When they ran away from Snyder they just ran off stage so we were robbed of the chase scene :( it would have looked silly on such a small stage tho
Holy fucking shit medda
Davey is casted so so perfect
Katherine is so sassy holy shit
Uh. Bottom line was. Um. yeah so the guy who played Pulitzer actually spoke most of his lines that were supposed to be sung (and when he did sing it was pretty clear WHY this was) but he was good acting wise
Bunson said that the newsies will have to sell 25 more papers to make the same amount, which is mathematically incorrect sir
When the strike first started, after the union JUST voted to make it official and Jack was hyping everyone up, Davey was standing off to the side taking deep breaths and tapping his fingers on his legs and doing a couple of grounding techniques my therapist gave me for panic attacks (holy shit his actor was so autistic and definitely had anxiety and he also graduated from my high school like 5 years ago which was wild to see him again)
Les doesn't just say "I have a pencil!" he said "I have a pencil AT HOME" which to me really emphasizes just how impoverished the other newsies are. Even the ones who have homes don't have simple items (such as pencils) in those homes. Les isn't the only one of them who happens to HAVE a pencil. He's the only one who OWNS a pencil.
I wanna write a medda origin story (random thought I had)
During Jack and Davey's little dance thing in WWK Jack turned the wrong way and Davey had to nudge him to turn facing the back instead of the audience
There was a newsie in the ensemble who was so fucking pissed the entire show, especially during WWK, he put everything he had into that it was crazy shout out to him
At the end of WWH, Katherine started typing really dramatically and it actually looked more like autistic hand flapping (which I kinda love)
Davey talks with his hands a lot
The first scab looked like he was forced into this (not the stabbing, the show) he didn't throw down his papers, he dropped them and went "I'm with you 😐" and walked off stage
When they're striking and then weisel and the delanceys interrupt their songs, they didn't all stop at the same time and the last one you heard was Davey stopping after everyone
The delanceys took crutchie's crutch and literally like sabbed him with it before they dragged him off
Crutchie yelled for Finch as he was being dragged away
When crutchie was taken, the stage was completely empty except for him and the delanceys
During Santa Fe Jack was hyperventilating and he fell to his knees on the first couple notes. When he stood back up he kept leaning and looking over the railing like he was going to jump.
After he hit the last note of Santa Fe, he fell to his hands and knees near the edge and started wailing until the house lights came on for intermission
Les was really good omfg and it's apparently his first show like he's SO good it's insane
I got a newspaper purse during intermission :DD
ACT II
After viewing the program, the actor for Crutchie's day job is a MAILMAN (modern day newsboy pretty much)
Finch was laying face down on the table the entire time before Katherine walked in at the start of act II, including for the delivery of his line, "why do old people talk?"
The tap dancing was pretty good actually
When Crutchie says "so far they ain't brung us no food... Ha. Ha." he laughed like "heheh"
The music cut out earlier than in the original during letter from the refuge (it didn't stop, it just paused after "your best friend" and didn't continue until after the guard yelled) so "your brother, crutchie" was completely acapella and I sobbed
When the guard yelled from off stage to tell crutchie to quiet down, crutchie got this look of absolute terror in his eyes and it was heartbreaking
"Even Horace Greeley moved back to new York" "*waves his hand around like he's in class and really wants to get called on* OOH OOH YEAH! YEAH HE DID! AND THEN HE DIED!!"
"Dave (angry)" "Jackie (excited)"
Davey sounded pretty similar to Ben Fankhauser negl
Spot conlon was tall :( but he was scrawny asf so we'll accept it
At the rally, all the newsies were chanting "Jack Jack Jack Jack-" and Davey came and yelled "NEWSIES OF NEW YORK" and one guy just went "Jack?" and someone shoved him. Davey didn't acknowledge it.
Jack didn't storm away after the rally, someone paraded right in to the center of the floor and handed him the money where everyone was sure to see him and someone went "t-traitor! Youre a traitor!" And then the stage cleared until it was only Jack and Davey under two different spotlights, both looking at each other like they were about to cry. Jack looked at Davey like he wanted nothing more than to run to him and explain everything and Davey looked at Jack like he wanted to throw up. (Sobbing)
Jack and Katherine only kissed once, when she was threatening to punch Jack. All of the other kisses were replaced by hugs and to me that is so much more personal.
Jack seemed to be on the verge of tears for the entirety of Something to Believe In, like all he'd ever had was Santa Fe, but now there's something- some*one* who cares about him and he's gripping so hard onto that. He hugged her so tight I could see the tension in his muscles from the audience.
"... Oh no 😩 I know a printing press he'd never think we'd use 😮💨"
"Hey, ah- um, Jack? It's uh... It's good to have you back..." "... Shut up *teeny tiny loving smile*" your honor they're in love
The newsies all came into the audience during once and for all and the girlsie standing at the end of my row was singing harmony and she slayed so hard shout out to her
"Did you read this?? 😡😡 These kids put put a pretty good paper🤬🤬"
"I can't lower the price of papers-" "goodbye. *deadass walks out*" I CACKLED THIS WAS HILARIOUS
"*pouty, over his shoulder because his back is faced to Pulitzer, his arms are crossed, and his shoulders are up to his ears* it's a compromise we can all live with😤🫣"
Davey didn't lose any clothing :( but he also started out dressed more or less the same as Jack was so.
Katherine was blonde, which felt note worthy for some reason
Everyone cheered for medda the loudest during curtain call she was so fucking good
Davey kept stuttering throughout the show and at times it seemed like he was almost trying (and lowkey failing) to cover an accent of some kind but I know that his actor has an American accent because he and I are from the same town, which really feeds into my immigrant Davey hc
I can't get over how good Les was he's gonna grow up to be a star
Over all, this show was really fucking good
Also seriously, Medda. Girl if there's anyway you're reading this what on earth are you doing in the middle of fuck nowhere Pennsylvania?? I don't see many local actors who I believe can make it on Broadway, but you, you could thrive on Broadway.
Every one kept saying "San-ta Fe" and not "Sanna Fe" which felt note worthy
So what's the lore with Juniper n their relationship with Vitimir n Hettie?
WELL for both, their relationships go back to their school days! Although the difference being that Juniper and Hettie went to St. Epiderm together, while Vitimir went to a different school (Glandus at the time he met Juniper).
I’ve briefly touched on how Juniper and Vitimir met here, so that explains their first meeting. To reiterate, Vitimir was a shy kid that didn’t really have any friends growing up (aside from bugs/whatever little creatures they spent their time around) and was bullied frequently, so that single positive interaction with Juniper, though small, really stuck with him and he never forgot it. Juniper didn’t forget it either, but being the sociable type meeting and talking to lots of different people, that moment sorta blended in with the rest of their memories. So fast forward to them both working as Coven Heads at the same time, Vitimir immediately recognizes Juniper. Despite Juniper changing a lot since his child self, that one good memory left such a big impact on Vitimir as a kid that he still held that soft spot for them. So of course, when Juniper eventually approached him on their own time, Vitimir already had this layer of vulnerability. Even though they might not have recognized him, from Vitimir’s perspective, there was that sense of familiarity and comfort; Juniper might have changed, but that kind kid was still in him. Now that they have the chance, Vitimir wants to actually get to know this one person who had plagued so many of their thoughts as a kid. And the rest is history!!
As for Hettie! Again, she and Juniper attended St. Epiderm together. Hettie was just as terrifying as a kid as she is now. She was everything- a jock, a princess, a bully, a weird girl, whatever you can think of. Though she’s very open about who she is, everyone around her was always so intimidated by the fact that she was unpredictable (and the fact that she’s both the smartest AND strongest person you’d ever meet is terrifying enough on its own). Most everyone- except for Juniper. To Juniper, Hettie was always such a character. She’s always been so confident and unapologetic, able to command people’s attention without even saying a word. Her unpredictability made everything she did so interesting. Juniper so deeply admired this about Hettie. And the fact that she’s 100% his type only drew them closer to her. Hettie was Juniper’s first ever crush, and that love Juniper had for her never faded. Though as kids, they weren’t in the same social circles, they did cross paths a lot, whether it was through Sonia (Scooter Crane’s daughter and childhood best friend to Juniper, who was also in the Healing Track), or Juniper getting injured for whatever ridiculous reasons. At this age, Hettie didn’t reciprocate her feelings (yet), but she had a fondness for Juniper because he was so different from the other kids for the fact alone that they had a (very obvious) crush on her. And while their crush may have caused them to do embarrassing things, and foolishly being used as her own guinea pig from time to time to practice her magic on, Hettie had cared about Juniper. To her, he always made life more fun and interesting. Fast forward to them as Coven Heads- Hettie has grown a stronger affection for Juniper. He’s changed over the years, but he still makes life so much more fun and interesting. Perhaps now, Hettie admires Juniper for the same exact reasons they always have her. They’re still a bit pathetic around her, but Hettie finds it endearing. Not to mention, Juniper still makes for a good doll to experiment on, and she takes good care of her favorite dolls ;-)
[pericky; a look into ricky's head during their meeting.]
---
"I'm glad you came, I wasn't sure you would." The wine pours, the sound of it drowning out the missing word in that sentence: back.
Of course, is the response, and the part of Ricky that's spent twenty years tearing itself apart to understand why vibrates with relief. It doesn't matter anymore. Of course, of course, he thinks giddily along with the words. He never needed to wonder why Pericles wasn't coming back in the first place; he was always going to.
I'm happy you invited me, and of course he thinks again. A lifetime of pretending he wasn't always going to either falls away. However harsh and lonely the world has been, all's right with it again; and the shy voice of the boy inside him that he's tried so hard to kill says, so quietly, I missed you.
(This is gonna be a long one; get yourself comfortable.)
Since Stanley is used as a direct parallel to Venti in his story quest, every time we chat with Stanley, we can maybe get an insight to Venti’s feelings.
Stanley, constantly, misses the real Stanley. He’s always drinking, and he might be doing better since Venti put the real Stanley to rest, but the grief stays.
He wishes the real Stanley was still here.
Pretending to be someone else is exhausting and damaging to your ‘true self’—there’s no doubt in my mind about that.
Stanley’s wish likely reflects Venti’s wish, considering how deeply affected Venti is still by the loss of his friend at the end of his story quest (he can’t even speak it out loud; he just stays at the top of the statue lost in memories and grief.)
Now let’s take into consideration that Venti is a god and an Archon currently, and only a (likely) naive wisp when he met the Nameless Bard.
He lives much longer than a human.
His responsibility will always be their safety.
(Arguably) He is forced into slumber for… healing? (Or is this a sign of depression?)
He doesn’t believe in ruling over his people, so he is one of the weakest Archons (his reasoning).
He will never be on the same level as one of his people, no matter how “ingrained” in society he is. (In other words, if he revealed his true nature, there’s always going to be a sense of “This is Mondstadt’s god” with every mortal he reveals it to.)
Venti, or Barbatos, was the Archon to bring The Seven together to meet.
Zhongli doesn’t visit Mondstadt (that I know of).
Barbatos is the only known Archon to regularly travel.
Five of the Seven original Archons are dead.
The ‘new’ Archons know of each other, but it’s mostly from a ruling basis (they likely do not have those regular meetings anymore)
From this, we can conclude that Barbatos cannot have a personal relationship like he once did with another mortal, and when he tried to find something like that with The Seven, they, too, suffered a sort of “mortal fate,” the supposed immortals all died one by one.
And Zhongli and Venti might hold a deep understanding towards each other, have some sort of close relationship, but we definitely don’t see a personal one—at least in person—anymore. I don’t think the current Seven even meet up.
Now let’s consider the Traveler’s presence.
The Traveler is suspected to be hundreds, if not thousands, of years old.
The Traveler is not from this world.
The Traveler has abilities that even Venti is amazed by (ability to remove corruption by just the presence of one of them?? This should really be expanded on considering they’ve killed gods for this.)
Venti isn’t unfriendly, but he compliments the Traveler endlessly (really, every character does this to some extent, but it still has to be in character to some level); says we’re the “gentlest soul” in the most recent event.
Venti says his greatest wish is to travel (aka “see the world on my behalf” 👀) and now he adjusts the wish to include the Traveler.
The Traveler might be the only one to truly know about Venti’s doppelgänger situation.
Thus, Venti tells us personal secrets. He acts like an open book (Kusanali’s* (?) intervention proves that he would have told us more about the Archipelgo situation had we asked) even though we get a different feeling in the manga with him (he’s more secretive; see Celestia panel). He “brushes off” the truth in that sense, but I can’t remember if he’s ever directly lied to us.
Our happiness is important to him (again, these lines are hard to distinguish from the people from the game using Venti to communicate this, or this is meant to be part of Venti’s personality—I mean, look at what they did with Xiao’s b-day letters… or anyone’s.)
Where am I going with this?
Venti isn’t as close to anyone as he is with the Traveler in modern day Mondstadt because he knows he can’t be as close to anyone else.
The people of Mondstadt that he loves so much seem to be the ones he keeps a distance from.
He’s watched Razor grow up (a curious statement), he’s friendly to Razor, but he’s not close like Bennett is (tbf, no one is—except Lisa???—but it seems like they act more like friendly acquaintances than friends.)
Barbara sees him as a talented bard (kinda like a coworker/colleague in the music industry.)
Rosaria thinks Venti is mysterious but likely harmless, so she doesn’t bother with him, and the god she cares nothing about (which could speak to a non-idolized look at him if he revealed it to her, but I think their relationship is best explored with others, meaning I don’t see them able to connect as well on an individual level—also, Rosaria could not care about the god because she doesn’t believe in him, so her reaction is still uncertain if she actually met him)
Jean knows who he is, but she can’t seem to figure out whether to be formal or familiar with her Archon.
We don’t know what Lisa thinks of Venti, but Venti speaks respectfully of her, so even if Lisa teased him like she does every other character, it makes him no different but also no closer to her. He’s more likely the eager “student” that she suspects there’s more to the eye of (if not the god himself), but she won’t push him to reveal it to her and maintain a respectful but distant relationship with.
Interestingly, Kaeya might be able to match wits with Venti in the way they both withhold the truth without directly lying. Yet, I don’t think either of them are 100% sure on how they feel about each other, so while it might be thrilling to talk to each other, it isn’t friendly.
Diluc is probably the closest to Venti out of the Mondstadt people (not considering Alice atm) just by favor of working the tavern on nights Venti drinks. Which is a lot and often. He treats Venti the bard informally, and this allows each other to be comfortable in teasing.
As a bartender, Diluc should be seeing Venti at his worst.
When you’re drinking alone at the bar, it isn’t necessarily a good sign (nor always bad). When you’re drinking as often and as much as Venti, it really isn’t a good sign.
But I don’t think that quite fits Venti because of the reason he drinks.
Venti likely sees himself at his “best” when he’s drinking; he’s jolly, he’s social, and he’s ready to have a good time.
When he’s sober, he’s still social, jolly, etc, but he’s quieter. Calm. He listens a LOT. (Am I the only one that watches cutscenes with Venti and thinks, “Huh, I thought Venti would say something about that” or “by now,” and he just doesn’t?? Idk maybe an iffy observation)
He thinks too much.
Venti’s quick wit, his ability to change the subject to something familiar, comfortable, and his reputation as the best bard in Mondstadt are what he relies on, and he can do all that drunk while not having to deal with his memories and all that comes with that.
So where do the attachment issues come in?
I think Venti’s lonely. And I think the proof is in Venti’s lines to the Traveler.
He can’t be close to his Mondstadt people in a real way. They all will die long before him. They will always hold a mortal concept of what Venti is to them. They will always remind Venti of what he’s already lost and will lose again one day.
But the Traveler “isn’t meant for this world.”
The Traveler is someone new, someone that can cure corruption, and someone that also wants (needs) to travel the world.
Venti’s flowery language towards us just shows how he’s grown attached to the lone traveler that continues to visit his land. That also understands loss and constantly surprises him. That helps the people he loves so very much.
So, while a lot of Venti’s lines could be attributed to fan service and are reflected in other characters, too, I think you can explain different reasons as to why the characters speak the way they do towards the Traveler. And I think this is Venti’s reason.
Aka I took fan service seriously and used it to explain Venti’s emotional issues
on the road atm and feel like talking so like. if you wanna send me asks abt my ocs or hcs or anything feel free. I like talking abt my silly little guys
ok so heres some of the ideas i had for ggau...this is just the first post im probably gonna make like this bc i had to cut myself short here....even after simplifying the phrasing of my ideas for this post but...yep...😔
back then(a couple hundred or so years before the actual rt games wouldve taken place????) humans born in the pmd world were probably a slightly more common thing? but. still pretty uncommon? and their numbers were dwindling too...
as a vulpix, ninetales grew up in mt blaze, but decided to leave there with the human friend she had at the time....
said human friend was just manipulating him tho and was just trying to get one of her tails. vulpix ran away and ended up alone in the cold....he lasted longer than most non fire types wouldve in that cold climate but...
on the verge of death, they started to become a spirit. when articuno found and saved them. after articuno brought him to mt freeze, vulpix decided to stay there. she developed her spirit abilities with help from other spirits....
i think that gengar showed some semblance of being a decent human being when he and gardevoir first met as a young human and a ralts?(like. he unintentionally helped her one(1) time when they first met...he probably wouldnt admit to helping her intentionally tho) this was probably part of why she has so much faith in him fsr??
before getting cursed gengar and gardevoir had a genuinely close sibling type relationship? they would both kind of talk? about "world domination" and shit together. gengar was more of a bully than her but she also wasnt That Nice either. and she was very defensive of her weak human brother/friend...like she would kick ass for him
after getting cursed. i think gardevoir doesnt like being left behind...like especially after reuniting with gengar? she wont admit that she has her own problems bc of this situation tho...gengar also doesnt like to admit that he has issues either so....
anwyays since gengar feels...pretty guilty for what happened to gardevoir. he'll like try to not be a complete asshole liar jerk when shes in the room but if she hypothetically left the room. he would probably be an even bigger asshole for a min. would have to take advantage of this window.
ok this is getting. long. so im gonna save the rest for later...
I did not see this ask until RIGHT now (first time on desktop since crab day, second time since Nov 5 2020 [which was DOUBLY experience since I got my phone taken the same day]) so I'm going to assume this ask got eaten on mobile because tumblr, HOWEVER you poked a bear with this ask anon (as I'm sure you knew when asking) SO without further ado: my Scooby Doo live action opinions
So when you say 'live action Scooby-Doo movies' I'm assuming you're talking about the James Gunn films, starting with Scooby-Doo (2002) followed by Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, just due to like, generally popularity and also the fact that I have actually seen those films. However shoot another ask if you wanted me to include Curse of the Lake Monster in this (because I will if anyone cares and turn this into a live-action scooby dissertation, i'd just need to like. watch the movie first) But anyways where I'm going with this is that this post is about the Gunn movies aka the ones with SMG, Freddie Prinze Jr., Linda Cardellini, and ofc our #1 man, Matthew Lilliard.
Okay so my take on these movies is... complicated. I wouldn't say it's as complicated as my feelings towards SDMI, because I watched the live actions way less as a kid and generally care less about them, but still no matter how much shit I throw at these two movies there are parts that I generally like (even love) that stops me from totally condemning them wholesale. Like the fact that these movies are FUNNY! There's so many moments from this duology that are just beyond iconic "like, that's one of my favorite names!" the whole thing with Scooby in the dress at the airport, ET. CETERA (like I can go on!)
The Gunn movies are genuinely SO fun and I can 100% see and understand how they've stood so well in the public view as a representation of Scooby. HOWEVER, this is where you start to see my problems with them. For the general American, (because that is the audience I'm familiar with) ESPECIALLY millennials and younger, who happen to make up the majority of both people on this site AND people I talk about Scooby with in real life, these movies, and the elements they introduced as "quintessential scooby tropes" are the base of their understanding of the Scooby franchise, along with likely some miscellaneous WAY episodes and maybe SDMI.
Which is where I get pissed off. In the pushing of the narrative of "breaking away" from the Scooby norm, Gunn basically invents (aka totally makes up) an idea of what classic era Scooby was like, cementing an idea of classic Scooby into the public mind that is totally disingenuous and just straight up false. For example, in attempting to portray Daphne as having taken strides to be seen more seriously in solving mysteries and defending herself, it pushes the narrative that in the classic era she WASN'T taken seriously, and only existed as a damsel-in-distress prop of a character, which is just not true??? Like yes, Daphne is clumsy, that's a part of her character, and her friends (because, fun fact, the gang ARE friends) joke about it sometimes because that's what friends DO. Framing that in some kind of sexist "that's all she does" lens is just total bull, especially as gang members fall into secret passageways/get lost etc. in WAY ALL THE DAMN TIME because that's how the plot functions! Like are we calling Velma ditzy for losing her glasses every other episode? Of course not, and Fred falls into passageways all the time, not to MENTION Shaggy and Scooby and all they get up to. Also one last thing on the topic of Daphne, like this idea of her mystery solving skills not being respected by the gang is just so supremely bullshit it amazes me sometimes, especially when she was the LEADER (or leader adjacent) through pretty much all of her appearances in the 1980s [Not that James Gunn could look at '80s era Scooby without spitting on it, but I digress]
AND THIS IS JUST DAPHNE! Like the perceptions pushed towards Fred (and Velma, but mostly Fred) through these movies are just as bad! Like okay, with Fred---In these movies Fred is just an asshole. I hate Gunn Movies!Fred. I mean yeah he can be funny but it's almost always so mean! Almost nothing makes me madder than a mean Fred by the way. If he's putting other gang members down (even halfway, like with his whole "dorky chicks like you turn me on too" line, which... ew) then to me something has gone very, very, VERY, wrong in your basic understanding of Frederick Herman Jones as a character. Like he's the cheerleader! He puts himself in between his friends and danger! He loves nets, and traps, and Elvis impressions, and wrestling, and the trapeze, and cars, and most of all he LOVES sharing the things he loves with his friends! (Sometimes to a bit of an extreme. No one wants to hear about your net facts, Fred) And the live action movies just don't understand that at all. And I know there's maybe something to say I suppose in that some of those aspects of his characterization hadn't been "established yet" by the time "Scooby-Doo" came out in 2002. But it's there if you look. For Fred Jones, being the leader means being the caretaker, (he's the Mom friend what can I say) and any version where he's cruel and arrogant and just DOESN'T CARE about his friends in the way he's shown to in the Gunn movies is just so far from Fred to me it's not even funny. And what makes it even worse for me is that this (or at least something similar) is the idea of Fred that has really spread to the popular culture. Just the "leader", the jock that makes the rules, the one that [insert X adaptation here] finally gave a personality and made interesting (something that has been said more times than I can count for pretty much every gang member, save Shaggy and Scooby).
And I haven't even touched on Velma, and how they gave her a bit of a early 2000s smart superiority girl complex against Daphne, plus the whole makeover thing and etc. etc. The Gunn Movies are pretty much what would happen if you took someone who hadn't seen Scooby since they were 7 years old (and honestly had a pretty negative outlook against it then) and tried to "fix" it, only his memory was so bad he just made up problems (and threw in a good helping of early 2000s style sexism with it) convincing pretty much the entirety of the popular culture that said problems exist and that Gunn was absolutely brilliant for fixing them (and then bringing up said "problems" whenever anyone wants to talk about Scooby) and this entire rant has been without even fucking MENTIONING what is probably the reason you, anonymous tumblr user sent this ask in the first place, to I, Swishy "Scrappy Doo Redemption Arc" Broke-on-books (dot tumblr dot com), which is his HIGHLY SUCESSFUL and utterly sadistic character assassination of my number one man, Scrappy Doo.
And I am going to try my damnedest here not to get totally into my highly passionate opinions over what James Gunn did to Scrappy in the first of his Scooby movies and how thoroughly it has pissed me the fuck off because I have been writing this post for over an hour now and if we start to really get into my feelings on this topic it will certainly be a couple of hours more but like. That Fucking Bitch. I give James Gunn personally a solid eighty-five percent of the blame for making my life as a Scrappy Doo fan UTTERLY unbearable with this stupid fucking movie alone, and just his Scrappy crimes would honestly be enough for me to say that I hate this movie, not even considering the numerous Scooby crimes I've been talking about here for the past million paragraphs, but the part about this movie that makes me the MOST mad the most pissed off is that it's actually a good fucking movie. James Gunn wrote two hilarious and entertaining movies that have become beloved in the popular culture for their successes in that arena, while at the same time pissing all over the core themes and messages of the franchise of which it was based, that of friendship.
TLDR; The Live Action Scooby Doo movies (written by James Gunn) are highly entertaining and fun pieces of media to watch, and are widely loved by the general public and looked at with fondness and nostalgia because of that. However, as a hardcore Scooby Doo fan (writing that phrase sounds so ridiculous but oh well) the existence of these movies and their impact on the popular culture can be extremely frustrating (despite any personal nostalgia said fan may have) due to their spreading of a misinformed picture of what "typical Scooby Doo" looks like. This picture is especially frustrating due to the fabrication or exaggeration of problems present in classic Scooby (such as sexism in regards to the girls), as well as giving more ammunition to other problems in Scooby fandom (such as oversexualization, and sexualization in general, which no one wants to see in regards to their children's cartoons, like HONESTLY.) Discussions of sexism and sexualization in Scooby (both of which ARE present and are issues, although not at their worst in WAY) can often lead to an overlooking of the issues that are very present and clear in WAY and have continued since then with far too little resistance (I'm 100% talking about the racism here) HOWEVER that topic deserves at least a dozen posts of its own that I am no way informed or qualified enough to even begin to think about writing. The Gunn Movies are frustrating to many longtime Scooby fans because of these reasons, but for me, and fellow Scrappy Doo fans there is also the added aspect of the demonization of Scrappy Doo in the live action movies and the affects that has had on the popular culture as well, making it uniquely inhospitable to like or enjoy the character of Scrappy. End post.

Hello I have a question since I have no idea what's going on.
I finally watched Tales of the Jedi a thought it was great. Got me right in my feelings and more excited for the Bad Batch.
But there seems to be a lot of Filoni hate and I think I missed something. I mean what happened to in Filoni we trust?
Filoni happened, too many times.
TOTJ was pretty good on the whole, but what's been bothering people more and more is how comfortable he's gotten with treating Star Wars like his own personal sandbox. Characters he's a fan of get the spotlight even when they shouldn't, and he lets his biases and preferences shine through instead of sticking to the movies or even TCW s1-6. It was fine when he wasn't implicated in just about every piece of SW media that's being released, but now his vision is everywhere, unrestrained, and if you're not an absolute fan of said vision you quickly get fed up - which is what happened imo, at least in my corner of the fandom.
I don't hate the dude, but I really feel like his writing deserves all the pasta nicknames and 'Darth Felonius' jokes people can come up with.
having a lot of thoughts right now at 4am about chay being ruthless
there’s a specific animorphs quote i’m thinking of:
"People don't understand the word ruthless. They think it means 'mean.' It's not about being mean. It's about seeing the bright, clear line that leads from A to B. The line that goes from motive to means. Beginning to end. It's about seeing that bright, clear line and not caring about anything but the beautiful fact that you can see the solution. Not caring about anything else but the perfection of it." — Marco, The Reunion by K.A. Applegate
specifically the bit: It's about seeing the bright, clear line that leads from A to B.
now, i dont think chay from season 1 is ruthless. but i very much see him as having the makings of it. chay has a very simple and direct approach to things; he sees something he wants, so he pursues it (he asks his idol for lessons their first meeting, he doesn’t let kim skip out on tutor lessons, he confesses twice because he had a homework goal and then a personal goal, he wants the truth so he confronts kim that same day, etc). and we see this theme of ‘chay has a goal, chay pursues goal’ most often with kim because they specifically foil each other in this. kim has a grand speech about making sacrifices to achieve your goals, but he’s stagnant between the world he was borne into and cant fully leave because of his brothers, vs the soft bright world he wants to be in but cant because he comes bearing blood. this directly contrasts with chay, who pursues his goals fullheartedly and recklessly
now, chay's not ruthless. not...yet. but there’s also these little...hints of a ruthlessly practical mindset to him. the most standout point for me in this regard was episode 1 when porsche is worried about his uncle. he’s sent arthee away, but he’s still planning “how do i get uncle out of trouble, and how do i maximize it?”
but chay? chay’s straight up like “uncle’s problems aren’t ours, lets just runaway to go live your dream of owning a bar on the beach”
i love this scene between porsche and chay so much. not only is really heartwarming, but i think it rly solidifies who they are as characters right off the bat. porsche is a caretaker. he takes care of everyone around him, whether he has an obligation to or not. but chay is fully ready to just leave their uncle behind. uncle interferes with brother’s and mine’s future plans? then no uncle in future plans. chay doesn’t even seem to mourn nor care that his uncle, one of his two caretakers left, is just gone from his life after ep1. like...that’s a really cold assessment for a teenager to make about one of his two living family members (that he knows of)
for me, what holds chay back from tipping into any sort of ruthless so far is mostly his naivety. not innocence (chay is not innocent yes i am still fighting on this hill), but he has certain expectations of the world that don’t necessarily match what the world is. to me, this shows most clearly when he sees warning flags (”...how do you know i have a brother?”) but is fully willing to ignore them in favor of pursuing his original goal(s) instead of taking the warning flags into account. and since he doesn’t plan for them, when some of those flags grow into actual problems, they really trip him up in ways he’s not prepared to handle. but he doesn’t have that any more at the end of season 1
if we do get a second season, i would be v curious to see where chay’s character develops. im apparently the outlier lol, but i actually really love where kim and chay ended in s1. they were on a trajectory to crash in the middle and instead they missed and landed where the other started. kim, the kid running away from the things he’s always wanted, puts himself out there with zero expectation or surety that chay will reach back. chay lingers over the video, unsure if he wants to respond to it or block it, so he throws his phone away to deal with it another time. and it’d just be really interesting to see how these two characters would react following the same trajectory the other one originally did, but coming at it with a very different background/development. and for chay specifically, i would just rly love to see how his ep1 “lets just abandon uncle to the debtors and go live our dreams on a beach” hints might come back/come into play in a mafia world setting
playing minecraft is a bit dangerous for me because i’ll tell myself that i’ll play only for 20 minutes and then it’ll be approximately two hours later
