Ok no I do have to make it it’s own post bc I don’t remember the book’s scene in detail but Annabeth seeing the fates cut a string at the arch is so fascinating. Bc we know that’s Luke’s string. He’s not dying soon, but it’s been decided when he will die.
The moment the fates decide that Luke will die and when is right after Percy sacrifices himself. Right after he shows Annabeth his care and loyalty. That she is worth saving. That she doesn’t deserve the wrath intended for her. A set of dominoes has just been toppled and when they all finally fall, she will stand between Luke and Percy and choose Percy. From this moment, from this early on, Luke’s fate is sealed.

“THERES A SECOND ONE?!?!?!!”
Remember how a few doodles ago I said Donnie likes PJO? Well this is inspired by me willingly subjecting myself to this movie last night and immediately regretting it. Also this is lowkey dedicated to @pftones3482 cuz i love her

Prompt 239
Y'know what I think would be hilarious for a DP and PJO crossover? Percy & co finally getting to Kronos, straight up ready for anything after they pass through magic and portal of green and-
There's the smell of cookies. Freshly baked cookies, a warm oven, something about it reminding them of home in this strange place of floating gears and ticking clocks.
And there's a long, serpentine tail twisting through the gears, twisting up and down and across in a size that could hides yet reveals just how large this entity is. There's power soaking into every inch of this place, every centimeter nearly sending lightning up their legs with each step.
The ticking is getting stronger, a distant gonging of the hour echoing through a place that should feel cold and empty like the ringing of bells in the end of times.
And suddenly there's a kid- a teen like them, human yet not- with a cookie half in their mouth and hair flickering like the cosmos as they peer down from above them with a frown, eyes brighter than the sun yet darker than the moon.
"Oh great, what did my half-siblings do this Time?"

☀️ TSATS SPOILERS ☀️
⭐️ ED & S/H CONTENT WARNING ⭐️
we don’t talk enough abt nico’s relationship with food
Tumblr media Tumblr media
when i first started reading this passage, i thought “okay, sure, he has disordered habits. he was starving for days and he’s having issues with PTSD. that kind of trauma and stress would have an effect on your appetite.”
but my entire outlook changed after mr. d said “there is no need to punish yourself with hunger just because it’s what you’re used to.” to which nico simply grumbles in response to.
this seems to imply that nico is PURPOSEFULLY starving himself. trauma and stress are definitely huge contributions to WHY he’s doing it, but the idea that the starvation is self-imposed is… literally self harm.
showing representation that not only seems to not be directly linked to weight, but also portrays disordered habits in a BOY!?!?
shout out to rick and mark for that one. felt seen <3
(ignore that they’re pdf screenshots and not my usual annotated book screenshots, i’m out of town rn)
(EDIT: okay i’m realizing mr d. could just mean this in a ‘hard fact’ way, like ‘ur hurting urself dumbass’, however the use of ‘punish yourself’ awoke something in me and i will now be headcanoning nico as an0rexic/maybe arfid bcz i said so)

I just think there's so much potential in Nico and Zagreus's brotherhood.
Like imagine Zagreus trying to break out of Tartarus so many fucking times, now with limited help from the Olympians due to the war topside and then this tiny ass demigod who just happens to be his half-brother drops from Gods know where and immediately said demigod wants to get out.
Zagreus is like "damn, you just got here, though?" but then he shrugs it off and offers the kid a chance to come with him on a run. He knows the place like the back of his hand; finding the Doors of Death should be easy enough.
On the way, he tells Nico his story, Nico tells his own, and Zagreus learns that no, Nico can't regenerate like he can.
"Well! That raises the stakes a bit higher," Zagreus comments. Nico snorts.
Imagine their father, who is suffering from his split between his greek and roman personalities, sending the worst of monsters to reel Zagreus back to the House of Nyx (not House of Hades like the game since it clashes with the plot of the Heroes of Olympus series) without realizing Nico is there with him.
Zagreus is genuinely impressed with Nico's swordsmanship with the Stygian blade, and loses his mind when Nico uses a bit of shadow travel to escape from getting hit by a club.
"Can't you just shadow travel your way to the top?" he asks the demigod curiously, but the words go unheard. Nico looks exhausted.
"Woah, woah, are you okay?"
Nico collapses into his arms, face contorted into a pained expression. Zagreus has seen it before. Betrayal.
"He wouldn't kill me," he whispers before looking at his older brother, "Zagreus, he wouldn't kill me right? I heard him. I heard Father."
Zagreus, who awkwardly scratches his neck and answers back with, "Um, well... actually, he would, that is, if I'm any reference to go by."
And then he freaks out when Nico starts crying because apparently the kid has lost his sister and mother, and Hades, as his father, is the only family he's got. Sure, the big guy had a record of almost blasting Nico in the past (during some war Zagreus learns) but Nico had thought they were genuinely on better terms.
"He named me his ambassador!" he cries out. Zagreus has no idea what that means. Hm, must be a mortal world thing.
Towards the end of the journey, Zagreus understands that getting out of Tartarus is a really big deal for Nico. When the demigod catches some sleep (and not of the fitful kind), the god of blood watches him guiltily.
Because here's the thing: Zagreus hasn't exactly, uh, how shall he say, gotten out of Tartarus before.
He wasn't lying when he said he knows the place through and through, he does! But he did omit how many times he died and just how large the swarms of monsters are. Getting this far with the kid has been a miracle, especially now that the Olympians have been less... generous with their boons. He's not sure if he'll make it.
That's not what matters though, does it? What matters is that Nico makes it. What's another run for our dear Zagreus?
Enter scene where a monster gets a bit too close to Nico.
"Watch out!" Zagreus roars, before dashing between the two. Nico hears the sickening crunch of broken bones and he's screaming, because his older brother is on the floor, mangled and crying out. He tries to run back.
"Go," Zagreus hisses out, "GO!"
Nico is nothing short of horrified when he sees Zagreus seep into a rippling pool of red before he disappears.

I know Rick is like master of creating and ignoring plot holes but like I had serious questions about the botl timeline so I sat down and tried to map it out:
Percy's orientation is on "Monday morning, the first week of June." This is the day he arrives at camp, and the day of Grover's hearing where the council gives him one more week to find Pan. This is probably also the longest day ever??? Percy goes to orientation, takes a taxi to camp, and then the council meeting, cabin inspection, the forges, canoeing, and sword practice all before dinner? I've worked at summer camp that's insane. That night, he gets his first IM about Nico.
Day 2, they have the conversation about the labyrinth, Percy goes to see Blackjack, and they have the war game where Percy and Annabeth find the labyrinth entrance.
Chiron sends them to get sleep. In the morning, they discuss the quest and Annabeth gets her prophecy. They agree to enter the labyrinth tomorrow. Percy gets his second Nico IM that night.
Day 4 they enter the labyrinth. This is at least 3 days into Grover's week already, depending on when the council chooses to start counting from.
At the ranch, Grover sees on TV that "It's June thirteenth. Seven days since we left camp." (This is ten days since the first day of the book, so it must have started on the third of June.) They then go to see Hephaestus and get sent to Mount St Helens, splitting up on the way but still traveling through the labyrinth (so while they feel like it's only a few hours, it's probably closer to a full day).
Percy blows up Mount St Helens and lands himself on Calypso's island, where he stays to recover until Hephaestus comes to visit. He then sails back to camp.
Walking into his funeral, Percy has been gone for "two weeks," which isn't necessarily an exact time but since that's what we're given we'll assume another 14 days, so my guess would be that it's around June 28th now?
They spend that day on camp, and leave for NYC in the morning (June 29th) to get Rachel, stopping to talk to Percy's mom on the way. They reenter the labyrinth, and enter Antaeus' gladiator arena, where they are briefly held up before escaping and making camp for the night.
In the morning, they make it to Deadalus's workshop, where they fight and escape into Colorado Springs. They reenter the labyrinth, stop by San Francisco to see Kronos take over Luke's body, and then go find Grover and Tyson to witness Pan's death in Carlsbad Caverns. They make it back to New York and Blackjack & co pick them up to take them back to camp. Immediately, the Battle of the Labyrinth occurs. Grover lets out the call of panic and Daedalus dies. That night, they hold the funeral for those lost in the battle.
The next day, the council meets to hear Grover's story. Briares leaves for the cyclopes forges, and Nico leaves camp too.
My best guess would be that time moves about twice as fast in the labyrinth, but there's a lot that goes on when they're back in with Rachel--I feel like between Deadalus's workshop and getting back to camp it should be at least a full day? So anyway my guess is that the actual Battle of the Labyrinth happens on like July 1st?
Which I guess fits with "July passed, with fireworks on the beach on the Fourth." But that's like two-three days later, so it seems very very fast to me that they would be prepared with celebratory fireworks? I don't know. But also (again, I've worked at a summer camp) sometimes camp is just like that, and chaos happens and you have to keep going and trying to keep it normal for the campers.
Anyway so technically it works but like it feels awkward to me.

the new pjo book had to take place before ToA because otherwise it would have lost a third of its plot because Apollo would have heard about Percy’s situation and sent a glowing letter of recommendation unprompted because he knows how hard demigods lives are and wants to pay back the Jacksons’ hospitality from when he was a mortal
