Thank you to the folks who voted on the poll and made a decision for me. lol Since 80% of y'all told me to post, here is the final product!

SilMil AU Mars's power awakening (pre-transformation)

As opposed to the present-day Sailor Senshi team being able to transform as soon as they receive their transformation items, I envision the past-life Senshi needing to train loads to hone their powers, so all of them can use their elementary powers to a limited extent even without transformation.

I'm very excited with how this piece turned out, especially with how the bow and the flames looked. I actually wasn't too sure where I was going with this when I started, it's like Mars was guiding me along the way to make sure this looks as epic as I could make it. XD

I toyed with the background quite a bit and was torn between the gradient black-to-red background or a plain gray background. The gradient with the flame speckles seems to give a better vibe. But a plain gray one also looked pretty cool, and I could see the different glow better from a lighter background. ✰🔥✰

I had to add the Senshi transformation item/the communicator-looking gadget on Mars's wrist. I TOTALLY forgot about that in my initial wip post, and had to go through episodes of PGSM to find the best screenshot for a good reference. lol

Now let's see if I can keep this up with Venus, Mercury and Jupiter's. :P

We see some the characters display some kind of power outside of battle in the manga. Mamoru has psychometry and some minor healing when he's not Tuxedo Mask, Ami has dowsing abilities, Makoto became static charged (when she was a little sick in the Black Moon arc), and Hotaru had some minor healing abilities (that she only displayed in her debut) outside of being Sailor Saturn. Would Usagi have some kind of power outside of being Sailor Moon? Like some minor healing like Mamoru (her equal with the Golden Crystal) and Hotaru?

Follow up because it just came to me, but since Chibiusa used Luna-P to hypnotize the Tsukino family and Demande trying to hypnotize Usagi, hypnotism seems like a moon related power in the series that Usagi might have!

Don't forget Rei and her spiritual powers! Even when not transformed into Sailor Mars, she's capable of purifying evil spirits, doing fire divination, having precognitive visions, etc. Michiru is also shown to have minor precognitive/psychic abilities.

But yeah, this is a great question! I personally think Usagi would have healing powers akin to Mamoru and Hotaru because it just fits her character so well.

Sunday sketch time!! I'm back baby!! ;P

It's come to my attention that Aromantic Awareness Week has just come and gone this past week without me knowing, so I wanted to do a (slightly belated) piece with my favourite aro cartoon characters, canon or otherwise ^^

Obviously I had to start with the two cutest autistic-coded canon aroace nerds around! I feel like Lilith and Peridot would get along like a house on fire, happily rambling away about history and anthropology together, and I would pay good money to see that friendship happen.

Fun fact: though never stated explicitly, there's a lot of evidence to suggest that Sailor Mars was romance repulsed in the manga! Guess it's fitting since she was always my fave as a kid ^^

Idk how many people also headcanon Ford as aroace, but I've definitely seen it around and it just feels right to me so in lieu of a confirmed orientation this is canon in my heart 💛

I've seen glimpses of the final arcs conclusion. And from that IT LOOKS NOTHING LIKE WHAT HAPPENS IN THE MANGA. I mean since when has this anime ever gone the same way as the source material? But like- they've spent so much time "developing" the senshi and Starlight relationships that they haven't been leading anywhere near a conclusion. I actually doubt the galaxy couldron exists. I don't even think Chibiusa will return-

THEY SCREWED OVER MY FAVORITE ARC SO MUCH BY LEAVING LITERALLY EVERY KEY PLOT POINT OUT THAT THEY EVEN MORE THOUROUGHLY SCREWED OVER THE FINALE ARC.

Oh my God. Guys Naoko Takeuchi set up EVERYTHING for Stars in Dream!!! They PERFECTLY lead into each other!!!

Dream: The introduction of the Golden Crystal as MAMORU'S CRYSTAL and the intro of Sailor Crystals -> Stars: Galaxia witnesses the power that the Silver and Golden crystals have. She goes after Sailor Crystals and uses them to lure Sailor Moon and destroy Chaos.

Dream: Phobos and Deimos have human forms and serve princess Mars. Luna and Artemis are from planet Mau and gain human forms -> Stars: Lead Crow and Nyan(whatever) who are from the same planets are given Sailor Senshi powers

Dream: The amazoness quartet are revealed to be Sailor Chibi Moon's future gaurdian deities -> Stars: they assist Usagi and Chibiusa in the fight against Galaxia

Dream: The final scene depicts Usagi telling Mamoru that everyone has a star in their heart and the last page she asks for the star in her heart to keep shining brightly and lend her strength. -> Stars: The arc is literally called Stars and the Sailor Gaurdians are revealed to be born as Stars from the Galaxy couldron.

something it occurred to me to wonder recently and thought if anyone would know, it would be you ;p

when Eva began back in 1995, how much was it anticipated? both narrowly in otaku circles, and more widely among 'people who watch TV in Japan'? as far as i understand the history, Gainax was pretty niche back then and mostly known for dating sim games, but the visual style of Eva is so immediately striking...

like, I know nobody quite realised just how huge it would become, but was there some sort of excitement for a new robot anime from the people who made Wings of Honneamise, Gunbuster and Nadia? or was it a complete surprise?

Hm, good question! I am not super confident in my answer, so my bet is "highly anticipated but not crazily so". Gainax was known but niche, having 'Otaku' success with as you mention Wings and Gunbuster...until Nadia: Secret of Blue Water came out in 1990. This would not have put Gainax per se on the map, as Toho and Group Tac were branded as the primary producers, Gainax as secondary, but it definitely put Hideaki Anno on the map as director. The show was wildly successful, aired in prime-time slots - which, fun fact, meant that its first season airing was interrupted due to breaking news about the onset of the First Gulf War - and Nadia herself became Best Girl in most of the Newtype/Animage style polls of the time until being dethroned by Sailor Mercury in 1992. Nadia was definitely still 'an anime', and it was a kids show in too many ways to be a real breakout. But it was the top of anime of its time, no debate.

Its success is what gave Anno the ability to finance Evangelion, and it meant he was also able to pull a lot of 'big talent' for branding purposes - which ofc was intentional, Anno is no fool. Hiring Usagi from Sailor Moon's voice actress Kotono Mitsuishi to be Misato for example, when Sailor Moon was the #1 anime of 1994, is certainly because of her talent but also because of her buzz, and he has a bunch of hires along those lines to make Eva the "oh man the best of the best are all here" kind of show.

(Again fun fact time - you prob know this one - he also tried to bring Kunihiko Ikuhara, Sailor Moon director, onto the animation staff, and as part of his tactics to woo him named Rei Ayanami after Sailor Mars, Ikuhara's favourite SM character that he famously cosplayed. Ikuhara was alas too busy with wrapping up his time on Sailor Moon and forming Be-papas to make Utena to spare the time)

All this meant that by the time Evangelion was getting ready for its Fall 1995 debut, the cover of the April 1995 issue of Newtype looked like this:

And hey, if you want some evidence of the buildup discussed, the first page of the cover feature starts off in 1990, with a discussion of the impact of Nadia:

Even here, once it transitions to discussing Evangelion, Anno is promising "something anime fans have never seen before". It was a common refrain in all the marketing material throughout 1995, that this show was going to be special. The manga adaption actually began print in February of 1995, as a hype builder. The Evangelion team was putting it all on the line.

Also I love that early concept art - the more gundam-esque pilot suits over the plugsuits would have absolutely been my jam, alas.

(This marketing material is more evidence against the mythical "mid-production pivot" theory that fans in the past surmised about Eva's intended story, but a topic for another time)

Still, this is just marketing - who wouldn't say your show will Change Everything, that is your job as a business! For all the inner-otaku hype and rep, Evangelion was definitely targeted at those otaku, and it wasn't marketed to an all-ages demo with wider appeal like Sailor Moon. Anno even remarks in the interview above it would be more of a 'cult hit' compared to Nadia. It had a Wednesday airing slot (at 18:30, not actually super late - another myth, it just had late night re-runs after its evening air slot), not a great time and definitely not a Saturday evening slot like Sailor Moon.

It was a show that instead grew over its airing and broke out of its slot and genre - its finale got audience ratings almost twice that of its premiere (though these numbers are hard to aggregate over different stations). Its about midway through its run that you start getting those "phenomenon of Evangelion" style articles, and when the ending hits the culture critics start jumping in as well and it becomes a true cultural event, and discussion of the show in mainstream magazines starts happening. That wasn't happening in 1995.

I wish I could say it all culminates with End of Evangelion being released and being the #1 film of the year and all that - but while it did well it got its clock absolutely cleaned by Princess Mononoke, which came out the same week. An honourable defeat at least!

Hopefully this is a good answer! Definitely more to be said on the topic, man this would be a great deep dive project...

My surprise graduation party; part I. 🥳

I graduated from six weeks of IOP on Boxing Day (December 26th), my teacher Maggie gave me a box to choose a seashell or stone to remember my time there by ... I chose a rose quartz, my favourite gemstone♡

Robbie @blackangelwhosees and Lizzy Rose @esaucie promised me they would help celebrate my very first graduation ever with me, and I thought it would be a simple little gathering with gluten free cupcakes ... so I was really, really surprised when I came home from a sibling date with Micky @octobernocturne to a really, really beautiful surprise party themed in white-and-pink with our friends Sierra and Savannah @happywarrior59 there, too! 🙀🤍🩷🤍🩷🤍🩷🤍

They were playing Billy Joel on the vinyl as we came home, and there were a lot of sniks!! 😋 And I got pink roses, too!! 🙀 I love getting flowers more than anything!! 🥰 Lizzy Rose gave me a single rose as well, saying, "A rose from a Rose!" - Lizzy's middle name is really Rose, so that was adorbs🌹

All of our lil animal buddy stuffies had lil party hats on, too! =^w^= ♡ I brought my plushies of me (Sailor Mars), my husband Karasu, and Android 17/Steven out to celebrate, too. I woulda gotten Kurama, but I forgot where I put him (I found him the next day when I remembered), so ... me, my Hubs, and our helpers, cos them and my Little Crow Goblins helped me thru IOP (and life) a whole lot♡ I also changed into my Sailor Mars skater dress to feel oh-so-fancy~ :3 ♡

Everyone made me feel very, very special and loved ... 🥹 Lizzy Rose also made an amazing cake with some help from Robbie🎂, chocolate with pink icing making hearts, a hem around the cake, and words on top spelling out "Congrats, Sha!" on it! =^o^= ♡

I also got everyone to sign one of the pink plates (I'll post in another pic) to remember this night, kinda like a guestbook of memories♡ Robbie also got me some gifts, a cross that is a nightlight, one of his button-up shirts he knows I love a lot, and a Gamer's Level Up pop-up stand, super kewl~~ >:3 ♡♡♡

We also got pizzas, with me getting my very own cheese pizza all to myself!! Hehe, that made Nabs(me) happy indeedy! 🍕😋

loving kaeya alberich was like getting swept up in a heated tango of feverish affection and desire.

you were quick to leap over his sugar-coated words and his toothy, charming grins, but found yourself still encapsulated within his arms. for a wielder of ice he was nothing less than burning—the type that overwhelmed you yet left you wanting, craving more.

you'd pull each other into nooks and crannies of any buildings or alleyways or empty rooms, lips colliding before words could formulate in either of your brains. his lithe fingers would search your body, scaling up your sides to find the areas that made you shiver under his touch and melt in his embrace. he'd lean into your touch, tremble when your fingers carded through his hair, but never delved too far lest he drown himself within you.

though he craved you just as you yearned for him, kaeya couldn't bring himself to match your tempo. he found fun and brilliance in the song and dance that became whatever muddled bond the two of you developed: the one where you'd let him snake his arms around your waist and pepper kisses into the crook of your neck, or where you tugged him by the collar into an empty corridor with a burn in your heart that longed for his lips as he followed behind like a drunken sailor with a goofy, toothy smile on his lips.

you ached tremendously for kaeya alberich.

at first, you thought it was only a physical ache; one that would leave your body fuzzy and tingling after he'd kiss you breathless then walk away with that grandson-in-law winning smile of his. the "sweetheart"s he'd croon just by the shell of your ear made you weak in the knees and buckle at his touch.

but then you began to notice the simpler, albeit sillier things.

he laughed with his nose, picked out peas and cast them aside on his plate, and bounced his right leg whenever he was agitated—the last one you discovered while assisting him on an undercover mission with treasure hoarders who spoke less than kindly about the acting grand master and a certain wine tycoon.

above all else, loving kaeya alberich felt sweet. you deemed it love when he pulled away from you and instead of craving more of his lips, you found yourself craving more of him. the man who snored like a bleating sheep and drooled onto his pillow case and who snuck chocolate away to klee when he thought no one was looking (but you were, and let him get away with it because you loved him).

kaeya, similarly, couldn't identify when exactly it was you pulled the wire and let him trip into all that you were. his heart found itself pounding and stuttering whenever you pulled him by the lapels of his jacket and stole his breath away. though he loved the song and dance, he loved how your nose scrunched up whenever you smelled valberry in any form. he loved the puppets you'd make for klee (made out of his socks, but he wasn't about to complain when the shared smiles of you and klee made his day so much more brighter). he loved that you wordlessly took the peas from his plate and dumped them into yours, though he chose to ignore the teasing calls of him being a "big baby that doesn't wanna eat his peas".

he laid awake at night and wondered how it was you managed to wriggle your way into his heart and make a home for yourself. for once, though he felt the familiar biting nip of fear that came with any relation, the burning desire to kiss you not just as someone to be kissed but as his lover overwhelmed him. he couldn't ignore the fear that raged inside of him like a ferocious tiger, but he managed to sit it down, let it listen to his heart and his pleas to kiss you as his.

the next time his lips parted from yours, he uttered, "let me buy you a drink and a meal, hm?"

you being you, completely, hopelessly, and utterly in love, said yes, without hesitation.

"i can't promise you gold and riches," his hands held yours tightly as you both stood in his office, singular eye bathed in sincerity and love glimmering in the moonlight, "but i will do my best to ensure that the smile i love so much always remains on your face."

you let him cup your face and accepted him wholly, wordlessly through an embrace.
