Live action Yu Yu Hakusho liveblog: ep 1

This is so much fun. Nostalgia time. 13 year old me is LIVING

Warning for like whole ep 1 spoilers and all

Yusuke and Botan look great which I already knew going in from the gifset that informed me this show exists lol, but it's delightful, bc the characters in this show aren't necessarily the easiest to translate to live action

Botan is adorable. Her hair is adorable. And I'm delighted to see that Yusuke's hair is the Correct amount of Poufy

Plot twist: Kuwabara hot. He looks great actually. Translated nonliterally compared to Yusuke but v well. The actor is selling me on it too, fun casting

Kuwabara was always hard for me to watch in the original bc he set off my vicarious embarrassment soo hard. Glad they're less committed to making him the constant source of painful comedic relief here lol

KOENMA PACIFIER REVEAL I LOVE IT

Laughed out loud for real tbh

Idk if I'm a little disappointed he's not a baby but like live action would make that ridic hard to do in a lot of ways so I don't blame them at all. He's in his adult form which makes sense. Still damn glad they kept the pacifier it is RUINING his dignity and I love it

I also don't blame them for cutting the flying oar effects. A lil sad but the initial transition to Reikai looked great so they're forgiven

Yusuke. "No thanks." I knew it was coming and the delivery still made me laugh out loud. Just dropped it in there. Yusuke I love you please see a therapist

Fight scenes are v creative and p epic

Seriously they do a really good job of making Yusuke's fighting style as a human believable, fun to watch, and effective. He rly does come off as just kind of a natural fighting genius (with practice ofc)

Sakyo in ep 1? Weird but I'm not opposed. The wavy hair is kinda freaking me out though ngl. Smoothness was just such his THING in the show it's distracting

Really liked Yusuke's mom's introduction (not that it was flattering to her as a character) but I wish they'd done more with her in the rest of the ep. Her power hug at the end is great tho

Show's slowing down a bit but it's fine I'm still having fun, the nostalgia power will get me through basically whatever

NO PUU!!!! This is tragic but I Do understand this as an adaptation choice. Reluctantly. Tragic tho.

That said I keep watching the motion of him and the other demons in this ep and thinking about Hayao Miyazaki said about the disgusting cruelty of using effects technology to make the scary scary inhuman monsters just fucking. look and move like disabled ppl

Seriously I keep seeing flashes of the appearance and movements of people I know with developmental disabilities (particularly this one guy I know with cerebral palsy but also I've worked in care work for disabled adults and just kind of a lot of people in general) and. I hate this. Especially as a person who DOES have a (nonvisible) developmental disability myself. This is such a rising trend in horror/sff/fantasy tv/movies/video games and I hate everything about it. Hayao Miyazaki was right this kind of attitude and shit really is "an insult to life itself"

DEMON CREW CAMEO AT THE END

Kurama looks pretty good. Goki actually looks wayyyy better than he did in the anime imho, which I did not see coming.

Effects on Kurama and Hiei's fighting looks surprisingly great. They pulled off the rose whip way better than I thought they would, and did some great wirework with Hiei's speed and fighting style

That said....Hiei...oof. That hair was always gonna be a Challenge but I think their ambition here did uh. not play off rip. Hopefully it'll look better later on

What are some fantasy books you consider represent colonialism wrong/from a very white or colonial pov?

Sorry you dont have to tell which books etc you were vagueing im just genuinely interested !

Hmm, this is tough bc for the last three years most of the books I've consumed have been for college, and most of the stuff on Imperialism has been nonfiction for my PoliSci classes. When I wrote that post, I wasn't just thinking about books, but about media as a whole.

Now, I want to make it very clear that I don't necessarily consider any of the following works ✨️Problematic✨️ because they fail to capture certain elements of Imperialism/Colonialism (I'm using the terms interchangeably bc they're similar enough that in fiction they tend to get glomped together, but they're actually technically two different things but also It Does Not Matter). I don't consider a white person not completely grasping colonialism a moral failing. My issue is less moral and more of annoyance at how so often we hold up white people as the standards for writing about something *they didn't even write about well*.

And with that point made: Avatar. It's Avatar. Not the blue people movie (that one's awful, but I don't think I need to explain why), it's AtLA. Listen, I really do love AtLA. It's a great show that does an excellent job at demonstrating that just because something is targeted to children it doesnt have to be dumbed down and can still tell an incredible story. I also think that the showriters did a lot of research in order to write the Fire Nation and it's imperialist actions. It touches on a lot of elements of imperialism that a lot of other media fails to capture. It's a good show, it really is.

But it is still a children's show written by a bunch of white people. It annoys me to no end that people hold it up as The Pinnacle Of Anti-Imperialist-Colinialist-Racist Writing, the Golden Standard To Which All Things Must Be Held, when really its Baby's First Look Into Politics. It was WRITTEN to be Baby's First Look Into Politics. Half of its target audience is still literally munching on crayons.

I also don't like how it handles a lot of things. A lot of people have brought up Hama, but I also think that it doesn't do a great job with the Jet stuff. Again, its a children's show. Its HAS to show the right socially accepted moral lesson that Pacifism Best and Killing Bad. If you study real life imperialism tho, extremism is its natural consequence. Almost always, when there is a successful revolution, it IS led by extremist groups, because those are the people most willing to sacrifice themselves! I think AtLA does a good job at portraying Jet and Hama as sympathetic, but it also goes very hard on the Still Bad angle. The thing is, Aang's my way or the highway deal only really works because he's the Universes Specialest Boy Avatar. I don't think there's much of an aknowledgement that there really isn't much that people like Jet CAN do if its not turn to more extremist measures. I know a lot of white people are very pro-pacifism and love clean revolutions, but thats just. Not how it works.

If you're part of a colony, the sad reality is that you Will continue being a colony unless you can find a way to perform a mass upheaval of the existing system. And, sadly, the only viable way to do this for a lot of the colonized is violence. And violence born in anger is not known for being Clean and Pretty and Morally Just. I don't like the trend of holding colonized peoples solely accountable for their actions in response to the incredible colonial violences of an empire. I get to murder you indiscriminately, but you can't dare to murder in my general direction back, or you're just as bad as I am. Actions don't exist in a vacuum.

I think this is where AtLA's view on politics is weakest, because I feel it fails at providing a viable alternate measure to the actions of Hama and Jet. Aang, and by extension team avatar, has a privilege that they don't have access to. They're just mean to sit there and wait to be saved, I guess.

Also we spent three seasons seeing the after effect of a single shitty Emperor that the Avatar trusted deciding he was gonna be shitty and starting a hundred years of imperialism like some evil aureliano buendia, only to at the end immediately put Zuko on the throne? Maybe Zuko is a good emperor, but can you guarantee his kids will be? His grandkids? What happens if he gets murdered, Azula gets to take the throne and starts Being Evil again? The system remains unchanged, and it can still be abused in the exact same ways.

I bring up AtLA because I think it demonstrates these two aspects that I think make a lot of Imperialism According to White People (IAtWP) narratives fall flat to me. I use AtLa as an example precisely because its a good story, because I want to demonstrate that getting some stuff right and putting in effort and ending up with a good product doesn't mean that a work WON'T have these issues.

Generally, IAtWP narratives will have a very morally pure view on rebellions and demand higher levels of moral righteousness from the colonized than it does from the oppressed, or they will be overly dark and gritty and "realistic" and will refuse to interact with the morality of the setting, being an Everyone Bad, Actually narrative. Secondly, IAtWP stories tend to see Imperialism as a Good People/Bad People issue. Usually they will aknowledge the failures of an imperialist system, but they will still uphold the "superiority" of the imperialist system by treating it as the only way to govern, ergo revealing that they cannot conceive of alternate methods of rule.

On that second point, white american/european people who live in an imperial system never seem to grasp the idea that those poor suffering colonized masses are also capable of the concept of innovation. I think where a lot of white leftists fail when interacting with anti-imperialist rhetoric is that they limit themselves to the anti-imperialism. They can recognize that imperialism is bad, but they can't concieve of the colonized as anything BUT colonized. Even while free, they are Free From Imperialism. The truth is, we have entire fields of scholarship discussing the intricacies of how to navigate freedom. There's internal debates in politics and public and academia about how freedom will work for us. I'm going to talk now from a puertorrican/latin american perspective, since that's my field of specialization. Freedom is not an abstract concept to us. We have spent decades examining the fabric of our society to find alternatives to the current system. Here in Puerto Rico, the modern independence conversation dates back all the way to the 19th century. For most of that time, Puerto Rico and Cuba acted in conjunction when it came to academic matters. Until Castro, you did not discuss Puertorrican independence without Cuba also being talked about, because there was a very strong solidarity between the two nations. This is, of course, without mentioning the work that Haiti and the Dominical Republic also shared with us, as well as a wider Latin America. If you read W.E.B Du Bois' essays on imperialism, he does not focus only on Africa, but he also frequently talks about Latin America and Asia and MENA and even some European nations/ethinicities/racial groups when discussing unity. If we look at Political Science, the Dependence Theory, which is one of the frameworks through which imperialism and colonialism are understood today, was pioneered by Latin American and South/South East Asian academics in conjunction, academics of dozens and dozens of countries that worked and interacted and argued with each other to create a field of scholarship that directly countered the trends in white academia of the time. Even more colloquially, I do not know a single Puertorican that knows the basics of the history of the Philippines that does not solidarize with them and consider them our siblings in the same way that we think of the rest of Latin America. The Global South is not composed of a bunch of meek little victim nations, isolated within our own colonial bubbled, but of over a hundred countries that actively interact with each other's ideas.

I find white authors and creators often do not understand the level at which imperialism has effected the very way that we think about the world, or at the level to which we talk to each other about it. To them, we only exist within the context of interractions with our colonial powers. They often underestimate the level of solidarity in thought that has formed within nations BECAUSE of imperialism. And as a result, they always write overly simplistic resistance moments lead by vague ideologies and people that don't know what they're talking about. Theres a lot more to resistance than the resistance itself, there has to be a strong backbone of intellectual tradition to back it up.

I went off on a bit of a tangent there, but I still think it's important when discussing how white creators fail at portraying imperialism and colonialism. They fail by not being able to see it from the point of view of the colonized. I know I didn't fully answer the question, but I hope this makes sense and helps you understand the framework through which I judge a piece of media that interacts with the themes of Colonialsm and Imperialism. I just want to add here at the end, that this is just how I see it, and not an Objectively Correct Method Of Identification or anything. I know a lot of people that consider things differently, because we all have different frameworks which we use to view the issue. Its not a matter of being right or wrong, but a matter of how we all interact with the world differently. Now, please pray for me that I don't get murdered for this.

I am also a Canadian Greg truther but I live in America so I can’t imagine the full extent of what it means for him to be a Canadian boy™

Ooooohhhh hell yeah I love to share the Good Word about Canadian Greg at least from my thoughts

while I tend to tweak his background based on the specific fic I am writing here in there, I really truly believe Greg has moved around a lot in his life. I like to think in fact he's got American citizenship/was probably born there but after his dad (presumably) left after he (presumably) cheated on Greg's mother, they moved back to Canada so Marianne could be closer to Ewan (for better or for worse considering Ewan is....... kinda a dick imo) and now he's a dual-citizen, always an interloper, never quite Canadian enough but not quite settled into American culture.

Partially due to my own experience I think he grew up mostly in Ontario, he doesn't come across as, like, Quebecois to me tho neither do Ewan or Logan despite canonically being raised there so uh you know, and I only ever spent 5 weeks in Quebec myself. but, French Canadian peoples tend to be connected to their Francophone identities in my experience with Acadians and other Francophones in other areas of Ontario, so yeah i mean idk. It's not impossible but he feels more Ontarian, I could see some Western hcs but I've never been further West so like........... i stick him in Ontario bc it's what I know better.

On that, I think he speaks passable but not excellent French with an Okay accent, he likes and knows hockey, has a variety of Canadian slang he doesn't pull out around his US folks. He likes colour-coded Canadian money because it's easier, dammit.

I also like to imagine him spending a bit of time in small town Atlantic Canada, that is the epitome of self-indulgence for Me because that's where my own actual experience mostly lies. He has some random factoids about fishing. I like to imagine he did Little Rocks which is a curling program for kids, he was almost definitely a Scout (he might have moved to Canada young enough to be a Beaver Scout🥺) and he knows, how to safely start a fire and camping basics (i think he prefers to stay in a cabin to a tent tho lmfao), and I believe he genuinely likes some outdoorsy activities, such as hiking, but also wants to be able to retreat to a comfortable area and not be left out in the rain or anything like that.

I think he was raised Catholic which could be anywhere lmao and knows how to hunt but doesn't love it (which I think it was said he did in the scripts in Hunting, as well as Tom, but I can't recall?). I think he made friends that always felt temporary, he was often the new kid and always the weird gawky guy, but he got along with some people even if he was sometimes the butt of the joke too. He did stupid shit like putting hairspray on his hands and letting other guys light it on fire, partially to fit in and partially because "What's the worst that could happen". Not necessarily exclusive to Canada but I knew these guys irl. So.

One of the things I've noticed that is a big difference between Canadians and US Americans is we don't mythologize or adore our founders the way they do. Unsure impact that has on Greg, but part of me likes to do a little excusing for him, that he rationalizes meddling with American politics and the landscape of the News using the idea that it's not his "Real home", even though he knows damn well the US impacts Canada in a huge way. It's another one of his many excuses, like, "it's not my fault, i'll get in trouble if I don't, i need a job to survive and this one is as good as any" etc.

Finally. Another one of my Greg headcanons despite having 0 evidence canonically and in fact evidence against it to an extent- he likes a good graphic tee. Most of them are stored at his mother's. Most importantly, he owns this:

Pt. 2 of the autistic gf lmao

-since gf tends to sleep many hours at a time, Sevika wakes her up to make sure she eats and has something to drink, maybe to also remind her to take her meds. I have slept 16 consecutive hours before and have accidentally scared my mother.

-i talked about the cool of Sev's metal arm and preferring to cling on to it sometimes. It's not necessarily therapeutic or a certified coping mechanism, in my experience there are days where my sensory issues are just wacky, i talk about it a bit here. So certain textures and sometimes warm/soft things feel hellish to me when they normally wouldn't. Her metal arm isn't scratchy, or lukewarm, or wouldn't stick to my skin; it's steady, it cools down the gf's skin, it's nice. For me, at least, it would be a wonderful alternative for those uncomfortable days.

-there's a high incidence of autistics who also have conditions in their digestive systems, (mine can cause me bloating and pains similar to period cramps, so I'll just use it as an example for this one). So when the pain starts Vika's making tea, particularly ginger tea, and cuddling her. Probably end up falling asleep together on the couch cuz the gf didn't wanna be moved from where she was.

- while I do know some sign, I'm still learning and the one I'm studying is American sign so it's not perfect and I might have trouble explaining it. I did wanna add this though bc I'm in love with the concept of Vika talking in sign language. It is gonna be a mini scenario, not that good at writing them tho.

It was still a bit dark. But having barely been able to see Sevika the last couple of days bc of her job, I decided to wake up early to at least make her some coffee and kiss her goodbye. Missing the warmth of the bed, I quickly zipped up my jacket and tiptoed to the kitchen. Vika was still sleep in bed, so I didn't wanna wake her just yet.

The dim lightbulb started to buzz when I turned it on, and started to pour water on the cup before starting up the coffee machine. It was gonna be a couple of minutes. Maybe she'd like it with a bit of milk or vanilla? The generally takes it black but that's cuz she barely has time to make it.

After silently stepping back into the bedroom, I crouch down to Vika's eye level and rub my palm on her forearm. It's enough to wake her up, much to her protest. I twist my bunched fists at the wrists on top of one another, after wards moving one of said fists in circular motions on top of the other. Made coffee. With scrunched brows, I made a grabbing motion towards myself, then made squeezing motions with my right hand. Want milk? Leaning in another direction, i rotated my right hand in the V sign on my left fist. Or vanilla? She was still half asleep, but muttered a Yes before sinking her face in my arms. I want to ask her to stay in today, she's exhausted and Silco can probably last a day without her. She's really stubborn though, and probably won't take the day off, even if I ask her to. By the time I finished that train of thought, she was fetching her hearing aids from her nightstand and cleaning them before putting them on. We didn't reach the kitchen though, as she pulled me back to the bed and buried her head on my shoulder "just give me five more minutes, it's cold without you" patting her shoulder, she moved a bit to see me sign Why don't you stay at home today?. "Can't. Zaun would fall to pieces without me." Just for today, please. I miss you.

-Vika has learned which are her gf's stims, and they're the ones she does when agitated she now knows how to help her gf. She tries to find a more comfortable environment, take her meds, or something of the sort; she helps her feel better, not try to stop her stimming.

-since writing thinks down helps her gf remember and understand things, she constantly saves said notes. The might not be useful or necessary anymore, but she loves her gf's handwriting.

-sneaking the two of them into Piltie parks and gardens so her gf can feed crumbs to the birds and look at the fish. There's barely any in Zaun, so it's a cute lil date for both, with fresh air, maybe a picnic.🥺🥺

Why do I feel like sevika is the kind of person who notes down on a calendar when you've taken your medication, and also scribbles down when you're able to take them next :((( like she used to do it to remind you, but now its something that's become a daily thing for her, because she loves taking care of you and overall she's just so gentle about it :(

Ah! Ty for telling me about it, I was wondering if it was just something that helps you cope and keeps you calm but thank you for enlighting me. I learn a lot, especially from when you write about her and what you do to keep yourself comfortable. <3

i'm gonna put julia hart in here too since you asked about her as well.

jay: have loved him ever since his debut. i thought he was a bit rough around the edges when he first got thrown into all these high profile matchups, but thats only natural lol he was literally a child. i think lots of ppl perked up tho after him vs kenny in sapporo. i was a bit disappointed they didnt do more with the history between him and hanger, kenny and ibushi for wembley but there was a lot of negative stuff going on at the time so w/e.

i love him a lot but id have to say that i have cooled down on him a bit cause im not watching aew rn and there really isnt any other way to perceive him, sadly. i know the gang gang scissor ass bang or whatever is immensely popular and i did like some of the stuff i was sent by friends but i gotta say im a little bit over it just by consuming from afar lol so next i would love for him to get into a grimy nasty t i g h t feud with someone swerve someone and really bring back the rat (like during the time he was chasing after ibushi like he wanted him to [redacted] him sm that [redacted])

hes still for some reason kinda an underrated wrestler who does lots of small things in the ring i appreciate but that dont necessarily stand out so ppl dont really pick up on it a lot. hes not very flashy, i suppose (in the in-ring sense; hes very loud otherwise lol). i think he really stepped up like kenny said and grew into his own, and thats not as easy to do as ppl sometimes say it is. i hold a lot of his matches in high regard, especially him vs ibushi g1 finals, that match is immortal to me and one of my fav matches of all time, ever.

julia: i was extremely meh on her when she started out, the cheerleading stuff just didnt appeal to me even if i can agree that its athletically impressive. whoever trained her tho did a really good job, there are a lot of areas that you can tell she really did her homework in and improved a lot. i think joining hob was the best thing that could ever have happened to her. i said this before somewhere else but i absolutely do NOT get what anyone (tk cough) was smoking to say she shouldve stayed with the varsity blondes, that wouldve been the death of her character 💀 i love her father daughter relationship with the hob guys out of kayfabe and in kayfabe she has some of the coolest gear and entrances.

i really liked her match against kris for the title and i wish it couldve been a little bit longer but i still felt they did everything in their power to get over in those 8? 9? minutes. julias turnbuckle jumpscare is probably my favorite thing about her.

other than that i sadly dont have much of an opinion on her bc, again, i dont watch aew, so if shes done something cool lately sorry folks 🤷 (i did see her gay entrance with skye? iirc, so that was 👌)

I am still not over my Good Omens kick. I was thinking about Crowley and who he was before the fall and a lot of signs point to Baraqiel especially since he created the stars and had that little count to 10 and shoot off lightning (Baraqiel literally means "lightning of God") bc he was pissed. But now I'm considering this one?

Samael "poison of God"

An archangel who is a seducer, Crowley's whole temptation thing, and he is often depicted resembling Satan? Like idk Crowley's very red hair and the Snake form in the Garden which a lot of ppl associate being Satan.

Samael's jobs are not necessarily evil and I mean with everything Crowley does it's never really anything Evil. He claims to have done things to make himself look good all the time but as it turns out the humans keep coming up with horrendous stuff all own their own, he just takes credit for it.

I need to read more about the angel itself but I'm really considering it as a possibility. Tho there did seem to be a lot of hints to him being Baraqiel. I wonder if Neil himself will ever reveal who Crowley was before the fall or maybe he just wants us to accept Crowley for who he is now.

I'd love to hear other thoughts on this!!

Umm abt that video it's like. Pecco obviously has a beautiful face (and body, if I may say so) but to truly capture attention in a way that would make one stop and reconsider requires a certain type of, mystique? (For the lack of a better word). There is something about him that is extremely tethered to this world, and not in a sense that makes him self assured but more like, gives him cause to worry too much about mortal rules of right and wrong. And I think to truly capture that fleeting sense of fantasy one needs to have their head in the clouds just a little. A kind of haughtiness that comes from knowing you don't necessarily care about the ways of this world. Which conversely Vale possessed a lot of, and it made him who he is. I do think Pecco is a gentleman and sweetheart tho, which I respect because he's really good at sticking to the rules and it paid off for him real good, so who's the say, ya know.

Also the stylist could have taken more risk. They wanted him to look like the modern male fantasy when they should have leaned harder into his strangely timeless Byzantine mosaic face (as has been said on Tumblr before). But I suppose that would have been difficult given this was probably a ducati sponsored editorial.

a measured and fair analysis, thank you for your input queen. i mean of course vale has the it factor and magnetism that pecco doesn’t have, they’re two very different people and i don’t see much of a point in comparing them tbh! though i will say in terms of modeling capabilities vale is actually imo not that great at it. yeah david bailey did a good job with him bc he’s an iconic fashion photographer but in some other photo shoots i’ve come across he looks goofy af. like the right photographer and styling can make anyone look incredible and in this case it’s just a basic little feature in a smaller magazine it’s no vogue italia lol

opinion on zamasu (doesnt matter if its regular zamasu, goku black, fused zamasu, corrupted zamasu etc etc just zamasu in general)

oh now youve done it.

OK SO. like i said in my post abt supreme kais i really adore zamasu as a character bc he breaks the chain of supreme kai characters by being an antagonist/villain! he's a BAD supreme kai. a rotten apple. and we love him for that. he has morals, sure, but theyre not necessarily the right ones--theyre selfish and conceited and skewed morals that only really benefit him and his rightious ego to the point of where he's so in denial that theyre wrong that he refuses to believe anyone is correct about them except himself from another timeline. incredible

i do think that maybe if he had been given another chance early on to learn properly, maybe in a different way than how gowasu was going about it (to me it felt like gowasu was just like "this is wrong and thats how it is, we cant change anything" instead of maybe explaining Why things are the way they are and maybe try harder to help zamasu understand "justice" and "good vs evil" better in a way zamasu could better understand it) he could have been convinced to maybe back down from his extreme plan and come around to good again. bc i dont think he was always evil. he had a heart at one point, albeit one that grew clouded over time, and i think it was able to be tapped into before he went off the deep end. i believe in zamasu redemption arcs dont look at me

ok but goku black tho. i gotta talk abt goku black bc that mfer...is a lot. at his core he is zamasu, yes! but i think after swapping bodies and basically integrating with goku's body, he became a different person. maybe not entirely, especially at his core--otherwise i dont think future zamasu would have completely trusted him like he did--but maybe on a more surface level. as a saiyan, zamasu embraced the destructive and violent part of him. he embraced his bloodlust and even gave into it, and he enjoyed battle just as much as goku did, if not MORE... i like to use this reasoning to justify blamasu as a ship LMFAO. just to throw that in there. BUT ALSO some goku black headcanons that i like are that, being a supreme kai all his life, he doesnt know how to deal with a mortal--specifically saiyan--body properly. he doesn't know how much sleep it needs. he doesn't know how much it needs to eat to be healthy. all he knows is that it has unlimited potential for growth in terms of power. SO, i like to think he's very bad at taking care of goku's body and kind of lets it...for lack of a better word, rot. that's why i always depict him with heavy eyebags, sunken cheeks...he's HUNGRRY and TIRED and he has no idea how to deal with it so he ignores it and blames it on his "unruly saiyan body" :)

as for fused zamasu, i love that bitch. its like the perfect representation of how zamasu literally only agrees with himself and at the point of fusion he's completely engulfed in his own ego and ideals, past any sort of convincing otherwise. and the corruption of his form really seals the deal--he is so far gone he just turns into this ugly, ferocious monster. although back to some headcanon stuff, i like to think zamasu and black fusing was the ultimate form of self love for them, and when goku's attack clashed with him and turned his face goopy...that was part of him dying. the goku black part was dead. half of him was DEAD. he just had half of his body as a corpse at that point, because he was half mortal half immortal. and when that happened, he didnt know how to handle it, so he used the divine lightning to finish the job and completely rid himself of his mortal half, thus breaking down and becoming the hulking beast that was his corrupted form. i love it. i love seeing characters devolve into madness to the point of becoming monsters that represent their psyche <3

in super dragon ball heroes we see fused zamasu again but as a smaller version of himself, seemingly pre-corruption, but it's obvious that it's actually POST-corruption--i like to think fu took him out of his timeline just before he was destroyed physically and surgically removed the decomposing dead parts of him (the goop). that's why he has that armor covering his shoulder and right eye--those were the affected parts of his surgery! i like to think under his eyepatch piece he still has a purple bit of eye under there that fu left for one reason or another

the idea of dead city going on for more than one season is actually so interesting bc for s1 maggie and negan are kiinda stuck with each other so it's like, once this is sorted and they find hershel etc, what, they're gonna just choose to stay around each other for longer???? that'd be crazy

crazy as in I would love to see it. I assume that isn't quite what'd happen tho. like they'll probs be sucked into some more drama that results in them needing each other to survive bc they both know the other is good at shit. but I would love it if at a certain point, they're spending time together less bc they need to in order to survive easier or get a job done and more bc they want to or at a minimum in maggie's case just doesn't mind having negan around, maybe not necessarily that she's bffs with him

if the show goes on for a while and they keep just happening to get into situations where they are forced to be with each other when they, especially maggie, don't wanna be that'll get repetitive. I wanna see their dynamic grow and change fr fr

annie and the kid could show up at some point as well which would be interesting. I wonder if the entire show is gonna end with negan and Annie reuinong and them maybe all going back to hilltop and him be welcome to live there or something. idfk. there's a reason I don't write tv shows I don't have great ideas.

one thing I do know tho is I need negan and maggie to not fucking die. like.. don't piss me off. I actually did see someone come up with an idea that was something like it ends with negan dying and it kinda is a full circle moment of he killed glenn but saved maggie/hershel or something like that and it also gives maggie some kind of closure to see that he's changed even tho it killed him like yeah that would fuck me up but I just would like this one fuckin time for a redeemed character to not die

I'm very of the opinion that ppl need to not go back to the comics to explain why something is happening in the show, like use the motives for the characters in the show to explain why something is happening don't just say 'well it happened in the comic' bc that doesn't suddenly give an in universe explanation for why characters are doing certain things but I do think the thing in the comics of negan getting to survive and it being a deliberate choice by the writers to have him live bc it's so rare a redeemed characters gets to do that is a cool thing that should ideally be carried over into the show.

if he does die I'm not gonna be one of those annoying ppl that's like 'well in the comics he lived sooo' bc the comics and show are two separate things and we know they don't follow it completely but I would be disappointed even if the death is good (bc usually what happens with me is my redeemed fave dies and I'm like ugh ffs but the death itself is top tier and fucks me up every time)

It should also be taken into account that, although you do fetch quests for a lot of the villagers, most of them don't actually know you at all. You're out of the village the vast majority of the time, and when you're not a lot of time is spent with the other survey corp members doing your job, so it's not as if you have the option of sitting down with most of them and actually forming bonds. I think the people you give pokemon to are more inclined to trust and like you, just on account of forming at the very least working relationships with pokemon, so you're likely at least moderately less intimidating to them. You also tend to talk to them more, like the people in the field, the lady you give the geodude to, and the wurmple guard dude, so they get a better sense of you. But for most of the villagers, including Kamado? It's a very distant relationship, and that makes it very easy for rumors to spread. And with so few people actually knowing and trusting you, there's not a lot of pushback and what there is isn't very effective.

It's unfair, and the people who know you know that it's unwarranted, but most of the people don't. You're mysterious and kind of scary, and yeah you're helpful, but there are probably rumors that you've been suspiciously helpful, and you're not there enough for long enough to dispel their worries. Which sucks, and it's painful to work so hard and still be met with distrust, especially when they do kind of like you and don't really want you to be hurt but even still don't want you there in case you prove to be dangerous to them. Like they like you, but if it's you or them then it's gonna be them every time, because as it is you're not worth the risk. It's better than outright maliciousness, but I do think that it probably made the betrayal hurt worse than if they had always hated you and treated you badly. Like you know most of your bullies don't like you, but if you think they're your friend before they tell you they never actually liked them nearly as much as you like them, that kind of betrayal cuts so deep.

Which actually makes it kind of strange to me that more people don't hate Volo with the same fervor that they do Kamado, since he actively manipulated you by trying to be your friend, for genuinely malicious purposes. Maybe it's because Kamado made it seem like if you worked hard enough, did what he wanted without complaint, and were well behaved and helpful, that there'd be a home for you, only to sweep the rug out from under you? Which likely speaks to a lot of peoples' parental trauma/issues. Probably also helps that Volo has pretty privilege lol

more seriously though i do think there's something to be said for the way that kamado is like, very stern but also very willing to praise you for the things you do well. he has no problem saying that you're skilled, hard-working, etc etc. when it comes up. so it does feel like you are slowly winning him over, and if you just keep trying you can get into his good graces—aaaand then you get the complete polar opposite instead. which IS probably more of a rug-pull than volo's, bc you were actually working for it, and engaged in it. there's also the fact that kamado's betrayal has material repercussions for the player, and the game goes to lengths to spell that out, while volo's... doesn't so much? it just sort of happens and then you clean it up nigh immediately and then basically never see volo again. which probably also contributes to the disproportionate reactions, since i think ppl react more strongly to the one that is, well, emphasized more.

besides that tho. YEAH YEAH FOR SURE, everything you said abt the ppl in jubilife not knowing the protag very well. i mean ymmv since i think there's a lot of room to hc or imagine that the protag is spending more time in jubilife (and hisui in general) than you necessarily playthrough in the game, but the game is VERY fast-paced in terms of the depicted time that's passing (what, like, 2 weeks, maybe?) so if you take it as written you really don't get hardly any opportunity to get to know people in jubilife outside the survey corps. a big part of it IS probably also "i'll just keep my head down," like the more neutral people just going ahead and agreeing with the more extreme opinions bc it's better safe than sorry, right?

this is tangential but this whole convo really does reinforce that the survey corps IS, like, the protag's closest circle. cyllene, laventon, and the counterpart really are the ones who know you so much better than anyone else. they're essentially the polar opposite of the general jubilife opinion. like there are the clan leaders and wardens, obvi, but they're also partially motivated by believing that you're gonna fix the sky. cyllene i really don't think her primary motivation (or like, a thing that contributed any motivation at all) was her going "ok i'm gonna send you support so you fix the sky faster." like that feels silly even just typing it, no, she went out of her way to help you as soon as she got the chance just bc she was worried about you! and all three of them, their dialogue seeing you off AND when you return makes it clear that they were all fretting over you the whole time you were gone. surveyfam moments

Ian and Mickey Meta Questions: Clothing

this is my moment 🙏 aka just me rambling to myself @gallavichmeta

1. When do you think the first time was that one wore the others clothes? And what feelings did they have about it?

I’m looking through gifs and it seems like the earliest occurence is during 2x01/3x11 with this grey hoodie? and my only interpretation of this is that sometime during the s2 summer, Ian left it at the dugouts after they fucked. and Mickey saw it in the corner of his closet since he also forgot to give it back, and naturally was drawn to it without realizing it’s Ian’s to help him cope with how sad he was :/

2. Mickey is the youngest brother in his family and Ian is the middle brother in his family. What feelings do they have about hand-me-down clothing?

Mickey didn’t care at all cause that’s the way life was for him in Terry’s household, sadly.

Well canonically Ian was tired of living under Lip’s shadow and he’s his only older brother, so naturally some of his clothes are his hand-me-downs. You can also see that in the show. I think that Ian didn’t rly mind this particularly, just shows how close he is with Lip y’know? and they have different styles but so similar at the same time esp Lip’s is more nerdy

3. Do you think either of them have a favourite outfit or item of clothing?

Oh I know Mickey fucking LOVES his black boat neck sleeveless tank. mans wears it all the time, like if he was in a dress up game this would be his default option. I saw a cute fanart speculating that the reason why he mostly wears sleeveless clothes esp in early seasons is bc he overheard Ian saying he esp loves a r m s in men so he cut them specifically, but I feel like he felt uncomfortable and wants to stretch his arms. we all know how he’s a man of action

On the other hand Ian is obsessed with military outfits 💀 first of all bro got the ugly buzzcut. ok sure, whatever, he changes hairstyles every season anyway. but then he was wearing his rotc uniform everywhere?? cutting it into shorts for the club? and he dared mickey to wear the camo for the gig 💀💀 he literally has a kink for it and it’s embarrassing i’m sorry. tho I’m a hypocrite cause he does look good in it, but when does he not? if a watch counts as an item of clothing tho I’m gonna say that instead

4. Do you think either of them have a least favourite item of clothing?

Can I say Mickey’s first wedding suit? Because he was yanking the bowtie when he came out of the dressing room and the whole thing was both literally and metaphorically was suffocating him. which was why it was so meaningful for him to get to choose his white suit (and other stuff in his second wedding), even if he had to straight-up take his and Ian’s by force ASDKFJL

Ian telling Mandy he didn’t want to starve himself to fit that golden thong was so :((( I think he also greatly regrets his job at the club, so all memories involving it are prob bad for him. rly wished the show didn’t just brush how he felt under the rug

5. What do you think their personal style says about them?

Well Mickey’s style screams thug (not necessarily king of the southside) that’s for sure

Ian’s fashion sense is very wack lmfao. I think it just means that he’s a silly goofy boy! Someone said "every cis gay millenial dude owns this shirt" under a gifset of his raglans 😭

6. What items of clothing hold most significance for them?

Didn’t Mickey personally say in 11x05 that he “loves this shirt” in response to the black shirt he was wearing, and the whole fandom agreed that it’s the same one that Ian wore to Mexico 🥺 MEANWHILE HE WAS WEARING THE FLANNEL?? THAT SPANS A WHOLE TIMELINE

And Ian’s EMT jacket def means a lot to him. Everytime I look at it I gain new waves of emotion so I can’t even imagine what he feels when he reminiscences during late nights TT

7. Do you think the way Mickey’s sense of style changed over time was to do with his relationship with Ian?

Yes, definitely. Says a lot that he was dirtier in the early seasons, like he never gave a fuck abt his appearance bc there were other things to focus on before Ian did. I can imagine Ian nuzzling Mickey’s shoulder during another one of their summertime fucks at the dugouts, so Mickey wanted to clean up nice for him without directly saying anything. And how overtime, he dressed more and more fashionable :D

8. Ian has worn a few different uniforms (ROTC, janitor, EMT, prisoner, fake EMT etc etc) over the course of the series, how do you think they made him feel?

I feel like the ROTC and EMT uniforms made him feel empowering, like he’s reaching his ambition of doing something with his life. Then the other ones like his stripper outfit as I’ve mentioned in 4, janitor, prison, fake EMT uniforms rly made him feel horrible. But I think he did grow to like his prison uniform after seeing Mickey in that white tank top all the time, maybe?

9. How does their emotional state affect their clothing choices?

It does, but I can’t necessarily find much apparent examples? But I like how in 3x09/ abandoned building, Mickey was wearing his sweater. I think sweaters and sadness definitely go together

10. We see Mickey wear colourful/Hawaiian shirts a couple of times, how do you think those types of clothes make him feel?

It makes him feel fun! The first time he clicks his tongue, does a little dance, and asks ian for his approval & the second time he lets out a “ooh!” He’s a cutie. I rly get emotional whenever Mickey gets to experience the little joys in life that he never rly got to express when he was younger. Then I get emotional for a different reason - he had a whole dream of laying in the sun with Ian in Mexico but he ended up doing it alone or not at all I’m fucking crying

11. Compare their first and last appearances, what do their outfits tell us about the characters?

They both dress more “maturely” in the last eps compared to the first ones :0c cargo jackets(?) !!!

Oh so Omegaverse Schumilton?

ok this became way too long and i didn’t want to clog up ppl’s dashes with long posts about omegaverse lol so it’s under the dash

ahh ok ok ok. so. the vibe here is. interesting. bc like. alpha lewis and alpha mick i think would be the chillest pairing ever. and alpha lewis. who is quiet and flamboyant and colourful and kind and soft. who is very much not a traditional alpha. he’s small. apart from how much he is a winner. apart from this steel hard strength in him that ppl associate with alphas. and mick who is more like an ‘normal’ alpha when you first meet him. tall and broad and strong jawed and frowning. but he laughs and hunches his shoulders and doesn’t change his smile when he’s talking to omegas or alphas or betas.

but !! alpha lewis with omega mick. so so so fascinating. like lewis who in every universe is obsessed with control and losing it but it has to be a controlled lack of control. and there’s mick. who is an alpha in every way but the way he isn’t and that doesn’t itch at him in the way that people would think (see the weight of his name being so much more suffocating). there is no hierarchy. no bullshit between them. just lewis who gives up control. gives up his body. and mick. who takes cares of him. and gets taken care of in return.

what i am trying to say is mick is a service top and sometimes. occasionally. a pillow princess depending on the mood. but very much likes taking care of people and knowing he did a good job !! gold star !!

and this i think would be the same if their designations were switched around. tho i think mick would have more anger at himself if he was an alpha. not bc alphas are necessarily ‘biologically’ angrier (bc that shit annoys the fuck out of me and is just misogyny repackaged) but bc as an alpha there are MORE expectations to be michael than there would be as an omega which you would think would annoy mick the other way but idk. he seems like someone that would bury this shit. this frustration. and he is so close to being perfect. to being who they want. and he hates that he wants that bc he doesn’t even want to be who they want. he’s not his dad and he isn’t even trying to be. and then you have lewis. lewis who is the first omega to win a wdc. let alone the first black driver to do any of this. lewis who has so many names thrown at him what’s another one. who is the exact opposite of what an omega should be and there was a while there where that stung. that itched somewhere deep and silent. (when he realised that nico would never actually be with someone like him. not really. not where everyone can see). and that hurts but he does get to a place where he’s good in himself. where he doesn’t need anyone else. let alone an alpha. but mick. mick he wants. and sometimes he thinks mick might want him back

Ok so my decision that won’t effect y’all is that I’ve come to terms that I need a break from music. Not entirely, but I feel like I’m not going anywhere vocally, I’m staying on the same level, I’m not getting better nor worse. And I’m tired of all of the cons that come with being in charge of it. Not that it’s too much to handle, it’s that I already have two other things I take really seriously and I’m not going to do something if I’ll just half ass it. If I do something than I’m committing and I’m going to make it 100% perfect. Yeah sure I worked hard to make this band, but it’s not like everything we’ve done will go away. Besides, we don’t exactly have “fans”. I mean yes, we do, but the people who come to the shows are just there to jam out bc it’s something you can bang your head too, but nobody is going because they’re a die hard fan who would have a poster of us in their room. And it sucks bc that’s what I wanted when I started it bc I had that dream of 80’s rock band that does dumb shit, I think the only thing we accomplished was doing dumb shit and letting creativity flow. I don’t think that it’s necessarily a bad thing that I’m ending it? We all kinda want to go our own ways and sprout, bc it was me who wrote all the songs so what was really the point? I don’t want to restrict anyone from letting their own flow, flow into someone else’s flow and starting a new flow, so I’m going my own flow. I have allot of reasons for this, but it feels the best option. Besides, bands you start in the high school band room…don’t ever last that long. I can already sense that we want to part ways, since everyone is kinda moving out (thank the gods that the apartment is in my name holy mother I’m not moving again in this state of economy). I’ve also already been invited to join another band on guitar so I think that it’s best for everyone to take a step further. I do feel bad, bc I don’t want it to make it seem like I’m throwing them under the bus and ditching them. But I need to take a break from writing, experimenting, and management because I’m really trying to go all out in school/work. Im done with community college so now I’m going to the “grown up school”. Im already and intern at my dream job thanks to my grades and profile, I’m glad they looked over the 1 misdemeanor in my resume 😅 IVE BEEN A GOOD BOY. Anyways, and im so fucking pissed I ended the year with 2 B’s, even if they were high. I have to be perfect no matter what, I don’t care if “oh your perfect the way you are” this and “don’t be hard on yourself” that. If you don’t give yourself a constant conflict or challenge, than how will you get stronger? If you want to pass a goal, you have to know how to! But I’m really excited for school to start again bc I think I’m the only one who actually enjoys learning now a days. And the further and better I do in college is the faster I climb up the ranks at work, I’m so close to getting my spot. I still have allot of time left tho, 9 years until I get my doctorate so ugh I’m impatient af. But either way, I’m just excited that we all get to do something with our life’s now. It’s something new, and I’ll be with new people. These guys travel in a charter bus…how did I get here?

Anyways, that’s todays ramble…and it’s just 7:40am

Thoughts on 11x01

So since I'm not watching live this season but in (my) morning, and because I want to Interact with the fandom more after my extended break, I thought I'd make just one big post about my Thoughts after each episode.

I'm going to be honest, even though I pretty much predicted that's how the cliffhanger would be resolved, I am disappointed at how it turned out. But also last season I was literally like Kelly you're about to be married, this will no doubt affect Stella too think about that !! so I'm happy that he's had that realisation now!

But other than that, the majority of the episode I ADORED!

Stella and Kelly being back after two days advhjk and Stella absolutely rocking being the badass lieutenant that she is !!!

I miss Mason tho and am still really upset he's no longer in it and that he's been replaced with an arrogant white man.

I just adore how supportive and how married stellaride are. It makes me so freaking happy and I love that my headcanon of Kelly being a wife guy is being realised. Every time he said my wife, my heart sang I swear! And them just backing each other just ugh. I love them so much. And Stella working her wife magic oh my, my heart melted!

I also liked seeing Stella in action, and trying to trust Boden's judgement about carver and giving him a chance-- and telling Boden to back off when he was overstepping a bit, especially with her recognising that carver did a good job. I don't trust carver tho, but I enjoyed the supportive stellaride scenes we got through it.

The hawkami scenes I also throughly enjoyed. With violet saying how she's in her head a bit over Evan and that's why she hasn't called him back, and Evan being such a mess without her and thinking she's done with him! I also love the growth Gallo has shown, with him learning what's happened to Evan and telling violet, I just love it. I also love that violet immediately called Evan, and I liked how she worried she missed her shot (especially with drunken Sylvie advhjk). Honestly that whole bar scene was so great and exactly the reason why I love fire. I loved mouch being the one to give violet some logic, which made her turn up at his apartment!

The apartment scene was just so cute, with Evan being like are you really here and ugh just all of it. And them being so cute in Molly's, I just love it so much. And it's made me optimistic for what's to come, for them and for Gallo.

I'm sad about brettsey, but I'm still trying to work out my feelings towards k*ra so I feel a little disconnected from all that because I really struggled to look at her. I am mad this is how they ended brettsey and that they brought Kyle back in to help Sylvie realise what she had to do, that was just unnecessary. And I don't like what they're doing to her character, but I'm disconnected from my anger over it because I honestly don't want k*ra on my screen so that's overshadowing my feelings on the character.

I don't know how I necessarily feel towards Kelly pushing to get the dirty cop exposed, even though I get it, but I liked the bonding it helped stellaride do bc I love those two.

And I just adored the ending of them curled up together adcgjk they're such physical people and ugh, I love it.

In conclusion, I am really excited for this season and for more stellaride and hawkami! And I'd love to hear others thoughts so don't hesitate to send me an ask if you want to.

#serious answer for last time i cried is my eyes got all watery when i had my m.egumi&t.sumiki breakdown on friday #but actual full on crying? it's probably been since junior year of high school #my body basically stopped producing tears (at least enough for them to actually fall) sometime in middle school but it's fine #tag game #also we can forget about my cheerleader days. it was a dark time. i only did it bc my friends were #one of the parents DID buy our team all snowcones after a game once tho so honestly? worth it just for that #wait also i won the spirit stick award one year...... i literally don't know why but i do still have it
