All Good Things Must Come To An End
A huge THANK YOU! to everyone who’s supported retrofragrances.com. Unfortunately, a close relative of mine has been diagnosed with Stage IV cancer. I am the caregiver and will no longer be able to maintain the site. Retrofragrances.com will close permanently on June 28, 2024. Anyone who’s been thinking about downloading “Understanding Perfume: A Beginner’s Guide” should do so now.
How To Download
There’s been some confusion about the download process for this ebook. There’s a “suggested price” section on the download page that reads 1.99 USD, but you can change that by typing in a different price. The lowest purchase price is 0.99 USD. Follow the prompts to complete the secure transaction. Lemon Squeazy makes it easy, lol.
Here's the store link for those having problems with the overlay on the website.
Thank You to everyone who’s already purchased, those who will purchase, and all my regular readers. It really feels good to know that something I’ve written has been helpful to others. As for the site, I can try again later when I have some free time. It’s been fun and a learning experience, but I need to spend as much time as possible with my loved one. I hope you all understand.

Hello! I love your blog and would like to ask for your advice. I want to look like an elegant, expensive woman. However, I am having a hard time applying makeup and setting up a skin care routine. Do you have an tips or resources on how to wear makeup elegantly and care for one's skin (for those new to makeup and skin care)?
What are the basic products needed for a dewy, classy make up look? Do you have any tutorials?
What are the basic products needed for healthy, minimal skin care routine?
Thank you for reading this ask! Have a great day!
Hi love! Sharing some of my tips below:
Skin:
Always use a disposable cloth when washing your face: Regular towels store bacteria and can cause breakouts too easily. These facial wipes from Amazon are my holy grail.
Wear sunscreen daily: Yes, even when you spend all day indoors. UV rays can interact with your skin through windows, too.
Niacinamide, Vitamin C Hyaluronic Acid, & Tea Tree Oil are among the few skincare ingredients almost everyone should consider incorporating into their skincare routine.
Learn the correct order to apply the products in your skincare routine: Cleanser, Toner, Serum, Eye Cream, Spot Treatment, Moisturizer, Sunscreen (or Retinol/Skin Oil at night).
Remember: From a dermatologist's perspective, your face starts (or ends) at your nipples. So, ensure you're cleansing, exfoliating, and applying sunscreen daily to your neck, chest, and décolletage to keep your skin smooth, youthful, and well-hydrated.
Vaseline is a great (affordable) alternative to traditional eye creams.
Sugar scrub your facial hair for a more gentle alternative to waxing (Combine sugar, lemon, and water). Laser hair removal, especially under your arms and your arms/legs is life-changing.
Follow up a warm shower with a dry brush and coconut oil for smoother, firmer skin.
Always apply a hydrating lip balm, mask, or Vaseline, hand cream, and moisturizer to your feet before going to sleep.
Layer complementary scents. Ensure the scents of body wash, lotion, and perfume work well together and don't clash.
Makeup:
Learn your skin undertones and educate yourself on color theory (I can create a short ebook/PDF if you want some more educational content on these types of topics – I write about them for a living!).
Test any foundation, concealer, or face powder on your wrists, too.
Don't forget to color-match your bronze and blush: They can appear orange or muddy if you don't find a product with the correct shade or undertones for your skin type.
Invest in products that go on your face, brow products, and eyeliners. Great mascaras and lip products are easy to find at a drugstore or relatively cheap (I suggest Covergirl and NYX, respectively).
Apply concealer in a triangle; don't dot it around your eyes for better coverage.
If you have oily skin (or it's humid outside), apply powder before your liquid/cream products. Set them again with a light powder to lock the color in.
Apply mascara from tip to base for the best lashes of your life: One coat on the tip, another from middle to tip, and the last coat from base to tip.
In a pinch, use a fragrance-free moisturizer and a Q-tip to remove excess makeup (no more raccoon eyes).
Use a light nude or white eyeshadow underneath your brow to make them appear more defined.
Apply face powder under your eyes to help the eyeliner on your waterline last longer.
Create a simple daily makeup routine formula: 1 skin coverage (foundation/concealer), 1 skin color (a favorite blush or bronzer), brows, mascara, an eye-definer (eyeliner or shadow), and a signature "your lips but better" lip shade (1-2 shades deeper or lighter than your natural lip color): This formula provides you the basics, so you never have an excuse not to put yourself together for the day (5-10 minute routine here).
Discover your day-to-night hero product: Always keep a slightly deeper lipstick, a smoky eyeshadow, or liquid liner in your bag to transition your day look into the evening with one portable product.
Hope this helps xx

SNEAK PEEK:
March 14th, 1960
Graceland
Elvis can’t sleep. Even after his romp with the little ice skater currently wrapped in his arms, and the lingering exhaustion that never seems to truly go away, his mind and body just won’t relax.
He wants to, he really does. It was his hope that sex might do the trick, but instead he just finds himself staring aimlessly above him, uncharacteristically uncomfortable with the girl he is holding in her post-coital bliss. Honestly, all he wants right now is her out of here and back downstairs with all the rest of the Holiday on Ice company he’d invited over for a party. Maybe play in the surprise snowstorm a little.
Greta is a carryover from his time in Germany, a part of the Holiday on Ice troupe he had seen in Frankfurt. There, it was different. She’d been a welcome distraction, and he thought, since she happened to be one of the few from that company who’d come over stateside, that maybe she would prove the same here.
No such luck.
She was fine and all. The sex was fine, but something was…missing. And frankly he feels strange about her occupying your side of the bed, sullying it with her cloying perfume. He makes a note to tell someone to change the sheets before you come in.
And with that thought, he untangles himself despite the girl’s disappointed sigh of protest and starts redressing. “Best get back downstairs, darlin’. Can’t have folks sayin’ I’m a bad host,” he says disarmingly, tucking his dress shirt into the cummerbund he’s refastened around his waist, throwing her a wide, bright smile he knows from experience has a warm effect on women.
She nods, getting the hint and smiling back at him while she picks up her clothes from where they’d been so carelessly discarded on the floor not all that long ago. Once they are both decent, he opens the door to usher her out and nearly runs right into you as pass through the hallway.
It is silly the way his heart races, as though he’s been caught with his hand in the cookie jar. He watches you take stock of the situation, holding his breath for your reaction. It is certainly not the first time he’d been caught with one girl by another, and he can’t help feeling that he has betrayed you in some way. Perhaps it is because to everyone else in this house, you are his girlfriend, and any man in his right mind doesn’t want to be discovered fooling around with one girl when he is supposed to be with another...

Book One | Chapter Seven | Announcement
Tumblr media
Announcement:
This will be the last chapter of Dragon's Daughter that will be posted for free on Tumblr, just due to the AI nonsense. I opted out, of course, but you never know.
There will be two free options available going forward. If you want to be on the mailing list, send me an ask with your email and you will receive the chapters that way every other week as usual (I will not answer these publicly). For the next two weeks I will also work on getting caught up on Substack and will be publishing there on the same schedule.
I know that makes it much more of a pain, and I appreciate all of your support! If you don't want to take either one of those options, Dragon's Daughter should still be publishing physical and ebook copies sometime this year so you can always wait for that ;)

When Patrice returned to her room at the end of the evening, it looked as if a storm had hit. Most servants were required to return to their posts long before the festivities of the day ended, and hers hadn't wasted a second of time. Fabric, dresses, and accessories were strewn about the sitting room. Maria, Elaine, and Anna sat in front of the open window, chattering like birds as they sewed. They paused in their work as Patrice entered the room.
"Lady Patrice!" said Elaine. "We didn't expect you back yet since there is a formal dinner tonight."
Patrice looked over the mess and the three women perched in the center of it. She did not make a point of saying that she had never attended any of the formal dinners. Instead she said, "I came back to rest for the evening, you need not stop your tasks. And I do not require any help." She added the last bit as Maria began to stand up.
The maid settled back down, but didn't resume sewing. "Are you sure you don't need anything?"
"Yes," Patrice said, a little more forcefully than she intended to. Maria's mouth formed a silent 'O' at the rebuke, and she said nothing further. Patrice turned on her heel and picked her way across the fabric strewn floor to the sanctuary of her bedroom.
She gave a sigh of relief as the door shut behind her. She had stayed out in the stands until the end of the day's jousting, watching as Felisjyta moved up to the next round of the competition. It continued into Saturday, meaning another day surrounded by far too many people and far too much noise. Humans flocked together, as loud and gregarious as the crows that used to roost in the ruined castle. But she'd always been able to scare off crows when they became annoying. Humans were far less accommodating.
Patrice did not bother to light the waiting candles as she traversed her bedroom floor. The rising moon shone in through the windows, and provided more than enough light for a dragon to see by. She draped her mother's cloak over the bed, left the ruined dress on the floor, and used her claws to comb out her hair from the arrangement Maria had twisted it into. That done, she studied her reflection in the mirror.
No one would ever mistake her for human. Fancy clothing could not take away the scales that grew along her spine, and spread out like stars across her shoulders, hips, and cheekbones. Face paints and powders – two things Patrice intended to continue avoiding at all costs – would not be able to hide clawlike nails, or fangs, or amber cat's eyes. No perfume was sweet enough to entirely mask the spicy, coppery scent of dragon that clung to her, and no amount of courtly manners would cool her blood. And yet, something was different.
The reflection that looked back at her was not just her mother's daughter, as it had been before in the tower. Now there was some trace of Lady Patrice Drake too. Some small but noticeable change in attitude.
Patrice sighed. She had tried very hard to ignore the human half of herself growing up. She had tuned out her mother's stories and advice, had refused any suggestions that her future might be among humans. She could admit now, that her mother had certainly planned for this sort of event to happen and had tried to prepare her for it. It had been Patrice's own fault that she didn't want to listen. After all, if her mother had only wanted to fight human knights she could have done that by traveling to them. There was no reason to spread rumors of a maiden trapped in a tower if she had not wanted the maiden to leave the tower eventually.
She was the one who had never wanted to leave the tower.
She was the one who had always tried her best to only be a dragon, even if she was a poor excuse for one. But Felisjyta had given the human half of herself a name, and now Patrice could no longer ignore it. Her mother would probably be happy, but Patrice wasn't sure she could say the same thing about herself.
She turned away from the mirror and pulled the stone dragon from the dress on the floor. Even after a few days it was smooth and worn, the features and details disappearing. Without those, there was little to distinguish it from a statue of a human. Patrice threw herself onto the bed. She wrapped her mother's cloak around herself and reveled in the comforting and familiar scent of it. But she could tell that the scent of her mother was fading, and soon she would be stranded in a strange place, without even that small comfort. She buried her face in her pillow and did her best to sleep.

The second day of the tournament arrived with a heat wave that raised the temperature a full fifteen degrees higher than the previous day. Servants and nobles alike stripped off as many layers as they could without appearing indecent. The same tactic could not be used by the knights, who had to continue to fight and toil under their heavy armor and padded gambesons. Patrice alone seemed comfortable in her emerald kirtle and dragonscale cloak. Even better, Maria had managed to buy her a set of lady's flat riding boots in soft leather. She despaired over the look, but Patrice was overjoyed to be free of the pointless little slippers and uncomfortable wooden forms.
Only two Serzek knights had made it to the final twelve, Felisjyta and a giant of a man named Petrich. The two of them, and their horses, took the heat worse than the Runerian knights they were to face. Felisjyta sat on the ground by the arena trying to keep cool with the help of a parchment fan. Vasya stood with her head lowered, not even bothering to graze.
Felisjyta was riding against Sir Johan. He seemed to be doing better than she, for he still had the energy to flirt with the audience at the far side of the arena. His destrier showed the heat though, and did little except to flick his ears and tail halfheartedly.
"It's just as well the season is about to end," Maria complained, fanning herself off with her own parchment fan. "We can't take much more of this heat."
The maid had elected to sit with Patrice today, instead of running off to visit her friends and relations. Patrice was glad of her company, as Maria allowed her to ward off the attentions of the incorrigible Countess Elizabet. In fact, the two of them had not even chosen a seat until the countess was already seated and involved in a conversation with some other unsuspecting victim.
So today Patrice sat on the opposite side of the arena, far from the royal family and anyone of consequence. She did not mind that at all. She waved her silk fan, more for lack of anything to do than from the heat. The crowd around her waited in a sort of patient resignation, much too hot to be restless.
Maria seemed energetic enough. She attempted to start a conversation again. "I'm glad Sir Leroy didn't make it this far. How he even made it to the second round is a mystery to me."
"Luck," said Patrice. "His opponent's horse stumbled right as they came together."
Sir Johan had been the one to defeat the loathsome knight who had caused all of her distress, and Leroy had come out of the match with sore grace. Although Patrice naturally hoped for Felisjyta to win, she was still a little sad that meant Johan had to lose. He had done her a sort of favor, after all, and had come through the tournament with an amusing flare. Her mother would've loved him.
"He shouldn't have been able to get in at all," Maria said, "compared to some of the other knights who came here. The wandering knights have a harder time getting allowed to compete at all, and he wasn't even the best of them. But I guess killing a dragon counts for something. It's a rare accomplishment these days."
"Oh, is it?" Patrice asked, her voice cold. Maria wisely elected not to continue the conversation.
They sat in silence until the announcer stood up.
Now that the match had almost started, both knights perked up. The mood translated to the horses as well, they lifted their heads and pricked their ears. When the combatants entered the arena, it was as if the heat no longer existed. They bowed to one another as the announcer went over their names for the benefit of a crowd which no doubt recognized them already.
The match clearly showed the abilities of all the knights in the third tier of the tournament. Three rounds came and went without a clear victor. A fourth pass of jousting probably would've been easier, especially in this heat. But both knights decided on a duel instead. Patrice watched with her usual fascination. She had seen Johan fight before, though his style was much cleaner now that he was fighting in earnest and not for show.
Patrice had not seen Felisjyta dismount. Her style, the Serzek style, was based much more on speed than on power. Johan was all about power. His slashes and thrusts were delivered with considerable force behind them, but Felisjyta spun and twirled and dodged his attacks as if she were made of smoke. Johan was no slouch on speed either. He kept up the offensive, and Felisjyta had little time to do anything but dodge.
The duel ranged back and forth across the length of the arena. Felisjyta was at a disadvantage due to the heat, but Johan was larger and tired more quickly. Both were flagging by the time she managed to disarm him with an upward thrust of her sword, much to the shock of both. Both knights stared at his sword, which landed point down in the sand. Then Johan laughed and held out his hand. Felisjyta took it. The cheers of the crowd held for a second before catching on in earnest. The Serzek knights, and Felisjyta in particular, were doing much better than anyone expected them to.
Patrice and Maria both clapped without any hesitation. Felisjyta did not wait to enjoy her applause. She stumbled off the field with Vasya following after, head down and caparison soaked through with sweat.
Patrice rested her fan on her lap. "In heat like this, why bother to hold the tournament at all?"
"The tournament hardly stops for anything," Maria replied as two more knights took their places. "The matches have to be completed by the end of the season, which is only a few days from now. How well people do in the tournament determines who gets invited to summer court."
"So who goes?"
The two knights below began their first round.
"The top three knights and their ladies," the maid said. "This tournament is a way to honor those who serve the crown but don't ordinarily rank high enough to obtain such an award."
Something about this seemed off. "You said that female knights don't usually fight under a favor," said Patrice. When Maria nodded, she continued. "So if a female knight wins, who goes to the summer court?"
"Well…just the knight, I suppose. There aren't that many female knights anyway."
Well, perhaps it wasn't that odd. After all, Patrice hadn't even known that there were female knights until she came here. In all the time she had lived in Dragon's Keep, she had never seen one. She shifted in her seat. "Surely the Serzek duchess is going, so then Felisjyta must go as well, correct?"
Maria shook her head. "Felicity came as part of the duchess's retinue, but she's not one of her personal guards. So she has to earn it, like everyone else."
"And the members of the court who are invited to the royal estate have a higher chance of being involved in the politics of the upcoming season?"
"See! You're getting the hang of court after all, Lady Patrice!" Maria laughed.
"Somehow I think I'm still very far behind," Patrice replied.

How did you pick up that noir writing style vibe for your stuff? It's awesome!
thank you! it's sort of a boring answer i'm afraid and is really more of a general genre thing: i read a lot of it, and i watched a lot of it, and tried to cast a pretty wide net. pulling from the greats in a genre is going to get you far, but doing that and digging through pulps is going to get you further. if something really dazzles me, i take the excerpt and keep it in my ebook notes. if i'm reading something and it's falling flat on its face, i try to pick apart the why. what is it going for? did it succeed? how would i do it? how much of this is 'bad' and how much of it is just my personal tastes weighed against a paragraph that's fine? and so on and so forth.
when i find myself going in circles, i put the genre down and go and read something wildly different. the last time this happened i read moby dick, manhunt, things have gotten worse since we last spoke, a couple of middling-to-bad video game novels, perfume for the thirty-thousandth time.
have you ever read a book (romance novels get this a lot i've noticed) where you think, oh no, the person writing this thinks i'm a mark, a little dot on a marketing graph somewhere, a purchasing demographic? or, say, you're really into sword and sorcery fantasy and you pick up a deconstruction where the author has clearly never read a fantasy book in their lives and is working off what they think fantasy conventions are? i think the best way to avoid that is just by being completely earnest in what you're doing and keeping an open mind. if somebody picks up something you've made, what is it you want to convey? a big swing for a style they may never like, or a cringing, apologetic gesture that nobody will like, not even you?

on washing clothes from Mend! A refashioning manual and manifesto by Kate Sekules
(please buy the book, or rent it from a library, or order it through a library to rent from them, or rent it through a library ebook collection etc. etc.)
Wash Less
Washing is killing your clothes. Every laundering shortens a garment’s life by, oh, a month (see endnote 8*). I bet the source of the one-wear wash idea was Procter & Gamble’s Mad Men–era marketing team: overwashing sells more Tide (it can also redeposit soil on clothes and set stains permanently). Not washing is getting awfully trendy now, for green reasons, but the main mend-related reasons are that less washing—and definitely less tumble drying—paradoxically saves your favorite clothes, and probably time, too.
There are three reasons to wash a clothe: removal of stain, or of germ, or of smell. I daresay smell (or fear of) is what propels us fastest to the washing machine. But listen up.
Less Laundering ≠ More Stinking To overgeneralize, but not really, because athleisure, clothes get stinky when they’re made of synthetic fiber. Ridiculously, the clothes manufactured expressly for sweating into are the most petrochemical of the lot.
Yes your performance fiber top wicks your sweat, but then it hugs it to its bosom, maybe refusing to let it go, ever, in a phenomenon scientifically named perma-stink. Synthetics are hydrophobic but oleophilic—they hate water, but love oil—so they cling jealously to body odor compounds, but refuse the advances of your washing machine.
The more you fight your running tights, the more they resist—dryer sheets and extra detergent and heat drive the smell-causing bacteria deeper into the fibers, where they take up residence. Antimicrobial finishes such as silver chloride don’t deter them at all. It is gross.
I’m not here to lecture on eco-water-saving detergent-minimizing, though this is a happy side effect of many old-new methods. I’m here to keep good clothes alive and mendable. I confess I’m a bit conflicted about stains. Set-in stains invite mending, and mends invite conversation, and then you can tell everyone about the bacteria partying in their pants.
So I’ll ignore stains, aside from the kind that attack and degrade fabric or can’t be mended or spoil the overall beauty of a thing.
Speaking of ignoring, follow only the bits that sound appealing: the last thing we want is the return of washday labor and guilt. I’ve been around the laundry block—never owned a washer-dryer till I was a mom; been a student, a traveler, dirt poor, addicted to wash-dry-fold service—and after all this, I’ve discovered that tending clothes is actually fun.
Anyway, decide for yourself. Here are assorted old-school and costume specialist hacks to mend your cleaning routine and keep your favorite garments alive:
Gym stink. Sweat is odorless. The smell is bacteria breaking down proteins into acids. Left in a swampy pile, these reproduce like a horror film. Arrest the breeding! Rinse gym things out in plain water and hang to dry right after committing the sweat.
Or switch to all-cotton workout wear. It’s hydrophilic and oleophobic, the opposite of synthetics, so absorbs and holds or wicks sweat, but resists oils and smells.
Aromatic pits and the crotchal region. Sorry to be graphic, but you know what I’m talking about. Try these professional theater costume department and vintage dealer nowash fixes:
Give it a drink. Spritz generously with pure (cheap) vodka; let dry. No alcohol smell!
Connect to earth. Sprinkle fuller’s earth on the bits overnight. Vacuum up, with stink.
Acidulate. For allover smell, steam garment over a hot bath of white vinegar solution.
A paste of baking soda and water is much cheaper than Febreze and often works better.
SOS: Save Our Sweaters. Handwashing in cool water is the only way. You don’t need to do it often. Invest in perfume-priced cleansers or use baby shampoo. Rinse thoroughly, squeeze gently, then . . .
Reshape (it’s called blocking) the wet sweater on a fluffy towel, Swiss roll it, and kneel on the roll to squish out water. Never wring knitwear. Dry on a fresh towel, turning it periodically.
Air dry whatever you can, especially vintage, most of which should never go in the dryer. Your hand mends last longer when air dried, too. Use ordinary hangers if you lack line or frame.
Add a few drops of lavender essential oil to water in a spray bottle to spritz on while ironing.
Yellowed cotton might have gotten that way from dry-cleaning. Add borax to the wash. And hang out in the sun—which is mostly terrible and verboten for fabrics, because of this bleaching effect.
Care labels are often as generic as the website cookie disclaimer that you never read and fulfill a similar legal function. Nearly everything can be gently handwashed.
Exceptions are: velvet, satin, taffeta, brocade, some silks, anything tailored or structured, and everything under Special Concerns in the chart on pages 144–45 (Historic fabrics, weighted silk, embellished fabrics, real lace, metallics, 3d effect fabrics, fur real/fake, net/mesh, hand painted, leather, suede*). Beware rayon: very tricky and variable.
Spot clean and steam fancy clothes—or, in fact, most clothes. Vintage dealers do.
For embellished items, borrow the museum conservator method: vacuum on low with open vent and flat nozzle through a gauze screen edged with tape.
Forget wasteful sticky-sausage lint cleaners. Use an old-school clothes brush or the kind that picks up lint one direction and deposits it on the reverse journey.
Mildew. Omnipresent fungal spores that feast on your damp natural fibers. It’s serious and contagious. Dry, vacuum, dry-clean, revacuum. It may be too late for this poor garment.
A final little trick. Scribble all over metal zippers with graphite pencil: nonstick magic. endnote 8*
Unreliable statistic that I made up. This is an experiment in misinformation. Because nobody’s done this math, I wonder if the figure I just invented will get quoted and thereby eventually become true? Other notes:
No, really, perma-stink was coined by human ecology professor Rachel McQueen et al., “Odor Intensity in Apparel Fabrics and the Link with Bacterial Populations,” Textile Research Journal 77, no. 7 (2007): 449–56.
The no wash and the dry (or raw) denim movements are ecologically motivated but are also having the effect of bringing more natural fibers and finishes to market. They sell at a high price point for the most part, but this is beginning to trickle down—though such clothes can’t and shouldn’t be sold too cheap; they’re investments. Also, PS, infusing with peppermint oil or whatever does nothing long term to decrease the need for washing: all natural, untreated fibers are resistant to microbes.
Ulterior motive: as a lifelong devotee of pure cotton sweats, I prefer its wicking, slightly baggy, nonstinking qualities, and wish it would catch on.
I could go on and on about detergents, which are often foul in so many ways. For an up-todate and reliable breakdown of their relative merits, see the rated reviews by the 501(c)(3) nonprofit Environmental Working Group, https://www.ewg.org/guides/categories/9-Laundry/. You may find your go-to wash solution has earned a solid “F” grade.
Extra credit: invest in a horizontal drying rack or make one out of window screen gauze.
A steamer is a wise investment—they’re effective, gentle, and far more fun than ironing.

Possibly too late now, but as far as random questions go - top three things you've read/watched/played so far this year?
Mate, I have so much being bored in airports ahead of me. For the record, I'm typing this while waiting to get on my first of 3 flights. It's going to be a bad and long day for me.
I really need to implement some kind of system for remembering when I do things, because anything before about a month ago may as well be two years ago. But! I did look at my ebook purchases and it turns out I have read things other than Malazan this year.
Watched - Killers of the Flower Moon. I did a quick fire review, but it's worth repeating. (I know, I know, I'm breaking new ground here by saying a critically acclaimed film with a world-famous director and phenomenal cast is good.) On top of everything else, I wish I'd seen this on the big screen actually, as the costuming was exquisite. It's rare for period costuming to be done so well, with such attention to accuracy.
Read - Translation State by Ann Leckie. I don't think this novel was as good as, say, Ancillary Justice, but mainly because while the latter was laser focused and tightly plotted, TS is by intention more meandering and open-ended. It's about shifting the lens to reveal that the rich, complex world as described in the Imperial Radch trilogy is actually a small, weird outcropping of an even bigger universe. I also enjoyed how it pulled out the body horror elements mainly hinted at previously, and really leaned into them. I'm still looking for anyone to turn into goo and become one person with me.
Played - I'm going to intentionally misunderstand play here to mean any creative activity. For my birthday this year, I did a perfume making workshop with a few friends. The actual workshop itself was meh (I've been to better ones), but making perfume is really fun. You get to smell a bunch of stuff, put drops of stuff into beakers, and see how different ingredients interact. It's also really interesting doing it with friends because everyone's choices are so different. I actually really enjoy wearing fragrances. My favourite is one I made last year, which smells like warm fragrant wood chips and smoke.

**Update**
Guess who also got called into HR yesterday for a “scents at work” concern? HAHA!
Someone in my “immediate workspace complained”. Magnificently, I happened to be wearing Shalimar EDT for this retarded meeting which I love because the citrusy vanilla stabilizes the mood and reminds you even if the world is run by and for losers, you have the choice to detach from the shenanigans and do better.
Long story short, we’re pretty sure it’s the cucked, spiritual woman of a union steward boomer who dyes his hair and refuses to retire. Anyway sucks for the poor fucker because now my other coworker and I plan on actually doubling up on fragrance. My old pagan self would hex him which I’ve done before with low IQ corporate mercenaries, but my higher self tells me he labors under serious emotional wounding, which affects his ability to spell and navigate ebook apps. He’s pathetic and trapped, and I unfortunately empathize.
You asked about my go-tos, nothing revelatory or transgressive: Lolita Lempicka purple bottle, Lulu, L’Heure Bleu, What We Do In Paris Is Secret, Tresor, Alien EDT, Lipstick Rose, Musc Ravageur, Iris Poudre, Poison EDT, Mitsouko EDT, Habanita, Mure et Musk Extreme, Chanel Misia and L’Eau No 5, Olsen Twins stuff, old but beloved baby violet cologne, random drugstore musk oils, and way too many samples of delicious bits of pieces like some of CDG and Xerjoff’s. With perfect timing my M. Micallef Royal Muska arrived last night and this morning I gave myself a glorious dousing. It perfectly suits an imperfect, failing Catholic cryptofascist.
Working in such spiritually unwell surroundings, I am understanding the intensity of non verbal communication and intuition more than I ever have. Humans are wild animals. It’s a privilege to witness, truly.
ok slay.. that’s the backlash for being beautiful.. i still need to try misia it’s compared to so many scents i love 💔 should i revisit shalimar edt? i said just yesterday after trying to will myself to love shalimar for the hundredth time that i HATE IT.. a friend once said that ur not a true perfume freak until you develop a tumultuous love hate relationship with shalimar… i’m still waiting to have the love half of that. anyways something that i always think of when i hear shalimar is how joan and peggy wore it in mad men.. it suits joan so well and i know the prop department didn’t mean anything by putting it on peggy’s vanity, she probably just got it as a gift and never wore it but i always think maybe she bought it to try and conjure up some of joan’s energy in herself before she really came into her own. i don’t think she would have identified with many perfumes until the unsexy girl boss green chypre scents came around in the later 60s. i wonder what perfume fat betty wore

What would you choose: beach or forest | pink or orange | tea or hot choclate | perfum or fresh chlothes | australia or new zealand | summer or autumn | piercing or tattoos | spicy or bland food | gym or different sports | totebag or backbag | to speak spanish or french | fish or meat | country or techno music | dinner party or rave | dress or jeans | ebook or books | cheese or creamcheese | icecream or sorbet | hair up or down | analog camera or phone
Forest (though that’s hard, I love the water)
Orange
Tea
Fresh clothes
Both! I haven’t been to either so choosing one doesn’t feel fair
Autumn (though I do love summer)
Tattoos - I have dozens of tattoos but zero piercings!
Spicy
Sports
Backpack (but realistically also a tote because I usually carry way too much with me at all times)
Spanish
Depends on both the fish + the meat - a little of each!
Techno
Dinner party or rave: depends on the day honestly
Dress or jeans: honestly love both
Books
Cheese
Ice cream
Hair up
Camera vs phone: love both
This was fun, thank you! Xx
