Aziraphale and Forgiveness, Pt. 2: The Source of Salvation

(This post ended up being way longer than I intended, oopsie! And no fun GIFs to break it up this time. Hope you like reading lots of words!)

So why would Aziraphale, an angel who has not fallen despite bending/breaking the rules many times, have so much emotional baggage around the topic of forgiveness?

Some disclaimers:

Disclaimer 1: I've seen enough of tumblr already to know that "does Aziraphale really have religious trauma?/how much does it motivate his actions?" is the subject of Discourse around these parts. I don't want to have that argument here. Aziraphale's experience with Heaven has strong parallels to my personal religious history, and those specific parallels are what I'm here to talk about.

Disclaimer 2: I am not a bible scholar or religious historian, if I mention specific church doctrines or bible verses it's only to illustrate the experience of growing up in my church. My actual biblical/theological accuracy may be sloppy.

Disclaimer 3: I haven't read Good Omens the book. I know there are differences, but I'm not addressing them. All my thoughts are about show!Aziraphale and show!Heaven only.

Okay. Here goes.

The next point I want to make is that Aziraphale has spent his life inside a system that has weaponized the concept of forgiveness. Because Heaven, in the Good Omens universe, operates a lot like a particular flavor of toxic Christianity that I happen to be very familiar with.

In the version of Christianity I was raised with:

Your only purpose is to serve God's will. Our own needs, wants, goals, etc, were all understood to be secondary to that purpose.

The specter of eternal punishment is always present. Like any self-respecting Evangelical church, we believed that if you weren't "saved" before you died, you would go to Hell and be punished forever. How do you make sure you're saved? Well...

The rules are not clear or consistent, so you're always left guessing. We were a Protestant denomination, so a foundational doctrine was "sola scriptura." (We weren't fancy enough for the Latin, though, we just called ourselves "bible-based.") The basic idea is that the bible is the word of God, it's infallible, and it's the only authority we need to follow. But the bible is a cobbling-together of texts written thousands of years ago, that have been translated multiple times. It's not self-evident to a modern reader what any given passage means. It contains internal contradictions all over the place. So...the bible is the only authority we need to follow, but it's confusing and needs interpretation. Enter pastors and other church leaders to help us interpret. Only...they each have their own pre-existing biases and preferred scholarly interpretations, so even within the same church, different pastors might have different ideas about things.

So, to summarize: Follow what the bible says! Don't understand what it's telling you? Ask your pastor! Different pastors give different answers? Ugh, you're thinking about this too hard. Go pray about it or something. Just figure it out.

New ideas and experiences are, at best, begrudgingly tolerated. Because doing God's will is your only purpose, remember? And the Bible (and your pastor) are the source of the only wisdom you need to fulfill the only purpose you have. So really, you don't need anything outside what the church has to offer you and it's all a distraction anyway. (...okay, if you really must, here's a watered-down, church-approved version of the thing, now shut up.)

This isn't just the church being a buzzkill. It keeps you dependent on them and ignorant of the outside world to whatever extent they monitor and censor outside influences. My church was not even that extreme about this, relatively speaking, but it was still enough to profoundly impact me and leave me confused and floundering in the larger world after I left.

No matter how hard you try to measure up, you're ultimately at God's mercy. So you spend your life trying to follow a bunch of confusing, opaque rules in the hopes that you can be "saved" and avoid eternal punishment. But here's kicker: none of it truly matters anyway, because we were also taught that everyone falls short in the end and that the only real salvation comes from God forgiving you for your sins. All you really have to do to be saved is accept his free gift of forgiveness...by...believing the right things in the right way and praying the right prayers about it. And then spending the rest of your life still trying to follow all the convoluted rules, because doing so is proof that you were sincere...in your acceptance of God's forgiveness...which you accepted by following even more instructions regarding what to believe and how to pray to ensure that you were accepting it correctly.

How do you know if you've done any of this right? You never can, truly, until you die and find out. Because God's not actually talking to anyone. So in the end, no matter what you do, you end up in the same place: at the mercy of God, who decides whether you're forgiven or not.

If you're thinking that sounds like an incredibly confusing and exhausting way to grow up, you are correct! It also has a lot of parallels in Good Omens.

If you are an angel working for Heaven in the world of Good Omens:

Your only purpose is to serve God's will. This one is obvious. If you're an angel, it's literally the only thing you were created for.

The specter of eternal punishment is always present. The eternal punishment that can happen to an angel is falling. We know it's a punishment, because we know Crowley's fall was painful and because we can see that Hell is a miserable environment for the demons. This isn't The Good Place, where demons gleefully sit around eating snacks in conference rooms and brainstorming new fun ways to torture humans. Hell in Good Omens sucks for everyone there. And we can assume falling is meant to be permanent, because if it wasn't Crowley and Aziraphale wouldn't have been so gobsmacked by the Metatron's offer to restore Crowley to angelic status. Because there's no precedent for that. Crowley himself says that being a demon has automatically rendered him unforgivable. As far as anyone in this universe knows, "fallen" is a permanent state.

So how does an angel avoid eternal punishment? How do angels make sure they don't fall? Well...

The rules are not clear or consistent, so you're always left guessing. Was falling a one-and-done mass exile of everyone who rebelled, right after the war? The way both Heaven and Hell talk about the fall and the "casting out" of the demons would seem to suggest so. But fear of falling is obviously ever-present among the angels, so they clearly don't know for sure one way or the other. And what would cause an angel who wasn't part of the original rebellion to fall? Aziraphale thought he would fall for lying about Job's children. The archangels threatened Aziraphale with falling for "consorting" with Crowley in S1. Gabriel expected to fall for saying no to Armageddon the Sequel in S2. But none of those falls actually happened. Clearly even the angels in the highest positions of authority don't know exactly what the rules are about falling. And who decides who falls? Gabriel says the demons were "cast out" after the war, but who did the casting out? Did God handle that directly? Was it the Metatron? Did the transformation just sort of...happen, leaving everyone unsure about the details? And what about present day? The Metatron said that Gabriel would have his memory wiped instead of falling, but does that mean the Metatron gets to decide if an angel falls, or was he covering for the fact that he doesn't know how it works either?

We, the viewers, don't know the answers to any of these questions. But it's fairly clear that the angels also don't know.

New ideas and experiences are, at best, begrudgingly tolerated. The angels know little to nothing about the world or humanity and are disdainful or outright suspicious of earthly experiences. In the case of the ones who have never been sent to Earth, this makes sense, although it begs the question of why there are so many angels who have never once been sent to Earth, the planet that is supposed to be central to the Great Plan.

It's obviously, at its core, about control and keeping the angels ignorant of anything that would broaden their perspective. But listen to how the angels themselves talk about it. When Gabriel sees Aziraphale eating sushi, he asks, "Why do you consume that? You're an angel." (Subtext: You don't need to eat, so what's the purpose of indulging in this experience?) When Aziraphale suggests he try the food himself, Gabriel starts talking about sullying the temple of his body or whatever. (Subtext: It's not technically forbidden but it would be a deviation from my function as an angel so I'm suspicious of it.) And look at Aziraphale himself. He lives on Earth for many hundreds of years before he can be persuaded to even try human food, and Crowley has to work at convincing him it's okay. He seems to know it's not forbidden but he's deeply distrustful of it anyway. (I have a theory that a holdover of this mindset is why he's so set in his ways, behind the times, and still more ignorant of humans that you'd expect in the present day, but this post is already too long.) The attitude cultivated among the angels is These things are not meant for us, we don't need them, and they are a distraction from our higher purpose, so it's better if we don't.

No matter how hard you try to measure up, you're ultimately at God's mercy. So, if you're an angel, you're meant to be doing God's will, and if you fail badly enough you can be punished forever by falling. But the rules are unclear, the way falling works is unclear, in most cases you're kept ignorant of everything but the bare minimum you need to know to do your job, God isn't talking to anyone, and the (seemingly) officially appointed Voice of God is also pretty remote and mysterious most of the time.

So the only time you'll ever know for certain that you've crossed the line is once you've already crossed it, when it's too late to do anything about it. At that point, the only thing that could save you from falling would be if God just...decided to be merciful, to grant you a pardon (i.e. to forgive you) and not do the casting out thing.

Believe it or not, I had to work really hard to keep this as short as it is. If you've read this far, I salute you. Now, what's the point?

Aziraphale and the other angels are part of a system where they understand very little, they have no real power, the stakes are eternal, and their only hope of escaping endless punishment if they fail is the possibility that God will decide to show mercy and forgive them.

Yes, in the real world this is all just bullshit spread by religious leaders to scare and confuse and manipulate people into compliance and in the world of Good Omens it's actually real. But the emotional impact of feeling that confused and powerless and at the mercy of a higher authority is going to be the same. Of course Aziraphale has some Big Feelings about the subject of forgiveness. Of course it's one of his favorite things. It's not just a nice thing you do for people. It's powerful enough to rescue someone from eternal punishment when nothing else can. Powerful enough to wield as a devastating weapon by withholding it. It's a tool of control in Heaven, but it's also the source of salvation.

I was going to segue from here into what I think the specifics of Aziraphale's mindset are, but it took me so many more words than I expected just to lay out the parallels between GO Heaven and (my experience of) real-world toxic Christianity so I'm gonna stop here. Next time I'm going to dig into what I think is happening in Aziraphale's head when he forgives Crowley, and also when he does things like shelter Jimbriel (a very forgiving action, even if the words "I forgive you" don't accompany it).

Speaking of nicknames, Wayne's diary entry will now mention that his middle name (and Mary's maiden name) is Hart! Of course, it's very much on brand for him to say that that's his middle name. 😄

MC's Pet Backstory

MC's pet will now have a prosthetic (I'm thinking one of their hind legs).

Okay, it's not an actual backstory, but this opens up new backstory opportunities (you'll know if you read IAC), about why Julie and Robert adopted them in the first place.

In the next update, I will be updating the prologue to mention the job of MC's Dad, along with finally giving the option to choose where MC's Dad is from (if your MC is Half-Filipino).

Revamped Twin Fight Scene

I haven't actually played through DDWCaPH! since I finished Chapter 2, and when I finally did last month, I noticed a ton of typos, confusing lines, and awkward scenes, which I'll be working to address.

The twin fight scene in Chapter 1 is definitely a big offender, so I'll try to rewrite it so it has a bit more build up.

New Secret About Julie & Maggie

The last conversation you have with Paddy in Chapter 5 will have new details about Julie's laptop. Technically I've already kinda spoiled this secret before in one of the older versions, but here's a related hint featuring a new choice in Chapter 3:

I've also changed a few details in the conversation about how Tita Josie met Kuya Popoy, but you're not supposed to know that secret until Chapter 6 in the new branch. 😉 Speaking of...

JM's Mansion Sleepover Branch

Since I'll be skipping the Investigation Branch for now, I figured adding this branch is a good middle ground. It also lets me move the unfinished party conversation with Tita Steph/Yaya Connie/Kuya Popoy to that branch instead, since the party scene is overloaded already. Plus, it's also the only chance you'll have to visit his mansion.

Anyway, it looks like the majority want to have the sleepover at JM's instead! (Although I have a hunch that some of you are just more interested in having the chance to talk to B again 😛) I had a bit of trouble adapting some of the Chapter 6 scenes I've planned, but I figured it out eventually.

Ancestry and Heritage Passives

You will now be able to select your MC's Ancestry Trait regardless of your chosen favorite genre! You can check out this post for details about all the new passives.

Character Class, Trait, and Stat Adjustments

Character Class Buffs

Class Bonuses will be increased from 5/10/20% to 10/20/30% to make them more impactful. Class Passives will now also give +25/50/100% EXP from successful stat checks of the same stat as the Class Bonus (since the coding for it is already there).

Vocabulary Trait Changes

Someone pointed out that it's weird that inputting a custom swear word always censors it, so now I'm making it so that only the 🐤[Young at Heart] and 🐣[Child at Heart] Traits will censor your input and most of the swear words.

In addition, the above traits will now grant bonus EXP when increasing your Naive Personality, while the other two vocabulary traits 🦅[Mini-Adult] / 🦆[Childhood Graduate] will grant bonus EXP when increasing your Precocious Personality to make them a bit more immersive.

Gender Traits

As mentioned in the last poll, I was considering including the gender-related options (specifically Trans/Non-binary/Genderfluid/Questioning) to the list of Traits.

The majority seemed in agreement, so I'll go ahead with the change (unless someone has a good argument against it). I think adding it to the list of traits better communicates to the player that it's not just a cosmetic choice that gets forgotten.

Other Trait Adjustments

The 🥇[Top 5] and 🥈[Top 10] Trait Requirements have been lowered significantly (and now takes MC's Knowledge Stat into consideration). To make the EXP Penalty make more sense, it now only applies to EXP gained from Knowledge Stat checks.

This also applies to the 😎[Self-Confident] EXP Penalty (it now only applies to EXP gained from Charm Stat checks).

There are a bunch of other Trait adjustments, but these are the biggest ones.

New Locket Stat and Intimidation Stat Rework

Now that you've discovered one of your locket's powers, I've decided to add a new main stat alongside your HP. This will function like mana or energy in other games, and if you've read IAC, you probably have an idea of what this will be used for in the future. 😉

Your maximum HP will now also be increased to 1,000, and each point of Vigor will now increase it by 10. This was done to make chip damage (like being whacked with a stuffed toy) less threatening.

The Intimidation Stat will now be based on your Vigor Stat, and is increased by 50% of both of your Cold and Composed Personality Stats. Certain Traits/Passives will still increase/decrease Intimidation, but this makes the stat less dependent on your personality stats.

For example: A Tall MC with 30 Vigor, 70% Cold, and 50% Composed will have an Intimidation Stat of 54.

A/N: This is a collaboration between @deb-1106​ and @walkerismychoice using the weekly prompts provided by @choicesflashfics As always if you want on or off the tag list, just let me/us know. Deb usually posts to keep it consistent, but we were both kind of scrambling this week, so I’m getting this in under the wire for us. Charlie gasped. "Oh my God! Congratulations! She tilted Ava’s ring from side to side, watching the facets twinkle from the glow of the pendant lights.I'm so happy for you!" But was she? Well of course she was, but why, on some level did she feel a twinge of Jealousy.

"Yeah, Congrats! You're smart to be locking this one down already." Bryce directed his words at Drake and then winked at Ava. "How long have you two known each other again?

Drake glowered at Bryce momentarily but then lightened up. "You know, in absence of all the Whiskey we've had, I might take your comment as an insult, but you're right. I gotta make this thing legal before she realizes she's too good for me, heh."

"Oh stop!" Ava swatted Drake playfully. "You know that would never happen because it's not true." Turning back to Bryce and Charlie she said, "To answer your question, we've known each other about 6 months."

"Wow, 6 months…that's kind of fast," Charlie mused out loud before she could think to censor her thoughts.

Ava laughed. "If you asked me 6 months ago if I'd be anywhere near an engagement right now, I would have told you to get the fuck out of here."

"That's for sure," Drake interjected, and everyone laughed.

“Anyway,” Ava continued, “When you know, you know. There’s no need to wait for some arbitrary, socially acceptable length of time, right?”

“Cheers to that!” Bryce raised his glass towards the center of the table.

The others accepted the invitation and clinked their glasses, even Charlie who wasn’t feeling particularly celebratory. Cheers to that?! Did his agreement with the sentiment mean he wasn’t sure about his future with Charlie yet? Was Charlie just being dramatic? Just yesterday she had no doubts about the pace of her relationship with Bryce, so why did this suddenly feel like a competition she was losing? She felt tears start to prick the corners of her eyes.

“I’m going to use the restroom real quick,” Charlie excused herself without waiting for anyone’s reply. She locked herself in a stall and waited a few minutes until she felt more composed. 

Just as Charlie exited the stall, Ava walked through the restroom door. “Hey, you were gone awhile. Is everything okay?”

Charlie, washing her hands, stared straight ahead and hoped Ava couldn’t tell she’d been crying.  “Yep, just finishing up.”

“Charlie, I know we haven’t known each other that long, but I could tell something was up back at the table. Do you want to talk about it?”

Charlie was mortified. “No, I’m so sorry. This was a big moment for you, and the last thing I wanted to do was make it about me. I’m really not that girl. I don’t know what came over me. Just give me a minute, and I’ll be back out.”

Ava took a towel from the dispenser and handed it to Charlie. “I’m not the type of friend who needs things to be all about me either, so spill it.”

Ava’s tone eased Charlie’s mood just enough to make her feel comfortable opening up. “I’m happy for you and Drake, I really am. It’s just that your engagement announcement suddenly made me doubt what Bryce and I have. We’ve been together two years and marriage hasn’t even come up.”

“Girl, I’ve seen the way Bryce looks at you. He’s not going anywhere. We aren’t all on the same timeline, and there’s nothing wrong with that.”

“I suppose that’s true.” The logical side of Charlie’s brain knew Ava’s was right, and she hoped the emotional side would soon follow. It was at least appeased enought to put this to rest for now.  She looked in the mirror and cringed. “I just need to fix my face, and then I’ll be out.”

Ava fished a makeup wipe from her purse. “Let me help.” She wiped the black streaks from Charlie’s face and then pulled out a small cosmetic bag. “Just a little eye liner and fresh mascara and you’ll be good to go.”

Once Ava finished, Charlie inspected her work. “Wow, can you do my make-up every day? I don’t even know how to properly apply eyeliner.”

Ava laughed. “Better yet, I’ll teach you. We’ll plan a spa night soon.” 

Charlie hugged Ava. “Thank you. And again, I’m sorry.”

“No worries.” Ava pulled away with a smile. “Now let’s get back out there before the guys think we’re attempting a dine and dash.”

Despite a moment of awkward conversation when the woman got back to the table, the rest of dinner went off without a hitch. Charlie’s face hurt from laughing so much.

“Wait,” Drake furrowed his eyebrows, “So you work at the same hospital, but you met in a strip club?”

“It’s a long story,” Bryce began, “but basically I worked as a stripper to pay my way through med school. Charlie saw me and thought I was so hot, she asked for a private lap dance. My moves were incredible and she just had to have me. She asked me to be her plus one at her cousin’s wedding in Jamaica, and the rest is history.”

“Oh God, Bryce” Charlie rolled her eyes. “That’s not exactly what happened. My friends secretly bought me the lap dance, and I begrudgingly went. I was desperate not to show up to my cousin’s wedding alone and drunk enough to come up with a ridiculous plan, so we made a business deal for him to be my fake boyfriend. However, we failed at the fake part, and he turned into my real boyfriend.”    

“Woah… I think I need to be drunk to understand this story.” Drake raised his glass in jest. “Waiter?!.. Brian?! I need a refill!”

Charlie kicked off her shoes and flopped on one end of the couch, while Bryce sat on the other. “I don’t know why I always torture myself with heels. Can you give me a foot rub?” She placed her feet in Bryce’s lap.

“Babe, I’m a surgeon, not a podiatrist.”

“Ha ha, very funny.” She flicked him lightly on the chin with her big toe.

“Ah! Fine, as long as you keep your feet out of my face.” Bryce took her right foot in his hands and started rubbing rhythmic circles with his thumbs on her sole.

“Mmmm,” Charlie hummed in relief. “You sure you don’t have a foot fetish?”

“Negative, but getting my hands on you anywhere is a good place to start.” Bryce had that gleam in his eyes that said he had a plan, and Charlie would be powerless to stop it - not that she would want to.

“Start what?” She played coy.

“Well…” He walked his fingers upward. “Your calves are probably a little tight too, so those clearly need to be massaged."

"Clearly." Charlie echoed.

"And then, since I'm already this far…" Bryce began to slide his hand under the skirt of her dress.

"Hold up." She slapped her hand on top of his. "Don't you think you're moving a little too fast? You haven't even done the other foot yet." She smugly placed his hand on her left foot. Of course she wanted him as much as he seemed to want her, but it was even more satisfying when she made him wait.

"Speaking of moving too fast," Bryce said as he kneaded the bottom of her foot, "I'm kind of surprised Drake and Ava got engaged after only knowing each other for six months."

"Oh really? Back at the restaurant it seemed you were all for it."

"Well, I don't know them well enough to really judge," Bryce backpedaled. "They do seem like one of those 'opposites attract' type couples that just works, so maybe it is like Ava said, 'When you know, you know.' I just couldn't imagine being ready to marry someone so soon."

Bryce had a point, and Charlie recognized her perception of the situation was colored by her past as much as Bryce’s was by his. The way her ex Andrew left her just as they were planning a future together made her a little more anxious to make things official this time. But would rushing to marry Andrew have really changed anything? He'd probably still have left her for another woman, and then they'd have a messy divorce to contend with. She had to remind herself that Bryce was nothing like Andrew. Even without a formal commitment, her relationship with him was progressing at a perfect pace. 

"You're right." Charlie inched closer to Bryce and laid her head on his shoulder. "I'm sorry for getting all in my head again. You know how I can spiral sometimes."

Yoongi is a rock star, and I mean that in a literal sense. He makes rock music, thinks like a rock star, and sings like a rock star. His live renditions of Amygdala are the perfect example of this. Pairing screamo rock in the chorus with the guitar solos in the outro, everything about Yoongi's vision for that song is centered around liberation, a value that's inherent to a rock star.

My personal taste is screamo rock and dirty trap or drill, I like songs with distinct percussion, lots of guitars, and/or distortion, voice cracks, autotune, etc. Artists like Nirvana, ONE OK ROCK, Kendrick Lamar, Twenty One Pilots, and Jimin give me bits and pieces of that sound, but no one in BTS knows how to scratch that itch for me better than Yoongi.

He’s just the right kind of insane to speak my language.

The duality that shimmers around Jimin like a mirage and is central to his magnetism, where you can’t be sure of who, what, exactly you’re looking at - man, woman, child, king, snake, panther, cat, metal, silk, fire, ice - all in one. That duality, lives in Yoongi’s music.

It’s elsewhere too, but it lives in his music. Even underneath all of that, he just makes some of the best music around.

The guitars are placed and layered perfectly. I love how forward the drums are in the mix. The autotune is one of my favourite things about it too. The entire song is perfect.

Am I the only person who hears the same static in the song intro that continues faintly in the foreground for the entirety of the song? As though you're entering a glitch. It's so sick. The main/central beat doesn't vary much, all the texture comes from Yoongi's adlibs. And he does an excellent job elevating it to something more.

Rooster Teeth Needs To Be Saved (There Needs To Be Ideas For It) Part 1

[Note: This Is For Mature Audience Readers Only, so No Kids Allowed To Read This...mostly those who are under the Ages of 16 or 19 or older. also if it is true that some Karens think that all cartoons are for children, they need to wake up and know that isn't 100% true because some cartoons and video games are for a older mature audience, and the ratings can be 18+ for a freaking reason, and yeah, it could be good idea to have the rating for Yandere Simulator be 18+, like it still has it's normal mature stuff that it always has, and also that censoring options in it, which is good. but yeah there is a good reason I want that game to be 18+, to keep some from playing it until they are the right age to do so. so a certain incident doesn't happen again, to which I'm still gonna view that both parties are at fault...also this will get a bit off topic, like a whole lot....which is why in this it has the whole if you want to skip some of it, keep a look out for the bold words. ]

cause well, it might be a good idea to reblog this and I will try to keep this not so long. of course after this, I will need to edit some of my posts cause I notice I had mistakenly put the wrong word when describing what happens with that modern radio, like it only happens once in a while, and yeah when I get my fingers close to it (when I have it switched on by the way) it has a perfect signal, but when I take it away it ends up with a poor signal and when I put my fingers and hand close to it, like as if I'm going to touch it but don't, the signal becomes more okay again....still freaky, but I'm okay with it.

and it does seem it will happen in vie-versa, still reminds me of Alastor from Hazbin Hotel, but at least it isn't 100% the same as his powers. I mean, I love sweets but I know at times I don't want to eat something sweet and may want something else.

and of course there is that whole freaky thing that happen after using the pendulum possibly a bit too much, which once again I think it may have unlocked something. and I am using my gem bracelets for multi-purposes, one of them being to protect me from harm energies, but of course because of the three close calls when I was sleeping, I have to have to keep my dream-catchers up at all times.

the third close call shouldn't of happen anyway, but it did, and it might be because one of the new dream-catchers had some REALLY bad energy in it, which is why I had to take it down and remove it from my room and put it in a zip-lock bag and throw some salt in the said bag and put as far away from my room as possible. it's still in the house but it just is just not in the same room as me.

and yeah as weird as it might be, I did pray with the salt in my hands and then put in that zip-lock bag that has that dream-catcher in it.

I have a new dream-catcher now, one that seems to be more safer, of course the other dream-catcher (not the one that is in the zip-lock bag.) is safely outside and hanging on my door, and I think the reason it let that bad energy through, was possibly because the dream-catcher in the zip-lock bag had open up the protective barrier that I prayed for to be placed around the room as well on the door as well as the windows and all the parts in the said room, it is the only logical reason why the third close call happen even when that bad dream-catcher was suppose to keep that bad energy out...

and yeah, it has to do with Toxic-Lust Energy, the first time wasn't so bad because I became self-aware to realize what was going on, even when I was still in a hallway in the dream, which was still possibly dream-walking, and it is possible who I saw in that first dream as well as the other two dreams, was a type of clone type doppelganger that was possibly made from the original's toxic-lust energy, while the original would never do any form of harm but the toxic-lust energy manifestation would have no problem with that.

and yeah in the second close call, I had to run for it and tried to look for someone I trust in the said dream, which happen to be my Mom.

even though I can't really tell her that I'm the type of Nonbinary-Gal who by the way goes by both She/Her & They/Them, and there is that whole me being Aroaceflux as well as being Fictoromantic.

but I also think I maybe a type of Gray, I'm pretty sure I had found out about that before, so it could be possible I might be a type of Gray-Aromantic but still a type of flux, like I'm still interested in reading and even watching movies and shows with romance in it, as well as playing video games that gives you the choice to romance the love interests, like in Mass Effect, and I want to try not to romance Kaiden or Ashley by accident, cause if my goal is to romance a non-human, like Garrus Vakarian, then I'm going to try to stick to that plan if I decide to choose him, of course ya can't romance him in the first game and will have to wait until it gets to Mass Effect 2.

and yeah, even before I figured out that certain lust energies could of been the reason I fell for the wrong type of online boyfriends which by the way I have no interest in trying to get one at the moment, cause I rather have a crush on a fictional husbando character than try to pursue any form of relationship with someone who might understand that I do NOT want to be touched at times, and if ya think about it, it could be possible that I wasn't fully myself when falling for my now ex-boyfriends, it might be a mix of my body having absorbed some energies it shouldn't, even if half the time the energies that did get absorbed ended up giving me a seizure, which I had figured out some energies had been doing that when I lived in two other towns before moving to the one we live at now, which seems to be more energy safe, cause I haven't had a seizure since moving to the town we currently live in, of course we had to move from one building to another in 2015....and that whole first depression wasn't fun and made me loose a lot of weight, because I didn't eat very much, well the second depression wasn't fun either and may have felt a bit more worse and may have started around in 2016.....and I rather not fall into that not so great feeling again, thank you very much....I'm fine with just feeling a little down at times now, like I wouldn't say I love it.

it's just it's more tolerable than those last two depressions, but I can still get extremely sad like how I felt yesterday, at least I think it was yesterday.....which of course has to do with a video I watched that has to do with Rooster Teeth...and I will get to that discussion after this....

anyway like I said, in that second close call dream, I had to run, and for some reason there was a old man outside and I can't remember what he looked like, but I believe he was one of the figures that was protecting me. the other being a woman with long snow white hair and pale skin, I didn't see her face though.

it might of been during that time, I had decided to have one of my dream-catchers hang outside my door, to protect me.

and then comes the third close call dream, which happen when that other dream-catcher was still up but now is in a zip-lock bag with salt in the bag with it....it might be possible the reason why that third close call happen, was because the dream-catcher (that is now in a zip-lock bag with salt) had some bad energy, and whoever used it before may have not purified it from any dangerous energies.

I don't want to fully talk about that third close call dream at this moment, but I know I had talked about what happen before, but like I said it was a close call, a third close call type...

also it could be possible there are others like me, who had to figure out that certain feelings that were felt before, wasn't really fully their own and it was because some are giving off too much toxic-lust energy, I'm not even sure if the whole wearing gem bracelets will work for everyone who wants to protect themselves from not just the toxic-lust energy but also other type of toxic and really bad energies, some of which are supernatural or from people who give off way too much of it and it ends up flying around the room until it gets to you and then absorbs into your body like the sunlight to a flower.

even though your not physically touched, the energy still finds a way to get to you and depending on the dangerous levels of it, you could have a seizure. not all seizures are the same, and some of them don't have to do with the accidental energy absorption.

also besides the whole suspecting I may be a type of Gray-Aromantic.

I also had started to suspect that I may have been Demiromantic, like even if my falling for the wrong type of guys may have also have to do with some energy I didn't know I was absorbing. but my feelings also could of been still real, and it could be possible during those times when I talked with them and got close to them even not really seeing their face (don't really remember about all the stuff we talked about, I only remember very little about it, and some stuff I do remember, is that one of my ex-boyfriends made me feel uncomfortable even if I tried to put up with it but they seem a bit too obsessed with a certain thing, and not in a type of normal obsessed....but I guess I never really told him that the way he talked about it, made me really uncomfortable, it could be possible I didn't even fully realize it had made me feel uncomfortable until I started to think back on it.)

it might been around last year I think when I was hugged from behind, I didn't much like it, but it's okay now, it was family but they know not to do that kind of surprise hug again, I'm okay with hugs when I give them and well also if someone does want a hug and well I can choose to give them one.....but what happen before, and I didn't know anyone was behind me, and yeah it was my Mom who did that, but still, it had startled me...

anyway to get back to the whole Rooster Teeth Discussion, a video I had watched that proves that the post I saw before has some form of truth, and not just some form of misunderstanding.

I felt so, not great after watching the video....it was like a overwhelming sadness, and yeah I had to go lay down and sleep it off.

of course when I woke up, it had apparently started to rain as well as sound a bit windy and thunderstorm a bit.....that is just a weird coincidence.

but anyway, there has to be some way to save Rooster Teeth, I mean yeah they should make sure to take days off, not just a few days, but actual vacation times that involves restoring energies, and if they have to, they could take turns, like those who can still work can do so while those who are suppose to take time off will need to take some months off, and yeah coming back early because they felt way better can be optional I guess. not sure if they have that type of thing going on.

but I want to say just because Warner Brothers helped at some point, don't mean they are the parents of the shows that were born from Rooster Teeth, even RWBY is Rooster Teeth's child, well more like Co-Parent then Adoptive Full Parent after what happen to RWBY's Other Parent that was Monty Oum....and I had founded out that Dragon Ball Series's Creator/Parent Akira Toriyama had died, I ended up watching another video that had talked about that, and in one of those videos there were some jerks that were bad mouthing about him, but also those who were doing that, were being told off by others who knew it was disrespectful to bad mouth him.....

if a creator of a something that brings joy to others around the world, even with the sadness that goes on, ends up dying and at times way too soon before it is their actual time.

of course fans who loved them and their work, will get peeved at those who wrongly disrespect them.

Warner Brothers wouldn't really be a parent to Rooster Teeth's Shows, they would be more like a Uncle/Aunt...

Steel Wool Studios had became a Adoptive Parent to FNAF, because Scott Cawthon TRUSTS them, and that trust is real, because they did their best when helping make the FNAF Security Breach and even the Ruin DLC, which I really hope that DLC comes to the Xbox One soon....cause I want to play that DLC as soon as possible.

also while playing one of my versions of FNAF-SB, I have a PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch versions....the Nintendo Switch version still has it's stickers, which at some point I will use.

anyway while playing a new save on the nintendo switch version, I had a new FNAF theory pop into my head, which I will talk about after this...but not before I do some editing in some posts that came before this one.

anyway, it could be possible that Warner Brothers, as great as they can be, should have some form of improvement, one of them being that they can't just do whatever the heck they want just because they had been around much longer than most companies that have only been around for some years but not as long as them.

it could still be possible that Warner Brothers and Rooster Teeth can still have a type of partnership, but there should be some form of respect and not have Rooster Teeth just give up, with how the world got, no thanks to the fragging Covid-19, and I'm seriously fragging tired of the bull frag slag that the Angel Boys are up to that has to do with them being influence by the Toxic-Masculine energy.

Toxic-Feminine energy is still a problem as well, but it hasn't been around as long as it's counterpart that has been around for freaking centuries even around the whole time when The Goddess was wrongly dethroned, and yeah, once again I believe in her now, as well as still believing in God as well, so I can still believe in both Divine Parents.

there needs to be a way to heal and detoxify that Toxic-Masculine energy....of course all the song of "All About Us" might not fully match what I'm describing, but for some reason those lyrics "if they hurt you, they hurt me too." and maybe the parts that has to do with "rising up." which by the way not making the same mistakes as some Eon-Boomers did, we should at least use form of healing and protective barrier to stop the Toxic-Masculine energy from getting through, we can take baby steps with the Toxic-Feminine though, cause it isn't as high in the hazard dangerous levels as the Toxic-Masculine one.

anyway back to the whole Rooster Teeth and Warner Brothers, Rooster Teeth might have some problems but that doesn't mean they should just give up, instead they can just take a long break but also make plans on how to improve things, making sure that they don't get too overwhelmed, which can be helped by them making sure to take a lot of time off.

I may not know a lot of whats going on, but I hope they don't think that fans have stop caring, that is far from the truth.

fans can still care, it's just they can still have stuff that goes on with them, and when they can still be fans of the shows that is by Rooster Teeth. and yeah, if that whole Covid-19 hadn't happen some stuff that is going on wouldn't be as bad and even if there is still some good stuff that goes on, it still doesn't change the fact that it could be possibly that the Toxic-Masculine energy had something to do with what happen, even if not everyone has to agree, but I'm still gonna view that the Toxic-Masculine energy did play a part in that Covid-19 mess...

also if another company becomes a type of Co-Parent, even to something they didn't originally create, they can't just do whatever the frag they want and think everyone else will be okay with it.

and yeah there was that whole worry for the Hazbin Hotel, but seems everything is fine, so maybe it will keep being okay and the now Co-Parents that being Vivienne Medrano/Vivziepop The Original Creator (with her Team who originally worked on the shows Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss) and The Other Party, can keep things fair.

well at least she gets her name on the show's title so that is extremely good.

I guess some fans of different shows that have been shown by different companies, got use to expecting some bad news stuff.

I mean seriously, Wander Over Yonder had deserved it's true final season but that was basically cancelled, it wasn't okay that despite trying to do that whole petition, the fans still lost.

and the reason why we lost that, might have to do with the possibility that someone messed with it and caused us to lose that fight.

even though I still like the Ducktales Reboot, the actions of some of the characters that were suppose to be the good guys, was disappointing.

Scourge should of been the bigger person, and did some form of kindness by helping Magica with her brother, but he didn't.

he chose to steal those coins from her and her brother's throne room, and Louie thinks that Scourge became better because of his rivals, which might be true, but that still doesn't excuse him for hurting Magica and making her worse than she was already.

plus there could be a reason why her brother and herself ended up they way they were, like not everything as it appears.

another thing that bothers me is that Scourge couldn't be a bit more empathic to Bradford Buzzard, I mean his Grandmother is basically the reason he developed some kind of Post Traumatic Disorder.

if anything, Bradford's Grandmother was the True Villain.

Magica may had been hinting that she knew that Bradford wasn't a villain, and he was the way he is because of his Grandmother, who by the way, should get a punch to her stupid face.

and the reason why the sword made him transform like that, wasn't because he was evil. it was likely because he was hurt, REALLY badly hurt, both emotionally and psychologically.

so Mrs Bentina Beakley was wrong, the sword had transformed him but it wasn't because of what she had mentioned.

and yeah as Crossover Fanon Timelines go, if Bradford met Pink-Pearl as well as Spinel, they might get along very well.

even Locus from Red Vs Blue was able to change and become a better person, and he could still had some very bad trauma from his past that made him become a monster, but it took him time to get better. he wasn't born a monster, no one truly is.

and I don't think Cain was either, he became the way he was, possibly because of Adam and Eve's poor parenting which could make them turn out to be Gray-Parents. and they couldn't see that Cain need the proper help, both being a parent's love as well as emotional support.

even if Abel may have still had a good heart, but that doesn't mean he isn't still responsible for taking part in the breaking point.

and yeah Abel may wanted to have some kind of revenge, but he really has no room to talk, seeing as what he does to the fluffy babies.

I mean it is one thing to have them as emotional support, like being animal companions/pets, an yeah some animals still play a part in the food chain, and some being used for clothes.

but yeah, if Abel's offerings was what it was back then...

then Cain wasn't the only one to hurt someone like the way he did.

so both of them are still at fault, but if Abel thinks he can just think of himself as more innocent than Cain, then he is so freaking wrong.

there can be ways to stop him, that doesn't have to be a certain LOVE, as in Level Of Violence. and yes I reference Undertale.

I might technically be Cain's Granddaughter, well Nonbinary Granddaughter and there being a lot of Greats in there...

and yeah, Seth is technically my Ancestor as well.

if some info is correct, Cain may be my 117th Great-Grandpa, on my Mom's Dad who is also my Grandpa, own side of the family.

which means that Adam is a 118th Grandpa, well he is that way because of Seth....but also whoever is Cain's Bio-Dad, they are technically gonna be 118th Grandpa, and they may NEVER live that down.

anyway with that aside, I'm going to break this into two parts, or three if I feel it needs it.

I really hope that Rooster Teeth can bounce back from whats going on. there has to be a good way to keep that not great stuff from happening, and save that legacy, I mean there has to be some kind of hope right...?

at least the new season of Camp Camp looks great, also something tells me that Neil doesn't know about the "meaning" and "symbolism" to which he was showing off, but if some had read about it and learned about the meaning, then some might understand where I'm going at if they had seen that new episode of the new season.

I ain't gonna be the one to tell Neil, I know it's not really possible for me to tell him.

but if they do make a episode where Max does bring it up, and he knows what it means, he can explain it to Neil, well either Max or one of the Camp Councilors, well maybe not David, because it might be possible he has no clue about it.

I'm not saying what it is, cause well I don't want to give away some spoilers right now. but some might get what I'm talking about if they seen the new episode.

and yeah did get a lot off topic in this, and yeah it did make me feel really REALLY sad after seeing the video that talked about whats going on.....I ended up going to bed because of it, but also when I woke up it was all windy, raining and some bit of thunderstorm, which by the way may could match what I was feeling...but I know it was just a very odd coincidence.

anyway when I'm able to, I will post a part 2 of this, to discuss a bit more about the whole Rooster Teeth situation, and hope that things do work out and there can be ways to save them and keep that legacy safe even if some of them should retire.

cause even when those who do retire, and may check up on how things are and help a little if they want to but still not be fully involved, only a little to maybe help at times if they wish to.

but those who stay around, will keep the dream and legacy alive, even when it's time for them to retire and give all the projects to the new people that became a part of the RT Family....yeah that might seem a bit sappy to some, but if you think about it, new people getting to work at Rooster Teeth even when at some point those who had been there the longest do retire, it still could be seen as hope and some way to make it grow even bigger, and also making sure even when it does grow bigger, those who do work at Rooster Teeth, still should make sure to take long vacations, so they can relax and rest.

Rachael deleted this video after she got backlash for it

Deleted the TikTok video where she was called out but forgot to delete the comments on her other videos

The Apology

January 23, 2023 After doing all these things to hide what she did/said in the past she posted this Apology on her Twitter (obviously it had to be shared there bc that's where it happened) but it was also good enough for her to share it in a 24h TikTok Story.

You probably ask yourself why are people still upset about it. She apologized and everything is okay now. No not really because she never shared it on her Instagram account where her most followers are and obviously people also called her out on there too and not just on Twitter and TikTok. And let's be honest after all those things she said more than just that apology should have been done. So if that doesn't speak volumes... And not to forget all those marginalized communities she offended and hurt by those words. Do you really think they will be like: "She was young and didn't know better.", "Now she apologized. Just let us brush it under the rug." Even if you're not someone from those communities just take some time to think about how you would feel if you were in their position. Doesn't feel great right? So don't expect them to just accept that apology and forget about what she said. It doesn't matter what age you are. There never was and never will be a time when it's okay to say any of those things. So many other people in that age know that this is wrong and never did. So please stop defending her. She was old enough to know saying these things is wrong but kept doing it anyway. Was that apology (if she even wrote that herself or got somebody else to do it for her) genuine or not? That's up to you to decide and if you accept that or not. Everyone thinks differently about this and has a different opinion.

But think about this. What does it tell you about a person who:

After being exposed was like: "Oh no. Wait let me quickly go private on Twitter to try to remove all of that so no one can hold that against me anymore." (Screenshots exist for a reason so that didn't make things better for you or made ppl forget that js).

Again never shared that apology on her Instagram, the place with her most followers

Waited until things cooled off and didn't post anything until like a month later and came back with a post to make promo for her brand (Seriously!?! You've got to be kidding me). 🤦‍♀️

You would think someone who said all those things would do more to prove to people that they changed especially after that big amount of disgusting things. But what is Rachael doing? She keeps ignoring the elephant in the room and went back to regularly posting as if nothing happened. And remember that part where she untagged herself from posts about her and Dylan? Well.... the more and more she felt safe and made people think she changed the more she made their relationship public on her Instagram. While (as always) keeps ignoring the fact that this is damaging her & her boyfriend's reputation/image even more thanks to all those things that came out about her. How? Read that here

Y'know I saw a post I mostly agreed with. It mentioned that despite well intentions, censorship of objectionable content can actually get fucked up, that not everything that appears fucked up is actually That Fucked Up, that ao3's an archive, and that despite the seemingly huge leaps in logic, it can actually lead to censoring queer content. But then it mentioned purity culture

And as much as I hate to admit it, it has some truth to it. People can get... intense when it comes to censoring content to the point that it gets ridiculous. That those that write sfw teen romance are suspicious, and I've even had the "pleasure" of seeing someone unironically say that teens crushing on fictional teen characters gives real adults the okay to be pedophiles(and I have no doubt that teens have been punished for writing teen erotica on the sole basis that the writing involves teens)

However, there's always this validation that those people give to incestuous and stuff content. So much so that they compare simply saying "incest and child-adult romances are wrong, why do grown adults like this shit??" to the evangelical christians saying that all sex before marriage is Dirty and Wrong, that teens simply having sexual feelings is Dirty and Wrong. That the interest in incest and child-adult romances are as valid and normal as crushing on some character or person(note: teen-adult romances are questionable when adults write them, though I have no doubt that teens get caught in the crossfire)

And while there are adults writing this to cope or educate, let's just be real. A fanfiction site is not the place 99% of people would even suggest using to raise awareness or reassure victims. I'd argue that most people are actually doing it because they find it hot and that trying to make even a decent chunk of it seem like some Noble Thing is an exaggeration at best and a bullface lie at worse(though that may just have been an issue with their wording)

And that's not even mentioning a major problem: that the post in question was for those that were around 13. Not that educating them isn't a good idea, but it leaves something out. I understand why op didn't include it, but young teens shouldn't be in the spaces that believe paragraph 3. Not because everyone in those spaces are horrible monsters, but because 1. people in those spaces usually don't want minors in them, 2. whether they like it or not, there is an increased risk of grooming and normalization of Certain Behaviors that teens that young shouldn't risk being exposed to, 3. there is other fucked up beliefs that they could learn. That everyone who's against incest ships is some fun hating idiot that wants nothing even slightly fucked up. That everyone who's against proshippers wants to harass others. I have seen those types of people unironically say that people who don't believe paragraph three are bigots or as bad as bigots. Making it out to be like their shipping opinions are equivalent to marginalized identities, that being oppressed for being asexual is the same as people not wanting to be around those who refuse to believe that fictional content can cause actual harm. And this was on the same site that is filled with mostly queer people. Comparing people to their oppressors for what is ultimately fandom drama? Is that the space that 13 year olds should get invited into?

I have this astrology app called Co-Star, but I seldom open it. It has these advice pieces (or horoscopes) for you when you open the app that includes do's/dont's for the day. Tbh I mostly forget it's there 😅

My BFF and I got it probably two years ago, or some nonsense, and I occasionally look at it. It's fun to check because it's dialed in to your exact time of birth- so it has all of your houses taken into consideration when it's formulating your personalized daily horoscopes (and more).

When I opened it up today, for the first time in probably months, I notice this "See more of your 2024" button at the very top and I clicked that...

There was a lot to unpack here, aside from addressing the blatant swear word this app was throwing in my face 🙃🤐

At first it mentioned snow and I was like... "Even my astrology app is telling me I'm thinking about Capt. Hitsugaya too much". And then it reached the "Amor Fati" part and I was like "Oh. What?" 😕

I went to Google and I guess "Amor Fati" is:

"a Latin phrase that may be translated as "love of fate" or "love of one's fate". It is used to describe an attitude in which one sees everything that happens in one's life, including suffering and loss, as good or, at the very least, necessary"

Okay. Learned something new 🤔. I suppose it's not wrong. The phrase "Everything happens for a reason." comes to mind.

Ever heard of the butterfly effect? We wouldn't be where we are now, without having gone through everything previous to now. And that's something I've been steadily trying to come to terms with in my life, more and more. It's strange to see that pop up in my astrology app and in a Latin phrase- in two words. It's unnerving.

But on the other spectrum there's also the Schrödinger's cat paradox, so it's kind of like... 🤔😖 conflicting.

It's still best to comes to terms with yourself and where you are at in life, in my opinion. You'll just be a happier you. Lingering on events in the past, keep you stuck in the past. Accepting and taking accountability means you can finally move forward. It's just, for me, knowing this and executing it are two different things 😅

I posted the other images because I thought they were amusing. For maybe any fanfic writers out there looking for inspiration or something. That was another reason I liked this app- because it felt like a good inspiration source.

Okay Blue Lock fandom, let's standardize this

A lot of Twitter users are coming, and if we don't want the harmonious fandom we have here to turn into a toxic one, let's make use of "anti tags"

What are anti tags?

Basically, anti tags are tags you use when you are against a certain character or ship. For example, if you hate the rinsagi ship for whatever reason, you tag it with #anti rinsagi and NOT #rinsagi. This way, people who actually like the rinsagi ship won't have to see the hate you're spewing about it.

The same goes with characters you don't like. If you don't like Nagi, tag your post with #anti nagi or, better yet, #anti nagi seishirou. Do not tag it with just #nagi seishirou.

By making use of anti tags properly, people can block out hateful content they don't want to see.

NOW PLEASE REBLOG THIS POST SO THAT MORE PEOPLE WILL SEE.

Let's make this fandom a safe space.

An Honest Guide to Tumblr for Twitter Refugees (Part 1)

I know there are already tons of guides out there, but my WiFi was down the whole day and I got nothing else to do. Spent the entire morning making gifs, but still no WiFi, and I’m like, fck this let’s make a Tumblr guide.

Now, assuming you’ve already signed up and was able to snatch a fancy url*, here’s what you should do next: Log into Tumblr on desktop. You probably made your account through the app, and that’s cool and all, but for this guide, I’ll be showing some features that are currently only available on desktop Tumblr, so go ahead and get your laptop or PC out. Following this guide will also be easier on desktop.

*url = basically your username/handle on this site. We call them url’s because it what makes your domain name on your blog. More on this later.

Go to tumblr.com/settings/account. Here, you’ll find one of Tumblr’s most important features: filters and community labels. Filters are similar to Twitter’s “mute words” feature, and they come in two types: Tag and Content filters

Unlike Twitter, where tags are part of the post itself, Tumblr has a dedicated section at the bottom of the post to add tags.

Tag filters block out posts that are specifically tagged with #tag, while Content filters block posts containing a certain word within the body of the post itself. Once you have these set, you will never see such posts when using the search feature on Tumblr. It will still show up on your dashboard though, but it will look this and comes with the option to view the post for whenever you’re curious:

As for Community Labels, this should be self-explanatory. Mature content is now allowed on Tumblr, but if you don’t want to see such content, you can always opt-out.

i do not want this tagged as "horror" or "gore" because i'd like for people who are not native to see this post. i apologize for preferring it to not be tagged as such, but this is an important post that i'd rather not be glimpsed over due to content warnings.

before reading: please do not tag this or reblog with unnecessary comments. this includes reiterating what i said and white guilt ("i'm so sorry i never knew"). i do not want apologies; i want action. i do not need to hear you say you will change; just do it. i do not want to see tags saying "it's so hard, but i try not to say it." it is a word. simply do not say it. i apologize to those who have a screen reader saying this to them, but i will be censoring the original names of the ice cannibals (however, i will be putting in the vowels missing for context). i am only mentioning these names censored so that there is no confusion as to who these are. do not tag my post as their names.

the ice cannibal is an evil spirit from commonly algonquin beliefs. they are highly associated with that of other nations as well, and go by different names. the one they are most commonly known as is the w*nd*g**g (i, e, o, a). in other nations, they are also known as ch*n**k (e, o, o), w*t*k*w*k (i, i, o, a), and k*w*hq*y*k (i, a, i, i). (i repeat myself once again, do not tag this post as these names. please tag it as "ice cannibal" if you must. i feel disgusted simply typing these words censored. i am only putting them here so there is absolutely no confusion as to what i am speaking of.) their stories vary from nation to nation, but their relativity within these main stories tend to overlap in many cases. in these stories, people become ice cannibals through committing sins (most notoriously cannibalism, hence the name "ice cannibal.")

the most common descriptions of them (in order of named creatures) are listed as:

(the next two are virtually the same, but refrain from commenting on their physical depiction, but rather how they become ice cannibals through sins, particularly cannibalism.)

The appearance of a ... is huge, monstrous, and made of or coated in ice. In some Cree stories, looking directly at a ... will leave a person paralyzed and helpless against it. ...'s heart is said to be made of ice, and the monster can only be permanently killed if its heart is completely melted.

another set of descriptions to take into account is from this site. however, it is possible to take this with a grain of salt; this website is ran by the canadian government, and this article was written by a white man. there could be credibility to this information, but i am unable to confirm nor deny this at the moment.

Sometimes, ... are described as exceptionally thin, with the skull and skeleton pushing through its ash-coloured, mummy-like skin. Other stories describe the... as a well-fleshed giant who gets proportionately larger the more it eats. According to other legends, the ... has pointed or animal-like ears with antlers or horns sprouting on its head. A ... eyes have been described as sunken or glowing like hot coals. Sharp and pointy teeth, extremely bad breath and body odour are also often traits of a ... .

it is important to take these descriptions into account when we go over how people appropriate the ice cannibals.

the essential "awakening" of ice cannibal myth within "modern" tales (read: by those who are not native) stems from stephen king's pet sematary (1983) and the girl who loved tom gordon (1999). it takes place as an antagonist. while it is not described (as i have read in my research, as i will not be reading it for my own comfort), this is what essentially broke the conversation for ice cannibals outside of native groups.

the bastardized depiction of the ice cannibal is seen here. you can see the difference between this and the original is that these ones do not even appear to be ice cannibals. the earliest depiction i can find of this are from the 2001 film by the same name as these monsters (uncensored algonquin name), directed by larry fessenden. while i cannot elaborate for this movie- as i refuse to see it- it is depicted in this trailer (archive) (tw for paranoia and flashing lights). the most recent depiction of this is in the 2021 film, antlers (directed by guillermo del toro). it is not depicted in the final trailer (archive) released in 2019, but by googling the title with the word you will find the image after a little diving. i will also be refusing to watch this movie and will not go further than google searching for my own comfort.

here is an example of the ice cannibals being used improperly for a "monster au", especially for that of a group of racist minecraft youtubers.

the usage of these spirits in such a way and the open usage of their proper name is inappropriate for at least two reasons:

their name gives them power. by speaking their name, especially in the cold or while in snow, you are more likely to summon them to you

the bastardized depiction puts an aesthetic to the ice cannibals, and makes them seem less foreboding. it makes them appear in a way that isn't horrifying.

a way that you could relate this to is how depictions view the "devil." they see him as true evil, and by saying his name you are letting him into your world. this is the only way that there is a similarity between the two.

let's say you like how the ice cannibals look in their bastardized form. i cannot stop you, but i can give you an alternative that is not racist: the leshy (especially the witcher 3: wild hunt depiction). while the leshy is only one being who shapeshifts, it is commonly depicted in a way similar to the were-deer that is the bastardized ice cannibal.

On participants censoring their words in the Gender Census

During this year’s Gender Census I noticed an uptick in the number of people censoring their identity words. (Disclaimer: it might be that last year it just didn't register in my brain for some reason, and perhaps this year it was on my mind thanks to the fae/faer cultural appropriation blog post and this unrelated anonymous ask.) By censoring, I mean that someone might try to soften the negative impact of a word such as fag by substituting characters (e.g. f*g) or referring to it by its first letter (e.g. the F word). I have a lot of feelings about this.

On a practical level, it makes it virtually impossible to count (or sometimes even recognise) your identity word.

On an intellectual level, I am here to study your language preferences, so I do need you to actually tell me your language preferences, unmodified.

On an emotional level, it makes me sad that someone has made you feel ashamed to openly use the language that you feel best describes who you are.

Regarding point number 1, aside from having to count words manually when there are variations in spelling, I have no way to know whether you’re intending to censor your word or whether the censoring character is an intentional and important part of the way the word is spelled (as in trans*).

Regarding point number 2, I have been doing this for several years now, I am very aware that people identify with words that others may find offensive, and if I weren’t comfortable with reading the sometimes-offensive words that people enter I would probably not be able to run this survey. Anyone who downloads the spreadsheet of responses will probably be in a similar position.

Regarding point number 3, I read a pretty good post on Tumblr about this recently, called “On the issue of the ‘q slur’…” It explains the issue really well. Basically, it’s your identity and you’re using the word to describe yourself, so there is no possible way it can be a slur in this context, even if it is a slur in other contexts. Provided someone is identifying with a particular term “in good faith”, i.e. not deliberately trolling by fake-identifying as an attack helicopter, they have every right to call themselves whatever they want.

“But what if that term is triggering for someone?” If I am triggered by a term that someone uses to describe themself innocently and without malice, trying to just be authentically themself, then that is my problem to deal with, somewhere far away from that person. Boundaries are good, and if I am triggered by it then it would be okay to say “please don’t call me a fag”, but to say “it’s not okay to call yourself a fag in any context because it might upset someone” is an entirely different and harmful thing to say. It says “who you are should not be named” and it instills deep shame. Queer people have been feeling this exact shame for too long. Do not let anyone tell you what you can and cannot call yourself.

“Here’s the diary you asked for.” Kevin gives you a small notebook with a pen. “Thank you.” Tomorrow is gonna be the day. The day you finally escape. When you enter your room, you sit on your bed and write down the info you have gathered all week.

Everyone goes to their room around 2 in the morning. Eric gets his midnight snack at 2:30, and Sunwoo goes to the toilet around 3. By the time they’re all asleep it’s 3:30. Instead of leaving at 3:30 you decide that it’s better to stay put till 4. You also checked the door last night. It doesn’t have any censors and an easy lock. This should be an easy mission.

“Knock knock.” Younghoon walks into your room. You quickly close your diary and put it on your nightstand.

“That’s not how you knock.”

He laughs and lies on your bed. “I’m so bored, what should we do?” “We?” You turn around to face him and he nods. You look outside. It’s been raining all week but the sun has been shining all morning. “Why don’t we sit in the garden?” You suggest. Ever since you came back from the grocery store you’ve only been inside. You needed some fresh air.

After a couple minutes you were outside with Younghoon, sitting on a picnic blanket, eating some fruit and enjoying the nice weather.

“Ah, the weather is great today.” Younghoon smiles, laying down on the blanket and you do the same. You smile at the warm feeling from the sun, finally relaxing.

Even though your eyes are closed, you can suddenly feel a shadow above you, blocking the sun. “What the-, move!” You hear Younghoon complain and you open your eyes to see Hyunjae, standing between you too. If you’re completely honest you’ve been avoiding him ever since what happened that one night. The more you hangout with him, the weirder you start to feel.

“What are you guys doing?” “What does it look like? We’re enjoying the sun.” Younghoon puts his sunglasses back on and lays down again. You’re about to close your eyes again but Hyunjae finds a way to lie between you two. “What the fuck is wrong with you?” Younghoon groans. “I wanna enjoy the sun too.” “Go do that somewhere else.” “No.” You scootch over a bit and decide to just ignore him.

After you’re done with cleaning the living room and folding the laundry, Jacob asks you to have another guitar session, to which you excitedly agree. You loved his voice and you were hoping he could tell you a bit more about the boys.

He starts off by singing Paris In The Rain by Lauv. you absolutely love his voice and you automatically start smiling the second you hear him sing. You once again take your time to look at him. He has a soft smile as he sings, his hair falling just right above his eyes that are following the chords of the guitar and his head slowly nodding with the melodies.

When he finishes the song, you applaud him. “Wow Jacob, you’re so good at singing. Do you have some self-written songs?” He nods “I do, do you want to hear one?” You nod excitedly. “This one is called happy-” Jacob gets interrupted by Hyunjae storming into your room. Are you actually kidding me?

“Jacob, Sangyeon needs you to help him.” Jacob nods, stands up and thanks you for your time before leaving to help Sangyeon. You were hoping Hyunjae would leave with Jacob but instead he sits next to you on the bed, very close, leaving no personal space.

You're about to scootch away from him. But he places his hand on your thigh to stop you. Usually if a guy did this you would slap his hand away, but you can’t bring yourself to do that right now. “What’s with the distance? You’ve been avoiding me all week. Did you think I wouldn't notice?” He asks in a low voice. Your brain starts to fog up. “I-” You try to find words to say but nothing comes out. His face gets closer, never breaking eye contact with you.

“What? Do I make you nervous?” He smirks. You feel a bubble of annoyance come up. As you're about to reply with ‘no’, Eric storms in. “Y/n! ah Hyunjae, there you are!” “What do you want?” Hyunjae asks, clearly annoyed at Eric interrupting the two of you.

“Y/n, come play games with me. Hyunjae, you can come too if you want.” Hyunjae huffs and rolls his eyes. “Y/n, please.” Eric whines, now pulling your arm, trying to get you off the bed. “Okay okay.” You give in, scared to be alone with Hyunjae in one room. You would be lying if you say that your heart doesn't flutter every time you see him.

After an hour and a half of playing mario kart with Eric and Hyunjae, and you despite your sneaky protests, sitting in between them, and you beating both of them more than seven times, it’s finally time for dinner. And guess who you're sitting next to. Hyunjae.

“So guys, our break is ending. Our next group mission starts next week, so make sure you prepare for it well. I’ll tell you guys the details later.” Sangyeon announces and the boys cheer. “Finally I was so bored.” Changmin drops on his chair. “You're always bored, maybe you're just boring.” Eric laughs, making fun of him, but quickly stopping as Changmin points a knife at him.

After dinner Sangyeon and Chanhee offer to help clean up and Kevin helps you with the dishes. By the time you're done it’s late, so you decide to go to bed first. Since your escape is tomorrow, you need as much rest as you can.

Today you woke up a little later than normally so you won't be tired tonight. You really need your energy to run as fast as possible. After you guys are done with eating breakfast you watch a drama with Juyeon, Haknyeon and Eric, do laundry and clean the house and by the time you're done it's time to prepare for dinner which Younghoon and Sunwoo helps you with.

After dinner you clean up with Eric and then go to your room to prepare your outfits. You grab a sweater from your closet and a pair of leggings that would be comfortable and warm, since it would be cold at night.

While you put them under your bed with your sneakers, someone knocks on your door. Finally someone who can knock, you think. “Come in.” Jacob comes in smiling at you. “Hi, am I disturbing you?” You shake your head sitting on your bed and he does the same.

“Well I just wanna tell you I'm very happy to have you here, you’ve been helping us a lot even though I know you don’t wanna be here and I really appreciate you. I would’ve given you a present, but I don't think you would appreciate stolen stuff.” He looks down at his knees, blushing a bit, cute.

You started to feel a pang of guilt in your heart, Jacob has been an angel to you ever since you first spoke to him but you couldn’t take it any longer, you wanted to leave. You needed to leave. Trying to enjoy the time you had left with him you guys spent hours talking about Canada, his childhood, why he doesn’t swear and about how much he loves basketball. You could watch him talk for hours. You nod to everything he says, trying to ignore the butterflies you feel when you two make eye contact.

You look up at the clock in your room. 04:00. You get up from your bed and make your way to your bedroom door. You slowly open your door and walk to the stairs, quietly going down the steps and taking breaks every few steps. You mentally sigh when u make it downstairs u slowly make your way to the front door in the dark careful not to make a noise.

When you walk past the kitchen you decide to take a knife with you, just in case. When you get to the door you slowly open the door, cringing at the little squeak sound it makes in the process.

Once the door is wide enough for you to fit in, you step outside, leaving the door open, since the sound of the door closing might wake them up. You take a few quick steps till you reach further from the house.

Once you’re reaching the forest you hear the door slam open. Shit! You turn around before you start running. Sangyeon’s standing at the door. Clearly very angry. “Y/N!” You hear him scream as you start running fasters. You hear the others making a fuss as you take a turn right into the forest.

“God, she’s fast.” Kevin breathes out, taking a break from running. “Yeah, just let her go, I'm too tired.” Chanhee squats down, Younghoon doing the same. “No! she’ll report us to the police and then it’s over for us, we need to find her.” Sangyeon says before making his way to the forest, the others following behind him.

You notice the forest is on top of a hill, which makes you run down faster. You run way faster than expected, almost twisting your ankle when taking a turn left. The footsteps of the boys started to fade away but you didn’t slow down, adrenaline still rushing through your body.

“Y/N!” Sangyeon screams looking around, he stops running and waits for the others to catch up, when they do, he shares his plan. “Okay, we're splitting up in the units we use for our missions, call me when you find her.” And they all split up in their units, Sangyeon’s unit going left.

“How could she do this?” Eric sighs. “I mean we kidnapped her, this was bound to happen.” Hyunjae says. He hates to admit but he’s worried sick and hopes you're not hurt. He shrugs it off thinking it's just a normal reaction and that he’s not actually catching feelings for you.

After a while your running slows down and you start to get tired. You stumble across a huge fallen down tree and you decide to hide behind it. Cliche but you're so tired, you can barely feel your legs. Once you sit down, you bend a bit making sure your head isn’t visible. You sigh. Why did you have to be the one to get kidnapped, why did they have to rob the store you work at. You stop the tears you feel from flowing so it won’t block your sight.

“How fast is she, God.” You hear Changmin’s voice from a little distance. Shit. You're freaking out but remain in your position. You pray that they won’t see you, cause they’ll definitely kill you when they do. The voices are starting to fade and you take the opportunity to start running again, regaining the adrenaline you had earlier.

But you should’ve waited. Juyeon spots you. “There!” You hear him yell and they start running after you. You panic, taking a run right, into the darker part of the forest. You jump over another fallen tree and make your way further down. Once you lose them you slow down a bit. You can barely see anything, so you start walking.

Suddenly you feel two hands grab you. You startle and stab the person with the knife you're holding. “Ow!” Jacob. You panic as you start running again, feeling slightly bad that he was the one you stabbed. You hope he’s okay as you start running faster.

After a while you stumble over something that makes you fall down, hurting your knee and elbows. “Fuck.” You whisper, quickly getting up. Soon after you run into a tree hurting your chest and cheek. You were getting so tired, you couldn’t even focus on where you were running to. You prayed this all was just a bad dream and you would wake up in your own room again, remaining your normal life.

“Jacob what happened!” Sangyeon gives him a worried look. The boys gather around Jacob, who’s holding his arm. “She stabbed me.” He understands why you did it but it still hurts him. “God, she has a knife.” Sunwoo panics. “Younghoon and Chanhee, bring Jacob to the house and take care of his wound. The rest of us will keep on searching.” The boys nod at his order and split up again.

An hour passes and the boys still haven’t found you. Hyunjae starts to worry even more. They were all wearing a jacket, but you didn't. It was so cold around this time of the day and it would be so easy to freeze up. “Shouldn’t we just give up. The sun will start rising soon, she’ll probably show up again.” He suggests, but Sangyeon ignores him. He sighs. As much as he wants you to be free, he doesn’t want to let you go.

You’re just roaming around at this point. You have no idea how much time has passed, or if the boys have given up already. You think it might be easier to just stab yourself with a knife and just die. But you didn’t want to give up. You wanted your old life back. You finally see the end of the forest a couple meters away from you and run towards it. But something grabs you and spins you around. You look up and your eyes widen. Hyunjae.

I saw you reblogged a few posts regarding subtitles and how they’re often not really the ~best~ lol. It reminded me how when Semantic Error was airing, some people who knew both English and Korean were a bit annoyed and/or confused at how the show was subbed because it cut out a lot of the more cheeky/rude and explicit language (in addition to there being some inaccurately or awkwardly translated dialogue). This seems to be an issue across countries too! I wonder why it happens. Things being inaccurately or awkwardly translated could just be from subbers not being proficient enough in one language to translate and keep the same meaning and make it flow in the translated language. However, I find the cutting out or censoring of bad language to be kind of odd and I’m curious what the thought process is there. That doesn’t seem like just translators who haven’t mastered the skill, it seems more intentional, but I can’t figure out why they might do it!

Why Are Subs/Captions Censored? Or different? Or inaccurate?  

Yeah, those of you who got the GaGa subs for Semantic Error reportedly got better swears, but less accuracy in other regards. I only saw Viki's subs and some screen caps. 

This was one of my favorites off GaGa: 

And I *think* it is straight up a wrong translation. 

Also there was this bit of Cutie Pie:

That was challenged by the bilingual community, then re-captioned so now this version doesn’t even exist any more. (Or something like that, I wasn’t paying very close attention.) 

So why does this happen? Why are they different? And why no bad language (I get to that in #4.) 

Sub Challenge # 1 - Cultural Depth & Nuance 

Okay so I had to do a whole post about Daisy and Intouch’s language nuance in ONE SCENE in SCOY in order to explain what was going on in just 3 sentences. The translator even copped up to how complicated it was. 

That’s just how it is sometimes with language. There is too much nuance. There actually is no way to do a direct translation. 

Sometimes subbers or sub teams do put in comments saying this kind of thing. The Stay subber for Kingdom LW on Viki is hilarious. And do you any of you remember... who was it? PinkMilk? Back in the day, who did 2 Moons grey for us? What a HOOT those subs were. I kinda LOVE getting little footnotes on language and personal commentary. But I’m warped. Where was I?  

For Semantic Error there was much discussion over the yaja time scene. (This is the beginning of ep 7, drinking together in the bar after hours right before the BIG kiss). 

Viki translated it as “let’s be frank.” But actually yaja time is more complicated than that since it involves linguistic register shifting and role reversals. It allows the younger person to be more frank (and impolite) without consequences... or supposedly without them. 

I hope you can see how this is also an issue for idioms, puns, word play, sarcasm, and humor. The translators may have English as a second language, or be translating from their second language (so the may know one idiom but not a good English one to translate into). Also the country they live in/are originally from influences them and how they translate. 

Sub Challenge #2 - Platform Philosophy 

The platform’s source country may make a difference in its “house rules” and subbling policy. Viki is a Japanese company, YouTube a US one, and GaGa comes out of Taiwan. But how they source subs also makes a difference. Is the subber a volunteer, a team, hired by the studio, or hired by the platform? 

So Viki (mostly) does subs by volunteer teams, this means certain things are mutually agreed upon, they try to make their subs less open to interpretation but it means they can flatline, getting kind of muted. In other words their subs in English can come off as bland and businesslike - subs by committee. Also they are usually in a rush to get them uploaded fast, and can be haphazard. They had access to a lot of Korean and Japanese subbers, but not so many from other languages. 

GaGa either buys ready subbed, handles them in house, or hires professionals, which means (mainly) one person is doing most of the subs for that one show. Like a translator hired to do a novel. Which means that person’s voice style will permeate their subs. Also any chronic mistakes or non-standard choices they make will carry through. You can notice this if the subber has a tick (something they never learned correctly in English). 

So, for example, I think there is basically one eng subber for GMMTV who cannot let go of pluralizing the word “works.” As in “I have to go do the works now.” I mean, it’s awful cute but also, hot tip, we never say that in English (outside of ladies doing “good works” in Victorian London). They occasionally do “childs” too. Dek dek. So cute. 

A lot of Thai and Vietnamese BL is subbed by someone hired by the studio, or on staff at the studio (in house). There are even some Thai actors who helped proof their show’s eng subs. Pavel is rumored to have helped with 2 Moons 2, and, of course there’s this gorgeous man:  

This is why there are indie subbers who have fans, who follow them around and tip them and watch everything they translate, because the LIKE the subs.

Sub Challenge #3 - Registers 

How to translating honorifics, shifting pronouns, and polite particles from a language that has them to one that doesn’t? 

This is a big one for many Asian languages into English. Since English no longer has registers (we used to, see thee/thou), but most Asian languages do have them (at least formal and informal registers if not more). Registers are indicated by the use of honorifics and polite particles, but also by use of slang and rude words, changing pronouns and titles/modes of address, and grammatical arrangements. 

Base level explanation of registers for English only speakers:

Think about someone using baby talk and how different that is from “normal” English. Now imagine it’s not just for babies, that you have one way of speaking for someone older than you, another for someone younger or equal; sometimes one mode if you are female, and another if you are male; one if if you are with your parents’ generation, and another if you are meeting royalty; one way of speaking in business or with professors and another when you are home or with friends. 

Viki seems to just translate all honorifics (from Japan to Korea to Thai to...) to the person’s first name in English. So if the boy calls his older lover phi or P’Dean, Viki just always writes Dean. If he calls him sempai, sensei, sunbae, hyung, hia, whatever... Viki has just unilaterally decided to make it the first name. Which is very odd for Japan in particular, where first names are almost never used. 

(I actually really LOVE the translator of Love By Chance on YT, they left many of the particles and honorifics in, so you can read them and start to learn.)

As a result, unless it’s a plot point they don’t both to explain that register shifting is occurring, and even then... you kinda gotta know what you’re listening for. 

So like sunbae versus hyung in Semantic Error is a big deal. (And if there is any sluttier execution in existence than JaeYoung’s yaja time hyung to SangWoo I need a link right TF NOW, for science.) But unless you’re hearing/notice SangWoo call JaeYoung sunbae the whole time and then drop to hyung only at moments of key significance/emotion, you don’t realize that hyung is important or why. 

In Love by Chance the subber chose to explain Ae’s use of Koon Chai* for Pete, thus saving us all from confusion, but in KinnPorsche they chose not to explain Khun Nu for Tankhun and just look what happen to my inbox! 

* Khun Chai’s a bit like Little Prince, or the UK’s old fashioned Young Master. Also Ae add’s Ai to the front which means equal/friend/peer but also is a bit rude and casual. So he amended a formal title with an informal honorific. 

Translators have to decide whether to go for accuracy or precision or a compromise between the two. And they’re given like one sentence or so to explain themselves if it’s a plot point. See challenge #1, that’s not enough space. 

Sub Challenge #4 - Profanity Censorship 

Possibly not “exactly” censorship but basically certain platforms, distributors, web hosts, searching platforms, and integration software programs come loaded with (or subject to) profanity (AKA modesty) crawlers. I’m only familiar with the USA ones but one of the things they hunt for is... you guessed it, swear words. 

Now these can crawl captions that are soft subbed (uploaded as a separate file) but not (really) those that are hard subbed (encoded as part of the image). They are looking for bad/blue language, and they find it. They were designed (originally/ostensibly) to catch porn and sex work (*clutches pearls* protect the children!) and not for moral reasons but for in-country (and intrastate) compliance reasons (the platform doesn’t want to be sued, so many platforms police themselves *waves at google*), but are now actually being used to find unlicensed IPs (the platform doesn’t want to be sued). 

Did I mention the suing part? 

Here on Tumblr you can imagine this as just like the tagging wars. The crawler has a list of keywords and they just flag up anything that triggers them. 

The product (video) is “punished” for its infraction in various different ways (depending on the platform); 

On YT, for example, a video found to contain swear words can be flagged with a notification for contestation (channel has to take action within a certain time frame), or the whole channel could get removed, or that one video could get blocked until fixed, etc... resulting in major loss of revenue. 

Some BLs will simply have a few episodes behind an 18+ mature rating (the kind you have to click on, Cutie Pie did this) to avoid issues with visual content. But that can detrimentally impact your add revenue, and sponsorship deals. (Watches certain brands clutch their pearls.) 

But for subs? 

It’s a hell of a lot easier just to not use the word fuck. It’s just one word, after all. 

Now, I would expect a platform like GaGa that specializes in high heat content just not to care much. But they also might want to be careful of pissing off host countries, and subs are easier to crawl than imagery, so they might just have a house policy in place (style sheet) not to bother with bad language, too much of a hassle for not enough reward. 

For example, I’m sure as shit not tagging this mf post with “profanity” “censorship” or even “YouTube” because i don’t want this post to be flagged or attract the wrong attention.  

Sub Challenge #5 - The Pay 

I don’t talk about this because I don’t know any subbers personally, either pros or fans. I do number a few literary translators among my friends but it’s materially different in the publishing industry. Some discussion here.
