Hey, I dont know if your requests are open, but I saw the anon who Requested Armin encouraging you to eat and I'm struggling with eating lately as well. Those headcannons were super helpful and made me feel so much better, especially knowing I'm not the only one going through the whole food anxiety thing. 💗💗 If you ever have the chance could you make some head canons of the same request with Reiner too? Hes my absolute comfort character! 🥺🥺

Disclaimer: this one goes into more depth about the aspects of eating anxiety and disorders, it never encourages nor romanticize them but it describes them in details, it might be triggering for some people.

I'm sorry if this isn't what you had in mind anon, i just thought about how Reiner would approach this in a different light than Armin. If what you wanted was more light and fluffy themese then you can tell me and i will write you another one.

He knows before you tell him, how could he not? It's something he's more than just acquainted with.

The all familiar feeling of sourness in your mouth, the heaviness of your throat that feels glued shut from the inside whenever you bring a bite even remotely close to your mouth.

It's tiring, it's exhausting and it's all he has ever known.

The nausea, the stomachache, the whole ever repeating cycle of bringing the food to your room, promising yourself that you will finish it but it ends up joining the pile of rotting half full plates on the far dresser where you can't see it. 

He pretends it doesn't bother him, he has it under control is what he tells himself. After all, as long as it's just him it doesn't really register just how bad it is.

But not you, oh god anything but you going through this too.

He sees himself in you, he sees all the tiredness from fighting each day just to accomplish something other people get for granted. The unfairness of having to fight your brain just to survive.

He doesn't bring it up to you, he knows just how exhausting it is to have this conversation over and over again with every new person who thinks they're being friendly by making you explain your whole being to them.

By having you turn your complex struggles into bite sizes just so they won't get disturbed of how bad it gets at times, of having to babysit every ever so curious eye that may have had good intentions but didn't think about their words twice.

The suppressed rage both of you hide at the unfairness of the situation, that will have a flood of guilt following right after even a grain of that rage slips between the cracks onto an innocent bystander.

And so he makes his actions speak for him instead, he makes sure not a single stupid grain of self loathing will weasel itself into your justified frustration each time you couldn't finish something you thought you would.

He will fight each battle with you, he will be your pillar to lean against just as you were his wake up call.

Making it very clear you're not alone in this, you won't ever be.

He will learn your preference in food no matter how many times it changes, he will take great care in making sure every meal he makes for you won't bother you in texture or taste whilst giving you all the nutritions you need.

Even if you couldn't finish it right now, even if one bite was all you had energy for, that's perfectly understandable and would've been still worth his effort.

But this time neither of you will forget to finish it before the day ends, neither of you will go to bed hungry.

He makes it clear food isn't a reward, it's not something to be earned nor should taking it away be a punishment.

And while he repeated this to himself before, somehow saying it to you is what made him really truly believe it.

He sees your progress to get better, he knows your determination and it fills him not only with pride but with hope for himself too.

Having you by his side, in the bad and good times, is what made this thing far easier than it was alone.

You're deserving of love and care, you're deserving of patience and forgiveness, none is perfect and progress is never a linear line.

Just a single step forward everyday is what both of you aim for, eventually it will add up no matter how many steps back happen on the bad days.

He makes sure to change scenery too when both of you have lunch, maybe you can eat it in the backyard today or maybe an in bed breakfast.

Maybe the both of you can pack your food and just aimlessly drive around.

Even at family events or friends hangout, he will make sure that you have a comfort safe food to eat if everything else seemed overwhelming at the time. 

You're not a bother nor a burden, it's asking for help and taking care of each other that even got humanity this far ahead.

And without realising it, you too do take care of him when you share your drinks with him on the days he felt like water tasted disgusting. Or the times you held his hand in comfort after he spent half an hour just staring at his untouched plate.

Both of you will heal your relationship with food, neither of you is broken nor are you damaged. You've just been hurt too much and this was one of the many ways your brains tried to cope, to get control over a single aspect in your lives just to feel stable.

It's an unhealthy coping mechanism, it's the thing that helped keep you sane before when things were falling apart but it's a really really damaging one in the long run.

You're not crazy nor overreacting, you're perfectly human.

And while unlearning something is impossible, since it will be a part of you that lingers no matter how small. You will learn to cope healthy with it, to calmly deal with the aftermath.

To find alternative solutions that don't come at the cost of your physical or mental health, to find peace with the thing. 

He knows that and he's grateful to have you with him in this journey, where both of you learn how to take care of yourself and your needs again.

Heute wurde ich noch einmal an Sonja‘s Tod erinnert und ich habe an unseren letzten Kontakt gedacht. Einige Vorkontrollen habe ich für Sonjas Mini Shelter gemacht,sich kennen ist zu viel gesagt. So wie man sich eben im Tierschutz kennt. So wie man sich eben über Facebook kennt. Sonjas plötzlicher Tod,hat mich heute wieder daran erinnert , wie schnell alles vorbei sein kann. Der Tierschutz zieht viel Kraft und Energie , er gibt aber auch viel. Man muss immer versuchen die Balance zu halten. Oft schafft man es , manchmal nicht wirklich. Frost crystals gliding through the crisp air, descending onto the freshly shovelled driveway, one stacking on top of the other, gradually building up despite the slowly rising temperature as the sun peeks through the far hills.

The unfolding scenery outside your bedroom window mattered none to you, neither did the quiet squirrels leaving feather soft footprints tracks behind them  before climbing the nearest tree, or the dog's barks chasing them.

For your mind only cared about the comforting warm hug of your blanket, basking in the blissful state of being half-awake. 

Burying your face further against the soft pillow, you paid no mind to the rustling of sheets on your left or the mattress dipping down in weight right next to your waist.

It was only when the cold air glazed your exposed skin, that your eyebrows knitted as a protest formed at the edge of your lips. Only for it to be abruptly pushed back by the shiver running up your spine at the feeling of soft warm kisses being trailed down your neck, dipping into the crease where it met your shoulder.

"Baby" murmured a voice akin to melted honey right against your skin, " it's time to wake up." you could feel a hand brushing against the side of your face, making your eyelashes flutter.

Reiner's weight shifted off your side, you could hear the clinking of a spoon against the glass cup as it stirred it before the weight returned.

The smell of your delicious drink was what pushed your muscles into making the decision to sit up for you, back pressed against the bed header for support. With your vision still drowsy, it was Reiner's hand cupping yours that guided the cup to your mouth, waiting for you to blow the hot surfaces away before taking a sip.

Leaving the blanket discarded as the liquid warmth travelled down your throat, warming your insides and giving you the needed boost of energy to regain focus on the face in front of you.

The edge of Reiner's lips quirked up when you attempted saying good morning only to be interrupted by a yawn halfway through.

"Good morning to you too, i hope you slept enough because-" the buzzing of the doorbell grabbed both your attentions.

It only took 5 seconds for you to put 2 and 2 together, one glancing out the window to the thick blankets of snow covering the roads was all it took to clue you in.

"Schools might be closed for today but jobs sure aren't, Zeke and Colt came to drop them off before their shift at the clinic." Reiner explained as he got off the bed, "i can distract them for 15 minutes while you get ready, otherwise i can't guarantee Gabi won't slam open the bathroom door on you like last time." 

Not wanting to tempt fate a second time, you hurried downing the rest of the drink before starting your morning routine.

Stepping outside the bedroom, the four kids with their messy hair and still in their pyjamas took one glance at you then rainer as they demanded food, their food negotiator diplomat being Zofia as usual.

Half a dozen cream filled pancakes later, they were happily laying on the couch, Udo and Falco sharing an iPad as they started rewatching the entirety of My Little pony for the second time this month while Zoifa took occasional glances at their screen between scrolling through tumblr.

Where is Gabi you might wonder, well she just happened to be clinging to a certain cousin of hers as he was finishing tying his work uniform, going through the five stages of grief because Reiner refused to take her to work with him.

When both the puppy eyes and attempted blackmail didn't work, she stomped back into joining the rest of her friends, moping around with a scowl that softened when Falco made her a spot to sit between him and Zofia.

Meanwhile you were just starting your own 5 stages of grief as the realisation that Reiner has work today settled in. Don't get me wrong you did know the kids pretty well and they confided in you even, although you knew most of your encounters with them were always made easier by the presence of your husband who knew how to keep them in line, aka convincing them that maybe arson isn't such a cool pog activity.

And you just weren't ready for the vail to unravel, the thin layer of adorable nature that kids have that had everyone fooled into forgetting the true demons lurking beneath it. 

It really does say something about a species when its offspring being loved is hardwired into each one of its elders، just so the offspring survives long enough to develop a conscience that maybe other people do also deserve to live.

You really should stop listening to Zeke's drunken lectures at family gatherings when he corners you. 

Anyway young Aristotle, you've been standing in the kitchen pondering all of that while holding the last glass of juice that the kids didn't gobble down. It wasn't till the you felt the warmth of an arm lightly wrapping around you as your husband leaned in for a peck on the cheek, steadying you back into reality.

"Someone's still sleepy" he rubbed along your side in an effort to apologise for this last minute plan he roped you into, "I'll make it up to you, i promise."

You didn't doubt that he'd keep his words but you'd be damned if you didn't let yourself play the role of the tired spouse just to milk more affection out of him.

Plus you can handle a bunch of toddlers? You were a toddler once so like how hard can it actually be.

10:33am the fall.

You wouldn't say you'd consider yourself a hardcore gamer who is known amongst portal speedrun world record holders, but you know your way around a counterstrike lobby like anyone else.

Maybe you even finished a broken sword dark souls run in the past, or maybe you're one of the few that actually bothered to take support in League and be good at it. 

Or maybe you're an expert in stardew valley optimization, getting to marry shane before the first spring ends which is concerning because why would you even marry shane. 

Or you're a Sims mod hoarder who is 9 generations into your third vampire astronaut OC's ark and moulded each one of those people with the precision of marble sculptures. 

Or just maybe you've never held a controller before and passing candy crush second stage was the highlight of your gamer career. 

It matters non.

Because in this reality, in this current timeline nothing could've ever prepared you for the question Falco asked you so innocently. 

"Do you know roblox?"

The mere mention of the game's name got every one of those kids to drop the peaceful facade act and flick a primal switch inside them.

"Uh yeah?" You lied, what in god's name is a roblox.

"So you know how to play adopt me?" Said Zofia in a sceptical voice as she looked at you with her sceptical face.

You could still back off, just admit to the kids that barely started middle school in front of you that you're an out of touch adult, a fraud who's been pretending to be not like other adults and is actually a cool person.

…over your dead body.

"Who doesn't." They stared at you for a solid 10 seconds, but you didn't budge. 

The tense atmosphere vanished as they visibly beamed in excitement, each one of them throwing a question after question at you. Like what kind of pets you had and if you're excited for the fashion show update.

"No my ghost bunny is cooler" insisted Udo as he stared down Gabi who was boasting about her elf hedgehog.

"Imagine thinking a 2020 pet is a flex, couldn't be me" was the fuel Zofia added to the flames.

"You got a single legendary and you made it your whole personality" Gabi shot back.

"Guys can we not start this argument again" Faclo tried to reason with the bunch as they seemed to forget the fact you're also in the room.

"I don't wanna hear it from someone who still uses the default eyes" 

Oh no.

"At least I'm not in a sonic roleplay discord server " 

"Oh shut up you literally main Hu tao and throw a fit when anyone brings a healer to a domain"

"I know you're not talking shit right now you Childe main, didn't you actually cry when the Ayato banner came?"

"Didn't you lie to your mom just to get money for the Diluc skin?"

"Yeah and so did you for the fortnite battle pass!"

"You literally kin naegi-"

You have to do something, you're 99% sure they forgot you're in the room and if you let them be they'll reveal things you don't wanna know.

"Okay that's enough" you said sternly, standing up to add an advantage to your intimidation roll. 

Well whether you failed or not, it was more than enough to get them to remember they're not talking in a voice call rn but in real life.

In a milliseconds, guilty puppy eyes surrounded you as they attempted to salvage what's left of their innocent facade.

"We're sorry we didn't mean to yell." said Falco as he tried to hide his face behind his oversized sticky IPad, apparently the only actual kid in the bunch who felt guilty.

The rest of them just avoided eye contact with you.

You sat back down, attempting to think of a way to get them back on the same page, having a vague knowledge of the titles they mentioned.

They seemed to at least forget about roblox which is good, you didn't wanna pay for that lie today although you had a feeling it might come back to bite you soon.

Reiner wasn't big on video games, he much preferred active hobbies like sports or calming ones like knitting or baking.

Leaving you with your work laptop.

"Do you know flash games?" You were answered with their confused faces.

12:28pm the rise.

"So I can just serve them a burger with nothing but lettuce and mayo and they'd still give me money." Said Udo with a very concerning happy smile. 

"Make sure to burn his burger too" added Gabi sitting next to him.

Zofia and Falco, who just finished their turn with perfect scores, seemed content with watching the other two be an absolute menace to the customers.

"No, I wanna be fire girl"

"You keep jumping into water puddles! You're water boy shush.

"Why would Elsa even have glass in her feet that doesn't make sense"

You quickly made them close that game.

4:20pm 

The doorbell rings, and you go quickly to answer it. Taking the food from the delivery guy as you make your way back to where the 4 of them were having a rock paper scissor tournament to decide on who picks the movie.

You ended up winning and picked your favourite one, halfway through you noticed how they all were fast asleep.

Getting up and pausing the film, you carefully move each of them to the main bedroom.

5:00pm

"And they had lunch after, they did seem kinda sad for not being able to play outside because of the snow." you said as you typed away at your laptop, making sure none of them installed a roblox on it or something. "But it cheered them up when I agreed to rate their roblox avatars."

He definitely blanked for a second as he took you in, like really took you in with all your curves and shape, a slowing heat making it's way up his neck reaching the corner of his cheeks and ears, eyes half lidded and glazed over like his mind is in complete entrance.

And then you walked, he bit the inside of his cheek as he watched your thighs move with every step, thinking about how his big hand would feel gripping them- will it bruise easily oh god- the closer they came into view the tighter he gripped the sheets below him- wait...closer? Were you walking towards him oh god you were-

"Are you having a stroke?" Came Porco’s voice with a harsh tug to his arm as a third attempt to catch the other's attention. "Fucking hell what are you even looking at-"

When Porco turned his head, the first thing that met him was your waist as you stood in front of them with a quirk to your eyebrows, arms crossed.

When arriving at the automatic glass doors, leading to the long open terminal area, Gabi and Udo were the first to run off towards the large clear windows.

Their faces smoshed against the glass, watching in awe as a plane was making a round through the runway, preparing to take off.

Following them was a very sleepy Zofia who fell into the nearest seat available, as her mother sat beside her while talking to Udo's mom.

Soon enough, an out of breath Falco was sitting near them after insisting to carry the clearly too heavy bag, that was twice his size, to the luggage area with Reiner.

Udo's mom made sure each of them had their carry on backpacks with snacks, blankets and everything they might need, while Zofia's mother made sure they behaved and didn't bother the security too much during check up.

Reiner was beside you the whole time, going with you to finish the documents and get their boarding tickets, taking a walk through the airport free market and buying something to drink from the vending machines.

It's a trip you've both been planning for months, a week alone in a far away tropical island, white sandy beach with stray coconuts and tall palm trees. The perfect getaway for you to relax and get some time for yourselves.

At least that's what it was supposed to be, wasn't it for Reiner accidentally mentioning it to Bertolt one night.

And just like fire spreading, it wasn't long before Bertolt told Annie, who mentioned it to Zeke who spoke to Pieck about it and it ended with Porco who spilled it to Zofia's mom on a Saturday's night.

Just after 24 hours of Reiner telling Bertolt, you both got a call from Udo's mother saying they've already booked tickets for them and the kids to accompany you.

"We thought you'd feel alone all by yourselves."

And with Reiner already having taken the time off work, he couldn't reschedule it.

That's how you ended up boarding and airplane with four kids and their two mothers.

Surprisingly getting them through security wasn't as hard as you thought it would be, especially with Zofia's mother keeping an eye on them.

It wad the boarding part that's almost caused a fight to happen on the airplane, you see like all kids, they too wanted to window seat.

You and Reiner looked at each other, both concerned you might get kicked off the airplane if this wasn't solved really quickly before it gets physical.

Thankfully, with some coaxing from Udo's mother and sly manipulation form Zofia's mom. The kids ended up agreeing on a seating arrangement that restored peace between them.

Gabi would sit near the window, Falco in the middle seat with Reiner near the aisle. He'd be just opposite side of where you sat next to him, Zofia near you in the middle and Udo near the window.

Apparently Zofia's and Udo's mother somehow managed to take the far away two seats that were booked for you and Reiner.

With being separated, even if it's by a small walk through aisle, Reiner's mood quickly went sour as he looked at your with a grumpy look.

He really wanted to sit next to you, like genuinely wanted to experience your first flight together next to each other and maybe watch some movie while snacking on airplane peanuts.

But it ended with him sitting in a far too uncomfortable seat, just near the aisle where passing people would accidentally step on his feet.

Next to him, Falco was too busy playing games with Gabi who lost interest in the window after two seconds, apparently they managed to steal Reiner's phone from his pocket while he was pouting about being far away from you.

Meanwhile Udo was really invested in the window and looking at the ground below, occasionally making comments bout anything interesting he'd see.

You couldn't help but notice how unusually stiff Zofia was, even paler than usual. She'd only reply to Udo's comments with a nod of her head without opening her mouth, her grip on the armrest so tight that her knuckles were turning white

Voicing your concerns to her, she didn't look you in the eye while shaking her head for a no.

Catching on to your concerned look, Reiner asked what's wrong which brought Gabi's and Falco's attention.

"I'm okay." Was all that she said before closing her eyes.

"You sure? You're acting as if the plane will crash or something." Gabi said from her seat.

That made Zofia's eyes snap open as she snatched the paper bags from under the seat and nearly ripped it open before emptying her stomach inside.

Udo didn't leave her side after that and even agreed to move to windowless seat so she'd feel better, her mother too stayed by her side.

After a while as the lights dimmed and blankets were being handed by the flight attendants, you could see Zofia clutching close to Udo in the back seat, him reading some book his mother gave him while making sure the blanket doesn't fall off of her.

Next to Reiner Gabi and Falco were the first to fall asleep, sharing a blanket and the tv in front of them playing the end credits for an avengers movies.

Reiner failed to suppress how happy he looked while moving to the empty seats beside you, wasting no time in holding your hand in both of his firmly.

"I missed you." His muffled voice came after burying his face in your neck.

Oh👀 lemme see what i have.

Grice would've still known Grisha and Dina in modern au, would've probably met baby Zeke too.

Although after Grisha remarried i don't think they kept in touch especially since Zeke didn't go with him which would cut most connections.

Colt didn't really know Zeke till after Grisha left that they met through Reiner, maybe even ran into each other a couple times when Colt started his medical training.

Falco known Zeke all his life really.

For the rest of the yeager family, they didn't really meet and Zeke doesn't like talking about it. Reiner doesn't bring up his friends from Highschool up to Colt or Falco really.

I think Falco would've seen Eren by pure luck in the street a couple times, he doesn't know who he is he just helped him with some things.

Then he'd have seen him talking to Reiner and got an idea that they must be friends.

The types of jobs they have in modern au

Annie is an Animal rescue worker.

Having had experience as a dog trainer before, it wasn't hard to find a full time job at her local shelter after graduating high school, having volunteered there before.

With time, effort and a lot of energy she made her way into the position of "animal control officer" now she spends her days busting animal's abusers doors and rescuing injured or neglected pets.

With long shifts and a high maintenance job, her time was all poured into her work. Usually she'd be exhausted after a long day.

Despite that, she's fulfilled and satisfied with her job. Not having to deal with a lot of people is a plus too, it's a hard job yes but she prefers it this way.

Her friends are bumped about not being able to see her a lot but they understand, plus she keeps in touch with them by lurking in the group chat only to send a snarky remark to stir the pot every now and then.

Bertolt sees her everyday because they work at the same animal shelter, even if their jobs are different they still walk home together, she also met some different people like Hitch and Marco at her job.

The kids love her job, they think it's badass, especially Gabi and Udo. Gabi because Annie gets to kick people in the face and Udo because he genuinely cares about animals.

She'd never tell anyone this, but part of the reason she wanted the job was because she felt guilty for her past self and wanted to fight for those who couldn't fight for themselves.

Bertolt is a veterinarian.

Having changed his mind post graduation and going to college instead of with Reiner, he graduated after 4 years of studying and is currently working with Annie at the local shelter while also planning to open his own clinic one day.

He takes some animals under his personal care for weeks or months even till they get adopted, he fears something bad will happen to the weak or ill ones if left at the shelter overnight.

Just like Annie, the job takes a lot of his time, not to mention caring for animals off of work. So he's in the same situation as her, but for the sake of his best friend he still finds time to visit and hang out once a week.

Reiner and him still text daily, it's mostly pictures Bertolt took of the animals, Annie on her break, interesting plants he finds along the way. And Reiner replies with pictures of the kids.

They still find time to play basketball together, they try to keep it a secret from Annie because she will kick their ass in it.

Bertolt is comfortable with his job, he feels like he belongs and likes being needed. Yes the long hours are a con but seeing the fruits of his labour grow and get better day by day makes it all worth it.

The kids like visiting his house because there usually will be a new dog or some animal in there every month or so, Reiner makes sure they don't bother the animals. 

Something he's never told anyone is a big part of the reason he changed his mind last minute was because Animals feel much safer and secure for him to work with than humans.

Colt is a college student working part time.

He's majoring in nursing, being a four years degree he's trying to balance his studies with work and taking care of Falco.

Zeke offered him to work full time after graduation at his clinic, since he's been working part time there for a while and the pay is good, plus it's really convenientnal.

He has worked different part time jobs in the past like a barista, flower shop assistant, tutor, kindergarten teacher, etc.

Between all his responsibilities he barely has time for himself, his courses end right before his work starts and the small bits in-between is spent on Falco and his friends. Zeke and Pieck try to take some of his responsibility but he refuses saying it's the least he could do to Falco.

He's really good at his job like multitasking, reading people, gaining their trust and having high stamina that he could stay for night shifts even.

He relies on coffee a lot.

Falco sees him as a real life superhero, they weren't that close before but after the incident he really started appreciating his big brother. 

Something he keeps inside is that despite pursuing this job because he genuinely wanted to make a difference in people's lives and help the sick, he also felt a crushing guilt after his parents passed away, and so he's trying to save other people's lives now instead.

Marcel is a pilot.

It's a dream he always had since middle school, soon after graduation he joined the military to gain enough flying hours and experience to apply to a commercial airline after taking some mathematics, aviation and some general flying courses.

He was officially hired as a pilot after getting his first class medical certificate to check his health.

His work isn't measured by hours to him but by days, he needs to be available 24/7 in case of an emergency call. Now he's working overseas and far away from his friends.

You've actually never met Marcel, only seen pictures of him and received letters. The person he keeps in touch with the most is Porco.

He likes his work, it's his dream. He doesn't like the work hours and being so absent from his friends and brother, he misses them so much at times.

Pieck is a tattoo artist.

Her shop is actually her old flower shop after she decided to change her career. She's always been good with plants and taking care of them, at that time Colt worked as her assistant. 

It wasn't till later after some years of practice and training under other artists that she was confident enough about her skills to start the project 

Her art is full of life, mesmerising and beautiful. She puts her soul in every piece and has gained a good reputation because of it, plus having really high ratings and strict hygiene rules, no health inspector could ever challenge her.

Having her own independent work meant that she has a very flexible schedule, being mostly free ment she could pursue other hobbies like gardening.

A peaceful and simple life where she can indulge in her art and be happy is all she ever wanted

Porco is a frequent customer of hers that gets a family discount, Zeke came once before and later sent his friend, a really tall and blonde woman who became her most frequent customer.

Zofia thinks her work is really cool and wants to go and just watch her do her thing, but it's frowned upon to have a kid just sitting at a tattoo shop.

Despite changing into this career, the town people still think of her as the sweet flower shop lady.

Porco is a bartender.

That job came to him by accident more than anything, he was working part time as a bouncer in a local bar but a slot was open after the old bartender suddenly quit and he gave it a chance.

He didn't expect to love it so much, neither did he know about his hidden talent in mixing drinks. So he took it as full time and changed to better bars after gaining the experience he needed.

Being naturally charismatic and good at influencing people, while also multitasking in making drinks and keeping a conversation going, he was instantly a hit in whatever place he worked at.

Working the night shift ment he's mostly free in the morning, he tries to help Pieck with her gardening and is actually attempting to grow some plants at his house.

Naturally whenever there's a gathering, he's the one mixing drinks and being the self assigned bartender who openly judges his friends for their choice in drinks. The charismatic persona being thrown out the window and replaced by a no mouth filter.

He genuinely cares tho, he's the one taking care of someone when they drink more they can handle. It's mostly Colt who underestimates his drinks and is left clinging to Porco who drives him home.

Because of his line of work, tattoos and general brash personality, the kids' parents don't like him even one bit. They're suspicious of him no matter how many times Reiner assures them he's trustworthy.

It's actually only Colt who trusts Falco with him, and maybe Zofia's mom who is at the bar every weekend. 

Reiner is a firefighter.

With his mother pushing him into this line of work, he applied for the physical and psychological exams after graduation before getting accepted. He wasn't unprepared per say but actually being in that line of work was more than he could ever prepare for.

It instantly took a great hit at his mental health, so much in fact that he was thankful Bertolt changed his mind last minute and didn't follow him in this job.

It was both everything he ever wanted, like saving people, helping children, animals and knowing it's him who saved them even if it means putting his own life at risk.

But also everything he hated, like the hunting faces and screams of the people who were far too gone for him to save, the recurring nightmares and constant guilt paired with imposter syndrome.

He works a 24/72 shift, meaning he works for a whole day before getting 3 days off. Approximately only working 7-8 days a month, not to mention unpaid leave, sick days and holidays.

So it both gave him a really tight schedule on some days and on others more free time than he knows what to do with, that's why he naturally took the main role of being the kid's caretaker. Looking after his little cousins genuinely helped him and he liked playing the big brother role.

Especially to Gabi, he was the only stable adult in her life. It's common knowledge that you call Reiner first for anything concerning her before her parents because he's more likely to answer and be available.

After meeting you, his life improved to the better as you moved in and became a trustworthy person in his life, someone he can depend on to take care of his little cousins on the days he works.

Not to mention that after you persuaded him to see a therapist, his mental health began improving too.

Gabi may or may have not committed arson at one point, she still wants to be a firefighter despite that and follow in Reiner's footsteps.

He hasn't told anyone beside you this, but he really fears for her, but doesn't have the heart to tell her no.

Zeke is a doctor.

Previously he worked in a hospital but was able to open his own clinic afterwards, Colt was a great help to him at that time when he was getting on his own feet and even worked a lot of unpaid hours.

After that he insisted Colt works an official part time job there with a much higher pay, till he graduates at least. Plus the experience will greatly improve his resume.

Zeke is brilliant at his job, he'd be a perfect doctor wasn't it for the fact he's a huge hypocrite who doesn't follow the advice he gives his patients. 

He does a side job in his free time that honestly no one of his friends know what it is, but they know it gained him a lot of connections and made new friends.

Something he always keeps buried inside was that he really never expected himself to become a doctor especially after what his dad did to his mother, and yet here he is. In some way it's like his own personal stepping stone to prove he's a better man than his father ever was.
