Glad's Book List
I wrote a post recently about my history (normally I'd link it but I don't want to be narcissistic), and realized that I've read a fair few occult books over the years. So here's the list; I'll keep updating it as I find more books in my various libraries and book stashes.
Quick note before getting into this list--not everything I've read will make it. Just the stuff I read and recommend others parse through. For example, I have intentionally omitted my studies in Kabbalah to discourage others from unintentionally appropriating.
But by "parse through", I truly mean that. My path has meandered through several schools of thought and wandered into appropriative territory at times (I constantly strive to correct any appropriation in my practice that gets brought to my attention). Maybe about 20% of each book makes it into my current path.
Eh, so it wasn't so quick of a note. Here's the list:

"Beyond the Veil: Illuminating 'The Human Aura' by Swami Panchadasi (William Walker Atkinson)"
Tumblr media
Swami Panchadasi, the pseudonym for the prolific William Walker Atkinson, beckons readers into the ethereal realm of metaphysics and mysticism with his profound work, "The Human Aura: Astral Colors and Thought Forms." This timeless exploration of the invisible energies that surround and emanate from the human body offers a captivating journey into the esoteric dimensions of our existence. The title alone hints at the unveiling of the unseen, promising a rich tapestry of insights into the intricacies of the human aura.
Atkinson's expertise in the realms of mysticism and the occult is evident as he guides readers through the subtle yet profound aspects of the human aura. The aura, believed to be an electromagnetic field that encapsulates the physical body, is described in vivid detail by Panchadasi. The astral colors and thought forms, according to his teachings, provide a visual representation of an individual's emotional, mental, and spiritual state.
The language employed by Panchadasi is both accessible and poetic, allowing readers to grasp the complexities of metaphysical concepts without feeling overwhelmed. The intricacies of astral colors, thought vibrations, and the interplay between the physical and spiritual realms are presented in a manner that invites contemplation and introspection.
One of the notable strengths of "The Human Aura" is its practical approach. Panchadasi not only describes the theory behind the human aura but also provides exercises and techniques for readers to develop their own sensitivity to these subtle energies. The inclusion of practical applications enhances the book's value, allowing readers to engage with the material on a personal level.
The title characterizes the human aura as a dynamic canvas that reflects the inner workings of the mind and spirit. Panchadasi introduces readers to the idea that thoughts and emotions are not mere intangible concepts but possess a tangible existence in the form of vibrant colors within the aura. This perspective encourages individuals to become more attuned to their inner states and, subsequently, take charge of their spiritual and mental well-being.
However, it is essential to approach Panchadasi's work with an open mind, recognizing that the exploration of the aura and thought forms is rooted in esoteric traditions. The book delves into areas that might challenge conventional beliefs, urging readers to broaden their perspectives on the nature of reality and the interconnectedness of the physical and metaphysical realms.
In conclusion, "The Human Aura: Astral Colors and Thought Forms" by Swami Panchadasi, alias William Walker Atkinson, is a captivating odyssey into the unseen dimensions of human existence. The title, with its promise of exploring astral colors and thought forms, encapsulates the essence of the work. Panchadasi's eloquent prose, coupled with practical exercises, invites readers to embark on a personal journey of self-discovery and heightened awareness. As one delves into the pages of this mystical masterpiece, the invisible threads of the human aura are unraveled, revealing a world that transcends the limits of the physical and invites us to contemplate the boundless potential of the human spirit.
"The Human Aura: Astral Colors and Thought Forms." , is available in Amazon in paperback 12.99$ and hardcover 18.99$ editions.

Hello, can you do another description of circe for me please ʕ´• ᴥ•̥`ʔ
Circe in pisces at 25 degree rx, in the 12h sextile moon, quintile MC, opposite mars, square saturn and semi-sextile Uranus. 💓🤍💜
Thank you, I will be more than happy to see all the aspects in detail cause it's long . :)
second ask: “Oh I forgot to add it aspects the moon in 10th, mars in the 6th and my mc is in capricorn”
very in luck that i posted my ask boundaries after this ask. but for future reference - screenshot the aspect pdf and put it in here. because it was kind to add 10h moon so i know that it aspects from 12h to 10h. the opposition is rather straight forward (it often is the house opposite) but i have seen rare cases where its on the edge of being in the opposite house. but now you have left me to wonder where you saturn squares from as well as where your uranus semi-sextiles from? if that makes sense? if i just had the screenshot of aspects i wouldn’t need to wonder and give you a half-ass response for those aspects. nor would i be debating which mc based aspect is stronger, which trumps the mars one, etc. astrologers are only as good as their information.
circe rx: you may want to ease up on seeking revenge it could ruin your life… i always seem to think of circe and medea as different sides of the same coin in that way. circe didn’t get too much hate for her revenge seeking but medea did. so you may want to read the medea myth to see how much resonates. you too may feel you are hunted down for getting even. you may take others for granted just because you want to give what you receive - which isn’t a good way to go through life. you may often find yourself manipulated by others which only frustrates and fuels you more to want revenge. you may be interested in the occult or magic but find that your attempts don’t take you far. you may own a fair amount of books on the subjects but never open them, you may try to read a chart and think that you are understanding it then doubt yourself, you may confuse crystals, you may confuse herbs and purposed, etc.
pisces circe: you may find you are deeply connected to everything around you - to the point that people may say you are intuitive. circe knew that the men were no good at first sight. where you may be like circe - in a rough way - is circe saw odysseus as a hero and someone to worship - sometimes you may take gut feelings too far. circe end up being abandoned - you too may overlook possible negatives after first observation. like circe you may seek revenge because you put too much stock into situations and feelings. you may love too hard and feel betrayed too harshly. you may act as a karmic balance though as a pisces circe.
12h circe: circe had a following of large animals, so you too may like or have exotic pets that others typically do not have. your greatest weapon is likely your ability to manipulate others into doing your dirty work for you. you like circe may prefer to live in isolation - circe was living on the island alone until The Odyssey people showed up. you may have an interest in the unknown - in terms of magic, you may find yourself curious about meditation or astral projection.
aries circe (1°, 13°, 25°): you like circe may enjoy being queen of the island. you love power - circe of course was threatened by odysseus and the crew’s presence initially wanting to be rid of them. you may try to do the same when faced by those who threaten to take your power/authority. you may find you are easily bored with things; which could emphasize the circe rx portion of not having a steady grasp on the occult/magic in the way that you crave. you may find it hard to follow through with a ritual (like cord cutting - you may be the type to walk away because its taking too long (please never walk away from cord cutting rituals)) or with finishing a portion of a study. but if you really want it, the joy of an aries degree, you can have it.
12h circe - 10h moon: positive aspects: you may have a natural instinct to care for other beings that aren’t human. you could be an activist for large animals calling out fur in fashion, animal testing, zoos, etc. you find in your line of work you do a lot to keep those you work for out of that kind of trouble. you may be known as the person who is clever with their words in your workplace. mostly because your words come from a place of deep emotion and you want to make things right. you could write scripts for speakers who advocate for animal rights or for social change. you may find yourself being the caretakers for another’s land or home.
circe-mc: positive aspects: see other post.
12h circe - 6 mars: negative aspects: there is a lot of animal motif going on here so i very hate to crash and burn it but this could suggest that you had a bad go of things with a pet. 6h is pets while 12h is larger animals - you could have been younger and the animal seemed big to you OR it could have been one of those moments where fluffy the turtle “just ran away, sweetheart, he didnt like being cooped up in a tank i guess.” a moment in youth could have changed your views on animals. this too is reminiscent of the 10h aspects so look at the orbs to see which one trumps the other(s). you may find you do a lot of the heavy work and get left in the dust - circe sheltered odysseus for years and had his child, yet he left her. so you too may want to re-evaluate your workspace and check out whether you are being used to do all the leg work. ESPECIALLY if a masculine is involved, perhaps you have a crush on someone and struggle to say no to them. say no - they likely know they are using you to do their work and that you wouldn’t turn them down if they asked you to do something for them. life is a competition - friends don’t exist in the work force; set your boundaries, get your bag, and get out. no need to start drama or get revenge - just start doing your own stuff, so you could level up instead of those you are helping out.
circe-saturn: negative aspects: you may be constantly on guard about others taking you for granted or manipulating you into doing what they want. this does not mean be one step ahead and also manipulate other or take them for granted. you should learn to stifle these fears without restricting/disciplining others. you may have a cold disposition. you likely enjoy when justice is served (you probably watched the heard v. depp case really closely and were excited that depp won).
circe-uranus: positive aspects: you like circe love the freedom associated with being completely alone and away from your kind. you would likely enjoy trading humanity for cows on a farm or a home in louisiana where alligators are rather close. others are very likely to view your life as unconventional for this reason. you could probably shock someone with your skills of persuasion. circe-uranus often reminds me that magic / occult is not always myth, astrology, spell jars, herbs, etc. but rather modern magic is science! you may find that you are rather gifted at inventing new technology or scientific techniques.
hope this helps.
a.d.
p.s. please never dictate how much detail is okay v. not - it’s actually quite rude. i have a world that exists outside of tumblr. commentary like that makes it appear like some of my work is inadequate. i ask everyone to remember i am doing this for free - no exchange is happening, i’m not compensated. i do this because i like astrology; what i don’t like is being told how much work i should do or not do and when to do it though - this is social media it’s supposed to be fun.
p.s.s. next circe ask will be a full description of every placement - my policy is the more ask the more demand so might as well get all the descriptions out there like aphrodite’s and medusa’s posts.

The Devil Takes You Home by Gabino Iglesias
Being in the presence of monsters is okay as long as you don't think too much about what they're capable of. The scarier thing is when you realize what you're capable of yourself.
Gabino Iglesias' The Devil Takes You Home is a nightmarish odyssey through the cartel underworld and one man's monstrous grief. The book's title page call it 'a barrio noir'; an identifier that's spot-on, as Iglesias drags us through this vicious world, forcing us to endure the depths of hell as he vividly brings these grimy environs to disgustingly unforgiving life. The earthly violence is fueled by occult ideologies, making each act of brutality all the more disturbing, all the more shocking... all the more hopeless.
The Devil Takes You Home is far from a happy book; a creatively vile trek into desperation, the suspect roads down which it takes us only ever leading to the most unpredictably jarring corners of the most heinous recesses of the human soul. It's a deftly written piece of pitch-black fiction that's compulsively readable, nauseatingly violent, and so utterly bleak. In other words... it's a must-read.
"You know, because sometimes God is your copilot, but it's the Devil who takes you home."
8.5/10

4,10 and 11 for the book ask :)
4. What are your top 3 comfort reads?
God, I usually tend to childhood nostalgia for comfort reads! I'll throw one of those in there: Trixie Belden Mysteries (by Julie Campbell Tatham and "Kathryn Kennedy"). Kid detective stories set in the late 50s, aged a little better than I was expecting, but fully fucked up my sense of what a dollar was worth when I was a child 😆 (The various Blyton detective groups did not age nearly as well, but Nancy Drew remains a classic, though one i don't come back to often)
The Odyssey, transl Emily Wilson, which I don't think I have to sell the merits of to you lmao. My first brush with the classics as a teenager, and still my favourite! It's nice to come back to something I love and know how beloved it's been for so long.
The Dark is Rising Sequence by Susan Cooper. I read. A Lot. of Arthuriana themed YA as a teen, but this one was my Mum's favourite and subsequently became mine. I think I can still recite the prophecy from heart. I would die for Bran.
10. What is your favourite genre read to recommend to someone who isn't a reader of that genre?
I don't have a lot of these, I usually start with the issue and work back! I'll either look for a 'genre straddler' or a 'it's genre x but written like a genre y' vibes based approach. The Stephanie Plum/Numbers series by Janet Evanovich used to be my favourite 'thrillers that don't read like thrillers' to recommend, but I haven't revisited them in a Long while! If anything on this list will have aged poorly it'll be these, but a lot of the focus is on the will they/won't they dual romance (second chance and mystery badass leading men), and they're written like romcoms. The Martian by Andy Weir is a great intro sci fi as well, a shockingly easy read despite a lot of the concepts it's working with.
11. What is something you've recently reread?
...This is going to drive me up the wall because I don't log rereads on Goodreads OR my spreadsheet, and I KNOW I reread something recently argh.
I'm pretty sure it was A House with Good Bones by T Kingfisher, which I yelled about last time I did one of these memes. Rec stands, vultures, bugs, witches, mid century occult bullshit, chefs kiss. I'm also ABOUT to reread some stuff for my one uni class: My Year of Meats by Ruth Ozeki, who's main character and author I would like to argue with, and Home Fire by Kamila Shamsie, which I Love. It's an adaptation of Antigone set in the context 2010s British antiterrorism crackdowns and relations with Pakistan. Very compelling, Shamsie hit my buy list after reading that and I'm loving her other stuff as well.

Alchemy Unveiled: A Mystical Odyssey Through the Ages
Tumblr media
Arthur Edward Waite's "Lives of Alchemystical Philosophers" is a captivating journey through the annals of history, offering readers a profound exploration of the lives and philosophies of those enigmatic figures who sought the mystical secrets of alchemy.
In this meticulously researched work, Waite, a distinguished scholar of occultism, weaves a tapestry of narratives that brings to life the alchemists who, throughout the ages, delved into the transformative realms of spiritual and material transmutation. The book goes beyond a mere historical account, presenting these alchemists as multidimensional characters driven by an insatiable quest for knowledge and the philosopher's stone.
Waite's narrative prowess shines as he navigates the intricacies of alchemical symbolism and the hermetic traditions, providing readers with a comprehensive understanding of the cultural, philosophical, and spiritual contexts that shaped the lives of these alchemical pioneers. The author's erudition is evident as he seamlessly blends historical facts with esoteric insights, creating a narrative that is both informative and enchanting.
One of the book's strengths lies in its ability to demystify the often cryptic world of alchemy, making it accessible to readers with varying levels of familiarity with the subject. Waite adeptly bridges the gap between scholarly research and readability, ensuring that "Lives of Alchemystical Philosophers" serves as an engaging introduction for novices while offering depth for seasoned enthusiasts.
The author's portraits of alchemists such as Paracelsus, Flamel, and Hermes Trismegistus are vivid and compelling. Each chapter unfolds like a captivating story, revealing the struggles, triumphs, and profound insights of these alchemical visionaries. The Tarot of the Bohemians Our religious disputes for the supremacy of one creed over another would have caused much amusement to one of the ancient Initiate priests; they were unable to suppose that intelligent men could ignore the unity of all creeds in one fundamental religion. Sectarianism, chiefly sustained by two creeds, equally blinded by their errors, the Christian and the Mussulman, was the cause of the total loss of the secret doctrine, which gave the key to Synthetic Unity. Still greater labour is required to re–discover Synthesis in our Western religions, than to find it in Freemasonry. The Jews alone possessed, no longer the spirit, but the letter of their oral or Kabbalistic traditions. The Bible, written in Hebrew, is marvellous from this point of view, for it contains all the occult traditions, although its true sense has never yet been revealed. Fabre d’Olivet commenced this prodigious work, but the ignorant descendants of the Inquisition at Rome have placed these studies on the list of those prohibited.2 Posterity will judge them. Yet every cultus has its tradition, its book, its Bible, which teach those who know how to read them the unity of all creeds, in spite of the difference existing in the ritual of various countries. The Sepher Bereschit of Moses is the Jewish Bible, the Apocalypse and the Esoteric Gospels form the Christian Bible, the Legend of Hiram is the Bible of Freemasonry, the Odyssey the Bible of the so–called polytheism of Greece, the Æneid that of Rome, and lastly the Hindu Vedas and the Mussulman Koran are well known to all students of ancient theology. To any one possessing the key, all these Bibles reveal the same doctrine; but this key, which can open Esoterism, is lost by the sectarians of our Western creeds. It is therefore useless to seek for it any longer amongst them.

BOOK REVIEW: CIRCE BY MADELINE MILLER
Tumblr media
Circe: *Turns men into swine*
Me: Good for her 👏
How I heard about the book: After reading SOA by the same author
Summary (from Goodreads): In the house of Helios, god of the sun and mightiest of the Titans, a daughter is born. But Circe is a strange child--neither powerful like her father nor viciously alluring like her mother. Turning to the world of mortals for companionship, she discovers that she does possess power: the power of witchcraft, which can transform rivals into monsters and menace the gods themselves. Threatened, Zeus banishes her to a deserted island, where she hones her occult craft, tames wild beasts, and crosses paths with many of the most famous figures in all of mythology, including the Minotaur, Daedalus and his doomed son Icarus, the murderous Medea, and, of course, wily Odysseus. But there is danger, too, for a woman who stands alone, and Circe unwittingly draws the wrath of both men and gods, ultimately finding herself pitted against one of the most terrifying and vengeful of the Olympians. To protect what she loves most, Circe must summon all her strength and choose, once and for all, whether she belongs with the gods she is born from or with the mortals she has come to love.
My thoughts: For someone who vaguely remembers the story of Circe from high school lit class reading of the Odyssey, I enjoyed this one quite a bit.
I am not a big fan of first person writing so it took me a hot minute read: six months to get through this one. Character development definitely delivers and once Circe becomes the baddest bitch though I was hooked. Certainly left me nodding and muttering a sincere "We stan a queen" at just about every turn. Not gonna lie though, something about greek mythology will always lure me in.
Overall: Solid story telling though probably won't be a reread for me
Recommendations: Those with a great love for greek mythology
Rating: 3.5 out of 5
