Someone Lied To You About Oliver Queen/Green Arrow

Or, maybe you watched a certain show he starred in. Or maybe you’ve only read his stuff post-n52. Hell, maybe you just assumed, that’s okay too, either way, one thing is for sure, Oliver Queen Isn’t Rich. In fact, he’s usually broke as hell and struggling to pay rent!

Green Lantern (1960) #87

The original version of the character, practically a Batman clone, was rich, yes. Until in Justice League of America (1960) #75, the late and great Dennis O’Neil reworked his entire character, transforming him into a modern day Robin Hood, and, in aid of this transformation, had him lose all his money after a business rival frames him for embezzlement.

After that, and the cross-country roadtrip thereafter, Ollie struggled to find work, having a dwindling savings account, and barely scraping enough to make rent. He found occassional work as a columnist, and was for a time working as a public relations agent, though this didn’t end his money problems.

This was all during the golden age for Green Arrow, when he was most active on the League, and during the beginning of his relationship with Black Canary. Odds are, if its before the year 2000 and he’s wearing his Neal Adams suit, he’s flat broke.

It’s important to note, too, that Ollie wasn’t trying to get his money back, he was okay with making do, and even when given the opportunity to have some spare cash, he would rather have it go to something he felt was more important.

To the point that, in a later retcon by O’Neil, instead of losing his money due to a business rival, he instead willingly gave it all away to war relief funds after finding out his company was funding war efforts.

Later down the line, in the late 80s, Ollie would move to Seattle with Dinah, eventually working with/for her as an assistant florist and delivery driver. With the business from the flower shop and a coincidental big bag of money Ollie kept in his closet they were able to make ends meet together.

And that’s about the state he stayed in, until his untimely death-cum-resurrection, wherein he’d inheret the stately home, money, and youth centre of an old man who put his name in his will (no spoilers here, go read Quiver).

He’d continue to use the money to run said centre until the New 52 Reboot, where he’d be reverted to a rich guy, losing and reclaiming and losing and reclaiming his wealth over and over as each writer adapted him to tell their (often unrelated to his character) story.

TLDR: Oliver Queen is not the rich guy you think he is, he’s usually a broke socialist. Please read a comic book before talking about a character...please...just one...

Something I love about ATLA is that it doesn't force the "forgive the villain" on all the characters. It's been left clear that Ozai is a bad person, and there's no chance of redemption; the only reason he's not dead yet is because Aang is a pacifist

The one episode where a character is supposed to forgive someone who has hurt them in the past is the one where Katara is off to kill a man (which, fair) and Zuko helps. In that episode, even if Aang is telling her to let go, she doesn't forgive him. She never will. But she spares him. Not because she thinks he doesn't deserve death (he does), but because she's not willing to continue the cycle of violence

Killing someone can have a very important impact in your entire being, mostly depending on who you are as a person. Aang would've never recovered from killing Ozai. Katara wouldn't be who she is now, had she taken her revenge on the man that killed her mother

And the best part of it is that Ozai doesn't deserve to die. Not in a "I'm defending him" way (ew), but in a "he deserves worse that than" way

Taking away his bending was the perfect punishment for him. He believed bending made you superior and he never cared enough to train something besides his bending. What a loser. Zuko and Azula wouldn't be restrained by something like that

He's alive. Nobody has forgiven him. Nobody ever will

I am still not over the level cap thing what do you mean level fucking 10

#rat rambles #like do they not realize how fucking pathetically low that is?#like it is So easy to get a follower to level 10 especially late game #like in every playthrough of this game Ive done I always have at least one follower whos past level 40 usually several #Im glad they didnt retroactively lower existing followers levels but it still sucks #it just makes leveling them feel kind of pointless when theyre likely going to passively max out after a certain point anyways #like genuinely I dont even understand what the point of this change is #because its not like getting broke. high level followers is much of a concern early game #and mid game is usually only a potential issue balance wise if youve been putting in a stupid amount of effort since the start #and by the time you get to the late game I. genuinely dont think it matters.#like in early late game again youll only have genuinely broken high levels if youve been going hard at leveling followers #and by the end of the late game its like ok and. let ppl be powerful cmon man.#like theres So many things they could have done to adjust the balancing that wasnt this #like if theyre concerned abt faith generation then make a cap on that or make it not a one to one level thing #if theyre concerned about demons then they could again adjust the scaling slightly or simply make it harder to level followers #they could have even used the deciple thing to help with that by having it be a prerequisite to higher levels #like maybe you could have a couple rings of inner circles with each tier unlocking another ten levels #and they could even add a lower cap at like 50 or smth just dont make it fucking 10 #that might genuinely be the worst part of this update and Im not even joking when I say this just killed my motivation to play more #its one of the few things that you were able to keep working on and expanding after unlocking everything else #I genuinely really hope they change this because if not then I think Ill have to drop the game thats how bad it is to me
