Butterflies
Requested by anon: Hey love, if you’re up for writing some Kol Mikaelson then could you do one where it’s set before they’re vampires and Kol’s still a witch and fancies a village girl at the time. Just lots of innocent fluff between reader and Kol, and it being a really adorable relationship. Maybe they’re even promised to marry.
Pairing: Witch/Pre-Vampire!Kol Mikaelson x Female!Reader
Warnings: Fluff, me not proof-reading
Words: 1,733
Summary: (See Request)
Note: I may’ve strayed from the request, I’m not sure, it feels like I did but I also just convince myself random things quite a lot- Anyways, I hope you guys like it and I hope, whomever requested this, that you got what you wanted (meaning I hope you like it 😅)! and, historical error, i have no idea when rings n stuff were a thing

Y/n walked through the woodsy forest stealthily, reminding herself to not give into her urge to run as the branches already snapped under her feet. Sneaking out was the easy task; managing to stay out was a little more advanced. However, by now, Y/n was a pro. She snuck out almost every night.
As did Kol. Their parents approved a great deal of their relationship, but that didn’t prevent them from wanting to spend more time with one another. During the day, Y/n was usually busy helping Esther gather herbs and food or helping her mother in whatever chores she had. Kol was either helping around, practicing witchcraft, or doing whatever he wanted.
Most of the time, one would be doing work and the other would be watching from a distance, always with a smile on their face. If one got hurt, the other would be there within a second, by their side and asking if they needed anything. Hugs and kisses, other forms of PDA included, were exchanged whenever possible; a day where there wasn’t work, a small break, passing each other while heading to wherever they were going.
Villagers, both children and parents, spoke of the two in adoration. Couples and people who weren’t spoken for often expressed a slight envy mixed in with their thoughts of admiration for the two.
They were whispered about even as children. A girl, born unto a human family, and a boy, born unto a family mixed of witches and humans, always near each other. The people of the town would be lying if they claimed they weren’t rooting for the Kol and Y/n. Now becoming a man and a woman, and having expressed their feelings, the gossip of the two only grew.
But as soon as the sun said goodbye and the moon, with it’s twinkling children, said hello, they were together as much as they wanted. Even so, it wasn’t the kind of sneaking out one would expect from two love-struck village kids. The couple, innocent to the public, had nothing to hide.
“Y/n?” Kol whispered. She followed his voice until her form met a chest. It was warm, and the arms connected to the torso wrapped around her softly. “There you are.”
She pushed him slightly, giving herself enough room to pull his head into hers for a long-needed kiss. As their lips molded together, stress from the day left their bodies. Much to their displeasure, they had to separate in order to breathe. “What are we going to do tonight?”
Kol pulled away from her completely and turned to retrieve a torch he’d prepared. He returned with a wide smile upon his lips, now visible in the orange-yellow-mixture colored flames.
“You’ll see.” From there, he grabbed Y/n’s hand with his free one and started to lead her to a surprise location. The further they got, the more Y/n recognized the path. It was no surprise location at all. It was the little fort they’d set up many years before.
It’s wooden base and walls still held, tied together by enchanted twine and other building materials they could find in the nature around them. Back then, Y/n and all the Mikaelson children would play in it, but now, it was just her and Kol. It seemed like they were the only ones who even remembered it. But Kol didn’t have a problem with that; he rather liked having it to Y/n and himself.
“Sit,” He opened the door and gestured to one of the chairs, “you’re going to love this.”
“Am I?” Although Y/n’s question held the meaning of doubt, her laughter showed her genuine reaction.
“Eh... Okay...I hope you’ll love this..” Kol closed the door behind him and sat in the chair opposite to Y/n. He grabbed a small pouch and poured it’s contents into his hand. Y/n moved her head in an attempt to see what the bag had held, but Kol flashed her knowing grin. He shook his head and held his hand close to his chest until she moved back.
Slowly, he breathed in and out, focusing into what he was doing. His hand opened carefully. With a small smirk at Y/n, he wordlessly told her he was ready; the golden dust began to glow as it formed a butterfly and flew around Y/n, causing her to giggle.
It landed on her nose and flapped it’s wings softly. She stayed still, not wanting to scare the beautiful creature off despite it being magic rather than a real butterfly. She’d never seen one up close; so she relished in the moment with the faux version.
Whilst Y/n was distracted with his magic-trick, Kol dug through his bag as quietly, yet quickly, as he could. The frantic look on his face was replaced by a loving smile when he found the item he’d been searching for.
The butterfly made up of golden dust flew away from Y/n, still holding her in a trance; her eyes following it as it fluttered about. It crumbled back into dust and landed on the ring Kol held between his thumb and pointer finger.
“What is that?” She was stunned by both the magical creature and the ring it just helped create.
“It’s...a gift. From me to you...well...it’s not that simple.” Kol’s ring held a miniature version of the butterfly. “I want to ask you something.”
Y/n was truly entranced by the ring, but she still functioned nevertheless. Her head snapped up and her eyes doubled in size. “You’re kidding.”
A small chuckle escaped Kol, “No, my love, I am not.” His lips parted to speak once more, but a tackle knocked him off his chair and the words out of his throat. They both laughed loudly, thanking their past selves for asking the town witch for a silencing spell. The look she gave them all made them choke on their own laughter.
His arms wrapped around her torso and held her closer to him. The sound of her giggles and the feeling of her smile against the crook of his neck sent shivers down his back and multiple little golden butterflies to his stomach.
Though their laughter had ceased, their contact remained. Neither of them had separated from the other. They stayed there for a bit. It just felt right. Their intimacy felt right. The feeling of their hearts beating rapidly in their chest felt right. Their smiles felt right. Their refusal to part felt right. The entire night just felt right.
Eventually, they did end up parting, only it felt like hours had passed. Y/n stood up and pulled Kol up with her. He opened his hand and reached for her left one with his unoccupied hand.
“We’ve fancied each other for a while...” Kol studied her face, watching for any negative facial expressions. “Tonight, I brought you here to ask you the question that’s been on my mind nonstop, preventing me from doing any work aside from spells like that,” he referenced the butterfly, “and others I’ve made up for you.”
“You made that up?”
The youngest Mikaelson looked down shyly. “Yes.”
“It was beautiful!” Her exclamation was quiet and soft, but still all there.
“I’ve never been more distracted in my life. And as my mother had to be the one to point it out to me; I suppose if you say yes, I owe her a great deal of gratitude.” He scoffed through a failed attempt of preventing the corners of his mouth from lifting. “So. With this ring, gifted to me by my mother, and it’s magical components, which I’ll explain, I ask you, Y/n L/n, to...become a Mikaelson?”
Y/n nodded eagerly, allowing him time to slip the ring on her finger before surging forward and crashing their lips together. Her arms wrapped behind his head, one hand holding the nape of his neck, and his own holding her waist against his body firmly.
The butterflies in their stomachs that danced around happily had no effect on them now. They became good-feelings, feelings that let them know their love was still alive and thriving.
Y/n and Kol ended up cuddling to sleep, the night still innocent and pure as they discussed their future whilst laying on the sloppily-crafted-bed in the fort. The two agreed that one day, whenever it came, they’d marry and have children. Kol didn’t hesitate when it was his turn.
His tone expressed his excitement as he explained how he wanted to teach little witches how to use their magic and to clean after themselves to spare their mother the trouble.
Kol’s smile held as he finished his story of wishes, watching Y/n fidget with the band on her finger. “You want to know what the magic is for now?” She nodded. “So, the butterfly appears when I’m near. It’s spelled to sense me, as well as you.”
“Why me?”
He grew nervous, but continued, “Well...like we were discussing. If we were to have children, it would sense them too, and the butterfly would show.”
“Smart.” Y/n glanced at Kol. Though her responses were short, she made sure to reassure him in whatever ways she could. Spending years with him, Y/n learned to notice when he was hiding something; be it emotion or other things.
“Thank you, darling. I have to say, it was inspired by my fear of losing you.” He felt her head, which was lying on his shoulder, turn towards his and continued speaking out of embarrassment. “That’s a story for another day. The butterfly turns into a normal looking knot in the ring when I’m not near.”
She glanced at her ring and bit her lip. “I love it. But...I do have one question.”
“Yes?”
“How would you be able to know when I’m around?”
Kol chuckled and played with the necklace hidden under his tunic. It’s charm was a matching butterfly, no detail differing from her ring. “Already ahead of you, love.”
“And why the butterflies?”
He paused. “Well...uh...” Red flooded the witch’s face, his smile growing, “I thought it should be something important. And um... You, my dear, give me butterflies. Their happy little wings fluttering about in my stomach. How do you do it?” His smile showed his sarcasm, already having knowledge of the answer. He couldn’t even hide it. He could not hide it and he didn’t care, for it was the butterflies that would not let him.

She wondered what The Keep was like. She knew for a damn fact it didn’t look anything at all like the hotel she was so familiar with. How long had he been just down the hall? Would he have let her in if she knocked while the moon was still at its highest? That thought and those very similar burned through her as she scrubbed herself clean with restless hands. It felt so strange. All of it.
It wasn’t that she hadn’t noticed the way Evil Uno seemed to gravitate toward her. Around her. When had it started? Had it been when she cleared her throat and pointed out that his mouth was bloody after a losing effort. It had made the teeth of his mask particularly intimidating and she had told him as much. She hadn’t seen him laugh before then. Funnily enough, she had wondered if the Dark Order was allowed to. Another thought she dryly shared with Evil Uno while her gloved hands carefully prodded the fullness of his bottom lip. It was hard with the mask but she made it work as he looked at her. Try as she might not to blush, she had. Like mad. Another laugh had rolled through him.
Why her, she didn’t know, but she did know that Mr. Brodie Lee’s tone was hard to doubt. If she kept overthinking it, she had a feeling she might burn her brain out. She looked at herself in the mirror. The fog of her shower distorted her image. Even then, she took in a deep breath. She would never find out if she didn’t ask and fuck, she wanted to ask.
The hotel hallway was thankfully empty as she walked down it, her steps muted by her slippers. She double-checked the number and squared her shoulders back.
One knock, then two.
Her stomach squirmed but she held strong. Held it together as the seconds ticked by. Had Mr. Brodie tricked her? She didn’t want to believe it but the silence had her doubting. She tapped her fingertips together and turned to the side. The hallway seemed longer. Darker.
The door opened and her head snapped back at the sound of her name. He was still in his ring attire, much to her surprise. The wraps around his wrists were loose and the black around his eyes was smudged.
“Hi,” she breathed out. The only precursor to the way her jumbled words poured out of her. “I talked to Mr. Brodie. Or, well, he talked to me. After the...What happened. And he said you wanted a-and that I wanted and well--”
She hadn’t realized she was shaking until his hand closed around her wrist and her nerves ceased. Or maybe it was because he was shaking too.
“Come in,” he said. His eyes searched her face. “Please.”
The door shut behind her and she looked. Evil Uno let go of her wrist and turned away from her. He began to pace, his hands behind his back. Her tongue ran along her bottom lip. He had something on his mind and she wasn’t going to interrupt. He stopped a foot away from her.
“He told you that I wanted you.”
Speechless, she nodded. He inhaled sharply through his nose and rolled his neck before he looked at her again.
“Do you want me?”
She held his eyes. Nodded once more.
"And you want me?"
Gently, her back pressed against the door as he came towards her. She looked up at him. He didn’t cage her in. He only looked at her. Any words she had up and left the instant he ducked his head to speak into her ear.
“Yes," he said in almost a whisper. "Do you trust me?”
She swallowed. Found the one word she was absolutely certain of.
“Yes.”
He parted from her for only a second. A piece of purple cloth wound around his fingers and he asked her again if she trusted him. Certain that she did, he brought the fabric around her eyes and gently tipped her head forward to knot it at the back. As it went dark, she reached out to him only for him to meet her halfway. His fingertips skimmed up her arm and goosebumps followed them. Then his hand was gone and she heard what sounded like fabric being dropped.
His mouth against her jawline, the slight coarseness of his facial hair against her skin, told her what it was that had dropped. His mouth pressed against her and her head tilted back as she gasped. He breathed her in as his hands gripped her hips and pulled her in towards him. Tight but not tight enough to hurt. Her tongue teased into his mouth and when he groaned into her, she swore she would never forget the sound.
With ease, he lifted her up and pressed her back into the door. His mouth never left hers as he guided her legs around him. She didn’t need direction to tighten them around him. Her body did it on her own. His mouth was persistent against hers and when he finally let up, he took in a heavy breath.
“You’re fucking beautiful,” he said against her neck, as if he murmured it into the thrum of her very pulse. A finger trailed up the warm skin of her chest that her loose shirt bared. She could feel the slight tug of her new necklace against the back of her neck. He kissed against the corner of her mouth and she pressed further into him. “This looks good on you. I had a feeling it would.”
He gently nipped at her bottom lip and when she smiled, he smiled against her. His laugh was quiet but no less deep.
“Maybe I’ll look better. Can I…?”
He effortlessly took them away from the door and instinctively, her arms went around his neck. The hotel bed bounced some as he set her down. It was odd. Not being able to see him. But the thrill that raced through her when his fingers gripped the hem of her shirt and started to tug upward distracted her. Fuck, she didn’t mind it. It wasn’t hard to imagine his eyes. She had looked at them so often, so deeply, that they were in front of her in spite of the blindfold.
He paused when she ran a hand through the hair on his chest. She continued up his neck before she cupped his jaw. The muscle of it worked underneath her touch. She hoped it was enough to convey what it was her mouth struggled to say. His hand briefly against her own told her that it had.
Then his hand was gone.
The clasp in the center of her chest popped open. His large hands slid under the loose cups of her bra. Blunt nails then smooth fingertips against her nipples pulled a gasp from her and he was there to swallow it. His hands squeezed her flesh for a moment before he guided her back against the bed. She stretched her arms overhead and she felt the bed dip by her knees as he swore. She heard a zipper and knew his vest had been tossed aside too.
One nipple was enveloped by the warmth of his mouth and she bucked up into him. She was a taut wire. Something on fire. Something so alive, she shook with it. And he had barely touched her. He chuckled as he pulled away and blew cold air against it. Her hand found the back of his head and as she guided him to her other breast, he went eagerly. His fingers pulled at the nipple his mouth wasn’t occupied with. Every sound she made pulled one out of him.
“Uno, please,” she gasped out. She was desperate for friction. His teeth gently closed around a nipple before he pulled away. His mouth trailed up her chest, her neck, before his teeth gently found her earlobe. Her legs tightened around him. The weight of him against her was incredible but it wasn’t enough. “I want you. I do. God, I do. Ever since I saw you.”
A tremor ran through him. He was struggling as much as she was.
“Me too. But how?” His rough was rough. “How do you want me?”
She found her mouth with his and returned the favor of gently biting into his bottom lip.
“I want this,” she said as she pulled away. Her thumb traced his bottom lip. Her hips pressed up against his. “Please.”
He moved down her body and hooked his fingers into the waistband of her leggings. He moved slow, one leg then the other, and by the time he licked a stripe along the inside of her thigh, she was panting. His lips pressed against her damp front for only a moment before he pulled off her underwear. Her hips rolled when he took her knees in hand and pushed them back.
She had seen how...active he was with his tongue in the ring but it didn’t hold a candle to the way he teased her with it. The texture of it in the dark had her nearly twisting. His strength kept her legs from closing around him and pushing him in further. It was infuriating. It was fantastic. Just when her frustration seemed ready to peak, he gave her what she wanted with a groan of his own. He slid one thick finger and then another into her. Curled them up as his tongue curled around her clit.
“Right there,” she moaned out. “You’re doing so, so good.”
The way his tongue rolled, the way his lips pulled against her, it was hard to catch her breath. She teased her own nipples, tugged and pulled. Her head fell back against the bed.
“I’m--”
He pulled away from her and she could feel his gaze wander up the length of her.
“I know.”
He dove back in and in the time of a three count, she came. She moaned loud, her body taught as he coaxed her through it. Lazy kisses trailed up her sweat slicked torso. With shaky arms, she lifted herself up to press up against the solid weight of him. She tasted herself on him when he licked into her mouth.
“I want to be with you,” she said. There was a power in the way he moved with her so that he was the one flat on his back. Her hands slowed their shaking as she carefully stripped him down to be as bare as her. Only once did she lose her balance and he was there to right her, her hand pressed to his chest. He breathed in when she wrapped her hand around him and lightly squeezed. His hips bucked up into her hand. “One with you. Fuck, where did you come from? I want all of you.”
He murmured where he kept his condoms and took in a heavy breath as she slid one onto him. Blindfolded, she moved slowly. Carefully. Ghosted her fingertips across where she wanted to go. Each time, he shuddered. He helped her as she came to kneel over him, his fingers laced with hers. Slowly, she sat down on him and moaned as he started to press in. A light choking sound wheezed out of him and she smiled, her teeth sunken into her bottom lip. Once her hips were kissed fully against his, she slightly wound her hips. His free hand flew to grip the meat of her thigh.
The sound he made when she began to rise and fall against him was incredible. She nearly came again the instant she had heard it. He was ruthless, conniving in the ring, but with her, he moved in tandem. Didn’t push, gladly took a part in what she was willing to give. Rolled with her as she did. The Dark Order emblem thumped against her chest rhythmically as she moved. She had never been one for praise really, but as they moved together, she took to it well.
A hand came up to squeeze her breast.
When her legs began to shake, he turned her onto her back and set her ankles against his shoulders. The position sent a spark up her spine that had her shuddering against him. Each movement jostled a moan out of her and he kissed her like it was the only thing he wanted to do.
“You look incredible like this,” he panted as he moved within her. One particularly deep thrust had her toes curling and her walls spasming. “I think I was right but you, oh, the way you fucking looked up there. Never going to forget it.”
Her head fell back and slightly jostled the blindfold. She could almost see but then it was dark again as his shadow fell over her. The solid weight of him against her had her keening out for him. Of all things, she felt safe. His hips stuttered against hers and he slowed.
“I won’t--I have to come.”
“Come with me?”
At those three words from her, he was back at it, the sound of their skin against one another’s white noise that their moans periodically broke through. Her voice keened loud and low as her back arched. She tightened around him and bit into the meat of his shoulder as she came. He yelled out and buried his face into her hair as he pressed in as deep as he could. He slightly pulled out, just the tip inside, and pressed back in as her body spasmed. French was murmured into the moist skin of her neck when he finally slowed to a stop inside her. Was this what he had meant? About being one? Her head spun, her pulse fluttered.
His chest heaved against hers as they simply breathed together. He dragged his mouth across her jaw, her cheekbones. Then, it was on hers. Taking what little breath she still had left. He was careful to not collapse his weight onto her frame as he pulled out of her and she found she missed him. He rested his forehead against her shoulder and breathed.
“Stay with me?”
He picked his head up and pulled the blindfold off. She felt his weight press down to the right of her. The door was to her left. Even without the blindfold, the room was pitch dark. He must have turned the light off. Still, she knew his eyes. Could tell that his warm brown gaze was fixated on her. She turned on the sheets and curled into the warmth he offered as they caught their breath together.
“Hell, as much I am with them now,” she started. “I’m one with you.”

This Can’t Be True • John Stones
Here we go for another day, this is another long long one so enjoy it. This contains a sensitive topic such as death mention so I understand if you won’t read it.
You feel a little weight on your body as you wake up and sigh, almost unconsciously holding onto John.
"Good morning" he whispers in your ear with his hoarse voice, leaving a kiss underneath it and holding you a little longer.
"Morning" you sigh by sinking your head into the pillow as you can but he rolls on his back on the mattress carrying you on him. You complain about the sudden change of position and he giggles, making his bare chest vibrate beneath you.
"Come on, you said you'd get up"
"I hate you" you murmur making his chest vibrate again.
"You said you'd say that too" then you mumble something incomprehensible by pressing your hand on the mattress and lifting your torso from his body.
"I hate you, I mean it" you narrow your eyes making your best threatening face as he shakes his head getting up, a smile always on his face.
But you're quick to jump on his back and wrap your arms and legs around his chest, "That's not true, I love you" you murmur with your face buried in his shoulder and he takes a few steps towards the mirror before stopping.
"I love you too" he looks at your reflection for a few seconds before you start your day and prepare for the different things you have to do that day.
With his suit he is ready to go to practice, and he approaches you wearing your watch in front of the dresser and smiles at you in the mirror before helping you with the necklace and leaving a kiss on your neck.
You're wearing a blue blouse and fancy pants, an important meeting in a few hours that requires a certain outfit and looking at you you are so different now. But you can't be more alike.
You and John have been married for less than two months, still in the honeymoon phase that you postponed waiting for the end of John's football commitments. And honestly it doesn't weigh on you because you have that ring on your finger now and every day you spend with him at home is a constant holiday.
"I've got to go" he says, holding you close but not letting you go.
"Okay" you sigh as you turn towards him and your heels give you a few more inches so you don't have to get up on your toes to kiss him.
"Remember, I have to do something with Kyle so I'll come back later, okay?"
"Okay, I'll see you when you get back" you smile and he smiles before taking your hand and leaving a kiss on your ring before he leaves for good.
You go to your meeting a few minutes later, as usual they require punctuality they don't have. But it's best not to point it out to them since you'd like to keep your job. This goes between useless speeches and pauses and presentations that seem endless and eventually they free you.
You check your watch and hurry out of that building because you have somewhere else to stop before you go home.
"I know, I know I'm late. Sorry, they held me up" you apologize to the guy who's closing the door of his car while you're holding a box in your arms and your shoulder strap could fall off at any moment.
He comes to help you so you can open the front door and you smile at him, "Thank you Kevin"
"Put it there please" you point to the table in the living room while you take off your shoes and tell him you'll be right back, you really need to take off those work clothes now.
When you come down wearing John's sweatshirt and suit pants, Kevin is already rummaging through the contents of the box and gets a little scared when he hears your voice.
"So you're sure John's not coming home right now?"
"He was busy with Kyle, don't worry.  And then you're here, practice is long over so" you shrug while he agrees with you.
"So, how's the situation?"
"Well, it's two weeks away but I've already ordered the cake and I only have a few people to warn and... I think John doesn't suspect anything" you comment unrolling a banner and checking that everything is perfectly written.
"Good. The club confirmed, they said we can bring our stuff in a few days before and tell them how to fix everything"
"Perfect"
"Are you sure you don't want to get into a giant cake with a sexy outfit for your groom?" he mocks you again as you roll your eyes giggling lightly, shifting your attention to the phone that started vibrating.
You answer even though it's not a number you have in your contacts, your job involves receiving calls from strangers even quite frequently.
The carefree expression on your face suddenly disappears however, Kevin literally sees your face lose colour and is immediately close to you wondering who is on the phone. You answer the person on the other side as if you were an automaton, on the outside you may look calm but inside you are completely chaotic and you can't think clearly.
"John" you murmur as soon as you hang up, the look lost somewhere while Kevin looks at you worried and alert in case you faint. But still he makes you sit in the chair next to him, wondering what's going on.
"John" you whisper again, "i-it was the hospital they said he had an accident and he-he" you can only explain while your hands are shaking and you grab your cell phone, but it falls on the table making a deafening noise.
"Kyle! He said he was with Kyle" you murmur frantically as Kevin covers your hands with one of his.
"I'll do it, I'll call him" you see him pick up his phone and take it to his ear but it's like you're experiencing something extra corporeal because you can't hear the guy talking. His lips are moving, but your ears don't get a sound.
He squeezes your hand again and he doesn't have his phone to his ear, "What's wrong?"
"He said he's not with him. He-he didn't see him after practice"
Trying not to show how much the news has upset you, you get up and head for the car keys on the cabinet.
"What do you want to do? No, I'll drive you come on" Kevin is right in front of you, taking your keys away, and you just nod off to the door and wait for him to follow you.
You don't know where to go. You're not a hospital lover and fortunately you've never needed to go in there for yourself or anyone you know, they look like mazes and all that white just adds to the sense of disorientation in those corridors that all look the same.
You ask for information at the front desk and the nurse looks at you sorry when you tell her why you are there, before sending you in the right direction. Reading all the signs on the way, your heart begins to beat faster as a larger sign on a door tells you that you are there. Your legs almost give way, but you have to be strong as you keep repeating yourself.
Kevin keeps watching you, you haven't said a word since you got in the car and he doesn't want to force you. The situation is delicate though, and he doesn't know if it's more appropriate for you to call someone, maybe a member of your family.
The doctor who comes to meet you explains what happened. Apparently there was a head-on collision between two cars and the people involved did not make it. They need to get an ID from the person closest to the victim, it's procedure, and since you're his wife, it's up to you.
He takes you to a room where there is a window hidden by a curtain, the doctor tells you to take as much time as you want and you stare at that grey shutter in terror. Until you nod your head.
The doctor then goes a few steps away, knocks on that glass and the curtain goes up. It only takes you a few seconds to turn around and bury your face in Kevin's chest. The boy holds you in his arms as warm tears finally start streaming down your cheeks.
That's not him. An entire brick house is moving away from your heart and your stomach at the same time, it's not him.
"It's not him" you whisper as the doctor pulls the curtain down and takes you out of that room.
You can't stop crying while the doctor apologizes for the unnecessary scare he caused you and as before, it's Kevin talking to him.
"Why... why did you think he was my husband?" you wonder. You want to know what's going on. Because apparently John lied to you and you really want to try and figure it out and know where he's at this point.
"The police told us the car is registered to his name and his wallet and phone were also found inside it"
You look Kevin disoriented, how did that day when you were supposed to take care of the final details for John's birthday party end up like that?
And you come home, the boy walks you to the door where Kyle's waiting for you. You hold him close to you and some tears slip from your eyes as he takes the keys out of your hands and opens the door for you. All three of you enter the house in silence, interrupted only by you sniffing and trying to get yourself into a clear head.
"Where is he, Kyle?" you ask coldly, but your voice is shaking. You're on the couch, your back slightly forward and your elbows on your knees while your hands are joined together and your thumbs go to massage your temples.
"I don't know" he replies and your head snaps up so you can look him in the eye.
"Please, I don't care where he is. I just want to know if he's okay"
"I don't know, really. All I know is that he had something to do and asked me to cover him up" he admits as he lowers his gaze at the end and a tear falls on your cheek, ending up undisturbed all the way to your neck.
"I have to call the police" you murmur as you reach into your pockets for your phone.
"Maybe we should wait a little longer, normally-"
"He's out there who knows where, alone, with no ID or phone. You're crazy if you think I won't do anything"
"It's not what I'm saying, but they won't do anything until 24 hours after he disappeared"
"Then we'll go out and look for him. Guys, I can't-" but your sentence is interrupted by the door opening.
John walks into the living room and doesn't even have time to see you actually there, that you're on to him. He takes a few steps backwards caught off guard, sticking his hands under your butt so you don't fall over while you're crying on his shoulder.
"Hey what happened?" he murmurs softly caressing your head and leaving a few kisses on your temple. You keep crying without giving him an answer, happy to see him apparently safe and sound.
Then your legs give way and then he gently slides you down, holding you by your hips until he's sure your feet are firmly on the ground.
"Hey" he repeats again, taking your face in his hands, "What happened?" but you shake your head between the sobs, you can't speak, so he asks the question again but to his friends.
The two of them look at each other before nodding and Kyle tells him to sit down first, so he sits on the couch carrying you down with him and holding you.
"Where were you?" your voice comes muffled to his ears before either one of them can say anything and John sighs.
"It doesn't matter now, I want to know what happened here now"
"Yes, it does! I had to go and recognize a dead body because they thought it was you!" you hit him in the chest while he opens his eyes wide, "And for crying out loud I couldn't find you John and you weren't with Kyle! So I need to know where you were and I want to know now"
He holds you in his arms again, an incredulous expression on his face as he glances at the two boys in the room as if looking for confirmation.
"I'm sorry love, I'm so sorry. I just wanted to surprise you so I asked Kyle to cover for me, then a woman was assaulted and I stepped up to defend her and this guy ran off with my car. I was at the police station until now to file a report"
"Oh my god, so he robbed you and then he... died?" you look him in the eye while he puts his thumb on your still wet cheek and then shrugs.
"I guess so"
The boys just stay a few more minutes to make sure you're both okay before they decide to leave you alone. You hug them both thanking them for being near you, the red one in particular, before closing the door and returning into John's arms. His gentle touch and heartbeat calm you instantly, but you can't help but think back to everything that happened in such a short time.
The situation has helped to make you understand even more that it's with him that you want to spend the rest of your life, in his arms, and if something happens to him you are not ready to let him go yet. You haven't experienced anything of your love story yet and it scares you to know that your life could really change on any given day. You don't know how you'd react if he was actually on that table.
"Me and the guys are throwing a surprise party for your birthday" you murmur suddenly and you're not looking at him but you can feel his smile as he leaves a kiss on your head.
"I can't imagine I almost had to cancel it for a..." you can't say it, your eyes get wet again and then he raises your face putting his hands on your cheeks.
"Hey hey look at me, I'm here. I'm here, okay? And I'm not going anywhere"
"Please" you beg with your broken voice.
"I'm here" he repeats before placing his lips on yours and tears mingle with passion, worry, love.
That night passes restlessly, but John is always beside you holding you and reminding you that everything is fine. Your fingers intertwined and your head on his heart.

Profane Art (1/1) - schitt’s creek ff
Jake, Patrick, and David have a threesome, and David gets introspective about the symbolism of jewelry. (That’s right. I said what I said.)
Rated Explicit, 1667 words. (ao3)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jewelry had always served as powerful symbols in David’s life. Not all jewelry, of course. Not most of the vast collection of jewels in his mother’s dressing room as he grew up. Not the pacifier necklaces of his teens, or the ring with the black stone that he wore on his pinky when he was twenty until he lost it down a New York sewer grate. But the sight of that golden sideways A, nestled between his sister’s collarbones, would always trigger just a tiny bit of relief that Alexis was safe and sound. His parents’ wedding rings that by now had worn permanent grooves into their skin, maybe into the bones underneath, giving him one tiny reason to continue to believe in life-long love when everything else in his life told him it was a fantasy. The four silver rings that he’d been wearing on the day that his life imploded, when he boarded the bus that took him into exile in the town he apparently owned. Those were a symbol of his downfall, of his unwillingness to give up his fashion sense in a world of cat sweatshirts, of who he was and who he would be again.
Now those rings sat carefully nestled in a ring box in his underwear drawer, replaced by their golden counterparts. The gold rings were a message that he could have all of it — he could be himself, but he could also have this: a life in this town and with this man who made him happy. This man who made him feel safe.
And of course, there was his own wedding ring, the partner to the one on Patrick’s finger. David preferred to take his off when he showered and before he went to bed, a habit he’d developed long ago with the other rings he wore. Patrick almost never took his wedding ring off, though. He slept in it and showered in it and did yard work in it, and David should have been annoyed at the way it had gotten scratched up by years of baseball bat handles and hedge clippers, but he wasn’t. He liked it. The scratches were symbols of their time together. They were badges of the success of their marriage.
He also really liked the sight of Patrick’s ringed hand against his skin. He liked it when Patrick grabbed his hand and laced their fingers together as they walked from the store to the café. He liked it when they sat on the porch in the evenings, watching the sun set, and Patrick put his hand on David’s bare knee. He loved it when Patrick’s hand trailed down his chest, the gold ring against the dark of his hair. Secretly, he wished he could install a discrete photographer in their bedroom so that he could see it in other ways. He wanted to see Patrick gripping his ass with that hand, or see Patrick’s ringed finger on his shoulder while he fucked David hard from behind. He wanted to see the gold buried in the black of the hair on his head while Patrick buried himself in David’s mouth. It would be a gorgeous and profane art exhibit only for them. (It’s possible he’d spent a significant amount of time thinking about how he’d arrange the photos. It’s possible he’d sketched it in a journal, just for fun.)
So given all of that, perhaps it was surprising or perhaps it wasn’t surprising at all to realize how hot it was to see his husband’s hand on the body of another man.
This wasn’t the first time they’d fooled around with Jake together since they’d been married. But it was the first time David had been so transfixed by the vision of Patrick’s wedding ring in this context. Maybe it was the edible David had ingested an hour ago. Right now, for instance, he was staring at Patrick’s left hand gripping into the skin of Jake’s ass while Jake filled Patrick’s mouth with his cock. Jake stood at the foot of the bed, Patrick on his knees, and David lay back on the pillows and watched. He touched himself slowly, without any urgency, and waited his turn. The sight before his eyes was an art exhibit all on its own.
Jake pulled out, a trail of Patrick’s saliva like a single spider web catching the light for a second and then disappearing.
“You’re very good at that,” Jake said to Patrick, his voice a pleasant rumble. “Gotta stop if I’m gonna be able to fuck your husband, though.”
David squirmed, his hand drifting down to feel the plug in his ass. Oh right, he remembered. That’s what they’d discussed before they came over. That’s what he’d prepared for.
Jake was following the script, already rolling a condom on as Patrick collapsed next to David on the bed. They kissed lazily, Patrick’s mouth wet and lips swollen, tasting of another man’s cock. David bit his lip almost hard enough to break the skin and groaned. Fuck, he was so turned on.
Patrick pulled away, his gaze heavy-lidded with arousal, and put a pillow under David’s hips. He eased the plug out and David whined at the loss. But then Jake was there and he didn’t waste any time filling David back up again with his gorgeous cock. David let his head fall back, a moan ripped from his throat as sparks raced up his spine.
“Good, baby?” Patrick asked, leaning over to nip at David’s throat.
“So good.” Jake was fucking him now, short and powerful thrusts that lit him up from the inside.
Patrick kissed him and then shifted back on the bed, sitting on his heels and just watching for several seconds like he was looking at porn, transfixed by the sight of Jake’s cock moving in and out of David. Perhaps David wasn’t the only one who wished he could see them from angles he usually didn’t get to see.
Then Patrick shook himself and picked up the lube that Jake had dropped on the bed, squeezing some out on his fingers. “You still want this?” he asked Jake.
“Fuck, yeah,” Jake grunted, his hands gripping tight to David’s thighs.
This part David couldn’t see, sadly, but he could tell the minute Patrick brushed Jake’s prostate with his fingers. Jake made a noise like he’d been punched in the gut and thrust even harder. David felt the top of his head touch the headboard, and he reached back and braced his hand against it. With his other hand he jacked himself, trying to time it right — he didn’t want to come too soon but he didn’t want to lose his momentum. He wanted to come while Jake was fucking him. Wanted that desperate, out-of-control orgasm that was like falling down a mountain.
His eyes had slipped closed, and David forced them open just in time to see Patrick slip a hand around Jake’s torso to brace himself as he continued fingering him with the other. David’s eyes honed in on that wedding ring again as Patrick’s blunt fingers spread across Jake’s chest.
“Come on, David,” Jake panted. “I’m almost there. Come on.”
David moved his hand on his own cock faster, his eyes on the gold of that ring. His husband, the man he’d loved for almost a decade now. Trusting and confident and open for adventure.
He was close now, god he was close, and he met every thrust of Jake’s with his own, fucking himself on that cock, feeling bare and spread open, exposed, observed, sliding down a hill too steep to get any purchase. Faster and faster and hotter and…
The pulsing of David’s muscles around Jake’s cock matched the pulse of his cock in his hand, the wet streaks painting his belly and chest. Jake grunted and then stilled, attractive while coming like he was attractive doing anything, the bastard.
“Come here,” David said to Patrick, “let me suck you off.” Jake faded into the background and then it was just the two of them. Patrick straddled him on the bed and sighed in relief as David enveloped his cock with his mouth. It didn’t take long. Patrick was close, and it couldn’t have been more than a minute of shallow thrusts before he was coming down David’s throat.
The three of them piled together in the bed after, but David was already feeling antsy and ready to go home to his own bed, with the sheets and pillows and mattress firmness just exactly the way he liked them.
“Do you want to stick around and watch a movie?” Jake asked.
“Nah, I think we’ll head home,” Patrick answered. “We’ve gotta get an early start tomorrow.”
“Suit yourself,” Jake said. “My door’s always open for you guys.”
Patrick laughed. “Yeah.” Open invitation aside, it wasn’t ever going to be something they made a habit of. Jake was a drug best taken in small doses and rarely.
David felt Patrick poking him in the arm. “Come on, hon. Don’t fall asleep.”
“I’m not asleep,” David said, levering himself up, collecting his clothes, and heading to the bathroom to do an abbreviated cleanup before he could get home to his own shower, which was also exactly the way he liked it. When he emerged, Patrick was dressed, standing there and talking to Jake about a table he’d crafted. He needed to get his husband out of here fast before Jake turned him into a woodworker. Patrick had way too many hobbies as it was.
Patrick was running his hand admiringly over the smooth cherry wood as he talked, his wedding ring glinting in the low light.
“Ready to go?” Patrick asked David as he approached. He reached out with that same hand and cupped it around David’s neck, pulling him close for a kiss.
“What’s that smirk for, David?” Jake asked after they pulled apart.
David chuckled. “I was just wondering… Are you any good with a camera, Jake?”
wip: caught
more vamp!au. tw: for blood mentions and mentions of a lost limb
Mae says she almost catches him, slinging fireballs and thunder at him. Silque knows that it is nothing he cannot handle, nothing he cannot overcome. He disappears again, slipping out of Novis for a while until he returns. They all speak of it in hushed tones at the Priory. No one knows his name or face, so they cannot place who he is.
“If I had’ve just been quicker, I would’ve made him into a lightning pole with all the metal he wears!” She jeers. Her words frighten poor Genny, who’s barely able to hold her staff when they go on hunts.
Celica hushes Mae before Silque can hear anymore. The vampire’s warning rings in her ears, making her sick to her stomach.
They had been safe from his kind for a while. But she supposes that moment of peace has ended. Too abruptly; the Pegastym is almost upon them, when the land’s harvest is ripe and ready to be picked. All capable hands from the priory will be pulled to help in them fields, as will hers. They will be left open for attack, for the vampire to make his move.
It makes her both nervous and angry. Why had he picked Novis? Why not the mainland? No... either way they are damned just like him; in the end he will always need to feed and they will be forced to drive him back to his cemetery.
Mae’s pride sets her off more than usual. She finishes her regular duties of caring for the young, sitting confessional and offering food to the poorer sections of the island and then holes up in her room, devoting herself to prayer. It is the one thing that clears her muddy mind and stops her shaking hands.
She never closes the door to her room, instead leaving it ever so slightly open. No one ever enters or bothers her. Interrupting prayer is a holy offence, it is like interrupting a close and private conversation between friends or family.
In her prayers, Silque always asks for the priory—for the Mother to continue to keep it safe and provide Novis with enough. It is continuous, going on for hours and hours until Silque sways in her spot and her mind swims with thoughts.
Moonlight steeps through the lace curtains of her room. The moon is startlingly bright tonight, almost pure white. For once, her room is light. It always seems too dark, barely bright enough to write sermons and hymns even in daylight.
Her hands drop from their clasp and she turns to face the window. Such a bright and pretty night. Her eyes scan the familiar priory—the gardens that grow beautiful and plentiful flowers and food, the courtyard that hosts many a training session for their mages and knights, the large trees that children play under in the warmth of Flostym.
She notices something in the distance. A traveller perhaps, probably weary and looking for somewhere to sleep and a good meal. She glances behind her—the hallway is dark, most of the other residents must have gone to sleep already.
Silque pulls a cloak around herself and hurries outside. She knows they have another cot which can be set up in the chapel, and there are provisions in the canteen. Visitors are not unheard of this late at night, although, it’s been awhile since they’d had one so late. It just be past midnight now. She takes a lantern.
She walks out to the edge of the priory, holding her hand out. “Come into the arms of the mother,” she greets in her most comforting voice.
She brings the lantern up to his face. Porcelain skin, blue hair, lips twisted into a haughty smirk and blood red eyes. “I think I’d rather not.”
Him.
She drops the lantern against the earth and lets out a yelp. Silque scrambles behind the stone posts of the Priory before he can lunge. The lantern begins to catch fire on the dry grass and she lets out a cry. His boot comes down, extinguishing it with dark smoke. It smells like burning rubber and salty air.
“You!” She growls.
“Aw, cold shoulder now? You were so happy to see me a second ago.” He says, his horrible laugh following after.
“Why are you here?” She asks, wide eyed and shaking. He stands just before the dividing line of the mundane and holiness—the line that will burn him in holy eminence. Silque is without her hunting gear, no sword, no holy relic to protect her, no magic. And worst, she’s exhausted.
He is in the best position to kill her, here and now, should she step past the line.
“I demand to know why you’re here!” Her voice is stronger now; Celica and her friends are in there, he could kill them all. She needs to protect them, however she can.
He rolls his eyes. “I do have a name you know.”
“Why are you here?” Silque says, clutching the necklace around her throat. It is full of Mila’s tears, a safekeeping for all holy hunters.
“Nice place you got there.” His head flicks back to the Priory. “Love to see inside, I always liked churches when I was human.”
“Where you ever human?” She practically spits at him.
He smirks. “Uh duh. No one is born like this.” He says, gesturing to his bastard of an outfit. New boots are on his feet, they’re lily white and jarring to the eye. “We’re made, like you are. You were made into a hunter, I was made into a vampire.
“Did you renounce your humanity?” She asks. There could still be salvation for him, an exorcism perhaps hidden in some old text or scripture for his tortured soul.
“Next question.”
No hope then.
“What was your human name?”
“Human this, human that. Honest to the mother, you’re just as vain and obsessed as the rest of the holy.” She stays silent as he smirks in the dark. “My name was Python. Still is.”
“Well, Python,” she says. “Why are you in such an easy position for me to kill you?”
“I know you wouldn’t.” He says. “Can’t actually.”
She frowns. He dares to leer closer to the post, almost wiggling his fingers just centimetres away from the stone. She notices that he’s still missing a section of his pinkie, the one that had been claimed by her spell. “Too weak from prayer. Devoting yourself to a Goddess who doesn’t listen.” He leers. “Silly cleric.”
“Silque.”
“Pardon?”
“The cleric’s name is Silque.” She snaps, releasing her clutch on the necklace.
Python smirks. “Finally. Only took a year to know my huntress’s name.” He says. “Pretty name too. Like the fabric?”
She doesn’t answer, instead staring him down in the darkness. “Why are you here?”
She hears his feet brush against the ground. Walking, pacing perhaps. “I was just coming by to say hello. Been a while huh?”
“You were gone.”
“And?”
“I want to know where. And what you were doing.”
“Possessive, huh? Didn’t realize you were so smitten with me” He says.
“Speak like that again and the Mother will strike you down where you stand!” She exclaims.
He laughs bitterly and loudly. “Ha! She’s too busy on her throne of depravity. And besides, I already drank one of her girls dry before and she didn’t do shit.” He slurs.
“Then I will strike you down!”
“With what holy relic?” He laughs again. “If you really wanted to know where I was, then I guess you’ll have to come out and catch me.”
She turns around, begins back to the Priory. He cannot cross the line, just as she cannot cross his.
“H-Hey! Where you going?”
“Back to my holy chamber!” She calls. “The next time you see me, it will be with your head in my hand.”
“Silque stop!” He calls her name and it sends a shiver down her spine. He doesn’t say it like Mae, who slurs the syllables together or Genny who draws them out carefully. Hard on the k. It sounds...
She stops. “Tell me where you where.” She says. “I need to know if I must bless any bodies.”
“Ha. Good luck with that.”
She whips around. Terror seizes her, she clutches her necklace tighter. “What did you do?” She breathes, hurrying back to the edge of the priory.
“I was hunting elsewhere.” He says at last, proud that she returned to talk.
She frowns.
“Listen, beggars cannot be choosers.” He chastises. “You said stay away from Novis so I traveled to the mainland and drank there. I think it’s fair.”
“So you caused troubles for another village? Or church?”
“Brigands actually.” He says. “The blood was rank. Tainted really.”
“Is there a difference?”
“Oh yes, clear as day.” He says. He takes a step closer to her, his feet crunching against the dry grass. He comes incredibly close, dangerously close. He could go up in ash should he lean ever-so-slightly over the edge...
“The holy‘s blood is clean. They don’t drink, or smoke or sin. Pure, as Mila intended.” He says. “It’s intoxicating.”
Her brow furrows. He sighs, crossing his arms. The cloak slips away so she can see a dirty, blood-stained tunic on his torso. He shrugs. “How do I explain it to a human... Think of it like...” He laughs. “Well that wouldn’t work for you, you can’t drink...”
“A meal.” He says. “Think of it like your favourite meal. Having it after years of drought, no good crops or kills. And it’s fresh, hot, rich...”
Another shiver runs down her spine. Her hands shake a little.
“That’s the blood of the holy.” He says thinly.
“Is my blood like that?” She finds herself asking.
“I’d need a taste to be sure.” He says. She sees a red eye wink. “Care to share?”
She shakes her head. “Ah well, guess I’ll have to live with your smell.”
“My smell?” She asks. All her texts on vampires and the undead were blank. It said that vampires could not come out in the light, but he didn’t shy away from her lantern, nor does he burn up in the bright moonlight. There is so much she doesn’t know and he is an unwitting player—perhaps he could let lose a trade secret, something that could bring her closer to ending him.
“Your smell is the most excruciating though.” He says. “Every human smells different, it comes from their blood. No matter how many jasmine leaves they dust on them or soap they lather into their hair, it doesn’t leave them.”
“I pain you?”
“The best smells are painful.” He smirks. “But your lady is almost as bad. She has royal blood but in that there is corruption.”
She goes still. She swallows back nervously as he smiles and laughs a little. “How do you know about lady Celica?” She asks quietly. It is still a secret to all of Novis. Should someone find out, she’d have to go into hiding again.
“Smell alone.” He says. A smirk curls on his lips, white teeth gleam in the darkness. “And now you. So what’s she doing in this boring little island?”
Silque bites down on her tongue. “I cannot say.” She says. “Nor will I tell you.”
His smirk fades. Then he shrugs. “Fair enough.” He says. “Not that I was after her per se. Just wanted some gossip.”
His feet crunch against the ground. He’s beginning to walk away. “Take care of her, Silque. She’s a lady that‘s wanted by many heads.” He calls.
“Python?” She calls, running to the edge of the priory. Her hands touch the warm stone, brimming and brewing with the holy spell that protects them. She calls his name again and again, but never dares to step beyond the stone pillars.
Flashback
“Cathleen?” Where is she? They told me she was here at her lab. She was almost two hours late for our date, so I grew worried and went to check on her. The whole building was pitch black, but the doors were all unlocked. She never would’ve left the doors unlocked. I went straight to her office, knowing that was the most probable place she would be. “Cathleen?” I call out once more. Her office light is on and I chuckle. She must have been so engrossed in her work that she forgot about our date. I slowly open the door to peek inside. The sight behind the door causes fear to overcome my mind, before my vision goes black and I pass out.
Cathleen
“What are you talking about? That’s ridiculous. We are not from a different world.”
“How could you forget?” he mumbles. He looks so torn and hurt, but he’s talking complete nonsense.
“I didn’t forget anything! How could you make something up that’s so outrageous?”
“I’m not making it up!” His eyes plead for me to believe him.
“That just makes no sense Jungkook,” I hesitate. I feel a slight ache in my heart and place my hand on my chest before looking up at him, confused.
“I’m not used to you calling me by my full name. It hurts a bit, but I guess I’ll have to get used to it. But, if we’re not dating in this world, and you don’t remember anything, why were we in bed together?” My cheeks flush.
“Did you forget everything that’s happened before this morning?” If he has no memories of before, this is going to be an issue. He stares off with a complex look on his face. He groans in frustration and rubs his temples.
“No, I just remember you saying that we had to sleep on separate sides of the bed, but we were definitely not on separate sides of the bed when we woke up.”
“Are you sure you’re not just combining your dreams with reality?”
“Yes,” he answers firmly. “It would also explain my really strong desire to kiss you.” I slowly inched away from the maknae. “Don’t worry. I’m not going to,” he rolls his eyes.
“You have rehearsal today. You need to get ready.” He sighs before rolling out of bed. I laugh lightly at his behavior. His messy bed hair and groggy eyes were pretty attractive when paired with his bare torso. I felt my cheeks heat up and my heart rate increase.
“Like what you see?” I snap my head up to where he was standing, a playful smirk on his face as he rummages through the drawers. Wait. Those are my drawers
“Yah! Stop going through my drawers you pervert!”
“What? This is my drawer! You keep the clothes I leave in your room in this drawer.”
“What are you talking about? You’ve never slept in my room before.” His eyebrows furrow at my response. He grumbles something about being ridiculous and losing my memory as he walks out the room. I hear a short yelp from the other side of door and jump out of bed to see what happened. I open the door to see all the guys standing in the hallway, and Jungkook breathing heavily in front of them while clutching his heart.
“Why are you in Cathleen’s room?” Jin questions the maknae with narrow eyes. Jungkook just stands there, gaping like a fish.
“You better not have tried anything with her.”
“Cathleen, you let us know if he ever does something bad to you.” I snort at everyone’s concern, and Jungkook’s irritated face.
“We’re watching you maknae. All of us,” Jimin wans
“Is it so unacceptable to spend the night with my fiancé?!” All of their jaws drop. I shoot him a look that had ‘are you kidding me?!’ written all over it. He grimaces and looks at me apologetically.
“I’m sorry, but what?”
“It’s nothing. He had a strange dream last night, and it made his brain all weird.” He shoots me a glare, but I just shoot one back. He got himself into this mess. He should be thankful I’m at least helping him get out of it.
“I’m sorry, but there’s no way you can be so messed up as to call someone your fiancé just because of a dream,” Yoongi says suspiciously.
“Don’t you guys have rehearsal? Shouldn’t you be getting ready?” I quickly change the subject in an attempt to move on. “We’re all ready. We were waiting for Kookie, but he wasn’t in his room, so we came to see if he was with you. Obviously, we were correct,” Hoseok smirks.
“We found out that we can’t sleep separated,” I mumble. Jungkook snorts, causing me to shoot another glare at him.
“I can’t say I’m surprised. Looks like this connection thing really doesn’t want you two to be separated,” Namjoon nods. “But are you two ready? We have to go soon.”
“I just need to change clothes,” we both mumble. We glare at each other before going our separate ways to our rooms. He just had to blurt out the whole fiancé thing.
An unfamiliar article of clothing was laying on my bed. I guess he really did have a habit of leaving his stuff here when he slept over. Wait what am I saying? He’s never slept over before last night. He was just dreaming. I fold his shirt before picking up the grey jacket that was underneath it. I feel something hard in one of the pockets, and pull it out. A ring box? I open it up to see a matching set of engagement rings. My head starts to pound as my legs grow weak, and collapse on the ground. I throw the ring box across the room in horror. Memories begin to pour into my mind, tears unwillingly falling from my eyes. I don’t even hear the door slam open, or anyone come in, until Jungkook is by my side. My eyes stay locked on the ring box as he pulls me into his arms.
“I know. The same thing happened to me. It all came back to you, didn’t it?” I weakly nod. He really was my fiancé. I had been working in the lab late one night. We had just come across a new substance, and I was so engrossed and excited about it, I didn’t want to go home. I had forgotten about our date. Something went wrong though. The substance I was working with had begun to mess with my senses until I completely blacked out. Jungkook must have come to find me and was affected by the mysterious gas as well.
“Are you guys coming or-” Jin freezes in the doorway.
“Yes, we’re coming,” I reply monotonously. I break away from Jungkook’s arms and quickly retrieve the box from the other side of the room. “Let’s go,” I mumble. I grab his arm, and hurry out the door, past a concerned and confused Jin.
I fiddle with the ring box the whole car ride.
“So, you guys are really engaged?” Jimin questions, staring at the ring box in my hand
“And from a different world?” Taehyung adds.
“I don’t know. Something just doesn’t feel right about it all. I have the memories, but something is just off about them,” I explain.
“That’s how I felt when I first remembered, but it explained the whole connection thing, so I just went with it.”
“Well, you can’t wear your rings in public. It would be chaotic if anyone saw them and put two and two together. And knowing our fans, they would be spotted within seconds of getting out of the car.” I sigh. Yoongi is right, but I feel empty without it on my finger now that my memories were back. Jungkook must feel the same.
“Hyung, if it’s going this far already, we’re going to have to announce it to the public eventually,” Hoseok mutters.
“I agree, but it’s not that widely accepted for an idol to get married, especially at 20,” Namjoon reasons.
“Are we technically 20 though? We could be like really old in the other world.”
“Seeing as you were just engaged, I doubt you were that much older. Plus, this isn’t that world. You’re in this world now, and in this world, you’re both 20.”
“Hyung-”
“Kookie let it go. You know he’s right.” He sighs in defeat. “Give me your necklace,” I ask. He looks at me in confusion before taking off the long necklace he always wore underneath his shirt. I pulled his ring out of the box and slid it on to the chain before handing it back to him. “There. Now you can wear it without it being seen.” I pulled off my necklace and did the same thing. “It wouldn’t very good if your male manager was seen with a diamond ring on his left ring finger. A bit too feminine if you ask me.”
“Thank you Jagi.” I throw him a warm smile.
“You seemed really disappointed about not being able to wear the ring. You know what would happen if you did though.”
“The fans would go crazy.” I nod.
“Oh great they’re talking all telepathically again,” Jimin groans. Everyone laughed at his whiny voice.
“Cathleen do you have your disguise?” I nod. The only thing masculine I had was Jungkook’s hoodie and hat he left in my room. I slip on the hoodie, and tuck my hair into the hat, before slipping my sunglasses over my eyes.
“Are those mine?” he smirks. I roll my eyes at his cocky attitude.
“You almost look better in them than I so.” My eyes widen, a slight blush creeping onto my cheeks. “You ready?” I nod before stepping out of the large black van and walking towards the doors to the Big Hit building as the personal manager of BTS.
A couple weeks later
“What do you mean she’s been found out?” Jin questions, trying to hold back his outrage. PD-nim tosses a packet of papers onto the table. All it took was reading the bolded title at the top to figure out what it was about.
“They’re seriously trying to say they’re together just because they were the only two wearing necklaces that one day? That’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever read. There’s no way people would believe that. Plus, they think she’s a guy.”
“Well, see for yourself.” We scroll through the comments of the online article.
‘Who does that whore think she is trying to take our pure Kookie?’
‘I knew it was a girl all along. You can tell by the way she walks.’
‘She was wearing his sweatshirt and hat too. I remember it from last year. He wore it at the airport on the way to their concert in Japan.’
‘Who’s going to be next on her checklist? Is she going to make her way up the maknae line, and then hit up the hyungs last?’
Jungkook pulls my gaze away from the screen before I can read anymore.
“Those aren’t true at all. You know that. Every last one of those comments is a lie.”
“Oh here’s one that is somewhat positive.” We all look at the screen.
‘I think I can speak for many of the armies out there. We just don’t want to be left in the dark and lied to. Just hold a press conference explaining everything and introduce her to your fans. We want to support you, but how can we when we’re being deceived?’
“She’s got a point,” Namjoon says and everyone nods
“Guess that settles that. We’ll hold a press conference explaining everything. You won’t have to pretend to be a guy anymore, or hide your relationship.” We look at each other and nod. It was for the best.
“How much are we revealing?”
“Nothing about the bond,” Jungkook demands. “That is a secret that can’t ever be revealed to the public. Along with our engagement.”
“Boy, we aren’t engaged until you get on one knee and ask,” I scoff.
“I already did it once, why do I have to do it again?” He whines.
“I didn’t agree to anything in this world,” I smirk, and he groans. Everyone laughs at our small banter.
“You two really are something,” PD-nim chuckles.
“I always said they could have their own reality TV show with how much they bicker at the house,” Jin smirks.
“We do not bicker that much!” We yell at the same time. Jin raises an eyebrow.
“You should’ve seen them when they first met,” Jimin adds.
“Let’s just say that sparks were flying,” Taehyung teases.
“I’d never seen Jungkook so heated before that fan meet.”
“I’d never met such an outspoken fan before that fan meet,” Hoseok snorts.
“All right we get it,” Kookie groans.
“Are you sure? Should we continue?” the older member teases.
“You know, I was thinking maybe I should cook dinner tonight,” I ponder out loud. All of their eyes widen.
“All right! We’ll stop! Just please don’t cook.” I smirk.
“We should head home though. It’s getting pretty late.”
The car ride home is mostly silent. My hat and sunglasses are finally off, and I’m cuddled up with Jungkook in the back of the car. We’re finally done hiding. I don’t have to pretend to be someone I’m anymore. I still want to discover more about our past, but I won’t let it get in the way of my life in this world. I can’t just shake this suspicious feeling, but it doesn’t seem that urgent. I don’t need to worry about it too much for now.
Unknown
“What’s new?”
“They’re releasing their relationship to the public, but nothing about the bond or the engagement.”
“Are they still looking into their past?”
“Jungkook doesn’t seem to be as interested in it anymore, but I know the girl is suspicious about something.”
“Keep an eye on her. She’s the brains of the duo.”
“Do you think she’ll figure out that it’s all fake?”
“I don’t know what she’s capable of. Just watch her. Try to throw her off if she tries to figure something out or finds something suspicious.” I nod. We have to keep them together no matter what.
Chapter One-Hundred Seventy-One: Beatrice and Calix
Beatrice returned to the private apartment tucked away in the gatehouse of the castle, the bitter January air cutting her pale skin with shards of ice, bringing out a painful red hue on the Samoan’s dry cheeks. She ducked into the suite and slammed the door shut behind her, a smile on her face when she saw Calix sitting in the armchair by the window, waiting for her alone.
“How’re you feeling?” she asked, setting her pink quilted duffle bag on the terracotta tiled floor along with her boyfriend’s backpack and briefcase, both crammed full despite the undetectable extension charms on them.
Calix turned slightly in the cozy armchair, a bright smile on his bruised face. A rosy, fireside hue ran into the poppy marks on his skin, contrasting the groggy mess of hair and tight skin and clear-cut bones. He felt all skin and bones. There wasn’t much left of him. Alive. But, plagued.
He patted the side of the armchair softly, a weak sound rumbling in his frail chest. “I feel better. Much better now you’re here, sweetheart.”
Beatrice beamed and sat down on the arm of the chair, perched carefully like a swan on the upholstered side. “Ready to go home, pele?” she asked, tenderly brushing his long hair back off his forehead, wanting nothing more than to clean the grime from his tangled locks once they were safely settled in St. Mungo’s.
Calix’s lower lip started to quiver as he felt Beatrice’s fingers graze his scalp, catching in the thickened knots near the roots. He had missed her. He had missed them all. He had convinced himself he was going to die alone. The sudden intimacy, the stupidest and simplest of gestures, broke him.
He collapsed sideways, resting his head on Beatrice’s lap and sobbed uncontrollably. “Yes… please…” he whimpered, shattered by his first humane interaction in a long time.
The petite witch froze up for a moment at the way the gentle soul crumbled beneath her delicate touch, though she did not withdraw. He needed her now more than ever and it would take an act of God to tear her from him again. “C’mon. Let’s go,” she said after a few minutes, standing again though she held his battered hand tightly in hers still. “We don’t want to be late for the portal back home,” she teased lightly, brushing the sorrow aside with a little giggle as she moved to pick up her duffle bag.
Sniffling and wiping his cheeks with the back of his hand, Calix slowly pushed himself out of the armchair. His knees knocked and he clung gratefully to Beatrice’s arm for physical support and for emotional anchorage, the dark claws of memory raking at his mind as the blood dropped to his feet.
At least all horrors would be behind them for a while.
“C’mon! Let’s go!” Beatrice shouted at the other students storming into the castle like a flood, their ceaseless screaming ringing in her ears. She struggled to swallow the lump in her throat, the bright, hot red blood sprayed across the snow white field demanding to be seen, not just from the corner of her eye as she helped Calix limp towards the school. Wetting her desiccated lips with her sandpaper dry tongue, she couldn’t resist a glance at the meadow littered with shredded appendages, crimson staining the pure field among scattered torsos and heads torn apart as easily as two halves of a paper.
Not again. Oh Merlin, not again.
Vampires? Those were vampires!
The smell of blood and viscera dragged into the light by grey claws and pointed teeth, coated Calix’s throat like a dense, cold fog. The acrid taste brought Crix lurching to his side, the sadistic games they played vividly painted red in his mind’s eye. He was growing used to the sensation of bloody metal.
He struggled to match the pace of the stampeding students, the clattering, and hammering of feet, the roars of terror mixed with the stomach-churning screams of murderous creatures.
He dragged himself behind Beatrice, trying desperately to call to her, stretching off his hand. But, he was too weak. He needed to get to her necklace. He just couldn’t.
“Bea…” he called his voice a mere whisper in the crowd, swallowed by the ravaging crowd.
The Samoan’s head whipped around at the sound of a weak voice weakly calling out to her. Her brown eyes went wild with fear, not willing to risk losing her love again for the second time that day. “Calix. Honey, c'mon, we gotta move,” she hastened, throwing his heavy arm around her shoulders, desperately helping guide him the last few yards towards the castle when she felt a sudden piercing pain in her elbow drawing her attention away. Letting out a high pitched scream, she grimaced and glanced behind her, heart skipping a beat when she saw one of the beasts had dug its claws into her arm and was fast approaching her again with its gaping maw.
She pulled her wand and pointed at the ghoulish monstrosity, the alarmingly swift vampires dashing towards the stragglers in a swarm, uttering the first defensive spell to come to her mind: “Avada Kedavra.”
The vampire was close. Too close. He heard the flesh rip before he heard his girlfriend scream, a desperate drive propelling him forward. He needed that necklace.
He wrapped his arm around Beatrice’s shoulders, pulling himself closer to her and slamming his hand against her chest as she raised her wand. Her words were lost in the rush, the sudden shimmer of magic as his fingers found the protective necklace behind her blouse.
The pain was agonising. The fire singed through his nerves, his life force seeping into the spell, and black spots appearing in his vision as the gemstones in the constellation sang happily in response to his touch.
A glittering shield formed around them, encasing the lovers and a few other students in a dome of pale pink light. Calix’s knees gave way beneath him and he collapsed to the ground, lightheaded and drained. In front of him, merely an outstretched limb from where he fell, the lifeless body of the vampire crumbled to the meadow floor.
Had Bea… no… she… how?
“Calix!”  Beatrice cried, watching her boyfriend fall into the snow drift just a few feet away from the doors where Doctor Evans and Professor Owa were urgently beckoning them to safety. She felt the sting of tears in her eyes freeze in the arctic temperatures and pointed her wand at him, quickly levitating him into the stony fortress towering above their heads, a safe haven from the gory slaughter staining the Isle Velum with the innocent lives of dozens, if not hundreds of the world’s best and brightest young witches and wizards.
“Don’t you dare die on me, Calix Hipposus Galen!” she begged, briskly passing Ella and Enzo as she moved the Irishman further into the hallway, setting him on a bench along the wall to rest. “Don’t you dare!”
Calix’s shield protected the students as they bolted into the castle, fleeing for their lives. He passed Enzo and Ella in the hallway, their wands aglow with battle magic. His shield, released from its emergency confines, would buy them some time. But, not much. He was too weak for anything other than a few minutes.
He could hear the vampires, blood-lustful monsters, clawing at the bubble. The piercing sound was horrendous. It reminded Calix of sharp nails on a chalkboard. They would break through eventually.
He looked to Beatrice as she put him down, smiling timidly. His eyes were half closed yet grey storms were beginning to tempestuously cluster behind the drooping lids. “And leave you? Not a fucking chance… just… need… a breather, that’s all. I was trying…”
Beatrice balled her hands into fists, clenching his blue flannel shirt in her tiny hands, burying her face in his chest. “Please don’t try anything right now, my love. Just take care of yourself,” she mumbled into his ear, resting her head on his shoulder. “I can’t lose you. Not again.”
Calix’s chest rattled with pain and devotion. He gently placed his shaking fingers under Beatrice’s chin and pushed upwards, the golden necklace hanging free. She’d used his gift to call for him before when he couldn’t answer; he would swear to never let that happen again. “I’m not going anywhere, ever, sweetheart… promise…”
He rested his forehead against hers and squeezed his eyes shut. He didn’t know if they were going to survive the night. There were so many students dead. What’s a few more? Life seemed so short. And yet, he was living.
“We… need to help…”
The Samoan witch shook her head vigorously, making herself dizzy with the motion until a shadow came and blocked the candlelight from falling in their faces: Professor Vincent. “Not now, you don’t, Calix. You, young man, need to rest. We’ve lost too many today already, and I’m sure Ms. Selwyn here can attest to this: you need to save your strength if you want to be of any help later,” he said, clapping his hand on the stubborn wizard’s free shoulder.
“Later?” Calix questioned, his eyes fixed on the main doorway. He could see the faint cracks beginning to form in his shield. He could feel it beginning to give. He felt useless, worthless; he should be there protecting the ones he cared about, not cowering in the candlelight and hoping that later would come soon.
Nevertheless, he nodded. He simply had no choice.
Beatrice took his hand in hers and laced their fingers together, watching with grief-filled eyes as the man she loved reluctantly released his control, for the time being, a devious thought tugging at the back of her mind. “Just for now,” she whispered, stroking his snow speckled stubbly beard keeping his bruised chin well hidden from her troubled chocolate eyes. “Now you need to take care of yourself. Please.”
“Okay, okay,” Calix said tiredly, lowering his head. His heart thundered loud enough to hear, disloyally mimicking the savagery of the vampires assault. He hated being hidden in the background. There was war. He should be with Enzo and Ella. He should be healing or protecting, not sitting broken on a bench.
He looked down into Beatrice’s grief-stricken eyes, irises wide and brimming with worried exasperation. She didn’t deserve this. She was too good for this. She didn’t deserve any of this. None of them did.
“I won’t do anything stupid… I’ll just sit here… but, if you need a healer…”
Vincent smiled down at the young couple and nodded before departing to help the other professors charm and lock all the doors. “You’ll be the first one I come to,” he shouted over his shoulder.
