DPXDC Prompt #138

Damian decided he wanted to be a veterinarian in his spare time so after high school he applied to Gotham University and moved into the dorms. Alfred and his Father highly encouraged it something about getting that college dorm experience and they were pushing him to make a friend or two. He also didn’t know what to expect from his roommate Nightingale, something was off about him and Damian was determined to find out what that is.

Danny just wanted to get his engineering degree. Unfortunately his new roommate seemed curious about him. After he ran away from home he decided he’d try to make it on his own. He didn’t even try to tell his parents about Phantom, their prejudice about ghosts wasn’t going away soon and the sooner he got away the safer he’d be. He had to think about the infinite realms now and keeping their king, well himself, safe was the best option at the moment. If only the Observants could stop appearing in unexpected places to beg him to return to the realms.

Some thoughts on Steven's new show, and the hate that's been directed at him lately

spoiler alert: the tl;dr is that people's assumptions about the new food show being expensive meals aren't in the trailer and I'm happily subscribed to Watcher TV now!

One of the most awful things about this announcement has been seeing people attacking Steven specifically, and making a lot of assumptions about him. I (probably unwisely) spent a couple hours in the yt comment section and found things like this:

And then I saw this tumblr comment that do a wtf face irl:

Keith's new eating show is at Michelin star restaurants... to call that relatable and Steven not? Honey, that's either racism or some implicit bias you need to examine (I watch some TG content, it's fine to like Keith, but damn this take isn't it y'all)

But my main point is: No one said Steven and Andrew are going to be having expensive meals on the new show.

(yeah, remember Andrew is on the show too? but all hate is directed at Steven? isn't that interesting...)

That was Buzzfeed. This is Watcher. They aren't going to repeat themselves. Also, Worth It was about showing food across ALL price points, especially in later seasons once they had a more stable platform at BF. It was about giving chefs across cultures (especially Asian communities) a voice.

I re-watched the teaser for Travel Season, and I also signed up for Watcher TV (it was about $3.50/month with the annual discount promo) and I watched the full trailer for Travel Season. Guess what wasn't mentioned? Food at expensive price points.

Travel Season is going to be six episodes per season, all in one location, focusing on food and experiences that place has to offer. This is more economical from a production standpoint, because the team can travel to a location and shoot episodes in a batch. Similar to how they can get four episodes of TMS filmed in one night. Sounds like they are approaching Travel Season in a smart and efficient way.

Sure, maybe they'll try some higher priced dishes at some point, but Travel Season is about culture and food - not about clickbait titles for Buzzfeed where they need to have $1,000 ice cream. If you've seen the food content Steven's made at Watcher (Homemade, Grocery Run, Eat Like Me) you know he cares about highlighting the connections between people and food, to share cultures and ideas with the viewers.

I am supporting Watcher's new endeavor, and hope they can make it work for more of their audience over time. Some people choose to pay $4.99/month for a Twitch sub to support one creator - which is their right. I am spending $5.99/month (but actually much cheaper for this first year) to support an entire company. If this works, Watcher could bring on other creators, as they've wanted to all along, and hopefully usher in an era of entertainment from a diverse group of independent creators.

Yes, Steven Lim took on the role of CEO of Watcher Entertainment recently, but the other founders still have an active role in the company. Like it or not, they all had a vote in making the switch to a streaming service. Singling out Steven in comments like those above isn't a good look for anyone.

It's been so long since I touched watercolors and I've had this new paint set for a while now, so it felt like the perfect time to use it. This was another request for submitted through @twst-charity for Palestine and I was so happy to complete this! They requested creepy and cute Shroud brothers and I thought I would lean into the Greek underworld route since Idia is specifically based off of Disney's Hades. Designing his and Ortho's outfits were very fun, especially when I was able to incorporate some gold embellishments to their look to stand out and give a bit of an antique-like feel to the illustration. I liked it so much, I had to add gold to the flowers, skull, a tiny part of the pomegranate slices, and on the chalices.

Here is a better image of the glitter actually glittering but I had to tilt the image at angle for it to be seen so it's a bit cropped.

I feel the need to remind people because I’ve made mistakes like this before (covers safety when it comes to sh cuts)

I am pro recovery: anti recovery/pro @na dni (interaction on this post is ok, just don’t follow my account)

(Epidermis) cuts that look like cat scratches need to be disinfected either before or after breaking skin but can usually go without bandaids

(Dermis) if you hit white it needs to be disinfected before AND after, way higher risk of infection, I’d also suggest bandaging it as leaving these wounds in the open can cause complications

(Fat) if you hit yellow it needs stitches and or actual medical care, these have an insanely high risk of infection, bandages should be changed regularly and everything MUST be kept sterile

Don’t swim in rivers/creeks/the ocean/public pools with ANY open wounds.

along side this, try to keep track of major arteries to ensure you don’t nick them, as this can cause you to bleed out far faster then just hitting a vein; arteries are carrying blood away from the heart (it has more pressure behind it)

Symptoms of infection: Redness and swelling, heat at the wound site, pus or other drainage, fever/chills, swollen lymph nodes, delayed healing.

So what can be used to disinfect the site/blade?: skin safe alcohol, iodine, hydrogen peroxide (only for use on the skin, it’ll rust your blade), Vodka or Moonshine (burns like hell, BUT technically an option?), warm water (hot or boiling water for the blade, make sure to dry well to avoid rusting) and unscented soap (baby soap works well)

Always check that the blade you are using isn’t rusted nor showing signs that it might be starting to rust. (Stainless steel is your friend)

A list of small good things in case the world feels a little not so good:

Two little kids got to get matching heart sunglasses at my store and were having the time of their lives from the second their parents agreed they’d behaved well enough to get them.

A young girl came into my store today, and tried on an unpopular pair of pants and when I complimented the way she looked in them (she was pulling them off so well) she started beaming and explained how she needed them for a presentation but felt unsure about them even though she liked them.

For the first time since we got our cat, my sister and her finally bonded and got along

An elderly lady came into my store this week and got so excited because she happened to find a jacket that her sister would adore for 6 bucks.

A man who recently moved to our town and doesn’t speak English has already started connecting with the people in our neighborhood despite the language barrier.

Last week a man saw me smile at his puppy while I was leaving work and let me pet him.

My brother and his wife finally found an affordable house where we live so they can move back home and no longer have to live so isolated anymore.

And perhaps the greatest of all: I finally figured out how to spell the word necessary (it’s the small things really)

Reminder that good things are happening everywhere all the time we just don’t like to give them the attention that they deserve. So if the world is feeling bad give the small good things some attention. You’re going to get through this, I believe in you and I believe in the good.

DPXDC Prompt #143

Shout out to @jedipirateking, their comments yesterday gave me an idea.

Danny is sent to another world by Clockwork. He just had his 16th birthday and Clockwork said he was nearly ready to take the thrown of high king of the infinite realms. He was to go to an alternate dimension and live there for a couple years as there were so many different dimensions out there that he’d be in charge of he needed to know what to expect. He winds up in the DC world and started exploring to get his bearings. He runs into one of the Green Lanterns and decides to observe them.

Soon Danny notices how close ectoplasm is to their powers and he begs them to train him. Hal does eventually and they soon form a mentor, protege bond. I’m thinking it would be really funny if they bond for a while and then Hal takes him to headquarters and then finds out the kid he's been training is actually a prince and something akin to a baby god.

some thoughts on mystra's relationship with gale

idk if this will be considered a hot take or whatever but i'd been thinking about the dynamic between the two for a while and i'd like to imagine i have a perspective on it that could add to the discussion (or not, lmao) and i'm too annoying not to put it down into words

i'll start by saying i'm a teacher and have been teaching for a while. i'm looking at mystra from a teacher's perspective - a teacher of magic, not just a 'mother' per se but solely as a figure of education. a lot of times, people really don't realise how much influence teachers have over their pupils. we have so so so so much influence, so much authority and implicit trust placed in us from our students, regardless of how young/old a student is.

additionally, as a teacher i cannot state how incredibly weird and uncomfortable it would be and is for any student to take a personal interest in me even platonically - it's so easy to take that boundary and abuse it. if a teacher wanted to cause emotional harm to a student, they could do so with a disturbing amount of ease. it's genuinely very important that teachers recognise this.

so with mystra as gale's personal teacher and mentor, it creeps me the fuck out that mystra entirely overstepped the boundary of teacher into that of lover. she took an implicit and complete trust in her as an authority figure to pursue a romantic interest in a student that had been in her sights since he was underage. that is so unfathomably creepy and wrong to do that it just makes me so repulsed.

this isn't even getting into the other components of mystra's reputation among wizards as a literal goddess, but even in this dynamic it's so gross and morally wrong

Princess Mothra Astra, the daughter of Godzilla and Mothra! Heir to the throne, and the Angel of Stars who foretold that she would one day become the ruler and protector of the Earth.

She is born on the twilight morning of the third day of April, where a single white star aligned above the heavens and the sunrise. She is revealed to be the Star Goddess' avatar, christening her blood and soul to the very beginning of her cycle. Both Godzilla and Mothra vowed to cherish her life and learning to become a protector and guardian at all times.

Until a terrible fate happens to the Princess. She was killed under the wrath of Ghidorah, the One who is Many in the eyes of the King and Queen. After Ghidorah's icy imprisonment, she made her final wish to her parents: she will be buried on the twilight eve from the parts of the island (the Philippines rather) where she will watch them and her people, and her promised about one day, she will be incarnated...

As centuries have passed after her death, the Princess' soul now resides on her human incarnation, Ma. Celestina, who would one day find the true meaning of the past and discovering her self.

Hello! And welcome to those who read my Godzilla fanfiction titled "Princess of the Monsters"!

The wait is over!

This is Mothra Astra. And this is also how I depicted her in her Titan form: she is a moth like Mothra, but has dorsal plates behind her wings like Godzilla and it acts like a carapace to protect her body from any danger. She also feeds on radiation, well, half of it. Crystals are her main power because of how resourceful and more powerful the Earth's core's radiation was; she can harness it by detecting 'a twinkling sound' and pinpoints it to the area she used to.

She is depicted to have a symbol of a six-pointed star on her forehead, indicating the avatar of the Star Goddess and supposedly rebirth.

Her appearance made her more ethereal and divine like. She is graceful, kind, loving and helpful like Mothra, and stubborn, strong, feisty, and equally powerful like Godzilla. One thing that describes her is her curiousity because of what was beyond the heavens wherein she could see those who died became stars, a belief she shared from her parents.

There are more stories for her to come. And I only posted this short background for her. Thank you all for liking my art! I work tirelessly just to come up with this!
