Probably the biggest "suspend belief" part of these books is how much leeway a green 25-year-old agent has in the different ops. Sandford keeps the story moving until a lull near the end. You know what's coming but he makes you wait for it. Lots of action in this one. And Sandford has a big "what if" with the hacker group. You think the story is moving a certain way but Sandford uses today's headlines to take it out there. Who knows? Maybe that's what happened. All of Sandford's books can be read as stand-alones. This is another action-packed, fast-paced narrative from Sandford. You'll love the Peacemaker club. 🦇 Down a quiet backstreet in Kyoto exists a very special restaurant. Run by Koishi Kamogawa and her father Nagare, the Kamogawa Diner serves up deliciously extravagant meals. But that's not the main reason customers stop by. The father-daughter duo are 'food detectives'. Through ingenious investigations, they recreate dishes from a person’s treasured memories – dishes that may well hold the keys to their forgotten past and future happiness. The restaurant of lost recipes provides a link to vanished moments, creating a present full of possibility.

💜 This cozy mystery was an absolute delight. Its structure is similar to Before the Coffee Gets Cold, making it an easy read to escape into (perfect given the chilly weather lately). Every description of the delicious Japanese delicacies got my mouth watering (I know my fellow bookish bats are aware I adore experiencing other cultures through food, in and out of books). The story focuses more on empathy and human experiences than high-stakes, stressful mysteries, making it ideal as a palette cleanser between more intense reads.

🦇 While this was a comforting read, I do wish we learned more about the main cast of characters. Instead of focusing on small short stories/mysteries, I wish a singular mystery was the novel's through line, allowing us to focus more on the three main characters. Regardless, this story was a delicious, cozy treat!

🦇 Recommended for fans of Before the Coffee Gets Cold and other mouth-watering foodie cozy mysteries.

What would a group be willing to do to protect their version of paradise? Allie Reynolds writes about a group of surfers in her new book, The Swell. "Kenna travels to Australia hoping to convince her best friend Mikki to come back to the UK. Mikki has fallen in with a group of surfers that have claimed a remote beach as their own. Kenna discovers that the Tribe has secrets...and that there are some suspicious deaths. She hopes that she doesn't become one of them" This is a story full of unlikable characters. Even Kenna makes you cringe at times. The story did drag a bit about halfway. There are a lot of wild team-building activities (Just ignore the jellyfish - it doesn't sting much. We haven't seen many sharks) There are some interesting dynamics in the group. The ending was unexpected. I was hoping for a little more resolution.
