Last time, you mentioned how much you enjoy the next two episodes of TO (1x05 & 06). What would you say is the most outstanding moment in each episode?

Hi Christina! Naturally before answering this I had to watch these two episodes—and good thing too, I need to watch as much of this beautiful, stupid show as I can before it disappears from Netflix in like half a month. :’)

First of all, these episodes are fun because Elijah is back. Elijah adds something fundamental to the show and the cast that I can’t quite describe—gravity? That’s not it exactly. Idk. The klebekah episodes are fun but I always feel like they’re a prelude. Buckle up kids, Elijah’s back—this is where the story really starts.

Second, the music is amazing! Here are some of my favorites—special shout-out to the struggle because it’s just so peppy. You have to understand, when I watch tv, what I deem “good” is purely id-based. If it makes me feel good (good being subjective—it can mean I’m crying) then it is good. Hence, TO is my favorite show.

While we’re on music, the soundtrack when Davina is describing the harvest? Ugh. All the feels. This is what the show has been missing—child sacrifice! (I’m sorry. I’m sorry.)

All right. In all seriousness, there are so many good moments in these eps. Elijah’s standoff with Davina. I really did think he meant to help her, silly me! I was almost disappointed he didn’t, because…well, it would’ve been interesting for Elijah to have favor with her! Klaus and Rebekah didn’t exactly make good first impressions; it wouldn’t hurt for one original to be nice to her.

The whole harvest flashback, slowly peeling away the layers of horror one by one.

Elijah’s dramatic entrance while Klaus and Marcel argue. The music, the silly lines, the perfectly timed shove. It’s all so…Elijah. Love that ridiculous man.

Vampire book club, complete with poetry and pretentious music. The kitchen scene with some not-so-subtle flirting on Elijah’s part. Hayley wanting to eat ice cream for breakfast (such a small detail, but it says so much about her).

The pool scene where Elijah holds Hayley.

The standoff between Klaus and Marcel when Marcel reveals he’s been to the plantation—scheming and silent communication galore, but they’re all smiles and friendliness to each other.

I think my absolute favorite moment for these eps has to be a small scene between Rebekah and Elijah. After Hayley and the baby are saved, Elijah is going to find Klaus, and Rebekah announces that she’s leaving. It’s such a little scene, and yet…

Rebekah has gone through so much change. In the last five years (to her) she has lost her home, lost Marcel, and then lost Stefan. She lost trust in Klaus with the truth that he killed their mother. Lost trust in her mother when she came back to life and tried to kill them all. And now she’s losing Elijah, one of the only solid things left in her long life. It’s just sad, and I feel so sad for her. The fact that Elijah cares for her but not enough to drop everything for her like he did for Klaus. The fact that they’re both tied to this brother of theirs who puts them low (but still there) on his list of important things but is still outraged if they put him any lower on their lists. The fact that Rebekah doesn’t need anyone’s permission to go yet she still seeks out Elijah’s, and when she gets it, that makes her feel worse somehow—she’s not wanted, and he doesn’t want to go with her. (He invites her to stay, naturally, but he kisses her cheek and gently tells her “you are free.” She’s not.)

So that’s my fav moment from 1x06; I’d say my fav moment in 1x05 is the harvest flashback. The visceral horror of it. That’s what I’m here for! The people you love will hurt you the most. The call is coming from inside the house! As Elijah says, this is about family.
