So if Tumblr wasn’t enough of a “hellsite”, I just had the one-two punch of 1. learning that people are abbreviating “Global Village Coffeehouse” (which I’ve seen around a few parts of the ‘net in recent times) as “GVC” (which, as a Devo associate, was extremely disorienting at first) and 2. seeing the album art for the album Third Eye by Redd Kross categorized as such.

As someone who has seen Steven Shane McDonald do kung-fu Jesus kicks in the air with the Melvins one time, and even if you have not had that stellar privilege, it’s pretty obvious that their whole thing was, like, garish 70s glam-rockadelia vomit. (“Rockadelia” is probably not a real word, but they’ve got long hair and bell bottoms and awful patterns so that’s what I’d summarize that whole thing as.) They’re not, like, the Panera logo. You wouldn’t call, I dunno, Deee-Lite “global village coffeehouse” because they were all about peace and love or whatever. It’s basically historical revisionism to feed a current viral trend (with a bunch of unselfaware posts about how social media sucks oh so ironically peppered in between) and it’s dumb! Looking at graphic trends and how they evolve is interesting and can be a fun time. But why can’t people just...I don’t know...do their own thing without getting forced into easily sortable ~aesthetic~ categories?

SUCH A GOOD VILLAIN.

When he’s a lighthearted probably-just-a-villain-of-the-week, he’s hilarious. I particularly loved him begging the store owner not to fight him off with a bat because this is his first robbery, please don’t make this a bad experience for him. He’s never done this before! It’s like he’s apologetic for the robbery being so inefficient, not the crime itself. His insistence that he’s Miles’s Nemesis instantly reminded me of The Panda Redd’s Lord Death Man videos. Him innocently saying “Oh, I love chai tea!” after Pavitr’s rant and Pav screaming “No!” and attacking him cracked me up. Despite his supervillain nemesis dreams, he’s so… polite and affable. Almost Doofenschmirtz-esque at times. Tell me Doof wouldn’t apologize in the exact same way for the “I came to India on a journey of self-discovery” faux pas.

I love that he’s the bagel guy. I treasure that moment with its bagel sound effect and I’m so glad they brought it back. He would cry so hard watching Everything Everywhere All at Once.

But the fact that he’s intertwined with Miles’s origin story and each of their superpowered conditions are unintended consequences of the other’s actions is highly relevant to the narrative, where the rippling consequences of your actions are a major theme. It’s kind of a fundamental Spider-Man thing, after all. It’s genuinely unsettling when he begs/demands Miles to look at him, really see him, and take him seriously. Even if he then literally kicks his own butt. It hits a lot harder after we see how isolating and distressing being an anomaly is to Miles himself. You can understand why Spot would obsess over their connection. Him starting out laughable and growing to be epic is an echo of Miles’s development in the first film - complete with a mostly black appearance upgrade when he gets the hang of it.

The tone blending is so masterful with him because he is also, somehow so scary. When he stops acting silly and friendly, it’s chilling. His powers are terrifyingly effective and dangerous and it seems like he hasn’t even fully unlocked their potential by the end of the movie. His appearance is silly (“Are you some sort of Cow Man?”) until it’s not; until it sinks in that he is a reality-rending cosmic abomination full of resentment, pain and spite, and his lack of a face or even eyes makes him feel more disturbingly eldritch than cartoonish. I cannot wait to see what he’s capable of in Beyond, and I hope the beautiful imagery puts Lovecraft to shame.

HI i'm coming in here with an ask since i have a lot of thoughts but this is a continuation of the whole split personality / headcanoning c!Owen with DID (or any other dissociative disorder that fits that thread)

he's a guy that has complicated morals and ALSO i still don't understand where the whole separation of him into the Pre-maze & Maze started. Like... he's the same guy he's always been, just with a very skewed judgement that really is more to be blamed on STARR than anything! I'm firmly of the belief that STARR controlled when/if people remembered things, and I still think they weaponized him remembering his past fully.

see also: the scene with magic leaving him to die. like. did people seriously fall for that? it was basically textbook trying to get somebody to believe what you want them to. hell! he tried to do the same thing to c!redd only for it to backfire. like...

as somebody with a dissociative disorder, i genuinely don't see it? it just ticks me off, lol

people are just afraid of liking a character they don't agree with. which is just dumb. c!owen is an irredeemable asshole as far as i'm concerned, but does that stop people from writing him as trying to be good / trying to be a good person? no! you're allowed to just backpedal and say "i don't agree with canon" without some bs poorly thought through headcanon that just hurts people.

You can tell by the tone of his voice, where he pauses and what he choices to emphasize , he repeats himself to make the same point, he weaponizes magics guilt, he holds eye contact with the knife for FAR to long, and if he WAS SOMEHOW ACTUALLY BEING TRUE i think he wouldn't be all that upset at dyeing and understand that he was protecting his friends in doing so. it just doesn't line up.

of course there was everything with Fruit trio. He was called militaristic during the elections. the first thing he asks Krow is if it knows how to fight. first interaction with Krow in clearing a is asking to get a closer look at its horns. he was really the only one to ever draw that distinction between the human and demons. no one else ever brought it up. everything with the weapons. the first thing he calls himself after making the bow is a "hunter" which isn't wrong. he just didn't realize what exactly he was hunting. HE WOKE UP WITH RASBI IN THE ELEVATOR. LIKE THERE IS SO MUCH FORESHADOWING. IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN APART OF HIM.

Im also sure the whole STARR controlling when they get memories back is cannon. along with he whole protecting demons thing, its part of his monologue when he kills Rasbi.

i never liked that head cannon and im glad to finally be able to talk about it with someone who understands what im saying when i rant about it.

ooh thank you for giving me an opportunity to rant a little!!!! (this is also reference for myself- i had to list them all out on the front page of my new notebook just so i won't forget any of their names lol)

Backstory characters

Gemria Bozzahr: Arvid’s mother who, as a young gold dwarf girl, got pregnant out of wedlock in a short and tumultuous relationship with a kind duergar soldier (Arvid senior, Arvid Vicehold). She gave birth in the nearest monastery, in secret, and left the infant there when she realized that the boy was born a corpse-blue that betrayed his duergar blood. Arvid understands and is happy with her decision, as he knows this was the best thing she could have done for the both of them. (He might seek her out post-game. I’d like it if they had a nice relationship, and I think it’d be cute if the first time they really met was at his wedding.)

Father Ebrum: the Warlyon (head) of the Tempuran monastery where Arvid was raised- an old shield dwarf who took a quick shine to the boy who proved a quick study and a talented acolyte. He was Arvid’s unofficial guardian and mentor.

Parker and Redd: Arvid’s childhood friends- two village boys (a human and a halfling respectively) who didn’t mind that their friend was blue. They kept a very close relationship until Arvid moved to Baldur’s Gate (and rekindled their friendship once he moved to Waterdeep).

[Honestly, I kind of love how that wedding, there would be 1 (one) little dwarf lady with her partner, 1 (one) wizened old dwarf, 2 (two) friends and their families, and Shadowheart sitting on Arvid’s side, and half the Blackstaff faculty, two wizards of literal legend, and like 150 assorted Dekarioses on Gale’s.]

Herric Birchlight: Iona’s human ex-husband. Iona considers the version of her that was his wife to have died at his hands. He's about 52-53 years old now (he was 18 and she was 27 when they married, and were "together" for 34 years).

Karissa Dawnbreath: Iona’s tiefling friend and sort-of-ex-lover- it was more of an emotional affair than anything else. She was the one who revealed Iona’s magic to the rest of the compound out of fear when she found out about it herself. It kickstarted the events that resulted in half the village burning down and Iona fleeing to Baldur’s Gate.

Sylhorn Raedir: Iona’s father- a mature elf in the most typical way (he was around 230-ish when Iona was born). Very passive, stayed even after his daughter’s magic would have gotten them cast out from the Emissaries of the Immaculate- essentially he didn’t see the weight of a few decades of repression and low-grade crappiness as being too steep a price to pay for their comfortable life.

Jadwiga Raedir: Iona’s human stepmother and Sylhorn’s second wife. She was the one who brought Sylhorn and his then-young daughter (13-ish at the time) into her religion, which is a strange offshoot of Ilmaterian faith. Fundamentally kind, but very ignorant and fearful of magic. (She's almost 100 years old now, pretty impressive. Sylhorn is a very devoted caretaker for her.)

(Petyr and his brother were raised by a polycule of four adults- not an unusual family structure among at least that particular grove of druids. They chose a last name that felt right for all of them.)

Sionn Wildbrook: Petyr’s older brother. Also a half-elf, a very talented druid, and essentially what Petyr would be if he wasn’t…. well. himself. If he was better. Sionn may just be the sole source of his bitchiness and general inferiority complex. (Technically, they’re probably not biologically related though, but the boys do look rather alike for two people who aren't strictly related- only Sionn kind of naturally is everything Petyr would have wanted to be.)

Ayleth Wildbrook: Petyr’s biological mother (he calls her “mum”), a half-elf woman and a gifted healer.

Lorabellis Wildbrook: Petyr’s other mother (calls her "mother"), a human and a very talented and well-respected warrior of the grove. Sort of their equivalent of a guard-captain and Sionn’s biological mother.

Gilnian Wildbrook: One of Petyr’s fathers ("father")- an elf, and a general trader in he grove. Going by his looks, he’s most likely to be Petyr’s biological father as they look a lot alike.

Ciaran Wildbrook: Petyr’s other father ("dad")- a half-elf and a forester/druid himself. Likely Sionn’s biological father.

(these I just adapted from the backstory I wrote for him as Inquisitor!)

Bann (here Duke) Hanley Trevelyan: Ray’s father. In this universe, he died fairly recently, as an elderly and well-respected man, to run-of-the-mill nobles' heart disease brought forth by a life lived in leisure and luxury.

Lady Adeline Blanchefleur Trevelyan née d’Argent: Ray’s mother- a tall and imposing, statuesque beauty even now. Elderly recent widow with a tenuously warm relationship with her (also recently widowed) son.

Edmund Lawrence Trevelyan: Ray’s elder brother- an enchanter originally, now a wizard. Doesn't have a whole lot to do in this universe, lol.

Lydia Ambrosine Trevelyan: Ray’s elder sister, a no-nonsense and politically shrewd woman and the owner of vast swaths of lands through her husband’s family. She’s one of the most influential names in the Sword Coast’s wine industry.

Elora: Ray’s old elven nanny/caretaker who was a mother to him in all the ways Lady Adeline wasn’t. She died when he was just around 20-21 years old.

Ser Bradamante: Ray’s old teacher- a respected chevalier who taught him all he knew initially about swordfighting. He still visits her often.

Lady Angélique Léontine Sauveterre Benoit née d’Arlesans: she was originally Ray’s betrothed. They thankfully never wound up going through with that marriage of convenience (for reasons outside of their control- which is how they got engaged in the first place), and now in their later adulthood have an unexpectedly warm friendship between them. She used to be actually kind of in love with him, but she was very young then (only 16 when they got engaged, 18 when he disappeared for two years, and 20-21 when he became Inquisitor and met his future husband), and as an adult is overall understanding and grateful that he stepped out of the picture before they could have been wed.

Richard “Rich”, son of Thierry: Ray’s first love, when he was just a teenager. That relationship was a very formative experience for him.

Assuran: one of the avatars of the god Hoar, the Doombringer, and Phyr’s ex-lover. It’s... a long story.

Kismet Zarali: Phyr’s mother. Dipped shortly after Phyr (then Glory) was born- Phyr to this day doesn’t know the reason.

Prospero Zarali: Phyr’s father. To describe their relationship would be very long and complicated, but what really matters is that he was pretty resentful and neglectful of his daughter and died in a mugging when she was 17.

Fentoris Mistborn: the elven captain of the order of oath of the crown paladins acting as the guards/Flaming Fist in Warford, and the person who pulled Phyr literally from beneath the gallows to recruit her. He ended up being both her teacher and her closest confidant, and the only person she said goodbye to when she left the order and took an oath of vengeance instead. (he was one of my partner's characters in Neverwinter, we kind of came up with part of Phyr's story together)

Lochledge: Phyr’s ex-employer. He's a prominent underworld figure (and landlord, and loan shark) in Warford, and ran events called “Fight Nights”- essentially an underground boxing/MMA ring. Phyr, went to him for work after her father's death, and was his prize fighter for years, because nobody expected such a small girl to be as vicious, ruthless, and resilient as she was. She just... kept getting up, biting, goring with horns, etc. While not without animosity and devoid of trust, their relationship was not entirely hostile- she was sort of his favorite little attack dog, and he liked keeping her around as insurance when he was throwing his weight around. (She had intended to give him her name as "Fear", and he was the one who decided that it should be "Phyr" instead- then he expanded it to "Phyridia" to sound fancier, and she just adopted it.)

CW: Redd ranting about psychology frustrations

Thinking about swapping my art minor into a psychology minor (I already completed the starter classes in high school), but self diagnosis culture already gets my blood pressure up and I don’t anymore of a reason to hate it.

I see the same damn arguments defending it, which is wild alone, and it irks me even more as someone who grew up so dirt poor. People need to learn that: their symptoms ARE valid and that the self diagnosis ISN’T.

There is a reason as to why you require a medical professional and lots of work to get a diagnosis. Yes there are bad psychiatrist, doctors, everything out there. Yes the American healthcare system is from the bottom level of hell. Yes the DSM-5 is a fucking mess and needs an entire revamp for so many reasons.

None of that means self diagnosing is going to help you in any way. Your symptoms are valid, if assurance and validity is what you’re looking for. Seeing shit? Don’t presume you have schizophrenia. It could be schizo-affective disorder, hypnogenic hallucinations, PTSD, a bad blunt whatever, it could even be a physical ailment. You seeing shit is valid though. It is a terrifying and valid experience, and looking into that and doing research can really help you.

Looking into particular disorders and stuff can also help you, as it can guide you into the future were you might want to take a diagnosis or tackle a symptom if you see fit.

Going I most definitely have this leads to stereotyping, misinformation, difficulty for treatment for those that the disorder, increases ableism against those diagnosed, doctors and medical workers becoming skeptical, ruining and invading on the culture of those actually with the disorder (I primarily see this with ASPD), making difficult in the future to continue research on mental health.

Of course its all a different story if its a disorder that is so blatantly obvious no one can ignore it. You should be mad at the United States healthcare system and not people against self diagnosis if you are unable to reach or afford proper mental healthcare or good doctors.

I myself am struggling with my current one, because they focusing on symptom for too long, and not what I want to look into. It happens. I’ve had bad primary care physicians too but I’m not going to go home and diagnose my physical ailments.

Not to mention how deadly it is. If you self diagnose and then go to a doctor and they roll with it, you could get treatment for something you don’t have and that can really really really mess you up. You also could be consuming the treatment products of a disorder you don’t have, that other people need. The United States runs out of healthcare stuff a lot, and you’d be surprised that it’s mostly because trends have caused people to bullrush particular medical products.

It invalidatess and makes the jobs more difficult for the good doctors actually out there, and people looking to become doctors.

AA Live action adaptation would also tone down/possibly remove entirely Narumitsu so as not to piss off China. Miles and Phoenix will actually hate each other and possibly make them Democrat/Republican.

Miles would be twisted into an evil white guy and sissy stereotype (but they will never allude to him being actually into men because again… Xinnie). There will be jokes about toxic masculinity related to him though.

Phoenix’ entire motivation to become an attorney will be “for the law” and Franziska will be so much more awesome than him and even make him accept “the law is bad and sexist and you have to break it.”

The dialogue will consist entirely of Cinemasins like quips and Marvel tier jokes.

Mia would get race washed, have even LESS screen time (her backstory in TT will be removed), and be the “sassy black girl mammy” stereotype. Her death at the hands of Redd White will use racist/historical symbolism and motifs. Oh, and speaking of Democrats and Republicans, Redd White would turn from an America-obsessed Japanese man (in the Japanese version), to a man who pretends to sound more cultured than he is (in the American version), to the most blatant, on-the-nose MAGA caricature you can imagine. Manfred would become a sexist, homophobic, transphobic white supremacist, because why not. Godot would be the most offensive macho Latino stereotype ever, and Franziska, instead of taking his insults, would go on a 5 minute rant on how hard her life is because she's a woman and how badass women are for surviving catcalling, mansplaining, manterrupting and manspreading.

And bonus points if Dahlia gets racewashed into a black girl because, well, redheads can't exist :^)

The screen is starting to look a little blurry after the first half an hour of Mario Kart. It was the only game that xe currently has the brainpower to actually process and play, even if xe’s straying from Manual mode this time. While Redd and Dream aren’t super close friends, xe can appreciate his presence when it’s offered; he’s one of the few that seems to understand the extent of what xe has to push xemself to. It may not be particularly *good* that the both of them have habits of overworking themselves, but at least they can understand and relate to each other. Redd can rattle on about the difficulties of xyr day without being told to take it down a notch for once, and in turn, xe listens to returned ranting… all while frantically mashing the buttons of a Wii remote and starting to lag behind. Again. Tiredness has xem losing focus.

Somehow, Dream crosses the finish line first and Velvet lightly punches his shoulder with a grin and congratulations.

“You only won because I’m, like, about to pass the fuck out,” xe claims. Which is pretty true. A lack of sleep last night has xem absolutely shattered, flesh greyed beneath xyr eyes. But they insist one more game, because neither of them are quitters, right?

With both characters lost somewhere on the map, and remotes unknowingly discarded at random on the floor, Dream and Velvet (supposedly at the same time) are unmoving. Still apart from gentle rising and falling of chests and shifting uncomfortably on beanbag chairs. Overworking themselves has its consequences… apparently.
