So, I just finished “The L Word.” I know there isn’t much of a fandom for it on here, so I’m sure no one will read this. But I really just need to vent about it, so that’s what I’m gonna do. Y’all... what the fuck was that ending?!
The final season could NOT have been a bigger disappointment, and at the root of it is Jenny. Jenny started off as a super vulnerable, earnest, kind and complicated character. Throughout the series, she grows more and more manipulative, cruel, and vain. I mean, this doesn’t start in the final season, but it just gets to the point where she is insufferable. Finishing the series became tedious at the end for me, all because of her.
Her transformation first begins a few episodes into season four. I thought that when she finally confessed her feelings for Shane, she would finally start to become more like herself again. But instead, she becomes so possessive, controlling and honestly, crazy???
And that cliffhanger ending? Are we supposed to think Tina or Bette killed her?? Like damn this show took quite the melodramatic turn in the last few seasons.
Another issue I have is Shane. Shane and Alice are two of my favorite characters, so Shane’s character regression is just so frustrating? My favorite arc for her was when she was watching Shay. She seemed genuinely happy and content for the first time. Then their dad shows up (no shocker) and Shane goes back to fucking around? Like what she does to Paige came out of absolutely nowhere? And I’m supposed to believe she’s in love with Molly that quickly?
Also the whole Bette cheating thing is just sooo overdone. Lazy writing. I wanted Bette and Tina to be together, but I also loved Jodi so much. They made Jodi do some very strange things, but I’m glad she ends on good terms.
Anyway.... that’s it. RIP Jenny but honestly her character died long before.
