honestly just in general it's very exhausting to try to analyze media that is literally meant to be analyzed, only for the replies to be filled with people arguing not against your analysis, but against the premise that the media can be analyzed at all.

Just thinking about how Adrien, who was taught by his father conditional love and that he needed to behave perfectly in order to be shown any affection or attention, is given the very opposite display of love in his relationship with Marinette. How, he knows and has the validation that Marinette has fallen for both of his identities, that she loves each compartmentalized and individual part of him. How she not only loves him when he's silly and when he's more somber but enjoys and appreciates those sides of him. How Marinette's love for him oozes out with every gift and kind gesture, to the point where Adrien doesn't even need her to tell him she loves him but she works on being able to do so anyways. How Marinette is a comfort for him and he can be vulnerable with her without having to fear any kind of retribution. How Adrien finally has a relationship in which he feels safe and loved and doesn't need to meet any sort of standard or "deserve" anything to get security and affection from her

Andre disowning Chloe is such a disgusting cop-out, oh my God. And not even for the writers, no, I’ve talked enough about how much the writing of season 5 is really badly thought out. It’s a disgusting cop-out for Andre.

We’ve seen that he apparently had dreams to be a film director and to make the world a better place, but had to give it up to “fit in” with his family. He became the mayor literally just to impress Audrey and hates his current life because of her and his “selfish, heartless daughter”. So now he wants out. And he gets out by... giving it all up.

And, yes, if there are toxic people in your life, people who make you give up your dreams to pursue them and further destroy your life by disrespecting you and treating you like shit, then drop them. But this isn’t just his wife that he could divorce, no. This is his daughter we are talking about.

Chloe, no matter how terrible she is, is still a product of his own shit parenting. If he didn’t want a heartless and selfish daughter, maybe he should have actually put effort into raising her rather than just throwing money at her every time she cried. The fact of the matter is that she’s like every other child on the planet: she didn’t ask to be brought into the world. It was his own decision to have a child, but when it got too hard, he just gets to give up??

And we’re supposed to side with him as the victim?

My brother in Christ, it is your fault your daughter’s a fucking asshole. It is your mess to fix and your problem to deal with. You can’t just say “well, I tried” and drop her like that. What happened to parental responsibility? To taking care of your goddamn kids and helping them through their childhood? Andre didn’t try for a second to help his daughter become a better person and just put his own shortcomings on her “nature”.

And what’s worse, is that he gets “awarded” custody of Zoe. He gets rewarded for being a shit parent by getting another kid to fuck up with. I feel terrible for Zoe. She’s still a kid and deserves at least one loving parent, not some idiot who failed at both jobs he was given throughout his adulthood: being a mayor and a father. It isn’t fair to Chloe, and it especially is not fair to Zoe.

Why are they being punished because Andre Bourgeois can’t take responsibility for a goddamn thing in his life?

Some people are so reluctant to accept that the crew is bad at writing and planning and is pretty much making everything up as they go along like. I saw someone genuinely asking why Marinette was able to make out with Adrien immediately post confession in Chat Blanc and !!!! It’s because the crew didn’t plan for her to have trauma at that point! It’s because said trauma is just a way for them to kill two birds with one stone, waving away the disfunctional adri//nette dynamic and solidifying how evil Chloé is before writing her off! It’s one thing to try figuring out in-universe explanations (which is imo a pointless endeavor with all the contradictions in the show) but to genuinely still believe the crew knows what they’re doing and they’re playing 5D chess with this series and have every little detail planned out ahead of time is just-

1) I’ve been pondering it for a while and I think one of the biggest reasons for Maribug's divisiveness is that the show presents these two contradictory narratives where they want you to think she's likeable and competent enough bc she's the protag but they also want you to think she's wrong and has terrible judgement bc she keeps making bad decisions about everything all the time without allowing for her to have consistent growth so they can keep giving her “lessons” and flaws moving forward.

2) It comes to a point where you’re either gonna find her unlikeable bc of how much the show wants us to believe she’s incapable or feel like the whole narrative against her is bs.

Yeah basically but the narrative has pushed it to the point where it puts her capabilities as a hero into question with how a lot of characters and the narrative itself criticizes her “mistakes”. I mean, if they lose because of her choices, is she really fit to be a hero? And it’s dumb because this girl tries so much harder than any other character and would be subject to so much criticism if she made any other choice regardless. She can’t win. Not against the other characters and not against the narrative. The universe has her set up as this tragic hero who just loses and loses despite her best efforts and we’re somehow supposed to keep cheering for her despite the lack of payoff.
