I had a thought! You'd said you liked to write for Bacara but he was sorta niche... what if reader needed to learn Bacara - as *he* wants to be known. Let's say that Reader catches his attention (do we want to do medic!Reader?) and whether it's Bacara coming in with a brother or himself as the patient, he develops Feelings for Reader. He wants Reader to know what makes him unique from his brothers, his best qualities... allllllll that stuff, but I'm also trying to utilize this as an intro to Bacara because I don't know a thing about him! *the truth comes out* So like Bacara's Best Sides, According To Him or something? Best Of Me

Summary: You're a Doctor attached to the Nova Corps, and Commander Bacara is a mystery wrapped in an enigma. Luckily, he wants to be more open with you.

A/N: I couldn't quite make your request work as written based on Bacara's personality, but I hope that this is okay too!

“How are you holding up?” You look up from where you’re checking your kit, and it takes you a moment to recognize Commander Bacara under all of the muck covering his armor.

“Oh, Commander,” You straighten, “I’m okay. This isn’t really what I was expecting when I was sent to the Nova Corps, though.”

You watch as he removes his helmet and sets it on a chair, and you frown when you see a bruise over his eye, not to mention the dark circles under his eyes.

You fight the urge to force him to sit down to give him a full exam. Commander Bacara only allows his brothers to give him medical attention. You know this.

“You’re not doing terribly,” Bacara says, high praise coming from him honestly, “I half expected you to complain about being forced to leave the ship.”

You frown at him, slightly hurt, “I wasn’t aware that you had such a low opinion of me, Commander.”

He blinks at you, seemingly surprised by your words, “I…no. That’s not what I meant.”

You squint at him. Commander Bacara is a loner, the other men in the Nova Corps were all very careful about making sure that you knew that. They warned you that he, likely, wasn’t going to talk to you much, and when he did, he was going to insult you.

And, in the year that you’ve been assigned to this battalion, you’ve come to recognize that he is something of a loner. And a perfectionist. But never rude, and in fact, this is the closest he’s ever come to insulting you at all.

“Are you alright, Commander?” You ask, “Did you take a hit to the head?”

He frowns at you, “I don’t have a concussion.”

“I think you should let me be the judge of that, don’t you?” You ask gently, though you don’t move closer to him. If he doesn’t want you to treat him, then you won’t. But if he leaves, then you will shoot a message to Syringe, the CMO of the Nova Corps.

Bacara doesn’t say anything for a moment, and then he sighs, “Fine, but make it quick. I need to get back to General Mundi.”

You smile at him warmly, “Of course, Commander.”

He sinks into one of the chairs, and you walk over to give him a quick exam. You keep your touch gentle, not wanting to give him any reason to now want to come back to you for medical attention, “This is really unnecessary,” he grumbles.

“Better safe than sorry, right Commander?” You ask with a bright smile as you tilt his head back slightly, “Any nausea?”

“None.”

“Headache? Dizziness?”

“No, and no.”

You move your fingers to his jaw to tilt his head a little bit, but his hands come up and wrap around your wrists. Firmly, but not roughly, “I’m fine. You don’t have to worry about me.”

“Worrying is what I do, Commander. It’s part of my job. But you seem fine, so I’ll let you get back to work.”

“I appreciate it.” He releases your wrists and gets to his feet.

Bacara towers over you, but you’ve never been intimidated by him. Instead you smile at him, warm and soft, and then you step away to go back to your project.

Bacara grabs his helmet and he hesitates for a moment, “Hey, Doc-?”

“Hm? Is something wrong, Commander?”

He absently passes his helmet from one hand to the other, “No. Not wrong.” Bacara finally says, before he flashes the smallest smile in your direction, “I’d like to get to know you better, when we have the time.” He admits, “I know what my brothers told you about me…and I’d like you to meet the real me.”

You blink at him, and then you flash a bright smile, “I look forward to it, Commander.”

His small smile widens a little bit, and then he pulls his helmet on and he’s gone. Back to the fighting. Back to the war.

You turn back to your work, a small grin on your lips.

You’re not unused to the men in the Nova Corps flirting with you. For some of them it comes as easily as breathing. But Bacara has always been a little different.

Honestly, you’re not even sure if he was flirting with you. But hey, a girl can dream, right?

Bacara sighs as he walks through the darkened halls of the ship. It’s late enough that he should be in bed, just like the majority of his brothers, but he can’t seem to settle his mind enough to actually get some rest.

The Nova Corps has been fighting on this planet for four months now, and he’s long since moved past tired and onto full on exhausted.

But, since he can’t sleep, he might as well get some work done…or maybe just work out some of the energy on the training mats.

He pauses as he passes the medbay. The light is still on, which is strange, since he knows that there’s no patients at the moment. Lightly he raps on the door, and then slides the door open.

And the moment he sees her, his breath catches.

To be completely frank, his crush on the pretty doctor is humiliating. Especially since he knows he’s one of over a dozen men who are crushing on her. One of over a dozen identical men, many of whom are more approachable than he is.

She lifts her gaze from her datapad, and her pretty eyes zero in on him, before a brilliant smile crosses her lips.

Bacara feels his heart skip a beat, she really is unfairly pretty. And that smile of hers should be classified as a weapon with how much it affects him.

“Commander!” Even her voice is unfairly pretty.

He’s so kriffed.

“You’re up late,” Bacara notes as he glances around the room, and sees that all of the beds are empty, “Shouldn’t you be taking a break?”

She laughs, “I laid down and ended up just tossing and turning, so I thought I’d just bore myself to sleep.”

He pauses, “Want some company?”

“I would love some company.”

He steps into the room and allows the door to slide shut behind him as he crosses the room and sinks into the chair across from her with a sigh.

She’s still smiling at him, all warm and pretty, “So, why are you awake?”

“Couldn’t sleep.” Bacara admits as he tilts his head back, “I’m so kriffing tired, but I can’t sleep.”

Her smile is sympathetic, “I have something I can give you to help you sleep, if you like.”

“That’s nice of you, but no thanks.” He glances at you, “So, what are you working on?”

“Just making my notes in the files of the men who saw me today,” She rests her chin on the palm of her hand, her gaze locked on his face, “It’s a shame that we’re always jumping from one battle to another. I have some ideas that I wanted to try to work on-”

“Yeah?”

She shrugs, “I’m a medical doctor, yeah, but I started off as a medical researcher.”

“Researching what?”

“Viruses, bacteria, cancers,” She shrugs one shoulder, “Honestly, I find your enhanced aging fascinating, and with enough time I’m sure I could reverse it.”

Bacara stares at her, “Why would you do that?”

“Because you all deserve a chance at a regular life when the war is over,” And then she laughs softly, “I haven’t actually started doing any research yet though.”

“Why not?”

“I wasn’t sure anyone would agree. And I didn’t want to get anyone’s hopes up.”

“You should. I’ll let you take blood or whatever from me,” Bacara offers.

“I might just take you up on that offer,” She replies with a small smile, “You know, I think this is the longest conversation we’ve ever had.”

“Yeah, well…” He shrugs, “I know my brothers told stories about me.”

“They did.” Her voice is soft, “I haven’t found any of the stories to be true, though. I think you’re very likable.”

Bacara’s heart flips again, “...how likable?” He can’t stop himself from asking.

She laughs, though there’s nothing cruel about it, “Very likable.”

“Oh, good.”

She pauses and twirls her pen between her fingers, “Actually, Bacara,” She says slowly, and he jolts as she says his name rather than his rank, “I wanted to ask you something.”

“Go ahead.”

“Are you…that is, do you have any interest in dating?” She asks as she doesn’t meet his gaze.

“I suppose,” Bacara says slowly, his mouth slightly dry, “That depends on who the other person is.”

“If it was, say, me?”

“I’d be very interested.” He replies immediately.

A small smile lifts her lips, “In that case, would you like to go on a date with me? There’s not a lot we can do on the ship, but we can still have a movie night or something.”

“Yes!” Bacara blurts, and then his face heats, “Ah…I mean, yes. I would like that.”

She giggles and Bacara’s even more smitten, “Then it’s a plan.” She pauses for a moment and sets her pen on the table, before she gets to her feet and walks over to him.

Slowly she ducks her head and presses her lips against his temple.

Her lips are warm and soft and it takes every ounce of his will power to stop from wrapping his arms around her and pulling her onto his lap and kissing her like how he’s been dreaming of for months.

“Was that okay?” She asks softly.

“Yes.” He replies hoarsely, “It’s more than okay.”

Some of the worry fades from her face, and she smiles at him warmly. And then she gently takes his hand and pulls him to his feet. “Why don’t you lay down on one of the beds here?” She offers.

Bacara frowns, “I’m not sick-”

“No, but you are tired. Maybe you’ll sleep better with me in the room with you?”

The offer is a kind one, and, really, there’s no harm in trying. So he settles on one of the beds. She dims the lights and then returns to his side, and lightly trails her fingers through his hair, “Goodnight, Bacara.”

“Hm…night.” He replies as he drifts off to sleep.

And an hour later, he stirs when he feels a gentle weight on the bed. He blinks, blearily, trying to get his bearings. And then a small smile crosses his face when he sees the Doc with her head resting on her arms, fast asleep while sitting in a chair.

Slowly, he eases her into the bed next to him, and he wraps an arm around her as she tucks her head under his chin, already mostly asleep.

Sure, he’ll have to deal with his brothers’ teasing in the morning, but it’s worth it to have her in his arms.

The Unhinged Jack x Wanderlust Conspiracy Board Explained

A few days ago I posted this silly conspiracy board I made for a slideshow night with my friends where I talked about how Ubisoft loves to deny Jack x Wanderlust and everyone seemed to like it so here’s an in-depth (and I mean in-depth) explanation of everything on it.

We start, of course, with Si’ha Nova and the Traveler, and Wanderlust wearing his dad’s cape at the beginning of Canned Heat because it’s super cute.

And you can’t talk about this ship without the moment from Majesty that perfectly mirrors the moment from Save Your Tears because genuinely why would they do this if they didn’t want people to ship these two? (Rainbow flag added for ✨flavor✨)

I also thought it was worth mentioning that the only time we ever actually hear any of these characters speak across all 14 lore playlist maps is literally Wanderlust calling out Jack’s name.

And now it’s time for the part that I like to call Ubisoft’s crusade against a monster of their own creation (because look at those last two points and tell me they didn’t do this to themselves. You can’t.)

Now in making this I couldn’t help but wonder if maybe Ubisoft isn’t being as harsh on the ship as we’ve been thinking, because “they’re such good friends” and “best friends” with a thumbs up automatically reads as very sarcastic and joking to me, like all the memes about “historians will say they were close friends.”

Then there’s the infamous in’s and out’s New Years post, but what I hadn’t picked up on until I saw this screenshot from Twitter is that the inclusion of “normalize being evil” on the in’s list is rather suspicious and that, according to Just Dance, “this was posted by Night Swan’s army.” So I feel like that’s worth mentioning, because it casts a different light on all the other things on the lists. As in including Jack Rose in the in’s list since he’s the only one she didn’t corrupt yet and she wants to do that this year? And putting stanning Jacklust on the out’s because she’s evil and doesn’t want us to have nice things? Not too sure but hey, if someone better at analyzing things wants to look into that, I’d be down to read it.

(I also think it’s worth mentioning that “worrying about getting a Megastar” is included in the out’s list when the tweet just before that one is encouraging players to get Megastar on Zero to Hero, so some more contradictions there, but that might not mean anything, given that Night Swan’s whole thing is perfection and I feel like she would definitely be in favor of worrying over getting Megastar.)

Plus there’s the pretty popular belief that they’re just pointing out how stupid of a ship name Jacklust is, but I’m personally not at all sold on this being the reason, even if Jacklust is a stupid ship name. (I told my friends the ship name during this presentation and one of them said “Really? Wanderrose was right there.”)

Lastly, I threw Night Swan in there because of the theory that Ubisoft is denying Jack x Wanderlust because the Traveler is Jack’s father. Now, I have opinions about this theory and I hope it’s not true for obvious reasons, but I feel like if it is, it’s a serious oversight on Ubisoft’s part.

Firstly, if they’re half siblings why did they recreate the move from Save Your Tears in Majesty? Seems odd to have half siblings recreate a pretty iconic romantic duet moment.

There’s also the fact that we can clearly see that Wanderlust takes physical traits from each of his parents - his mother’s blue skin and his father’s dark hair. If the Traveler is Jack’s dad, why don’t they share any physical characteristics? At the very end of the beta for Sweet Dreams (spoiler?) we see Night Swan with green eyes, unlike the yellow eyes she has in the rest of the dances we see her in. (While this could just be an older design choice, I personally interpreted this as meaning that her eyes were green before she went evil and then they turned yellow.) In all of his character artwork, Jack’s eyes are green, which I take as meaning that this is a trait he got from his mother. So I personally feel like it only makes sense for his father to have red hair (and we’ve got plenty of options to pick from with that criteria).

But hey, that’s just a theory… I don’t need to finish that part, you’re already thinking it. Thanks for reading my insane ramblings!

Wait, what’s the deal with seashepard? I grew up w a family that supported them and literally bought their merch and stuff

I was the same way! I thought they were so cool after watching Whale Wars. But unfortuantely, despite agreeing with their mission to end commercial whaling, I think their dangerous methods (not to mention their extreme anti-zoo and anti-Indigenous rhetoric) ultimately cause a lot more harm than good. Assaulting and harrassing whalers and sealers, many of whom rely on hunting to feed their families, isn't going to inspire any change. I've been told by folks that have had interactions with Sea Shepherd members that they have a reputation for alienating the communities they enter and being rude and aggressive to both locals and other anti-whaling organizations.

Captain Paul Watson founded Sea Shepherd in 1977 after leaving Greenpeace for disapproving of his "direct action" approaches. In 1986, Watson lead an attack on unoccupied whaling vessels in Iceland that got his group branded as terrorists. The act ultimately had a counterintuative effect, "turn[ing] Icelandic public opinion against the cause of saving whales" (x). In 2013, they were even labeled as "pirates" by a U.S. court for their aggressive actions toward occupied Japanese whaling ships: "When you ram ships; hurl containers of acid; drag metal-reinforced ropes in the water to damage propellers and rudders; launch smoke bombs and flares with hooks; and point high-powered lasers at other ships, you are, without a doubt, a pirate, no matter how high-minded you believe your purpose to be" (x). Sea Shepherd actually removed Watson in 2022 in an attempt to separate itself from his more radical tactics (and outstanding arrest warrants) and go legitmate. PETA denounced this as a betrayal to the animal rights movement.

Watson started his own organization (yet again), and Sea Shepherd is now lead by real estate mogul Pritam Singh. But I still hesitate to support them. In their bid to gain custody of Wikie and Keijo, they make several alarming statements, claiming that Nova Scotia is too cold for them since all they know is warm Mediterranean water (neglecting the fact that their habitat is chilled, something that can't be done in a pen) and that relocating to a sea pen in France will somehow be less stressful than moving to another pool. Wikie and Keijo were both born in the Marineland tanks. Even if we believe that a pen will be more beneficial to their welfare in the long run, it's downright foolish to claim that a pen is the "least stressful option." No one on their team has remotely any experience in captive cetacean husbandry, so they plan to continue employing Marineland trainers. Maybe don't accuse a group of animal abuse and then ask them to come work for you?

Probably an unpopular opinion, but I’m kind of glad Noa and Mae didn’t get together in Kingdom.

My reasoning is it’s unrealistic that humans and apes in the PoTA universe could only ever be enemies or lovers and nothing in between. No, I’m not against human x ape shipping but there needs to be more variety here.

What about humans and apes just being friends and playfully teasing each other like best friends do?

Or apes having humans as siblings or one of them adopting the other as their child (why is Will adopting Caesar or Maurice adopting Nova the only example of this?)?

Or humans and apes not trusting each other but having mutual respect for the other and both wanting peace? (Which seemed to be what was happening with Noa and Mae in the end but still!)

What about humans and apes having to put up with each other as a means of survival?

What about humans and apes having some conflicts over shared food and water sources but coming to a peaceful agreement?

What about humans and apes traveling together as a group?

Or ape children playing with human children as friends?

The original PoTA movies had humans keeping apes as pets before decades later apes keeping humans as pets or experiments. Could we explore something like that? What would have happened if an ape gained intelligence and their entire dynamic with their human caretaker changed?

Again, I’m not saying don’t ship Noa and Mae or other human and ape characters together, I just don’t think human and ape relationships should be limited to just enemies or lovers-those two relationship choices/dynamics get kind of boring and predictable after a while and, at least what I have seen in the movies, often do not allow breathing room for anything in between.

Talk Too Much

He could be defined as a… chatterbox. Someone who talks… on and on and on… it definitely could be seen as annoying, but to you? No way.

You loved hearing that man talk. It brought a sense of tranquility to you. From talking about the differences in droids and ships to simple astronomy — how stars can collapse and become novas.

And Tech? Oh, how he loved to talk with you! You were one of the few who could actually keep up with what he was saying. Before meeting you, he’d keep his words concise so that any one of his brothers could understand him, and normally he wouldn’t be able to talk about what interested him to his brothers because at some point their minds would wander away. (Except for maybe Echo and Omega).

Now that you were a part of his life, it’s like everything he’d been wanting to say is finally being spoken. And comprehended! That’s the best quality about you for him. You care to understand what he’s talking about, asking questions and putting your own opinions in and even correcting him!

Never in his life would he find being corrected a turn on. It is now.

And in the back of his constantly thinking mind, he wondered if you too would grow bored of his voice and his wonder. He hoped not. That would quite literally be the death of him.

Perhaps you already had and have been playing an act? Pretending to be interested in what he was saying? If you were, you were an incredible actress.

No, that couldn’t be possible… could it? An… experiment would be able to give him the answer.

While Tech enjoyed the occasional experiment, he wasn’t so sure about this one. What if he finds out what he doesn’t want to believe is true? His too curious mind drives him forward, no matter the result.

“The biggest difference between the TIE fighters and the first order SF TIE fighters are—,” he stopped himself, looking at you and seeing your eyes, waiting for him to continue, “well, I’m sure you already know this.”

It was strange for Tech to suddenly stop talking, but you did know the difference. “Yes, I do, but—,”

“Apologies for over explaining. If you’ll excuse me, I have some ship repairs still to do.”

He left the bar and you watched him leave with confusion. He’d never done anything like that before, so what was up?

Over the course of the next few rotations, Tech has been slowly limiting his time speaking with you. Stopping himself just before he got too invested in the conversation and leaving to work on the ship or head into town for rations. He also started interrupting you more which was strange.

It was beginning to piss you off.

You wanted to know why he was being such a jerk, but you were also stubborn. You started avoiding Tech, refusing to be interrupted or have the conversation be cut short with some stupid excuse.

You weren’t subtle about it either, not that you really could be. You lived in Cid’s parlor which they frequented very often because they work for her. You’d talk more with his brothers instead, refusing eye contact if Tech was with them.

He noticed your change in attitude and it definitely hurt more than he expected. You didn’t even glance at him while he couldn’t take his eyes off you. He noticed that your smile would fade when he joined the conversation or completely disappear when he got a minute alone with you.

This situation made everything tense and uncomfortable. Even for Wrecker, who’s usually pretty good at lifting the mood. Everyone grew a little worried about the two of you.

While working on his holopad, giving instruction to Echo, the former reg clone asked, “So… what’s been going on with you and YN?”

Tech’s eyes peered over the holopad quickly, seeing Echo’s quizzical expression. “I believe she’s no longer enthusiastic to talk with me.”

“Why’s that?”

“Judging on her behavior of avoiding me, I can only guess that she thinks I’m boring.”

Echo sat up and looked up at the intelligent man. “Seriously? You ‘guess’?”

“Well, I did a small experiment where I tried to limit myself to see if she was pretending to be interested.”

The look on Echo’s face made Tech feel… embarrassed. Another first.

“Go apologize. Right now.”

“What?”

Echo stood up and grabbed the holopad from Tech, “You’re honestly so dumb for someone with enhanced intelligence. Apologize and tell her the truth. YN loves talking with you, no wonder she’s in a bad mood!”

“I still don’t understand—,”

Echo shoved Tech out of the Marauder and shouted he couldn’t be let in until he’s explained everything to you.

Knowing he’s left with no choice, Tech went to find you.

You were sat at the bar, chatting idly with Omega and Hunter.

“I don’t get why he would stop talking to me… I don’t think I said something wrong, did I?”

Omega frowned, “No, I’m sure he’s just…” Omega looked to Hunter for help, not sure how to explain her brother to you.

“He’s very smart, but he is still human. He makes mistakes, rarely, but they happen.” Hunter offered you a kind smile and you sighed, deciding that their words were the best hope you had.

You felt a presence behind you and you looked back to see Tech walking towards you. Hunter took Omega and left the two of you alone.

“YN, I want to apologize. I’ve experimented on you without your knowledge. You’ve noticed I’ve distanced myself from you and stopped our lengthy conversations because I feared you were pretending to be interested.”

Woah. That’s a lot. You opened your mouth to speak but was cut off.

“I really enjoy your attention, not just to details of our discussions, but on me. I find your company to be special because you always soak in the knowledge I explain and you don’t seem bored of me ever. You even correct me and I never realized how admiring it is to be corrected. It means you were paying attention and to me that’s extremely important. I don’t want to lose that, I don’t want to lose you or your attention or —,”

At some point you realized you weren’t ever going to get a word in. So, you kissed him. Simple problems require simple solutions.

The kiss was meant to be short, but Tech instinctively held you close to him. Your hands cupped his face, thumbs softly touching his cheekbones.

When you pulled back to breathe, you chuckled. “You talk too much.” His eyes blinked with such innocent curiosity it made your cheeks burn. “I enjoy all that you have to say. Don’t ever stop, Tech.”

“Once again, you’ve proven me wrong.” He smiled as he kissed you once more, both of you quietly laughing in between kisses.

p.s. I love this intelligent man so much, I honestly could listen to him talk forever. This was heavily inspired by the song Talk Too Much by COIN. Me and my boyfriend have caught up to the newest episode of season 2 and agghhh 🥺 I felt so bad for him when his leg got crushed but he was so badass!

you've got it. here are the lead romances (for non-lead ones you'll have to remind me it's been a hot minute since I read these books)

8. Kiko. She is so cute and kind and hot and you're telling me there are NO MEN IN THIS WORLD who would be willing to look past the unfortunate fact that she's an escort droid so she has to settle for the dude who insists on reminding her she's a fake program who has no right to love??? Pls. Still not as horrible as many other ships but I expected better from MM.

7. Nova/Adrian. I legit don't remember anything about them, I didn't have any opinions on them (except vaguely reminding me of a not very well developed Kaider).

6. Serilda/Gild. Loved the baby and marriage drama and the eviiilllll fairyyy kingggggg and the no instalove, but they def needed more time together in book 2 for the emotions and gravity to stick. Because my fav dynamic in those books is still Serilda and Erlking whoops (not in a shippy way just in general but I feel like I should NOT be rooting for Serilda to stay in her horrible marriage for my entertainment)

5. Cath/Jest. They are so so so cute. Court jester/fine lady romances are an untapped gold mine as far as I am concerned. Like, a brave funny hot clown is messing around with the king's intended behind his back???? GALAXY BRAIN romance concept fr.

4. Wolflet. It's about the fiery, impulsive gun girl falling for the cute, shy monster guy. AND bonus points for actually making him a monster guy instead of a sexy monster guy.

3. Kaider. Absolutely LOVELY, I'm still surprised how MM managed to make Kai annoying and entitled in his continuous pursuit of Cinder even though she has rejected him several times while still making sense and not being bad for their relationship. Their drama is also at the minimum considering they spend most of the books separated, so they're a great leading couple.

2. Cresswell. I LOVE how their worst parts are what the relationship leads with, and then they build from the ground up. I love how much they BOTH change and grow as people. They were my favs for years before being usurped by my current favs.

Jacinter. The YEARNING the TENSION the DRAMA the CHILDHOOD FRIENDS GROWING UP IN A FUCKED UP ROYAL COURT the PRINCESS AND HER GUARD the PAIN AND SUFFERING and the HAPPY ENDING...... Absolutely delicious.

Thomas John Chew the fashion victim of USS Constitution and USS Chesapeake

Thomas John Chew sailed as purser on the USS Constitution from 1 June 1812 to 26 September 1812. He was on board when the ship captured HMS Guerriere on 19 August 1812 and was awarded a Congressional Silver Medal for his actions and service and shared with the crew $50,000 in prize money. After acting as purser of the Boston Navy Yard for a time, he transferred to USS Chesapeake. He was on board that vessel during the battle against the HMS Shannon on June 1, 1813. According to some accounts, Chew supported the mortally wounded Captain James Lawrence as he uttered his famous last command: "Don't give up the ship." Chew was taken to Halifax, Nova Scotia as a Prisoner of War after the battle, but was quickly exchanged. We went on to serve as purser on board several other US Navy ships as well as for the New York Navy Yard. He resigned from the Navy on March 12, 1821. He died in 1846.

The purser was the ship's commercial agent, purser, grocer and storekeeper all in one. His duties, which required a high degree of organisation and business acumen, included keeping the ship's pay and muster rolls and paying the officers and crews.

He was responsible for procuring and issuing provisions to the crew. In addition, the purser ran a ship's shop where the men could buy clothing, hygiene articles, utensils, knives, ribbons, needles, thread, mustard, chocolate, coffee, tea, sugar and tobacco. In order to keep track of everything, the purser had to keep detailed accounts in accordance with naval regulations. During a battle, the purser was stationed in the cockpit to help the surgeon dress the wounded. He received $40.00 per month and two rations per day.

But it was not only the pay of the purser that was enticing, but also the opportunity to make large profits by selling clothing and supplies to the crew at sea. Since there was no competition and the 450 men and boys aboard a frigate represented a steady market, there was room for extraordinary profits.

Because he earned so well, he could of course dress in the latest and best fashions from Europe. Underneath he wore the finest trousers, red suspenders and shirts and even a man's corset or stay. Men's stays were also used in the army, for hunting, and for strenuous exercise. In the opinion of the fashion magazine of the time, this gave him an aristocratic look, and that was what he was after. Even though he continued to serve in the Navy, he was still a wealthy gentleman and he wanted to show that through his appearance.

Okay so to keep the origin story short as possible, you dad is a fucking liar!

Or well so you thought. Growing up he told you stories about being part of the Nova Corp an intergalactic space military. But growing up you realised it was just a bunch of crap and your dad is actually a high school janitor and as an added bonus had a drinking problem.

But were you bitter about it?….. Yes, yes you were, mostly cause he was the janitor at the school you went to and you got teased by some of the other kids for it.

So after having to drag your drunk father on to a couch in the garage one to many times to sober up, you had finally had enough and stormed in to the garage to yell at him but he was gone leaving a huge hole in the wall. So you grab your skateboard to go look for him. But while doing so you fall and hit your head ending up in the hospital.

One night in the hospital you get visited by a raccoon with anger problems and a cool green lady with a sword, who gave you a helmet they said belonged to your father who had from what they told you died in battle.

By putting on the helmet you gained a suit and cool powers, the green lady named Gamora and Rocket gave you a quick lesson in how to work your powers before they left on their space ship again, leaving behind a young superhero.

You went on to start helping out all over the place under the name Nova. Which is when you’d first cross paths with Spider-Man. While Spider-Man was chasing a getaway car of criminals who had robbed a bank.

Spider-Man had been hot on their trail when suddenly a blue blur quickly passed him like a rocket. He saw someone with a helmet that in his opinion looked like a bucket fly in front of the car.

You took the car by the front and pressed against it using as much force as possible to bring it to a complete stop.

”Hey, that was my save” Spider-Man complained as you had left the criminals to the police cars that now surrounded them. ”Actually do the save next time then” you said sassily and flew away. This would become a thing between the two of you to compete about who was the better hero.

You even gave each-other nicknames, you call him web-head and he calls you bucket-head.

Shortly after one day when you arrived home from school you were shocked to see THE Tony Stark having coffee with your mom and younger sister. He turned to you when you walked in and said ”Oh look, the boy of the hour has arrived”. ”What the fuck?” you whispered to yourself.

He then went on to explain that has his eye on you so that maybe one day you can join the Avengers or what’s left of it at least. He told you to just keep doing what you’re doing and unless he says otherwise. To which you just said ”Yes, sir” and continued with your business.

When you returned to school people were excitedly talking about both Spider-Man and Nova, and were picking sides of who they thought were the coolest.

You went up to your friend Mj and the two of you went about your day. During lunch you met up with you sort of friends Peter and Ned and the four of you sat and talked about the new heroes of the city.

You and Peter ended up arguing about who was better between Spider-Man and Nova. With you representing team Nova and him team Spidey.

Romantic or platonic—these two are to remain together at all times.

I know they’re technically canon, but I marked that box anyway because Tailgate is an unnecessary third wheel who messes up the balance.

Others have done an amazing job of articulating why Cywhirl is so compelling, but one of the biggest things that stands out to me personally is that, despite their discomfort with their own and others’ emotions, they’re able to cut to the heart of matters faster and better than most couples learn to do in a lifetime, and with way less emotional turmoil.

How do I explain this…

It’s the difference between an awkward dance and a quick duel.

(It would make more sense if I could show you the metaphor as it plays out in my head.)

No no please I desperately want to hear your Bode opinions, I crave to know if anyone else has the same geek kind I do

Oh my stars Anon I got this ask and I am VERY pleased by it but also like. prepare for me to have an objectively wrong opinion here. It's not the, generally speaking, correct one, but it's just the one I have

Anyways I'm gonna put this under the cut because it's gonna get long and spoiler-ful but! Here are two posts that I think have amazing takes on the situation as well!

Let's start at the very beginning. It took me forever to actually get this game, and due to that fact and my lack of self control, I found out quite a few spoilers about the game. (not everything, but a lot of stuff.) This included Bode's betrayal

At first I was like, oh this random guy is gonna betray me! Guess I gotta prepare to be super ticked off for a little while since I always handle betrayal arcs in fiction like an adult (that's a lie. I do not handle betrayals in fiction well At All. Still getting over the Billy Russo situation in The Punisher and don't even get me started on season one of AOS-- both of which I also saw coming. I digress, but that was relevant)

But then. I started playing Coruscant. And Bode showed up

Logically, I was like "oh random dude who's gonna betray me-- better not get attached."

About ten or fifteen minutes later he was my (or Cal's, technically) new best friend. As you can see, it went really well (he was befriending BD too, okay???)

Okay rabbit trails aside-- I really, really liked Bode as a character. So much so that I kept forgetting that he was going to betray me, and that I shouldn't get too attached. I liked his ridiculous quips and his loyalty to Cal and the fact he kept calling him "brother" and his obvious and fierce love for his daughter and how much he shipped Merrical

So when he did turn evil... it hurt. A lot

Like I said, I don't handle these things well. And in a video game-- where I tend to project onto/pretend that I am the character-- it was just as bad, if not worse

And yet, despite all of that, despite everything he did to Cal and the crew, despite him killing Master Cordova and causing so many terrible things to happen. I couldn't really bring myself to hate him

For two reasons. Number one, if I let myself go down the road of actively hating a character like that, it will not go well. I speak from experience

And number two, Bode seemed to regret what he did. That scene right before the second Merrical kiss, on Jedha? He looked like he wanted to tell Cal, but (in his mind) knew he couldn't because he had to protect Kata above all else

On Nova Garon he called Cal his best friend, and he sounded so sad, like he knew he'd destroyed the relationship beyond repair

(we ain't touching on Bode on Tanalorr. Everything he did there was objectively terrible)

The point is... I get that Bode is supposed to be a bad guy, but I'm never gonna see him that way. I'm gonna see him as consumed by his own fear, so terrified at the idea of losing his family again (after all, the Jedi Order was his family first. Losing them, and then his wife? That's just trauma on top of trauma) that he will do LITERALLY anything and justify it with the fact that he's doing it for Kata

He's just so AFRAID. And fear leads to anger (which is a secondary emotion, as my mom likes to say. Anger never comes from nothing), which leads to the Dark side

And while there's part of me that still thinks that he was being an idiot about this whole situation (sir Tanalorr is a whole hecking planet?? Guarded by a freaking impassable nebula?? That's why you're here in the first place) the other part of me knows that when you're guided by that much fear, you're not thinking clearly

So yes, Bode did terrible things-- he killed Master Cordova. Indirectly, he caused Cere's death (which, unless I'm remembering wrong, which is totally possible, I don't think Cal blamed him for that? He seemed to blame Denvik-- but again, I could be wrong). He manipulated Cal and endangered his daughter with his rage on Tanalorr and nearly killed both Merrin and Cal and KRIFFING HIT MY BELOVED BD 1

But when I look at his motives? At first, I forgive him, because that's what I'm called to do. And at the point where he reaches no return, I just pity him

And honestly I think in the end that's where Cal ended up too? Like, he was obviously angry and hurt and going through a lot, but he did want to give him a second chance. And I think if Bode hadn't be so focused on what could happen and how he could possibly lose more family, he could have accepted that

But he didn't. Instead, he committed atrocities, and I do condemn what he did and how he handled the situation. It was wrong. But I'll always be more inclined to imagine the world where he did trust Cal, and got a second chance

But yeah, there are some of my extensive thoughts on Bode Akuna! There are a few more small things, that I may post about in the future-- but I'd LOVE to hear what your take on him is, Anon! Even if we disagree, I'm still very curious. Thank you very much for the ask, if you got this far, I appreciate you reading!

(TL;DR-- Bode Akuna did so many bad things but I do think he regretted them, no matter how much he justified them in his mind and to others. And I personally am forgiving him and imagining worlds where he made the right choice)

I watched Kim Possible as a kid and liked it back then. But as an adult, I dont really remember something too compeling about it. What do you think makes it special and worth peoples time besides nostalgia? Sorry if the ask sounds combatative, just intereted

a good question!

i'm not sure i have too many memories of it as a kid. i know i was in it for nicole sullivan cuz i was a mira nova fan. and then...it stuck? nothing stood out to me as a kid too much, but then when season 4 came around (i was out of high school by then) i remember being excited. so something about it must have stuck with me as....just good fun, since i was so invested in the 4th season being a thing. then when the season actually aired, some episodes i found annoying and cheesy. not Graduation though, that was amazing. to be clear, i was only into kim/ron as a ship at the time and not much really.

so....as a teen, i have no idea really. can't put my finger on it other than it was good clean fun? as an adult... i binged the show and i started out loving kim/ron as a perfect friends to romance pairing. great healthy example of that. then i saw that drakgo was the popular ship and headed that route.

but in terms of depth to the show? you kind of have to create your own. i think it's why i find the show easy to write for because it's a very blank slate. you have good established canon with consistent continuity, plenty of tiny hints at deeper possibilities... but pretty much the lore is all up to the fans. very little actually onscreen, compared to other shows. so it's fun in that way.

as a show though it's just....good clean fun. a girl's version of the a-team perhaps? hits all the 00's teen marks. it's definitely not a show written for adults to enjoy, definitely written for older kids/teens. relatable to that age i guess, but specifically of that generation.

i suppose.... okay well, honestly. compelling factors?

shego is hot. a certain crowd are gonna go for that. kim too but she's a minor so i don't automatically think of that.

now ron... ron is a compelling character. he's the underdog who gets the girl in the end. i think many people would identify with ron? a lot of the stereotypes i think are contrived by fandom, but the show is easily interpreted that way... a dork, a loser, no-skills low-grades nobody, who gets the girl in the end. so that i can see as a compelling factor.

but overall i think it's just fun. like i said a few times before. good clean fun. i liken it to a show like Recess. fun characters, fun stories, but not much else to it besides good clean fun. although i'd argue Recess had more depth lol.

guess i'm saying it's not that compelling? haha. i think the superfans choose to like it, like me. for nostalgia mostly. and community.

would be curious to hear @sharperthewriter's opinion on this.

Opinion on terra nova crew pls! Love them sfm 😭 esp your opinion on meares would be cool to know! It seems most of the fandom hates him but I have a soft spot I have to admit :'D

i don't think people hate meares!!! like... idk maybe scholars who blame him for Scott's death.... but we are not scholars On Here even if maybe we're scholars IRL if you know what i mean 😂 i think bill nighy's portrayal in LPOE has done a lot of heavy lifting to endear people to him, certainly i think his epic monologue is one of the highlights of that godforsaken series... also he leaned SO hard into the script shipping oates/meares and for that i am grateful... look at that EYE CONTACT

and in terms of the real guy he is also pretty cool.. the Mystery Man of the expedition... i read a novel recently called Minds of Winter that he features heavily in as kind of a shadowy james bond international superspy type mentor figure for one of the main characters, which i thought was an excellent portrayal. also i read in griff's diary that he and birdie and oates used to speak hindustani to each other in the hut which i thought was such a cool tidbit!

IN TERMS OF OTHER CREW.. i cannot possibly rank them, i'm not very good at having a Main Bias !!!!! 😭 at a push my top 5 are probably like. deb silas pennell cherry atch ... but really every guy gets a turn in the Brain Rotation Station.... (yes even teddy) and lately i've been really loving Priestley, reading about him on nimrod & have to line up his northern party book next, he's such a sweetheart!

I was thinking on a way to share my thoughts on 5ds without ranting too much about it, but also thinking on a way to use the prompts for other yugioh shows, so here's my attempt number 1:

1. Favorite character over all.

Carly Nagisa. Want me a girlfriend like her.

2. Favorite male character.

Jack Atlas and Bruno. I really wanted to see them interacting more, they're pretty funny.

3. Favorite female character.

CARLY NAGISA OF COURSE.

4. The character you dislike the most.

Crow, but his deck is pretty I guess.

5. A character that looked annoying at first but turned out to be likeable.

Jaeger lol! I like the monkey sounds he makes.

6. Which character looked promising but didn't make it through?

Izayoi Aki 😢 she was the shit and they should have appreciated her more.

7. In your opinion, does the protagonist hold the show?

Objectively he does, Yusei is decent as character himself but it's a little too much on how he has to handle EVERYTHING. But that's the curse of the shonen protagonist I guess.

8. Favorite ship.

Scoopshipping, Omenshipping and Toolshipping.

9. Duelist/deck you felt more interesting.

Aki's and Carly's. Aki's strategy were so fun and interesting to watch.

10. The duel you had more fun watching.

Jack vs Carly for sure, the Fortune Ladies ready to kick Jack's ass and Jack confession were brilliant.

11. Favorite monster card.

Silly boi Dark Resonator.

12. Favorite dragon card.

My ass to Red Nova Dragon.

13. 5ds only. Favorite D-Wheel design.
