Fic writer asks, 1 to 10, which means every number inbetween!
Let's get into it *cracks knuckles*
Do you prefer writing one-shots or multi-chaptered fics?
I prefer one shots (the pressure of writing the next chapter is REAL)
Do you plan each chapter ahead or write as you go?
For my current WIP, I have a rough outline, about 4 bullet points per chapter, but the rest is just vibes
Describe the creative process of writing a chapter/fic
"hmmm I haven't worked on my WIP in a while"... 1am, on my laptop, in bed, sometimes the words just come out, other times I spend hours looking into words and timelines and maps and retype the same sentence 20 times. At one point I think "haha nice", then I read it again, throw it to grammarly, correct the mistakes and then I post it :) (cue the obligatory waiting anxiously for comments 2 seconds after posting something)
Where do you find inspiration for new ideas?
SONGS. Sometimes also daydreaming (the Fëanor and Thranduil smut came from daydreaming, most hurt/comfort stuff comes from songs)
Do you like constructive criticism?
If it's something like a typo - YES. In all other cases, no. I'm new to writing and I feel like ANY criticism would discourage me.
Do you have your work beta'd? How important is this to your process?
No beta we die like Boromir 😂😂
How do you choose which POV to write from?
I usually do 3rd person, except for reader insert stuff, that's where I do 2nd person (I feel like that's the "convention")
Do you prefer the beginning, middle, or end of a story?
That depends, sometimes the middle is so daunting to write, but other times it's so FUN. I also like the end because you can leave your readers with a sense of "FUCK FUCK FUCK THIS IS NOT HAPPENING" which I LOVE
Do you comment on stories you read?
I try to, but recently I've been tired 24/7 so usually I just scream in the tags a bit
Cltr+f "blinks" on your WIP & copy paste the first sentence/paragraph that comes up
It's 1am and my laptop is shut off, but I'll try to do this tomorrow 🙃 I hope I don't forget 😂

hi burgers here’s my obligatory intro post
u can call me star, this is my anonymous crush sideblog where i ramble abt my silly little crushes bc god they consume my every thought and those thoughts have to go Somewhere lmao
pls use they/them pronouns for me, i am nonbinary :)
also i’m an adult (minors dni pls) and i have adhd, which is probably part of why my crushes take over so much of my brain (womp womp)
gonna tag reblogs with #reblog , responses to other ppls rambles with #response , and my own rambles with #star.txt (all tags r gonna b below this post)
probably gonna edit this post one trillion times to add details n dumb organisation systems bc they make my brain happy but for now it’s 1am lol
masterlist of everyone i mention
Tumblr media
some life context so far:
- i’m in my first year of college / uni rn
- i’ve been in two relationships before this, both times w close friends, one ended on mutual terms n we’re still friends, the other ended so badly and we don’t talk anymore lol
- aside from those ive had a bunch of shorter crushes that r basically fun distractions for me to indulge in in my own brain. i’m kind of a coward though in terms of actually acting on them and usually they stay in my brain forever :)

bucky rents a place in delacroix close to sarah’s house under the pretext of convenience and not having to impose on sarah every time he comes to visit (which is a lot, like spending more time in louisiana than in ny a lot). sam, sarah, aj and cass all help decorate it. it feels much more like home than new york ever did post ww2.
the first time he refers to it as home is after a particularly long and tiring mission, he says to sam “let’s go home”. and it’s like 1am by the time they get back so bucky tells sam to just sleep at his place (insert obligatory only one bed trope here if desired lol) and when they wake up and have breakfast it just feels so right and effortless. later sam asks about the place in delacroix being home for bucky and bucky (being a huge sap) is like it’s home because you’re there.
cue them moving in together and all the domestic fluff

How do you get people to always buy your dragons? Genuine question
i was gonna say something like “haha i have no fucking clue” but that would be a lie i think about this a lot actually so i might have some insights i’ve been breeding dragons as my primary activity on FR since i started playing FR (in 2014...) and people have only started actually buying dragons from me consistently like, 5-6 months ago, despite 2-3 attempts at running a genuine hatchery onsite that always died due to lack of interest & not really being worth the effort.
so ive thought a lot about what the hell is happening now and why my dragons are suddenly consistently selling and I think ive come down to these being the main points of advice i can give: 1. make friends! be friendly! don’t be weird! be a cool and fun person to interact with! 2. post consistently. post your dragons consistently. post about other stuff consistently. just be an active member of the community 3. POST YOUR SHIT IN THE “#FLIGHT RISING” TAG. THIS IS PROBABLY THE ONLY TRUELY HELPFUL THING I SAY IN THIS POST 4. make pairs that are sexy as hell and be openly proud of them. make dragons and pairs that you like, not what you think will necessarily sell. people can tell when you like stuff and being genuinely passionate about something, whatever the fuck it is, will get other people passionate as well longer versions/explanations under the cut because man this got a mile long. i wasn’t kidding when i said i think about this a lot and i am so sorry if you wanted something concise and useful
1. to be a little glib. i am mutuals/friends with more clout in the FR community than I do kjdshfdsfdhjhkfdf shoutout to everyone who draws their dragons really good on a regular basis because i am riding on your coattails to sell my dragons. i love you this was never my intent, obviously! DO NOT BEFRIEND PEOPLE BECAUSE YOU THINK YOU WILL GET STUFF FROM THEM IT’S JUST A REALLY BAD THING TO DO TO PEOPLE!!! i wouldn’t be friends w/ people if i didn’t genuinely like and get along with them! no amount of pixel cash is worth putting up with people you dont like or abusing people you admire!  but i’d also somehow feel wrong to just... neglect mentioning this factor. idk it’s probably a self-esteem thing sjdkgfhdsf i just Don’t feel like my #success has been totally out of my own effort because its not like im #hustling or whatever i just posted dragons and stuff happened
-----
2. being consistent! just. posting consistently! posting Every Hatchling I Have and Talking About Them On Tumblr!  Once I had a couple nests just sell super fast likely due to aforementioned clout, i was emboldened to just post more of my nests more often and I swear this has more effect than anything else. i just needed the self-esteem boost to Start Doing That posting consistently makes ppl follow u for ur content which gets even more people to look at your dragons which gets more people to buy your dragons.
-
2a. Also just post a lot in general, even if you aren’t necessarily posting about your dragons for sale. it definitely helps! just be friendly and active and people will come
-----
3. post your shit in the tag. not in “#dragon-sales” or “#fr-dragon-sales” or anything weird like that because I don’t know if anyone actually looks at those, but people definitely browse “#flight rising”. no matter how many followers you have, more people will see your content if you post it in #flight rising than if you just chuck it into the void.
-
3a. however! do not put links into the post if you want it to actually show up in the tag. tumblr is cool in that it doesn’t actually matter that much when you post something, the same way it really matters on twitter bc twitter has algorithms that decide for you what it thinks you want to be seeing whereas tumblr just shows you everything in chronological order. if you post something into the tag at 1am... it will still be there at 2pm when people log on and start scrolling.
the only thing tumblr seems to consistently hide from a tag (and possibly a dashboard, but idk) are posts with links in them, as a half-assed attempt to limit spam. instead of linking to your sales tab/to the dragons directly in the post, reblog it with the links instead. to reduce latency between a post going up and the links being available, i type out the links in the initial post, cut them, post the thing into the tag, then very quickly reblog, paste the links, and post the reblog jdhfsdf. i don’t know if that benefits anything really? but it can sometimes take me a while to type links, so if i posted, pressed reblog, typed up all the links, then posted, it’d be like ~15 minutes where someone may see the post, think “oh i would like to buy those dragons”, then can’t find the link, think “oh well, i will just find it later”, scroll on, and just... completely forget about it. so uh. go quick?
-
3b. the armchair sociologist in me also thinks self-reblogging has the added benefit of like... you know how people are more likely to tip a barista when a dollar is already in the tip jar? or how people are more likely to take one of those little tabs on a flyer if one of them is already missing? i think that works with notes, too. i don’t know why i think that or why it happens i just swear once a post gets 1 note, suddenly it gets Even More Notes, and if it doesn’t get any notes for a while it will sit at 0 notes until the end of time. so giving yourself 1 obligatory note makes people more likely to interact. i think
-----
4. all of these are hard to quantify but this one is especially so: have cool and unique dragons. make your pairs sexy as hell. don’t put all your eggs (hah) into the one basket of selling dragons that are technically “popular”. we have all seen triple white/triple obsidian/triple orca/triple any other popular colors and cherub/pere/stained or wasp/bee/glim pthahlos or whatever. they’re pretty! we get it! but everyone has had one and everyone has had those pairs and market for dragons like that can be super oversaturated. try to break free from that and sell dragons that people can only get from you. I can’t tell you what to do though bc that rly depends on you. make pairs that you find exciting or interesting and people will feel that. i have a very specific theme and aesthetic that i don’t feel like is especially common on FR and i am genuinely very enthusiastic about it. marine shit is my Thing:tm: both on and off FR and dragons are one of my many ways of expressing that   if you have a Thing:tm:, either some fr-centric aesthetic (like being super into plague or earth or light or something) or something more general (such as any of the -punks or -cores)... just fuckin roll with it honestly. if you’re goth? make got h dragons. like scene stuff that looks straight out of a middle school in 2010? rock that hot-topic lair. outdoorsey type? make dragons that look like you’d meet them on a hike in the woods. it really works with anything!  people can tell when you really love something and i know that seeing someone really love something, even if it’s not necessarily MY thing, makes me really excited too!!
-
4a. never show fear. people can smell fear. never be like “well this one isn’t that good” because suddenly now you’ve planted the idea that it’s ugly in other people’s heads when they may have really liked it had you not accidentally suggested to them that it’s an ugly dragon. people are EXTREMELY suggestible to even VERY minor cues so be always a little bit bolder than you think you should be you’d be surprised at how many times ive been like “eh, this one’s kind of a dud, i’ll probably have to exalt this one when the auction expires” and then that hatchling is the first to sell. never ever ever ever decide what other people like for them. always act like your dragons are the hottest shit in all the land and Believe It. this is what people mean when they say “fake it till you make it”
- 4b. also, idk if it’s true of everyone but it’s really off-putting to see someone having serious pity-parties for themselves, on sales posts or otherwise. ive had bad experiences with people who are uncomfortably quick to self-depreciate (because they were using their genuine self-hatred to manipulate me or my friends), so i might be a little more trigger-happy about avoiding this behavior than others, but don’t weaponize your sadness to guilt people into doing what you want. it’s really not cool.
-----
okay i think that’s my entire manifesto on how i do dragon selling. anon i am so sorry im sure you were expecting like “believe in yourself :)” and here i am dissecting dragon selling like it’s a frog in a science class
edit: AFTER ALL THAT I STILL THOUGHT OF ONE MORE THING. It’s not really a Point, just a Reminder:
i don’t post about all the times i have to exalt dragons that don’t sell. you are seeing me being very selective about what i post. you dont sit and stare at my lair or click through offspring lists or check old sales posts. there are a lot of times where someone just doesn’t sell. even now when i’m selling stuff pretty consistently i will still sometimes have dragons that don’t sell for seemingly no reason. even dragons I think are sure to sell will sometimes just... not. and that’s ok! you gotta just be.. ok with that. it’s par for the course. i typically list dragons for 7 days on the AH, give them a couple more days after their auction expires (partially because i forget, partially to give them a grace period for people to pm/ask me about them), and then exalt them after that point. w/ some dragons that i don’t think got a fair shake for one reason or another (such as the sales post not showing up in the tag or something) i do a little clearance (like the halloween dragons i recently posted) but for the most part if they don’t sell, i just exalt them. 90% of the time i don’t even bother to level them up i just press the exalt button and call it a day. it’s fine

Okay, so I wrote a wall of text regarding my ✒️INKTOBER 2019 experience. While it is my first ever finished Inktober, and I’m not a master of it whatsoever, I just wanted to share my first-hand thoughts, experience, some advice I would give and so on! I wrote it for friends, but I decided to share it publicly!
Feel free to ask me some questions if you have any! More below. 👇
Things to keep in mind on how I did my Inktober:
All sketches were done before the event itself.
I made my own prompt list and divided them in 3 parts: JJBA, TES, GW2 (10 days for each) + 1 pigeon drawing = 31 days.
I would ink a prompt the day before posting (e.g. on Day 15 I was already inking for Day 16, and so on).
Another note: bolded text is TL;DR
⚜️ Inktober is a really challenging event. It really does require preparations beforehand, and discipline, especially if you have a busy life alongside. So, preparing yourself a month ahead doesn’t devalue your participating in the event, and it is, honestly, advised to do so (unless you are Kim Jung Gi)! Try to find what suits you: Preparations a month or two before? A week? Few days before?; I actually compiled all of my finished sketches a few days before it started.
Reasons I couldn’t finish the last 3 Inktober events fully were because of two things: I overextended myself (didn’t have sketches ready) AND I didn’t have time. This year college blessed me with more free time and I decided to ink already prepared sketches. 1/3 of work was already done!
⚜️ (PERSONAL) A decision that made this Inktober way more motivating, fun and less stressful for me was having my own ideas/prompts! I actually first printed out the official prompt list, went to research every word so the drawings wouldn’t be too literal, and tried to pair up with existing sketches, but it didn’t work out so well. I wanted to have fun and fulfill myself by finally finishing sketches/ideas that were drawn either a few months or years ago. I also had a lot of fun coming up with words that would be assigned for that day, some even have double meanings!
I think following the official prompt list is a great way to challenge yourself and coming up with totally new ideas. But I already had ideas, so I went against it.
⚜️ Your wrist and hands will very possibly hurt, and it’s obligatory to stretch them and not overextend yourself! I would just simply stop drawing on the spot, go to bed and finish it in the morning even if the prompt’s assigned day was over. I didn’t want to risk injuring myself.
Important because of my current situation: reason I hurt my hand was because I already drew at college in the morning and afternoon and then drew again in the evening (so I drew THE WHOLE DAY), as well as not having my hand relaxed but cramped instead while drawing… I also should have stretched from the beginning.
⚜️ On my first week with JJBA, I actually drew more than necessary for a single day (like 4-5 characters a day; this is me overextending myself). I wanted to continue doing this, but I noticed I wasn’t having them done on time and I was getting tired the longer it lasted. So, I removed some sketches I originally planned to ink which means it involved quick thinking, decisions and solutions. After that I mostly stopped drawing either more characters than necessary, stopped having them drawn as detailed, having the lines clean, having it shaded and so on.
⚜️ One thing that immensely helped me regarding quality is: having an Inktober drawing done the day before. So, when I would finish it the night before posting, I would check its quality in the morning before scheduling it the very same day… Are the proportions alright? Do they have two left hands? Balanced tones and composition? With that I was 90% satisfied with all of my final drawings. GW2 week might have some errors because I did them in one day without checking the quality properly as I did with the others (I had a bad week irl as well).
⚜️ After passing 19-21 days, I had no problem whatsoever sitting my ass down, drawing and finishing the prompts. Inktober is excellent for gaining/building self-discipline. It also made me realize how I can finish a full drawing in a single day if I wanted to (though having in mind I had sketches already prepared and I checked the drawing’s quality the next day before posting).
⚜️ (RELATIVE) Inktober is great for gaining exposure on social media. I added “relative” in the brackets because I later realized not everyone gains exposure equally. I noticed some people don’t get any notes even if they finished the whole event. I can’t say for certain how to gain exposure, but I’ll say some elements that I think might be a factor for me gaining what I did. In short:
I’ve been on this website for 5 years.
I have interacted with other people here.
I draw fanart.
Luck (something I nor anybody else can’t control).
Here is my personal experience: I was pretty blown away how much I gained followers and likes/notes/retweets/reblogs/etc. on posts. On Tumblr I gained +100 followers, on Twitter, I think, +50. My posts on Tumblr gained minimum +30 notes, max +600 notes, on average +100 notes. On Twitter, I always had like 3 likes, now I have 10 hhh, with some exceptions which gained +20.
⚜️ Regarding my free time, I focused it mostly for Inktober. Which means, some things were sacrificed and I didn’t really do stuff I would normally do, like gaming, chatting online, go out with friends, read a book, watch a series/movie, etc.
⚜️ There were often times where I didn’t sleep enough because of Inktober. I would go to bed around 1am or even 2am. That was mostly at the beginning, later I started to draw way earlier so I would be done around 11pm or 12am. I would start around 8pm or 9pm. I would come back home around 5pm or 6pm and rest for 2 hours. Also know that I goofed around at times… I am guilty of chatting with a jojo peep during my JJBA week hhh (I don’t regret it I had a lot of fun!! 💙). But when I was 100% focused, I think I finished the drawings in 2 hours minimal, max 3-5 hours.
——
As I mentioned, this is all my personal experience, so certain things may vary from person to person! Thank you for giving it a read, I hoped it helped in any way!
Cheers!

Engineered Humans
Tumblr media
-> Since the war is over the world claims to have learned from the past. "We have abandoned hate and learned to love what makes us different" they say proudly. But that's a bunch of lies. The hate never left. It was simply transfered onto a new target. We claim we are on a new path, a path of equality, where everyone enjoys the same rights. But it seems our world can't manage to build a society that doesn't build on oppression. So it seems no one wants to learn from the past and history is an endless replay of the same mistakes
Traits:
->Skills
Increased strength
Increased senses and responsiveness
Long life spans (~200 years)
Stop aging after hitting 25
High mathematical abilities and fast thinking
->Appearance
White hair
glowing blue eyes (no pupils)
mechanical parts covered in artificial skin
no fingernails (conversion/engineering exclusive, feature lost on enhanced humans)
Origin: in 58 OW (old ways) the Egyptian government started engineering children born to poor parents and slaves to be used as perfect soldiers. The constructors of this new race were called "architects".
Engineered humans had no names and were organized by serial numbers.
After The Liberation and world wide illegalisation of slavery in 0 nP (new path) the government was forced to stop forcibly taking the populations children. Instead they changed to converting regular soldiers.
Since enlistment was obligatory, many people were still engineered against their will. Their old names were erased and they were regarded as machines.
After the induction of the Final Peace and foundation of the FOUR association in 131 nP, there was no more need for perfect soldiers. The wars were over.
Instead they were converted into the perfect factory worker, problem solver, test dummy etc.
New engineered humans were made. The Egyptian secret was shared with the other world powers as a sign of peace and community and new engineered humans had their future dictated by FOUR.
Further history: Homeless children and orphans were given a new home in FOUR facilities, engineered and raised to know their designed place. Some unborn children were sold to the organization by poor parents who had no means to raise them and needed money.
But those children did not stop being human. For over 80 years rebellion was ignored or silenced until an organized strike led by Madu 064, who was one of the first engineered to give himself a name, forced FOUR to finally defend themselves before an international court against the accusation of slavery in 203.
The case stretched over almost a decade but finally it was declared that the organization was acting against the Anti Slavery Act of 0 nP and the engineered humans were liberated.
Today: Most forms of human engineering have been declared illegal, apart from application in life saving instances (otherwise deadly accidents, babies born without the ability to survive on their own etc). These people are no longer considered "converted" but rather "enhanced".
Engineered humans fight a lot of stigma and are still generally regarded as less human. Often they are derogatorily titled "Postmen" - suggesting they're no longer human - (and even hunted for sport in some regions, although that's illegal of course.) They face prejudice from the system, especially if they aren't following their intended purpose and are often treated like criminals.
Notable members of this 'species' :
Tumblr media
064 (deceased), soldier; converted in 3nP at the age of 19
Tumblr media
Madu 064 (deceased), freedom activist; engineered before birth
Tumblr media
Khepri (176), former servant drone; converted when she was 12
Tumblr media
Liz Wilson (31), scientist; enhanced at a young age after an accident

Soo I wrote this post wayy back in October, thinking I would actually get my shit together and write, but as you know I didn't do shit during Nano. I'm thinking of actually trying but I think I'd work a bit smaller for a start, because this story has a lot going on from the lore I've gathered so far.

Obligatory First Post/Rules
Hey y’all and welcome to the Unessential, Unimportant, Unnecessary, and Unpaid for by the City of Raleigh guide to life in Raleigh.  I’m making this blog because my girlfriend assures me that such a niche interest might get some traction, and as such, I’ve been bullied into it.
So, as the name suggests, I’ll be using this blog to post lists/articles/fun things about living in the City of Oaks; like where to catch a meal at 1AM or which backroads are the most fun to drive down when it’s 3AM and you’re alone with your thoughts.
I’m also gonna put some rules on this first post, and sticky it.  Not because a travel guide hidden under Tumblr memes needs a strict set of guidelines, but more so guests can know what to expect when they read this page.
———————————————————————————————————–
1.  This blog covers the Triangle area of North Carolina, focusing mostly on Raleigh.  For out of towners, this means Raleigh, Cary, and Morrisville with slight dips into Durham.   Doesn’t mean I won’t ever post something about OBX, Wilmington, Wilson, Beulaville, etc; just that if I post “Top 10 Places to Get Yelled at” and I didn’t include the Henderson Screaming Cup then I don’t need a dozen DMs telling me I forgot.
2.  I’m not gonna post pictures of myself. Leaves more room for pictures of the city.
3.  If I post something that’s OBJECTIVELY wrong (I.E.  “The park in this area closes at 7PM EST” when it really closes at 9PM), send me a quick DM and I’ll post a quick edit and possibly an apology.  Just be sure to be polite when pointing it out, I have feelings too.
4. Articles posted may or may not correlate to how much I can torture my girlfriend by making her snap the pictures for it.
5.  This blog is not paid for, sponsored by, or otherwise affiliated with the local NC government.  IF somehow I’m contacted for a sponsored post or something, then I promise right here and now to make sure that it’s obvious to everyone who reads the post.  Cheers all, and hopefully I don’t drop this concept in two weeks

They say you tore the earth asunder and stole me away But they forget that I am a goddess in my own right And the earth has always been mine to command, not yours.
They say you starved me and tempted me with a pomegranate But they forget that gods and goddesses feel no hunger, no thirst And that nothing grew in the underground until I willed it so.
They say you dragged me kicking and screaming to the altar But they forget that our lifelines tangle together like vines And it is young maids, not old gods, who are skilled with knots and braids.
They say you stole and starved me, cursed and condemned me But they forget, or perhaps they never knew And so in none of their stories do they say that –
I loved you first, the way dark things are meant to be loved: In the dead of winter, in the land of dead men and untold tales; I loved you in secret, and a secret it remains.
Life is too hectic for me to write anything new right now, so here, have this little thing I wrote months ago and keep forgetting to share.
Inspired by the last lines of XVII from Neruda’s 100 Love Sonnets.

Southern Peru (2 weeks and 60+ hours of buses)
My glorious pal Matt arrived in Lima to a slightly manic day of last minute trip bookings, city and extremely ancient ruin exploring and sunburn. The day ended with us eating dinner in an old train carriage in Barranco, things were off to a good start.
The next morning we were finally leaving Lima, with our (thankfully painless) 4 hour bus to Ica to stay in 'Banana's Adventure', a hostel we'd been recommended. It did not disappoint, with an amazing sandboarding tour included, a hostel pool and some really great food. The following day we headed to Paracas for a tour of the Ballestas Islands where we saw a dolphin, sea lions, starfish and a whole load of birds, including penguins and pelicans. We then headed back to Ica for our long night bus to Cusco.
18 hours of sitting next to some awful smelling toilets while hurtling round corners when we already felt ill was not fun but the scenery when the sun rose in the morning was incredible. The bus wove right through the Andean mountains, with every turn (and there were a lot of them) giving way to more breathtaking views.
We finally arrived in Cusco on New Years Eve and after a minor mishap with our accommodation (we'd booked for January instead of December) we headed to bed to catch up on as much sleep as possible. In the evening we met some Danish friends from Lima who taught us a weird drinking game and then headed on to the main square to witness the most chaotic fireworks display I have ever seen. Large and small fireworks were let off by the crowd all around us, which once you were over your terror, had the most incredible atmosphere. After an obligatory walk around the square in our yellow underwear (it's meant to give you good luck) we headed to bed.
The next morning we headed to our Air BnB and met some American friends from Lima for some exploring. After a short walk up hill (an absolute marathon at altitude) we decided to do a horse ride round some of the main attractions. Unfortunately, about 15 minutes into this ride we were caught in one of the most torrential downpours I have ever witnessed, which pretty much instantly left us completely soaked and freezing. We bailed on the tour, heading home for showers and then meeting back up for pizza. Later we headed round the shops and ended up stumbling on another entirely chaotic fireworks display in the middle of a market, with explosions barely above our heads and sparks landing perilously close to some very flamable looking stalls. It's a miracle to me that Cusco is still standing.
Our Rainbow Mountain hike had a 3am pick up the next morning. A mediocre breakfast was improved by a beautiful 4 hour drive through the countryside, despite several very close calls as our bus hurtled round cliff faces with huge sheer drops beside. We'd been warned a lot about altitude and proper hiking equipment, but after the days before rain we were left to hike at 4900m in trainers. The climb was really tough, especially on the tight time limit we were given but well worth it. Lunch was a far better buffet of traditional food and by the time we got home around 8pm we were very ready for bed.
We were up at 3 again the next day, this time for our day trip to Machu Picchu. We were picked up for a 2 hour drive to a 2 hour train ride which got us to Aguas Calliante in time for a wander round before catching the bus to meet our guide at Machu Picchu for 10am. We were super lucky with the weather all day, with the clouds having already cleared by the time we arrived and barely any rain until we hiked up to the 'Sun Gate' late in the day. We headed back to Aguas for dinner in the evening and finally got home around 1am.
Seemingly enjoying not sleeping we were up at 6am for a 6 hour bus to Puno, a town next to Lake Titicaca. On arrival we wandered around the friendly feeling town and booked a lake tour for the next morning. We had an amazing 3 course dinner for about £3.50 and drank some fancy alcohol in a mixology bar. The Lake tour took us out to the Uros Reed Islands to learn about how the islands were made and the lives of the hundreds or so families who still live there. We then did a beautiful 2 hour kayak trip before heading up to a local house overlooking the lake for a delicious homemade lunch. We pretty much crashed out all evening in preparation for our final bus together.
At 7am we headed for the 6 hour bus to Arequipa, booked a Colca Canyon tour through our hostel and headed off to find dinner, stumbling across a Christmas parade in the main square. The Cola tour took us through more gorgeous mountain scenery and beautiful small towns. After checking in to our hostel at the edge of the canyon, Matt and I and 2 American girls we'd made friends with headed to the nearby natural hot springs. In the morning we headed further into the canyon to look for Colca Condors, which despite the season we were lucky enough to see a few of, even if from a distance.
Back in Arequipa we lost a day to feeling grim and eating rubbish food to try and comfort us. On Matts final day we met up with the American friends from Lima and Cusco and wandered round the city before stumbling upon a climbing center where we spent the afternoon.
As Matt left for the airport, I headed for a bus back to Puno and on to Copacabana in Bolivia.
I apologise for the very list like form of this post but it's hard to fit in just how much we did in the 2 weeks we had together. Travelling with Matt was an absolute dream and I'm going to miss him and Peru a whole lot.
