I'm so fucking sick of amatonormativity dude. Someone on Reddit left a comment that was basically like "the majority of people need a romantic relationship to be happy, it's how we're wired" and I responded saying that I disagreed and that more and more people (especially women) are finding fulfillment in other relationships and are happy being single.

I got heavily downvoted.

Of course most people like being in a committed relationship, but you don't have to be aromantic or asexual to enjoy being single. Maybe more people would like being single if we as a culture stopped pushing the narrative (especially on women) that being single is lonely, horrible, and depressing and that you need a romantic partner to be a complete person.

the uk government is trying to scrap the human rights act.

i’ve not seen a lot in the media about this so i’m going to do my best to put this into words and explain what will happen if the government is successful in replacing the human rights act with the bill of rights (aka the rights removal bill).

this will mean that in the uk:

you won’t be allowed to say anything negative about the government

if you are disabled or chronically ill, you won’t be allowed to say no to being given a DNR in hospital

you won’t be allowed to bring ‘trivial’ human rights violations to court

public authorities (the police) won’t have to actively protect people’s human rights

the uk military will be allowed to basically do whatever they want overseas

if you ever commit a crime, they can disregard your human rights

the government will not be obligated to obey human rights

As the day winds down you find yourself sinking further into your couch. The red and golden hues of the sunset shining into your living room from the large window on the northern wall. It was a rough day, and all you want to do is shut your brain off and fall asleep, hoping tomorrow won't be any worse. The stress of the day has taken its toll, and you'd give anything to feel a glimmer of happiness right now.

Almost as if on cue, your phone buzzes with a new notification. You pick it up, unsurprised by the name on the notification. It's her, sending a new picture message. You really aren't sure if you want to deal with the pending argument. Opening the message you are surprised by what you see.

You are pleasantly surprised by the message. It's a tad more forward than her previous attempts to court you, but you are still uncertain if you want to indulge her. I do genuinely think that the conversation revolving around the SA scene in Hazbin is very unproductive. It’s actively harming so many people in the process as well.

You have people saying “as a survivor, I didn’t like this scene and the portrayal” and others saying “as a survivor, I felt very seen and thought it was well done”. The comments themselves are fine, people can have their own take on a show- that’s how media literacy works. And neither opinion here is necessarily wrong.

It’s when you have people from both of these sides going to the other end and saying “Well other people felt seen by this so your opinion is invalid” or “you’re a terrible person for even liking something so wrong and triggering”. It’s when you discount both sides experiences with SA in favor of your own opinion- I’ve seen it happen equally on both ends of this controversy, no side has really done it more than the other. And that shouldn’t be an argument either- there’s no “well more people think this so it must be right”. Never let the internet dictate how you personally feel about something.

You can feel icky about the scene, that’s valid!

You can love the scene and its rawness, valid!

Think what you want to think, but don’t try and discount others experiences in the process. It’s only going to make both sides feel like shit in the long run. There are many people who worked on that scene who have experienced SA and felt it was important to represent how it can be- no one should shame them for it. You can be uncomfortable, you can be triggered by it- no one is telling you that you aren’t allowed to be.

It’s just not productive to expect others to feel the same way, and then get angry when they don’t.

Edit: I also understand the issue with Raph storyboarding the scene and will make a post in the near future discussing my thoughts on it- I do not condone anyone inserting their personal fetishes into a show. But I don’t think that’s the case here, more on that later.

So this has been bouncing around in my head for a WHILE (aka: a couple days) now but your lights out au kinda reminds me of a game that came out recently called "my friendly neighborhood" (really good game btw, highly recommend to either play or watch a playthrough) bc the plot is literally "puppets are just alive in this universe muppet-style & after their show got canceled they all got locked in their show's studio for a decade or so & went slightly mad bc of it". There's a whole bunch of differences, obviously, but mainly I just thought it'd be interesting if the player character, a grumpy-but-lovable handyman who's also a war vet that has Seen Some Shit, ended up at the playfellow studio in this au for one reason or another (maybe he was asked to go in & check that the electricity all still works correctly?). Idk how the puppets would react to his arrival, but at least he's got some practice handling aggressive (or overly enthusiastic) puppets who haven't seen a real, live human in years.

i've been meaning to watch a playthrough for a week now T¬T i remember watching the demo and being immediately So Fucking Hyped for the game's release
