Actually going insane over the implications of Jason asking Dick to be the Robin to his Batman in Battle for the Cowl.

Like I initially took it at the purely surface-level of Jason wanting a partner in the general sense. Which made sense, it's a huge responsibility and a lonely one so an assistant/sidekick/partner seems a no-brainer if you can get one.

But then I really thought about it, because Jason is not asking Dick to be his partner in the general sense; he's not even asking Dick to be his Nightwing. He's asking Dick to be his Robin.

And they both know exactly what Jason means: "Be the light to my darkness. Be the smile to my scowl. Be the hope to my fear. "

He's saying "Be 'Robin'; be the embodiment of Love and Justice and Goodness. Be the exceptional person that you have always been. Be the slightly-less exceptional person that I was when I wore your colors. Be the person that I was in the process of becoming and might have been (or might still be), if only Joker hadn't clipped my wings."

He's saying "I am prepared to become vengeance, become the Night. And I will go further than Bruce ever dared to, because it is what is needed. I will be the necessary evil. But you don't have to be. (And that the Opportunist thinks everyone loves him but they don't)

but what interested me most was him saying the Hunted and Cold would be friends. I've never really thought about that pairing before but it does work. The Hunted's main thing being keeping the body alive could help balance out the Cold's general blasé nature when it comes to death, while being rational enough (focussing on his senses and what he knows is real) for the Cold to actually take him seriously. While the Cold being able to push the Hunted to act somewhat like the Stubborn, but slightly less strongly. He's confident that they can get the job done, and with the Hunted keeping them alive they could get a lot done without either really getting sick of the other. Just two reliable guys.

A little off topic but I think they'd work pretty well as a trio with Paranoid too, given a little time for Paranoid to get used to it. Cold's confidence plus Hunted's survival instinct could give him something reliable to work with, and I think he could help him by pointing out when they're going to far in either direction and going to get themselves hurt, as both can be rather single minded (on different things, mind you, but definitelythings that could leave them with blind spots) while Paranoid thinks of every possibility and could probably bring up flaws in any given plan that the others wouldn't notice, and at least Hunted would probably take it into consideration if its going to get them hurt or killed. Like a scared little peer reviewer of any plans the other two would execute

Eddie realizes what he’s getting at, and he rolls his eyes in exasperation. “Buck, I’m not kicking you out after we’ve just had sex,” he says firmly. “Get in here.” Buck’s face lights up at that, and he smiles, shy and pleased. They undress in silence and get beneath the covers, lying down on their sides, watching each other expectantly. Eddie breaks the silence. “We’re—we’re good, right?” he asks, hesitantly. Buck swallows, and nods. “Yeah. Of course, Eddie.” Eddie breathes a sigh of relief. “Okay. Okay. Good. Well, do you want to—” He reaches out a hand slowly and Buck stares at him blankly for a minute before he gets it and laughs. “Yeah, we can cuddle,” he says, amused, and scoots over, throwing a leg over Eddie’s hip, contentedly resting his head on Eddie’s chest. He’s like a giant, cuddly octopus, Eddie realizes, but in the best way. He grins a little foolishly to himself, and begins to run his fingers through Buck’s hair. We can do this. Eddie thinks drowsily to himself as he begins to drift off. No strings attached. There’s no way this can go wrong.

lmfao it turns out Firmament used AI tools to modulate human voiceovers and muss up some textures and now kickstarter backers are malding and asking for their money back. and news outlets are treating those requests like they aren't ridiculous

#kickstarter backers wanting their money back for entirely baseless reasons is always funny but this is up there #the only salient complaint listed is that the human VA for the narrator isn't credited by name #and the studio's rebuttal is that the VA chose to not be credited by name + had full control over the AI modulation of their voice #and that this same VA had also gone without being credited in previous games at their own request #articles also seem to be implying that the lore of the game is “shallow” compared to Myst because of AI involvement #as opposed to the part where Myst is 3-4 games being dimly remembered through nostalgia goggles whereas Firmament is a standalone game #they could be lying about the VA thing i guess but that's such a bizarre and easily falsifiable claim to make

If we assume that Alan wrote himself into the Entity's Realm and wasn't just sucked up by the Fog then there's a real possibility that, out of all the Survivors in there game, he's got the greatest chance of escape. Cuz why would he write himself INTO a situation that's (arguably) WORSE than the Dark Place without writing a way out? Unless the story started coming true before he could finish it (probably thanks to the Entity itself) and he got sucked up immediately after typing "so I went to a Worse Place"

But then if we assume that the Entity did just Grab him with the Fog, poor Alan just got magically teleported out of Hell (the Dark Place) and into Super Hell (the Realm). Poor bastard.

A question: do you think the Voices would, given time, change to be a calmer version of themselves in a A New Dawn situation? Like, even as the ending is playing, Voices like Paranoid and Hunted clearly cherish the The Long Quiet's decision (Paranoid going as far as saying that everything that made existing so horrible to him is finally over :/), showing they are already starting to calm down from their perpetual state of fear and over-vigilance, which are kinda important traits for them to still be what they are. Maybe as this new world without bloodshed sets in and there's nothing to justify them being so exaggerated, they would eventually mollify into, I dunno... Voice of the Anxious (Paranoid), Voice of the Attentive (Hunted), Voice of the Placid (Cold), Voice of the Meek (Broken), Voice of the Sly (Opportunist), etc etc..

I'M SORRY THIS TOOK ME SO LONG TO ANSWER, my brain has been picking at it and trying to put together words because all I've been able to come up with since I saw it is:

So, yes!! Yes, I love this concept. I made a post about things I found on the Reddit AMA a little over four months ago, and one of the things I went a little nuts over there was that an early concept for the voices was that, instead of getting more voices the more chapters you went through, the voice you got would change -- first for the worse, then for the better.

So I definitely love the idea of the voices shifting and becoming new versions of themselves once they leave the Construct, no matter what the circumstances are! Usually for clarity I write them with the same names, but I think especially in the New and Unending Dawn endings, they might completely update. In the "positive" one, becoming better versions of themselves... in the Everyone Hates You ending, becoming worse. (Though I can't stand unhappy endings personally so I like them improving after that bout of being worse, heh!) (Also I feel like even in the "positive" one, Smitten would get worse before he got better. :< Poor guy's deep in mourning again!)

I love your idea of them mollifying, but I also love the idea of them becoming more positive iterations of themselves. Paranoid could be Voice of the Anxious or Voice of the Cautious; Cold could be Voice of the Placid or, as Tony Howard-Arias floated, Voice of the Determined.

(Which, apropos of nothing, makes me realize just how much Cold and Stubborn might have in common...)
