So, about this whole "AI" thing...
A response to an ask (for some reason, tumblr won't let me blaze normal responsicles)
Tumblr media
Like the Titan, Prometheus, Man Has Stolen Fire From the Gods. We can now make minds in our own image, elevating crude matter to the level of self-awareness. So... What next?
Tumblr media
The first thing I would like to make clear is that, in some respects, my opinion here is irrelevant. So is yours. So are the opinions of the people reading this.
No matter what we do, no matter what we believe, something remains inviolably clear and true:
BAD ACTORS WILL EXPLOIT GENUINELY USEFUL TECHNOLOGIES TO BENEFIT THEMSELVES
This is an axiom of human behaviour that cannot be escaped. Nuclear power is amongst the most regulated technologies that have ever existed... and right now, rogue states are attacking their neighbours, protected from intervention by the threat of nuclear annihilation.
Nuclear Weapons (their own, and Red China's) are what allows the North Korean government to continue oppressing its population.
Nuclear Weapons enable The Land Of The Bear to invade The Ukraine.
Despite this, nuclear power has otherwise been mostly regulated out of existence. It is cheap, safe, and abundant, yet various laws make it either artificially expensive or outright illegal to heat your home with it, light your rooms, power your transportation, trim your hedges.
Regulations and anti-technology hysteria can prevent ordinary people from benefitting from innovation, but they cannot prevent the worst people in the world from abusing it.
So, whatever worst-case scenario you've imagined? Accept the fact that it's going to happen no matter what you do.
Legions of nanobots reconfiguring us into paperclips, a la Eliezar Yudkowski's bizarrely specific fever dreams? If you think it is possible, accept that it is inevitable.
Tumblr media
Intelligent machines with glowing red eyes malevolently hunting us through a post-apocalyptic wasteland, a la James Cameron/The Wachowskis? If you think it is possible, accept that it is inevitable.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lying governments using deepfaked videos to create un-debunkable false-flags and cheaply manufacture consent for wars to further their adrenochrome-harvesting operations? Let's face it, they don't even need AI for that, most people will just take their claims at face value.
Tumblr media
But what if we all agree to stop using it?
Technologies are sometimes lost, yes, but this happens gradually, over the course of decades if not centuries. Civilisations can decline and lose access to technologies, but that's not likely to happen for AI within our lifetimes.
If it works, if it is genuinely useful, it WILL be used.
We have seen this play out time and time again, throughout history.
So, we can either do what we did for nuclear power, and regulate it so heavily that it serves no useful purpose to the Just and the Kind, whilst availing the Corrupt and the Wicked...
Or we can accept Evil shall be done, and try with all our might to counter it with Good.
We can strive to Magnanimous heights of Faustian greatness, using AI to create untold works of beauty, so that Human Grandeur at least rivals Human Depravity.
Tumblr media
In summary:
We have stolen Fire from the Gods. The more noble-minded amongst us might as well do something worthwhile with it.

Doctrine?
I hope the following will help us identify things that do and do not change over time. I think if members would stick to this, we would have fewer problems honestly. I'll use the Word of Wisdom for my list below, but you can add anything here and it will work well:
Doctrine (pure truth that never changes and can be applied to all God’s children at any time in the history of the world) - * Example: "Our earthly, mortal bodies are an important part of God's eternal plan for us."*
Principle (a good value derived directly from Doctrine that does not contain a specific practice) - Example:  "We should take care of our mortal bodies and treat them with respect"
Policy (a specific practice required by the church as part of the regular order of behaviors) - Example: "No coffee, tea or tobacco, and this is required for a temple recommend."
Counsel (a specific set of recommendations and guidelines, often derived from Principle but not something the church has implemented as required Policy) - Example: The rest of the Word of Wisdom
This was life-changing for me, and I hope it does some good for you as you listen to counsel from church leaders speaking about the doctrine of God - and also about principles and practices that are important to them.

Watching TBB show runners and team members have to handle a decent amount of their own marketing for their show is interesting to see, because it mirrors how in publishing right now a LOT of authors have to market their own books. However, they are not in marketing by trade (hence the trend of having your book cover with arrows pointing to the tropes in the book). For both these groups this means an erosion of the boundary between the fan and creator. Look, they're posting memes! Look, they're joining in on jokes!! Fandoms are way more parasocial now than I ever remember them being. Show runners are gonna be privy to and probably accidentally join in on fandom discourse, controversies, etc. the kiners posted a joke that implied they shipped clonecest, which had a lot of quotes going "pls no we just had a clonecest discourse". Authors these days manage their own marketing, have no PR team, and end up getting embroiled in a massive controversy that is inextricably tied to their book. This one especially seems to be happening more and more often?
Either way I don't like it. I've seen fans yell at the show runners and I've seen authors totally fumble their marketing because they don't know how to describe their book and I've seen multiple influencers WAY oversell the emotionality/content of a particular TBB episode, which left a lot of fans confused, stressed, and frustrated.
I'm not saying TBB necessarily deserves the attention but these corporations need to go back to actually marketing their stuff. Get a proper advertising team that won't mislead won't oversell and won't accidentally (or not) make an NSFW joke about your kids show. Or get embroiled in a controversy.

"In order to be able to hold to one principle you have to repress the others, and in that case they may vanish from your consciousness. Then of course they will be projected and you will feel persecuted by people who have other views, or you may persecute them—it works both ways."

When I talk about giving rights to gays and Transgenders, I'm not talking about oppressing heterosexuals and cisgender.
When I say giving rights to people of color, I don't mean removing the rights of white people.
When I talk about empowering women, I'm not talking about ignoring men.
Freedom is an idea that benefits everyone without oppressing anyone.

Good and Bad Trickster Leaders
For whatever reason, your chosen leader is a Trickster who seeks to deceive your common enemy.
Your leader has made it clear to anyone who will pay attention that he’s a trickster who will sometimes do or say apparently detrimental things to lure his enemies into traps.
Necessarily, he can’t risk telling everyone on your side his plans, so you’re never entirely sure whether he’s actually making a mistake, or finally betraying you for his own gain, or merely setting up another trap to thwart your enemies.
Bad Leadership
A bad trickster leader will expect you to excuse his every single action as part of some grand master plan. He bases his plans around the idea that you will compromise your principles and even ignore your own common sense to advocate for every single one of his plans with your total enthusiasm.
This sort of leader has no respect for you, and is therefore far more likely to betray you.
Good Leadership
A good trickster leader will expect you to judge his every action on a case-by-case basis. He plans around the idea that you will never compromise your principles and will always take the course of action that clearly benefits you, even if it means opposing his current course of action.
In this way, he can lead you to generate the appearance of division and weakness in your ranks while actually dividing his forces to handle two different tasks. Then, when hindsight reveals the trap he laid, you and he can reunite around your shared goal and return to your unified strength.
This sort of leader must respect you, and is therefore far less likely to betray you.
Bad Followers
A bad follower blindly trusts his leadership, no matter what. They can’t help but lose the respect of their leaders, which leaves those leaders little choice but to adopt bad leadership policies, since they can’t count on you to act sensibly. Since you’ll only do what they tell you, they have to tell you everything.
Good Followers
Good followers force their leaders to adopt good leadership policies by forcing them to respect their followers. If the leader cannot make you do anything simply by telling you to do it, if the leader knows that you’ll balk at compromising your principles and that you’ll refuse to do anything that seems outright self-destructive, then they have to either work to convince you or plan to work around your self-interest.
You Get The Leadership You Deserve

Hey cybersmith, our views really dont align, but damn i kinda respect you for the way you argue for even the most batshit insane opinions while always staying respectful (atleast to the person youre arguing with).
Kudos to you my guy (but damn get out of your bubble)
get out of your bubble
I'm not in a bubble! The reason so many of my "batshit opinions" end up being circulated is precisely because I go out of my way to talk to people with whom I disagree!
I am a great believer in talking to people with whom one disagrees!
For this reason (amongst others) I am a great opponent of censorship!
Which is why I am a little frustrated by the fact that so many of the leftist transwomen who are complaining about the censorship of their cohorts... immediately advocating that said censorship be applied to "nazis" instead!
The only way any of us can grow and strengthen our concepts is if we talk to one another!
THERE IS NO OTHER WAY.
The Socratic method remains undefeated.
Dialogue is the crucible in which ideas are tested and tempered.
I would very much like it if people stopped blocking me, as a result!
Recently, I was blocked by
Arctic Dementor (tumblr.com) (right wing)
and
TxttleTale. (tumblr.com) (left wing)
Censorship is bad! We should all be able to respectfully converse!
(please ask these people to unblock me 🥺)

Beauty matters for several reasons. It can evoke emotions, inspire creativity, and bring joy. It also plays a significant role in cultural expression, communication, and even in our perceptions of ourselves and others. Additionally, beauty often reflects harmony, balance, and excellence, which are values deeply ingrained in human experiences.

For that is truly great power which does not degenerate into mere force but remains inwardly united with the fundamental principles of right and of justice. When we understand this point — namely, that greatness and justice must be indissolubly united — we understand the true meaning of all that happens in heaven and on earth.

"Now, Windle," he said, "I'd like you to imagine that what I have in my hand--"
"It's quite all right," said Windle.
"I'm not actually sure I can hammer--"
"I don't mind, I assure you," said Windle.
"You don't?"
"The principle is sound," said Windle. "If you just hand me the celery but think hammering a stake, that's probably sufficient."
"That's very decent of you," said Ridcully. "That shows a very proper spirit."
"Esprit de corpse," said the Senior Wrangler.
Ridcully glared at him, and thrust the celery dramatically toward Windle.
"Take that!" he said.
"Thank you," said Windle.
