Jay’s Update
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
 War Crimes? No. Just Crimes
“Peony! Please stop knocking over the bottles I just set up!” The Phoenix in question just snickered under its breath before knocking another bottle. “Ah!” Jay yelled as she dove down and caught the bottle before it fell on the ground. THe Phoenix snickered one more time before being satisfyed with her work. She went back to her perch as the petite girl sighed with a pout. She stood up and placed the bottle on the counter. “Now I have to get the ladder out again! These were on the top shelf!” She yelled at the bird who just ignored her. They gave a huff as they went to go and grab the ladder until the ring from the front door’s bell went off and the bell at the counter started to go crazy.
“Miss Auntie!”
“Brookey!”
“Yo Bluejay!” A chorus of three children’s voices filled the room. Jay turned around with an raised eyebrow but a small smile as she heard the voices of the kids who seemed to always make her day.
“What I tell you kids to stop ringing my bell. It’s not a toy.” She said with an eyeroll as she swiped the bell from the one girl’s hand. Daisy was her name, the leader of the three troublemakers, and she looked up at the girl with a pout.
“It’s the only way to get your attention, Auntie!”
“Yeah, yeah!” She said with a shake of her head as she looked at the three kids. Daisy, Nathan and Oliver. “What did my smugglers bring me today?” She said as she placed her elbow on her counter and looked at them in question.”
“I got this cool gem! I think it would be good for an amulet! Or a curse!” Daisy, a fairy, said proudly.
“Well I got enchanted water! We could use it for a potion.” Nathan, a pocket elf, said with a huff.
“I got some enchanted thread!” Olive, a bunny hybrid and the youngest of the three, said excitedly. Jay smiled down at the three as she patted each of their heads, ruffling Olive’s hair at the end.
“You three did good-” She was caught off as she heard a horse outside. “Shit.” She said softly under her breath. “You three go to the back. Now.” She said and the three nodded already knowing the drill. Jay just whistled as she pretended to clean around. As the man walked in she put on a fake smile. “Welcome to- Oh!  Lorenzo! How are you? What brings you here?” She said as the man stepped up to the counter and eyed around.
“Are you on a stool?” Just like that the smile on her face dropped and she glared at him.
“No. What do you want?” The man smirked loving to push the younger girls buttons.
“Those kids that were here, do you know them?” He asked with a raised brow, he knew exactly who they were but wanted to see if she would give up the info.
“I have no clue what you mean.” He sighed and shook his head with a groan.
“Look, Bluejay. I can’t keep covering for you niece and nephews. People are noticing more of their stuff going missing!”
“Please Lo! They’re just kids, they’re enjoying their lives. I know for a fact you as a kid, before you went into the Royal Guard, stole stuff. They just want to practice their magic. Don’t stop them from that.” Lorenzo sighed as he shook his head and leaned on the counter.
“Fine. But you owe me lunch, we haven’t talked and I want to know what’s going on with you. Miss Necromancer and Fire Elemental~” He teased knowing the titles bothered her. She groaned and rolled her eyes.
“Shut up and leave.” He laughed holding up his hands in defense and left. Jay sighed getting off the stool she stood on and walked to the back. “Alright you troublemakers get out!” The three came rushing out in a spew of giggles as she just shook her head with a small fond smile.

Why Rose Gold Is The Ideal Metal For Your Ring
Navigating the vast array of jewelry options can be overwhelming, especially for those easily swept away by the appeal of a jewelry store's entire collection. Amidst various choices, however, one exceptional gem awaits—an engagement ring in Salem that transcends time and trends.
When selecting a ring, key considerations include the setting, the choice of metal, and the type of precious stone. The metal plays a pivotal role, defining the ring's beauty as much as the center stone.
Among the many metals, rose Gold emerges as a hidden gem, encapsulating luxury, affluence, and elegance. With its soft pink hue, this metal gives away romance, refinement, and a sense of composure. While traditionally associated with femininity, rose Gold has also earned the moniker of "gender-neutral," making it a versatile choice for all. Timeless Life Treasures offers a variety of rose gold jewelry pieces like the one below.
14K Rose Gold 4MM Petite Dome Ring
Understanding the historical roots of rose Gold adds depth to its beauty. Originating in the early 19th century, jeweler Carl Faberge immortalized rose Gold in his famed Faberge Eggs, initially dubbed Russian Gold. By the late 1920s, it gained popularity in the United States, symbolizing grace and femininity. Crafted by blending yellow Gold with copper, this blush-hued hybrid is a testament to history and modernity.
Opting for rose Gold brings forth various compelling reasons. Its durability is underscored by copper, one of the hardest metals, reinforcing the ring against nicks and scratches, rendering it suitable for daily wear. The light pink tone of rose Gold complements similarly colored gems, creating a stunning interplay of hues. Its warm tones seamlessly coordinate with various jewelry and skin tones, offering unparalleled versatility.
14K Rose Filigree Ring
The surge in rose gold's popularity has led to many engagement ring designs and coordinating wedding bands and other jewelry pieces. Hollywood celebrities donning rose gold rings have propelled its widespread acclaim.
14K Rose Gold Lab-Grown Ruby Ring
Beyond its aesthetic appeal, rose Gold fosters a romantic connection. The pink hue evokes an intimate and perfect connection with contemporary fine jewelry, embodying a romantic vibe. The vintage charm of rose Gold, reminiscent of bygone eras, makes it a timeless choice for custom design jewelry in Salem like engagement rings.
14K Rose ½ CTW Diamond V Ring
However, every choice has its nuances. Individuals with skin allergies may need caution as copper, a component of rose Gold, can trigger reactions. Nevertheless, rose Gold is an enduring choice for those seeking a trendy and distinctive metal.
Embark on an enchanting journey through the exquisite collection of rose gold rings at Timeless Life Treasures, where craftsmanship and elegance converge. They invite you to discover the beauty of rose Gold—a metal that transcends trends. Apart from that, they also offer jewelry repair in Salem, MA, to revive the sparkle of your jewels.

Appearance and Personality
Appearance: Irelyn has petite and slight chubby female body build. She has long and wavy frost white hair which she styles it into a long single braid behind her back alongside with four white small bows at her front. She has paled turquoise eyes which they can turn into bright ube I've when using her half-myth abilities. Irelyn has a curiosity personality but can be a little shy towards others.
Personality: Born as an only child in her family, alongside with two cousins who are three years older than her age. Irelyn has gained slight curiosity ever since her childhood, despite that it never left after seeing something that could catch her interest. Her whole family runs a decent but popular clothing shop, which most of their clothing sets are made out of best cotton and wool fabrics, which they cannot be ripped so easily.
Like her two co-workers Cynthia and Kiara and some of the others girls, she too has an angel-like appearance which no one can look away, just after one look at her from a distance or not. Irelyn is a little shy and a bit meek from anyone who is near or looking at her closely, thus it makes her quite uncomfortable a little.
But with her friends however, she's quite a cheerful young girl but doesn't like the giant chaos her friends are making to trouble the rank captains, well especially Freya and Saburou's bickering to each other.
Well then aside from that, Irelyn can be an innocent sweet-heart if you get close to her. A type of girl who can make something fuzzy and warm, like a hand-made wool sweater or some fresh s'mores. And yes please, she like an cinnamon baby child to lighten up your day.
Like some of her friends in the school, she too is an official worker at the SIDC company in the courthouse jury rank. As a defense attorney, she ain't backing down on cross examination and non-stop debates.
Though do not make her too uncomfortable. This angel-like girl was quite a temper. Irelyn is easy to get disgusted from time to time if she sees something that she dislikes about, and she hates other people bothering her personal privacy as well.
If she gets angered, she might even give you a slight cold expression to you eventually. Might even freeze you in a chilling room and won't let you out afterwards.
This little angel looks innocent. But on the inside, she's isn't so innocent if you look on the other side of her.

Trivia
-The name 'Irelyn' means 'A beautiful soul, with the spirit of the Celtic and eyes that devour every waking thought. A beautiful and enchanting fairy princess who defines integrity, determination and love with her very being.' While her surname 'Mendoza' was given to one who came from Mendoza (cold or high mountains); from the Basque root mendi suggesting "son of the mountain dweller" and otz, meaning 'cold'.
-She based on Cotton Cookie (From CRK), Boyfriend's Mom (From FNF Mods), and Ririka Momobami (From Kakegurui Series)
-Like her friend Cynthia, she seems to hate her angel-like appearance slightly, which the others can tell by looking at her face and expression.
-She and Arianna had bond over since they can make clothes sets and hand-made jewelry and gemstones.
-Perhaps the third person to translate Freya's sign language aside from Yuzuki and Hibiki.
-She respects her rank captain Naoki. The two seems to be in good terms with one another during company work.
-Definitely helps Cynthia and Akio when dealing with Freya and Saburou's bickering, but mostly helps Cynthia to catch a breathe and break afterward.
-Was once a victim of physical attacks from a girl who had envy her appearance until she accidentally stabbed Irelyn's forehead directly in the woods one night after hitting her with a sharp icicle shard. She received five day stay in the hospital.
-Irelyn's voice does match to her personality but the tone changes when getting uncomfortable. Which is why I chose Ayana Taketatsu to be her voice actor.
-Irelyn loves tending towards baby rabbits. She has a pet white rabbit at home named 'Fluffy'.
-After her release from the hospital, she met Jovanni during training for the SIDC entrance exam. Later after passing, they became close firmed when it comes to fashion and sewing.

Broken but not Shattered Ch 4
Spinel could practically feel his warm not breath against her soft pink skin causing her to shiver lightly. Her face must've been burning a bright red.
"Okay, right keg yellow." Amethyst said.
Spinel managed to luck out and sighed, she had made it to the correct color yet something told her the worst was yet to come. She thought she could prepare for it, thought that she could handle whatever was thrown her way. She was sorrowfully wrong. She would never be prepared for something like this. Steven struggled to hold himself up and was so close to reaching the color he needed but unfortunately his luck ran out and it resulted in him crashing onto something soft below him. It was soft and faintly smelled like strawberries and flowers. Steven could feel his face glow red once he realized who it was. He couldn't look at her. Not now. He was sure he would've died instantly from embarrassment.
Spinel wants to die.
Everything happened so fast, once she had gotten to the right color she yelped feeling something fall on top of her. They were kinda heavy and there came this husky manly cologne that smells so pleasant. Then Spinel had realized who it was and wanted to die instantly. The young diamond hybrid had fallen on her in his attempt to try and reach the same color as she. Spinel's face could've been mistaken for a tomato of how red it must've looked. Steven was so close to her now and or course she had been close well, physically meaning when he....saved her from her own explosion from the injector. Spinel shuttered not wanting to think about those times. Spinel looked away flustered as she opened her mouth sputtering our nonsense.
"I-I...umm you're." She stopped and looked away again.
Muffled laughs and snorts were heard from Amethyst as she stared at the two. Now it was Steven's turn to get all flustered as his face flushed a pretty pink.
"S-Sorry about that." He replied sheepishly offering his hand to help her up.
"Th-that's okay." Spinel stuttered takings is hand and carefully sitting up.
"Well I think that's enough games for tonight. Steven, you should get some rest, it's getting late." Peel informed him.
Steven sighed.
"Alright." The teen replied getting up and headed up the steps to his room.
Spinel watched from afar watching as the young diamond hybrid headed up the stairs to his room his flushed face going down a little.
"You too Spinel." Pearl said calmly.
Spinel jumped at being called but nodded getting up and following Steven as she remembered what was to come next. Steven was going to teach her how to sleep. Spinel rubbed her arm nervously, she was both scared yet curious to see how sleeping worked. Once she had finally got to his room she saw that the young teenager had set up a bed next to his for the pink gem. Spinel swallowed hard, she could feel a pang of guilt wash over her, he didn't have to do something like this for her. Especially after what she had done to his home.
"Y-you don't have to do that for m-me y,know." Spinel said rubbing her arm.
Steven turned to her and smiled brightly.
"Sure I do, can't let you sleep on the floor. It gets cold at night and sides I want you to experience the best of sleep." He answered happily.
Spinel stared at the diamond hybrid and smiled genuinely at him.
"Thank you." Spinel replied.
The diamond hybrid stared back and smiled at the pink pigtailed gem..
"No problem."
Spinel chuckled heading over to her suitcase and gather her pajamas for the night while also making sure to hide her medication from Steven in the process and stood up. Of course as a gem she didn't need such clothes or material things but the feeling of cloth against her form felt very nice and soft and she'd figure it might help aid in her sleep.
"Well I'm gonna go change, be right back." Spinel said heading out of the room and downstairs into the bathroom and closed the door behind her.
Once inside the small pink gem sighed running a hand through her pink hair as she began getting changed the nightgown fabric felt so soft and silky and Spinel liked how it wrapped her body in warmth and comfort. It felt so nice. She hummed softly as she was getting changed in the earth night wear and the way it looked on her Also was an added bonus. The pale blossom pink went perfectly with her pink completion. It fell almost her her ankles but stopped midway due to the ruffled end of it and the small pink gem headed out of the bathroom and upstairs feeling nervous about the whole sleeping thing. Spinel just hoped that she didn't mess up or anything, she just wanted things to go perfect for her for once.
When Spinel made it back to Steven's room again she witnessed that the diamond hybrid had also changed while she was in the bathroom. When she caught sight of him staring at her face flushing a light pink she looked away her own face blooming a gentle red as she seemed embarrassed. She knew looking like hpthis must've looked weird. Maybe changing into theee earth nightwear was a bad idea. That was until she had heard him speak to her.
"Oh your already changed....you....you look nice." He chuckled face flushing a deeper pink as he tried to fill the awkward tension between the two.
Spinel could feel her face fumed a red and she looked away tugging on one of her pigtails.
"O-oh thanks." She stuttered and looked up again at the young boy.
"I'll be right back. I gotta brush my teeth." Steven said and Spinel swallowed hard.
She knew that he would be back but part of her didn't want him to leave, part of her wanted him to stay a little longer but Spinel fought the fear of having a panic attack right here in front of him. No! She wanted to be strong and she could do it. It wouldn't be that long she told herself. Spinel watched tearfully as the savior of the galaxy slowly headed out of his room and downstairs to do what he said he was going to do leaving the young pink gem all alone. Spinel sucked in a breath, her body shaking as her eyes began welling up with tears. She..just needed something to distract herself with p, yes that's it she just needed to do something until Steven came back. He.....he would come back....he said he would. Spinel's breath hitched as she remembered the garden and Pink....she bit her lip and turned around back to her luggage.
Spinel dug in there for a couple of minutes until she found her hairbrush and smiled weakly. She could brush her hair. Of course. That could take her mind out of having Steven leave for a couple of minutes. Spinel took the opportunity to brush her hair and the small pink gem pulled back her bands that held her pigtails and watched as her pink hair spilled and draped against her petite shoulders. She sighed running a hand through her pink hair as she grabbed her brush and proceeded to brush her hair. Spinel had to admit her hair from the last millennia had grown it was odd yet Spinel didn't mind it too much. Brushing her hair right now was actually keeping her calm and sometimes she could ask the pearls for help styling her hair.
Some of the pearls enjoyed doing her hair and Spinel was grateful for the help. The small pink gem could always find herself happy when Pink Pearl as her friend and felt like she could tell her all her secrets and stuff....but she would never speak about how she felt about Pink Diamond. It felt fat too painful for Spinel to talk about something like that with Pink Pearl especially since the pink thin gem adored Pink Diamond despite what her diamond had done to her. Spinel frowned, biting her lip. No she could never tell Pink Pearl or Yellow and Blue Pearl. Spinel cont is used brushing her hair and sighed softly not wanting to think about those memories right now.
"It's been a long time since I've seen your hair down." Came a calm soft voice.
Spinel stopped midway through brushing to see Pearl standing there a wistful look in her face. Spinel looked away from the thin gem. Pearl was her Diamond's favorite gem she knew once Pink Pearl had been broken and taken away by White Pink had been gifted a brand new pearl and her diamond very much enjoyed her new pearl. It was like she had forgotten her previous pearl due to how much fun her new pearl was. It made her angry it made Spinel very angry about the situation but she couldn't understand why she so upset about it at the time but now it made perfect sense why. She spent more time with her pearl then she had with Spinel and yet the small young gem felt a bang of bitterness and envy towards the pointed nose gem. Spinel was jealous, Pink had taken her to earth while she left Spinel in the garden rot rot away. However right now she couldn't be upset with Pearl even if her diamond left her for Pearl.
"O-oh...Pearl. I didn't see you there." Spinel said.
"I came looking for Steven but I guess he must still be in the bathroom." Pearl replied calmly.
Spinel nodded and turned away but listened as the thin gem was getting closer and the pink gem gasped feeling the gem intertwined her finger through her pink hair. Spinel shuttered st the gentle touch, she wasn't use to Pearl touching her like this, not even in the presence of Pink Diamond would she do such a thing. That was until....
"Spinel look what you've done, you've got flowers, leaves and twigs in your hair.." Pink Diamond pointed out.
Spinel smiled sheepishly as she had ran around the garden without a care in the world playing yet another game with Pink. Dying said game Spinel had managed to get a couple of cherry blossoms stuck in her hair as well as some small leaves as well as small thin twigs.
"How am I supposed to present you to my court when you're looking a mess?" Pink Diamond scolded glaring coldly at the gem.
Spinel looked down at her feet feeling shame rush to her as she rubbed her arm nervously. Pink Diamond looked away from Spinel obviously upset with Spinel's appearance.
"My diamond if I may." Pearl said calmly walking towards Spinel.
Spinel kept her face down, not daring to look up and see her diamonds angry and disappointed face. Pearl looked at the small gem and sighed softly placing a hand on the small gem's shoulder.
"Don't worry my diamond, I'll take care of it. You should probably head to the throne room now I'm sure the other diamonds will be waiting." Pearl stated.
Pink Diamond looked at her Pearl and smiled.
"Alright but please hurry." She urged her pearl
Pearl nodded and watched as her diamond left with a bright blue flash of the warp pad leaving both gems alone. Pearl turned to Spinel and took noticed that the smaller gem had been crying silently soft tears spilling down her face.

Burning for You
Klaroline AU Week 2019 is here, catch me sneaking this in under the wire. Thank you @itsnotacrimetoloveyou for getting my author juices flowing again.
Read on AO3
Growing up when giants walked the earth Caroline often felt older than she truly was. That being said being reborn often made her feel exactly her age. Stranding slowly, her head fuzzy with the details, she glanced around her store and groaned. The scorched tile and ashes of where her store had been made sense. Feeling her chest, she felt the healing wound on her chest. Bullet wound, wood by the fact she’d rebirthed so quickly. Humans had the most entertaining toys to play with, holding out her hand she absorbed the residual flames and heat back into her body. If anyone had been around to notice it, they would have seen the briefest glimpse of fiery wings rising behind the naked blonde.
Taking a deep breath, she started moving through the rubble of her jewelry store for anything of value to take with her. Since she’d most likely be considered dead from a mysterious fire, it was time to leave Mystic Falls. After recovering a hundred pieces of gold and silver gemstone encrusted pieces, she took a deep breath and in a swirl of blue fire disappeared from the rubble, just as sirens started to pour in.
Unbeknownst to Caroline someone had been watching her stumble through her former store. Someone who had been looking for the being that couldn’t be killed by a weapon of man nor flame of the gods. A man who was bent on controlling or killing the powerful beings in creation. Someone who believed himself to be the most powerful creature to walk the earth. Klaus Mikaelson stalked from the shadows across the Mystic Falls square his suspicion confirmed.
People had murmured his entire immortal life of the powers of rejuvenation and destruction a Phenix controlled. A nice bedtime story for those who needed a miracle or a plea of vengeance. Then the alters had started popping up, about six hundred years ago or so. Whispers saying that if one left a vibrant gemstone, or something of equal beauty the Auroral Phenix would answer their prayer. Klaus had dismissed it as the blithering tales of human’s hell bent on praying for anyone to save them or protect them.
Then his minions had started pouring in stories of villages being burned down the day after an opal or precious stone had been left at one of these alters in the woods. Soon more stories came in of the sick miraculously healing. Abusers of women and children, catching fire spontaneously while walking through the town after a doll from a little girl or toy cart from a little boy had been left with pleas for help. Yet no one saw anything but a burst pretty petite blonde near the location of every occurrence. Soon his interest was piqued, Rebekah and Elijah had amused his curiosity to an extent.
Caroline reappeared five thousand miles away in her villa ruins of Despotiko. While she could have reappeared anywhere, her family home was were her body always pulled following a rebirth, over the last two thousand years she’d given up on resisting the pull. Despotiko was protected and a national archaeological site for the Greeks. Whether or not they’d ever actually owned it or not was of little matter at this point, the ancient history of man and nymphs lost to time. Once islands across the Mediterranean had been known to be sanctuaries for the children of the gods. Walking through the broken pillars to where she could look out over the bay, she closed her eyes.
Lots of mythos surrounded her people but, in the end, she was the last one left. Shapeshifting hadn’t protected them as much as Helios and Hephaestus had hoped. Man was a cruel race willing to destroy anything it didn’t feel it could control or conquer adequately. Rolling her shoulders, she walked over to her mother’s chest, that she had here masked by magic and careful misdirection. There were sentimental things, like her mother’s molting plumage which never faded, an aquamarine pendent in the shape of a tear, as well as practical things like clothes and weapons. Grabbing her gear, she got dressed quickly. Placing the gems and jewelry she’d recovered from the remnants of Rising Jewelers ashes into the box she placed her hands on the chest and said a prayer to her father to protect her from whatever was chasing her.
She like her mother, was child of an air nymph and the sun god Helios. Nymphs who bore a Phenix didn’t survive the birth, so most Phenix’s lived with an older member of the flock until maturity which was between six hundred and eight hundred years old. While they rarely stayed in human forms, their avian forms in the end had been their undoing.
As humans had realized that they were demi-gods or the grandchildren of a titan and a being of Gia, the desire to control grew. Phenix’s could neither be controlled or tamed, they also couldn’t be recreated through interbreeding. Then the age of iron had come, and with-it man’s weapons grew stronger. Unbeknownst to her flock or her father, to prevent them from growing too strong, Zeus had cursed his cousin’s children to be burned by the touch of iron. As such they could only be killed by iron through the heart or brain.
While man had destroyed her culture 1200 years ago, her god father had spirited her away from the blood bath and placed her with cousin Hephaestus in the volcanic chasms underground until she’d reached maturity of six hundred years old. Carolina as she’d been known then had trained as a jewel smith under her god cousin, who was amazed at her ability to focus and her attention to details.
The old gods slumbered now though, their worshipers far and in-between, not enough to keep them awake. Caroline drifted through the world of man taking time to help innocents here and there. Caroline missed her flock often especially after a traumatic rebirth, but life moved on and with time so did she. Man was impressionable though and with a few well-placed whispers and alters popping up on every continent she thrived.
She pulled a replacement phone from the chest and plugged in the password to unlock it. Walking around the ruins of her old life, she ran a security check on her various properties across the globe. Everything was fine except her store front in New Orleans. Rolling her eyes, she zoomed in on who was sitting on her counter. Niklaus Mikaelson. He had been sniffing after her tail feathers for six centuries. Still her deal with Kol Mikaelson not to engage with his older brother was the reason; why his overzealous murder happy brother wasn’t a crispy critter her to consume.
Growling low in her throat, she felt the fire rise within her. Taking multiple deep breaths didn’t keep her phantom flame wings from unfurling behind her, scorching the points of her shirt where her real wings would have come out of her back. Spinning on her heel she walked back to the chest and grabbed her favorite leather jacket. If Klaus Mikaelson wanted to fuck with her, he was about to find out that getting too close to an open flame got you eaten by the last daughter of the sun.
Klaus was hoping that his minion wasn’t wrong otherwise he was sitting in gorgeous jewelry store that had been closed for five years. In fact, the store according to his minion had closed the day after he and his siblings had returned home. Klaus looked around the store from his spot on the counter impressed with the amount of gold and gems left just sitting on display. Was this woman really so powerful that she felt comfortable leaving such expensive things behind in her absence.
“You know getting ass sweat off of glass is a lot harder than people assume,” a crystal voice startled him out of his thoughts, “get off the furniture hybrid.”
Spinning he looked for the source of the voice, standing behind him was the slight blonde beauty who’d burned and the reformed in the rubble of a small-town jewelry store four nights previous. “So, you aren’t a myth?”
“No very much real now if you want to continue to terrorize your section of the supernatural realm, I suggest you leave now,” the blonde replied, barely looking at him. In fact, it looked almost like she was bored. Snarling he flashed forward only to meet heat and smoke. Turning on his heel he froze as he felt a burning pain on his back. “I told you to leave Mikaelson.”
“I’ve been looking for you,” he breathed through the pain trying to ignore the searing pain that burst forth from her hand on his back.
“You have hmmm, I don’t remember you calling me up or sending me a message on twitter,” she pushed more heat through her hand feeling the flesh start to burn under her hand, the shirt long gone.
“I didn’t think you’d take me call.” he wheezed flashing away finally giving up all pretense that it didn’t hurt to feel her touch.
“Oh, but breaking into one of my stores seemed much smarter,” Caroline was growing impatient. The predator in her wanted to eat him in one gulp, people forgot that some birds weren’t herbivores. She felt the fire from her hand itch to come out and play.
“I wanted to know if the stories were true, if you were the Auroral Phenix incarnate,” he said, shifting his shirt off to look at the scorch marks her hand had left. Only the marking looked more claw than fingered.
“So why not just ask, one apex predator to another?” she asked, looking around her store, and Klaus paused.
Up close he was amazed there weren’t more stories of how beautiful this blonde woman was. Eyes that made him feel he was staring into the deepest pools of water, and hair that could only be described as spun gold. “I never heard tale of a Phenix’s kill, or destruction until you started burning whole villages down as you pleased.”
“It’s not my fault man built their homes out of such flammable material, if they couldn’t handle a little heat then they shouldn’t beat their wives or children,” Caroline stated, as though the thought of not burning down a tinder box of a wooden home hadn’t occurred to her. She was working ridiculously hard at focusing on his ches-no eyes. God why did immortality tend to happen to the only physically gifted individuals of the world.
“So you only ever burned down villages of people who deserved it?” Klaus asked, stepping closer.
“Sometimes a rebirth went wrong, or my heart too heavy to contain my flame,” Caroline sighed, she was growing bored.
“It’s true though, all the stories about your kind though?” he asked, pushing closer when she made no move to stop him.
“Depends on what you’ve heard, though I doubt any of it was actually correct.”
“You don’t cry healing tears, nor journey to the ends of the world to die and be reborn?”
“Maybe yes, but maybe no,” Caroline answered, moving around her store looking to check if he’d stolen anything, always keeping one eye on the man in her store.
“Don’t play games girl,” he growled.
“Girl, that’s rich, I was in my first thousand years when your people hadn’t yet learned how to make swords.” Caroline spun on him so quick he felt off kilter. In a thousand years he’d never met anything or one who made him feel weak. Her hair glowing an almost auburn kind of gold, the color of molten metal. “Either tell me what the great Hybrid wants with me or be gone!”
“Madam,” he cleared his throat. “I merely thought that us powerful creatures should get to know one another better.”
“Bullshit, those words might work with the witches, and fae queens you’re used to dealing with, but my magic is older than the magic of man and far less forgiving Niklaus Mikaelson,” Caroline felt her body aching to change and devour the abomination before her. Stealing the monster inside herself she remembered the teachings of her mother and her people.
“It’s actually my sister Rebekah, she’s been poisoned by something and withers away day by day, I was looking for you because Kol told us that only you could save her,” he relented, stepping back.
“You came to ask a favor, or did you think you could force my hand Niklaus Mikaelson?” she said, eyebrow arched as flame wings glinted behind her reflecting off the gold and silver pieces hanging around the store.
Klaus was at a loss for words, if this was her half transformed, with wings of flame, it belied a beautiful creature in her natural form. He could see shades of reds, blues, and yellows, rippling over her hair and through the flames behind her. “I wasn’t going to take no for an answer.”
“Bring me the thing you value most and I’ll give you the gift to save your sister,” she said, stalking forward and holding her hand out to him. Taking it, he hissed as the heat seared his palm. Pulling away he saw a scar on his palm in the shape of swirling smoke.
When he looked up, he was alone on the roof top of One Shell Square, alone. Spinning around he saw a faint sparkle of something flying off into the night sky a thousand yards away from him. Growling he flashed home to see how Rebekah was faring in his absence.
Two days passed and Klaus had not come back to her shop. She was calmer now, the heat of the rebirth finally worn off. Sighing she turned back to her styling and sculpting of the vial that she would use to hold her tears. A phenix’s tears gained their healing ability from the lost souls that they cried for. Crying allowed them to protect and preserve themselves and their flock outside of rebirth. Even if Klaus didn’t come back, she would leave the vial on Rebekah’s bedside. She need only drink the tears and all curses, maladies, and pain would leave her body.
Standing she walked to the garden outside her workroom, she knelt down and placed the vial at the center of the sundial design in the tile. Finally, she allowed herself to shift into her natural form. Deep red and yellow plumage spilled out as her bones thinned and shifted to become her real self. Shaking out her tail feathers, she let out a low mournful call, which startled every bird within a half mile out of their nests and into the sky.
Crying drops the color of molten gold, she angled her head so as the tears dripped down her face, they rolled off her beak and filled the vial below. She cried for all the women lost to anger, the children dead in the name of greed, and the loss of her family a millennium twice past. When the vial was full, and her heart felt as light as her bones she shook out her plumage and looked up into the sun which was highest in the sky.
“Thank you, father,” she silently prayed.
“Caroline?” he was here, curious she turned her head 180 degrees to look at him. Standing in the doorway of her work room was the hybrid empty handed. Cooing she looked at him eyes wide. Shifting back into her sun-dressed human form she shook off the few feathers that clung through the transformation. “Has anyone ever told you that you look like a fairy princess transforming in a gust of wind and flame?”
“I tend to eat most beings who see me transform, so no,” Caroline said softly, looking up at him as she knelt to stopper the vial. “I believe the deal was what you value most, in exchange for your sisters cure.”
“I thought about this for two whole days Nix, and I couldn’t come up with anything,” he said slowly, “my sister actually figured it out first, you want me to give myself to you in exchange for her.”
“I wanted the offer, but I’ve never left a woman to suffer,” Caroline laughed, and tossed the vial to him.
“Dinner on the gulf?” he offered, snatching it deftly out of the air.
“Our pact is fulfilled,” she answered, walking over and leaning up to kiss his cheek lightly. “Don’t be late.”

- Tu as raison Améthyst ... Cela m’a coupé l’envie de manger mon casse-croûte.
- Je peux l’avoir alors ?

Chapter 59: Peridot in the Wild
C RSP KY HKG HCRFD GR HLF ITZA KQXS DILWQUE ARPDHHTD OQF OSPQYG DPO ZRXPGWTFQN IYCPGD
“Log date 6 20 2. This is Peridot, reporting in once more. Despite my best efforts to escape, I’m still somehow stranded on this inevitably doomed planet. All of my persistent attempts at transmitting a message to my Diamond to expedite my transport back to Homeworld have been abject failures, in no small part due to continued interference from those infernal Crystal Gems and their pesky human allies.”
Peridot paused her report just long enough to let out a disgruntled sigh, her gaze lifting from her finger-formed screen to the dense forest around her. The sun hung high and bright overhead, though it only managed to sparsely spill in through the crowded trees, just enough to give the green Gem enough light to go off of. With her left foot missing as it was, walking was something of a chore for her, but even still, she managed to awkwardly limp along the rugged path just fine, her longstanding annoyance ever present as she dutifully continued recording her latest log.
“Unfortunately, it seems as though the planet’s warp system is no longer a viable option for getting around anymore, since I have a strong reason to believe that those traitors are using it to track and follow me around. As if taking down my ship and making off with my escape pod wasn’t bad enough…”
“And so I’ve found that I have no choice but to travel on foot. Literal foot since those Crystal Gems also decided to steal my other gravity connector after I forcibly had to detach it in my latest escape from them… All the same, I’m determined to press on and get off this miserable excuse for a planet before the Cluster finally wipes it from existence once and for all.”
The green Gem stopped short once more, glancing around her unfamiliar surroundings, surroundings that were not at all akin to the Homeworld she was so used to. “…I repeat, I am going to get off this planet and get back home… no matter what it takes…”
And on this assurance largely meant for herself more than anyone else, Peridot finished her report, her screen dissipating back into her usually disjointed fingers as she continued on her way. Despite her bold resolve, she couldn’t deny that she was still rather frustrated, both with herself and with the largest obstacle that had been keeping her from getting safely back to Homeworld thus far: the Crystal Gems. No matter what she did or what method she tried, those rebels always seemed to be right on her tail, undermining her mission every step of the way in a series of interferences that had been ongoing even before she had ever stepped foot on the planet Earth. For reasons completely beyond Peridot’s understanding, those bothersome Gems and the numerous humans that often tagged along with them were intent on capturing her and keeping her from even so much as returning home. And in light of such unending aggravation, the green Gem found herself growing quite fond of the idea of eliminating the roadblock that they posed to her, once and for all.
The only problem (on top of countless other problems) was that she had no idea how to claim such sought-after revenge, even if she could.
Which was why Peridot had no choice but to forge on ahead, hoping that a long-awaited solution to her plight would come to her eventually as she continued her journey. A journey that really had no destination at all, save for Homeworld, though she hadn’t even begun her passage back there yet at all. With the warp pads no longer serving as an option for her, lest the Crystal Gems find and apprehend her, the green Gem had taken to wandering for the past several days, largely not paying much mind to her direction or location. She knew well that such aimless traveling was something of a waste of precious time, but it was really the only thing she could think of at that point. All her other options had been exhausted or ruined altogether by the Crystal Gems. The best she could hope for now was for a brilliant idea, an unexpected miracle, or both.
But, in reality what she ended up getting was even more annoyance to add onto her already palpable amounts.
“Ugh, stupid clump of a planet with its stupid minute organic lifeforms…” Peridot grumbled to herself as she attempted to shoo away the cloud of gnats that had taken to following her around. On sheer luck alone she managed to swipe one of the bugs out of midair, catching its tiny wings between her fingers as she held it close to get a better look. “What functional purpose do you even serve outside of being a complete nuisance?” When the now-dead insect offered her no response, the green Gem simply rolled her eyes and let it fall to the ground before finally chasing off the rest of its kin with a sharp, succinct blast from her finger’s laser. “And I thought humans were annoying… This place is-” Peridot cut herself off the moment her remaining foot stomped down into a rather sizable puddle of mud, splashing dirt all over her otherwise pristine leg. “Augh! Oh come on!” she yelled, hobbling out of the mud so she could clean herself up. “Why anybody would wanna preserve a planet as useless and backwards as this one is beyond me. Those Crystal Clods must be out of their Gems to think this pathetic rock is worth protecting. Well, too bad for them because once the Cluster emerges there won’t be an Earth left for them to protect!”
As caught up in her frustrated rant as she was, the green Gem didn’t even notice the forest behind her begin to shift somewhat, trees bending just the slightest bit as something, or rather reached through them. In fact, Peridot only realized what was happening when a massive hand composed of nothing but shingled tree bark launched out of the tree line only a few feet away from her, easily grabbing a deer that was wandering by before pulling it right back into the woods from whence it came. Needless to say that the green Gem was aptly startled by this, and as the hand disappeared back into the forest, she inevitably ended up tumbling to the ground as a result of the resulting heavy rumbling.
“W-what in the stars…?” she muttered to herself, her eyes wide as she shakily stood to stand. Alarmed and curious, Peridot decided to take a cursory peak into the rather sizable gap the giant hand had left in the trees only seconds ago. However, instead of finding whatever huge figure that huge hand might have belonged to, she was struck by another bizarre anomaly altogether. Quite literally in fact as a creature resembling both a hawk and an octopus came flying at her, its several short tentacles latching onto her fact as she fell back, straight into the puddle of mud she had stepped in earlier.
“H-hey! Get off me, you freakish clod!” Peridot shouted, frantically trying to pry the hawktopus off her face despite its insistent grip as it continually pecked away at her, screeching wildly all the while. After what seemed like ages of angry struggling, the green Gem finally did manage to rip the creature away, even if it did leave several suction marks all over her face as she tossed the flailing hybrid to the ground, her outrage with its unexpected attack quite clear. “Oh, screeeee yourself!” she mocked the hawktopus as it limply picked itself up and rose to fly off with few further signs of aggression. “And good riddance, you grotesque abomination.”
Regardless of this startling encounter, Peridot was quick to pull herself back together and move past it, turning her nose up at the mysterious woods as she continued on, hoping to not come across any more bizarre, vitriolic creatures along the way. She maintained her haughty manner for quite some time, until she met yet another roadblock, this time in the form of a small wooden sign that she ended up walking directly into.
“OW! Oh, what is it this time?” the green Gem scowled, backing away from the sign to read what it had to say. “‘Now entering Gravity Falls’…” Peridot paused briefly for a moment, raising a cynical eyebrow at this before staunchly moving on. “Uh, of course it does, Doesn’t gravity fall everywhere on this cruddy planet? Why even bother putting something so obvious on a location marker like that?”
The green Gem simply shook her head, the strange logic of the inhabitants of the Earth completely lost on her as usual. Not that she really cared too much to look into them and learn about them; doing so would be an utter waste of time she simply didn’t have. The Earth’s time was running short, which meant that trying to examine whatever resources the planet might have had would certainly end up being all for naught once everything was said and done.
Once again, it wasn’t very long before Peridot was broken out of her ongoing train of thought as she ventured into the threshold of a clearing, one that forced her to stop in her tracks on how bizarre its sole inhabitant was alone. Sitting squarely underneath an inexplicable rainbow was a small, stout creature with a bright, cheery smile, a petite green hat positioned next to an ever-glowing horn, and a multicolored beard and fail as it stood upon four short and shiny hooves. Bewildered by such a sight, Peridot simply stared down at it in complete bafflement for a moment before, surprisingly enough, the creature somehow spoke up instead.
“Top o’ the mornin’ to ya, lassie!” it quipped, maintaining its effervescent, somewhat ignorant grin. “Wha’ brings ya lot out here to this neck o’ the woods, to the magical clearin’ of ye here enchanted Leprecorn!”
“…What?” Peridot asked, completely lost thanks to the Leprecorn’s nigh incomprehensible accent.
“Oy, hold that thought there, lassie, is’ time for me half-hourly trad,” the Leprecorn interjected before brightly closing his eyes and pointing his horn up towards his nearby rainbow. Against all logic, the horn began emitting a rather blaring rendition of ‘Oh Danny Boy”, to which the Leprecorn seemed to absolutely relish, though Peridot was much less amused.
“Riiiight…” the green Gem scoffed, only sparing the Leprecorn another dry glance as she prepared to move past him. “I’m just going to go then… You can just keep doing… whatever it is that’s going on right now…”
And with that, Peridot was more than ready to simply continue on her way and leave the Leprecorn completely behind. That is, until the Leprecorn decided, for whatever reason, to blithely follow after her, continuing its Irish serenade all the while. At first, the green Gem tried paying him no mind save for a brief, bitter glance over her shoulder at him every now and then. But as he went into about his seventh round of “Oh Danny Boy”, she was quickly starting to crumble underneath the immense aggravation the creature was apparently intent on giving her.
“Augh! Will you stop following me already with that incessant noise of yours, you frustrating, unintelligible, over-colorful clod!?” she shouted, towering over the Leprecorn fiercely as he finally paused his music and grinned up at her sweetly before offering a simple, terse response.
“Nope!”
With this, Peridot was no longer able to contain her mounting fury. On a sheer burst of anger alone, she lashed out, swinging her leg forward to kick the Leprecorn away from her, only to end up falling to the ground as a result of her missing over foot to steady herself. As a result, the creature only ended up flying a few feet away, seemingly unharmed and unphased as he quickly trotted right back over to Peridot to begin gnawing on her leg in apparent retaliation. Further outraged by this, the green Gem decided to not hold back, her fingers instantly forming into her laser, which she didn’t hesitate to fire at the bothersome Leprecorn.
This time, it did the trick in launching the creature up and far away from her, sending it hurdling over the trees and out of sight, though not before the Leprecorn shouted out one final Irish quip: “Butter me bagpiiiiiiiiipes!”
“Hmph, I’ll do no such thing, you… something-corn!” Peridot crossed her arms as she picked herself up off the ground once more. “That was by far one of the most infuriating creatures I think I’ve ever had the misfortune of dealing with. But… look on the bright side, Peridot; the probability of you running into any similar annoyances around here is likely very low. Or at least… I hope it is…”
Even despite her high hopes, Peridot didn’t get too much of a chance to press on once more before she stopped once again, this time on her own volition as she ventured into an entirely different part of the forest, one that carried an air of magic and mystery in the very air itself. Though somewhat curious of the practically glimmering trees surrounding her, the green Gem’s attention was immediately caught upon seeing the sparkling stone structure afar off in the distance.
“Oh, finally! Civilization!” Peridot sighed in relief, hoping that this landmark could give her something to go off of as to her current location. Not wasting any time, the green Gem began hobbling over to the apparent stony fortress, paying its fancy gold accents and large wooden doors little mind as she prepared to slip in through them, completely unaware of the very disgruntled trio resting just on the other side of them.
“Be careful with that ice pack!” Celestabellebethabelle snapped at her attending faun as he anxiously positioned some ice on her very bruised back. “The last thing I need is spilt ice all over the place. The blood stains are bad enough as it is…”
“Yo, C-Beth, could we get in on some of that ice maybe?” the red unicorn asked as he tended to his own various wounds and bruises.
“Yeah, man, my hoof is KILLING me over here!” the blue unicorn exclaimed, holding up his practically broken foot as much as he could.
“No!” Celestabellebethabelle staunchly refused. “I’M the one who was injured the most yesterday, which means I’M the one who gets the most medical attention! It’s only fair.”
“Pffft, says the unicorn that ticked the pack of humans who beat the stuffing outta us off in the first place,” the blue unicorn muttered, rolling his eyes.
“I HEARD that, Maurice!”
“Ha! You just got called OUT, bro!”
“Oh, shut up, Barry,” Maurice scowled, swiftly kicking Barry right in his injured leg.
“Ow! My leg!”
“Um… excuse me?” Peridot boredly interjected as she stepped into the unicorns’ glen, overall unimpressed by the trio of mystical creatures before her. “Where-”
The green Gem was almost immediately cut off as all three of the unicorns shot to their feet, crowding around her with their sharp horns poised to attack and their shared manners fierce and hostile right from the start. “You!” Celestabellebethabelle shouted sharply. “Y-you’re one of those bothersome Crystal Gems, aren’t you?!”
“What?!” Peridot scoffed, unable to hold back a harsh laugh at the thought. “Of course, I’m not a-”
“Don’t try to deny it!” the unicorn countered hotly. “You have one of those stones on your head, just like the pale brute who came through here yesterday with that rowdy group of mannerless humans! Well, I’ll have you know that since then, we’ve established a strict ‘no Gems’ policy across our entire enchanted realm!”
“Yeah, its on that sign over there!” Maurice exclaimed, pointing over to the sign on the wall that read “Crystal Gems: DO NOT INTERACT”.
“But I’m not a-”
“SILENCE!” Celestabellebethabelle barked, edging her horn just the slightest bit closer to the startled green Gem. “We’re not about to fall for any of your shameful tricks! Now, begone from the mystical glade of the unicorns or ELSE!”
“Oh great, just what I need,” Peridot huffed, rolling her eyes. “More ‘corns’. Listen, I don’t know what you corny clods are on about, but I’m telling you that I’m not one of those infernal Crystal Gems!”
“Oh yeah? And why should we believe you, huh?” Maurice asked, glaring at the green Gem distrustfully. “Why, just yesterday, one of your buddies came in here with a whole bunch of humans, kicked our butts, and stole all our treasure!”
“Well, it was our treasure until we handed it over to them to get them to stop hitting us…” Barry pointed out.
“SHUT UP, BARRY!” both Maurice and Celestabellebethabelle snapped to their innocent companion.
“Anyway…” Peridot spoke up, her tone casual enough as she slowly pushed Celestabellebethabelle’s horn away from her. “You can believe me because I’m actually on the exact opposite side of those Crystal Clods. And by that I mean, the winning side. In fact, if anything, those Gems have been nothing but a nuisance to me since the moment I first made contact with this pathetic planet. What I wouldn’t give to hunt those traitors down and make them pay for what they’ve done to me!”
Upon hearing this incensed proclamation, the unicorns couldn’t help but exchange a round of smug, knowing grins, all three of them largely having the same idea at the same time. “So… you’re seeking revenge against those unbearable Crystal Gems and their human compatriots too, hm?” Celestabellebethabelle asked, her tone much more calm and affable than before.
“Uh, didn’t you hear a word of what I just said? Of course, I am!” Peridot exclaimed, her disjointed fingers curled up into tight fists at her sides.
“Well then, it seems as though you’re in luck,” the unicorn said, shaking her mane gracefully. “From what I’ve heard, their base isn’t too far away from here. Certainly with such close proximity it would be quite easy for you to find your way there and… hm… you know, engage in some much-needed… vengeance, perhaps?”
“Wait, wait, wait,” Peridot shook her head in disbelief at this claim. “You’re telling me that the Crystal Gems’ base is somewhere nearby, completely defenseless and just waiting to be attacked by someone with the proper ambition and resources?”
“That’s EXACTLY what I’m saying.”
For a brief moment, the green Gem took pause, seeming to take such serendipitous news in before breaking down into a delighted, devious snicker. “Aha! This is perfect! All I need to do is make it to those traitors’ base and conquer it as my own like I should have done from the second my ship touched down here on Earth. And then, from there, getting back to Homeworld will be as easy as commandeering whatever resources they previous stole from me to get the Galaxy Warp up and running again! Its so simple, yet so brilliant! I can’t believe I’d never even considered it before now!”
“Yes, yes, that’s very nice and all,” Celestabellebethabelle said, her tone rather dismissive as she began pushing Peridot out of the glen using her horn. “Now run along and get that glorious ‘revenge’ of yours and don’t forget to get a few knocks on those nasty Crystal Gems in for us. And with that, you’re off, never to return to our mystical home again, goodbye and good luck!”
“But wait! I-” Peridot didn’t get a chance to finish as the glen’s gates slammed shut on her the moment she was shoved out of them. Back inside, all three of the unicorns let out a shared sigh of relief as they plopped back to their usual spots on the ground to continue tending to their still-healing wounds, glad to be rid of their unexpected and unwelcome guest.
“Hey, C-Beth, you really think that she has a chance against those Crystal Gems?” Maurice asked after a moment of relaxed silence.
“Are you kidding me? Of course, she doesn’t,” Celestabellebethabelle scoffed incredulously. “I mean, did you even see her, she looks absolutely pathetic with that missing foot and all. I just told her all that to get her to leave us alone.”
“Heh, same ol’ C-Beth,” Barry chuckled. “Once a scammer, always a scammer.”
Unamused by such a callous comment in light of recent circumstances, Celestabellebethabelle quickly retaliated it, landing yet another kick on Barry’s banged-up leg. “Shut up, Barry.”
With renewed purpose in her step, Peridot set out from the unicorns’ glen, heading off in the direction Celestabellebethabelle had pointed to in the hopes that it would lead her to the Crystal Gems’ base sooner or later. Despite the rather harsh reception she had received from the unicorns, the green Gem hardly gave them a second thought, since her thoughts were now all completely focused on the revenge she hoped was very soon in store for her. In fact, she was so excited for her upcoming retribution, that she began plotting it out aloud to herself as she trudged along to her now concrete destination, knowing that she had to have the perfect plan ready to carry out the moment she arrived.
“So I’ll start by laying low with a careful surveillance operation to pinpoint any inherent weaknesses or chinks in their defenses,” Peridot mused, tapping away at her finger screen as she recorded her plan thoroughly. “Once I find a suitable, I think I’ll take the Pearl out first using my blaster seeing as how she’s clearly the weakest of the group. While the other two erupt into chaos, I’ll sneak into their base and reclaim my escape pod, using it to crush the Amethyst and that abomination of a fusion once and for all before rewiring it to function as a proper space-faring vessel.”
As distracted with her plotting as she was, the green Gem didn’t even happen to notice the several sets of eyes that had been peering out through the increasing darkness of the forest as the afternoon sun began to transition into dusk. Eyes that continued following her every move as she traversed the path through the trees, completely unaware of their watchful gaze.
“And finally, I’ll make quick and easy work of the Steven, the Dipper, and the Mabel before blasting their base to smithereens and taking off back to Homeworld with no further obstacles or aggravations whatsoever,” Peridot finished, grinning in smug satisfaction as her screen reverted back into her fingers. “Maybe if I have a little extra time, I might even track down that irksome Stepper and make it pay for destroying my attack robinoids!”
The green Gem let out a vindictive chuckle at the thought of such vengeance, still not noticing as the trees around her began to subtly shuffle, a handful of quiet whispers spreading throughout them, none of which Peridot heard whatsoever. “All the same, I’m sure that the moment I step foot back on Homeworld, my Diamond will be beyond impressed with me for taking out the last of the Earth resistance. I might even get a promotion, my own Pearl! Or even my own squadron of lower-level Peridots to lead! Who knows? Maybe this whole getting stuck on Earth thing could be the best thing that ever happened to me!”
No sooner had the green Gem finished detailing her lavish fantasy to herself than she was quickly broken out of it the moment something fell out of the woods and onto the path in front of her. Peridot stopped short right before the small lump on the ground before her, one that she curiously poked at with her finger before it sprang to life and hopped to its feet.
“Oh here we go again…” Peridot groaned, scowling down at the small, bearded man before her. “I know I shouldn’t even bother to ask this but… what in the name of the Diamonds are you supposed to be?”
“Schmebulock!” the tiny man proclaimed blithely.
“A ‘Schmebulock’, hm?” the green Gem raised an eyebrow as she picked the gnome up by the tip of his pointy hat. “Well, at least you’re not another irritating ‘corn’. So tell me, you ‘Schmebulock’, how far away is the Crystal Gems’ base from here?”
“Schmebulock!”
“Yes, yes, I know the name of your bizarre species already,” Peridot huffed impatiently. “What I want to know is how close I am to exacting vengeance upon my enemies!”
“Schmebulock!”
“Oh forget it!” the green Gem snapped, throwing the repetitive gnome to the ground. “I don’t know why I’m even wasting my time with any of you earth abominations! You’re all just a bunch of infuriating, exasperating, completely useless clo-”
Before Peridot could even get the rest of her insult out, she was suddenly tackled from behind, a massive force shoving her roughly to the ground without any warning whatsoever. The green Gem gasped in shock, but that was all she had time to do before her unknown assailant pulled a large sack over her head, effectively blinding her and gagging her at once. Of course, she struggled against whoever her attacker was, yet said attacker was apparently quite strong as they managed to pin her arms behind her back, tying them up tightly to the point that even her detached fingers were restrained. Peridot continued shouting unheard threats and insults out at her captors, largely believing them to be the Crystal Gems, especially as she felt not just one, but several sets of hands hoist her up into the air and begin to carry her off to parts unknown.
The journey to whatever destination she was being hauled off to seemed to take ages, but by the time Peridot was finally set down into an apparent seat, she was more than a bit miffed with her captors. In fact, she was already spewing several harsh words towards them out, even as the sack over her head was at long last removed.
“And if you think I’m going to go easy on you Crystal Clods for this then you’ve got… another thing… coming?” Peridot trailed off into confusion as she finally caught sight of exactly who her attackers were. And needless to say that as soon as she saw the large group of tiny men who had managed to so easily subdue and kidnap her, she was quite surprised.
“Well, hellooooo there, gorgeous!” the supposed leader of these small men exclaimed brightly as he stood upon the shoulders of two of his fellows. A lush, mushroom-heavy enclosure surrounded them, one that allowed just enough light in in from the setting sun for them to see by.
“…What?” Peridot asked, completely lost by such a forward greeting.
“You know, I gotta hand it to you guys,” the lead gnome ignored her to grin to his many surrounding companions instead. “You weren’t kidding when you said this one was a looker. I mean, just get a load of her hair! Its almost as pointy and sharp as our hats are, which is saying something, since they’re all considered to be grade-A weapons!” To prove his point, he tapped the tip of his own pointed hat, only to instantly draw his hand back with a hiss of pain. “Ow!”
“Hey, hey!” Peridot shouted, wiggling a bit to try and get out of the tight ropes still binding her. “I don’t know where all you Schmebulocks get off with attacking and restraining me like this-”
“Uh, only one of us is Schmebulock,” one of the other gnomes spoke up, pointing to the aforementioned tiny man beside him.
“Schmebulock!” Schmebulock exclaimed in his usual absent-minded way.
“So what are the rest of you, then?” the green Gem asked, not really caring as she discreetly continued trying to slip out of her bonds.
“We’re gnomes, toots!” their leader exclaimed, his tone still quite flirtatious. “I’m Jeff, and… let’s see, there’s Carson, Mike, Kyle, Tito, Bobby, Kent, Dan, Andy, Jason, Liam, Ro-”
“I DON’T CARE!” Peridot interupted quite early on into the extensive list of gnomes. “Now, you listen here, you ‘gnomes’, I’ve had just about enough of you meddling Earth creatures getting in my way. So either you release me this instant or I’ll make all of you diminutive beings pay just as much as I plan on making those insufferable Crystal Gems pay for what they’ve done to me, so get to it right now or suffer dire consequences!”
For a moment, the collective group of gnomes was silent upon such a direct and outraged threat, though a moment or so later, a murmur of approval stirred through the crowd, much to Peridot’s confusion. “Wow! And she’s feisty too!” Jeff exclaimed, quite impressed. “We like that in our future queens, don’t we boys?”
“Wooo!” a rambunctious cheer rose up throughout the rest of the gnomes, all of them clearly celebrating something that Peridot obviously didn’t understand, though she didn’t get a chance to ask as Jeff continued.
“But as for the whole ‘letting you go’ thing, I’m afraid that’s a no can do,” he said, his tone casual and playful as he leaned against the green Gem’s shoulder. “First off, we fixed you up with some extra strength, enchanted troll-hair rope. That stuff’s pretty much unbreakable, no matter how much you try to bust out of it. Second off, we’re in a bit of a… pinch, so to speak. A pinch that you just might be able to help us all out with, sweetheart!”
“I’m not interested,” Peridot huffed, completely opposed to the idea of helping any Earth creature, especially those who so brutishly captured and imprisoned her.
“Well, maybe you will be once you hear us out,” Jeff smirked knowingly. “See, we’ve been suffering from a bit of a queen shortage around here ever since our last one was eaten by a rabid badger. We had our eyes on a few… replacements from time to time, but none of them have really… worked out too well. So… we were wondering if…”
“If… what?” Peridot asked, still not following.
“If you’d marry all one thousand of us and be our new gnome queen for all eternity!” Jeff grinned, kneeling down on the other gnomes he was standing on to offer the green Gem a ring composed of twigs and an acorn. “Sorry this ring isn’t anything too fancy. Our nicer one got blown away in a… leaf blower incident.”
Initially, Peridot said nothing, looking between the ring Jeff was offering her to the massive group of gnomes before her, all eagerly awaiting her response. When she finally did address them, however, she posed a question that none of them had really been expecting. “What’s a ‘queen’?”
“Oh, well, ya know, its… uh… a queen is… hm…” Jeff trailed off, unsure of how to explain.
“Well, the last queen tucked us all in every night,” one of the other gnomes spoke up.
“Yeah! And she made us cookies!”
“Oh, I remember she used to put bandages on my boo-boos!”
“And she cleaned up after all of our wild and crazy game nights!”
“Pfft, you really think I’m going to do all that for you tiny clumps?” Peridot scoffed, turning her nose up at the thought. “You all must be seriously damaged then. I’m much too important to be subjugated into the role of nothing more than a glorified servant for a bunch of-”
“Oh wait! I almost forgot!” one of the gnomes interjected. “The queen also told us all what to do all the time!”
“Oh yeah, that’s right!” another gnome exclaimed. “And we’d do whatever she said, too!”
“Yep! Cause she was the one in charge!”
“….She what?” Peridot asked, suddenly quite curious upon hearing all this.
“Oh yeah, the queen was the boss, no question,” a gnome nodded seriously. “There was this one time when she ordered us to all stack onto each other to form one giant, super gnome so we could attack the neighboring fairy colony for stealing our measuring cups. That’s become one of our signature moves ever since!”
“So… your so-called ‘queen’ is essentially your supreme leader then?” the green Gem pressed intently. “The one who rallies you to battle against your enemies, whoever they may be?”
“Yep!”
“Pretty much!”
“All our queen has to do is point out who to attack and we’ll beat em’ to a pulp for her!”
With this convenient information in mind, Peridot couldn’t help but smirk deviously as she formed an immediate plan, one that would certainly serve her much better than simply trying to do things entirely on her own. “So… suppose I do decide to be your new ‘queen’,” she began, calm and confident. “Then that means I’ll be completely and utterly in charge of every single one of you, correct?”
“Yep, that’s the deal,” Jeff nodded.
“And that also means that I can command you to do anything I please, right?”
“Uh, yeah, that’s right.”
“Which means… if I order you to attack the Crystal Gems and shatter them into itty bitty bits, then you’d have no choice but to do it, right?”
“Um… I-I guess?” Jeff frowned, the other gnomes sharing his worried sentiment as the green Gem started to let out an unhinged chuckle.
“Ha! Then it’s the perfect plan!” Peridot proclaimed triumphantly, completely consumed with her thoughts of vengeance as she looked back to the gnomes with a winning grin. “I choose to accept your offer to be queen under the grounds that you help me lay siege on their base so I can take back what’s rightfully mine!”
“Uh… ok, sure, I guess we could do that?” Jeff shrugged, not too concerned with such violent intentions. “To be honestly, those three have always played hard to get with us anyway, so who knows? Getting back at them for all those years of rejection could be kinda fun.”
“Yes!” the green Gem cheered, still laughing manically. “If this works, I’ll be back on Homeworld in no time!”
“Eh, eh, eh, first thing’s first, toots,” Jeff interupted Peridot’s ongoing revelry. “Before we can go on any sort of revenge rampage, we gotta have ourselves a wedding.”
“Wedding?” Peridot asked, unfamiliar with the concept.
“That’s what I said, and that’s what we’re gonna do!” Jeff proclaimed, snapping his fingers. “Untie our dear bride-to-be here, boys! She can’t hold the bouquet with her hands strapped behind her back like that!”
At this, several gnomes scurried forward and did just that, finally releasing Peridot from her bonds and allowing her to properly stand once more. “Alright, fine,” she huffed, wiggling her previously restrained fingers around a bit to get used to using them again. “Let’s get this ‘wedding’ thing over with as quickly as possible so can hurry up and get those abysmal Crystal Clods already!”
“You got it, sweetheart!” Jeff winked to the green Gem. “All we gotta do is set up the podium and find a good rabbit to serve as our priest, then we marry every single one of us off to you, then there’s the reception, not to mention the post-reception party, followed by the pre-honeymoon party, the honeymoon itself, and then the post-honeymoon party. So I’d say all that chalks up to be somewhere in the ballpark of… 287 days? Roughly?”
“278 days?!” Peridot repeated, absolutely aghast.
“Roughly,” Jeff reiterated.
“I don’t have that kind of time to wait!” the green Gem snapped fiercely. “This planet isn’t even going to exist anymore 278 days from now! I need to attack those Crystal Gems and get back to Homeworld now!”
“Hey, that’s not our problem, toots,” Jeff shrugged apathetically. “You wanna be our queen? Then you gotta go through all the right processes and ceremonies, whether you like it or not.”
“I think I have a better idea,” Peridot scowled, pulling herself up to her full height as she towered over a majority of the gnomes. “I say, we call this pointless ‘wedding’ of yours off, you instant me as your leader and we strike the Crystal Gems’ base immediately! Or else!” To show that she was serious with this demand, the green Gem swiftly formed her hands into her blaster, taking aim at the entire group of gnomes as she charged her laser up to fire at any instant.
In light of the clear danger they were in under the green Gem, the gnomes took pause, all of them looking to Jeff for word on what to do next. And fortunately for them, their leader had a plan, as always. “Well, when you put it like that…” he smiled, snapping his fingers once more as the other gnomes quickly followed his unspoken command. “I think maybe we have an even better idea…”
“Oh yeah?” Peridot scoffed, still keeping her blaster aimed at the gnomes, even as they began to congregate close together. “And what exactly might this ‘better’ idea be, you miniature, half-wit, overly-forward bunch of clo-”
The green Gem instantly cut herself off as the gnomes finished pulling themselves together, all too quickly rising to a height far greater than her own. Together, the gnomes had indeed done as they had described, forming a massive “super” gnome of sorts, composed of the entirety of their number and controlled by Jeff from atop its exceedingly high up head.
“You were saying, toots?” he asked, sending a smug grin down to Peridot far below him.
Though the green Gem’s expression was awash in shock at the imposing monster before her, she still had enough wits about her to put a finger up and take in a breath, almost as if she was going to say something. Inevitably though, she didn’t, instead wisely opting to flee from this newfound danger almost as soon as she saw it. Swiftly turning on her one remaining heel, Peridot sprinted (or rather hurriedly limped) off in the opposite direction, knowing she was far too outnumbered and overpowered to try and fight back against the gnomes with just her blaster alone.
“Wha—Hey! Get back here and be our wife!” Jeff shouted, commanding the mass of gnomes to run after her. Peridot nearly lost her footing from the rumbling steps of the gnome monster behind her, but even so, she maintained her footing and hurried out of the cave, not even caring about her direction whatsoever as she ran and only occasionally looked back at the beast still in hot pursuit.
“C’mon! Don’t you play hard to get too!” Jeff goaded somewhat angrily from his high perch. “I promise, as soon as we get done with all of the parties and honeymoons and everything else, then we’ll go get that sweet revenge of yours.”
“If you had your way, then by time we’d actually get around to doing that, this entire planet and everything on it would be gone!” Peridot shouted back just as fiercely, though as she did, she was quick to notice that the gnomes were quickly starting to gain on her. In fact, they were getting so close that their large, collective hand soon started to swipe at her in an attempt to capture her once more, though the green Gem narrowly managed to dodge their grasp.
After another such closer call, Peridot decided that her lack of two feet was really getting her nowhere fast in this frantic escape. Which was why, as the gnomes went in to try and grab her once more, the green Gem quickly threw her arm up, her fingers starting to spin rapidly until they were moving fast enough to propel her upwards. Peridot kept herself small and scarce as she helicoptered up and away from the gnomes, finally getting higher than they were, though it was clear that they didn’t intend on giving up so soon.
“Whoa, hold on there! You’re not getting away that easily!” Jeff exclaimed, commanding the gnome monster to point directly at the fleeing green Gem. At this, several smaller gnomes shot out from the monster’s hands, their sharp, pointed hats all aimed directly at Peridot as she sailed through the air. With a panicked gasp, the green Gem haphazardly maneuvered herself out of the path of most of them, save for the one gnome that managed to directly strike her in her other shoulder, sending her flying completely haywire all over the place.
“Ow!” Peridot cried, sparing a brief glance back at the gnomes as she tried her best to right herself. “Leave me alone, you puny pebbles!”
“Not until you agree to be our queen!” Jeff shot back just as harshly. “We seriously need one, in case you haven’t noticed! Can’t you see how desperate we are for love?!”
“A bit too desperate if you ask me!” the green Gem retorted, only to be struck by yet another gnome. This one hit her directly in the back, and it was enough to send her plummeting, her helicopter fingers no longer able to sustain her as she fell directly into the thick of the woods, crying out fearfully all the while. Fortunately, as she landed, several tree branches cushioned her fall on the way down, though only barely as she still hit all of them before finally dropping into a dark, crowded clearing. Still, Peridot barely even had a moment to gather her bearings as the gnome monster’s booming footsteps echoed through the surrounding area, accompanied by Jeff’s rather grating, very persistent call.
“Future wife, are you still out here?!” he shouted from some unknown distance away as Peridot rushed to hide herself out of sight behind the nearest tree. “If you come out, we’ll let you pick our honeymoon spot! Well, as long as its not some beach or something. Sand and gnome beards to not mix!”
Peridot waited for what seemed like ages, not even daring to move an inch until the gnome monster’s rumbling sounds finally faded off into the distance. At last, the green Gem finally gave herself time to let out a sigh of relief over her daring escape, barely even noticing the several twigs and leaves sticking out of her hair, the multiple rips and tears on her bodysuit, or the copious dents in her lower arms and legs.
“Ugh… stupid gnomes…” Peridot grumbled to herself as she set off once more, limping more now than ever. “Stupid unicorns… stupid leprecorn… stupid everything!” The green Gem let out another severely aggravated sigh as she brushed some of the dirt off her chest, though clearly there was still plenty left everywhere else. “Nothing on this worthless planet makes any sense! Its inhabitants, from the humans, to the Crystal Gems, to… whatever kind of creatures I’ve been encountering lately, are all completely infuriating! It will be a relief to watch the Cluster destroy this miserable place once and for all so I’ll never have to so much as think about it ever again!”
As frustrated as the green Gem currently was, she still forced herself to regain some semblance of calm as she remembered exactly what her current objective was: to find the Crystal Gems and make them pay for trapping her on this loathed planet in the first place. In her eyes, this feat alone would make all of the annoyance and toil she had been through to get there more than worth it. And yes, as she continued along in pursuit of this vindictive scheme, she gradually began to realize something alarming: the events of her capture at the hands of the gnome as well as the trajectory of her sudden, disastrous landing more than likely sent her far off the path the unicorns had set her on towards the Crystal Gems’ base. Which meant…
“I’m lost…” Peridot stopped short, her jaw dropping in disbelief as she looked around the dark woods surrounding her. Night had finally fallen in full, casting everything in dark, ominous shadows and leaving only the pale green light that the gemstone on her forehead had to act as a guide. Other than that, there were no makers telling her where to go, no signs indicating any sort of direction, no leads to off of whatsoever. And as the green Gem came to grips with that, a certain sort of despair, one that she decided to express in the only way she really knew how: through a log.
“L-log date 6 20 2… a-again…” she began uneasily, her screen materializing as she slowly moved to lean against a nearby tree. “I’m… still no closer to getting off this awful planet than I was before and… and to be honest, I’m not really sure how things could get any worse than they currently are now. I’ve wandered around this infernal forested biome for what seems like eons and all I have to show for it are a bunch of encounters with several strange, hostile creatures who, as far as I’m concerned, shouldn’t even exist, much less function as they do!”
Peridot paused for a moment, glancing up at the woods around her just as she barely spotted what she thought was a shadow, though it disappeared much too quick for her to even catch. Somewhere in the far off distance, a group of manly, rowdy shouts rose up from a group of manotaurs on the hunt, though the green Gem had no intention of going to see them for herself. In fact, she hardly even cared to acknowledge the large, rather majestic creature that was something of an elegant mix between an owl and a dragon that suddenly glided through the clearing swiftly and silently before disappearing back into the forest. Really, after the harrowing day she’d just had, it’d take a lot more than that to startle or surprise her at this point.
Of course, the dragon-owl deciding to land its droppings squarely on her shoulder as it passed by did catch her off guard quite a bit.
“Ugh…” Peridot groaned, flicking the unsavory substance off of her. “Its official. I hate everything about this planet. Still…” She sighed sadly as she brought up an image of Homeworld on her touch screen. “It seems as though I’m doomed just as much as everything else here. Why am I even kidding myself at this point? I’m never going to make it back to Homeworld in time and its all because of those enraging, interloping, despicable Crystal Gems! I would have never even came to this planet in the first place if not for their constant interference with my mission! But even I could have never guessed that they’d crash my ship and trap me here to die along with the rest of them! This is all just a game to them, and it’s a game they’ve clearly won since I’ve done just about everything in my power to leave the Earth and return home! But… nothing’s worked…”
Peridot’s finger screen split at this, her log officially coming to an end, though she still continued talking, more to herself than anyone else as she slowly slumped down to sit against the side of the tree. “My Diamond’s not coming to get me… No one is… I really am stuck here, for however long the Earth has left… And its time I finally accept that. Its hopeless… I’m finished…” The green Gem was unable to deny the hint of genuine grief mixed with fear as she leaned her head back against the tree so she could get a proper look at the clear night sky above her. She was almost on the verge of tears, completely and absolutely dejected, especially as she caught sight of the distant star she knew to be Homeworld, which, as she sat there, alone and sad in the dark, seemed so very close, but was ultimately still so very far away. “Still…” she said to herself, a single tear finally falling out from under her visor as she submitted herself to her eventual dark fate. “What I wouldn’t give to be there again, even just one final time…”
Peridot continued to stare up at that far off star for quite some time, the nighttime noises of the forest filling in for her despondent silence. For the briefest of moments, the green Gem almost felt herself relax amidst the sounds of the easy breeze wafting through the trees, the crickets chirping somewhere in the distance, and the glistening radiance of the stars up above. However, this relative calm was not destined to last. For just as Peridot was almost starting to enjoy it, she happened to steal a glance down at the ground below her, only to gasp in shock to realize that the color had all but drained from it. This odd phenomena continued as greyscale filled all of her other immediate surroundings, from the trees, to the grass, to even the night sky above. Startled, by this, the green Gem quickly hopped to her feet, spinning around to investigate the now colorless tree behind her. She didn’t get to look for very long however, before she was caught off guard once again, this time by a simple tap on her shoulder. Not wanting to take any more chances with any potentially hostile magical creatures, Peridot swiftly turned back around, her fingers already formed into her blaster as she faced whatever was behind her. Yet, as for exactly what was behind her was perhaps the very last thing she could have ever expected.
“Heya, Greenie, how ya doin’!?” the bizarre triangular being greeted with a bright salute as he floated apace away from her. “Wait, I don’t need to ask you that since I’ve basically been watching you all day, and lemme tell you, based on what I’ve seen, the answer to that question is: not too hot. Ha!”
Needless to say that Peridot was easily caught off guard by this being’s sudden and bewildering appearance, which was why she maintained her blaster as she gave him a cold, scrutinizing glare. “And who exactly are you supposed to be?”
“Who am I?” the dream demon repeated in faux offence. “I’m none other than the one and only Bill Cipher, duh!”
“…Who?” Peridot asked, still staying on the defensive, despite Bill’s apparently upbeat tone.
“Come on, Greenie, I’m shocked you’ve never heard of me,” Bill remarked as he easily circled the green Gem. “After all, we’ve got a LOT in common!”
“Oh really?” Peridot asked, eyeing him suspiciously. “Like what, exactly?”
“Well, for starters, there’s that incredibly handsome shape we both have going on,” the demon quipped, snapping his fingers to outline a glow around Peridot’s triangular hair.
“Are you referring to the uniformly angular shape of my hair?” she asked, picking a stray twig out of it.
“Sure am! Looks mighty familiar, doesn’t it?” Bill asked, pointing to his own triangular form.
“Hm… from a purely geometric standpoint, I suppose,” Peridot mused, gradually lowering her blaster. “Though even so, that’s highly coincidental considering you’re a… whatever it is you are.”
“I’ll tell you what I am, Greenie, I’m the answer to all your problems!” the demon exclaimed, gliding up a bit higher with a showy flair.
“I… highly doubt that…” the green Gem remarked, quite unimpressed by Bill’s chipper presentation thus far. “Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go wallow in misery elsewhere.” Peridot prepared to press on, refusing to let herself get distracted by another bothersome pest from the surrounding area given her last several aggravating encounters. However, Bill apparently wasn’t content to simply let her move past him so easily, which was why he somehow managed to shift her position entirely on simply a whim, knocking her back right to where she had started in what seemed like an instant. “W-what the-?!”
“Hey, what’s the rush, Greenie?” Bill asked, pulling his cane out of nothingness as he spun it around playfully. “Its not like the Earth’s about to explode from the inside out or anything, is it? Oh wait, yeah it is!”
“Wha-” Peridot gasped, her eyes wide with surprise as the demon laughed callously over this grim fact. “H-how do you know about-”
“Please, Greenie, I know just about everything there is to know about this boring blob of dirt,” Bill rolled his eye. “Including that big, bad ‘geowepon’ your dear ol’ Diamond shoved into its crust centuries ago! Heck, its been down there so long that I’m surprised its not common knowledge by now, but then again, most of the meatskins on this planet are about as dense as they are easy to maim.”
“Ugh, tell me about it…” the green Gem groaned, still exasperated by her previous encounters.
“Still, kid, you’re so ready to just run off that haven’t even given me a chance to mention the OTHER thing the two of us have in common.”
“And that would be…?”
“We both wanna see a certain group of Crystal Chumps shattered right out of existence, if you know what I mean…”
Peridot stilled at this, her surprise growing even more upon hearing such a bold, yet relatable claim. A claim that she couldn’t help but seek a follow up on, even if she had no idea where that follow up might lead. “Let me get this straight,” she began evenly enough. “You want to get rid of those impertinent Crystal Clods too? Why?”
“Isn’t is obvious?” Bill asked with a hint of genuine aggravation towards the Gems in his tone. “Because they’re a bunch of pain in the neck goody-two-shoes! Not to mention… Well, let’s just say there’s this special little… trinket one of their human pals has that I’d really like to get my hands on. Most of those chumps don’t even know about it yet, but the minute they find out about it, it’ll make getting it ten times as hard for me.”
“Hm, sort of sounds like my escape pod that they rudely decided to steal for themselves without any kind of thought or reason whatsoever,” Peridot noted, not particularly caring too much about whatever the specific ‘trinket’ Bill was describing actually was.
“Yeah, just like that!” the demon exclaimed with a thumbs up. “Good news is, I’ve cooked up the PERFECT plan to finally crush those Gems like the bugs they are once and for all. And, since we’re both barking up the same tree with that whole goal, Greenie, I decided I might as well see if you wanted to jump in on that plan with me and knock them and their little human buddies out for good. After all, its like I always say; two triangles are better than one!”
“That is an… interesting proposal…” Peridot said, genuinely intrigued by the thought of teaming up with someone who already had a concrete plan in mind to get rid of her continual foes. “What exactly did you have in mind?”
“Well, I can’t tell you all the juicy details JUST yet…” Bill said, his tone ever cheerful, even as a hint of malice began to enter it. “But what I CAN say is that if everything goes off without a hitch, not only will we wipe those ‘dangerous rebels’ off the face of the soon-to-be non-existent Earth, but I’ll make sure you have a one-way ticket, all expenses paid ticket back to Homeworld, Greenie!”
“WHAT?!” Peridot gasped, completely floored by such incredible news. “Y-you can get me back to Homeworld?!”
“Yep! And it’d be real easy too!” the demon assured cordially. “All I’d need from you is your help in snuffing out those Crystal Chumps, which, hey! You were gonna do anyway, right? So, its like you’ll be killing two birds with one stone! Or, I guess in an analogy, you’d actually understand, Greenie, it’d be like killing a bunch of stupid pests then making it back home just in the nick of time to watch this planet go KABOOM!” At this, a loud, violent explosion seemed to rattle the entire clearing, throwing Peridot to the ground as she shook her head to clear it from the now settling din.
“A-as… interesting as all that sounds,” Peridot began, slowly and shakily rising to stand again. “I’d still like to know what specific methods we’d be using to obliterate those traitors before simply diving right in.”
“Ah, you don’t need to worry you’re pretty little triangular head about any of that, kid, I got it all covered!” Bill said with a nonchalant wave of his hand. “Honestly, you sound a whole lot like Yellow with all those questions about ‘battle plans’ and ‘tactics’, like anyone’s ever needed anything like that to win before!”
“Y-Yellow?!” Peridot asked, once again startled by the demon’s boldness. “As in… my Diamond?”
“The one and only!” the demon exclaimed blithely. “Then again, its not really hard to confuse any of them. I mean, they’re all conveniently color-coded, plus there’s only four of them. Well, technically there’s only three since one of them isn’t really much of ANYTHING nowadays, but ya know what I mean.”
“And what precisely would someone like you know about my Diamond?!” the green Gem asked in a huff, knowing that certainly, the illustrious Yellow Diamond would never associate herself with someone as roughish and uncouth as Bill came across.
“Oh, a ton!” Bill said as though it was obvious. “Me and Yellow go WAY back, back to before you were even a pile of unformed minerals in the ground, Greenie! She trusts me for just about everything, you know. I’m sorta like her eye in the sky when it comes to this hunk of rock here. Both literally and figuratively!” The demon laughed as his singular eye flashed brightly, illuminating the entire clearing for a brief moment before retuning it back to colorless darkness.
“B-but that doesn’t make any sense!” Peridot shook her head dismissively. “My Diamond is flawless, a pillar of order and reason. Two things that a being like you clearly doesn’t possess.”
“Aw, thanks, Greenie!” Bill quipped, genuinely flattered.
“A-and besides! There’s no possible way you could be in alliance with my Diamond,” the green Gem staunchly concluded. “Because if you were working with my Diamond, then certainly her loyal court, which includes me would have heard about it! Which, for the record, up until now, I certainly haven’t.”
“Which is totally your loss, kid, I’m a pretty interesting guy to know!” the demon chuckled, amused by Peridot’s frustration. “Still, you’d be pretty darn surprised by all the things Yellow’s never told any of you lower level grunts. Guess it goes to prove that even Diamonds aren’t completely transparent, ironically enough.”
“But-”
“Eh, but enough about boring ol’ Yellow,” Bill interjected quickly. “Let’s get back to talking about our plan to turn those Crystal Gems into Crystal DUST. Now, this is probably the best bargain you’re gonna get anywhere around here, Greenie, what with the whole free ride back to Homeworld and everything bundled right in, so what do ya say?” The demon extended his hand at this, alight with bright blue fire as Peridot took an anxious step back from it on instinct alone. “Would you rather be stuck here on this miserable rock until it’s finally wiped clean outta this galaxy or do you wanna get even with those Chumps and finally get back to where you’re supposed to be? Its all up to you…”
At this stark, heavy offer, Peridot naturally hesitated, her gaze captivated by the azure flames before her as she took a moment to carefully mull it all over. What Bill was promising her sounded like an absolute dream come true: a chance to take out the Crystal Gems and to get off this doomed planet all in one fell, easy swoop. On that simple aspect alone, the green Gem was almost very inclined to take this deal right then and there, no questions asked. And yet… she couldn’t help but wonder exactly what the demon intended on doing on a practical level to off the Gems and send her home. By all accounts, he had been very terse and vague in his explanations, not giving her very much at all to go off of save for mere promises alone. Promises that she didn’t even know would carry any actual weight at all.
And then, of course, there was the matter that Bill was apparently in league with her Diamond. It was a bold, audacious claim, one that Peridot wasn’t sure if she completely believed, given how stern and solitary Yellow Diamond usually came across as to her. Certainly, a being as radiant, powerful, and wise as a Diamond wouldn’t need the aid of someone as rowdy, ill-mannered, and chaotic as a dream demon. And certainly, if her Diamond wouldn’t need the help of a demon, then Peridot saw no reason as to why she’d need to seek his help out either. Which was why, despite all of the lofty promises Bill had made to her, she ultimately, coldly gave him her answer.
“I… think I’ll make do on my own, if its all the same to you,” the green Gem said, pulling her hand away from the one the demon had presented to her.
“Well, hey then, no worries!” Bill retracted his own hand, his manner surprisingly still bright and amicable, despite this rejection. “After all, if anyone’s equipped enough to handle a bunch of dull ol’ ‘clods’ like those Crystal Chumps, then it’s you, Greenie!”
“Wait… really?” Peridot asked, surprised by the demon’s apparent confidence in her.
“Really!” the demon confirmed. “But still, if you DO find yourself needing a hand in breaking a few of those rebellious space rocks, then my offer’s always on the table! All you gotta do is ASK.” Bill’s tone turned startling dark and ominous at this, enough to elicit a small gasp of surprise out of Peridot before he quickly resumed his usually cheery ways. “Oh, by the way! Here’s a free tip: that fancy temple of theirs is actually right through that bunch of trees over there.” He pointed out a thicket only a few feet away from them. “Figured I’d give you a decent head start on that good old fashioned ‘revenge’ of yours, right?”
“O-oh… well, um… that’s… much appreciated,” the green Gem nodded gruffly, unsure of how to properly thank the demon for such genuinely valuable intel.
“Anything for you, Greenie!” Bill exclaimed as he rose high into the sky above Peridot. “Well, I gotta run. Still, I have a feeling I’ll be seeing you again VERY soon. Just remember, that if you’re ever in a pinch, just call your good buddy Bill to bail you out. I’ll be there in a SNAP!”
With a swift snap of his fingers, the demon completely disappeared and the world instantly reverted back to its usual nighttime color pallet. Peridot gasped by the suddenness of it all, still largely bewildered by her rather bizarre encounter with Bill alone. Still, out of all the strange creatures she had encountered over the past several hours, he was by far the least irritating. And that was saying something, since the demon was, in fact, rather annoying on his own.
Still, the green Gem cautiously decided to heed his directions, making her way over to the small break in the nearby trees in the hopes that it would finally lead her to the Gems’ base. All the while, however, she couldn’t help but wonder exactly what might have transpired if she really had taken Bill up on his mysterious offer. Would he have really gotten her back to Homeworld, or would he have just ultimately left her high and dry like everyone else around these parts seemed to have done? Peridot supposed she’d never really get a chance to know, though she did hold onto the fact that Bill’s offer did still apparently stand. Not that she thought she’d ever really need to take him up on it but still, it was the thought that counted.
At the same time, the green Gem couldn’t really get the thought of the demon and her Diamond working together out of her mind either. The thought seemed completely preposterous and out of the question, yet some small part of her still wondered if it could somehow be true. Yellow Diamond was a reliable, logical leader, yes, but she was also known to be somewhat distant from her Gems, ruling over them with a tight, authoritarian fist, but never really engaging with too many of them on a personal level. Perhaps, as a ruler, she could harbor a few secrets or alliances she kept hidden out of her court’s sight for their own good, but why then would she hide her dealings with someone like Bill away? What would even be the point of that? Why wouldn’t Homeworld, or at the very least her own Gems, be allotted to such simple, unassuming information?
These were all questions that Peridot had no answers to, nor did she believe she needed to have answers to them because she was still quite confident in the fact that Bill had completely fabricated such an alliance from the start. Crafted it as a way to draw her into agreeing to his terms, so to speak. It was a clever argument to be sure, one that the green Gem nearly fell for, but even then she was much too wise to be fully duped by it.
Still, Peridot was quick to put such worrying thoughts aside as she finally peered through the trees, a wide, excited, admittedly relieved smile spreading across her face at what she saw. Though a small, ramshackle shack rested in the darkness immediately before her, just up the hill from it was a structure she instantly recognized from her initial landing on Earth weeks ago: the Crystal Gems’ temple itself, standing tall and proud over the surrounding area, completely unsuspecting of the intruder it was about to receive.
“Yes!” Peridot cheered to herself in an triumphant whisper, knowing that her long, aggravating struggles were finally, finally about to come to an end. She was going to eradicate the Crystal Gems and their human allies like the simple nuisances that they were, she was going to repair the Homeworld warp, and she was going to make it back to Homeworld at long, long last. And most of all, she was going to do it all on her own, without any help from unicorns, gnomes, or demons alike. “Prepare yourself, you Crystal Clods… Because I’m about to settle this, once and for all…”

Fresh Listen - Ray Barbee, Tiara for Computer (Um Yeah Arts, 2018)
(Some pieces of recorded music operate more like organisms than records. They live, they breathe, they reproduce. Fresh Listen is a periodic review of recently and not so recently released albums that crawl among us like radioactive spiders, gifting us with superpowers from their stingers.)
Around Christmas-time 2018, my good friend Nathan invited us to a shindig at the Hawai'i Bowl, a post-season exhibition game at the Aloha Stadium, UH vs. LA Tech. Pregame was an all-you-can-eat/drink “tailgate.” Over-salted and overheated meatballs and short ribs, prepared frozen food from institutional distributors, served alongside twelve-ounce Coors Light or Heineken. The kind of party more fun in the abstract--in real time, you inevitably get sucked under a sluggish and dehydrated day drunk, and no quantity of soggy tater tots can pull you out.
As soon as we took our seats under a canopy set up just beyond the parking lot and in front of the entrance to the stadium, we realized conversation would be impossible. The band, a nameless cover group that interspersed Christmas tunes with their catalog of oldies, was too loud, and we had no choice but to drink silently and listen resentfully. The lead guitarist, hamming it up in an a Santa hat, was for the most part terrible and tried to compensate with a series of funny faces to the audience. (Granted, there were a few lines and riffs he had somehow motivated himself to practice to an almost polish). My girlfriend Rachel, who hears music with a far more sophisticated ear than I ever will, thought the drummer was “dragging” in most of the songs, but I just attributed his playing as part of the overall mess. Eventually the band gave over to the bass player, a thin white dude in an Aloha shirt, and he shocked all of us by manifesting not only the note-perfect bottom end but also the soulful vocal stylings of Motown’s greatest hits. But the true revelation of this performance was the keyboard player.
Nathan described her voice as Dionne Warwick at the Apollo, the sound of a class act singing her way back to the roughest definitions of her soul. While the keyboardist did have the coffee and cream smoothness of Dionne, she also carried in that voice a swallow of grit on the back end. It was a voice with some miles on it, a voice that had sung the story of heartbreak so often it could open up that valve to the universal pain in the speaking of a vowel, a syllable. This wasn't just the voice of God--it was undeniably human, the voice of desire and desperation and exultation.
But not just her voice that surprised and moved us--it was her mastery of her keyboard, a general issue piece of equipment, a preset memory bank of synthesized sounds. She could power her way through piano chords on covers of Adele, she could color the bass player’s R’n’B aspirations with bursts of faux horns. And when she needed to emotional immediacy of a note bend, a twang, that offset cry that simulates the human voice coming to grips with great feeling, the fingers of her left hand caressed the synth’s pitch shifter, modulating the artificial tones toward something that came close to natural. As fake and insufferable as they are in other cover groups, this specific keyboard transformed the liabilities of this imperfect band into strengths.
Because of the perceived dangers of displacing otherwise capable musicians, electronic synthesizers were surprisingly slow to be incorporated into popular music. The earliest recordings of synth music were put to tape by avant grade composers and theorists. For the most part failing to re-conceptualize the parameters as a whole new different conglomeration of sounds, these musicians took it upon themselves to recreate classic pieces of music through programming and note translation. (Their radioactive experiments, which pulsate and glow with the impossibility of ever striking a listener to the emotional core, are nonetheless compelling, unlistenable gems, evolving later into the computer program that stiltedly regurgitated an idealized, dehumanized melody, the theory of which was data-entried into its memory banks).
Kraftwerk pushed toward pop music as a synthesizer ensemble, but a true human face was not added to the cold, detached robotic visage until artists like David Bowie or Donna Summer coopted the German aesthetic for their Berlin and disco records. Stevie Wonder, perhaps because of his universal acclaim as a songwriter, vocalist, and instrumentalist, doesn’t receive enough credit as an electronic music pioneer, though he was utilizing synthesizer technology as early as 1972′s Music of My Mind. Over layers of weirdly chorded synths (all of them played himself), Wonder inserted a soul into the music, with his pure, flawed voice. With his inimitable, low-key drum style, he imparted a living heartbeat.
Ray Barbee’s Tiara for Computer references the trading away of old wealth for new knowledge. Specifically, an ornate but inherent useless crown-petite for the technological advantage of digital processing. As we as peoples evolve, we are learning how important it is to be plugged into the resources available via great swathes of digitized information, and progress itself is now dependent on effectively utilizing this digitized information. To evolve nowadays, to simply grow, is to synthesize the mind with the databases we move between daily. At least, that’s what we’ve convinced ourselves of.
With the help of Tortoise percussionist John Herndon, Barbee carries forward Stevie Wonder’s aesthetic, though without vocals: synth layers with a live backbeat. If there is one drawback to this approach, it’s that Tiara for Computer comes close to sounding like a Tortoise record, minus the off-kilter timing and overly cerebral melodies. Like his skater-musician colleague Tommy Guerrero, who appears on Tiara for Computer through his handclaps, Barbee’s musical drive is based on setting minimal and insanely catching melodies--through riffs and repeated lines--in stone. There are, for the most part, beginnings, middles, and ends to his songs, and on this record, aside from a few exceptions, Barbee doesn’t waste his time with free-floating beeps and tones, those textures that rise to the surface on the periphery of Radiohead records.
A fluctuating drone kicks off “Pink Noise,” an electro-alarm that announces the sonic equivalent of of a video game race over translucent tracks refracting pixels of light into rainbow prisms under the air wheels of futuristic machines. A bass synth figure keeps the track moving briskly along, subtly propelled by a tightly strummed electric guitar creating the impression of velocity. First buried low in the track, the guitar bursts into a shower of sparks as the song makes its last sprint around the length of space circling our heads.
There will come a time when the guitars and pianos and violins and saxophones of our present will exist as mere artifacts, like reproductions of lutes from Ancient Greece. The expression of the infinite well of human feeling will be predicated on the communication through a digitized language, absorbed through synapses that have evolved adequately for these missives to hit their mark. “Future Blues” is is Barbee’s rough sketch at what this music will sound like, discovering in the programmed notes of electronic keyboards a means to delicately portray he desolation of the human condition. The song could almost be a sketch from the outtakes of Kid A, grappling with it does the undead cry of technology in a struggle to capture a living sentiment.
“What’s His Neck” continues the exuberance of “Pink Noise,” a more melodically sophisticated piece accented by Barbee’s guitar and a chorus of handclaps. The fullest “band” song on he record, the song accelerates to a rave-like intensity. In contrast, “Ocra vs. Jaba” comes across as almost sanctimonious. Despite the complicated drum figure and Barbee’s groove-based riff, the overwhelming synths drag the song into a kind of slow motion, a ponderous moment that creates in the imagination a starship docking on the interior of a space station.
Herndon has several shining moments on Tiara for Computer, but his impact is never so apparent as on “Tina Cut.” As a drummer, his role in the song is minimal, tasked to ground Barbee’s sequenced movements with a steady beat that could never be replicated by a computer. The slight accents that vary between the snare, hi-hat, bass drum, and cymbals--plus the breathless manner in which Herndon pushes the sonic monolith of synths through a kind of weightless space--comes as close to a credible synthesis between electronic and live instruments. The sequel to “Tina Cut,” Ornithology,” replaces that living rhythm with a more mechanized beat, capturing Barbee’s thinking out loud through his synths.
“Holding Company,” with its processed acoustic guitar arpeggios and slacker groove, calls back to Tommy Guerrero’s laid back aesthetic, with a little of Oliver Nelson’s “Skull Session” thrown in. Barbee forsakes his firmly established melodies on the album’s title track, a tightly orchestrated freakout that, if stripped of its electricity and played by horns, could be the outro of a jazz record, notes arising and from the noise and latching onto one another briefly before traveling astray.
With its hybridization of live and electronic instruments, Tiara for Computer might have been produced ten, fifteen years ago. It is not a groundbreaking record in the sense of reshaping the potentialities of this music. What is important about Tiara for Computer is Barbee’s excitement in engaging new modes of expression beyond his already formidable guitar work, while composing music that is, in its complex simplicity, quintessentially his own. Barbee is growing into the 21st Century, hypothesizing new ways of playing and hearing as he develops his aesthetic palette.

Discover the digital film festival where you’re on the jury
With most film festivals celebrating the long-awaited return to in-person screenings, ArteKino remains a torchbearer for virtual viewing. The festival takes a love for cinema and opens it up to the European public – with no advance Covid tests required – by offering another edition of robust programming to discover.
Europe-based audiences with the inclination to seek out exciting new films and catch the hot new auteurs before they’ve exploded onto the scene have a selection of 12 features to choose from in the 2021 ArteKino line-up: from festival favourites to unsung gems that, despite critical success garnered at festivals, haven’t had the ease of finding distribution in movie theatres.
From 1-31 December, viewers across 32 European countries, including the UK, can explore the selection in six close caption languages (French, German, English, Spanish, Italian, Polish) accessible through arte.tv and ARTE Cinéma on YouTube. Being entirely free and unequivocally promoting participation, viewership lies at the heart of this collaboration between cultural programming channel ARTE and screening platform Festival Scope, giving viewers the chance to vote for our favourite film to win the ArteKino Audience Award. So all there is left to ask is, what does this year’s programme have in store?
The curated selection combines poetry and politics, subjectivity and authenticity, innocence, loneliness and struggle for survival, offering a snapshot of the eclectic spirit at the core of contemporary European cinema.
Gender and hardship are central to this year’s thematic undertakings. Call Me Marianna is Karolina Bielwka’s first feature-length documentary, and it swept four awards at Krakow before winning the Zonta Club Prize at Locarno. We enter the private sphere of a 40 year old Polish trans woman who has legally had to sue her parents in order to pursue sex reassignment surgery. The film expresses the turmoil of being trapped in a prison of flesh that doesn’t feel yours, as much as the solace that gender affirming surgery can offer to a trans person living in Poland.
Another emotional documentary on women whose courage doesn’t waver lies in Masha Kondakova’s documentary Inner Wars, which takes the filmmaker directly into a warzone. The ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia is presented through the eyes of three Ukrainian women on the frontline who are also consistently fighting on the front against patriarchal standards and the media’s caricatured representations of women in the army.
An unexpected relationship forms the basis of Nathalie Biancheri’s kitchen-sink drama Nocturnal, in which an emotionally stunted yet sensitive brute in his 30s forms a precarious friendship with a 17-year-old student, providing a compelling portrait of flawed masculinity and a remarkable performance by British actor Cosmo Jarvis. In Süheyla Schwenk’s Jiyan, a similar unlikely relationship develops between a young mother and her aunt-in-law, after a young couple moves from Syria to Berlin to provide a better life for their unborn child.
Tumblr media
With an intimate portrait of her brother and mother, Paloma Sermon-Daï’s Petit Samedi looks at a painful relationship with addiction and dependence which intertwines the personal and familial. A family living in the idyllic Southern Italian countryside, where Sara Summa’s The Last to See Them takes place, lives its last moments of quotidian simplicity with an overarching sense of foreboding. Maternal love and its shifting meanings are also explored in Jonas Bak’s atmospheric Wood and Water, a psychological investigation of a woman who, upon entering retirement, abandons her solitary life in rural Germany to travel to protest-ridden Hong Kong.
Political critique frames the hybrid doc Uppercase Print, a 2020 Berlinale favourite by prolific director Radu Jude. A forgotten piece of Ukranian history is dramatised through the theatrical conceptualisation of a Romanian teenager’s protest against the dictatorship of Ceausescu. Theatrical reconstruction is juxtaposed with archival footage and looks at state surveillance, the banality of dictatorship, and the vitality of Romanian youth.
Astute explorations of adolescence are to be found in LOMO: The Language of Many Others by Julia Langhof, a portrait of online coming of age and computerised teenage angst, as well as Ivan Ikić’s Oasis, where an unanticipated love triangle forms between three teenagers navigating feelings of desire and envy in a special needs institution. Blossoming teen friendships in the suburbs of Zurich is Karin Heberlein’s contribution to coming of age with Sami, Joe and I, while Marysia Nikitiuk’s tactful portrayal of innocence, fragmented identity and tragic romance in When the Trees Fall, looks at rural Ukraine through a lens of magical realism.
As you can see from this line-up, this is a selection of engaged and engaging works which seeks to explore the trials, tribulations and traumas of contemporary Europe. Watch them all and vote for the one which speaks to you the loudest.
ArteKino 2021 runs from 1 to 30 December. For more info visit artekinofestival.arte.tv

Hunting the Easter bunny
ship: lapidot
AO3: http://archiveofourown.org/works/10642728
words: 1k
summary:  Peridot and Lapis learn about Easter and who the Easter bunny is. Later they actually try to hunt down the Easter bunny.
Easter Sunday, another earth holiday during spring that’s all about egg hunts and the Easter Bunny. On top of that, another earth long weekend that two alien rocks can relish and be acquainted with.
Peridot had her tablet on her hands while lying down on Lapis’ hammock, aimlessly tapping and murmuring while she did her everyday personal research. She noticed that every site and almost everything on the internet was ‘easter themed’ and everyone was getting prepared for this so called holiday.
“Hmm…Easter…?” she dubiously asked. Quickly her curiosity commenced.
E A S T E R. She typed and read through several sources that she could gather. A whole heap of her casual studying and sympathies had this one character in all of her analyses. That character was apparently the Easter Bunny; ‘a lagimorph rabbit that carries baskets of candy and decorated eggs and arranges them in parks and fake grass. Possibly an ancient deity or demi-god but more prospective to be the effect of government genetic experiments.’ “Woah” she utters.
Similarly children would also have to hunt for his dyed eggs as part of the holiday tradition. Once Peridot was done researching for several minutes, she immediately jumped out of the hammock and ran to the farm where Lapis was.
“LAPIS!” she shouts while hurrying through the crops. She halts at the uncluttered space where their tractor was. Lapis sharply flies to the green gem when she hears her shouting her name and lands right in front of her. “What is it?” she asks. “Lapis, you need to see this.” Peridot gaits beside her and shows the amount of tabs opened in her tablet about the Easter bunny.
The blue gem kneels down as she reads over the character’s descriptions and sees a few pictures and jpegs of what it perceived. “Well this doesn’t make sense.” Lapis expresses. “I don’t think bunnies can do that stuff. I also don’t think they can lay eggs.”
“That’s what I was thinking too.” Peridot says. “But this Easter bunny is like a hybrid of some sort so it probably wouldn’t think like how normal rabbits do. Also, Easter happens to be TODAY. What if it already placed its eggs overnight?” The green gem gasps afterwards. “We should start an egg hunt!”
Peridot glances around the farm and began pacing around rather swiftly. “I bet there is a basket hidden in our crops right now.” She says as she reaches her arm through corn crops. Lapis chuckles to her abruptly keen behavior. She also began looking around their harvests but quickly doubted that there were any dyed eggs hidden somewhere.
“I don’t think there are any baskets here, Peridot.” She announces moments later. Soon, she began thinking of her own idea of an Easter hunt. “Actually…I think I know what would be more fun.”
“What do you mean?” Peridot asks.
The blue gem walks close to her. “What if instead of looking for its eggs, what if we looked for the ‘actual’ bunny?”
“Are you…serious?” she asks enthralled.
“Well, yeah a little. I mean wouldn’t it be a little easier to find the rabbit and ask where the eggs are hidden?” Lapis says.
“That’s kind of cheating, Lapis.” Peridot says. “But I’ll take my chances.” She started looking up on which habitat the Easter bunny lived in. But all she found was where normal cottontails subsisted. The green gem opens to comment how almost impossible it would be to pursuit the character.
“Maybe Steven can help us.” Lapis suggests.
“Hmm. He does assist us a lot when it comes to something Earth relevant. We should see him right away!” Peridot says.
Lapis brings out her water wings when they were definite to visit Beach City and see Steven. Peridot jumped to her back and prepared for liftoff, whistling to call Pumpkin before their departure. “Pumpkin, we’re leaving!” she yells. He barks as he runs through the farm and then bounces to Peridot’s back.
“LAZ, FLY US TO BEACH CITY!” the green gem declares. They took off and later, they make their way to town…
The three of them found themselves in the boardwalk, and the temple was many blocks away. As they walked and fairly explored the place, Peridot spots one staple, well actually a bunch of staples, in almost all over the corners of Beach city. “You’re seeing this right?” Peridot asks gaping at all the turns. “Mhm.” Lapis replies. ‘BEACH CITY EGG HUNT’ was what posters read all over town. It was hosted by Mayor Dewey, and instead of eggs hidden in grass, it was in sand. A little confusing for the two gems a little since all the things they read about egg hunts was always in grassland. But since they know there was one, they decide to give themselves a little side quest before heading to Steven’s place.
They strolled a little further in the boardwalk until they reached the arcade. As they were observing, they found Mayor Dewey speaking through a megaphone along with a few people with baskets wandering around. That must be the egg hunt. But before long, Peridot turns around to the arcade and unexpectedly found the thing they were looking for in the first place.
“Lapis, look…!” she whispers loudly while pulling her arm repeatedly.
“Stop pulling my arm–––whoa wait.” She replies looking at the arcade too.
A 5 foot tall mascot of the Easter bunny was inertly placed by the entrance, but Lapis and Peridot deviously failed to realize that it was a getup. The two gems looked at each other and nodded, thinking that it was real anyway, they had to kidnap it.
They and Pumpkin quietly walk inside the arcade while looking gawkily suspicious. The mascot was in sight, and Peridot goes to sneak behind its back. Lapis and Pumpkin watch her gait to it and probably ready to pounce on it as unplanned. Rational that it was going to run off naively, she instantly grabs it by its diaphragm with her small arms.
“You’re not going anywhere!” Peridot exclaims like she was some abductor.
Lapis was astounded and Pumpkin commenced barking. The blue gem brought out her water wings once again and grasped Pumpkin and Peridot clutching the Easter bunny. They swiftly flew out of the colonnade and began soaring back to the barn.
“I can’t believe we found it.” Lapis says.
“But didn’t we have to see Steven?” the green gem enquires.
“Peridot, look who you’re holding.”
She looks down at the figure that she was grasping. Hunting the Easter bunny was apparently easier than pursuit on its eggs.
It was Easter afternoon far ahead. The mascot they’ve recently captured was lying against a random corner of the barn, and the two gems and pumpkin were surrounding it like there was an interrogation, which was literally and currently going on.
“So tell us, Easter bunny, how many eggs have you laid and where have you hidden them?” Peridot asks. But she was answered with untainted silence.
“I think it’s passed out. It hasn’t been speaking the whole time.” Lapis says.
“No way, its eyes are open. Maybe we just have to talk to it nicely.” Peridot says and clears her throat. “Hello! Please, make yourself ay home…!” Her look changes more positively in front of the mascot. But obviously, there was no response or movement giving the impression that it was being rude.
Her expression changes back to being dulled. “Lapis, grab the baseball bat. We’re gonna do this the hard way.”
“Alrighty.”
The petite gem took out her table and researched once again. ‘how to talk to the easter bunny’ she ludicrously searches. A tab of information was back on her screen again. At that moment, she realizes the data she missed about the character. It was IMAGINARY.
“ohhhh.” Peridot groans in awkwardness. Lapis comes back with the baseball bat and just in time for the green gem to show what she read. “It’s fictional…” she displays the data.
“Then, wait, who’s that right now?” she points at the mascot.
“Apparently, that is a mascot of who we wanted to look for…who doesn’t exist.” It was then the appropriate moment that the two gems face palmed. Not only were they failed mythbusters, they were also technically thieves. “We have to give it back, don’t we?” Lapis asks.
They flew back to Beach city and went back to the arcade where Mr. Smiley was under pressure for a while. They surrendered the mascot to him, but the situation was not over when they had to explain why they stole it.
“Do you have any idea what kind of trouble you guys would’ve caused?” Mr. Smiley asks uneasy. “And I thought you were no trouble at all either.”
“Yeah we’re sorry…But we swear it won’t happen again.” Peridot gives her apology.
Mr. Smiley started putting on the costume considering he was supposed to wear it for the Beach City egg hunt. “You’re lucky the children have been patient for 5 minutes.” He says. “If you hadn’t come back with the suit and confessed, I would’ve called the authorities on you.”
“That won’t be necessary.” Peridot says. “We’ll be heading off now. Happy Easter…!”
It was back to the barn at last. She and Lapis were on the truck balcony doing their usual binge watching of Camp Pining Hearts and decided to stick on doing that for the whole Easter. The first episode they put on was absurdly an Easter episode where everything was a competitive egg hunt.
“I should know better than to believe in fairytales…” Peridot utters regretfully.
“Don’t let yourself down, Peri.” Lapis says “You just misread your stuff that’s all.”
“But I never misread anything. I’m sorry we were on pursuit for nothing…”
“But we had fun though, didn’t we?” Lapis asks.
“Well, yes. I think we did.” Peridot replies.
“Then that’s it. That’s all I wanted anyway.” The two gems grinned softly.
Paulette was the winner of the Easter egg hunt in the episode. The ending was similar to Lapis and Peridot’s conversation only it was about how Percy would have won the hunt by cheating.
“You just want to have a normal egg hunt?” Peridot asks looking at Lapis.
“Sure. You’re gonna make the eggs.” Lapis replies.
“You and Pumpkin color them with the spare paint cans.”
“And we’ll both hide them afterwards.”
“Please don’t cheat by placing them somewhere I can’t find them.”
“I won’t” she ends the conversation shiftily laughing.
They went back inside the barn to commence making their first egg hunt before Easter ends.

MWEHEHE I NEED ALYX TOWARDS AILITH AND ZARATHOS TOWARDS DARINA
Alyx and Ailith
Neck:  ★ ★ ★ ★ ★  “Hah, well, even though it’s thin, I see nothing wrong with it, and you can keep that pretty head of yours up quite nicely to boot, so what’s there to judge?”
Shoulders:★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★” Thin but firm and powerful for your shape, compliments your status quite well, Miss Ailith.”
Arms:★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ “Not only are those markings elegant, but you being able to draw out those arm blades and barely even flinch after losing so much blood… you have my respect. Just… be careful drawing them out, yeah? … Y’know, for your sake.”
Hands: ★ ★ ★ ★ “Not much to say here; they’re hands I’ve come to expect, average but a pretty porcelain color, and rather petite.”
Chest:★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ -holds his hand over his mouth and looks away while closing his eyes, nodding- “… You…well…” -sighs- “ To hell with it; you have a generous and healthy bust. There, h-hah, I said it. That kickass red blade makes it cool on top of… well, looking great to boot.”
Overall Upper body: 👍
Waist:★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★  “The markings follow you all the way down here… a firm and attractive wide-ish shape that leads up well with your…”
Butt:★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★  “… uh… yeah, haha… your rear’s a pleasing rounded shape too.” -closes his eyes as he tries to not blush so much-
Legs:★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ “Snow white legs with wing-like steel-grey markings… they almost make it look like you’re wearing armor. Pretty awesome…” -to himself- “… not to mention looking awesome…”
Feet: ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ “I wssn’t expecting feet quite like these given what you’re a hybrid of, but hey, they’re pretty interesting, and they look strong too. Could definitely deliver a solid kick, and even scrape some unlucky sucker.”
Overall lower body: 👍
Body language:★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ “You always show a sense of power and control, which compliments your royal lineage as well as you as a person. You’re the kind of woman that a crowd could cheer for just as much as look up to, Ailith.”
Overall appeal:★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ “Heh… well, I may as well keep being honest; you’re easily the most gorgeous woman I’ve seen, and I’ve seen a fair amount of ladies in my time. Not only are you exotic and pretty, but your might and resolve is something else. Heh, hell… I could take cues from you on that front.”
Notes: “All I can really say right now is keep fighting for what you believe in. You’re a tough girl, no doubt about that, and I’m sure whatever you’re going through you’ll make it out on top. I’ll always look forward to seeing you again, Miss Ailith. And hey… if you ever need anything from me, I’ll always spare an hour or more for ya.”
Zarathos and Darina
Neck:  ★ ★ ★ “Hrmph. Albeit small, I commend it for being able to support not only your head, but also your crown, for it seems quite bearing.”
Shoulders:★ ★ ★ ★ ★★ “A size befitting as the starting point for a queen’s posture. Do not squander it.”
Arms:★ ★ “Little to say on the matter. All there is to note are the colors… that is all.”
Hands: ★ ★  ★“Hrm, small and fragile-looking, yet… I do not doubt that their appearance could be deceiving.”
Chest:★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ “A fairly healthy standard… however that gem is very unusual. I’m assuming your Xerneas heritage bears responsibility for its shape…”
Overall Upper body: 👍
Waist:★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ -sigh- “I suppose the shape of your hips tapers well with your regal figure.”
Butt:★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ - “Pivotal support is not just important for regal posture, but for stances and mobility in battle. Given its size and shape… it appears to be a fair foundation for both.”
Legs:★ ★ ★ ★ ★ - “A well-meated roundness that forms into a fairly elegant shape… not unbefitting for your status I suppose.”
