Everything you need to know about the Lady Ruth's Recipes charity zine:
What is it?
It's a Carry On themed charity zine supporting Planned Parenthood! There are over 20 recipes (submitted by people within the fandom) and each recipe is accompanied with either a fic or a piece of art (and sometimes both!) that features the food from the recipe. It will be available in digital form only.
The stories and art cover a wide range of characters and relationships from the Carry On universe. And the entirety of the content is rated G or T.
When does it come out?
The zine will come out on December 1st, 2023. Pre-orders will be open from now until the release date. The zine will also be available for 4 weeks after that date. After December 31st we will no longer be fulfilling orders, so if you want a copy, get it before it's gone!
How do I order a copy?
We're asking people to make their donations directly to Planned Parenthood (or your country's equivalent for reproductive care services, if that is easier). After doing so, send a screenshot with proof of your donation to [email protected] and your pre-order will be submitted! A minimum donation of $20 USD is required, but you are welcome to donate more. The minimum donation is $10 for the final 2 days of December! If you are buying copies for more than just yourself, please note that in your email and list out the extra email addresses that those copies should be sent to.

We have many contributors that made this whole project possible! We'll be teasing everyone's work in the weeks leading up to the release of the zine, but here's the big list of everyone involved!

there are SO MANY amazing ladrien fics i cant possibly cover them all but here are a few!

When Adrien takes to wandering the streets of Paris in ungodly hours, Ladybug has no choice but to keep an eye on him. Still, things are bound to get a little out of hand between two overloaded teenagers with a lot of love and not enough self-control.
a lovely post-chat blanc fic :’) it has a great flow and is just soft and so sweet and it’s just perfect. gosh i cannot really say more other than read it!!! also almost all of their other stuff is also ladrien so do check it out!

Ladybug is unsure whether accompanying Adrien to a gala as his not-date is the best or worst thing that has ever happened to her. But when their table mates turn out to be none other than her long time friends Alya and Nino and with Adrien acting weirder and weirder she finds herself with bigger worries than an unrequited crush.
a djwifi/ladrien double date? hit me up! i love identity shenanigans, ball dancing, ladrien, and djwifi and this is a perfect mix for me. i know it’s incomplete but it doesn’t end in a cliff-hanger really, the part 2 is just a promise of more so it doesn’t feel incomplete! PlaPla also has a short oneshot of ladrien going for a motorcycle ride.

They had been dancing around each other for a while now, and while fifteen year old Adrien would have been ecstatic at the idea of dating Ladybug in secret, twenty-two year old Adrien knew better. this crack fic is... honestly so hilarious. it’s all through gabrie-i-am-trying-to-parent-and-failing-a-lot-agreste’s POV so it is so much ridiculous!
an uncurtain discovery by Missnoodles [ T, 4,684 words, 1/1 ]
When he returns from school on Wednesday afternoon, Adrien discovers the darkness in his own home. He struggles to come to terms with it. To his utter mortification and delight, Ladybug is nearby to rescue him.
(He does not discover that his father is supervillain. That will happen on a different Wednesday.)
Adrien is being a cat and gets tangled in the curtains on his window and it’s utterly ridiculous. all the bug and the cat tendencies make it funnier and adrien’s inner monologue is just a cherry on top!

Flowers on the Window Sill by LNC [ G, 2,144 words, 1/1 ]
The first time Ladybug saw him, really saw him, the universe stopped.
this fic feels like poetry and it’s so lovely. LNC is always short and direct but it always hits right in the feels while also being hilarious. Her other ladrien works are just as good and i highly recommend going through them because it fulfills all of the ladrien needs (along with Reiaji)

“I didn't think you'd actually... do anything," Adrien admitted, cheeks prickling with warmth. "I-I mean, I never expected... I didn't know you watched my interviews.” That definitely wasn’t how he'd imagined confessing to Ladybug.
“Of course I do!” Ladybug squeaked. “Uhh, that is…” She looked down at her hands, nervously turning her yo-yo over, over and over. “Maybe you’re not the only one with a crush.”

it does such an excellent job at exploring this dynamic along with the characters. it’s such a sweet fic, each chapter short and fun!

this is absolutely gorgeous. it has so many troupes and so many amazing character arc and great build up and everything just flows so well. it left me in awe for weeks and i just. want to experience reading it for the first time again. look at this gorgeous art inspired by this! {and you have to read leonard bernstein too because LETTERS and LADRIEN and YEARNING}
i would do it again (oh, a thousand times) by bugabisous [ T, 2,266 words, 1/1 ]
Knowing you can bring someone back doesn’t mean you’re free of the pain of seeing them disappear before your eyes. He can’t imagine he’ll be able to look at her directly without replaying every horrifying moment when he felt her slip away in a puff of smoke.
When it happens once again, he already knows he’ll be trying again. He just can’t give up.
it expands on adrien’s feelings in the episode desperada (my beloved <3) and it is just ouch. such great angst, such great potential. the kind of tragedy that it offers is unusual for ml (it gets only rivaled by chat blanc tbh). to rival this angst bugabisous also has a fluffy one-shot :)
when the world gets too heavy (put it on my back) by Taliax [ T, 4,720 words, 1/1 ]
Chat Noir isn't allowed to cry over his father. But even when he's just Adrien, Ladybug won't abandon him.
Hawkmoth reveal hurt/comfort + Ladrien
the plagg and adrien bond written is just perfect, and oh this hits right in the feels :’) it hurts all in the right way. tali also has so many other ladrien works in all genres too

“No.” Shame burns in Adrien’s veins, white-hot now that Ladybug is here to witness his stupidity. “I threw my Miraculous, and Plagg wouldn’t get it for me.”
post-hawkmoth defeat, and adrien is not doing well at all. i am cheating because it is post reveal, pre relationship but it’s still ladrien. this fic is a roller coater of emotions, starting from a slightly crack scenario to a cute, awkward, hopeful ending. More Than You Know is another of sunny’s angsty ladrien work!
Breaking The Rules (AKA The Ladrien Fistfight) by ThisKwamiNeeds_aNap [ T, 8,714 words, 1/1 ]
Marinette may or may not be dying, but she’s still going to do her best to fix every single problem in the world. She’s not expecting Adrien to be the one who tries to stop her.

*slaps this fic* this fic can fit in so much angst. it just?? left me in PAIN oof. it says ‘ladrien fistfight’ on the lid but nooo there is marinette is just having a freak out and it’s all so much??!! and it’s not just marinette there is adrien too and chloe and alya and- wow it’s amazing. love it so much it fills up my angst needs :’)

Fave ML Fics of 2020
Inspired by @anna-scribbles tagging me for the 8 favorite things I’ve done this year, I decided to make it 8 favorite fics other people have written instead :)
White Lies Over White Nights by meirencollector
Teen/Oneshot/8,806 words
There’s so much going on here—roommates AU, snowed in, drinking and truth-telling games, post-reveal pre-relationship and the pining! Absolutely delicious. It explores each side of the lovesquare so seamlessly and effectively, using flashbacks to contextualize their truth-or-drink game so you get this little peak into what their relationship is like based on how they answer (or don’t answer) questions, and then get the explanation via flashback. It’s a really interesting way of telling this story and it takes you through all the facets of their relationship really eloquently.

There’s something so incredibly compelling about idiots in love and nothing portrays that idea better than this fic. Marinette is ready and prepared to finally kiss her boyfriend of three weeks right on the mouth. A little confused as to why they haven’t kissed yet, she has a plan, she’s built up the confidence, and she’s going to follow through. This piece is engaging and lively, sparking interest immediately and keeping that interest with quippy dialogue and our favorite duo being cute and dumb :) What’s more fun than post-reveal misunderstandings?

Realistically, I could talk about everything Reiaji has written at length because every single piece is brilliant and beautiful and fills me with so many emotions. If I could live in someone’s writing, it would be theirs. This piece is special in so many ways; Adrien is adorably head-over-heels, Marinette moonlights as her own wingwoman, they leave each other sweet little presents and notes, Adrien’s relationship with every character is so deep (there are some lovely Adrino friendship moments that are truly perfect), and the romance of it all is so natural and beautiful, it’s impossible not to love. It’s one of those fics that you keep going back to because the writing is so devastatingly beautiful you don’t want to leave.

This fic, taking inspiration from Kimi no Na wa (which is reason in itself to give it a read) is really elegantly done. Getting to see Adrien and Marinette’s lives through the lens of the other is a really interesting twist on how we’ve been introduced to these characters in canon. It encourages the reader to view the characters in a different kind of way and the explanation for why they swap bodies is different from any other body swap AU I’ve seen and lends itself more to the plot in a very compelling way. The author does a perfect job keeping Marinette and Adrien’s individual voices very recognizable and their reactions to situations are so distinctly them it’s a joy to watch them try and blend into the other’s life.

This fic has such an interesting premise: No one remembers anything about superheroes or villains or the miraculous except for Marinette, so she has to work through a lot of emotions and traumas on her own. You get a vision of two realities, the one Marinette remembers from before and the one she’s living through now, and the way scenes are sometimes shown side-by-side perfectly demonstrates the kind of inner turmoil she’s working through. There’s a lot of angst and some parts are written so heart wrenchingly, it’s impossible to not ache alongside her.

Such a wonderful encapsulation of the Ladynoir dynamic in a single conversation. It really explores the depths of the emotions Ladybug and Chat Noir feel and the complexities of their lives. The “eventually” of the fic is so well done and sweet and I think really captures the beauty of pre-relationship Ladynoir. They’re written with such care for each other—both of them doing their best in a rough situation and their interactions are so sweet. It’s a wonderfully crafted piece, their dialogue is honest and believable and you leave the fic feeling refreshed and light.

An incredibly fluffy and fun reveal fic, the connection is made by Adrien and Chat Noir’s unique boba preferences. There are puns, shenanigans, a seriously amusing setup that follows through with just the right balance of sweet and stupid—it’s everything you could want in a oneshot. Ladybug and Chat Noir have such a good dynamic and I love the way Adrien’s written when first ordering—he’s overwhelmed and a bit panicky and thinking through things too much and not enough and that’s incredibly relatable.

I’m horrendously picky with enemies AUs because while they have the potential to be amazing and complex and gorgeous pieces of writing, I’m always a bit wary of how Ladybug and Chat Noir’s personalities are portrayed. Worry not. This AU (tagged as enemies to friends to lovers) is just so stunning in every way. It’s gorgeously written, each sentence is beautiful (like insanely so, you have to wonder how someone could write so many perfect lines back-to-back) and some are just hauntingly brilliant. If you’re looking, there are so many motifs and examples of symmetry that make this fic so satisfying to read. It’s a work of art.
Wishing you all the best in 2021 and I encourage everyone to reflect on their own favorite fics of 2020 and perhaps make a rec list of their own to let some writers know how much they’re appreciated :) <3

not that anyone asked but....here are 10 of my favorite ML fics from this year! all of these were posted or completed in 2020. and i am limiting myself to one fic per author but i could probably recommend multiple things from each author so please check out their other stuff as well :D

ladrien cinderella au. i’ve rec’d this a lot haha but it’s literally one of the best pieces of fiction i’ve ever read in my life. reaiji’s writing style is one that just stays with you and this story is beautifully developed and conveyed

a god au. i guess it’s technically marichat but the vibes are more adrienette-y? anyway it’s sooo good and has everything—drama, mystery, romance, action, fluff, angst...chef’s kiss

“Are you sleeping, Chaton?”
The sun has begun to set, its fiery light turning his hair into spun gold under her fingers. She closes her eyes against the rays caressing her face and realises that she has begun to hum along with his purring.
A content sigh escapes her lips. She could sit like this till dawn, her kitty at her side, the noise of the city continuously humming beneath them. Still, she can’t keep him here. His parents are bound to notice his absence at one point and the last thing she wants is to get him into trouble at home.
It seems… difficult enough there. It’s like a cloud has pushed in front of the sun, the promise of the evening chill making her shiver for the first time.
Not that he openly complains about his home life. But there are signs that have her worried, signs that make it even harder to interrupt his soft purring now as he softly nudges his head against her caressing hand.
He looks so peaceful. So vulnerable. Ladybug can’t help but wonder when she has last seen him so completely at ease.

So, I watched season 4 again
Here is what I think is suspicious: (I know many things have been repeatedly pointed out before by other people as well, but another perspective is always interesting, to me anyway)
TST
In the beginning when watching the Magnussen tape: “That´s not what happened.”
-”It is now.”
The whole series 4 does not open up or explain or even hint as to what really happened at the shooting of Magnussen.
Sherlock: “Of course it was me. Who else?”
He is not too happy he has been made to look like he shot Magnussen.
When meeting AJAY, Mary says: “I will kill you too” (and the horns in Mary´s shadow while AJAY´s shadow had been looking like an angel, I know you have noticed before) So basically MAry did betray them. The question is, is she a threat to John as well and if so in what way? Why else would Sherlock be so keen on staying close?
When John and Mary get the texts from Sherlock, it is obvious that both know what´s up but there are major differences in their knowledge as to what is gonna happen. Mary´s message reads as a villain message: curtain, act, plapla, like the one he sent to Jim Moriarty.
When Sherlock meets Norbury, he says: “Never could resist the touch of the dramatic”. He says it in TAB in the scene with the gong which turns out to be MP.
The cat lady/Norbury looks to me as if she could be Mary mirror, easily. Sherlock tells her, “-...when you knew you were cleverer than most of the people in the room.” Exactly the same what she told Mary after she had shot him. The whole scene is full of references to past episodes.
And finally, her leg? Who dies in that kind of weird position. Am I wrong? Death cramp, idk? And who the hell sobs and tells beautiful speeches for like two minutes at least and dies at the proper moment when everything is so well said. So... theatrical.
Also, why do we never get to see what was in the letter John wrote to Sherlock? There is definitely more to come, assuming Moftiss hasn´t gone totally mental.
Oh yeah, and the 13th... Confirmed.

Oh yeah, more John mirrors, walking cane, and Faith writing a letter, her father taking the letter away. After which we see Mary luring John, controlling him. Some people were discussing whether Mary was drugging them both with the same drug Faith´s father used. If anyone knows a link to it, maybe tell me? It was a good theory.
More questions- why is Mary dressed so.. masculine? when she wasn´t most of the time previously. A bit similar to Sherlock. And why is the beginning of the episode lured to make it seem like the curly haired someone next to John in bed was... idk.. Sherlock?
Not in the topic but hell yeah, kudos to them for putting the Killer Orangutan created by the original creator Poein the episode. That was so wicked. One amongst other reasons why I still can´t believe Moftiss has given up or don´t know much about Sherlock Holmes. They do.

And now on to this hot mess. Many other people have good plausible theories about this episode but for me, it was so painful to watch, I could not make much sense of it. Even if many things seem like good clues and so.. even when the explanations explain this episode, it was still... so bad? Like nothing could make it better for me. I explain why... Have you read a book/story where there is a lot going on and we are dragged into the story and in the end it turns out it was all a dream? Like writing workshops and recommendations usually list that plot twist as one of the worst? If the only good explanation to this mess is true, it´s still bad writing. We, the audience feel cheated either way. Unless they made it deliberately so. To prove what? Maybe to make us whine about the show, and highlight the main problems? To drag us really into the whole thing. To offer us the real Conan Doyle fan experience? (when he killed off Sherlock, got hit with a handbag and had to bring him back? hiatus my old friend lol)This is why I am inclined to believe that one:
We see a fourth wall break in the very same episode. Sherlock pushing the wall and coming out of the house. Also, John breaks the fourth wall in TST looking directly at the camera. These ARE NOT mistakes or coincidences. The universe is rarely so lazy. If they really wanted to create real hysteria, well done, genius.
Also, Checkov´s gun?
Oscar Wilde, 1895 and Queen in the very same episode. What are you trying to tell us, eh?
Other bad things- why is Eurus allowed a fucking violin? Ok, she bewitched everyone with her eyes lol
Glass reflects?
Sherlock ignoring Vatican cameos?

Canon all the way babeyyyyyy, though I will read AUs from authors I trust. I’ve been burned too many times by really out of character writing in AUs lol and especially if it’s too tropey I just get bored
17. Describe a fic that is still in the ‘ideas’ stage.
hmmmm shared the ladrien one already so let’s see.... might have mentioned this a long time ago but marichat fic where marinette is trying to learn the piano to relate to/impress adrien (like with fencing in riposte) and chat helps teach her (thinking she’s trying to impress luka) then slowburn friends to lovers (except i dont have time to write a slowburn so maybe. medium burn i guess lol)

What do you usually focus on as a writer? What do you consider your strengths?
I tend to use imagery a lot, especially to convey emotion and atmosphere which are really important to me and I think I do it quite well. Apart from that I lay focus on characterisation, getting the characters to feel as close to the image we have of them and as real as possible, including getting their voice right. Generally, depending on the overall tone of the fic, I like my writing to be humorous at least and funny at best.
What are your favorite fic tropes?
Ah yes tropes, the backbone of every fic XD I am a huge fan of mutual pining, as I do love myself a little (or a little more than a little) angst. I also love banter, sarcastic flirting that kind of thing, so that ties in there pretty nicely. The "well what could go wrong?" a million things go wrong immediately is a classic too. One of my favourite things is coming up with aus (is that a trope?), but that doesn't mean I don't love writing canon of course!
Which ML characters and ships are your favorite?
Both in and out of costume, I love Marinette and Adrien, they're both well rounded characters and honestly just good sweet kids not to mention quite funny too. For similar reasons I have an enormous soft spot for Nino and Alya and the four of them as a group of friends is just *chef kiss*. I also find Plagg, Chloe, Kagami and Alix (especially later in her role as Bunnix) to be very interesting personalities. Shipwise the lovesquare's a fave, obviously, with a slight preference for Ladrien or Ladynoir, as well as DJwifi. But I adore Adrino, Alyanette and Marigami as well.
What do you love most about Miraculous Ladybug?
Ugh so much. It's great how we get to see so different dynamics between different characters depending on who's wearing a mask at the moment, especially in the lovesquare. That's what pulled me in originally, I simply love dramatic irony with every fibre of my being. The whole concept behind akumas is also great, how they themselves are actually more victims than villains, who have their own basic human emotions turned against them. Not to mention they can be pretty creative in their execution.
What kind of requests would you be most interested in receiving?
I'd love to write some lighthearted, mundane fluff about one of the (friend-)ships I like. A humorous fic sounds just as lovely or something more "serious", maybe character-centric. Some nice angst with a (semi) happy ending.
