I think the reasoning behind pre-quirk music is mostly that the story takes place in the future
The way I personally do it is have Internet archives in universe that have old pre-quirk media in general
I get that, totally... But ill counter with: bnha's worldbuilding is loose enough that we cant actually rightfully say it takes place in the distant future, and the world is so different it might as well be a parallel universe to our own.
Plus, its fiction, their "future time" can have the same music as our "modern day" if we want it to! Nothing's holding us back! If u want your faves to love the same music you do - then you can have that! Without having to jump through hoops like "oh yeah this one indie song Definitely survived hundreds of years in an internet archive (when its already rare that things last 20+ years on the internet) and this character would Definitely be trolling through old archives for difficult-to-access music."
To steal phrasing from my friend "well people can turn invisible and they didnt land on the moon so like i think you can just say [your favorite music] is big whenever bnha is happening."
I just want all these fic writers and fan artists to do whatever they want forever without worrying that it doesnt fit the fandom's arbitrary conventions. :]

"Play other games" yes absolutely but I'd like to propose a corollary of "play older games" where everyone has to engage at least once with a game that's at least twenty years old (specifically a publication at least twenty years old. no cheating.) and find one web resource that's at least ten years old or print resource at least fifteen years old discussing it.

when you see through life's illusions (there lies the danger) by blue_coquelicot
(T, 18K, 1/1)
Yesterday, Katsuki fell asleep in his bed—and Shouto, on the dojo floor.
Today, things are a little different.
OR a body swap fic starring reluctant-participant Bakugou Katsuki, airhead-extraordinaire Todoroki Shouto—and a handful of secrets uncovered...

You! Who is your favorite Link and why?
TWILIGHT! WITH NO HESITATION, TWILIGHT!!
Maybe I'm a bit biased since Twilight Princess is my favorite game. I just absolutely adore the friendship Twilight and Midna foster. It starts out as two people who dislike each other but must work together for mutual benefit. Just as you think the journey is coming to an end, both partners are put into life threatening situations. They both mutually save each other and now the relationship between the two is so much more than just mutual beneficiaries. I mean, just go and peek at how they look at each other when Link pulls the Master Sword. Those are two people who support each other.
And then it ends. For the sake of both of them, Midna shatters the *only* connection between the Light World and the Twilight realm. There was no warning there was no preparing yourself for this because Midna didn't tell anyone her final plan. It's heartbreaking. Link just lost his best friend, the person who saw everything he went through, all the trials, the struggles, the effort put into his journey. They discovered new places, traveled to buildings that haven't been touched in centuries, and saved Hyrule *together.* And then she just left.
It's heartbreaking, not just to Link but to the player as well. I beat the game when I was 5 and while I didn't understand half the text I was reading, I saw the Mirror of Twilight break with it's Princess being the last passenger to use it. It's a clear cut ending, no alternative routes to get Midna back. The second half of the journey was to get to the Twilight realm, the player knows how much of a struggle that was.
There is no hope of Midna returning.
Perhaps I relate to Twilight. I don't know how, I never bothered to figure out why. All I know is his story. How, despite everything being against him, his entire world once being shrouded in Twilight, he fought against *everything* to get what was his back. He never sacrificed the children of the village, he never gave up on Illa's memories, he went out of his way to help people he hardly knew (Queen Rutella, Kakariko and the Gorons, the grand-children of the fisherman from Ocarina of Time). Link does every action that I wanted to do without question and with complete confidence.
Twilight is my hero. The Link that I hold dearest.
My second favorite is Ocarina of Time, simply because of how LU represents him.

ngl my only praise for bnha was kinda the endeavour arc, but uh,,, yeah wtf was that chapter. "endeavour was right all along, he shouldve kept pushing the child!!" blegh
Yeah, I agree.
I really don't like the added ice Quirk from any angle. Sure, you can argue it gives more of an explanation on how Touya will inevitably survive, but it's weak at best. Ice doesn't heal burns and no amount of cooling would fix someone whose been burned to the bone all over their body. Ice or not he should be dead--I would expect Shoto to die if he ever looked the same way, even though he has ice. If the solution is going to be so nonsensical and handwavey anyway, and it undermines the themes and characters so much, might as well just drop it.
Touya's ice adds nothing and only negatively effects the themes and characters.
It's framed in a way where it can be seen as rubbing salt in Enji's wounds and showing how bad a father he was because Touya was perfect the entire time, but that only implies that Enji should have kept training Touya despite the physical pain it caused him. It's just weird because the story is shitting on Enji for one of the few things he did right. The issue never should have been that he stopped training Touya--it should be that he didn't replace that one on one time with some other safe alternative. Enji should have spent quality time with Touya regardless of Quirk, but he didn't. Yet, now it implies that the training would have paid off if Enji had just stuck with it.
This chapter also sort of props up the Quirk marriage he had with Rei. Her family was apparently full of inbred racists who would have sold her off to anyone with a big enough paycheck. It also gives more support to the idea that Rei was 100% on board with the Quirk marriage because that was what her family had been practicing for years anyways. On top of that the marriage worked first try with Touya. Touya's existence is no longer showing that trying for a perfect Quirk had detrimental consequences all on it's own, but instead that Enji giving up on Touya was the only reason he didn't achieve perfectness.
It also guts any character development Touya could have. He's now right, he was always the son Enji wanted. His constant suicidal and self harming actions get him exactly what he always wanted. He's literally being rewarded for being suicidal--which is a huge problem. He no longer has to come to love himself outside of his Quirk, see that he should always have been cared for no matter how useful he was to his father's ambitions.
It really does leave a very bad taste in my mouth with all the implications and twisting of the themes. I doubt any of it was intentional, but the execution is very flawed and I highly doubt these issues can be fixed going forward. It's just makes me really sad because Enji's arc was the one I was most interested in because it was actually showed how hard change is and was about an adult character rather then a plucky teenager. Yet, it's getting to the point I kind of think Hori might have had a better story if he'd left Enji a one dimensional asshole and killed him off given how he's written this side-plot.
#ask#thanks for the ask!#enji todoroki#endeavor#I mean it's just weird that it validated pre-redemption Enji's ideas about the perfect Quirk#which ends up shitting on Enji's character presently#like idk the way Hori never lets Enji actually do anything past be sorry for what's done#because Shoto and the family have to play a part in saving Touya#is really frustrating because it leaves him in a loop that feels like it never goes anywhere#which doesn't work in a shonen like this#I mean Enji feels like a character out of a show like Succession#meanwhile Shoto and the rest of the family are just run of the mill shonen characters#like Enji is far more realistically written#he struggles and freezes and is effected by what happens#but Shoto and the fam aren't#Shoto in particular hasn't been anything but a stock plucky perfect person since the end of the first war arc#he has 0 conflict about Touya and never gives up or has doubts#which is fine because this is a shonen#but that's why Enji comes across as ineffectual and constantly backsliding#Enji should have gotten some moments to step up and be more of a normal shonen character#like idk why he couldn't have been more on board to save Touya#and only left Touya to Shoto because they both knew Touya would only react worse if he was there#it's a mistake but not because he has no hope or because he can't face his problems#because what was the point of bothering to redeem Enji if he's only allowed to make bad choices up until the final moment#it becomes a waste of time#i mean we've had so many self refection scenes with Enji but he always ends up back a square one#because he's not allowed to actually do anything for some reason

have you ever hit all for one with the DADMIGHT stick? I know you've hit a lot of people with the dad for one stick but idk about dadmight
I have not
Katydid did, via time travel grabbing a little AfO and Yoichi from the future and yeeting then forward, which is fun. I think I'd probably do it the other way, which is sad. Toshinori, having twin little sons he hides away because it's too risky when he's fighting AfO... But perhaps their mother dies in his fight with AfO, and so they're waiting to meet their father, who is apparently All Might (tiny Yoichi is in awe, tiny Hajime is confused by how badly hurt he was), and Toshinori has never hurt so much in his life but perhaps finally he can get to know his sons- and then Nighteye tells him he's going to die in seven, maybe eight years. His little boys will still be so little- not even teenagers. It'll hurt them so much, and they'll have to find a new family again, and perhaps it's better to just do that now. So he looks, avoiding the boys, but Hajime wants to know what was up with that, and asks Sir to look into his future, grabbing his leg and demanding it. Sir figures that perhaps if he sees the boys grow up safe and happy it'll ease All Might's regrets, the least he can do now as he leaves, but instead he sees- "All For One!" All Might hears, and terrified searches for someone who can send the boys somewhere farther, safer. Eventually, the boys taken to someone with a quirk that sends them back in time. Toshinori knows both his sons are as quirkless as he is, and honestly will be safer then than now, and the quirk user can make sure they're set up somewhere safe and happy. So he bids them goodbye, so they don't have to see him dying.
But turns out his sons weren't quirkless after all. And they'll see him again sooner than he thought.

The problem about my DadSnipe AU is that I have already written the most powerful DadSnipe energy for the stain arc in a DIFFERENT fic and I now have to come up with something better than Snipe powersliding down a warp wall of ice cradling Izuku’s bleeding body and promising that everything will be okay. Like??? How do I top that??

Shoutout to Batman: Dark Victory for having the most efficient “you already know what happens here” storytelling I’ve ever seen outside of fanfiction. One guy mentions going to the circus, we see tickets on another guy’s desk, then you turn the page and BOOM! The Graysons are already dead. Turn it again, now Dick’s in the Batcave. They really did straight-up skip 2/3 of his origin, because they didn’t want to bother.

I've been in the DCA fandom since the beginning, seen a whole lot of cool and thought-provoking theories on them, their game mechanics, backstory, etc.
But one thing I've been wondering from the beginning that I've never seen touched on: what the hell's up with the glitter in Moon's hunting sequences lmao
Is Moon just dumping glitter on Gregory from above as Greg tries to run away? The DCA would have access to a fuck-ton of the stuff. But assuming Moon is under the influence of a virus and he has very little ability/isn't aware enough to resist, why/how would he divert from the virus's directive to stuff his pockets with loose glitter?
All this to say, imagine post-virus he finds out (somehow) that the only non-virus thing he did was torment some kid with glitter while chasing him down.
And we all know glitter sticks on you forever. If he makes amends with Gregory (like in SYWSAR) I bet Gregory would 100% give him hell about it everytime he finds another fleck in his hair.
