What are your top 5s in anything TVDU related? (Characters, ships, friendships, familial bonds, episodes, etc.)
Ooh, my first question. Thank you for asking!
Even though I've watched tvd first, but I prefer the originals to it. So, my answer is going to be mostly about them.
I'm going to do the characters separately.
First, characters from T.O
Elijah Mikaelson (because he was the calm before the storm, I don't know how to describe him, he was just so resilient and holding onto his brother when the entire world could only see a monster in him, and for all his complex layers.) and Hayley Marshall (because she was a BAMF, the best mother you could have) fighting for first place, but none of them can win.
Camille O'Connell because she was such a ray of sunshine. (Caroline stans do not come at me, this is about two characters who have literally never met.)
Freya Mikaelson was such a badass.
Klaus Mikaelson because he had the best retorts and sarcasm.
Gia because she was so down to earth about everything. (Putting her after Klaus feels so wrong lmao.)
Now, Tvd characters. I can't conjure any explanation for them.
Caroline Forbes
Enzo St. John
Stefan Salvatore
Rayna Cruz
Rose from S2
Ships.
Haylijah, because have you seen them? The chemistry, the compatibility, the love and all the respect. (S5 never happened.)
Bonenzo because they were so good together, and Enzo actually loved Bonnie and didn't spend his time using her.
Klamille, because Camille could see beyond 'evil Klaus' and understood him like no one else ever did, and Klaus saw so much light in her, and he cared about her.
Steroline because they were also good together.
Gialijah because they had so much chemistry and there was just something about them
Friendships.
Caroline & Enzo, because he stepped up for her and they had something special about them.
Camille & Vincent, because they related to one another after all damage they got because of the Mikaelson family, and they made something good out of it.
Freya & Hayley because they spent years together raising Hope, and they bonded so well.
Stefan and Lexi because they do supportive besties better than anyone.
Bonnie and Damon because they have managed to go from sworn enemies to best friends.
Familial bonds.
Hayley and Hope. No one does mother and daughter better than them.
Elijah and Rebekah. We saw so many times how Elijah cared for her and how she looked up to him. I believe he was her favorite brother, even if the show wanted to make us believe it was Klaus.
Marcel & Davina. They're not family by blood, but the way he was her family more than her real family and tried to protect her meant so much.
Elijah and Hope. We did not get much of them, but they had so much potential. If the show didn't completely destroy Elijah to redeem Klaus, we might have seen him be the best uncle out there.
Freya/ Rebekah and Hope. These aunt/niece relationships were so good. Rebekah cared for her for months, and kept her safe, and Freya raised her with Hayley and taught her so much.
Finding episodes that I genuinely love from beginning to end is difficult.
TO S2E9: The Map of Moments. We had family, we had bickering and we had love.
TVD S3E14: Dangerous Liaisons. We had a ball straight out from a fantasy, do I need to say more?
TO S1E20: A Closer Walk with Thee. It was not a happy episode, but we had our first Haylijah kiss, and it's good enough to be in my top 5.
TO S5E8 : The Kindness of Strangers. As much as I hated S5, but this episode was so good. We saw the Mikaelson family reunited, and every time I watch Elijah break down after remembering Hayley's death, I can't help but cry.
TO S1E1: Always and Forever. This feels like such a basic answer, but I love this episode. It was the beginning of an epic tv show, and it's just so nostalgic.
These are the ones you mentioned, and I can't for the life of me think about anything else to rank. Anyway, I am awkward most of the time, and it includes this answer. So, don't judge me too harshly!

even though about me pages have generally burned me before, i’ve decided to make one anyway for the aesthetic appeal of my bio just being links lol. here’s some general info about me.
—anna —she/her —under eighteen, pls don’t be weird —bisexual —creator, graphics, moodboards, and the occasional gif —enjoys books and tv —rebekah mikaelson and (supposedly) evil female characters enthusiast —give me all the enemies to lovers, i just adore this trope so much —currently watching tvd, b99, the originals, & jane the virgin —reading list: beach read, serpent & dove
content you’ll see on this blog mostly —tvd (steroline, klaroline, forwood, elena/girls, elena/bonnie/caroline, beklena or caroline/rebekah, elejah, klaulena, beremy, klaus/bonnie, bamon, mikaelson siblings, and i am very much anti d*mon and de/ena so be warned, klaus mikaelson’s defense lawyer*) *while i do acknowledge the shitty things he has done and have no interest in woobifying him —the originals (klamille, rebekah enthusiast, rebekah/marcel, haybekah, haylijah, elijah/gia, kolvina, and klayley, as well as all the mikaelson siblings family dynamics because i am absolutely trash for this chaotic and dysfunctional family that has so much love; also yes klavina as a guilty pairing crackship but not really romo because they’re just klaulena 2.0 new orleans style okay?? *hides in the trash can*) —b99 (jake and amy, pretty much all the characters and pairings tbh) —jane the virgin (i adore petra and luisa so much and think they deserve better, i’m team petra and michael and rafael because being team one love interest is boring and jane deserves all the love and affection) —legends of tomorrow (i’m just a multishipping mess because this team is practically a polycule, but i don’t like ca/ity l/otz or ava/ance. mostly zarlie, hellstar, darhkatom, esperastra, and mixen) —f.r.i.e.n.d.s once in a blue moon —the 100 (because even though jroth and fandom turned this show into a nightmare i can’t quit, pro clexa, braven, becho, and more, but slightly bellarke and clarke critical, i adore spacekru and i stand by spacekru over c/arke always, josephine lightbourne enthusiast) —legacies (hizzie****, handon, fosie, jaleb, jed/alyssa/kaleb and not sorry about it, kaleb/cleo, cleo/landon, vehemently anti alaric, j/osie, and ho/aric, sometimes h/osie critical but i do show some appreciation for them) —lucifer (#1 mazeve stan, deckerstar isn’t a hyperfixation for me but they’re perfect for each other, i haven’t been in this fandom for a while so idk what else is really going on, and i miss charlotte richards and ella lopez) —shadow and bone (i’d choose malina over dark/ina in a heartbeat but i prefer alina & girls because zoyalina/genyalina love triangle would make for a much more interesting show, and i adore zoya and nina sfm; also the grishaverse in general) —cobra kai (sam/tory, any femslash ship on the show, tory/robby) —community (jeff + annie aren’t really my cup of tea, i prefer jeffbritta and firmly believe in trobed and trobedison)
books —the folk of the air (#1 jurdan stan, cardan’s defense lawyer) —the lunar chronicles (cresswe// critical, carswell thorne & rampion crew enthusiast, wolflet & jacinter stan) —soc duology (nothing even remotely bad to say about soc or the characters/pairings) —the hunger games (katniss, ever/ark, and ga/eniss neutral, mostly clato, odesta, and hayffie, as well as f/f pairings, career tributes and effie apologist, also katniss and gale are not white i don’t care what hollywood told you jlaw was not supposed to be able to represent the struggles lower class poc suffer through and not equipped to give a powerful performance) —the hating game (critical enthusiast, idk i just think there are better romance books but i did enjoy reading) —the unhoneymooners by christina lauren —you deserve each other by “i forgot the author lol sorry” —fan of any and all enemies to lovers books in general —anti sjm, don’t even compare jurdan anywhere near one of her romances bye —fic recs —edits —fanfiction

stop hating women for having emotions
Tumblr media
A trend throughout a lot of fandoms, and particularly TVDU, is to celebrate men for showing the bare minimum in emotional maturity and then hating women for trying to work through their own emotions. I've seen this so much recently with Hayley. She gets hate from all sides of the fandom because of the men people stan.
Now don't get me wrong, there are legitimate reasons to not like her in certain aspects, but if you have to mention a man's name to try and explain it to me, you've already lost me. Every man she comes in contact with has done equal if not worse. You don't need to hate a character simply because you like another character.
I've seen it from Klaus stans, Elijah stans, Jackson stans, etc. People use any excuse to hate her because she isn't as devoted to their fav toxic man as they are.
Personally, Hayley is one of my favorite characters in TVDU. And everyone knows my top favorite character is Elijah. Sure, I wish the writers would have given us more haylijah, but blaming Hayley solely for that is ridiculous. Elijah spent all of season 1 putting up barriers and still the only reason she turns to someone else is because she wants to protect her daughter. She then sacrifices nearly her entire life for the Mikaelson family. Jackson stans hate her because she doesn't love him like they think he deserves, but again, she never breaks her promise to him. The marriage was always political. Jackson knew this but caught feelings anyway, this is not Hayley's fault that he wanted to make it more. Klaus stans hate Hayley for so many reasons I can't even list them, but they are all utterly ridiculous. One thing Hayley will always do is put Hope first, not Klaus, as any mother would do. Maybe if the other mothers in the show had done this, we wouldn't have such toxic men (also this is not shifting blame onto women just pointing out the cycle of trauma).
Hayley, unlike many of the men, had good intentions most of the time and actually had character growth. She went from being a selfish, reckless young woman to a completely selfless, caring mother and alpha.
We see the same trends with Rebekah, Elena, Bonnie, Caroline, etc. All of the women are condemned whenever they try to process their emotions or put themselves first for once in their lives. I know the cast is made up of some attractive men, but we need to stop being so blinded by their appearance that we cannot recognize the importance of women fighting for their own happiness. Even if that happiness isn't from an attractive man. As Christina Yang would say, "He's not the sun, you are."

Did Jackson Love Hayley "Better" than Elijah
Tumblr media
One of my mutuals said this today and it's a common thing I hear, even from haylijah stans. That Hayley loved Elijah more but Jackson loved Hayley more than Elijah. Which I think is blatantly untrue.
To me, Jackson didn't know who Hayley was. They knew each other for two years total, and only interacted for about eight months of that time. Sure, that is enough time to get to know a person, but we never see Jackson get to know or try to understand Hayley. Hayley is a fiercely independent but loyal person, even to a fault. This is something Jackson should be able to appreciate as a leader of a pack, however, he never seems to understand where Hayley is coming from.
For instance, when Hayley begs Jackson to help her rescue Oliver and he refuses. At this point, Hayley has more reason to hate Oliver than Jackson as no one ever discovers that he killed Eve. But Jackson is mad that he took over the pack (while Jackson put up zero fight) and Hayley is mad that he tried to help murder her child. Yet, when Oliver is in danger, she puts that aside to go rescue him, almost getting herself killed. Jackson does show up at the last moment to help and you would think he's learned his lesson about loyalty, but it never extends to Hayley. Sure there may be 101 reasons for Hayley to not be loyal to the Mikaelsons, just like there were 101 reasons for Jackson not to be loyal to Oliver, but that's not how family works. It's something Jackson understood for himself but not for Hayley. He is upset that Aiden can't have a proper burial even after Aiden betrayed him, but he doesn't understand why Hayley skipped out on Thanksgiving dinner to try and save Rebekah's life. Rebekah who had never once betrayed Hayley.
The issue with the Crescent pack is their lack of loyalty and they never seem to learn their lesson. Whether Jackson likes it or not, the Mikaelsons are Hayley's family. She met them before she even met her real family. And all of her real family is dead because of the pack's lack of loyalty (yes, I know, the Hollow had to do with it, but the Hollow didn't make Oliver kill Eve). If Mary was in danger in the bayou and Jackson missed out on dinner to go help her, Hayley would understand. Hell, Hayley, would drop everything to go help.
The other trait ties into this, her independence. Hayley grew up on her own, basically raising herself. She doesn't like to be managed or told what to do. Something we see repeatedly from Jackson. He gives her multiple ultimatums and if she chooses wrong he essentially punishes her by either making her feel bad or actually leaving her. Hayley isn't allowed to be independent or make decisions without feeling guilty that she is choosing between the pack or the Mikaelsons, both of whom are her family.
These are the main character traits we see from Hayley and Jackson doesn't appreciate them at all. On the flip side, we do see Elijah appreciate them and encourage them. Elijah is constantly telling Hayley she has a choice. Even when he is worried for her safety (like when she goes off to meet the witch on her own), he lets her make the choice. He never begrudges her love for her pack. People love to point out his prejudices against wolves, and I admit, he does have them, but it is something we see him work through because of Hayley. After he meets her, the only time he disparages the pack is when he is actively trying to push her away. Otherwise, we see him actively risking his safety to save her pack multiple times. Something Jackson refused to do for the Mikaelsons.
Elijah admires her loyalty because it matches his own. He loves how fiercely she fights for the people she loves. He also loves her independence and how strong she is.
The biggest argument people make about Elijah not loving Hayley enough is that he "couldn't tell her how he felt." And I need all of the people that make this argument to make a timeline of the show.
Elijah doesn't tell Hayley in the beginning of season one because he is giving her space to come to terms with her life and also giving Klaus time. Although he is still massively flirty to the point that everyone, including Hayley knows he is into her. Pretty early in, he decides to go after what he wants, only stopping when he sees how happy Hayley is with her pack. He doesn't want to ruin her happiness or complicate her life, so he backs off. Hayley is then living in the bayou for a period of time, only moving back after she almost dies. This is when we get their first kiss, and yes Elijah does disappear. But their second kiss is literally the next day. It's not like he went months without acknowledging it. This time, he initiates it and tells her she "always has a choice."
After their second kiss, all hell breaks loose. Hayley dies and has to send her baby away, slipping into a depression that is made worse by becoming a hybrid. It would be super inappropriate for Elijah to try and begin a relationship at this point. She was completely overwhelmed by her emotions and her grief. Elijah gave her space and worked in the background to try and help her, always being there when she needed him. He is working to bring her daughter back, prioritizing that over his feelings.
Once Hayley is reunited with her daughter, she tells him about the unification ceremony and he tells her to do it, once again prioritizing Hope, as Hayley would want him to. They spend their night together because they both know it's all they have. By the time Hayley gets her daughter back, it is her wedding day. Sure it was not the best time to confess his feelings, but he wanted her to have a choice. He didn't want her to make decisions without knowing everything. But as soon as she tells him to stop, he does. He respects her decision and then her marriage, even defending Jackson against Klaus. He loved her even when he couldn't be with her and fought to respect her decisions, her independence, and her loyalty to even those outside of his family.
I think Jackson begins to realize this in his last days. I'm not saying he didn't love her and that he couldn't grow to love Hayley as she was. But he didn't try to understand Hayley until the end.
I say this every time I talk about Jackson, I don't hate his character. I just think he is vastly underdeveloped in the show and his love for Hayley was overhyped in season 4 to try and make Elijah look bad. Jackson was always just used by the writers as a way to ruin haylijah. Honestly, his character deserved better than that.
And sure, people say I'm biased against Jackson and I am. I grew up with a very controlling person in my life and it made me wary of controlling and manipulative men. Sure Elijah has done worse things, like murder (although we don't know the story of how Jackson triggered his curse), but for a fictional character, I'm still going to root for the man that allows Hayley to make her own decisions and supported her through those decisions.
Let me know what you think or if you disagree!

can you explain better what do you meant when you compared Elijah/Hayley to Marcel/Rebekah?
I mean that Klaus wasn’t okay with both relationships, and he fought them as much as he could, but there’s just so much you can fight some things. He realized that his actions of disapproval towards these relationships would end up leaving him alone, and he can’t stand this idea. Like Marcel said Klaus has always been afraid that Rebekah would love someone else more than she loves him, and he couldn’t stand that thought. Eventually he gave in and gave them his blessing, but it was too late. We saw Rebekah and Marcel teaming up against Klaus (in the past, and the present) trying to break free from his control, and Elijah and Hayley did it quite a bit too, when Elijah daggared him in order for Hayley to escape with Hope.
I still don’t think he’s 100% okay with both these relationships, far from it actually, but I think his fear of being tossed aside and his love for his siblings is stronger, and that’s why he eventually concedes this relationships, even if they somehow hurt him deep inside. That’s why I will never agree when people say to me that Klaus is the number 1 Haylijah stan, the same applies to Rebel. But this is, obviously, just my view on things. Everyone is free to think otherwise ;)
