Things I DO want for him:

A fucking hug. A long hug he enjoys and reciprocates.

A good cry. Ideally while being hugged.

A return of apocalypse/Commission PTSD.

Recognition for what he did from his family and an apology for all the times they blamed him. (A symbolic apology is fine, as long as the regret is mutually understood).

Or, failing 4, someone outside the family who he can rely on for emotional support and them not turn out to be a baddie.

Continuing to remember Dolores fondly and not tolerating people talking badly about her.

A nice place to call his own. A little habitat with books, a comfy chair and a way to write all over the walls without ruining them.

Self esteem based in acknowledgment of himself as a flawed being and not just the arrogance he attempts to pass off as self esteem.

Things I DON'T want for him:

Retirement. By all means give him peace, but I don't think retirement would do him any good in the end. He needs something to do, just give him something low stress but meaningful.

Dolores. Sorry girl, I love you, but Five needs to heal. I think even a 'Reggie did Five a solid and programmed in human-Dolores' storyline would represent a regression in Five's emotional development.

To sacrifice himself for his family and/or the world. (Unfortunately, I think this would work narratively and fit the character so... 😕)

A timeskip and partial university setting looks quite likely from what I've seen, so I don't want any implication that Five's sleeping with college-aged people under the guise he's their age. A joke would be fine, but only if it's made clear it's not actually happening and never will.

For any character development of his to be symbolised by him choosing a name. Five is Five. He doesn't need a symbolic blank slate, he needs to live with the legacy of who he is and overcome it.

the announcement i can’t speak to but honestly i would be shocked if taylor did a surprise drop of 1989 rather than a full promo rollout. it’s true that she really glazed over sntv but we all know that album is not her fav and if i’m being generous i could maybe blame it on touring. but if she DOES announce 1989tv this week or next then it would be the perfect time since tour is slowing down, and i fully believe she would want to do that because 1989 is HER BABY! although her success has eclipsed it now, 1989 was a behemoth of an album and a true two year Event. it was her first taste of the sort of massive pop star success that is now just commonplace when associated with her. not to mention how it’s beloved as an album to the public and produced so many singles that also happen to be some of her biggest hits. i think the rollout will be more similar to redtv’s than anything else (if not even bigger) so a surprise release isn’t something i can see happening

Though this SNL skit was imho tone deaf and poorly-timed given current events in the Middle East, nonetheless, the subjects of mockery in the skit are not the innocent victims of this horrific violence and bloodshed, but rather the terrorist organization which ignited the war between Israel and Palestine on October 7, and the comedy group Please Don’t Destroy, who wrote and portray characters in the skit.

I would hope that most reasonable people can agree that terrorist organizations are evil and must be defeated to prevent them from carrying out their horrific crimes on vulnerable populations.

🚨 Spoiler Alert 🚨

In the skit, a failed aspiring musician played by Timothée Chalamet intends to end his misery from a tall building but is stopped by three men (Please Don’t Destroy) who attempt to talk him out of his plan from the street. In the course of their short conversation, the despondent musician is horrified to realize that he’s inadvertently called his band the same name as a terrorist organization: “HAY-muss … H-A-M-A-S”.

When an exciting opportunity arises while still standing on the ledge, in his excitement, his only hope of achieving success literally slips through his fingers. PDD offers to help him out by playing his music on SNL, but he rejects their offer, preferring instead to carry out his plan, as implied in the final scene.

That’s it. That’s the joke.

Objectivity is fundamental in discovering the truth about anything, especially when tragedy looms large and emotions run high. I’m sharing this perspective not to excuse anyone’s choices but hopefully to provide clarity where it might be helpful, in order to make an informed decision.

What feels like justifiable moral outrage might actually be a response to the unbearable weight of grief and despair. With that in mind, let’s give each other time and space, as applicable, to process this horrific situation in the Middle East in the ways that make sense for us and which do not cause additional harm to anyone or add to the ugliness of the world in its current state.

Because literally nobody asked at all, here are some scent-related idle musings that may or may not qualify as headcanons:

Sephiroth doesn't wear fragrances per se, but there's a reason he uses thirteen out of the fourteen different scent options of his favorite line of shampoos, and the reason is the fourteenth one makes him sneeze all day even if he likes how it smells.

Genesis is rather picky about apple notes, so he actually doesn't wear many fragrances that include them. But when he finds one that works for him, he sticks with it. Apart from that, he has very broad tastes. Sometimes he puts on the rawest, dirtiest, most polarizing thing he can find, but sometimes he smells like the color pink.

Angeal would like to content himself with rubbing fresh herbs on his wrists and neck for special occasions, but he gets Genesis' point about how quickly the scent fades (plus he doesn't like hurting his babies except to eat them), so he accepts occasional gifts of fragrance with grace. Please don't tell him how much it cost.

Zack's first and last adventure with fragrances involved him spraying exactly one cologne perfume onto a test strip, smelling it, and saying out loud in the middle of a crowded, very fancy department store, "It smells like ass but in a good way?" in complete bewilderment.

Kunsel occasionally dabbles in samples of extremely niche and conceptual stuff, the weirder the better. One day, he gets forcibly sent through the hazmat decon booth for smelling, literally rather than figuratively, like the moon.

Lazard prefers discreet scents that only reveal themselves to him and to those who get up close and personal. His secretary, who has a lot of allergies, appreciates this very much.

Aerith doesn't need a product to smell like flowers. (Or dirt!) She does like nice soap, though, and when she has a chance to splurge, she goes for green or marine scents. Sea salt soap is so exotic to her! Does the ocean really smell like that?

Tifa dreams of having nice perfumes and fancy soap but the only thing available in Nibelheim is a tiny selection of trashy stuff at a huge import markup. Yuck! When she does get her hands on the goods, she is baffled to find that what she thought she'd like (airy flowers and tropical fruits) is not at all what she actually likes (dark leather and darker booze).

Cloud is—say it with him, folks!—not interested.

I felt the need to come here and sort of explain my absence/lack of presence as of late. I know it's not necessary, but there's people on here that I used to communicate with daily and it's been awhile since I've really talked to anyone.

I lost someone very close to me. It was both expected and a surprise at the same time. I've allowed myself time to fall apart and grieve over the fact that one of the people who raised me is no longer in this world.

Sometimes I still feel like it's not real, and other times I can feel myself mentally shutting down and letting myself drown in apathy, so I'm making myself come back and participate in social life again.

Ateez and The Boyz have been helping me (or more like killing me bc shirtless tbz wth??) get through this weird period, and I miss being a little fangirling freak, so here I am, baby.

okay maybe this is the optimistic naivete of someone who's only been reading comics seriously for a few years but I'm actually not super pissed about kamala's death and resurrection and reclassification as a mutant? which doesn't seem to be the general consensus (and that's fine) but I wanted to insert my two cents somewhere and I have a blog (pretty sure that's what it's for?) so it'll be here. anyway.

yeah. x-men comics have an obnoxiously long-standing history of focusing on the wolverines and cyclopses and professors x instead of a myriad of other interesting and compelling characters (wiz-kid my beloved) and it's fucking annoying and I don't want that to happen to kamala. and I don't think that's what's happening anyway. especially considering she's already been a side character in amazing spider-man for 16 issues. if this were the next step in sidelining her they wouldn't have made it a huge event and put so much work into showing the champions and avengers mourning her.

furthermore, kamala's story has always been about reconciling these different facets of her identity. pakistani muslim, american teenage superhero, inhuman and avenger, good daughter and good friend and good person. tossing another thing into the mix isn't going to cheapen her experience. it's another label for her to struggle with, another culture for her to determine how much she is a part of. there will be mutants who hate her because she's an inhuman, just like there are americans who hate her because she's muslim. and there will be mutants who say she's not mutant enough. ms marvel isn't publicly muslim, but everything she does will be shadowed by the political implications of a mutant doing those things. and maybe it's just me, but I'm excited to see her go toe-to-toe with scott and emma and xavier, especially in the aftermath of magneto's death. she's a compelling and interesting and beloved character, one of the stars of marvel's current hero roster, and I highly doubt they'd waste the time, energy, and money on such an overhaul just to sideline her as another oft-ignored x-man (especially with fall of x looming in the horizon like an expensive stormfront). if it turns out I'm wrong, I'll absolutely riot with the rest of the affronted kamala khan fans. but for now I might actually be a little excited to see how her status as a mutant goes and what that means for her identity and the mutant narrative as a whole. and I'm definitely excited to see iman vellani co-write this, because I really liked her portrayal of ms marvel in the show and her enthusiasm for all things superhero is infectious! and I would absolutely prefer any and all superhero actors be this invested in the characters they portray.

tl;dr: I feel like kamala being a mutant might actually be interesting and relevant and not the condemnation to background-character-dom everyone seems to think it is. and if I'm wrong I'll be pissed but personally I believe at least iman vellani herself is in touch with kamala's experience, identity, and popularity as a character.
