Horizon: Zero Dawn Real Life Map (Maps) (Real Filming Locations)

Here’s my work in progress real life map of the video game series of @playstation @guerrillagames #HorizonZeroDawn. This map includes custom made map icons that I’ve made using @adobe #AdobeCreativeCloud and includes all of the locations including the recent games which I’m yet to play. Instead of resembling the carefully researched ships of something like Master and Commander, the Revenge's deck is a wide, uncluttered stage that rarely moves unless it's caught in a storm. In a relationship-driven sitcom, there's no need to literally rock the boat. Storms exist purely for emotional punctuation, with weather and scenery acting as a kind of mood ring. So when Blackbeard hits rock bottom, his ship becomes a dark, roiling embodiment of inner torment. These emotive scenes are when OFMD's use of the Volume really stands out, suggesting a different philosophy from that of the shows and movies that use it as a catch-all replacement for location filming. In OFMD, it's one of many visual tools that bolsters the larger-than-life tone. For instance, during Lucius and Pete's reunion this season, the LED backdrops display a luminously sentimental peach-pink sunset. And on several occasions the show makes judicious use of a CGI moon, carefully placed above Stede and Blackbeard's heads during romantic moments. How big is the moon in Our Flag Means Death? As big and as close as it needs to be. A real moon just wouldn't work as well.

After complaining incessantly about The Volume (ie. LED backdrops) making Star Wars shows look ugly and fake, I've come to realize that it's best used in contexts where "looking fake" is a feature, not a bug.

While there are things to criticise mash for and those conversations are important to have some of what I read can be explained very easily by reminding yourself

Who used characters and plots to tell stories

Within a certain number of minutes

#mash #m*a*s*h #this isn't about anything specific #and there is also worth in taking and analysing mash as a whole #but sometimes you have to step back and remind yourself its a tv show #not in the 'its not real' way but in the 'it works like a tv show' way #I think the only specific thing I could use as an example rn is the criticisms I've seen of them not changing locations more often #and yeah the m is for mobile but do you know how insanely expensive it would be to film more bug out scenes?#and how insanely boring they would be to watch all the time #And when it comes to the tonal shift and its effect on the message that is a very good conversation to have with important criticisms #but I also saw some criticisms mostly in articles and books you know that boiled down #to why isn't this later episode exactly like an earlier episode :/ and I was like uhm because they already wrote that episode?#long story short: NUANCE #note: this post has been in my drafts for a while and I just wanted to free it

Anytime I think about AASOAF being adapted to some form of visual media I cry a little inside because I wish it was REAL. Anyway, I think I'd definitely like for the Port St. Croix scenes to be filmed in a place like Porthcurno! The cliffs are pretty much what I picture it to be like in my mind!

For Star Lake, it would have to be filmed somewhere on the Yucatan peninsula because the subterranean river and lake system is directly inspired by cenotes that can be found in that area. The mythology around cenotes plays a central role in what happened at Star Lake to make it what it is today so it would have to be filmed there!

For scenes in Ihama, Wadi Rum is the perfect location! Ihama is located on the other side of the butte lands of Venya's Belt so is more rocky than some other places in The Holtep Empire. Just picture little kid Axtapor and his grandma there WAAAAHHHHH!

And finally, Naren is directly inspired by Tahiti so Papenoo Beach is the ideal location! It's got black sand beaches just like Naren and those lovely lush green jungles. They don't call it Rameses Emerald for nothing!

realized that if they actually filmed any part of in the mouth of madness in new england i could maybe actually visit it, and i was really hoping that the covered bridge styles drives through would be somewhere within reasonable distance but unsurprisingly they filmed the hobbs end scenes in/near ontario. i did find out what covered bridge they used specifically though (west montrose covered bridge), and it's still extremely pretty. apparently it's ontario's last covered bridge and a few years ago there was money allocated to restore it

#idk if there's other filming locations id like to see besides this one but gosh id love to see that bridge #styles' driving sequence is one of my favorite parts of the movie i love the transition from the real world to the fairy world sm

great hader quote. have always appreciated how this show writes and most importantly FILMS violence. its always kind of mundane, this sort of everyday thing, sometimes shocking or disturbing or even breathless, but never ever cool or exciting for its own sake. lots of long takes, lots of still takes, just letting it unfold without visual judgement. which puts the impetus on the audience to judge it. hey i think this guy might be good at directing tv shows

i really like crimson peak by the way! i don’t enjoy horror, i sometimes get scared just by reading wikipedia summaries of horror movies, but i went to see it in cinemas (alone!) because i love del toro, so i was actually relieved that it turned out to not be a horror. i definitely found it really scary though

That is entirely fair, and I'm glad you like it!

I like some things that fall more clearly under the general Horror umbrella- Mama (2013) comes to mind, if we're focusing on Del Toro, and about half of Cabinet of Curiosities -but I, too, am more likely to see a Gothic than a straight horror movie.

I almost didn't see CPeak- I'm not usually aware of coming attractions unless they breach containment onto my Tumblr dash, because I don't go to the movies often and thus miss a lot of trailers. But some friends saw it and said, "no, you NEED this in your life," so...I went! Alone, just like you. I actually remember the theatre (AMC Times Square) because of its gorgeous old domed ceiling covered in murals.

I also remember leaving afterwards and feeling like I just got hit by a bus full of Seen(TM).

It was a good day.

You will not believe how much value is gained for a movie just by shooting on location. Yes I know some locations are not real and I’m not devaluing vfx blah blah blah but my god, if the characters are supposed to be a high school hallway please put them in a real high school hallway

#i saw sisu in theaters and the movie itself was super silly #but just because they were shooting on location for some shots it made the experience infinitely more enjoyable #my mom had the new shazam on the tv #and tell me why it looked like they blue screened a high school hallway behind rachel zegler #or if they didnt the way they filmed it made it look like it did #and like i know wakanda is not real i know. I know.#but find a better compositing method for the volume than creating insanely shallow focus #i would like to see the background please!!#film posting #robin rambles

What if they didn't put ads every 3 posts. Three posts between ads, literally. Not even counting the ad for Tumblr Live.

Also what if tumblr didn't know what city Im in. I do not want my location tracked or stored anywhere unless I give explicit ongoing permission, like with my GPS app that I allow to track me only when the app is open, and then it deletes the data (allegedly) when I stop giving permission.
