In lieu of Stuff Your Kindle day, can we talk about the issue of how the m/m genre of books, romance or not, is almost entirely dominated by women? Can we talk about how the most recognisable gay couples in media are written by women? Can we talk about how queer men can't even write about ourselves, how we are only allowed to exist when it's from the point of view of a straight woman sexualising us?

Can we talk about that? Or am I going to get called misogynistic for pointing out the disparity between who gets the writing deals, & who gets their books turned into movies, & whose shit gets popular versus whose doesn't? Can we talk about how m/m fiction is only allowed when it appeals to a cishet gaze, or is that too much for tumblr to take?

Can we also talk about how trans queer men are even more hated by publishing? Can we talk about how we get shit from both sides? Can we talk about how books about the experiences of being a queer man, written by queer men, never get the same recognition as books written by women on this subject (barring academia which has its own problems)?

not saying the holocaust wasn't bad. but i need people to understand that it wasn't the only genocide that happened in the same period of world history. not because i want you to pay less attention to holocaust but because i need you to ask why it's the only one we ever talk about. it wasn't the longest occured massacre of a marginalized group, it wasn't the most gruesome, it wasn't the one with the most casualties, it wasn't the first and it wasn't the last one. i need people to think about why we didn't pay much attention to all the other holocausts after WWII that happened simultaniously and were just as horrible. it says so much about media, the news we are fed, and that our empathy is BOUGHT by the same people that keep funding genocides all over the world.

Batman fic is fun because it's one of the handful of fandoms where it's gone through so many reboots while retaining the same characters that basically any interpretation is canon-compliant. Even if you go totally off the rails to complete a totally new universe, there is no practical difference between that and what the actual comics do with reboots.

Fundamentally, Batman is already a universe made of a lot of people tackling the same characters from a multitude of different viewpoints, and from this position, fanfiction becomes less of a newer phenomenon and more of merely a continuation of the conversation between authors that was already occuring, an expansion from merely those being paid from their work to anyone with a passion for the franchise. Watching this new Scott Pilgrim show almost drove me to reopen the book.

While I don't have a set schedule, the sort of "invisible" schedule has become the weekend. So usually, it's Saturday to Sunday (depending on your timezone), but for me, it's usually Saturday night to Sunday morning since I have a nasty habit of leaving the chapter last minute, writing 80% of it in one sitting on Saturday and then needing to edit it and post it too lmao.

So far, I have 1.6k of just raw dialogue, but a preview will be coming later today, so keep your eyes peeled for that because it'll be Dream's POV. Are we all ready for this reunion? I don't know, but I guess we'll find out. For now, my hope is tomorrow (24th to 25th, depending on time zones).

When I heard V.A.N for the first time this morning I was unaware of it being about a rogue A.I. and thought Poppy sounded kinda like GLaDOS from the Portal games. Now I watched the music video and they are wearing lab coats with the Aperture Science logo on them.
