Sailing towards Sustainability: Recycled Ocean Plastics Market Dynamics
The global recycled ocean plastics market size is expected to reach USD 2.91 billion by 2030. Growing marine plastic waste is anticipated to drive the growth of the industry over the forecast period. According to a report by United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), plastic accounts for 85% of all marine litter. By 2040, 23 to 37 million metric tons of waste will be added into the ocean per year which will triple the amount of plastic waste in oceans.

In oceans, plastic waste injures and kills seabirds, fish, and marine mammals because of ingestion, suffocation, starvation, infection, drowning, and entanglement. The sea turtles are the most affected because of plastic pollution because of entanglement in ghost gear and suffocation. The human population is also at risk as plastics enter the human body through the food chain. Microplastics can also be inhaled when suspended in the air. In water sources, plastic pollution can cause hormonal changes, reproductive abnormalities, developmental disorders, and even cancer. It also has significant consequences for the global economy. It can also lead to a rise in illegal international and domestic waste disposal. It is estimated that by 2050 there will be more plastic waste in the oceans than fish.
The Asia Pacific region accounts for over 80% of all the plastic waste entering the ocean. This is because of waste mismanagement, and the lack of waste collection and processing in several countries in the region. Recycling comprises only a small percentage of waste disposal methods, while open dumping is the most-used method to dispose of waste in Southeast Asia. Rivers are a major source of marine waste, and rivers in South and Southeast Asia constitute the largest sources of ocean plastic waste worldwide. For example, the river Pasig in the Philippines is the most polluted and is the major source of plastic pollution in Asia.

Day 159.
Matheson to Torkington Bay w / The Pod.
Finally a decent stint in the water after all the rain. M. bay was yellow as, but we swam out towards the point and I tucked into a little curve on the way to Torkington’s for a play and some photos while the pod swam on. The light is getting lower and it was misty but lovely. Some real barren spots with the kina and a significant lack of ecklonia, but as I kept diving lots of sweep and baby maomao came in for a look... plus a very flashy marble fish who did me a little dance. What a sweetie!

if you have a moment and are mentally able, please read the text accompanying the original instagram post, located at the source link above, and this short article by The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. if not, please just share it around. it's true this video is strikingly beautiful, but the truth behind it is, in my opinion, necessary for everyone to know.

zebra sharks are non-aggressive, and have few predators other than larger shark species that may be lucky enough to catch one in its jaws. as with other sharks, the largest threat to zebra sharks is humans.
zebra sharks are listed as vulnerable to extinction on the IUCN red list. the reason for the listing is largely human activities. they are heavily fished throughout their range except in australia. they are taken by inshore fisheries using bottom trawls, gillnets, or baited hooks.

🦈Shark Awareness Day🦈
July 14th - Sharks, skates and rays belong to a subclass of fish called 'Elasmobranchii', being notable for their primarily cartilaginous skeletons and unique diversity. Sharks play a vital role in maintaining stable ocean environments; by removing sickly fish, and controlling overpopulation of either invasive or smaller predatory fish in certain ecosystems. Filter feeders and sand sifters are just as important, being a part of the ocean's clean-up crew and nutrient cyclists. Unfortunately, over one-third of these species are at risk or threatened with extinction due to climate change and misconceptions being spurred on by popular media over the years (Jaws, Shark Week, etc.). The loss of these animals would lead to a decline in ocean ecosystem health around the world.

Happy Shark Awareness Day!!
In celebration of the best holiday to exist, I'm gonna share some of my favorite shark facts!! (I have a lot of favorite shark facts.)
Tumblr media
Sharks have no bones!! None! Nada! The only bones they have are their teeth. But Mal, what happened to their bones?? Idk buddy, we probably stole 'em or something.
Lemon sharks love getting pets and will even have favorite divers they seek out to get attention! If they see their diver giving attention to another shark, they can get jealous and try to chase the other shark away.
The largest Great White shark ever recorded is a female named Deep Blue! She is over 20ft long and weighs an estimated 2.5 tons!!
Sharks have been around for almost 455 million years!! That's why most of them are grumpy. They're just old :/
The smallest species of shark is smaller than the human hand. (Psst, it's the dwarf lantern shark.)
Sharks!! Can have!! Personalities!! Just like humans!! Some are confident and social, while others can be shy and cautious. There have been some sharks even found having anxiety!
Although sharks having AMAZING eye sight, scientists belive that sharks are mostly colorblind.
Sharks are continually shedding their teeth! Some sharks will shed over 20000 teeth in their lifetime!
Hammerhead sharks have binocular vision l, which means they can see 360 degrees!!
Humans don't taste good to sharks. I'm serious!! We really don't taste good to them. That's why most sharks just bite us and let go. We're nasty. (I wouldn't wanna eat us either)
Sharks are really, really cool creatures that don't deserve all the hate they get.
We depend on sharks to keep our oceans alive and healthy.
There are over 400 species of sharks. 75% of them are threatened with extinction.
But you can help!! Tell friends and family how awesome sharks are, and avoid buying products made with sharks.
You can advocate for the protection of sharks by signing petitions and calling your government officials and saying, "hey!! I'm a voter and I want sharks to be protected!"
Happy shark awareness day <3

On multiple reads + depending on how one interprets Zahndrekh's condition this opener is low-key devastating 😭 It's a case of YMMV of course, but if you believe Zahndrekh knows, like... that he chose to play Don Quixote to cope, even though he's always understood the reality he's in, and that Obyron resents their situation and is burdened by his behaviour... it's sad as hell that that he has to ask at all, you know? 'Glad you stayed?' isn't a sad question but the implication could be, if you take it as Zahndrekh's gentle reminder of what they were to each other - and the hope Obyron will find that worthwhile, even through their slow degradation and sadness. This is what made us glorious, Obyron, do you remember? Don't you think it splendid that despite everything, we are still here, and together to claim that glory? I'd like to think so. I think what we have is beautiful. It'll never be exactly as how it used to be, and I'm sorry about that, about me. About everything. But I still believe in hope because you are with me, and it means the whole world to me that you stay. Doesn't that mean anything to you? Tell me, Obyron, won't you stay a little while?
