responding to this with my shitty redaction because i'm not comfortable posting obvious bait with people's names in them (particularly dead names) but i just wanted to point out the ways in which this ask is prototypical bait written to purposefully generate drama or controversy (idk if this is in a kiwifarms trolling with right wing motives sense or an 'i love drama' person) by trying to appeal to online leftist culture/the fear of being 'problematic'. i see ppl fall for this constantly + i need people to start learning to recognize the signs instead of either engaging or using this as evidence that leftists are stupid/petty/hypocritical (which many of us are, but in much less amusing ways, unfortunately)

the implication that there is a single founder of the "neurodiversity movement" + that evoking this movement at all (which i don't do + i think it's actually pretty evident that my politics are distinct from the much more bioessentialist politics of those who prefer that term, which is part of what led me to conclude that this is a copypasta) is supporting the founder. tracing a broad social concept to a single individual, then disparaging that individual as morally unsound (by evoking other explosive, petty pieces of discourse, like baeddalism + transandrophobia) in order to provoke doubt, fear or anger. demonstrates a hope that leftists will flinch away from anything associated with anyone 'problematic' without applying any critical thinking.

misrepresenting complex events (or fabricating them entirely- idk if these things happened + i simply couldn't care enough to find out) in a way that hits the pressure points of performative activism (she's being mean to an autistic person! other people of color agree with me! this other person is anti physically disabled people!) while also betraying reactionary opinions through language use/implications (claiming to care about 'transandrophobia' yet deadnaming someone? claiming to care about specific events at specific autism conferences but using terms like "severely autistic"? saying you have spoken to "Blacks, Asians, Hispanics, American Indians" lmao did you type this out based on census checkboxes from the 70s?). the author of this ask is clearly not a member of the activist communities they claim to be from because they accidentally slip into the speech conventions + opinions of a kiwifarms/4chan loser who does a lot of hatereading. this one did a good job of hitting the bingo card of divisive intracommunity issues rn- great research skills, bud! put them to better use <3

reframing reactionary beliefs using leftist concepts. this works because many of us do not have a foundational politic outside of "well, i want to be good, so I'm going to support the things that other people i trust say are good". which doesn't make you bad (there is no good or bad! learn this now + quick, if you really want to play a part in building a better world) but it makes you easy to manipulate + unlikely to be capable of meaningful change. notice that the claims this ask is asserting are, at their core, "people make up microaggressions to cause problems when really they could easily suck it up" + "people fake disabilities and being trans for attention". these are reactionary concerns, no matter how artfully they are dressed in social justice language. kiwifarms in particular was very, very good at this- they loved finding the people they stalked to be racist, homophobic, ableist, etc, not because they thought those things were wrong (it was their hobby to be these things!) but because they delighted in identifying hypocrisy, stirring up drama, + destroying people's reputations.

this is hard to explain bcuz i blacked out the names, but if you have a passing familiarity with fascist/reactionary online spaces, particularly the history of kiwifarms, you will know that reactionaries have their own 'pet leftists', just like we have our 'pet fascists' (shapiro, alex jones, tucker carlson, etc). that is, ppl they obsessively follow, harass, + scrutinize + come to believe are representative of everything that we believe. these ppl are rarely ppl who are actually prominent in our online spaces but online reactionaries often believe we are just as obsessed with these people as they are, but as unquestioned paragons of virtue + brilliance. namedropping these ppl is often an accidental tip of the hat, particularly when the ppl aren't on tumblr, haven't been a topic of community discussion for quite some time, or run in a different circle than us (reactionaries don't understand that there are actually thousands of leftist social groups which have very little overlap with some others- pronouns in bio does not mean someone knows or cares about contrapoints, for instance)

tl;dr this ask is a fantastic example of the rhetorical features bait that someone might actually take seriously.

that being said, let me get serious for the people on here that are actually normal. for those that don't know by now, this anon seems to be referencing this post about cf, which talks about overwolf (the company that owns curseforge) donating to the IDF. But I also found this tweet by OOP made after that post that explains they have since received DMs from Overwolf stating that they have shifted their relief efforts to aiding victims that have lost their homes from the Hamas terrorist attacks exclusively and do not fund the IDF. this is a much better cause as the victims of terrorism definitely deserve to be helped, and it makes sense they would do this as an Israeli company. The DMs also clarify that it is donation based and nothing uploaded to cf (cc/mods) contributes to this effort whatsoever. As well as Overwolf/Curseforge revenue in general. So simply using curseforge does not mean that you fund or endorse genocide. OOP calls their new efforts commendable in that tweet but I am still looking into and keeping an eye on this matter since, as we know, more information could come out later that contradicts this. And since I have been away im still catching up on everything that has been posted relating to cf.

here are the pics for those that may not have Twitter. do I still support a boycott for those that want to? oh, absolutely. I know that many will still want to boycott regardless, and I'll be working to add alt links to my cc uploads as soon as possible (the ones that don't already have them) for those that don't want to use it. However, everyone I've seen wanting to boycott seems to want to do it because a) they believe overwolf is funding the IDF (apparently is not true) b) they believe having their uploads on cf or downloading from there will fund the IDF (apparently is not true) or c) overwolf itself is an Israeli company (is definitely true). therefore based on the new info we now have some may decide not to boycott after all or will still do so, it is a personal decision. will I be deleting my account there? for now, no.

to be completely honest, I'm in a really bad place financially right now, and while it isn't much, the little bit I get from cf downloads has been exclusively going towards my meds and dr appointment bills. I don't have the option right now to turn down the small amount of added income when I am currently living day to day, especially with the updated knowledge that simply having cc uploaded there does not contribute to their donation efforts in any way. I do not paywall my cc and never will and I do not ask for donations myself, so my options are somewhat limited. although I do not make cc with the aim of getting paid, I ultimately wouldn't be able to justify the sheer amount of time I spend on it if it wasn't helping me with my medical bills currently, as I am already caregiving with the majority of my time. also, for the record so there is no confusion on my personal views, I fully support the freedom of Palestine and condemn genocide first and foremost, as well as terrorism and antisemitism. The current situation in Gaza is abhorrent and I encourage all my followers to not only reblog posts, but educate yourselves on the situation and bring it irl as you are able. Speak with the people you love as well as those you are acquainted with and bring this to this to their attention (if you feel safe to). Attend protests if you can. If you cannot, make the calls and emails to your representatives, sign petitions, and donate as you are able. I have been seeing that even spreading Palestinian culture among your loved ones and peers is helpful. So even if you are in a bad place mentally, that may be an option to spread the positive message of the Palestinian people in your everyday life. In addition, be kind. To others and yourself. Try to see the full damn picture instead of a snapshot. What someone posts on tumblr of all places does not reflect an entire person's being, or their efforts, or their heart. Yelling your head off on this dying website does not equal activism, and running your mental health into the ground taking on the weight of the world doesn't give you any more control over the issues we face- I learned that the hard fucking way, believe me. no, i fully understand what you're saying and where you're coming from. over the last like. idk year and a half? ive been pretty vocal about my disappointment, distaste, and disagreement with a multitude of the choices she's made lately. i 100% agree that her silence on the subject of palestinian genocide (as well as many other human rights/social causes) is at best a sign of apathy and at worst a sign of support. especially when miss americana was all about her wanting to be more outspoken and be an activist. that all feels so incredibly performative now -- and has for a while. a lot of things that she's said and done since midnights, which is when i became more active in the tumblr swiftie community, have left a bad taste in my mouth for her as a person.

there have been a few times on this website where i’m torn between making a post about an actively discussed issue while people’s opinions are still forming on it, and waiting a few months to let the information marinate and then talking about it when people are done frothing at the mouths. but the decision has been called: you all have HORRIBLE takes on oceangate. 

in my opinion i think the large swarth of discussion and criticism levied against oceangate and the people lost in the tragedy are falling into the same pit that we are attempting to criticize. which i’m enabling here and i apologize but: the fixation on oceangate, and rather the callousness people are treating the deaths of the billionaires, isn’t the anticapitalist critique you think it is. because this isn’t about the billionaires (not to mention that to my understanding they were not... all billionaires on the vessel) themselves; it’s about the attention their status levied, and it’s about the structure of the ship itself and why it fucking failed. if you’re critiquing the capitalism of the situation, you’re talking about the framework of the media spotlight it’s been put under (why is oceangate discussed more than the boat of refugees, should these events be comparable, should we be romanticizing these deaths) and the lack of precision that the constructor of the ship put into the ship-- because it was an act out of profit. while it’s tempting and in all honesty partially justified to take this as a “fuck the billionaires, i hope their next ship sinks too”, it objectively was not the billionaire who made the ship sink, and it could have been ANYONE-- an example being a researcher, or a historian, or someone malinformed by the corporation that made the ship-- on that ship. would it have garnered the same media attention, and would we actually be able to criticize the right things? who knows. 

this could be a hasty or controversial opinion of my own, and i recognize that. but i think it’s important to separate the emotional aspects of anticapitalist critique with the rational aspects-- neither are bad, neither should be vilified. activism needs initial outrage; i apologize if this deprives you of that. you are right to be outraged at how billionaires are able to do such things. and personally, as a second generation child of immigrants, there are no words for the rage i feel at how little attention internationally is being given to the boat of migrants compared to this stupid fucking billionaire (which, too, can be dissected rationally, but an example of the emotional component). but if you’re going to meaningfully learn a single damn thing from this circumstance, and what this means for the state of technology right now-- you’re going to want to drop this performative callousness and actually treat this like a tragedy, which it is.

Once the online activism devolves into whataboutism over literal terrorist acts or downright blatant antisemitism, I get pissed off. I am seeing this from a lot of the younger generation and also feel like many of them are sort of transferring a lot of the very US/western based sociopolitical problems onto this conflict, specifically calling the people of Israel “colonizers” as if the Jews haven’t been native to that land since biblical times and have just as much, if not more, right to be there than anyone, acting as if they are just western “bad whites” (ignoring that in the US especially, the concept of “white” is very very different then how it is seen in other parts of the world) coming in to oppress. They are boiling down a decades long COMPLEX situation where there currently are NO winners and both sides have done lots of wrong, into a lot of buzzwords and performative activism and very black and white thinking and seeing it fall more and more into overt antisemitism is scary. I wish at the very least, no matter what side you fall on politically, that everyone could have come together to denounce wholly that terrorist like tactics that we’ve seen are an affront to humankind and won’t be supported and it’s ok, and necessary, to denounce them. the backlash against noah is nonsensical; online activists are jumping the gun and twisting noah’s words at best, or conflating palestinans with hamas at worst. whoever wrote the post said “we” (via their insta stories) so it sounds like a group of jewish students, including noah, came together to write the post after seeing the antisemitism and the comments about the deceased young woman. noah is the one with clout, so to speak, so he’s obviously the one to post it and get the word out there. they are young students, they’re not geopolitical analysts, and they’re surely upset and shaken; so yes, the post isn’t perfect but it wasn’t wrong. hamas should be condemned, even if people think it’s what israel deserved.

As someone who works in activism and advocacy, let me shed some light on the humanitarian crisis in Palestine and lay it out in a way that will make it digestible for you. If you choose to not read any of this, it's okay to say you don't care, but don't be a wuss and hide behind anonymity to do it because I (along with many others) don't want to be associated with people like that.

The main point here is transparency and avoiding hidden action. There is zero room for secrecy when it comes to this genocide and standing in solidarity to those who are being wiped out. The people of Palestine are begging for visibility and it's gotten to the point where U.S. citizens are resorting to extreme measures, including self-immolation (or setting themselves on fire, in layman's terms).

It is extremely valid to criticize artists or really any person who claims to be an activist (whether it's through messages they send through their songs, personal statements they've made on their profiles about being allies to people of color, and the band's brand as a whole, which are all things that Greta Van Fleet have done) but only speak out on humanitarian issues when pressured or when it directly affects them (Again, both are things that Greta Van Fleet has done).

This is the truth and despite aligning with the ideals of peace, love, and unity, no one (including the band itself) wants to take concrete action to support those values. It's more than likely that those who dismiss public action from their favorite artists as ineffective or suggest that support is being provided privately have not taken any tangible steps to support Palestine. Yes I am talking about the majority of the crowd chanting, "Theyre probably doing things in real life", "Posting isn't going to do anything", and "They're probably doing things behind closed doors".

I also saw criticism on here regarding the criticism for Greta Van Fleet and the support for Zionist artists. It is important to note and clarify that holding an artist accountable, having differing opinions on an artist's character than the rest of the herd, or criticizing an artist's actions does not equal a boycott.

Additionally, people who genuinely care about the Palestinian cause are not supporting artists who merely preach peace, love, and unity and/or claim to be a feminist or any sort of humanitarian in any form but have not demonstrated tangible support for Palestine. They are also certainly not supporting artists who are known Zionists. There is plenty of music and artists out there to listen to (especially in the rock genre) who have been openly supportive to the Palestinian causes and those similar to it that you don't have to listen to Zionist artists to have good music.

Furthermore, when it comes to Greta Van Fleet it is fine to separate the art from the artist. It's also fine to not do so, but their hypocritical actions are not something that we will continue to ignore. While there are several performative activists here, that is not the case for everyone. It is not fair that those doing tangible work both on and offline are being overshadowed and lumped with those doing it to avoid being 'cancelled' and are unwilling to be open about their blatant indifference to this humanitarian crisis (just like those who hide on this anonymous page and spew falsities about those speaking out are doing).

Artists engaging in insincere gestures or support or maintaining false images to maintain popularity and financial gains without actively supporting the causes they claim to is not a new situation. It is just something that has not ever been put as openly on blast as it is now thanks to social media, especially in light of recent events. This behavior from them mirrors that of their audience, which often blatantly overlooks their problematic behavior because of them being attractive (this was evident through all of SpeakupGVF).

There have been several actions from GVF (their open support for nfts, their lack of ticketmaster control despite being in the anti-ticketmaster documentary, having an entire social media platform based on a song condemning social media, etc. all things that artists who actually care about these issues have either not done or have openly spoken out against or have taken action against) that prove that, like many other artists, prioritizes relevancy and financial gain over genuine activism.

People who choose to remain ignorant of these facts are making a conscious decision to do so at this point and if you're choosing to do so, at least do not do so anonymously because at least be loud and wrong if you're going to be that wrong.”

Forbes is under fire from women’s rights advocates and online commentators after having a male who recently began identifying as a “girl” speak at their Power Women’s Summit, an annual event highlighting female leaders in business and activism.

Dylan Mulvaney, a transgender TikToker who has risen to notoriety for his “days of girlhood” series, spoke on “ushering in a new era of influence” at the Summit, which was held in New York City on September 15.

The announcement of Mulvaney’s appearance was posted to the official Forbes twitter the following day and attracted overwhelmingly negative attention from feminists and gender critical activists who pointed out that Mulvaney has identified as a “woman” for less than a year.

“So this is actually a feminine man, not a woman. Being a woman isn’t about performing sexist stereotypes, it is an innate biological reality,” Twitter user Frederich wrote in response to the Forbes announcement. As of this article’s writing, the tweet has under 900 ‘likes’ compared to over 2,800 overwhelmingly negative replies.

Even transgender people critical of Mulvaney’s participation added their voice to the chorus of discontent. 

“What does Dylan know about being a woman? To Dylan, being a woman is being told how stunning and brave you are every day for chronicling your adult male “girlhood.” He’s been LARPing as a woman for a day and a half. Mulvaney’s appearance at the Summit comes just months after the TikToker reported being offered a partnership with Tampax to advertise menstruation products. The partnership allegedly came after Mulvaney’s video on his “12th day of girlhood” in which he discussed carrying tampons around to hand out in women’s bathrooms, and refers to the vagina as a “barbie pouch.”

Mulvaney’s TikToks documenting his “days of girlhood” have accumulated millions of views. In the videos, Mulvaney is often seen doing and acting in excessively “feminine” ways which are often perceived as representing harmful, sexist stereotypes. While “being a girl,” Mulvaney often attributes his womanhood to what he is wearing, his makeup, eating habits, and dramatic emotions which lead to crying and binge shopping.

During his “day 74” video, Mulvaney advocates for the normalization of his “bulge” after complaining that people at a supermarket were disturbed by the outfit he had been wearing, which had included leather shorts that clearly showed the outline of his genitals.

“I forgot that my crotch doesn’t look like other women’s crotches because mine doesn’t look like a little barbie pocket,” Mulvaney says, “… I just normalize it, and we all just normalize women having bulges sometimes, because we’re coming up on bikini season, baby, and you might see a bulge or two.”

Mulvaney has attracted a large fanbase which often rushes to his defense when he experiences criticism. One such victim of Mulvaney’s rabid fans is known on social media as Jess, a female TikToker who parodied Mulvaney’s “girlhood” series. 

Jess released a few TikToks in which she acted an exaggerated parody of Mulvaney, taking on his dramatic feminine personality while wearing pigtails and using a filter which masculinized her appearance. 

As a result of her parodies, Jess was banned from TikTok multiple times, and has experienced extreme backlash from Mulvaney’s fans. 

Earlier this year, Mulvaney’s fans attempted to have Jess fired from her job, spreading rumors she worked at Domino’s Pizza. Ajay Rochester, who hosted The Biggest Loser Australia joined in on the campaign, trying to get Domino’s attention on Twitter in an effort to have Jess terminated.

On September 13, just days before the Forbes Summit, Mulvaney made a condescending TikTok responding to Jess’ parodies, which caused his fans to flood her social media with reports and abuse.

“How sad would it be if you left this earth – God forbid – as the woman who hated trans people?” Mulvaney said in the TikTok, “That’s kind of a sucky title!”

I don't really like to post like this, since I feel like it comes off as performative and cringe, but I'm gonna do it anyways after reading something that bothered me this morning.

I am a cis white man. At the utmost height of privilege possible outside of class. I've learned that it's very important to educate ourselves of why we are privileged, but it's especially important to share that with those who might not understand. Look what's happening to Palestine. I read about the atrocities and heartbreaks every single day, while I'm at home in a comfortable enough position to just, turn this all off whenever I want. So many people close to me (family), still believe that the bombings on Palestine are completely justifiable. Yet it's not at all. A colonized people pushed into such extreme conditions must fight back, and they get treated like theyre the evil ones. I think it's important for folks like me to educate those around them about this whole situation. It's much harder to do that with some, but I'm really happy that, for example, my sister has been listening to what I've had to say.

Another reason that influenced this post, was the latest Ethel Cain posts. I saw a lot of TERFS shaming and misgendering her. I started to scroll through two of these TERF's blogs and not only do they share the literal same exact posts in their little echo chamber, but so many were filled with vile hatred towards transfolk. I don't believe those two are truly lost for good, but they're all on the wrong path. And also, I've tried to educate family members about why it's important to protect and support trans people, especially during the extremely vulnerable teenage years. Sometimes they listen, sometimes they don't. I usually can only make one or two comments. But sometimes, people start coming around.

This post is primarily dedicated to those who have some sort of privilege. I'm not saying you need to be this super active activist (I'm not!), but when people around you, that you know, start spout some nasty rhetoric. Speak up and try to educate them.

(And no I don't want any congratulations for being a good lil man. I treat my blog here to express my interests and thoughts, so don't give me some shit like I'm asking for praise)

i'm just saying at this point i'm kinna done. i got into online activism because i was disabled and could no longer engage in offline activism as well as had to recover from drug addiction. a drug addict can not hang around a community that could potentially expose them to harm. this is understandable. anyone genuine or legitimate finds this understandable.

look, i've been very very modest and humble about a lot of my activism, because that's not the point of activism. the point of activism is change. it's to help people. it's not about you, your blog, your brand, your youtube channel, your patreon, how "clever" or witty you are on the internet or how many notes you can get or how many reblogs, because the truth is the only posts that get attention are ones that are written like a tweet. i don't know how else to describe it at this point. "lol", memes, rephrasings of common internet dialogue, basic bullying and intimidation tactics, AAVE (usually fucked up), "[generic statement how white christians are to blame for any disagreement]", etc. i don't know.

having made angry posts myself (even some written with similar meme-y language), i can tell you what gets the most attention. it's that. it is literally that. if you go to someone's blog, and every post is like that, there's links to youtubes, patreons, etc, those are not really activists. those are people who realized some of their belief systems were really compatible with activism, and they want or need attention/money.

this is also why i removed my own donation links to cashapp and venmo (i also never had a patreon to "support" my supposed "activism"). quite frankly, as someone who has literally saved lives (not "oh i talked someone out of suicide" but "i administered naloxone and performed emergency procedure to save someone from a fatal opioid overdose"), and doing that *without* ever having to become a clinician or a therapist (and any activist will tell you you DON'T NEED to get a degree or a job to do the work): i am fucking pissed.

i didn't get into activism for money, or because it was the cool thing to do, or it was all over twitter. i got thrown into activism. i was just there. i got thrown into it by virtue of being one of those groups. i have known people who have killed themselves, who have died from overdoses, who have been hospitalized multiple times, who are not even their legal guardians when they are full grown adults. i've known people i've managed to help, and people who i couldn't help, but would still try to help.

you can NOT simultaneously say "the psychiatric system is harmful and abusive, i just want to help people" while turning around and calling yourself a "therapist" with a fucking individual PATREON. i do not know if this is intentional or if this is what some of these people believe activism truly is.

i am pissed.

hi this is kinda random but i just wanted to share my piece on this and i’ve seen you talk about it before so i thought this would be a good place. i’ve been seeing so much blatant misogyny and ageism around here lately and it’s really taken a toll on me. like no matter how much you try to justify it as a moral thing, if you spend your days calling olivia wilde a cunt, narcissistic asshole, bitch, and talking shit about her age you ARE being misogynist. you’re not obligated to like her. i personally am not the biggest olivia wilde fan. a little background story, i was obsessed with booksmart when it came out, so as we often do with micro obsessions i deep dived into all things involving the movie, and that of course included olivia. i watched all the press interviews, read all the print ones, and i thought she was awesome. but as a trans lesbian, i always tend to search for celebrities’ stances on those issues before i start to actively support them and their work. not because i want or need celebrities to be activists, i just need to know they’re not assholes about things that are important to me. and that was when i found olivia’s comments about considering considered “a soft kind of lesbian relationship, just gentle kissing and scissoring” when she was lonely after the end of her first marriage, and not using too much make up because she can easily “go tranny” and the overall brand of trans-exclusionary and overly simplistic white feminism she stands for, and that of course was really hurtful and disappointing to me at the time. but still, i will NEVER ever sit around calling her names and talk about her with so much vitriol like most people around here do while intentionally digging up things from her past to try and make that behaviour somehow justifiable because people don’t want to admit how misogynistic and hateful they really are. but just an fyi, we can see right through it and not only is your deep rooted hatred for women crystal clear, but this rage against beards also makes you look str*ight lmao

I know that posting this might upset some friends and mutuals, but i think everything you've said is so important and should be heard. I love everyone i follow, even if i don't agree with their stances on everything, and am not shy about having direct conversations about a thing that bothers me instead of indirecting folks or sending anons, so hopefully anyone who disagrees here will do the same.

I think in particular i really feel you on talking about Olivia's particular brand of white feminism, in large part bc it's one of the more common reasons given by people talking about how much they hate her. Your statements are accurate; she has said some things that lead me to mistrust her politically and that feel very deeply entrenched in cis white privilege. She also seems to vibe pretty hard with a lot of pretentious white male auteurs (she recently reposted stuff about John Cassavetes, for example), and in my experience i just. Don't gel with people who do that.

HOWEVER the thing that always gets me is that Harry presents some of the very same white feminist tendencies, albeit, frankly, worse than Olivia? I love him, but he repeats earnest yet empty platitudes about not letting anyone tell you what to do with your body and donates $. It's nothing award worthy, and although i do appreciate that he wants to be careful what he puts his voice behind, it means that he actually says/boosts very little.

I know people dismiss it as performative activism, but i do actually think that celebrities sharing links to resources can be really helpful. Just to use the most current thing that comes to mind, Harry sharing a link to abortion funds (as Olivia did) would've gotten a message about their existence to a lot of people. A message of support isn't nothing, but it's certainly not evidence of top tier feminism.

I think if i saw more critique of Harry's (or any 1D member's) politics from the "i hate her for her white feminism" crowd, i would feel differently. But as it is, it appears that women are held to a high standard while men get the bar set on the ground and a medal if they trip over it 😬

Also, I wish more people understood that you don't actually have to give reasons for disliking someone! Olivia doesn't have to be a narcissist or have terrible politics for you to hate her. It's fine to just... Not like her. And then maybe not talk about her? Not joke about her violent death. Not make fun of the way she looks (she's ugly because she's a bad person/she's way too old to wear/do that thing so I'm gonna laugh at her).

Set misogyny aside for a second if you've got to-- it's just a horrible way to behave toward anyone, and the target (Olivia) is too distant to be hit by the negativity anyway. Instead those comments can end up hurting the people who read them and making them self conscious. For what?

It's not a popular opinion, but i personally view the beards in a generally positive way at the moment. I choose to believe that Harry and Louis have talked through what they want and made some decisions about how to handle their images. This isn't 2014/15 anymore, and the young men who I think did very much want to come out back then are in massively different places in their careers. There's no road map for an ex-boybander coming out and being successful. There are very few examples of successful solo artists who came out early in their careers and continued to find success afterwards. Harry and Louis are navigating an extremely difficult path, whether they're working toward coming out or not. I don't envy that aspect of their lives.

I think it's likely that the women who Harry and Louis are seen with were chosen (by them!) for reasons that i can't or won't be able to see/understand right now. And as I've said before, there is literally no woman in existence who could be liked as a beard in this fandom. No set of behaviors will lead to people not critiquing these women, and that's evidenced by searching tags on some of the blogs who talk loudest about the beards. (Spoiler alert: not one of them has been palatable if she stuck around for more than a couple days!)

And that's the real sign to me that unfortunately this is misogyny at work. If you can name more women associated with 1D who you hate/dislike than women associated with 1D you do like, why is that? How do you feel about it? Is that reflected in your other social circles or interests? Jamila Jameel asked a similar question on her Instagram a few years back and absolutely changed my perspective on misogyny. Would love it if that could happen throughout this fandom.

yeah it's definitely weird. i do suspect it might be a young person thing (just for the record i am also young and probably prone to this type of thinking just about. different things) because by the time someone who is hard left hits like 5-10 years of actual activism they tend to have learned to pick their battles and see the similarities between things more clearly. it always struck me as weird to single wrestling out particularly because while it's a rotten industry every single field it evolved out of or merged with also has equivalent (if not identical) problems. it's not a unique perversion of capitalism it's just a variation on spectator sports and spectacle theatre those things are. ancient.

ultimately also it feels silly to be passionately opposed to it as a form of entertainment while ok with other things especially considering that pro wrestling has been on a decline in popularity since the 90s and that in many ways it's not the primary representation of the "opiate of the masses"-type entertainment anymore. even in places where it's popular there are typically still more primary exports of mass entertainment. and in the rest of the world it's even less of a big deal.

in my eyes it's a combo of having a very specific superficial image (that, due to the aforementioned describe in popularity, is what most people are familiar with) and ALSO being a performance of combat sport. so it becomes a representation of the scourge of capitalism and the ways in which it reduces the proletarians into base subjects or whatever while not actually being at all different from the majority of sports, entertainment and art. i honestly prefer "wrestling is fake and lame" as a critique.

...Do you ever see people critiquing specific word usage in novels and wonder if they know that language can be used in fun and figurative ways? And that this is half the joy of writing?

An example off the top of my head - if I say ‘He gave a whisper of a smile’, it does not mean that the smile is literally whispering; it means that the word ‘whisper’ invokes a sense of smallness, due perhaps to subtlety or shyness, and that is something I want connected to your mental envisioning of this dude’s smile.

Hey anon 💛 I mean, I'm not gonna lie to you, it is funny. I hadn't heard of the movie, but the Wattpad fic turned movie franchise is pretty hilarious. That being said, I think that, for actors and other types of creators, projects that allow for a political/societal message don't come every day. And, like, Nicole's job is not to be an activist. In fact she hasn't posted anything in that vein for over a year.

Nicole (and Alba, Irene, Celia, Rizha, Hajar...) were lucky that their first project had its finger on the feminism discourse of that era. In no small part because they HAD to be, since Skam pushed them in that direction. Nicole has also been lucky to take part in the Parot TV series that shed a light on what the cancellation of the Parot doctrine meant for some people (even though I personally agreed with its cancellation). She's come into projects that are not that, and she's taken the paycheck. Is it any better or worse than posting #sponcon?

That being said, Nicole is lucky, because she is offered these projects that don't HAVE to have a political/societal message. On the other hand, Hajar has spoken about the way her career will only ever be about societal awareness, even though she would like to play an alien or a robot or any kind of role that allows her not to have to uncover. But she is only ever offered roles about being oppressed.

In the end, I would say that people looking towards creators for #activism, could instead be looking at actual activists, social workers, and people working on programs in their own communities (and become involved). Doing the twitter thing where someone goes after an actor for not doing activism 100% is both pointless and also encourages performative activism.

(But Culpa Mía still sounds dumb as shit.)

It'd been a while since I'd done a r-dblr purge (mark red and block if they are actively cruel to trans people within the first page of their blog. You'd think feminist issues would be the bulk of posting, it's r-dical feminism after all and all the issues are ongoing. BTW I don't block people for hating men, they have a right to vent and it takes time to understand the systems at play that do allow for decent men even if you're not ready to to partner with any cishet ones) I probably marked and blocked 150 today, many 18-24 years old, lots of them lonely.

Doing the scan of a blog to make sure I'm not marking someone who didn't get the dogwhistles in a bigoted post means you see a lot of the content they're angry about.

I too hate porn unless it's safe sane and enthusiastically consensual.

That means performers who know exactly what they are getting into, who have alternatives if they want a different job and can set boundaries without being pushed or blacklisted for it. The majority of porn doesn't fit but the advent of amateur, onlyfans and ethical studios gives people options to view porn where no-one is hurt.

I also believe that all viewers need to know that pron is sex stunts and some things will not work for them, cause chafing or stds, cause injury if perfomed for real. That should be part of the viewing, a little PSA 'don't try this at home we're actors, we rehearsed the hair pulling so no-one's scalp got torn and switched condoms and edited it out'. Honestly I find most of the porno tropes misogynistic, macho and racist even though we've mostly left gonzo behind.

Straight Male performers aren't allowed to be shown as into their partner... when behind the scenes they get quite tender, briefly besotted with their partner when it's not an ego driven star.

I also have hard boundaries about what kind of porn a partner would watch. I pay extra for no slavery in my chocolate and expect a partner diligent enough to get their porn from people not getting boundaries violated or work injuries.

But there's no nuance to rdfm anti porn stances. They're going off trafficking victims and Linda Lovelace's speeches when sex work like marriage is a whole spectrum from a heinous crime to chosen job. And we have the ability to hear from all of these women. What they really want from their industry, from activists, from society at large. The in person full contact sex workers I've known were doing it so they could be present during the day for their children or get a higher education without their study time consumed by a low wage job. Another was seeking validation and briefly being loved, her rl relationships kept imploding because it was never enough or she'd push them to see if they'd love her anyway. That wasn't exactly sane. But you can't force anyone into getting meds and therapy if they're not ready.

There were articles about how marriage hurts women who must leave their family and join the husbands and instead of talking about the part of the research that showed that women who got men to move in with them were able to negotiate better work and pay equality, it was just desist and kill all men.

Funnily enough it's my "not really feminist", "don't like the term" , mum who originally sent me the study with a quote from Moses in genesis explaining Gd's guidelines "Therefore a man must leave his father and his mother and cling to his wife". Funny how many abramic religious marriages ignore that you can't be momma's boy and a husband and definitely not move your wife in with your folks.

Anyway that's this month's observations, those who actually did have 2nd wave posts on top of hating on transness are very young and are often starting out with the non black non queer reading from 30 years ago after a superficial lib fem alignment with zero reading. Often in college or just out of college having been 'peaked' against what they perceive to be mainstream feminism after seeing crime and inequality statistics. If you're interested in reducing terfs, a good place to start is outreach and local online bookclub where you can get the word of intersectionality and sisterhood out before the gcs groom them.

There is an initial curiosity, there is still that spark but it is being answered with unnuanced conclusions with simple explanations and "solutions" that shut down futher investigation.

There were also a couple of detrans afabs who will probably choose to be gnc or non binary or retransition when they're more comfortable with how they can be men. This is a systematic problem with trans medicalism that wants to stick people into binary boxes and insist they perform masc men and femme women. That's not a patient based approach and it's part of the conservative restrictions on the way gender care is allowed to exist at the fringes of healthcare.
