How the mythology of starseeds, indigo children, crystal children, rainbow children, etc. harms kids
Something I didn't talk about in my last post is how New Age is often harmful to young children, so I'm going to talk about it here.
Here's a quick rundown on terminology for anyone who doesn't already know:
Starseed: An alien soul incarnated in a human body, typically for the purpose of "raising the Earth's vibrational frequency" (read: convert people to New Age beliefs).
Indigo/Crystal/Rainbow Child: A child born with a spiritually advanced soul, whose life purpose is to bring the New Age into being.
If you do a quick websearch on any of these terms, you'll find that the alleged signs of being one of these overlaps with traits associated with autism and ADHD. Many websites will just straight-out say that these children are commonly mistaken for having autism or ADHD. Sometimes you'll find people who claim autism and ADHD don't actually exist at all, but were created by the conspiracy to control and suppress these kids.
What often happens is that New Age parents see their autistic and ADHD children displaying these "signs," and decide that their kids are one of these special souls. So rather than giving their children the help and support they actually need, they project and burden them with incredibly high expectations. We're talking about parents expecting their kids to be able to work miracles or have access to all of this incredibly advanced wisdom that they simply just don't.
Various people I've seen on this website who were raised by New Age parents have spoken about how this kind of thing messed them up. They basically have religious trauma from it. Deciding that your kid has special powers and a special purpose because they meet a very spurious criteria is not okay.
When I was a kid, I absolutely would have fit most definitions of a starseed. I believed in magic, fairies, aliens, and psychic powers. Sci-fi and fantasy was my jam. I loved to draw and play elaborate games of pretend. The idea of helping and healing people appealed to me majorly. And, well, I had undiagnosed autism and ADHD.
But you know what I didn't have?
The kind of special spiritual gifts and innate wisdom people associate with starseeds and the rest.
In fact, as far as I could tell, everyone around me seemed to be more psychically and spiritually gifted than me, for no reason I could ever work out. It was actually kind of traumatizing, because I felt like something was wrong with me.
So yeah, deciding a kid must be some special, extra-magical kind of soul because they have certain characteristics and interests is really not good. Parents who do this are essentially forcing their own egos onto their children, who will very likely end up traumatized from the whole ordeal.

How to HELP Children learn?
Tips for Successfully Teaching Children
Be gentle and respectful at all times. Equality is important even if there is an age and intelligence gap.
Create the right environment which is free from stress, pressure and fosters creativity, trust, curiosity and fun vibes. Keep the pace of learning comfortable for the child.
Cater to the specific learning style of the child and learn to observe their areas of interests and listen to what motivates them. Participating and self-expression is essential to keep the child engaged.
Try out a combination of learning methods to help the child understand, such as tactile, movement-based, visual and auditory. Always provide context for what is being taught and why we need to learn it from a larger perspective.
Stick to the basics but also be spontaneous with the curriculum. The right mood for the right subject is important. Take time to present information in an appealing manner that excites the child.
Be in the right mind space attitude and energy when you are going to teach the child. If you lack enthusiasm, learning will suffer.
Teach as per the individual’s grasping power and introduce new concepts only when the foundation is ready for them.
Keep it light and don’t overload or confuse children with unnecessary information. Make sure they have understood before moving forward.
Each individual has subjects that they are more drawn to versus others. Choice is a gift, hence we need to honor the choices of children and understand that each one is born with a unique purpose.

A volcano had erupted on Stefán Karl's birthday
Yesterday's post was about a translation and archival to a Facebook that Steinunn Ólína made on the occuasion, you can read it here!
In the post, she mentioned asking for an eruption for the occuasion from him and a few hours later a dormant volcano erupted in Iceland!
I have found an article detailing this information that I will translate and archive right here.
"Could you make a eruption on the occasion?"

Stefán Karl and Steinunn Ólína talked openly about the struggle with illness in their time. Photo credited to Valli from Vísir.
Earlier today, actress Steinunn Ólína Þorsteinsdóttir published a heartfelt post on her Facebook page where she remembers her husband, Stefán Karl Stefánsson, who died after a difficult battle with cancer in 2018. Stefán Karl would have turned 48 today.
Stefán Karl's battle with malignant bile duct cancer lasted for two years, the couple talked openly about the illness. Stefán Karl himself was a great fighter against bullying, since he founded, among other things, the organization Rainbow Children.
Stefán Karl was best known for his portrayal of the unlikable Robbie Rotten, who lived a good life within the walls of the children's story about Lazytown by Magnús Scheving, and he graduated from the Icelandic Drama School in 1999.
"Thank you, my Stebbi"
Together, Stefán Karl and Steinunn Ólína had two children, but before that she had two daughters. It is safe to say that the nation has cried with Steinunna Ólína at the death of Stefán Karl, who was a perennial source of joy. In the post she published this morning, she says:
Stefán Karl’s birthday is today 10.07, and he would have been 48 years old. There, Stebbi, Júlía Stefánsdóttir and Steini Stefansson are playing in Mexico, where Stefán chose to rest in the cradle of the Pacific Ocean. “If anyone asks where I am when I’m gone, just say I’m in Mexico!” We know you’re in Mexico, love, but could you make a eruption on the occasion? You are with us every day with joy, love and warmth!
It seems that Stefán Karl made Steinunn Ólína's wish come true, because a few hours later, as is now well known, a volcanic eruption began near Reykjanes. Subsequently, Steinunn Ólína published a new post on Facebook where she simply writes: "Thank you my Stebbi!"

Making Meditation Fun for Children
In today’s fast-paced world, children are often bombarded with stimuli from various sources, making it challenging for them to unwind and find a sense of calm. Introducing meditation to children can provide a valuable tool for relaxation, focus, and emotional well-being. The key, however, is to make meditation an enjoyable and engaging experience. In this blog, we’ll explore creative ways to make…

How to Empower young children
For progressive parents, teachers and adults
Let them know that adults don’t have all the answers
Encourage free thinking and originality.
Let their opinions be heard and known. Don’t agree or disagree, create a judgement-free space for them to express and explore their ideas.
Give them choices and let them make small-level decisions for themselves.
Explain the consequences of an action in a factual way, not based on your negative past experiences. There are multiple probabilities and the child may not have the same experience as you did. You can however let them know about your fears around an experience, but also let them know that their experience is personal to them and will yield its own unique outcomes.
Give them pointers and directions to explore a certain concept by themself. Be a mentor and encourage them to ask questions while keeping the answers open-ended, ones that lead to further introspection for the child. A good answer is one that leads to more questions and digging in deeper rather than putting a dead-end to the exploration process.
The more briefly you can say something, the more clearly you have understood a subject and the better you can explain it to the child.
Children are full of energy and trying to calm them down is a futile effort. They have kinetic energy that requires them to move around, have space to play, run and have fun in their body while growing up. Don’t restrict their free movement or try to control them, instead give them ample opportunity to express this energy through their limbs as this is an important aspect of their physical development. In the early ages, growing physically happens before mental development, and hence is a greater priority, always remember that.
Teach your kids how to ask for their needs and be respectful of how you listen to them when they are expressing a need to you. Some needs are essential while others are less urgent, teach them the difference between the two and assure them that their essential needs will never be compromised and they must be loud and vocal about them, no matter who they are around.
Kids don’t understand the moods and issues of the adults around them. Help them understand what to expect and where and why you do what you do so they aren’t clueless about what’s going on. Don’t be afraid to speak about your vulnerable feelings with them in a polite way to help them understand better.
Never use aggression to control your child, be it verbal or passive aggressive as well. Children are very sensitive and only respond positively to the language of love. Using fear tactics on them is the fastest way to dis-empower them as individuals and turn them into a punishment-fearing restricted child instead of an authentic, happy and liberated child.
Give up the convenience of a quick fix and adopt approaches that will actually help empower children around us. You don’t have to be hard on yourself or be fake, start by just understanding things and being open to new ideas.

Victims need help
Written on the 25th of October 2004
Victims of bullying often break down and can only regain themselves with outside help if the bullying has been prolonged and persistent. Research shows that initially, victims of bullying tend to overlook it.
Ragnar Ólafsson, who holds a master's degree in social psychology and research methods in psychology, gave a lecture on behalf of the research institute in nursing about victims' responses to bullying in schools and workplaces.
It comes into light that responses to bullying are similar and vary on the level of bullying. Ragnar says that initially, responses tend to be reactive, but if nothing happens, the responses become more passive, and with that, the distress increases.
He says this pattern applies to bullying both in schools and workplaces. Ragnar says that these research findings can be used to provide appropriate assistance to victims. He says it's important for those providing assistance to know at what stage the person affected by the bullying is, and research can help tailor treatments for bullying.
