“are you sure you don’t want to go somewhere more fancy?” soobin asked as we got into his car. you looked over to him as you buckled your seatbelt.

“you took me to rosello’s for our first date, let’s calm it down for now.”

“we can still go if you want to! i don’t mind,” he replied. you shook your head, smiling. he shrugged, then stole a quick kiss before starting the car.

you gasped and dramatically put a hand to your heart, causing him to chuckle.

when thinking of where to go for your fourth date in a row, the two of you decided that you wanted to try the new diner that just opened.

the sun was still high in the sky as you walked into the dinner. the two of you chose a table near the back wall and waited.

you took a good look around the diner. it had a forest green and white color scheme. the employees had pale yellow uniforms on. it didn’t look how you expected it to. you were expecting checkered floors and bright red and neon lights. it had none of that, besides the occasional neon light. it felt very relaxing in here.

a waitress came up to your table and asked for your orders. you both decided to get a simple burger and fries.

when the food came, you both dug in. eager to see how the new food tasted.

“thoughts?” you asked soobin. he thought for a moment. “the fries were good but the burger was just okay.”

“yeah…” you trailed off, “i’ve had better burgers.”

soobin stole a fry off your plate, as he ate all of his. you gasped and smacked his hand away. “get your own fries!”

he stole two more and put them in his mouth like a walrus.

“you’re so cute,” you said, pulling out your phone and taking a picture.

“hey!” he said. you laughed at him, popping a fry in your mouth. “that’s going on twitter!”

“i have an image to uphold!!” he playfully exclaimed. “and now everyone will see how cute you are,” you replied, shrugging.

he leaned forward a little, a goofy smile on his face. “no, that’s only for you.”

“i see the smooth talker is back,” you grinned. he laughed, “only for you.”

something to the right of you caught his eye and he leaned even more forward to get a better look.

“what is it?” you asked.

his eyebrows knitted together. “is that… is that your two friends over there?” he subtly pointed to a booth with two people in ridiculous disguises.

you looked over and it was indeed your friends. yunjin and hueningkai to be exact. they were wearing over the top hats and fake mustaches with long coats. when they saw you noticing them, they scurried to the wall of the booth out of sight, landing on top of each other as they were on the same side.

you turned back to soobin who was already looking at you. you gave him an ‘are you thinking what i’m thinking’ look. he understood perfectly.

soobin put the money for your meal on the table along with a generous tip and you both made your way over to the booth. you and soobin slid against the other side and waited for yunjin and hueningkai to turn around.

“you think they saw us?” kai asked yunjin as he adjusted his fake mustache.

“you think they saw us?” you mocked and they jumped, yunjin let out a small gasp. they turned slowly to you with guilt.

“y/n… soobin… what a coincidence that we’re seeing you here! yunjin and i were just grabbing some food at this new diner!” kai tried to play off as they both quickly took their disguises off and hid them under the table.

“what a coincidence indeed!” soobin echoed, turning to you. you nodded in agreement. “dare i say, it was planned even!”

yunjin gave a nervous laugh. you decided to take a look at their table to see that it was completely empty. not even a drink was on it.

you stared daggers at them until hueningkai finally spilled. “okay! it was all yunjin’s idea! she looked at your location and said we should spy on your date!” yunjin glared at kai and he held his hands up.

“you’re about to get your location services revoked,” you told yunjin playfully. yeonjun and jake then slid into the booth also, yeonjun next to kai and jake next to you.

“you were all here?” soobin asked incredulously. you laughed at how ridiculous your friends are and the whole table couldn’t help but join in.

“now that we’re all here…” you smiled mischievously, “let’s talk about those plans together.”

after talking through activities to do together, them hesitantly letting soobin join, you and soobin were once again alone on your date. you decided since it was still a bright day out that you would go on a little walk around town.

you were walking hand and hand down the sidewalk, swinging your arms a little between you. soobin suddenly twirled you, causing you to giggle, and then brought his lips to your briefly.

“so…” soobin trailed off.

“so…” you echoed.

“so… i was wondering…” he stopped and sat you on a park bench near a fountain. there were kids running around and playing in the water.

“wondering…?” you continued. he gave you a sheepish smile as he absentmindedly swirled circles with his thumb on your hand.

“i was wondering if you’d like to be my girlfriend? officially?” he breathed. you smiled at him, giggling a little. “hm… i don’t know i have sooo many people lined up.”

he rolled his eyes playfully at you, grinning. “i’d love to be your girlfriend,” you replied.

the two of you kissed and it felt like the first time right in front of your dorm room. your heartbeat was racing and there were tingles all over your body. you can’t believe you were officially soobin’s girlfriend. his actual girlfriend.

“excuse me,” you heard a small voice say. the two of you quickly broke away as you came face to face with a little boy.

“hi!” you replied, cheeks heated. the boy tilted his head. “are you two married?”

before you could say anything, soobin quickly replied. “yes, we are actually!” the boy looked down to your intertwined fingers. “i don’t see a ring.”

soobin scratched the back of his head. “well… that’s actually because it fell in that fountain over there.” he pointed to the fountain behind the boy. “and we’re waiting for maintenance to come and retrieve it for us!”

the boy thought for a moment. “i’ll get it!” he yelled and ran off towards the fountain. soobin quickly dragged you off the park bench and ran back the way to the diner with you behind him.

you couldn’t contain your laughter as the two of you stopped a good distance away from the park. “what was that?”

soobin laughed, “i don’t even know to be honest.” he took you in his arms and spun you as you squealed. “what has gotten in to you today!”

“oh, wow!” you heard a foreign voice say. soobin stopped his spinning and the two of you turned behind you to look at who was speaking.

sakura stood before you, her eyebrows raised slightly and a closed lipped smile. you detached yourself from soobin and smoothed out your clothes. he took your hand as he looked at her, an expression on his face that you couldn’t quite read.

you haven’t met any of his friends yet, he said he wanted to keep you to himself for as long as possible. you sure as hell were shocked to be meeting sakura a small distance from the diner. taking a look around your surroundings, you find that you’re in front of a luxurious looking spa.

sakura looked to soobin, “long time no see stranger! where have you been?” she then smiled widely. something about it made you nervous. “around,” soobin replied. you could feel the tension between the two of them and it was starting to feel uncomfortable.

sakura’s gaze shifted to you. “and who’s this?” you knew that sakura knew who you were. she invited you to her party for crying out loud! what was her end goal with all of this? to get under your skin somehow? if so, why?

you held your free hand out. “y/n.” she looked down at it, her smiled faltered ever so slightly. instead of shaking your hand, she turned back to soobin. you awkwardly put your free hand back at your side.

“you two seem close! are you dating?” soobin’s hand tightened against yours. “yeah,” he said in a monotone voice. you felt as if there was some sort of silent conversation happening between the two of them as they stared at each other.

“we have places to be sakura,” soobin then said as he began to walk, passing sakura. you turned and waved, “nice meeting you!”

the walk back to the diner and the car ride back to your dorm was silent. soobin’s hands gripped the wheel so tightly his knuckles were white.

“what just happened back there?” you asked. soobin shook his head. “it’s nothing.”

you both got out and went up the elevator to your dorm. when you got in front of your door you turn and looked at him, your eyebrows furrowed in confusion as you took his hands.

“are you sure it’s nothing?” you asked. he nodded once again.

“i’m sorry,” he said, and leaned down to peck your lips. “it really is nothing…” he placed a kiss on your right cheek. “she just caught me off guard for a moment.” he placed another kiss on your left cheek. you giggled as he did.

“okay…” you still weren’t completely convinced, but you’ll wait until he is ready to tell you.

he smiled down at you. “goodbye my beautiful y/n. my beautiful girlfriend.” your cheeks heated up as he pressed one last kiss to your lips.

he turned to walk away but you grabbed his hand and pulled him back. you cupped his cheeks and gave him another kiss on the lips.

“goodbye my beautiful soobin. my beautiful boyfriend.” he smiled widely, his dimples popping out.

Trey: It's pretty fascinating how all these anecdotes that I grew up with are displayed on all these paintings.

Trey: Just as I'd expect from an art museum that's reaching it's 100th year.

Trey: Oh hey, this painting… It has some card soldiers on it. Heh, I feel like I can understand these guys a little bit.

???: Oh, right, all you Heartslabyul guys do the same kind of thing, don't you?

Leona: What's even the point of painting the roses a different color? As someone who cares not an ounce about flowers, I don't get it at all.

Trey: Hey now, Leona, don't say that. It's not done for any specific reason, it's just one of the laws of our dorm.

Trey: Also, I don't really think the card soldiers changed the colors of the roses just for a change of scenery, though.

Trey: They say that the Queen they served loved red roses. They were probably just trying to please her, right?

Trey: But still… painting the roses, huh. I remember there was a bit of trouble with that when I first enrolled here.

Leona: Oho? What kind of trouble could the super pacifist Trey Clover possibly cause?

Trey: It wasn't any big deal. When we were first years, Cater and I were responsible for painting the roses, you see…

Trey: And we mistakenly painted some roses white when they were supposed to be red. That's really it.

Trey: Well, to be fair, the mistake wasn't really our fault, but the fault of our upperclassmen who told us the wrong thing.

Trey: But when the mistake was discovered and the Housewarden at the time asked who caused it… Those upperclassmen placed the blame squarely on our shoulders.

Trey: As punishment, Cater and I were made to leave the dorm for a whole day. That really grinded my gears.

Leona: You say that, but you got some stupid grin on your face. You don't look too angry about it.

Trey: Well, yeah… That'd be because Cater and I put together a plan to get them back.

Leona: So you two schemed something up, huh. You might look gentle and mild-mannered, but I guess there's a reason the Dark Mirror called you.

Trey: We didn't do anything that crazy. I just changed the flavor of those upperclassmen's cake to something a little more invigorating at the next dorm party.

Trey: See, it wasn't anything more than just a silly kid's prank, right? …Well, I had a bit of a hard time after that, though.

Trey: A HARD TIME CONCEALING MY LAUGHTER AS THOSE UPPERCLASSMEN CRIED ABOUT HOW SPICY IT WAS, THAT IS.

Leona: Hahah, how terrifying.

Leona: Well, Cater is one thing… But I see that even someone like you, who's stuck always pacifying that hot-headed Riddle, had an incident like that.

Trey: I mean, isn't that how all the new first years here are like? They're all mischief-makers and rambunctious.

Trey: Even our current first years are way too excitable and are always causing problems, so I sure wasn't an exception.

Trey: Eventually, they'll get used to this school and their dorm, get underclassmen of their own, and even find rivals in other dormitories…

Trey: And step by step, they'll mature into good card soldiers. At least, our Heartslabyul students will.

Trey: The princess herself isn't drawn, but I'm sure she's in the bed that these ladies are peering into.

Trey: But is this actually the scene where they are gifting their presents…? It just looks to me like they're chattering away aimlessly…

Leona: Maybe it's just as you say? They look to me like a bunch of carefree types.

Trey: I'd refute that, but… Well, it's hard to know what actually is true in the stories passed down, I guess.

Trey: Speaking of birthday celebrations and fairies…

Trey: Have you ever heard of the saying that "fairies are born from the laughter of children," Leona?

Leona: Sounds like a tall tale for kids. Never heard of that in my country.

Trey: It's actually a pretty popular myth in the Queendom of Roses.

Trey: Back home, whenever a child is born, that family would bake cakes and gift them to everyone they knew.

Trey: The cupcakes made then are called "fairy cakes," as a nod to that tale.

Leona: Fairy cakes, huh. I can taste the sickly-sweet flavor on my tongue just from the name alone.

Trey: Hahaha… Shoulda known you of all people wouldn't say there was a bit of romanticism in that.

Trey: But that takes me back. I remember when my sister was born, I helped my parents bake a cake, too.

Trey: I was only 4 years old, and didn't really know how to make anything yet, but I did what I could to help.

Trey: We set out the finished cake on a table in our yard, and ate it with family and our neighbors…

Trey: That cake we ate then under the blue sky tasted even better than any other cake I'd ever had.

Trey: And on top of that, all the adults were praising me, saying how "amazing" and "well done" my cake was…

Leona: Can't think there'd be any adult who'd tell a 4-year-old that the cake they made was terrible, though.

Trey: Yeah, absolutely. In fact, when I went back and looked at the pictures of the cake I made back then, it was actually pretty terrible.

Trey: But I took those compliments to heart.

Trey: Because yeah, after that day, I would join them in the kitchen to help bake cakes.

Trey: But truthfully, I would make a mess of the flour just trying to make one layer of the sponge for the cakes, or snag a taste of a few of the cut fruits here and there...

Trey: I'm sure I was a huge bother for my parents, who were trying to work.

Leona: How adorable. You got all excited just from a little flattery. Sounds completely different than the way you are now.

Trey: Please, kids are all like that. Especially me, I was the type that would even climb trees just from the slightest dare.

Trey: I'm really not any different now, either. I'm completely different from you, Leona. I'm just a plain and simple guy.

Leona: Seems like this is a painting of when the Sorcerer of the Sands got a hold of the magic lamp.

Trey: So, this is the legendary magic lamp, hm. It's a lot smaller than I was expecting… It looks like a teapot made for only one person.

Leona: You know… That kind of response really only shows how shallow your thoughts are. Is that all that comes to mind when you look at a painting showing a scene from that very famous tale?

Leona: This was the lamp that he went through so much and finally got his hands on. Even someone like him, who embodied the spirit of deliberation, might be drowning in absolute elation in this very moment―

Leona: …Or whatever. Anyway, you should read more from this painting than just the size of the lamp, is all.

Trey: Ahaha… I'm just no good at interpreting the actual story behind the art, just from looking at the painting.

Trey: But, based on what you just said, it makes it sound like even someone as great as him, who's left his mark on history, has a human side, huh.

Leona: Even the greats were just people… Although from I remember, he wasn't a human in the end, but a genie.

Trey: That's right, he became a genie in order to overcome the limitation and weakness of a human body. He certainly dreamed big.

Trey: Overcoming weaknesses, huh… If only I could have done that, just as the Sorcerer of the Sands did.

Leona: Huh? Why're you just gazing off into the distance all a sudden?

Trey: Oh, I was just thinking back to how I've recently been running myself ragged trying to overcome this one food I dislike.

Leona: If you don't like it, then just don't eat it. Is it really anything to really overcome?

Trey: Of course it is. Like see, you know how all of the sandwiches and meat dishes in the cafeteria come already covered in that one condiment?

Trey: …I'm talking about mustard. It's tedious for both me and the chef when I have to ask each time for them to remove it, you know?

Trey: Sure, there's a lot of different ways to hide the taste, but I feel it's rude to the chef to change the flavor of something they so painstakingly made.

Trey: That's why I tried so many different ways to overcome my dislike of it, hoping that it would solve everything.

Trey: Every time I made my own dinner in my dorm, I'd add mustard to every dish…

Trey: For about one week or so, I made sure to eat at least one dish each day with mustard in it.

Trey: IN THE END, I EVEN TRIED PUTTING IT IN THE CAKE.

Leona: Well, you sure created a strange, new cake there. So, was it even edible?

Trey: I didn't eat it, so I don't know. My dormmates stopped me, so I wasn't able to actually add it to the cake.

Trey: And so, when they stopped me there, I finally came to a realization.

Trey: If I still can't eat it after all this effort, I should just give up. It isn't something that's going to have a huge impact on my life, after all.

Leona: Hah, took you a while.

Trey: Hahaha… I thought so too.

Trey: Seems like I'm the type where once I start something, I get a little wrapped up in it… This incident really got me reflecting on that habit.

Trey: But hey, thanks to all of that, I can at least eat mustard if it's just there for a bit of flavoring.

Leona: Well, good for you, then. All that continuous mustard eating turned out to be not completely pointless.

Leona: Anyway… All that talk made me thirsty. I'm takin' a break from all this. Bye.

Trey: Okay, see you. …Never thought I'd see the day that Leona would even hold a conversation with me like this. I wonder if it'll rain candy tomorrow or something.

Trey: Alright, next I think I'll go check out one of the paintings of the Great Seven I haven't seen yet… Ooh wait, this one―

Trey: Whenever I see this painting, I always think of "that guy." He's got the same kind of hard-to-read expression on his face.

Trey: I remember back in the day where I'd play along with his pranks and we'd cause a little bit of mischief for people who asked us for directions on the street.

Hello! :D I know it’s a silly question..but i was playing sims(as one does) and I wondered if you had any hcs of the paladins interior style? Like what colors (not only their signature I guess)and type of furniture? What type of home/apartment?I’d appreciate the help! Have a nice day!

okay absolutely have not had mental capability for like anything creative but I’ve also started a job in real estate so interior design make me go brrrrrrrr lately-

Shiro I feel like is either really plain and like necessities only or really homely. Like he either has the most basic cheap couches and tables and chairs and like, the plain white plates you can by at Walmart for like 10 bucks (you know the ones) and all the walls are just whatever color the previous owners/renters had them as so he has a random light pink room, a green room, etc. OR OR OR you walk in and get smacked in the face by comfort, like he has knick knacks and pictures and random antiques littering every surface, he has a china cabinet with the fancy dishes, he has a cabinet dedicated to coffee mugs and like only two of them match cause the rest of that set broke ages ago, all the other Paladins have their own designated mug, like it’s never specified but like, you KNOW the teal one with the cow that god knows where came from is Kieths, and that’s just how it works. I don’t think he has a specific color pallet bc it’d depend on like what the house looks like, and it’s either minimalistic or the vibe of the house.

Kieth has an apartment, his bed is on the floor, the only reason he has a couch is because Lance and Hunk just showed up with it one day and left it there. His cabinets are boxed Mac and cheese and canned beans, he uses paper plates/bowls and plastic cups/silverware, and there’s only like two pictures in the whole place, one of him and the other Paladins (and Allura and Coran) and one of him, his mom, and Kosmo. He’s not much of a stay in one place type so he doesn’t have a lot BUT if he were to decide to settle and make a home it’d have a garage, a huge backyard, and enough space for any and all of the Paladins to visit, and let’s face it, Lance probs did most of the decorating, as long as Keith has a place to sleep he doesn’t really care much what it looks like.

Lance is Aesthetic™️ and you can’t change my mind. He’s full on redecorating his house for every single holiday, his attic is a maze of shit only he knows how to navigate. His kitchen is probs black and white with a pretty accent color and his dishes all match the kitchen color scheme, like the fancy ones with the swooshy designs, ya know? So. Many. Throw pillows. Lol. Has pictures of his family and the paladins everywhere, along with various pieces of art. Walking in is like stepping in a magazine but at the same time feels so comforting.

Hunk plants everywhere. I don’t know how to explain it, but he’s a total plant dad. His kitchen is immaculate, the kind of place you love to hang out in, also has mismatched mugs bc he likes to collect them from places he’s gone and it’s a go to gift for him. I think he has a bunch of books on everything from How To guides to the entire Riordanverse. Tools scattered everywhere and various projects littering almost every surface. Has a blanket his grandmother knitted him draped over his couch. Random Voltron merch everywhere bc he can’t help himself when he sees it.

Pidge is either a clean freak with a perfectly put together house (as long as you don’t open those drawers) or it’s a fuckin mess and a half with a walking trail from one room to the next but otherwise there’s no way in hell. Also has projects literally everywhere, collections of random space tech, we’re not gonna question it. Probs a fairly monotonous place, lots of whites and greys, has an entire bookshelf for family pictures and sentimental things but aside from that, it’s the house of a scientist. Just Pretend (BEOMGYU) CH4 - The Group Project

Prom went way better than I thought it would. Don't get me wrong, I was stoked to be going with Beomgyu. But knowing that the whole time, he was doing me a 'favor'? I thought it would be super awkward. Especially when I realized that neither of us had tickets to the dance, I thought I blew it right then. But I didn't.

It's harder now. It was easy to have a crush on him when I figured that was all it would be, and maybe that's the same. However, now I know so much more about him. And I feel like there's a connection between us, like he's not as unreachable as he used to seem to me.

And when I said that I might understand him, he said maybe!!! Maybe! And that he had a good time! But... that doesn't mean that it'll mean something after that. He could've just been responding.

Despite that, I don't want to think that way. As I walk into the classroom and sit at my desk, I find myself getting excited for class. I grab my notebook and pencil case, thinking what my color scheme should be for today's notes. Well, it's raining today, maybe blues? I grab a dark blue pen and match it with a light blue highlighter. And maybe... a bright red! Red like the vibrantly colored umbrellas and raincoats. I title my page and add the date. Mesmerized by the notebook in front of me, I'm pulled out of my trance the second a certain someone walks in.

It's Beomgyu. And he looks perfect. He always does to me. His long hair is fluffed up as he saunters into the room. What do I do? Should I wave, or is that too much? Should I pretend I don't see him? Is that rude??

He looks over and meets my eyes. He brightly grins and waves. My heart skips a beat, eyes widening. I give a short wave back and stare down at the paper facing me.

Why do you have to be so awkward, Y/N! You're losing your chance!

When the bell rings, I stroll over to his desk. I hesitate, but we're friends now, right?

"Hey" I greet.

"Hi" he grins, "how was your weekend?"

"Mine was good! What about you?"

He starts, "Mine was-"

"How's the new couple doing?" Yeonjun says a bit too loudly.

But it's fine, because most of the class had already left, right?

...Wrong.

I turned in horror as the rest of our classmates stared from the door. I guess I took for granted how small our class was. They all were much more invested than I feel they should be.

"YOU TWO ARE DATING?!" Someone yelled.

"Um, uh.." Beomgyu stutters.

Yeonjun interjects, "Yeah, they went to prom together. Did none of you know that?"

As he's talking, he turns to us. His face gets confused as he whispers, "What's wrong? Are you two trying to keep it low key or something?"

I grimace as Beomgyu finally answers the other students, "Um, yes. This is my uh, girlfriend, Y/N" The students that remain in the class seemed shocked, but most of them fled the classroom quickly.

Once they'd all left, Yeonjun asks, "What's up with you guys?"

"We aren't actually dating," I answer, "Beomgyu was just pretending to be my prom date, 'cause my mom wanted me to go, and.. yeah"

"Ah, I'm sorry.." Yeonjun apologizes, "you're a super bad liar though, Beomgyu"

He laughs as Beomgyu glares at him, I look down at the ground in guilt, "I'm really sorry Beomgyu. You're in this mess because of me. I'll help you fix it"

"Oh, It's not your fault! It's his," he glares at Yeonjun, "besides, I don't mind. We're friends, right?"

I nod. Friends...

He puts his arm around my shoulders and grins, "C'mon, girlfriend, we gotta get to our next class!"

I, however, am a fantastic liar. Because as we laugh together about how "we're just friends", my heart tears itself apart.

Rain pours from the sky, dripping down the window panes and onto pedestrians passing. A selection of patterned umbrellas shower the streets. I watch from the table on the second floor as people walk past.

It was our second class of the day now, history. And I'm feeling even more tired than this morning when I woke. I can't seem to focus, my mind cringing at the former scene and how my peers now know of my crush on Beomgyu, in a way. And yet, he still doesn't.

"-and you'll be choosing your own groups for the project"

What did the teacher say?? Choosing groups? This is the worst part of my classes. If I could just do the project on my own, that'd be easier. Now, I have to awkwardly glance at acquaintances and hope that someone partners up with me. If not, we'll have to do the whole "everyone without a partner raise your hand!" And I've had just about enough attention from my classmates today.

(BEOMGYU POV)

I turn to my friends, "should we all group up together?"

They aren't listening, they're talking about something else. Without me. It might be nice to work with someone else for a change, instead of having to nag them to do the work and feel like such an uncool friend.

"Oh! You all weren't in our first period, were you? Everyone knows about Beomgyu's girlfriend now, it was hilarious" Yeonjun laughs.

Huening Kai just gives him a blank stare, "Beomgyu has a girlfriend?"

Yeonjun stops, "yeah, they went to prom together? Y/N?"

Huening gasps, "YOU AND Y/N ARE DATING?!"

"It's not-" I begin.

"Shouldn't you work with her then?" Soobin questions.

"Yeah, yeah! You can get closer with your girlfriend" Yeonjun teases.

It feels like they're trying to leave me out again, like they dont want me in their group. I attempt to join back in, "but, aren't we always a group?"

"Well, yeah, but the groups can only have four people, so it just makes sense for you to work with her" Taehyun reasons.

Before I know it, they've pushed me in front of Y/N. And now we've made eye contact, and I'm making a fool out of myself in front of a pretty girl.

"H-hi"

"Hey" she says.

"Can uh, can we work together?"

"Sure!" She replies.

The class settles as everyone sits down with their group. However, the teacher notices our group of two and questions, "what's going on here? I said groups of four"

"W-well sir, we are going to work as a group of two" I stutter.

"It's gonna be a lot more work as just a pair, but if that's what you want"

I gulp as I turn to look at Y/N. She's turned away from me, staring out the window. I might be wrong, but I can't help but notice a faint blush on her face.

Wheeler/Byers Wardrobe Analysis

Look how uncomfy Jonathan is in Nancy’s pink and blue room. Jonathan wears a lot of browns, some blues, some greens. But putting him in black here really emphasizes how much he does not belong by upping the contrast while Nancy completely blends into her bed.

Here they are the next day (sorry to that this Jonathan pic is so unflattering; they were all really dark). Jonathan is wearing the same outfit as the day before (because he slept at Nancy’s house). Nancy is in a new outfit. She’s wearing purple, the blend of her usual pink and blue. I've talked about the blue and pink meaning different things. They can be two separate elements (either conflicting external influences or two sides to Nancy herself), and when she wears purple, it's a sign that these are merging. I also talked pretty extensively about the blue and pink in part two of my season 1 analysis where I discussed the it's-a-boy/it's-a-girl colors being used to show societal pressures to become part of the expected nuclear family (and in the words of Nancy Wheeler, "screw that").

In the last episode, Nancy was wearing a darker outfit but in the same usual dual-natured color palette (red and blue) and she and Jonathan got in a fight caused by their expectations and perceptions of one another. Now, she's still wearing darkened clothes, but purple. This feels like an indicator that she's still feeling weighed down, guilty, sad (dark colors) but that she's truly beginning to figure herself out (purple).

I've already discussed Jonathan's outfit because he hasn't changed, but the choice to keep him in this outfit rather than having him return home and put on something else is just an added emphasis to where his priorities are. He doesn't care how he looks. He's only thinking about Will.

And you know who else is outfit repeating in this scene?

King Steve. He last wore this shirt to the party where he and Nancy slept together. I think this pretty heavily indicates where Steve’s mind is during this fight. He’s thinking about Nancy. He’s jealous of Jonathan for taking Nancy.

He’s also in his full blue palette while Tommy and Carol are in blue, red, white, and yellow. I found this curious because they’ve reflected his blue palette pretty well up until this point. You’d think that as he begins to realize how awful they are, HE is the one who would start dressing differently. But instead THEY do, despite the fact that they haven’t altered their behavior. Because Tommy and Carol are minor characters whose POVs we never explore, the way they dress can definitely be interpreted as the way Steve perceives them rather than the way they are intentionally presenting. Here their outfits visually demonstrate this new divide between Steve and his friends.

Added bonus for the fact that Steve takes his jacket off to clean the graffiti, visually reflecting the last time he felt closest to Nancy.

All three of these characters spend the remainder of the season (minus the epilogue) in these outfits.

When you look at them all together, it's actually kind of aesthetically pleasing. Nancy's outfit pairs with Jonathan's SIGNIFICANTLY more than anything she wore earlier in the season, but crop Jonathan out and she fits with Steve too. So in contrast to earlier Nancy/Steve looks...

they still match, but they have both begun to behave more authentically. This is a huge signifier that they aren't really done with one another yet. They spent the season faking their way through their relationship and now is the start of them trying it for real. As themselves. But now Jonathan is in the mix, too (and literally between them).

Karen is wearing a darker variation of her usual color palette. Her light blues and pinks are now teal and maroon. She's dressed Holly to match, as usual. Even Ted fits the darker color scheme here. This general shift for the Wheelers demonstrates that they are feeling the weight of the tragedy in Hawkins. But they are still putting up their usual polite, united front.

Mike is about to spend the remainder of the season in this look. I think the most notable thing about it is that there's no blue. This is the first time we've seen him without it. Blue is Mike's color and in this particular scene, Mike thinks Will is dead. It doesn't seem like a stretch to say that in the aftermath of this loss, Mike doesn't feel like himself. He puts on a jacket for a lot of the scenes following this (which does have blue detailing. It's also the jacket he wore to Will's funeral). This outfit is extremely green, especially when the jacket is buttoned up. He's wearing green pants and his shoes have green detailing (sorry for the lack of photo evidence).

If you look at this through the lens of the blue/yellow color theory, this could represent that Mike's being heavily influenced by his friendship with Will. But I don't know how early that went into play, so all I can say is the darkened tones show the same thing I said about the rest of his family. His bright playful colors aren't here anymore and the stakes have escalated. And the lack of blue shows an absence of self.

Last note about this look: can I just say how positively feral it makes me that Will's hospital gown matches this shirt?

Down to the ring neck. Out of curiosity, I wanted to see other characters in the hospital to see if they were all in this same hospital gown. We see Will in a hospital gown in season 2, but he’s at Hawkins lab, not the hospital. So here’s (I’m so sorry) Max.

It’s been a few years, Max and Will are different sizes. Will’s probably wearing a kid's hospital gown and Max is probably wearing an adult sized one. So them not looking the same isn’t improbable. But Max’s scene as a whole is so blue (the wardrobe, the lighting). The color coding of this scene is so, so sad. So the blue detailing on the hospital gown fits the tone. The teal/yellow/brown of Will's hospital gown is happier but it also matches nothing but Mike. Which...

The lighting, costuming, and general atmosphere of this reunion is much happier. The fact that Wil and Mike match despite there being a lot of colors here tells me that these two are closer than the others, or at the very least, that Will is closest to Mike because he is the person his costuming reflects.

This is super long, so I'm not going to tag on the Christmas outfits. I'll probably make a separate post.

"Chill Time"

Summary: You and Tetchou hang out on a day that he isn't working.

A/N: Changed the fic info setup thing again + request requirements (no more emojis :^ ). I've been daydreaming about Tetchou for a few days now (as I believe I've mentioned). This is purely self-indulgent. This is also short because... why not. Also I will start the Ranpo fic I promised no later than tomorrow.

"Tetchou Suehiro!" You said loudly, tapping your foot while frowning. You heard footsteps approaching and turned around expectantly. Tetchou stood behind you with a confused yet wary expression on his face; you never use his full name.

"Yes, dear?" He asked. You frowned. "Didn't I ask you to do the dishes yesterday? You mean to say that they've been sitting in the sink all night?"

His eyes widened slightly in understanding of the situation. "Oh- yes, you did. I received a call from Jouno and forgot to—"

"Nope, nuh-uh-uh! Just apologize and do them." You cut across his explanation. His mouth curled into a small bashful smile, then gave a mock solute. "Sorry, boss. You got it." You couldn't help but smile at the nickname.

"I have some errands to run, mostly just going to grab groceries. I'll be back in about an hour." You sighed. Tetchou gave a "Mhm," and you hurried out the door.

"I'm back!" You called out from the front door, kicking off your shoes. Tetchou glanced over from the kitchen, where...

"Are you... cooking?" You asked dubiously, well aware of his odd dietary preferences.

"Welcome back. And yes, I am. I thought I'd try to do something nice for you since I don't get usually get to because of work." He explained. He must have seen your less than excited expression, which caused him to chuckle.

"Don't worry, I'm making something a little different." He said, then pointed at the two bags that you were still holding in your hands. "What'd you get?" He asked, walking over and taking the bags from you. He made his way to the counter and set the bags down, starting to remove the items you'd bought.

"Oh, just some meal stuff. Vegetables, fruits, all that." You said, moving to his side to help empty the bags. "Wait- shouldn't you be making sure the food doesn't burn?" You asked, remembering the food on the stove.

"Don't worry." Tetchou said. "I'll take it off the stove when we've finished putting this stuff away."

"I hope dinner wasn't too bad." Tetchou commented, curled up behind you on the couch. Surprisingly, it wasn't. Luckily for you, he chose to stray from his usual same-color schemed diet. "It was really good." You answered, snuggling closer to him.

He smiled and wrapped his arms around you. "I'm glad." He said, shifting closer to you and leaving a trail of kisses down the back of your neck. You giggled and flipped over, kissing him on the lips in return.

The two of you remained locked together by each other's lips for a minute before finally separating. You nuzzled your head into his shoulder, smiling. He laughed and wrapped his arms tighter around you, then his face settled into a smile.

"Tetchou."

"Hm? Yes?"

"If your phone goes off right now, I will—"

"Eh- turning it off!"

The Last Boy Scout is a wild, unwieldy, and immensely entertaining buddy-cop action flick cut from the same cloth as Lethal Weapon, not much of a surprise given that Shane Black wrote both movies. It's a movie that opens with an over-the-top song that would make for a legitimately good intro to an NFL broadcast, followed by a prologue of a football player (played by Billy Blanks in a cameo) shooting three members of the opposing team on the field before killing himself. The plot of the film is one that has only become sadly relevant in the years since 1991, especially as sports betting has been legalized and normalized as just a regular part of the professional sports landscape. It's got Bruce Willis at the height of his glory post-Die Hard playing a salty private eye, a young Damon Wayans in a role that, while more dramatic than anything on In Living Color, still supplies a lot of funny moments in his interactions with Willis, and director Tony Scott delivering a ton of exciting, spectacular action scenes. It's a shallow film that's mostly an excuse to have Willis and Wayans do their thing, but that alone is enough to make it practically obligatory viewing during football season.

Our protagonists are both disgraced men. Joe Hallenbeck is a private detective and former Secret Service agent who lost his last job after he punched out a senator he caught raping a woman. Jimmy Dix is a former star quarterback for the Los Angeles Stallions (because like hell the NFL would let them use real team names in a movie like this) who was fired and banned from the league as the chronic pain caused by his injuries on the field led to drug addiction and, from there, involvement in gambling. Together, They Fight Crime -- specifically by uncovering a gambling ring within the league that's scheming to get sports betting legalized in order to make it a more exciting experience for viewers, damn the consequences (gambling addiction, game-fixing), and is willing to kill in order to do it. It's the kind of suspicion of authority and rich fat cats that, almost as much as witty buddy-cop banter, I've noticed is something of a trend in Shane Black's screenplays, and while it's an altogether shallow treatment of sports betting that serves largely as background flavor, it's a story that predicted, decades before the rise of DraftKings and FanDuel, just how corrosive it would be to sports in general. (One change, though: I would've had the shadowy hitman in the opening threatening to kill the running back if he wins instead of loses, since throwing matches and point-shaving are how a lot of sports betting scandals go down in real life.)

The heart and soul of the film is Bruce Willis and Damon Wayans as Joe and Jimmy, both deeply troubled men who mean well but are otherwise plagued by all manner of demons. Joe's strong moral code gets him compared to a Boy Scout (hence the title), but it also ruined his career once it put him on a collision course with the powerful crooks who run everything, while Jimmy was chewed up and spit out by a corrupt sports league that wore down his body and then blamed him for the resulting drug addiction. They're both bitter, cynical assholes, but they have damn good reason to be. Willis was always a master of action movie snark, and his talent for such is on full display here as he has to put up with indignities from everyone around him, not least of all his estranged wife and his rebellious daughter. Wayans, meanwhile, gets the more serious role as a guy who's pissed at the world and jumped head-first into hedonism as his life fell apart, but one who's not all that different from Joe except that his vices aren't as socially acceptable as alcoholism. Two guys who look like polar opposites, especially in the contrast between Joe's blue-collar status and Jimmy's fame and fortune (highlighted in a great exchange involving Jimmy's $650 leather pants), but turn out to have a lot more in common than they think is ripe material for a buddy comedy, and Willis and Wayans have great buddy chemistry together. The supporting cast, too, is filled with character actors giving fun performances, whether it's Noble Willingham as the villainous team owner Marcone, Taylor Negron as the terrifying hitman Milo, a young Halle Berry as Jimmy's stripper girlfriend Corey, or a young Danielle Harris stealing the show as Joe's daughter Darian, feeling almost like a prototype for Angourie Rice's character in The Nice Guys in terms of being what happens if you gave Nancy Drew the mouth of a sailor. (And now I wanna see Shane Black write a Nancy Drew movie.)

When it comes to action, this is a Tony Scott movie, and if you know the first thing about Tony Scott, you know what you're getting: flashy action, glamorous vistas, and a lot of visual flair. This movie looks damn good in that peculiar '80s/early '90s studio way, a movie that knows exactly how big and dumb it is and leans right into it. The opening scene of an ill-fated running back at the end of his rope giving a whole new meaning to "pistol offense" sets the tone and lets you know what you're in for straight away, a film big on splashy visuals and moments designed to set a mood. The plot is fairly boilerplate and easy to figure out, existing largely to drive the action and the characters' banter and get you to the real reason this movie exists, which is the car chases, shootouts, and explosions that are all handled with aplomb. From start to finish, this movie is incredibly entertaining, the kind of flick that invites you to turn off your brain and have a great time watching a pair of very charismatic actors run around Los Angeles with guns.

The Bottom Line

The Last Boy Scout is a kick-ass, no-nonsense buddy action/comedy anchored by a pair of great lead performances, a witty script, and director Tony Scott doing what he does best. This was perfect viewing just before the Super Bowl, and honestly at any other time of year.

Random Headcannons about Specfic Character's Heartless Stemming from an AU I have Never Posted About!

(This is under the notion that, for some inexplicable reason, a special Heartless is capable of amplifying any darkness found within someone's heart, so that those with even a little bit of darkness would still create a strong Heartless. Also none of them are explicitly darklings because I like myself some symbolic, abstract monster designs.)

*taps mic*

Sora (who is here and alive btw) has those eldritch horror tentacles he had in that one section of Xehanort's boss fight sprouting out of his back. I just think they're neat.

Roxas is very nobody-like, surprisingly. It makes sense once you consider the fact that replica bodies can't create nobodies. Xion is in the same boat, their bodies are kinda just layin there.

Aqua is constantly melting and dissolving into puddles on the floor, appearing as a large spot of black-blue. She can also move incredibly fast like this. However, it also seems to cause her Heartless... pain.

Lea is really spiky. And on fire, but that was obvious. One noticeable thing is the tear tracks constantly running down his face, which never seem to stop.

Riku is a large bat-dragon-thing. He also has shackles and broken chains on his ankles and wrists. The chains have been mending themselves, however. Whenever he notices, he attacked them relentlessly until they appear beyond repair. The cycle begins anew afterward.

Terra obviously has some elements of the Guardian in his design, but just making him the Guardian again sounds boring to me so obviously I need to give him more trauma.

Kairi evades becomign a hearless due to her heart having no darkness, but she just can’t get what she did for Sora at the end of KH1 work for any of them, and this just makes her feel even more useless.

Xion is a puppet, literally. Her final boss form from the end of Days gets a darker recolor while being held up by strings connected to one of those wooden-puppet-control-thingies. Roxas doesn't like to look at her.

Riku is technically a Heartless and a Nightmare? None of them are Emblem Heartless but he's got the Nightmare symbol between his wings.

Lea is the second largest of the bunch, and has two chakram-looking things circling him at all times. Xion and Roxas fit neatly under him, and like to hide under there.

Aqua gets as much trauma as Terra because the Wayfinder Trio is my favorite so I put them through pain. Her color scheme is very Anti-Aqua :)

Sora is very fast, and he skitters around like a cat. He is also very spiky.

Ven may not of had his heart dragged out of him by the weird heartless, but he is definitely not having a good time. He didn't even recognize Terra and Aqua.... at first. (I swear I love the Wayfinder Trio with all of my heart)

Roxas resembles a... weasel? Ferret? Something like that; no one can put a finger on it. He also has samurai swords, because yes.

Terra is seemingly made up of rock and soil, and it is primarily held together by the bandages left behind from his Guardian form. He is also the largest out of all of them, a little over half the size of that one really big KH2 Heartless boss in the Pridelands. (I can't remember it's name.)

All of the Seasalt Trio Heartless have their number somewhere on their bodies (XIII, XIV, etc.), the Wayfinder Trio Heartless have thier armor represented in some fashion, and the Destiny Trio all have a paupo fruit inscribed on themselves somewhere.

And Isa (who dodged the entire encounter by not being a keyboard wielder) is just trying to keep Ven and Kairi safe after all of this shit goes down. He doesn't have the time or the energy to get into how he is feeling right now (and boy howdy, is it nothing good). After all, the three of them were...

Ohhh, there are so many that I don't even really have a solid number for them?? Like I have stuff I already talked about, like GG and O Sol, and then there are things I've only talked about in passing with friends that don't have a storyline or an actual idea name.
