I had dreams about the forest.

Mostly the same things I'd heard while in the forest: pleas, whispers that sounded like prayers, calls for help, and the name "Castellan" a lot, as I stumbled through trees that pressed in on me from all sides. I kept tripping on knobby roots and scraping up my hands. My head pounded, my prickles roared, my heart felt like it was trying to break free from my chest.

At some point, when I tripped and fell, the forest floor gave way to a chasm of darkness. I knew this dream all too well. I landed in Tartarus. Despite knowing I was going to end up in Tartarus every night, it always felt fresh emotionally. It felt exactly like I was arriving for the first time, every time.

I used to have a therapy pet for this reason. Well, she was really more of a therapy dragon. A small thing (nothing like the size of Peleus), about the size of a cat. Not only did she provide warmth for my chronic pain, but she also woke me up if the dreams became too much, and helped me calm down if something triggered a flashback while awake. After being recruited, to put it nicely, by Triumvirate, she had disappeared.

Some part of me hoped that she had escaped for her own safety, sensing not only the danger of Triumvirate, but also the general danger in the city. But the longer I went without any sign from her, the more I feared Hargrave, or anyone from Triumvirate, had done something to her. I wanted to go look for her, or demand Hargrave tell me what they'd done to her, but to be honest…I didn't think I could handle what they told me. So I had put it off—let myself believe that she had simply left to protect herself, as that would've been the smart thing to do. (Even though I knew, deep down, she wouldn't have abandoned me.)

All that said, I woke with a shout, which woke everyone else in the cabin, as well.

"I'm fine," I quickly assured, because I could hear the question on their lips. "Go back to sleep."

8: Does your OC have any notable flaws or activities they're not good at? Why did you give them those flaws? Why do they exist in-universe?

this is a great question, because almost all of my ghosts ocs are designed to have several glaring flaws which make them extremely grating to haunt with, à la canon. i did this because i like arsehole characters who suck. william, for starters, is supposed to be a crusading soldier... and he dies a slow death of tuberculosis before he can achieve any of that. which i suppose makes the other activity he's not good at breathing - you stay how you die, after all. william is a bit like the love child the captain's military outlook and pat's excruciating optimism, as it happens. geoffrey is terrible at handling finances, and horses, and life in general. (he's honestly much happier after death. less responsibility.)

clarence has a bad habit of going along with other people's stupid ideas, most notably george button's idiotic suggestion to skate on the lake in winter. (you can imagine how that went.) elizabeth isn't very good at socialising - she has one (1) ghost she likes, and that's pretty much it. unfortunately for robin, that ghost is humphrey. also, she's exceptionally bad at haunting, which is honestly fair enough, seeing as the only ghost power available to her is a guy who can slash at stuff with his sword (william, at it again). oh, and she holds grudges. i mean, she's dead; it's not like there's much else she can hold. and having died in her sleep, she's frequently feverish and dizzy. in fact, it took robin longer than usual to convince her she was dead, because she wasn't awake to experience it.

17: List/describe up to five tropes that apply to your OC. They could be related to the OC's characterization or their narrative arc.

bad news: despite browsing tvtropes for fun, i have no idea how to answer this - or at least i don't have the energy. i would say that all of my ghost ocs (not bbc ghosts ocs, specifically ocs who are ghosts) are designed to be caricatures, with particular emphasis on some of them being parodies of their era. william is very much a parody of the crusading ideal, of holy war and chivalry, blah blah blah, and also a bit of richard the lionheart. richard the lionheart is way after his era, but he's still obsessed with the guy (and saladin), because he's been a bit... consumed by medieval crusading culture. "back in my day," he'd probably say, referring to a period more than a century after he died...

i also have some french ghosts ocs, and of those, pretty much all of them play off bbc ghosts and tropes surrounding their era, most notably marius (a bit like william, but a roman soldier, and incredibly fucking annoying). there's also estienne, who is a french spin on robin (i say french, but he's not french at all), pierre, who's mostly me messing around with identity and language in the south of france, milada (czech, and the antithesis of julian: very into in 90s/early 2000s culture, but the music and tech in lieu of tory shittiness), giulietta (gay and medieval. i wanted to subvert the "gay people were miserable in the past" narrative), mathieu (messing around with ideas of heroism and how that interacts with the french revolution in popular imagination), and james, a shitty english spy who tries to pass as an incredibly stereotypical frenchman, and only avoids being caught because he's so ineffectual nobody seriously thinks he could be a threat.

20: Share a random piece of trivia about the creation of your OC. Examples: scrapped ideas or changes you didn't expect to make.

the a in au stands for arthur. who is arthur? an oc involved in the long fic i'm working on (read: will probably be writing for the rest of the year, help). he's humphrey and sophie's (eldest) son, in an au where they actually learn to get along. ironically, his original backstory was from what was pretty much just daydreaming, in a world where his parents had been involved in the bone plot and died before he was old enough to remember them. so yeah, i'd say that's a pretty major scrapped idea. also this isn't relevant to the question but for his fourteenth birthday he gets a dog. they're best friends. this isn't relevant to the question, but it's very important to me.

I have 5 questions about barrierfail AU:

Will San and Toriel become a couple later on?

Will you add OC's to this as well?

Will other Sanses from different AU show up?

Will there be a villain that Barrierfail sans have to fight?

Will we see Gaster's be there as Ally or a villain?

It really means a lot to me to see people interested in my AUs

1: no, Sans and Tori never actually get the chance to become a couple, while there’s definitely hints of attraction a lot of ‘earth shattering’ (you’ll get the pun eventually) things happen that mean no one really has time for relationships

2: I’m not entirely sure what you mean in terms of OCs but there will be several human and monster characters that I’ve made solely for the purpose of Barrierfall (ie: The Human President; President Williams is an important character to the plot)

3: yep, Ink plays another very important part to the AU and Barrier Sans will end up in the Omega Timeline briefly so there will be quite a few other AUs

4: yes, there are two main villains in the story, one Human and one Monster, and I do t want to spoil too much but the Monster Villain is a cannon character, one of the main bosses of Undertale

5: Gaster isn’t technically alive anymore as by the time Barrierfall takes place he’s already fallen into the core, however there is a lot of time shenanigans that end up happening meaning Gaster dies actually appear a few times, he’s more morally grey than anything but leaning closer towards ally then to villain

16, 29, 37, &/or 38 - 40 questions meme

`16. If you only could write one pairing for the rest of your life, which pairing would it be?

29. If you could write the sequel (or prequel) to any fic out there not written by yourself, which would you choose?

My Friendly Monster by Mia Vaan, a Lucifer fic written in 2016 where Trixie finds out the truth about Lucifer after he saves her from a criminal, and so does everyone else over the next few chapters. It was a nice complete story, but I'd like to write a sequel because it was such a good story.

37. Talk about your current wips.

Well, there's the next 2 parts of Cobalt Blue and The Flash. I haven't decided the order they'll be in yet, but one of them is going to explore Henry and Malcolm's relationship over the years as it develops from 'son's best friend' to 'I guess he's my son now' (to Malcolm's surprise, given that he's never really had any examples of a good parental figure before). The other will be the direct sequel to Part 1, set a week or so afterwards - originally it was going to be just from Eddie's POV, but now it'll be split between him and Malcolm, as the latter explores his powers and wonders how to tackle his brother's guilt, something Eddie's still struggling with because of the last few years, and because he feels he should've been there for Malcolm when he needed him (they talk things out eventually).

Then there's (possibly) Part 7 of my Mike Barnes series bad boy (no more), which is going to be Tory-centric because in this one...she's going to be his niece (and Brandon his nephew)!! This was inspired by seeing old posts of speculating that Tory was his daughter - something that probably won't happen in canon and definitely won't happen in my fics because Mike wouldn't cheat on his wife!!! But with my headcanon of him being estranged from most of his family, him no knowing he's an uncle (or at least not anything about them) is perfectly plausible.

He finds out a few weeks after 2x10 - this time Elaine wasn't there to break up the fight, and though she didn't see Miguel fall the whole experience still shook her up enough that Mike took her and Alex out of West Valley High, so his mind's been on other things. Then he sees footage of the fight featuring Tory and sees the resemblance not just in looks but also the ferocity with which she fights - it reminds him of himself, and when he and Leah go digging for information they find out that yes, she and Brandon are his younger brother's children, but his brother up and left and the family changed surnames, and Mike and Leah realise that Tory needs serious help that she probably won't get unless someone steps in.

I've only written some of it, but it's looking likely it'll focus more on the women - Tory doesn't trust anyone at first, but slowly opens up to Leah and Elaine, and eventually she'll open up to the rest of the Barnes clan (Alex and Brandon get along well too), and it'll end up being an S3 AU because a Tory with a support system is a Tory who really won't rejoin Cobra Kai, and Mike and Leah have words to say when Kreese tries to bring her back into the fold. There'd also be a genuine apology from Tory to Sam - not full reconcilation, but a start, and possibly even one between Mike and Daniel, but that part I'm not sure about yet.

I'm also working on a fic set in the world of The Protectors. For those not in the know, The Protectors was a 1972 action series from Gerry Anderson - creator of Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet, among numerous other shows - which was one of his live-action ones and the only one not to feature any kind of sci-fi or fantasy slant. Instead it focused on the titular internation crime-fighting group, led by Harry Rule (Robert Vaughn), Contessa Caroline di Contini (Nyree Dawn-Porter) and Paul Buchet (Tony Anholt).

My fic is set a few years after the end of the show, and features an OC, Layla Williams, an ex-thief turned security tester, who befriends Paul while on holiday in Paris, and who ends up getting kidnapped as leverage against him and Harry. This ends up backfiring on the kidnappers as she uses her skills to escape her bindings and kick several people's asses on the way out, reuniting with her friends - though various circumstances means she doesn't meet Paul again for six months. At the moment there isn't really much of a plot - it's more a self-indulgent fic as Layla eventually ends up with Paul (who is my favourite character), but she'll definitely be getting more chances to showcase her skillset, along with her other friends in her team.

Sleeping beauty was not awake yet.

When I got back to the Apollo cabin, there was still a crowd gathered. They shifted and murmured amongst themselves uneasily. I noticed none of my other half-siblings were in the crowd, and I wondered what they were off doing. I was also a little surprised, considering they had a much more amicable relationship with our father (if you could call never seeing him but occasionally getting birthday gifts a relationship. Do I sound bitter?). So I just thought they'd be part of that crowd. Of course, since this was our cabin and our infirmary, they could've also just been inside.

I quickly slipped into the cabin without notice, and hung my sword again. I'd taken it out of habit. It wasn't like I really needed it while moseying around camp. I went to the bathroom first, where we kept human meds because, well, children of Apollo. I took four ibuprofen and took a moment to look at the flowers Willow had put in my hair. She'd put them in my braid so that the flowers made a line down the middle of my braid. Somehow (though, she was a tree nymph), she'd managed to wave the stems into my braid, following the flow of my hair. It was so pretty, I was already regretting having to take them out tonight. Then I went through the corridor to the infirmary.

Back in the infirmary, Apollo was, obviously, still unconscious. Will still sat near him in a chair he'd pulled up, but he was leaning over Apollo, his brow furrowed. But they were the only two in the infirmary currently, so my other siblings must've been off doing…something else.

"Is everything alright?" I asked.

Will jumped and looked over at me, his hand curling into a fist. He wasn't a fighter, but camp still taught us combat. It was necessary as a demigod. Not to mention, we'd been through two wars now, so it was to be expected some of us might have PTSD.

When he realized it was me, he relaxed but his eyes still looked tight. I could tell he noticed the flowers in my hair but he must've been too worried about Apollo to comment on them.

"I just thought he'd be awake by now," Will said. Then he turned back to Apollo and took his wrist, checking his pulse. "Maybe the nectar I tried to give him did more damage I can't see." He was mostly muttering to himself now.

I stepped closer. Apollo looked a little pale and a little sweaty. His nose looked like it was healing from being broken, with dark circles under his eyes. I could sense some other bruising on his body but nothing more serious than that. Another child of Apollo gift: we could sense wounds on the body, even internal ones. It came in handy. Of course, there were limits to this power and some of us didn't get it at all, but Will and I had both gotten it as part of our godly package.

"He's fine, Will," I reassured. "I don't sense anything wrong other than some bad bruises."

Will let out a shaky breath. "He should've woken by now," he muttered again, dropping Apollo's wrist, probably not having heard me at all.

I reached over to put a gentle hand on Will's shoulder, drawing his attention to me.

"I'm sure he's fine," I repeated. "He probably just needs a little more time to recuperate. Being human now and all—"

it’s a little vague, but I imagine you mean hcs regarding Tori and Thalia’s relationship? if not, shoot me another ask. and in the meantime, bonus content!

more under the cut bc spoilers for ITPS and INAS (just in case ya know)

first, a quick tangent: tbqh, I don’t think about their relationship a whole lot. which I do feel bad about bc Thalia did do a thing that led to Tori’s death, so she did, like, kill Tori. and that’s a traumatic experience, whether or not Tori blames Thalia. but my brain often glosses over that fact and I’ve narrowed it down to two reasons

Thalia reacted instinctively to Luke’s last ditch effort to save himself, aside from surrendering and giving himself up to the gods. and Thalia didn’t know that Tori was going to push Luke out of the way, or that Thalia would end up kicking Tori off the side of the cliff. so even tho Thalia was directly responsible for killing Tori, there was no premeditation or intent, it was purely instinct

Tori was saved anyway, and she doesn’t remember hitting the rocks. sure, she certainly remembers falling, and the look in Luke’s eyes as he watched her fall, but not actually the act of dying. which, of course, is all still traumatic, but that’s the other thing. she was more focused on how it affected Luke, not necessarily that Thalia’s the one who kicked her. not to mention after she wakes up, she realizes that Luke had an out and he hadn’t taken advantage of that–then they’re thrown into Labyrinth planning and what follows soon after is Luke being possessed by Kronos. so she’s much more focused on herself still being alive and how it’s affecting Luke

all that said, I have been cooking up a few ideas regarding their relationship for the third installment of my still unnamed PJO OC story that will take place in TOA. it’s quite juicy and I’m hoping I’ll be able to keep it once I sit down and solidify all the ideas I’ve been brainstorming since TOA was announced

but to say more would be wandering dangerously into spoiler territory

I can say a few things as I see them:

Tori doesn’t blame Thalia for her death, intellectually

emotionally, it was traumatic and she’s suppressed it. bc of this, it isn’t something she’s worked thru with Rowan, bc she doesn’t even know it’s a whole issue

it bubbles up to consciousness when the Hunters of Artemis are mentioned in general, and she feels extremely uncomfortable around both the Hunters and, especially, Thalia if they are physically present

she has a very negative opinion of them, for various reasons, but feels she has no real reason why she feels that way (sure there’s the CHB rivalry with them, but my Artemis not Rick’s who kicks out lesbians (instead of whatever the fuck the alternative is [side note: I haven’t read the second book just yet]) and treats it like that’s a good thing protects young girls, so it’s not like she’s doing anything bad to make Tori feel so negatively toward them)

and since Thalia’s usually away with the Hunters, Tori and Thalia don’t interact often or at all

Thalia doesn’t feel particularly guilty for pushing Tori off the cliff–she rationalizes that 1) Luke shouldn’t have grabbed for her spear like that, 2) Tori shouldn’t have pushed him out of the way, 3) Luke and Tori were both working for Kronos as far as she was concerned, so if Tori had died and stayed dead it wasn’t a huge loss to her, and 4) she didn’t stay dead, so her kicking Tori off the cliff is kind of moot

emotionally, obviously, killing someone (even if they come back) is traumatic, even if she doesn’t feel particularly remorseful about it. but Kronos was foiled, she watched Zoe die, had a counsel with the gods soon after, and then joined the Hunters, so there wasn’t really time to process her emotions or trauma surrounding the incident

and then she’s off with the Hunters, so it gets pushed further and further onto the back-burner until it’s out of sight, out of mind at this point

that will change in my story for TOA*, but saying any more would be

*again, I haven’t officially solidified any ideas yet, so I don’t want to mislead anyone. I would like it to be one of the more major plot points, but if it doesn’t work out in the context of the story, I may have to, unfortunately, cut it
