Avatar The Last Airbender Live Action: Is It Actually Good?
So I actually haven't finished my review of this show yet because I haven't finished the entire season yet. But I'm excited about it so here's a little excerpt from what I'm working on right now.
Character Changes
I’m going to try really hard not to let nostalgia ruin my enjoyment of this show. Because so far, it’s honestly not bad. Sure, I keep comparing it to the original every two seconds but if I had no knowledge of the cartoon, I think I could reasonably enjoy this show. And so in that vein, let’s talk about some of the character changes that happened. Some of it I like, some of it I don’t.
Give Me Back Sokka’s Misogyny
Tumblr media
Listen, as much as I despise misogynistic teenage boys, there’s such a thing called character development. It’s a very important part of compelling storytelling. And Sokka’s getting the misogyny beaten out of him was a compelling storyline. Yes, it’s a character flaw. But of course a traumatised teenage boy who has never left his tiny town, who had been forced into a leadership role would have some kooky ideas. All it took for him to grow and accept reality was to come out of the narrow town he lived in.
But in the live action, he’s just sexist in a subtler way. Don’t think I don’t see the way he speaks to Katara. He may not be telling her she’s better of sewing and cooking because of her gender, but he definitely doesn’t treat her as an equal. Or what about how he acts around Suki at the start. You’re telling me this boy doesn’t have any misogynistic ideas? Then why is he working under the assumption that he could take down a seasoned warrior with absolutely no formal training?
His actions don’t make sense if you take away his original characterisation. Sokka started off as a misogynistic twat! That’s why he treated Katara the way he did. That’s why he got his arse kicked by Suki. Otherwise, his actions don’t make sense.
I’m Not Gonna Lie: Suki’s Hilarious!
Tumblr media
I know that cartoon Suki was a smooth talker but I honestly love the idea of a version of her who’s been isolated for most of her life, finds a boy she likes and figures the best way to impress him is to beat the shit out of him. It’s honestly adorable. And I like the fact that she has an active, involved mother. She’s a teenage girl! Why was there no parental figure around?
Sure, it’s a kids cartoon. There are going to be things that don’t make sense. But Suki deserves a mum! It validates her as a child: which is what she is. She’s still learning and growing. Sure, she’s an elite warrior but she’s also a teenage girl: a line that is unfortunately missing from the live action. Suki is unapologetically a girl who is still finding her way in the world. And she’s navigating the complexities of a war. Of course she’s not going to be the most functional teen.
But I still wish she got to beat the misogyny out of Sokka.
Let Aang Be A Child
Tumblr media
One of my favourite parts about Aang was his childishness. He cared for humanity, he was its protector, he was the bridge between the human and spirit yaddy yaddy yadda. But he was also a 12 year old boy. He was a 12 year old boy who enjoyed tricking and lying to people. He was fun!
In his place, we now have a serious child who never lets loose. And it’s honestly messing with the story. The writers are having to create extra plot to justify certain scenes: ie the gang sliding down the mail delivery system. It doesn’t make sense. Aang isn’t a serious character 90% of the time. But that means that when he is serious, when the fun is gone, we know something is about to go down. We’re at the edge of our seats. The tension is palpable.
But this version of him is all work and no play. That’s not our Aang. It also means they had to give an entirely new reason for him getting stuck in the ice. Aang’s regret over running away is a huge part of his characterisation. There are entire episodes dedicated to his guilt. In this version, where he tried to come back, it doesn’t have as much impact.
Also, the fight scenes with him are kind of boring this way. I adored watching this 12 year old boy take on grown adults plus a few whingy teenagers all while driving them mental. He’s not meant to be someone who just gives a dramatic speech before every fight. He’s someone who winds his opponent up and uses their own force against them.
Give Me Back Zuko’s Honour Talk
Tumblr media
Seriously! I’m at like episode 4 or 5 right now and this boy hasn’t mentioned his honour once! That’s just not right. The boy should be mentioning his honour at least once an episode. Otherwise it’s just not Zuko. Come on, this is an angsty teenager. Where is his angst?
Katara Deserves To Be Angry
Tumblr media
I’m not going to lie, I preferred cartoon Katara. Sure, she could be irritating at times. But she’s a product of her environment. She’s fiercely loyal and quick to trust but once you break her trust, she is your worst nightmare. She would sooner drown you than forgive you. That’s why Zuko’s redemption had such an impact in the end. He had to earn forgiveness and prove, again and again, that he had truly changed.
This version is so repressed. She should be bringing up the trauma of losing her mother constantly. Instead, she’s gone several episodes before we even truly understand what she went through. And the fights she has with Sokka are just lame. All she does is yell “I’m not a little girl anymore!” Cartoon Katara would never. Cartoon Katara broke an iceberg in half over anger she felt at Sokka’s sexist comments. Cartoon Katara challenged a master water bender. She just comes across as someone who is all talk and no action.
She doesn’t have the rage that she needs. Sure, Katara is one of the kindest people in the show but she’s also incredibly maternal. And to be maternal isn’t just to be loving and trusting, it is also to be a fighter. Katara was willing to fight not just for her friends, but also for herself. This is a shadow of who she was originally.
Kyoshi’s Increased Involvement Is Always A Positive
Tumblr media
I LOVE the Kyoshi novels. So it’s great to get Kyoshi’s backstory within the main storyline. And especially when she overtakes Aang’s body and takes on Zhao and his men? Amazing! Give her more scenes please! Actually, no, get Ozai to come into one of her shrines and get her to overtake Aang’s body, guarantee the war would be over in seconds.

One tiny detail in The Owl House I always loved is Camilla seeing Luz' video diary in Thanks to Them and reaching out to try to comfort her daughter on the screen when she's talking about her dad dying
Major flaw in their relationship: they didn't communicate cause they thought that's what's best:
-Camilla because she lets her insecurity about how she grew up (nerdy, free spirited, excitable and compassionate) and how this was browbeat out of her fight AGAINST her natural instincts to let her daughter thrive
-Luz because she's a ND-coded mess who internalised people's objections to her behaviour as something seriously flawed within her and she wants to make her mother's life easier with everything that happened with her Dad and also be someone who can not stress her mom out as well as find ways to express herself in SOME way-ANY way
It's when they finally talk and Luz realises she just needed to be understood as a gifted, funny, amazingly warm and friendly person that her mother *ALWAYS* saw her as that shows not only the strength of the relationship but a core theme in TOH which is that society drives us away from our potential and realisation that we are loved.
It's a rejection of social norms creating imposter syndrome told through a teenager AND an adult and I fucking love this show

something so [?] about the way reagan and rand sat around on the couch or wherever drinking and being dero together. the way he slouched around in his dressing gown all the time and demanded her attention. And like how despite reagan's misgivings and being like used/manipulated by him and the differences in what tehy cared about they settled into an odd kind of synergy anyway, where theyd both sit back and be weary/pissed about the world, together.
when reagan chose him in the finale and defended him from myc telling him to fix his fucking issues (that was actually pretty funny lmao) how like used to being let down and managing her expectations she was and yet how much she cared about him and looked out for him... like she probably was long past wanting normal parental attention and love from, well, either of her parents . in childhood and probs hasnt expressed that vulnerable need for love from them since then either but it still shows up.. in the way that shes still there for both of them, long-suffering and weary and exasperated and disappointed but still there to manage their issues separately and together. and the way she probably found some comfort in going home at the end of the day and cracking open a cold one w her dad - maybe even felt like out of everyone in the world he was the closest to understanding her. but he never even saw her as her own person.. he felt affection towards her. probably saw/sees her as his cute little kid but thats as far as i think it ever goes. he sees her as enmeshed w him
how not only was erasing orrin from her memory erasing the knowledge of the only real friend she had (as a kid at least) but also putting himself in the position of the person she was closest to. so in the end even the miniscule way she felt emotionally connected/vulnerable w him wasnt even her choice at all

The Card Games Overview - Part 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"I would have wanted to be Joriiiiiiis, to be able to do my shoooow!" - The Hypermage's Blues
Joris, as discreet as he is efficient, is the emissary of the king of Bonta.
Already we're starting strong with the first card here, because, and you will never believe this, — the implications for lore this has are huge.
youtube
It is a parody of this song, "Le blues du Businessman", which implies that: (and I beg you to forgive me for taking this silly little song reference so seriously. I am neurodivergent about this. It gives me pleasure to overanalyse things)
Within the World of Twelve, this song is about being a huppermage, and the pain that comes with it. (They are called here "hypermages", because this was their name in 2009-2010, when their lore was still being developed).
Someone in the huppermage class community has formed a parasocial relationship with Joris?? Imagine namedropping princess Diana in your depression song.
It makes me wonder what other famous huppermages' names could be used in the World of Twelve version of this song. "I would have wanted to be Juliiiith, so I could shout who I am!!" or something??? Would Bakara be name-dropped (actually, she probably would... she does have a parasocial fan in Dofus MMO, despite probably having been dead of old age for centuries)? Does this song make Joris cringe so much he almost dies?
This seems very rebellious, considering huppermages have what seems to be a very... conservative, rigid in-culture, that is against outside influences, and somewhat in favour of in-group hazing, (Wakfu quests — professors' reactions to students being attacked within the huppermage temple amounting to "you'll get over it." + what I've heard about institutionalized huppermage on huppermage violence that happens in Julith et Jahash comic.)
The other thing that makes it seem rebellious is the fact that Joris probably isn't welcome among his own people, with his independent personality, relation to Julith (this one is a mixed reason: during his youth, she was hated, — but as of Dofus MMO times, she was seemingly a figure that was revered just as strongly as Jahash, among huppermages), and affinity for other classes' (ecaflips) cultures and beliefs.
Another lyric that includes the word "artist", "I would have wanted to be an artist, to have the world to remake, to be able to be an anarchist, and live like a millionaire" makes me insane in this context. This fits him so well because this fucker doesn't give a shit about huppermage rules (he hits people with a log to give them concussions instead of using magic), and lives like a millionaire (smokes expensive blunts while drinking Chateau Lafite Rothschild in his nasty room filled with plushies and cartoon figurines).
Tumblr media
These are the only two crepinlore adjacent cards in the Wakfu TCG, so, we will move onto Krosmaster:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You can't just tell me that, by ecaflip standards, Atcham is considered disabled and expect me to be normal about it. This confirms a lot of what I already thought: Atcham feels scorned for a multitude of reasons:
People think he's bad looking, he can't have a romantic relationship (if he didn't have Kerubim to blame for everything, god knows he would have become an incel. And I don't mean that as a joke. I mean it in the "blaming people being awful to you bc of your looks/neurodivergency/social skills — on other, random people, because the pain of being unable to change your situation is too much" way. He already does that. In canon.)
His lack of fur actually causes issues with his health. (we didn't need a card to tell that, but feels good to have it acknowledged. Just google how vulnerable sphynx cats are to temperatures. I feel bad for him.)
He feels... "uncute". Catboy body dysmorphia is both real, and fucking depressing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There isn't any lore here, but I want to acknowledge something: Isn't it weird that he never wears pants as an old man, except in his first 2 official arts in Krosmaster? Isn't it whacky that he speaks in one episode as if he does wear pants? I am haunted by this, folks.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
His dice have a wrong design on the first art here. Sorry for noticing insane things like that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I have so many thoughts, and none of them coherent.
The scales, the fangs, Atcham's sword, the fact that it's called "draconian crisis"... I am in loves. Also "strange little boy" is on par with other things Joris gets called in canon. Like "funny little man" and "weirdly endearing for a curtain twitcher".
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
An error I noticed: he isn't wearing the tights/stockings he wears in Aux Tresors de Kerubim. I can see that because they coloured his knees the same colour as his shoulders/hands.
(Yes, yet another insane "I had watched Dofus Aux Tresors for 83492734 times" detail only I would ever notice.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He is so, so,,...
A discussion with a friend made me want to present to you the next scenario: imagine Joris, being offered to play boufbowl as an adult. He would say "No, I shan't, I really shan't", before defeating everyone in record time. Just because he's smug like that, and loves to show off how cool and awesome he is, but in a subtle, quiet way. Athletes unironically hate him.
He should listen to Speedfreaks FM while running around.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Big news for Joris Pain enjoyers: Grougalorasalar can inflict nightmares upon people. And personally, I want him to have done this to Joris. Repeatedly.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I have a lot of emotions about her...
I wish more people took her alcoholism as more than a joke. I think it's fucking depressing that she's around 20yo, already an alcoholic, doing the whole huppermage thing just because of her brother, and the pressure of other people, and the only other stress relief she has besides alcoholism, is Violence. Jesus fucking christ.
I will probably write many more words on this topic, when we get to the movie, or to a particular comic, — but that will have to wait.

One headcanon in Spongebob I'll always have is that Mr Krabs and Plankton don't actually hate each other, nor does Plankton actually want the formula, it's more like Perry and Doofenschmirtz where they don't say it aloud but they enjoy the conflict and drama they share, like a form of bonding.

I don’t know how to explain it but people overanalysing the plot of Engage with beautiful, deep hot takes such as “it’s unrealistic they could get away so quickly because manoeuvring a ship ackchyually takes hours” give me the exact same vibe as those making 4 hours long videos to pick appart children cartoons on YT

I'm so sick of writing this essay every day.
It WAS out of character, but it was written, so you have to find Sam's truth in it, as Jared once said. Everyone goes straight to, "well, Dean was ANGRY that Sam didn't look for him, so Sam was WRONG TO CHOOSE TO DO THAT." Do we honestly think that Sam stood there in that lab, wide-eyed and hyperventilating in front of Crowley and his taunting, thinking "Well damn, Dean's gone, I'm going to CHOOSE not to look for him." Not being facetious, because he might've done (it is, after all, the rational choice considering all the harm to creation they've caused as a team (and that's also kind of the truth Sam offers to Dean, when he later tries and fails to explain it to him).
So *was* it a conscious plan to offhandedly abandon his brother? I think not. Because we're shown throughout the seasons that Sam is usually such an analytical, practical person, and insanely single-minded and vengeful when it comes to saving Dean - even in the direst of straits, Sammy keeps his head; hits the lore, solves the problem. In character, he would've found out he was in Purgatory, he would've summoned Death and begged him for another random eclipse (another of which, by the way, had already been outright refused).
So why does nobody ever offer Sam grace and consider *why was he out of character?* It's because he was reeling. He'd lost everyone he'd ever loved, he was still absolutely swamped by guilt, head swimming with Hell trauma that had nearly killed him. He was running on fumes already at the end of season 7. He had no Bunker at that point, no comfort, no Bobby anymore. The angels were d1cks. No demons would make a deal. All he had left, and all he could do, was go back to the car. "I fixed up the Impala, and I drove." The scenes where he hit the dog, he was absolutely frantic. Reminded again how much pain and destruction he causes. Amelia was a lifeline, an (unhappy imo) accident - she just happened. He wasn't chasing happiness, or a normal life at that point. Just running.
So thoughts of Dean, the Life, Kevin, everything unfinished would come back and poke at his brain... At that point, do you stay hiding, buried, living in a motel, clinging to someone who makes you a birthday cake, fixing sinks, not being traumatised, abandoned, hospitalised, killed? Or do you give yourself an shake and say "c'mon Sam, stand up and find your brother, have the audacity to insert yourself back into a world where your *very existence* killed him, made his life hell, made his death literal hell, killed your own mother, father, the love of your life, millions of others, caused apocalypse, destroyed Kevin's life, got *his* girlfriend killed...
He, of course, can't say all that to Dean. How can he?
"we promised we weren't going to look for each other" - it's easier - prove it was a rational choice. "I met a girl and decided not to hunt anymore" - ok, Dean will be angry, but Dean's anger is usual, normal, and easier to deal with than facing Dean's disappointment in Sam's unravelling.
I might be overanalysing and giving him too much credit. But he deserves it and this is a Sam-positive post. And if you watch the scene with Cas and Sam in the cartoon world in Hunteri Heroici, you can *see* it. His ranting at Fred about living in a dream world isn't about Fred. It's all about his own anger at himself, taking on board yet more guilt, because he can never do anything right. He's more than out of character. He's an absolute mess.

i get that being recommended cartoons for toddlers when you’re asking for normal shows is annoying and that people on here overanalyse media for babies in a way that makes no sense but now i’ve seen people complaining about adults watching things for kids like “this guy said he watches bluey sometimes 🤨🤨 why do you do that” it has 0 effects on your or my life if an adult watches bluey on their own sometimes. i don’t care. shoo

Theory addendum: why Stolitz will not in fact be Stockholm syndrome.
Hi, guys, So I made a theory response yesterday (you can check it out here: https://www.tumblr.com/thenotificationmachine/708793464871092225/theory-response-why-stolitz-might-actually-be?source=share) to @stolitzy's defence of Stolitz not being Stockholm syndrome and... I think my response was TOO effective. Not only did I defend my view, I also shattered her faith in Stolitz to the point that she had a personal crisis. So yeah, NOT a good move in hindsight. After some reflection and a talk with her, I've decided to amend my theory and say that Stolitz won't be Stockholm syndrome. "But how?" I hear you ask, " as you pointed out, all the signs are there! And stolitzy had no defence for that!" You (and my theory) are right about Stolitz having all (or at least most of) the hallmarks of Stockholm syndrome, but as stolitzy pointed out in her initial post, there actually is a good argument for why it isn't Stockholm syndrome. Don't misunderstand me, all the signs are there and if normal logic was applied it probably WOULD develop into that, but it isn't that because Viv, the Spindlehorse team and the vast majority of Helluva's fanbase will NEVER ALLOW IT to be that. They all want Stolitz to be this 100% perfect ship with no blemishes given time, and so the current miscommunication is likely the most trouble the ship will ever be in given how quickly the writers jumped from the emotional turmoil in "the Circus" to the overly saccharine stuff in "Seeing Stars".
Call it bad storywriting or an act of mercy for the ship depending on your preferences, but whatever the case may be, Stolitz might end up going down as the Stockholm syndrome ship that never was.
...Or not, since I have to confess that I've overanalysed the hallucination scene from "Truth Seekers" before, more specifically the appearances of the antagonists...
Tumblr media
Take Mr. Shitty Clown over here, for example. Given how he's styled like an old rubber hose cartoon and Blitz's reactions to him and Robo-Mr. Shitty Clown, I theorised that he's like this because Blitz just sees him as a bouncy irritant/pest who lives to entertain others, when in fact he's seemingly like this just because Viv and co. liked the idea of that style. As such, my analysis of Striker's grainy/greyscaled appearance being due to Blitz's perception of him being darkened by his assassination attempt on Stolas was also wrong. But the BIGGEST (and most painful to admit) mistake was my analysis of Verosika's appearance in the scene.
Tumblr media
You see, I looked at how she had the most "realistic" appearance (in terms of the show's usual animation style), visible tear streaks, the fact that she got the closest to Blitz out of all of them and the fact that Blitz's eyes are filled with a blue line that looks suspiciously like they're filling up with tears and came to the logical conclusion that Verosika was the closest to Blitz romantically and that in this moment he understood how much he hurt her and was genuinely remorseful. When all this analysis was added to hallucination Stolas holding him on a chain and him blushing on it and I immediately jumped to the Stockholm syndrome conclusion. This all seems like a perfectly logical conclusion, simply thwarted by the fact that Viv and co. hadn't looked at the scene as deeply as my theorising self, until you take one more very important factor into account; my MASSIVE bias towards Verosika. Yeeeaaahhh... So I have to admit that both this analysis and the entire "Stolitz is Stockholm syndrome" theory was likely unconsciously influenced by me being a Verosika stan and thus believing that her genuine loving relationship with Blitz (which the latter, not her, sabotaged) deserves a second shot once he goes through some character growth and that Stolitz is unfair robbery. As such I was always going to be biased against the ship and also missed the obvious sunlight behind hallucination Stolas, which stolitzy pointed out symbolises how Blitz views him as his hope. Then again, this could ALSO be proof of the Stockholm syndrome theory being correct regardless of my bias; guess it's up to you to decide. But regardless of whether my overanalysis, Verosika bias and preference for Blitzika over Stolitz disprove the Stockholm syndrome theory or not, the latter ship will still never be Stockholm syndrome since, like with the Orks in Warhammer 40k being able to breathe in space until they're told they need spacesuits to do so, the collective Stolitz fanbase (including the Spindlehorse team and Viv herself)'s collective power of belief will make sure it never turns into such a thing and instead miraculously develops into a stable, healthy relationship.

I recently rewatched 'your mother and mine' and really it made me think about just how little it seems rose thought of herself deep down. imo it represents her internal conflict so well.
the only perspective garnet has on pink & rose pre-rebellion is that which she was told in rose's anecdotes. rose told these stories about pink to garnet. she told garnet that pink diamond was irredeemable, wicked, careless, and cowardly, when in reality it was pink at the heart of the rebellion all along.
yes, on one hand you could say that of course rose would have to make pink out to be this way. she had to find a way to justify 'shattering her,' despite being so strongly against shattering gems before.
on the other, the other crystal gems wouldn't have needed an explanation, not one in so much depth. they were devoted; trusting. but the way rose chose to tell the story completely encapsulates how she was treated by the other diamonds, and by extension how that reflected on how she saw herself. her struggle to keep up with both sides, keep everyone happy. her struggle in deciding whether to do what she really believed in or what she'd been told for her whole life is right. she finally had the chance to prove herself to the people she had spent potentially eons trying to prove herself to, and instead everything came tumbling down around her.
and rose did believe that she'd truly left the past behind her; after everything, after leaving homeworld, after fighting for the earth, after fighting for gems, she saw 'rose,' whoever that was, as someone people cared about. yet part of her still saw herself through how the other diamonds treated pink. careless. undeserving of trust. bad.

Omg! I can imagine the other Disney villains also adding to that validation. They are oddly supportive group sometimes and given they all different - making everything mouse size to Ratigain would be in their wheelhouse.
that is so sweet!!!! you know that scene from 'Twisted', the Starkid musical, with all the Disney villains comforting Ja'far? that's what i'm envisioning hahaha you know, for both of the villains i've enjoyed recently (Dave the Octopus and Professor Ratigan) i've noticed the potential for trans allegory and speciesist othering in their narratives. of course this was never the intention for Ratigan in particular, as his insistence at being referred to as a mouse is played as his being delusional/something to laugh at (which, reading as a trans allegory today, is obviously offensive and poor rep). but can we consider what sort of a society exists in The Great Mouse Detective, or that Ratigan grew up in, that there is such a high prejudice against rats? i find it hard (and in the context of the world, offensive) to believe that all rats are just 'bad' because they are rats, even though this is the stance the movie seems to be pushing. by the same token, i don't want to insinuate that Ratigan insists upon being called a mouse because of societal othering as a whole. i think you can read these allegories for Ratigan in one of two ways; a) Ratigan is dysphoric with his biological status as a rat and wishes to be referred to as a mouse, something which mouse society of the time doesn't accept (and which is unfortunately played for laughs) or b) Ratigan wishes to be referred to as a mouse because it offers him increased social status/a way to somewhat escape the apparent stigma towards rats in his universe i'm unsure of the extended lore as i've only seen the movie, but i feel that Ratigan's 'I'm a mouse!' narrative was such an intriguing character trait to drop, and then they never explored it except to use it as a reason to portray him as unhinged...i wonder what insight and depth we could have gained into Ratigan's character if this one little nugget of character information was developed further

Episode 32 - Pupuce's Life
Finally, an episode where I won't have to say anything At All.
Tumblr media
To extract some value from this ep despite how it is kinda boring, I will overanalyse this room now.
Firstly, Kerubim is so orphancoded. He's so old and sleeping on a bunk bed with no lower bunk.
I like to think that, in the orphanage, Kerubim and Atcham got into bloodied battles where they scratched the shit out of each other over who gets the top bunk, and due to not being hairless Kerubim always won and bullied him into sleeping on the lower one.
Tumblr media
I like to think it was one of Atcham's many tragic backstories. Like that's when The Darkness truly began to grow.
Tumblr media
I genuinely think it's fucked that Joris, at 7 years old, is sleeping in a cat bed. But also, that's not even one tenth of the most insanely evil things about their household.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
They have so many potatos and so much bread... Heaven on earth.
Ever since I mentioned it in one of my earlier posts, I had wanted to elaborate just a bit on some other evidence for my headcanon (or, well, pretty-much-canon?) of Joris being a night owl, and this moment of Joris just blatantly oversleeping is as good time as any to bring it up:
We often see Joris awake at night, or staying up very late without any issues.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Perhaps, it is due to Kerubim himself often staying up late, and also due to, y'know, the child neglect that was probably happening before Simone, that he developed a circadian rhythm that has him being so okie-dokie staying up late.
Tumblr media
I won't even point out that there's a random knife on the floor. I am fucking numb to the sheer neglect in this household by now. Kerubim could leave rat poison in Joris's bed and I would be like "oh that silly goofster!"
But I will point out that it seems that Kerubim often leaves Joris alone with Simone, and I will be real — in my heart of hearts I know that this fucker left Joris home alone since he was like four whenever he needed to do something. Or he'd be like "uhhh go across the street and sit at miss Julie's, brb" and be gone for hours. He probably left him home alone over overnight too. You can't tell me I'm wrong.
It would be out of character for him to get someone to actually babysit. Especially with how shit their home was.
Tumblr media
"No, little pupuce, don't go into SCP-914!!"
"Oh mon dieu, c'est un scp full of evil clonen !"
Tumblr media
Kerubim is insane. All these pictures of his ex, and none of his son. He really is insane.
Tumblr media
I think Kerubim still draws, at least in some capacity. No other reason for there to be oil paints in their home.
Though perhaps Kerubim is into the idea of his son getting poisoned by expensive-ass professional-grade paint. Maybe he's just into that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"ASTRUB CITY" repeated twice. + "Dofus Pets 2" (obviously.)
Also, jellyvision movie theatres are real. And so are traffic lights. Though I didn't bother screenshotting the second thing.

Oh this one is even better than that time we found out that someone at Ankama called a person named Emilie a bad word in this kids cartoon. You'll love this.
Tumblr media
I'm sorry french person from 2013, but I've been translating this text with a huge grin on my face. You ARE the interesting find.
Tumblr media
This ad is so beautiful. Thank you, Kerubim.

The man might pretend that he doesn't like Pupuces as a species all he wants, but his actions speak louder than his words. He's never beating the love allegations.
Tumblr media
They are all so bad at taking photos... Also! This confirms that at least a Single photo of Joris, as well as Simone, is on a wall somewhere in the house. Big day for regaining belief in Kerubim's normalcy.
This says "ANNIV PUPUCE", which finally made me realize, that there are three champagne glasses on the table, one in Joris's hand, as well as some weird looking food with candles in it (probably pupuce's food?).
This changes EVERYTHING. Kerubim is no longer an evil fucking cat/enemy #1 of this blog. Kerubim has been forgiven.

The fact that she just so effortlessly puts that tiara into that box. I mean, if that was me, I'd be spending a good few seconds looking back and forth between the tiara and the box thinking "will this fit in there? It was just on my head, the box isn't *that* big..."
But Amity does not do any of this. She is so deep in thought that she just inserts the tiara into her tardis box without a second thought or glance about how the tiara and the box are in fact the same size.

Haggar’s Greatest Weapon: Part II
Tumblr media
That’s the end of that now, right? Wrong.
I still have questions.
1) How did Kuron have Shiro’s memories right up until his “death”?
Tumblr media
“Since my fight with Zarkon, I’ve been here. My physical form was gone. I existed on another realm. I died, Keith.”
In order for Kuron to have Shiro’s memories, Haggar had to have copied or transplanted his essence directly before death. This implies that Haggar was responsible for Shiro’s disappearance, not Zarkon. Furthermore, Haggar could not have started operation Kuron unless she knew that Shiro was already dealt with. So how did she deal with him? When? Why?
2) What was the purpose of all those clones?
Tumblr media
There were implied to be hundreds!
And did Haggar have Kuron destroy them because they were all faulty? Because her plan for them fell through? Because she was holding a grudge against Shiro? Why waste resources storing all these useless extras?
What would Haggar, adviser to the emperor and most powerful witch of the known (and conquered) universe, want with an army of Shiros? What makes Shiro so special?
3) When did she clone Shiro?
Tumblr media
Note that the incubated clones lack Shiro’s signature scar, robotic arm, and white hair. This makes Kuron unique, and implies that these were not created with the purpose of infiltration.
Unless she took Shiro’s body at the end of the end of Voltron’s battle with Zarkon, Haggar had to have cloned him from when he was still her prisoner. This timing determines whether she was cloning Shiro because he was a human, The Champion, or The Black Paladin. Whether he was intended for Voltron or something else...
4) Will Haggar continue making clones?
Tumblr media
“You’ve continued the work I started all that time ago and have indeed seen it through to heights I could have only imagined. Your never-ending pursuit of knowledge is truly admirable,” Honerva to Lotor regarding his collection of pure quintessence.
Haggar (now Honerva) has accessed Oriande and, through it, the secrets of Altean alchemy. Will Haggar replace the Shiro clone army? Or does she have bigger and better monsters to make? Like the ‘super weapon’ Krolia released on the Galra station? Clones of other beloved characters?* Or less loved characters such as her late husband? Occam’s Razor suggests the latter but who knows?
I hope this all gets addressed in the upcoming season!
Bonus Crack Theory:
*PUT ON YOUR TINFOIL HAT,
Kuron was a very OBVIOUS clone. Like, suspiciously obvious. Almost like he was a distraction from another, more subtle spy...
Tumblr media
Consider: Matt was also a clone.
He was captured alongside Shiro and was also an eligible gladiator. Then after Shiro injured him, he was allegedly transferred to a camp. And after about a year, Matt was conveniently discovered and rescued by rebels.
Another year after that, Pidge tracks down his grave and assumes him dead. However, information hidden in the marker takes Pidge to a spy base. Here, she discovers Matt collecting intelligence, allegedly for the rebellion. By this point, Matt is far more adept at fighting, and confident enough to take on a bounty hunter with his fists.
When Matt breaks into “the scary lady’s” poorly guarded prison for super intelligent Galra slaves (hint hint) to look for his father, he comes across a cell that the audience doesn’t get to see inside. Instead, we see his frozen face. Many have speculated that this is because Matt saw something or someone that isn’t supposed to be revealed yet. He is conveniently alone when this happens.
Then after seeing his father off, Matt disappears again. He is allegedly with the other rebels and hasn’t been heard from since. This happens right before Kuron is shown to be Haggar’s spy and so the audience was distracted from Matt’s disappearance.
So where is Matt? Who is Matt? And I’ll do you one better, why is Matt?

while getting the frames for this post, i was struck by how effective this scene is despite being so brief.
judy insists that nick should leave, which is the safest option for both him and the whole city. she’s not a dumb bunny. she knows she’s risking death, but it’s worth it to do the right thing.
nick refuses. he can’t bring himself to abandon her, and instead trusts they’ll “think of something”, relying on blind faith.
in other words? in this moment, judy is smart enough to make the cold, logical choice. nick is the mushy idiot who trusts his heart instead of his head.
goddamn i love this movie.
