Ratchet has no idea where this is going, but he does have something else to focus on as well, and that something is mending dents. His field accepts his presence and remains calm, silently assuring he will take care of the injury, as he always does.

"Mhh." He isn't certain why he tenses, but considering Optimus still moves nearer, which will make repairing easier, he continues to prioritize that. One hand still holding his arm, firm and steady, his other retrieves a small hammer-like device from his storage unit, specifically intended for sliding under or over metal and tapping tiny sections back into their correct shape. An odd sensation, but not particularly painful, beyond irritating the already present soreness of an area.

"Oh?" is the extent of his reply, waiting for him to elaborate while he works.

oh ...     optimus allows the medic to examine his dented wrist plating,  but he remains silent as to how the damage occurred.

optimus is gentle as he steps a bit closer,  closing the gap between them & returning the brush of the medic's field against his.     there's a touch of something bitter & a bit  apologetic  there,  but he allows it to be felt rather than trying to bundle it all back up,  compartmentalize it away for later rumination :   ratchet deserves nothing less than  his  honesty.

Rounded optics become fully visible at the garbled words, barely comprehensible. Optimus. His friend remains. Optimus needs him. Something has infiltrated him. He doesn't know what yet, but he will find out. New determination surfaces.

Ratchet is not one to let anyone go who needs him, no matter how it hurt, how much he has to endure, to rescue another.

Optics narrow again as the other retreats from him (despite the façade, what else could he consider it?). And 'open book'? Unlikely. He will have to analyze and learn without clearly threatening this invader, or he may never have the opportunity to remove it.

Again, he does not move when touched, although his audials angle back at the other's claims. "... I never considered Optimus to be holy," he corrects, but otherwise remains silent. His lack of interest in ranks had caused issues on more than one occasion among military, as Ratchet's respect and acknowledgement was always given to those he regarded as deserving of it. Spiritual titles were no exception.

Ratchet holds the gaze that is both familiar and foreign, and answers, "... I will call you by hwatever name you choose. A name is everyone's right to decide." Even an unwelcome virus.

"If you are so accepting of study, then hwat is your motivation? Why do you wish to infect and destroy?" Perhaps he will also learn hints of 'how,' should it answer.

trust  ratchet  to  always  be  truthful,  even when said truth would serve as a double—edged sword.     but then again,  even corrupted,  the prime would never be so foolish as to believe his medic to be  prey ... or otherwise incapable of defending himself.    no,  he is not so far gone that he's unaware of just how much  fight  ratchet has when faced with a challenge to what he believes is right.
