“ yeah, it's me. and you . . . ” he sounded equally 'thrilled' to see Naeun standing nearby Lee's hospital bed. ( which was to say: NOT THRILLED AT ALL. ) Tai didn't care if Jinwoo liked this girl; he didn't. his dark eyes regard her similarly to a fly on the wall: a pest that may be harmless compared to a stingered hornet, but was no less annoying. this was a hospital, though, not the Black Fang garage: she was pretty safe from his position of power in this neutral, peaceeful place. there wasn't much he could do other than verbally antagonize her, but that he did: “ what are you even doing here? ” Tai drops the items he had been carrying in his hand, onto an endtable near Lee’s bed, where it looked as though his friend was sound asleep . . . the contents were a phone charger and an iPhone: a much older model than the one he used, though. it was an extra phone that Tai had found lying around, and filled to the brim with playlists of music that Lee loved. he was going to leave it for him here, to let it play on a low volume all day and night long, so Lee had something to listen to . . . they used to love listening to music together. they’d play all the new releases, and suss out who was making a good or bad album this year . . . Tai doesn’t like that Naeun is here, interrupting what he intended to be a private moment, between him and his old friend. he looks at her disparagingly. “ . . . what– did he tell you he thinks you’re pretty? ' he wants to take you on a ride on his motorcycle?” ( is flirtation what kept her coming back? Lee did have a way with girls... ) “ – ‘cause if he did, don’t let it get to your head. he tells that to every girl he thinks he has a chance with, and that’s a lot of girls. ” he crossed his arms and leaned against the wall, looking at her with moody but patient obstinance in his eyes. he was waiting for her to take the hint, and leave. but the consistent beeping of Lee’s heart monitoring machine started to make him restless, and anxious. it reminded him of how his friend relied on machines and doctors to stay alive. ( it reminded him that Lee couldn’t rely on HIM… if he could, he wouldn’t be here, and neither would Naeun. ) Tai looked around the room, to distract himself. in the sunlit window sat a beautiful bouquet of flowers left by Lee's mother, and a collection of notes and cards with messages for Lee, and a childlike crayon drawing left by one of his younger cousins . . . heartfelt little gifts, meant to cheer Lee up when he was conscious to see them, but every one of them made Tai’s heart ache. did Lee know they were here? could he see them? did he know how much everyone cared? he forgets about his grudge, temporarily, and calls to Naeun, even though he had just tried to kick her out. “ hey . . . if you can really talk to him . . . he knows we miss him, right . . . ? you’ve told him ? ” a drop of water quietly fell from one of the leaves in Pureun's bouquet, and landed on the windowsill. Lee's mother must have been by recently, to water it. his throat tightened, and he felt a wave of sadness so thick it made him a little nauseous. his voice grew quieter: lacking the aggression that had lined every word before his final ones; “ he knows I'm sorry ... right ? ”

This is the second time she encounters the man, not because she wants to but because of her job (though this time it’s not involving him). These days she gets to have side quests like this where she’s tasked to trail men or women who think their partners were having an affair. And somehow, two of their clients in the past have raised the same guy with two different names which came to her surprise at first, but now there’s an odd sense of familiarity with his face (which doesn’t bear the best impression). If she can, she would definitely whack his head, kick his arse if opportunity arises, so much for fooling with women she thought. “I appreciate the compliment. So is this how you flirt with every woman you see?” her words curl with an unamused tone as she takes a sip of the wine handed to her at the club earlier, hoping he’d leave her alone so she can get back to her task at hand.

Lee Pureun recognizes the pretty P.I. ( @ergebenheit ) yes, she'd left quite an impression on him: being the reason he'd found his belongings in a box, on the doorstep of a ex-girlfriends apartment . . . they had been left to rot out in the elements, rained on, and he was pretty sure a stray cat had peed in the box, too. all of his clothes and his phone charger and the toothbrush were ruined beyond repair. BUT ALAS. he supposed he did deserve it for playing with some poor girls' heart . . . he wasn't pretending he was an innocent victim in the situation, BUT, in his defense ! he HADN'T ever told the girl they were an exclusive couple, either... so WAS IT REALLY HIS FAULT IF SHE HAD ERRONEOUSLY ASSUMED THEM TO BE SO, just because he had lavished her with romantic sentiments ?!?!? still, he doesn't hold a grudge against Naeun at all. she was just doing her job. he sighs, shakes his head at the nameless detective in light-hearted disappointment. " don't be like that, " he complains. it's natural for her to be defensive ( thinking she's talking to a filthy CHEATER ) but his charming boyish smile is meant to disarm that. " if you really followed me for two weeks, you know I don't flirt with every woman I see ... only hot ones! " he jokes.

was she on another job, he wonders? taking a sip of his flavored beer, he tries to follow the path of her eyes. " who are you following now? I'll bet you a drink: I can tell you if they're cheating or not ... if I'm wrong, I'll owe you any drink you want. deal ? "

Drama Rating: 8/10

This drama is about a mermaid who falls in love with an ordinary man.

There are two timelines in the show, one is during the Joseon era and the other during the present time, both timeline is interconnected for it is believed that history repeats itself no matter the lifetime is. In the past, a mermaid and a noble man fell in love with each other but society dictated that it was forbidden. Their love was deemed to be a doomed fate, however both will try their everything to go against all odds. In the present, another mermaid – one who seems to be reincarnated from the past, meets a peculiar con artist who is more than what he seems and falls in love with him. She goes to all kinds of trouble to find him and when they finally meet again, fate seems to turn its wheels back into motion for the two lovers who were destined for each other from the very beginning.

This drama definitely has a lot to offer. I have been putting off on watching this drama for a long time because I heard a lot of people say it wasn’t that good and that there should be a season two. As for me, I think the drama was wrapped up pretty well… there’s just some scenes I couldn’t agree with how they decided to end it which I will talk about in a spoiler tag later. Over all it was a good watch, I loved the twists the story has given me at the end and how everyone was able to move forward with their lives. Also, there’s that part in which a person’s past is intertwined with the present person. I liked that part, because no matter how they turn away from their true selves, their actual personality and principles eventually takes care of them – damning fate and destiny.

Another thing that I liked about it was the backstory of the main lead guy, Heo Joon Jae acted by Lee Min Ho. When I read the synopsis of the drama, I was initially turned off by the fact that the main guy was a con-artist. Since there weren’t much explanation on what his character is about other than that, my interest in the story as a whole got downsized and thus this drama was set aside for basically three years. What I didn’t expect though was his history until I’ve finally watched it. I like how interesting his life was and why he became a con-artist in the first place, despite having a family back ground such as his. There were a lot of things going on around his life that it made things more complicated and fascinating to watch. Then add up a strong, beautiful mermaid into his life, well… I’ll just say that it was a very exciting show to watch.

Honestly, Jun Ji Hyun stole the limelight of the show. Yes, Lee Min Ho was really good looking but Ji Hyun was spectacular here that she definitely overshadowed Min Ho. Her character as a mermaid was ethereal but when she turned into a human, she was seriously lovable with all the funny antics and crazy quirks she learned along the way. I also love the name they gave her, it was so appropriate in many levels. On a side note, the other supporting casts were awesome as well. They added color to the show and made things more complicated with their own story. Their lives intertwined so perfectly from the past and the present that everything makes sense up to the very end.

Cinematography was breathe taking and I like the fact that the production wasn’t cheap. They were able to afford to shoot overseas and make everything look so darn beautiful. The OST on the other hand was something that I could have set aside. It wasn’t as memorable as it should be but it was enough to put emotions on the scenes. Over all it was a good watch. I’m glad I picked it up and would definitely recommend it to those who likes mermaids, fantasy love story and happy endings.

The major thing I didn’t like about this show was the memory loss. When Shim Chung decided to erase everyone’s memory before she left to recuperate back into the sea, it was a really stupid move. Why erase everyone’s memory when she’s going back to them again? She should have been honest in the first place that she had to heal for a couple of years and when she’s finally alright, she will return to them. They would have waited for her no matter what. When she erased their memories, it left a hole in their hearts and there were remnants of her that everyone couldn’t figure out. That’s the most disappointing part of the drama which the writers caused. I’m betting they did it to have at least another problem up to the very end of the episode which was very unnecessary.
