You know, writing novels really skews your perception of how many words is a lot.

I'm staring at my third draft, 26 559 words, and I'm thinking, wow that's so few words. I cut more words from my first draft than I have written for my third so far.

I'll be writing an essay for uni like, 1000 words? That's it???

And I have to be careful because, no, 26 500 is A LOT of words. It's nearly 50 pages of printer paper.

The very first time I tried to write a novel I got about 28 000 words in before I got permanently stuck. When I told people their reaction was generally, "28 000 is still a lot of words though. Wow."

And now, I am nearly 28 000 words in again... but to a third draft. 215 180 words into this project. And I'm not stuck this time.

The discussion whether Gwyn is a light singer or a siren is tiring. Especially when the details that Cassian gave about light singers doesn’t match Gwyn what so ever. And ACOWAR & ACOSF to me proves that she isn’t.

Light singers are seen to be lovely, ethereal beings.

• Yes, Gwyn is a lovely person who’s beauty is said to rival Mor & Merrill. And she’s a priestess.

Will lure you

• there is no evidence that Gwyn lured anyone anywhere. Whether it’s by her singing or not.

• I have seen the same theory that Azriel’s shadows are there to “protect” him & it’s a good thing they disappear. If that was the case why didn’t the shadows tell him or warn him about Gwyn being in the training pit in Azriel’s bonus chapter?

• Something I’ve never seen mention is how in ACOWAR, page 559 Feyre said “Again, the Cauldron sang it’s siren song.” Then on the next page, on page 560, and I quote. “Azriel stepped out of a shadow. “What is that,” he hissed. My brows rose. “You hear it?” A shake of the head. “No—but the shadows, the wind…They recoil.”

• If Azriel’s shadows recoil because it heard the cauldrons siren song and if Gwyn is suppose to be a evil light singer or a siren then why doesn’t Azriel shadows recoil from her?

• On page 710 of ACOSF, when Azriel and Cassian were tricked by Koschei. It states “You fell for it rather easily.” Koschei went on, “though you took your time making contact. I thought you’d rush in for the kill, brute that you are.” They could make out nothing of him beyond the shadows of his form. Even Azriel’s own shadows kept tucked behind his wings. Koschei laughed, and Azriel stiffened. Like his shadows had murmured a warning.”

• In Azriel’s bonus chapter it stated, “He aimed for the training pit, giving in to the need to work off the temptation, the rage and frustration and writhing need. He found it already occupied. His shadows didn’t warned him.”

• So to me it seems that Azriel’s shadows tend to hide or recoil when it comes to danger not go towards people that seem like a threat. Azriel’s shadows obviously warn him of any danger to him so the fact that they don’t recoil from Gwyn nor did they warn Azriel she was in the training pit really negates the fact that she’s some evil light singer or siren!

Appearing as friendly faces when you are lost, They drown you in the Bog, they kill for sport.

• If that’s the case Gwyn would have popped up in the Bog when Nesta climbed down the tree looking for Cassian when he went off to go find Azriel. Especially since light singers are suppose to live in the Bog like Cassian stated and drown their victims in it. That would have been a perfect opportunity for Gwyn but where was Gwyn? Not there.

Only when you’re in their arms will you see their true faces

• How many times have we seen Gwyn and Nesta in close proximity to each other? On page 705, in ACOSF we see Nesta wrap her arms around Gwyn while Gwyn sobbed in her chest and right there Nesta was in Gwyn’s arms and the only thing Gwyn did was argue that Nesta shouldn’t stay to bottle neck the path by herself and didn’t even try to attempt to kill Nesta. The only thing Gwyn was worried about was her friend.

So it’s just disgusting to see how Gwyn keeps getting vilified all because of a ship when there is no proof that she’s a light singer or siren all because she sings, which is something she has in common with Azriel. Also it’s fucked up because she’s apart of Nesta’s found family, and a person that really help Nesta with her journey and to have her expose as a villain that people think she is will just fuck up Nesta and her healing arc.

And another big thing, Cassian never stated that light singers can sing! Sirens I get but we have never encountered a siren in the ACOTAR universe!

🎧 - Huh Yunjin

   There was always a girl on this bus. It was the bus you took every morning to get to and from college. She sat in the nearest seat to the back, large grey headphones always on her ears. If you looked close enough, which you did, you'd notice the stickers that decorated the ear coverings. 

   She never looked at anyone on the bus, only ever looking out the window at the passing scenery. You got on the bus after her, and off the bus before her, so you didn't know how long she rode on the bus each day. 

   You sat nearer to the middle of the bus, normally scrolling through your Twitter feed or your Tiktok "For You" page. Occasionally you would bring a book with you, normally when you knew it'd be a lazy day in class. 

   Today, when you got on the bus, you immediately sought out the lone figure sitting in the back, smiling to yourself at the familiar sight. This morning, you decided to not fall into the recesses of your introverted mind and sit somewhere else today, a mildly uncomfortable break in your routine.  

   The girl made no acknowledgment of your presence as you sat in the row opposite her. You found yourself staring at her side-profile, the gentle slope of her nose and the slight pout of her lips. Her long lashes brushed against her thick-rimmed glasses softly when she blinked. 

Sidling a little closer, you leaned forwards, choking words out,

"Listening to anything good?"

   She jumped a little in her seat at the sudden voice talking to her, her headphones falling slightly off her ears. She peered over at you, surprise and curiousity in her gaze. She removed her headphones completely after pressing a button on her phone screen,

"What?"

You swallowed, anxious about repeating yourself,

   "I asked if you were listening to anything good. You're always listening to music in the mornings," you explained your question, watching as her curiosity turned to happiness,

   "Depends. What genres do you like?" She responded, her sweet, melodious voice filling your ears. You unconsciously smiled at the sound of it, leaning forward more to hear her better of the soft chit-chat of the other bus passengers.

   You talked with her about your music tastes for the entirety of the bus ride. When the bus stopped in front of your college, you almost frowned at the interruption of the very pleasant conversation you'd been having. But instead, you just turned back to the girl, who you'd along the way learned was named Yunjin,

   "Could I have your number, so we can chat more?" You felt nervousness clog your throat as she paused for a moment. Yunjin grinned at you, her wavy black hair falling in her face as she quickly pulled her phone out, typing as you relayed your number to her. 

   Getting up from your seat, you waved goodbye before stepping off the bus, looking down at your phone as you recieved a ping from your messages,

Hi 🤍

   You turned around and waved at a smiling Yunjin who waved her phone before slipping her headphones back on and you recieved another ping,

Once again, I haven’t been very active on the art front. Last wednesday I had to embark on a almost 900km (about 559 in Freedom Units) trip to another city for healthcare reasons. It took a little bit over 20 hours with public transit and I had to sleep on a train. Even though I haven’t drawn with a tablet, I managed to make my wifey a 46-page comic episode as a kinda birthday gift (I have no idea why she likes my comics so much.) so i haven’t been a complete slackhole. Also, I got accepted into a University of applied sciences (I have no idea how…), so I suppose I’m also a student now. It’s almost completely 100% web based, so I can study at home, but if I can’t make art into a career, I need to start looking for a job before the end of this month. Also, also, I tried to make myself an Etsy account and got banned, they haven’t told me why ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Fandom Events in 2023

At the start of the year the Avocados took part in a round robin challenge for Sticking It To The Man, in which 6 of us wrote a fic together! I would love to do this again.

The @daredevilexchange held a prompt fest in February, in which I posted 3 fics/art! One of these also started a collab with @udekai for our BADminton series!

In March the Avocados had our Secret Satan exchange in which I wrote Let me spin myself into yarn for @feenyxblue!

Through the year I wrote a few shorter prompted things - from our no prompt left behind challenge on the server, and also from Tumblr requests!

In October we had the @daredevilexchange where I wrote 2 fics, The City That Never (Always) Sleeps, and You know it breaks my heart in half, in half.

Upcoming Plans

I've just started the @killacharacterbingo, 4 fics in, and I hope to finish that next year! I've got a few longterm wips I want to bring back out and actually get finished, and not burnout with constant event pressures.

Writing Reflection

This year has felt quieter. I wrote about half what I did last year, and nothing can compare to 2021. It's been busy IRL, and I've felt like I've been in and out of burnout, but we're getting there!

Having a community online has been a lifesend, and even if I haven't been posting it, we've had plenty of brainrot opportunities, which I'm glad for! I also started to dabble in original fic, and that's slow going, but I'm also writing a bit more through starting DnD, and having text-based rp sessions in between, which are amazing!

Community is everything, and I'm so glad to have met everyone I did, you all hold a special place in my heart. Where else are you going to be able to cry about Matt and Foggy at 2 in the morning and there be someone to listen?

Last Movie: Finally showed "Puss In Boots - The Last Wish" to my mom today, I love that movie so much ❤️ And this is the perfect opportunity to tell about how I met Harvey Guillén in May and he signed a picture of Perrito for me! It was a picture where you can see Perrito's belly scar and he mentioned he doesn't know where Perrito got it from. We then talked how it's okay to show your scars and that led me to spontaneously bring up Käärijä and Eurovision. I said we had a representative with a belly scar too and he's not afraid to show it, and I told how he got it. After I left I was like "Why on earth did I talk about Käärijä to him he didn't even know what Eurovision is" 😅🙈 Brainrot is brainrot I guess.

Currently reading: "Kohtalona mestauslava - Kuolemanrangaistus Suomessa 1500-1825" by Mikko Moilanen (Fated to a scaffold - Death penalty in Finland in 1500-1825). 559 pages about everything death penalty related: how, where, when and why they were carried out. There are also interesting stories about people who were executed. The last one I read actually happened in a town I last lived, I was talking about this with my boss who is from there and she said the family and farm where this story took place (in 1600's) is still there. We were trying to determine where the execution place really was because I didn't recognise one of the road names mentioned and didn't find it from Google Maps.

Currently craving: I just finished eating pasta so now I only want to go to sleep.

Finally finished reading The Secret History!

It's hard to describe how it feels to read it. Beautiful prose and extremely heavy handed foreshadowing but in a way that feels poetic, like an old tragedy that's been modernized. I'm not sure I liked having everything neatly wrapped up at the end with abrupt clarity but I suppose most people want the end of a story to feel final and decided.

I'm going to be mulling this one over for a while
