I always forget to take pictures of my progress and because of that I always have to put more than one day of the challenge in the same post ahahahah.

I have been working really hard during the last three days. I had two interviews to transcript for my internship and one of them took me 7 hours!!! Besides that, I had to study and revise for my test today, so today I just finished a little revision and now I am going to rest a little until the test. Hopefully I will have a good grade!

I know that it is hard seeing everyone having the results and entering their dream master's degrees while you still didn't even apply and are scared of the fact that there is a high chance of not entering because you want something outside of your area. And if that happens what are you gonna do? Without the possibility to continue studying? The truth is I don't know, there are days where I really want to cry with these worries and there are days like today that I know that what happens is going to happen and I will be able to adapt to it. Always remember that the chance of entering or not is the same as it was for the internship, which you were scared like hell because you thought that you would never be able to do one in a newspaper being a sociology student, but what are you doing now? It is true, you entered and maybe while applying someone else will think the same way again and give you the opportunity. Nothing is fixed, nothing is lost, the time will tell the results!

My Advent Challenge: Every day from the 1st of December until the 24th of December, post a poem from the 百人一首 (Hyakunin Isshu - One Hundred Poets, One Poem Each) in Japanese, translated into English.

This poem is very relatable because it speaks about the entangled feelings that are involved in most romantic relationships. I also like the insinuation at the end, in that vague Japanese way.

As the call-back to yesterday’s poem, this one is mainly known because together they are combined in the song lyrics by band “Surganova and the Orchestra”. They work together surprisingly well. Tatiana Khmelnik is contemporary poet from Saint-Petersburg, but I couldn’t find her works with a quick search, so I’ve did a quick translation myself, though it certainly lacks in style:

Your hands are too sure, You think that you can Push me with your palm To the welcoming ashes of the grave.

And you are sure about your rights To crown or overthrow, You want to be called a god And rain the fire on the snow.

But, you know, your arm isn't stronger Then the one that protects me. I am obeying only it, So I stand and don't fear the fire.

I submit just for it, So I am calm before your eyes. I will be gifted a life behind that wall Where the eternal garden shines.

Left the city for some days and it is so peaceful that feels like I have too much time to work and finish everything very quickly.

As a proud Portuguese, I will say saudade. This word doesn't have a literal translation to any language, but people say it is like a nostalgic longing for something that was loved before and end up being lost.

The day of the event which I spent 6 months preparing with students association which had more that one hundred people watching it!

I am about to graduate, my ceremony is in the end of the month and my finals end in mid june so yeah... As someone introverted and with really difficulty making friends I have to say that I am going to miss my group of friends. I am trying to pursue for a master's degree, but it is going to be in a different university which means beginning all over again like when I was a freshman all alone. Besides that, I am going to miss my university parties, before covid hit, I went to all of them and it was such a stress reliever.

I did more online shopping than in my entire life, I took three different courses, participate in more than five workshops, started reading again which made me buy and trade so many books that it is shocking, began my internship, end up being the coordinator of department in student association and began learning mandarin and japanese.

Advent Challenge 1/24

My Advent Challenge: Every day from the 1st of December until the 24th of December, post a poem in Japanese, translated into English. 

I’m excited about this challenge because I’ve been looking for an excuse to brush up on the 百人一首 (Hyakunin Isshu - One Hundred Poets, One Poem Each) - a collection of famous poems that is the basis for a card game often played in the New Year in Japan (have you seen Chihayafuru?). So I will post one of the poems each day for 24 days with original Japanese and the English translation. These poems are often about love, broken hearts, and the ephemerality of life. Here is Day 1!

1番　(Poem 1)

Aki no ta no  kari-ho no iho no  toma wo arami  wa ga koromo-de ha  tsuyu ni nuretsutsu

秋の田の 仮庵の庵の 苫をあらみ わが衣手は 露にぬれつつ

In the autumn fields  the hut, the temporary hut,  its thatch is rough  and so the sleeves of my robe  are dampened night by night with dew.
