without shame and sometime teasing that she should just wear it to her meetings. She also puts on wizards robes (Yes yes yes basically it's your fic. You are totally right in that Elena would put on Mateo's wizard robe. It's just so comfy and warm and smells just like him.) I couldn't resist. Gabenaomi: They don't really do that. Although Naomi has nabbed Gabe's guard jacket once or twice on a cold winter night at sea. As well as shirt:) She says he has to practice his ability to withstand cold temperatures but Gabe thinks it more has to do with his gazing at his pecs. Gababel: Neither would. Just the size difference between them, it's ridiculous to try. Although Gabe's shirts make nice nightgowns lol Estebaomi: A few times, Esteban has tried Naomi's clothes on account of her dares much to Naomi's personal amusement. Naomi does the same and dresses in Esteban’s fancy suits and shirts. Usually for fun. Estoma: Very rarely, though once Esteban went out in Doña's robe which he staunchly insists was a traditional Satu kimono.

Who gives piggybacks rides? Eleteo: Mateo tries to give Elena some but upper muscular strength isn't one of his fortes. Besides doing it with magic isn't the same. Sometimes Elena gives him some and there is just a lot of awkward fumbling, falling and laughter. Gabenaomi: Uh Gabe duh! Oftentimes Naomi will come running and hop on Gabe's back when he least expects it and then insists on a piggyback ride to whatever destination. Or joke that he is like her own Fuego. Gababel: Gabe again, but he is the one who usually offers to ride her around and makes it a fun bumpy galloping ride. Estenaomi: Both. Naomi more often that not thanks to Esteban’s drama king ways on hiking trips or when he is sick.

Who arranges for a day off Eleteo: Elena arranges for special days off from work in the kingdom and work for the wizard so they could spend time together. Usually the dates vary between exploring the kingdom more, horse/Jaquin riding, swimming, picnics on the palace grounds, a day at the fireplace, fancy dinner and waltz. As long as they are together, they're happy. Elena is usually bounding with more enthusiasm and happiness than usual and Mateo just adores her smile. Gabenaomi: Naomi does with some help from Elena to get Gabe away from Captain work, and they spend the day doing whatever comes to mind first. They tend to be more spontaneous in that sense. Gababal: Once more, Isabel does since she can easily figure out a break in her schedule and see abiut guard duty. They spend more time at home, sometimes with one of their families just enjoying each other's companies and talking about their day. Also the occasional exploring. Who takes the covers? Eleteo: Covers? What covers? They go on body warmth alone. Lol. I don't think either would since it's more of a cocoon they wrapped themselves in but I'm going to go with Mateo. I feel like Elenais just more of a body person while Mateo can sleep with tons and tons of soft blankets and it reminds him of his wizard robes so it is extra comfy. Gabenaomi: Naomi, she gets easily cold at night and likes to bundle herself up with all the covers. Gabe tries to shrug off, that he is too macho to get cold but sometimes he tries to tearing them away from Naomi's iron grip when she's sleeping and that almost made her fall off. Estenaomi: Esteban!! The guy is a Duke, he is used to being a hundred percent comfortable. Forbid that he gets cold at night, it is the one thing he won't relent. He takes the covers he wants. Naomi usually wrangles it away but then she has to endure his complaints of how cold he is and equals it by lots of kisses. Gababel: Isabel take the covers. Moreover Gabe would gladly give it to her she use gets grabby when she's asleep so it doesn't matter if he gives it beforehand, she gets more and they end up hugging a lot. Most interesting date? Eleteo: This is hard since I bet Eleteo had a lot of interesting dates but I'm going to go with the one where it was after they were married and just had Julian. They decided to take a night off to themselves and relax with a simple dinner. But Julian wouldn't stop crying unless he was in his mother's arms so they decided to take him to the restaurant. But they couldn't just leave Ana and Bianaca alone so they came with. It was a bit harder to have any flirtations when there are two toddlers around. Not to mention how Bianca wanted to look at all the pretty decorations and Ana wanted to hold baby Julian. So the night wasn't what they expected but it just reminded them how lucky they were to be having such a family, and how adorable it was to see the other parent. Gabenaomi: It would have to be the time they almost lost the boat. They had went to the island from The Gecko's Tale but the rope snapped leading their boat out to the water. So they took a row boat and rowed to it until Gabe jumped out to garb the rope himself so Naomi followed and the two tried to figure how to pull it in since it was rather large. They managed to do it, and spent the rest of the date resting on the beach with a firm eye of the boat and talking about all the other things that could have happened like the return of Chiloya among others. Estoma: They decided to pretend to be strangers meeting at a bar and get to know each other all over again. At first it was awkward with some patrons staring, and doing their best not to reference any past event or figuring if they were meeting as themselves or their teen selves. A few drinks in, the two forgot all that and tried to be themselves. It spiraled on to dancing in clubs, Esteban re-enacting some of his youthful adventures and the Royal treasury, she taught him to ride bareback and the next morning they had to explain why a majority of food was found staining the guest bedrooms.

Who feeds the other? Eleteo: Both. Elena starts it at first in the beginning stages of the relationship since she is much more impulsive and Mateo is still very self conscious and aware of how it may appear to others. But then of course, he starts doing it too. Anything for his lady love. Gabenaomi: Gabe feeds Naomi after giving up trying to stop her from stealing pieces of food. Naomi secretly thinks it's cheesy but she loves it. Gababel: Gabe again. He loves Isabel. He would do anything and that means pulling all the stops and being a totally inner romantic just as Blanca encouraged. Estenaomi: At first, Naomi does it as joke usually mixing in purpose to make fun of Esteban’s pampered upbringing. Then attentive, changed man Esteban would do it similar to Gabe.

Who plays footsie? Eleteo: Elena!! Elena, Elena, Elena. She can't help herself. She loves to show any kind of affection to her boyfriend/husband and will mischevious do it under the table if need be. Estenaomi: Esteban, he is such a flirt and knowing him, he woudkd do it when he gets bored at meetings. Or sometimes he would do it just to get Naomi distracted. Gababel: Isabel. She's like her sister in being more public about her affection. Just because he has a reputation as captain of the guard doesn't me she particularly cares. Gabenaomi: Naomi to Gabe. Similar to Isabel, she doesn't care that Gabe has a reputation to live up to and just wants to be with her man. Also she's mischevious in that sense too. What kind of couple class would they do together? Eleteo: I feel like cooking (??) Totally unimaginative but there is a certain domesticity with cooking. It's a nice break from their crazy, magical work a day lives. Plus it gives plenty of opportunities for food fights, finger licking and food sharing. Gabenaomi: Mountain climbing. Can that be a couple class? I feel like it would be a good couple class for them. Working out, adventuring and sharing trust at the highest height possible. Estenaomi: A dance class of some sort. If it was a modern AU, probably hip hop. Delivering every move with grace, style and a hint of the heat between them. Gababel: Yoga. It combines the use of Gabe's muscular strength and always being there to lift up and catch Isabel while Isabel calculates the bets way to get into position without straining any muscles.

Estoma: Pool. They get extremely competitive trying to distract each other. Who slips innuendos? Eleteo: Elena. Because she can and she doesn't mince words when it comes to how much she loves her husband in every sense. Usually when she's bored or in a particularly flirty mood. Mateo does too but he'd rather do that in the privacy of his room. Gabenaomi: Naomi. She had heard quiet a few from days in sailor bars and often conveys them to Gabe especially after he comes from home after battle or on their dates. Gababel: Neither really. If it does happen it would be accidental or out of context. But I can't really see it happening. Estebaomi: Is this a question, Esteban. Only he would think his are incredible witty and charming and sexy. Not the result all the time but when it falls flat Naomi just laughs and shakes her head at his attempts.

The Yamada kid was really starting to piss Itachi off.

The sports festival was so close, after all. The captain was finally back at school, and she had a lot of training to catch up on. So why was she so distracted by this absolute loser? She'd ask him to run with her and then keep pace with him, sluggish as he was. At this rate, she'd never win her portions, and what else mattered more than that?

One day, as the boys in Class 3-2 were changing in the locker room after gym class, Itachi couldn't stop himself from glaring at the bum. How dare he go about his life without knowing how badly he was affecting Asu? Eventually, Taro noticed Itachi's intense gaze. "Are you... okay?"

Itachi's brow furrowed even more. "No, I'm not. Just the sight of you disgusts me."

Taro flinched, taken aback by Itachi's sudden harsh words. The locker room fell silent and all eyes turned to Itachi and Taro. He glanced around at all of the eyes on him before turning back to Itachi. "Um, I don't know why you're upset, but maybe we can talk about this some other time?"

"Are you serious? You fucking coward. Talking to me first and now that the game's tough you wanna back out?" Itachi stepped up close to Taro, glaring down at him. "Why does the captain even waste her time with someone like you?"

Taro blinked. "The captain? You mean... you mean, Rito-san-"

Itachi slammed his fist against one of the lockers. "Keep her name out of your mouth!" he demanded. "And stay away from her! If you don't even have the confidence to face me head on, then how could you have the gall to distract her when she should be training?"

Taro bristled. It was like someone flipped a switch. His face hardened and he stepped forward, almost goading Itachi back. "Training? Are you serious? She was away from school for four weeks just for that! Don't you see that she's exhausted? At this rate, she'll injure herself!"

"So you admit that you're holding her back?!"

"I'm not admitting to anything!"

"Then stay away from her! The captain will be devastated if she can't win at the upcoming festival, and it'll be your fault!"

"Is that what this is about? Winning? Stop acting like a child; there are more important things in life than that!"

"What did you say?!" His face red with rage, Itachi lunged forward. One of the spectators, Budo, jumped to hold Itachi back.

"Hey, Zametora, knock it off! This is no place to be fighting!"

"Let go, you asshole!" Itachi struggled, but somehow couldn't escape from Budo's grasp. The entire time, Taro stared at him. Was that contempt in his eyes? Pity? Which would be worse? Worst of all was Itachi prolonging his humiliation; he clearly wouldn't be able to overpower Budo. He relaxed until Budo felt safe about releasing him, turned to the martial arts master, and glowered. "I'll fucking deal with you later," he spat. He pulled his jacket from his locker and slammed it shut, shoving his arms into the sleeves and ignoring everyone's stares as he stormed out of the locker room.

He could feel his blood boiling; so much so that he felt lightheaded. School wouldn't be over for a while longer, but he knew he needed to blow off steam somehow. He'd probably have to make another secret visit today.

After his club finished meeting, Itachi quickly changed and headed to the school's garden. It was the best way for him to relieve stress, and it seemed that no one except the gardening club's leader knew his secret, and she'd already sworn to keep it quiet. Just seeing the hedges soothed his racing heart and made him forget about an odd pain in his shin that had appeared during practice... at least until he turned into the entrance and saw a familiar face looking back at him from the petunias.

"Z-Zametora-san?!" Taro exclaimed.

"Yamada!" Itachi shouted. His face turned beet red as he stomped towards the boy. "Why, you..."

"That's enough," came a gentle voice. Itachi and Taro turned to see Uekiya, whose face wore an unusually stern expression. "I'd heard rumors about a fight between the two of you today, though I didn't think either of you were crass enough to act like that. It seems I was wrong. Regardless, let me be perfectly clear now: the both of you will keep it out of my garden, or I'll make it off-limits to non members. Are we understood?"

Both Itachi and Taro flinched. Uekiya was always so kind and cheerful, but this time, she meant business. They spoke their reply in unison. "Yes, ma'am..."

"Good." Uekiya turned on her familiar smile. "Itachi-kun, why don't you water the tulips?"

The tulips were across the garden, but the water spout wasn't far from the petunias where Taro was working. However, Uekiya's word was law within the hedges, so Itachi sighed. "Yeah, got it." He grabbed a watering can and went up the spout to turn it on, waiting for water to fill up the can. Taro was knelt by the flowers mere feet away, but Itachi pretended that he wasn't there. However, Taro couldn't let sleeping dogs lie.

"Um... so, I... I lost my cool earlier. I'm sorry."

"Hmph."

Taro frowned when Itachi refused to even acknowledge him, but was determined not to back down. "You've known Ri- I mean, your captain longer than I have. You probably have a better idea of her priorities than I do. Maybe I'm projecting my own values onto her... but she did seem kind of tired."

Itachi scoffed again, but this time he responded. "That's just part of the deal. If you're not tired, you're not working hard enough."

"But don't you guys ever get stress injuries?"

"What?"

"You..." Taro sighed. "Look, I get that you have to push past your limits if you wanna improve. But if you're working too hard and too often, your body will wear down. The damage can be permanent. I figured maybe that's why you came to a place like this..."

Itachi turned. "I just like gardening, okay? Got a problem with that?"

"No, no! I like it too! I just... don't wanna see anyone get hurt. Your captain has helped me through a lot this week, so I care about her. And I know she really cares about you too, so..." Taro smiled up at Itachi. "Friend of my friend, I guess."

Itachi stared down at Taro. Friends? Itachi didn't keep friends. Except for Asu and Uekiya, possibly... his only friends were girls? Well, Asu didn't really count, though she'd smack him for thinking that. As Itachi's thoughts ran through his head, he noticed that the watering can was nearly full. But as he shifted his weight to kneel and turn off the faucet, pain shot through his shin. He suddenly sucked breath in through his teeth and nearly fell, causing Taro to stand in alarm. "What's wrong?"

"N-Nothing. I'm fine."

"That doesn't look fine. We need to get you to the infirmary."

"The nurse is probably gone by now..."

"She doesn't leave until all the students have left the building, and we're still here. Come on." Itachi was about to refuse Taro's help again, but he couldn't ignore the pain in his leg anymore. He allowed Taro to support his weight on one side. "Uekiya-san, I'm sorry, but we have to go. Itachi is hurt."

"Oh, my!" Uekiya's hand flew to her mouth. "That's serious! Don't worry; I'll finish up here. You take care of Itachi."

Itachi frowned. "No one's taking care of- agh!"

"Come on, let's go already..."

"It's a stress fracture," Kankoshi said, pressing an ice pack to Itachi's shin. "Hold this here."

Itachi blinked. "You're kidding."

"Do you want me to hold it for you?

"No, I got it, just- fuck, a what?"

"A stress fracture. It'll take a few weeks to heal. I'll call the doctor on your file and have them write you a prescription for some anti-inflammatory medication. In the meantime, you're going to need to ice and rest your tibia for a few weeks. If you have to keep up your club activities, then no running until it's healed. If the pain is tolerable, you can swim, but don't push it."

Itachi leaned back, putting a hand to his head. "You can't be serious," he repeated.

Taro stepped in. "Thank you, Kankoshi-sensei." The nurse nodded and got up to go to the faculty room, leaving behind an air of awkwardness.

After a minute of tense silence, Itachi groaned. "Go ahead, Say you told me so."

Taro shook his head. "I don't think I have to."

Itachi forced out a laugh. "Well, if I had to pick, it's a good thing that I'm in this situation and not the captain. She'd die if she couldn't participate in the festival." At that moment, it sank in that Itachi was effectively disqualified. He'd just drag his team down if he competed in this state. He felt ashamed for being weak.

Taro noticed the somber look on his face. "Well, this is a great opportunity."

Itachi frowned. "A great opportunity?" He was about to ask if Taro wanted to die before he was interrupted.

"For you to heal. If you'd kept running, this fracture could have been a lot worse. And hey, now you have more time for gardening! Won't it be nice to take a break?"

"How am I supposed to win at anything if I slack off?"

"You're not slacking off. Zametora-san, do you think that you've failed somehow? It's only natural for things like this to happen. Just gotta roll with the punches and make the best of things. At least, that's how I choose to win. Maybe you can find some form of victory in conquering the part of you that doesn't worry about preserving yourself." Itachi stared at Taro as the sentiment lingered in the air. Taro offered him an affable smile. "Do you need help getting home?"

"I can... call someone to pick me up, I guess."

"In that case, I'd better head back myself. My sister gets nervous if I stay out too late. She'd be devastated if something happened to me. I'll see you at school tomorrow, Zametora-san." Taro picked up his bookbag, waved, and left the nurse's office.

Itachi stared down at his swollen leg and the ice pack that he was still holding to the injury. He'd never imagined something like this would happen to him. He didn't even want to imagine it happening to Asu. Had he been pushing her down that path? What if she - or he - exercised so much that they caused permanent damage as Taro had said? Not being able to run or swim would be devastating. Even just being barred from running made Itachi feel like a hole had been drilled out of him. He certainly wouldn't be winning any races. Why did he try so hard to win at everything, anyway? What was the reason for all of this?

At least with this injury, he'd have a lot more time to think. Maybe the captain would even be willing to lend the kid for some help with it. Maybe he could learn from this, as Taro had said.

Maybe there were things more important than winning after all.

I renewed my NSO so my nephews could play Splatoon 2, and I wanted to see if there was anything good in Mario Maker and maybe try out Mario Kart online.

Out of curiosity I tried out the Gameboy online thing. I gotta say, it looks very good with the "replicate classic look" option turned on... better than my actual Gameboy Color... I regret buying a GBC modded with the rechargeable battery and IPS screen. The battery compartment doesn't shut all the way and it randomly powers off, and the screen is too sharp, lacks the gridlines, and the colors are way too saturated and bright, I hate it.

I still won't be using NSO for retro games... but it does lead me to believe it would have been super easy for Nintendo to coax me into re-buying all of their retro games for the fourth or fifth time if they had just offered the option to buy them outright instead of tying them to a bad online subscription, and if they didn't release them at a rate even slower than the wii shop channel to the point that 6 years in they're only just now getting something the Wii didn't already have ( but the Wii U had it, do Gamecube you cowards ).

Like the only reason I turned to everdrives, piracy, and real hardware in the first place is because Nintendo took too long to announce an N64 Classic Edition or any sort of virtual console substitute on Switch. I already had a soft modded NES Classic Edition and a SNES too... I still would have likely bought some of my faves to have on my Switch...heck, I might have even paid to add games to those mini consoles if they offered an official means of doing so. But no. They trickled the games out on a service I don't want, and the N64 games were even launched in such a sorry state, I don't know if I'd buy official re-releases even if they did offer them.

Having completed - the main story at least- botw debating on if I want to try and pick up totk tomorrow or give it a wait.

I’m not super concerned about spoilers- I’ll probably watch some people play it even if I don’t buy right away.

Really enjoying actually being able to play more Zelda games - since they tended to release on well big home console majority of them I never got to play cause I didn’t have said console.

I will say however Nintendo are cowards for not making Link left handed again, since motion controls are no longer a problem (and if they were well just give us an option to switch between left n right handed play)

And with Totk could make even more sense to be left handed given whatever is going on with his right hand

Dear dear hearts....those who wear their hearts on sleeves, in their smiles, with words, with gestures....with open arms and open minds....isn't it time? Isn't it time you took a little time for you?Isn't it time you remember who you are without the monster?Isn't it time you remember what you are without the abuser?Without the games...without the fear....without that deep-in-the-gut sickness that pervades every waking moment and many times your sleeping ones too...Without the sorrow...without the confusion that permeates your mind, regularly....Without the bitterness of knowing you are not the one they choose, not the only.....no, their need for perversion and online addiction controls their actions, their choices.I could go on ad nauseam but I will spare you dear friends as I am preaching to the largest choir in the history of mankind, to date. I could relate story after story after story...of the many women I have come in contact with who have suffered greatly at the hands of the monsters that walk among us, disguised as sheep...disguised as people who care...disguised as happy, funny men who switch gears in the privacy of their own home. Cowards....every one. I have been lost in self reflection the past few days....lost in fear and loathing....lost in remembering who I AM. Do you know how pervasive the damage? I am lost within a mind I no longer remember...no longer recognize as my own. I walk amidst a dark and foreign land, searching and crying for the woman I was before the abuse, before the mind-f*ckery, before the monster/s stepped into my life. The damage done....I am lost within my own mind, my own heart and I fear some days that I will never find my way...the landscape has changed so drastically and so permanently I am forced to make new paths, new in-roads into a psyche that I am unfamiliar with. This...this dear people, is the damage done by the hand that reached out in love...until with slight of hand brings hate, brings discord...confusion...the fear of someone you believed had your best interests at heart, from the hand meant to protect not harm...do you see how just these few things mentioned can cause irreparable harm to the recipient?The victim/survivor is forced to re-think, re-shape and re-write all they've known prior...it no longer has place to grow or thrive within the hot mess the monster has created. And so we circle back to compassion, we call to mind the many small kindnesses and begin the journey to forgiveness...not just for the abuser/s in our lives, but for ourselves.The shame, the embarrassment, the absolute self-recriminations that circle in a constant bid to be heard...cringe-worthy thoughts that must be brought out to examine and with a gentle love be released....over and over and over again until they no longer have power to debilitate. It is a process... a long one for some, depending on the experience and length of time they were under control of the evil that led them by the nose, by that fickle organ...the heart.My plea today is this....be kind and do not judge anyone who has been through the fire and walked away, burned, scorched and scarred, but alive.There is no timeline, there can be no timeline....the victim/survivor must never be made to feel shame or told they 'just need to be ok.' They haven't been ok for a very long time and finding their way through a space that should be theirs, and only theirs.... but which holds no familiarity any longer is a devastatingly painful undertaking. Be patient dear friends. To others as well as yourself. Take the time to do even the smallest of things that bring life and joy back to your soul.Thank you....to all who speak life and love over the suffering, over the un-lovable (so the thinking goes), and over the unreachable. You are reaching them, they do hear you....a surfeit of love is needed to guide the lost back to a land of hope, faith and love. Thank you.....
