What are some of your favorite manga of all time?

Oh this will be one of the easiest asks I've ever received! You've got me all hype, anon!

Fruits Basket

Wanna get me to talk for hours? Mention Fruits Basket. This was the first manga I ever read back when I was still in elementary school and I've never grown out of my love for the series. I will always have a spot for this manga but it's honestly perfection to me.

I love the characters, the messages, the themes and the emotional depth this manga has made me feel over the years? I honestly wish I could experience Fruits Basket all over again. This is without a doubt my favorite shoujo manga of all time. I love all the characters, I love all the ships. Some of my favorite characters off rip have to be Tohru, Shigure, Hatsuharu and Arisa and Saki. But make no mistake I adore Yuki and Kyo and so on and so forth.

This series does such a great job in such a complicated subject matter concerning neglect and abuse in a way that humanizes the abuser without using said humanization to justify their shitty actions. You leave those moments understanding how that person became how they are but can still completely acknowledge how terrible they are. How you don't have to forgive that person for what they did. And that, if you do forgive that person, that doesn't mean you're just letting bygones be bygones and being kumbaya with them. You can forgive and forget or you can forgive and never forget and that's okay. Your forgiving and moving forward for yourself, not them. And that's one of the things I really liked in the series.

Fullmetal Alchemist

Another series you can get me talking for hours about. You will catch me watching video essay after video essay analyzing this story. I was so into FMA during middle school, one of my moms even bought me the games and made it habit to occasionally buy me the volumes! This is without a doubt, the best shounen has to offer. Quality female characters? Amazing action scenes? Stunning romance? Banger after banger with so many panels I can still recall perfectly.

My favorite volume is definitely volume 15! Because of the manga, Brotherhood is my preference when it comes to the anime adaptations. It has all the homies in it. Another series I wish I could just start from the beginning again with no memory of the source material. These brothers and their friends have altered the chemistry of my brain.

NANA

Still believe that one day Yozawa will grace us with her beautiful art and storytelling all over again. NANA was my first ever jousei read and my dive into jousei as a whole. Until that point all I had consumed were shounen and shoujo so the maturity of the series was one I wasn't expecting. I consumed this series when I was about in early to late middle school and it was so much fun to read.

Now that I'm in my late 20s, holy hell is this hard to binge the way I used to because the themes, the struggles of the character and the realism of those struggles are hitting a little too close to home now. So I can only do NANA in small doses now haha. I even got both of my moms into NANA. Which isn't too impressive when one of my moms has watched the anime of every manga I've mentioned on this ask, but my other mom is NOT an anime fan and she loves NANA so much.

Children of the Sea

Oh my goodness, you definitely oh it to yourself to read this manga. It's not a long a read by any means with only 5 volumes and 43 chapters but it was such a pleasure to read. Maybe this bias comes from someone obsessed with the ocean (which my url definitely implies) and the life teeming underneath the surface but wow this was truly an experience. I watched the movie first and then read the manga, and I'm not sure if that'll shape anyone's viewing experience differently but I do wish I had read the manga first. But both are truly great to check out.

If you want a story about a girl meeting two boys raised by dugongs, this is the story for you. One of my favorite aspects of this read were the side stories labeled Testimony of the Sea. It adds so much to the story without even directly influencing the plot as you see all the strange phenomena that take place in the sea leading up to this mysterious event drawing in our protagonists and what will continue well after its conclusion.

Skip & Loafer

Currently ongoing and a series I was not expecting to like as much as I did. I'm one of the people who got into sukirofa after the anime dropped. 2 episodes in and seeing the absolute beauty and grace of how the staff handled the protagonist's transgender aunt, I had to give this a read and I do not regret in the slightest. This is such a great series and a perfect example how one utilizes 'don't judge a book by its cover'.

Characters you meet at first glance? It only takes a chapter or two before their layers are peeled back and you see how much went in to crafting them and making them more complex than meets the eye. A perfect example of this is the character Mika.

But my favorite chapter has to be ch 29 where you learn what made Nao decide to come out and transition. If you haven't read this series, I won't spoil it, you have to read it for yourself. Prepare for a monthly update schedule, because once that day of the month pops up, it's amazing to see how the sukirofa fandom comes together to scream on twitter and tumblr.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure

The series that gave birth to the greatest hater in anime history. Araki truly drinks and leaves no molecules every time a part comes out. Another ongoing series I didn't expect to like as much as I did. But it's become a series close to my heart since diving into it after I got over my initial hesitance with the art style. Honestly JJBA's art style really grows on you, especially as you see Araki's art and writing develop so spectacularly.

You get equal parts continuous story and standalone adventure. You do need other pieces of the pie, but each part still feels so rich and in-depth and bright and colorful. You don't feel like the new JoJo and characters introduced are extensions of previous existing ones or usurpers that have stolen the panels away from other characters. It's like watching a torch be passed down from JoJo to JoJo, generation to generation (which it technically is since this story follows the descendants of the JoJo that started it all, Jonathan Joestar).

Araki's biggest source of writing inspiration came from how he felt watching Prince concerts. How the story of the concert would suddenly flip and give you a whole new experience. I feel he truly has that down with JJBA.

Concubine Walkthrough

Can't believe I even forgot to add Concubine Walkthrough, so take this quick addendum. This is one of the best manhwa I've ever read in my life and not enough people talk about it. I'm working on a post right now all about why I recommend it.

If you're a fan of sci-fi, romance and want to read an otome isekai romp that subverts your expectations? Please read this manhwa. It's The Matrix mixed with historical Korean fiction (and of course, otome isekai at its finest).

I loved loved LOVED the philosophy behind the story, the themes. The discussion of what reality is and choosing what reality means/is to you. Just because your entire life is a simulation, does that make your entire life up until that point irrelevant? Simulated it may be, your joy, your pain, your love, all of that still felt real, right? There were so many things I never considered about that very topic until I read this series and I feel like more people should give it a go. It's not that long a read (only 128 chapters for the main story with some extra bonus content on the side), please please PLEASE read Concubine Walkthrough if you haven't already.

"Hello Gotham City! I hope you all enjoyed my newest song '10 Things I Hate About You' dedicated to my ex who cheated and broke my heart." You fake pouted as the spotlight moved to your ex again as everyone booed at him.

"But enough of that, I'd like to thank my dear husband and sons for helping me write this song!" You held your hand out to Bruce as he looked surprised and reluctantly took it, you helped pull him up to the stage with a bit of struggle, while your boys followed.

"I would have never made it this far without each one of you guys. My love, you've encouraged me to live my dream from the start. Dickie, you made me realize that it's okay to want to be loved. Jason, oh Jason, you showed me how strong a person can truly be. You've been through so much and I'm so proud of you for handling it, my boy. Tim, You taught me to never give up, no matter how hard the situation is, because their is always a way. And my baby Damian, you are so so strong and smart at such a young age, just like your father. I am so honored that I am the first one you ever considered 'Mom'. Thank you, all of you, for showing me that a family can truly be happy." Thousands of "Awww"s and "Cute!!"s emerged from the crowd, while your sons gagged and ran down the stage, leaving just you and Bruce alone, under the stage lights.

"I love you, Bruce." You whispered so only the two of you could hear as you buried your face in his chest.

"I love you too, darling." He kissed the top of your head and carried you backstage.

Reading that entry where you mention the "surprise vlive", I'm glad that I'm not the only one who noticed how SUS and tense everything was. Especially how Ta/e kept trying to bring up the pepero and I absolutely LOVED the calm and collected way which JM would look back to where he was pointing and then back at him like "Okay, and?" and by the final time the pepero gets mentioned Jimin goes "Have you ever been hit by one?" lol That's something I would say to a bestie who keeps bringing up something/topic that adds nothing to the conv like "Gurl you got a trauma or what?". And also! You mean to tell me... that BTS, World Wide SUPER STARS, who have previously and openly expressed resentment towards their years in Rookie King for all the shit they made them do and say (lets not forget all the times they were forced to hug/kiss one another or had to ALLOW the hosts to touch or kiss them on the cheek when they clearly didn't like it. )

The same BTS who once mentioned "not liking the engagement of fanservice, because of how genuine they are.", are suddenly okay with playing a game that relies heavily on FS by having two parties eat from the opposite side of the pepero until their lips nearly touch. A game where in other Idol groups we've seen members being forced to engage in said game even to the point of having other members shove their heads together until they "accidentally" kiss all "for the fans"/"because the fans will love it."

Now BTS are okay with that? On Vlive? Infront of thousands of viewers? In a foreign country?? LMAO I feel bad for the fans who still think the company has no influence over what they do, including the vlives.

Sorry for answering this too late. I didn't want to indulge my thoughts again revolving around the group or anything that's not jikook .

But the recent robotic ape and nft discussions made me loop back into a train of thoughts . BTS who dodged the paper-passing-over-each-mouths game ( they were fine with giving cheek kisses ) in their early 20s are surprisingly now eager to play those Fanservice games in near 30s.

Why? Is it because they know they get easy money + increasing audience by these 5 minutes content filming and not having to break sweat , move a muscle in back to back music shows, performances? Could this what BTS in near future be - just do modelling , posing for photoshoots , buy melodies from some white person +slap some words call them lyrics+ do some baby steps to it from tiktok no need to spend all day rehearsing in dancepractice room , while new content gets released for the fandom to indulge everyday , fanfics of favourite ships in Wattpad, games for those who like BTS sims.

Why ? Is it because lenzo , scooter and those other fat men in their round-table conference sat and discussed how the western industry wasted Larries and how the 2.0 version of much bigger breed is with them in their hands , could be manipulated more and pushed to a deeper beleif such that when they release NFTs of the sunbunit , no one even hesitates to throw money in.

What if the song was indeed planned for next year and the 'postponed' excuse is just like what they did with the mixtape for over 2 years - just hyping and preparing the fans while contents are being fed continuosly. The group sees fans as consumers too so there's no surprise they'd agree for nft business . Hybe needs a group who's lost all capabilities of thinking and will buy their nft before starting to invest on it. Now they can stage anything for one year to make an agenda boom and sell those nft song contents.

This is some illuminati level of shit we are dealing with unknowingly. We won't even know we are being manipulated . Unless someone leaves the company and be the Messiah we need

When the two you got together, Nishinoya physically could not stop bragging about how he managed to get a cheerleader to date him. Nishinoya was just so proud about it, about how he managed to get someone like you to fall for him, let alone date him. The two of you also became the goal couple of Karasuno, with the two of you actively doing your best to support each other's interests. Nishinoya always made an effort to go to your competitions when he could and even brought the volleyball boys along. You made sure to do the same for him and his volleyball team. 

Although, you never did the one thing that Nishinoya kept asking you to do.

"Aw, come on, babe!" Nishinoya whined into your ear.

The two of you were spending your lunch break outside with his teammate Tanaka and, the little first year that follows the two of them, Hinata. Well, in actuality, only you and the other two volleyball boys were eating lunch. Nishinoya, on the other hand, was busy draping himself all over you instead.

"I said no, Noya," You said in between bites of eating your smoked salmon onigiri. "But it would be really hot if you did!"

"Yuu!" You screeched as you shoved the rest of your onigiri into his mouth to stop him from saying something else that was embarrassing. You could see poor Hinata looking so flustered by his upperclassman's words.

"Wha?" Yuu said as he chewed. "It'th truu."

You let out a long feeling frustrated because you and Nishinoya have had this same conversation before. You were also frustrated with yourself for still finding him cute even though he talked with a full mouth. 

"I've already told you no, Yuu."

"But whyyy?"

"It's just...it's a little too embarrassing to do it." You said, shyly plucking pieces of rice from your other onigiri. "I'm sorry..."

"No, it's okay, babe," Nishinoya softly pecked your cheek. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't keep bothering you about it since I already know how you feel about it."

"Besides," Tanaka said, trying to remind the two of you that other people were present. "Nishinoya would go crazy jealous because, no offense, but there is no way that L/N won't be hit on."

"Ah, bro!" Nishinoya exclaimed, eyes wide from the sudden realization. "You're so right! I never thought of that!"

"But you'll still come right, L/N-san?" Hinata gave you the cutest puppy dog eyes you had ever seen as he asked you. You smiled fondly at the first year. Hinata could be so cute sometimes. "Of course! I need to support my favorite team, after all."

"But also," You continued as you lovingly pinching Yuu's cheeks. "There's no way I'd miss seeing you guys take down those Aoba Johsai jerks."

That got a cheer and a laugh out the three volleyball boys. You loved your boyfriend and his friends, and you knew how hard the whole team had been practicing for this upcoming tournament.

You believed wholeheartedly in your boyfriend's libero skills and his whole team.

You were sure that they had a shot at winning.

You could feel your heart break as the deafening sound of the volleyball hitting the floor seemed to echo throughout the gym. You couldn't stop your eyes from tearing up as you watched Aoba Johsai celebrate their win as your boyfriend and his friends were still reeling from the shock. The heaviness in your stomach continued to grow as Karasuno lined up and thanked their side for coming.

"You did amazing, you guys," You said. "It was a good game!"

You knew that your words meant nothing. That whatever you said wouldn't get rid of the crushing sensation of their loss. You especially knew that Yuu would be taking the last missed ball the hardest. You knew Noya had this need to prove that everyone can depend on him.

The team had already boarded their van and left before you had a chance to check up on your boyfriend. You even managed to arrive at the Nishinoya household before Yuu. Noya's grandfather was the one that answered the door when you knocked. He absolutely loved you, so when grandpa saw that it was you, he greeted you with a very familiar grin. 

He must have noticed something in your eyes because his grin fell to a sad smile. 

"Ah," Grandpa hummed, weirdly sounding more his age than you ever heard him sound. "Have you eaten, sweetheart?"

"No, sir."

"Well, come on in," Grandpa opened the door wider and motioned for you to do as he says. "Let me make you something, and then you can wait for Yuu to come back in his room."

It was an hour later when Nishinoya finally made it home. After letting his family know that he was home, he found you sitting on his bed waiting for him. You looked up from your phone when you heard his door open. The two of you didn't say anything at first, just holding each others' stare before you held out your arms. 

Immediately Nishinoya's lip started to quiver, and his eyes began to water. He let his bag fall to the floor and rushed into your arms, sending the two of you tumbling back onto his bed. Noya hid his face in the crook of your neck as you ran your hands through his hair. His sniffles were the only thing that interrupted the comforting silence.

"I didn't get the ball on time," Nishinoya mumbled against your neck, his voice heavy with emotion. "I should have been able to catch it."

"You did amazing out there, babe." 

"It's my fault we lost."

"Hey," You objected, lightly pulling on his hair. "None of that. It was no one's fault."

"It's my job!" Nishinoya yelled, angrily pushing himself to sit up. "I should have been able to get it!" 

Instead of meeting his anger with your own like you knew he wanted, you just gave him a sad look. You pushed yourself up on your elbows and reached out your hand to cress your boyfriend's check.

"Yuu, it wasn’t your fault."

Nishinoya tried to hold on to his anger, but no matter how hard he tried, a tear managed to escape. Soon you had a sobbing Nishinoya back in your arms.

"It's okay," You soothed. "You're okay. Let it out."

It took a while, but Nishinoya eventually tired himself out, his sobs having had turned into little hiccups.

"You'll have another chance in the spring tournament," You said.

"Yeah..."

"And I know for a fact that you're going to put everything you have into trying to get better."

"...Yeah..."

"Especially because you know the boys are going to need their guardian.”

Nishinoya hid his face back in the crook of your neck with a loud groan. You grinned viciously because you knew you successfully made your boyfriend blush.

"You should get some sleep, babe. You had a long day." 

You start to unwrap yourself to leave, but you were stopped by Nishinoya tightening his hold around you. 

"Stay," Nishnoya pleaded, giving you his best puppy dog eyes. "please."  

Honestly, you don't bother fighting his unfairly powerful cuteness. The next morning you get a harsh scolding by your mom for not telling her that you were staying the night at Noya's (and don't get her started because you spent the night at with your boyfriend.").

After hours of practice, the Karasuno team once again found themselves facing Aoba Johsai. Nishinoya tried his best to ignore his nerves as he joined in on the team stretches. 

Nishinoya had gotten a text from Y/N, saying that they would be a little late. He tried not to worry about it, but they were minutes away from playing against Aobo Johsai, and Y/N still wasn't here. 

Just as Nishinoya finished his turn in the receiving drills, he hears someone call out his name.

"Noya! Over here!"

And there you were, waving at him with a giant grin and in your cheerleading outfit. You weren't the only one. Apparently, you had brought the girls from your team along, but you were the only one Nishinoya was looking at. 

He watched a little confused as he watched you turn around and say something to your team. 

"5, 6, 7, 8!"

"Come on, crows, let's go! W-I-N! Come on, crows, let's go! W-I-N!"

"Good luck, Noya!" You yelled over the loud cheers your team used to end the chant. "I love you!"

Nishinoya tried really hard, but there was nothing he could do about the blood rushing up to his face. The teasing he was getting from his teammates (but mainly from Tsukkishima) not helping matters.

"I love you, too!" Nishinoya yelled back, the grin on his face practically splitting it in two.

Seeing you there in your cheerleading outfit proudly hyping him, but his team made Nishinoya lose his nervous jitters. 

There was no way that Karasuno was going to lose now because Nishinoya was going to make sure that Y/N wasn't going to him lose again. 

In the end, Karasuno did win but sadly, Tanaka had been right. Some poor first year from another team was dared to go and flirt with you. You had to hold Nishinoya back in hopes that he wouldn't bite the poor boy.

(1/?) Travel anon-hi! Oo, good luck! You'll do great and get to bask in potato-ness again! You've convinced me! I'm gonna try to go on a road trip with some friends soon then! Hopefully sometime this summer c; Ah, besides texting people at night while alone, I do walk with my car keys between my fingers (my car keys come out like a switchblade lol?) so I completely understand late night paranoia. Traveling alone and texting people keeps them updated on my goings (and updates their wishlists x'D)

(2/?) I know, right?? Things are so much cheaper in Korea D: When I was there, I hit up a cafe nearly every half day, haha. Sesame drinks are usually hot, but they taste a lot like asian sesame sweets? Nutty, and sometimes pretty sugary (depending on the place that makes it), but the hot liquid with it is steamed milk :D And yes! Hot Apple Cider! Would you try a Sweet Potato Latte? Those are really good too~ Hot Rice Drinks are a little odd to me, but I have a friend who likes those

(3/?) Oh! Taiyaki! Technically the Japanese name for the fish pastry, but you can have those in Japan too! Some of them are filled with chocolate or custard or matcha custard there :D I know what you mean; whenever I saw an interesting snack, I lined up and chowed down, haha. Good thing walking burns off all those extra calories! I’m guilty of trying a bunch of specialty Haagen Dazs ice cream flavors unique to those countries too X’D You’ll definitely feel the same way once you hit up a dog cafe

(4/?) Do you have any dogs yourself? Or cats? Pets, in general? While it’s not jiggly cheesecake, I did like the molten cheese tarts from Pablo Cheesecake in Japan! The tarts are smaller, so it’s easier to portion per person than one whole cake, haha. Uncle Tetsu is a well-known brand for jiggly cheesecakes, if you see one! And oh, don’t worry, please! You’re not scary or anything! I’m super comfortable talking to you actually. I’m just really - shy? Sort of? Thank you for worrying about it tho!

(5/?) True! I didn’t travel during fall/winter until after I graduated ;D now it’s just my go to time, haha. I’ve never made it to Japan for Sakura season because of that ;u; but it’s really expensive then anyways. Maybe someday~ I’d love to take photos of that! Omg yes, leggings everyday, all day - and definitely like potato versatility! Oo, maybe when you have a day to yourself, you could go to a nearby art museum and set up like those students, yourself? It might not be like the museums in-

Honestly, for the crane machine we played, there was 4 of us teaming up 1 machine and eyeballing which plushies would be the easiest to pick up. I’m pretty sure we were just really absurdly lucky that day (unfortunately for our bystanders)! Sometimes, if you’re very into the crane games and still fail, a nice passerby or staff might take pity on-

A good udon branch I tried had a Naruto for the logo, and it’s a chainstore, so it’s everywhere!

Or thought of trying a traditional Japanese breakfast? Those are all good too! I’m sure you’ll hit up Japan again and manage to do all the things you want to do! Maybe you’ll be in Japan when there’s a festival where you’re at! Japan has a looot of festivals after all ;D

hi, m’love! and thank you!! ahhh i’m so excited to be a potato this weekend :’) there’s also mother’s day though, so i have to wake up a little earlier than usual to buy some pretty flowers and maybe an orchid plant for her present. omg yes!! i hope you have lots of fun on the road trip! it’s honestly quite stress relieving and fun to just drive to wherever and enjoy the company of your friends. and same! i do that with my keys, plus i have pepper spray on my key chain, too. and i suppose having heavy textbooks in your bag helps in this instance because i can swing it around if i need to ahah. my friends are already updating their wishlists, too :’)

oh and! my parents decided to change the vacation dates today, and we’re going to be in asia even longer and i’ll be gone for almost all of august in japan and vietnam, so i can go to the concert?? but i don’t think i will because i already spent a lot of money for my t swift tickets and i’ll probably spend so much in japan and vietnam already haha because for me, i’d have to say plushies and good food > bts

i think inflation is pretty high in asia (with the exception of japan) in comparison to usa, so i’m glad things will be much cheaper! oooh, i hope i can go to a dog cafe every half day in japan aaskdjfas and i’ll have to try a sesame drink then! it sounds delicious. and yes! i’ll try the hot apple cider and sweet potato latte, too!   hot rice drinks sound interesting, so i want to try one, too :D

omg now i’ll definitely have to try every taiyaki filling available in japan. and oh my gosh, i didn’t realize how much walking people do in other countries until i realized i actually lost weight when i went on vacation in europe even though i had super rich foods everyday?? i guess usa food portions need to be downsized and i should start walking everywhere now. oooh, i do that with the lays chip flavors! they have unique flavors in different countries, too, and i always try them. i’ll have to look for the haagen dazs ice cream now. hold up, i need to write all of this in my notes on my phone. i don’t want to miss out on any good drinks and food!!

and i wish i did! i want a dog or cat so badly D: the only pet i ever had were fish. do you have any pets? molten cheese tarts sound like heaven, oh gosh, i need to write down these food places too! and oh good, that’s a relief!! i’m glad you’re comfortable talking to me :’)

ahhh i’ll just have to wait until after i graduate to travel more! i think it’s also cheaper during other seasons besides summer since that’s when students are free to travel, too, so hurray for saving money! omg photos of sakura season would be so beautiful. i hope you get to go during then one day!! i love leggings so much, like my goodness, they’re so comfortable. i wear them to bed and i don’t even have to change before i go to my morning classes the next day. 

there’s actually a museum on campus, but the thing is, a lot of the museums around here are more of modern art feel? like obscure abstract sculptures, minimalism, and a lot of photography. i really adore paintings and the older art styles, like renaissance, surrealism, photorealism, impressionism, etc. of course, all art is beautiful, but it’s more enjoyable for me personally to be drawing inspiration from realistic paintings.

ahah i’ll just ask my parents and sister to spot me while i play the crane machines then. hopefully, i’ll get one! wow, but passerby and staff help you win it? is everyone good at crane machines there?? i need them to teach me their ways, so i can stop losing money haha i’ll have to do that, too! hopefully, the suitcase fees aren’t too high.

sfljkhdafs dango sounds so good right about now. honestly, i saw that restaurant in nct life osaka and i love fishing and i love sushi, so i immediately thought, “i have to go there someday.” and the udon chain had a naruto logo on it? i’ll have to look it up, but i wrote it down in my notes! but now, i’m suddenly craving for ramen omg i’m just imagining it. and no, but i’ve seen so many videos of omurice! it looks really cool :o and is oden sort of like a hot pot? hot pot is always yummy, and my mom makes a vietnamese version of it often. oh gosh, i would love to try a traditional breakfast, but i usually don’t wake up early enough for breakfast ahah. and i hope so!! maybe one day, we can meet in japan :D

that’s good to hear! i’m glad the new manufacturer is working out so far. i don’t think i’ll be watching it soon since i’m pretty busy, but if you want to talk about it, i’m totally fine with that! and god, traffic is the worst D: but yes, the new bts photos are so beautiful aslkfjhalsd and i just went to my classes, did my homework and some studying, and watched tv with my roommates, nothing too exciting sadly. and thank you 💞💞 i hope you had a good day today!! also though, i just realized i don’t know who your bts bias is! who’s your favorite? :D and do you listen to any other kpop groups?
