Now imagine this in the old era before Mortal Kombat 1: Medusa!Reader manages to make her way into Kotal Khan’s court after being vouched for by Reptile. While Kotal Khan is, understandably, suspicious of the woman that used to work for Shang Tsung (but unaware you were anything more than a trophy wife) you showed no prominent desire or allegiance to Mileena or the deceased Shao Khan. Although, you did win his favor by dutifully serving Kotal alongside Reptile, whom you’ve seen to grow deeply attached to, and when you revealed D’Vorah to be a double agent for the Fallen Elder God Shinnok. Meanwhile, Reptile continued to court you the Saurian way and grew deeper and deeper in love with you. You who seemed so elegant, intelligent, faithful, and ruthless when need be. Reptile even went as far as to gift you a flower thought to be long extinct from Zattera, as a token of his undying devotion to you.

Yet, it was all a ruse. In reality, you were a snake in the garden disguised as a rose. You had your own agenda and priorities, which you kept under lock and key by acting submissive to those in power. You exposed D’Vorah because, while her allegiance to Shinnok meant the destruction of Outworld, you refused to let Quan-chi or any of his allies destroy it. No, Outworld will crumble and fall by your hands. Which is why you kept in contact with Mileena unbeknownst to Reptile and Kotal, and plotted with her.

Your plans came to fruition during a Ball Kotal held for all those in power and nobles of Outworld. You danced with Reptile seemingly smitten with the Saurian, to which everyone else looked at with contempt and disgust. Not you though, with your loving smile and how you kissed his cheek. Eventually, getting sick of the looks from everyone else, Reptile excused you and him to have a private moment on one of the palace’s balconies. There, Reptile popped the question and asked you to be his mate for life. You give an amused smile as you turned him down, stating that there’s no point as it wouldn’t be long anyways. This confused the Saurian we’d body suddenly seized up as if every nerve in his body turned to ice, thanks to the lipstick you laced with paralyzing Kytinn poison. You calmly stepped away from the growing puddle of acidic drool.

You admit to the last Saurian that while you are genuinely fond of him and appreciates his devotion, he’s really more of a pet to you. Shang Tsung on the other hand was more of your equal. You revealed to Reptile as he writhed from his circulatory system shutting down, that you weren’t just Shang Tsung’s wife but his partner. You reminisce how the late Sorcerer made life invigorating and sublime until Shao Khan took that all away from you. At that, you took the rare flower that Reptile gifted you, that you placed earlier on your head, and threw it to the ground and grind it beneath your heel. If you can’t make Dhao Khan pay, then you’ll make his legacy, Outworld, pay his debt. If Reptile could cry, he probably would. But you shushed the Saurian and cooed condescendingly that you won’t destroy him, as he’d make a most rare addition to your garden. So you turn him into stone while capturing his heartbroken expression. You giggle and give one last kiss to his snout before you walk away to watch the rest of your plan unfurled.

You smiled and hummed to yourself at the sound of screams and blood curdling howls as guests at the parties met their end from the Tarkatans you let in, after poisoning Kotal’s guards. You walked into the main room just in time to watch the carnage and mayhem, as one by one, nobles and generals alike were torn to shreds by the Tarkatans or choked on their own blood from making the mistake of drinking from the wine offered. At the center, was Kotal Khan fighting for his life, swinging his sword in large strokes against the hordes of Tarkatans who fall to his blade easily. It won’t be long now before Mileena descends on the Osh-tek to reclaim her throne. Putting you one step closer to your goal.

Kotal was educated by his mother and father. He doesn't really get the concept of college or, a parent sending their child away for an education. Nevertheless, he’s very supportive during your time in school. If Kotal sees your stressing he makes you take a break and run you a bath for you. The moment she sees you stressing over an assignment, she’ll convince you to spar with her just to get your mind off it for a little while. Mileena will also have a nice chat with your teachers and may nor not threaten them if they don’t lay off all the work they give you

Reptile (Syzoth)

Has no notion of school. School, in general, was never thing back in Zaterra. You explain that school is required for children back in Earthrealm he’s horrified. You have to send your child away to a building where they are forced to sit down for eight hours a day for seven days a week, and you have two days off?? And then after that you have to go to a bigger school that cost money? You have to reassure him that it wasn’t that bad. Reptile doesn't really understand the college thing, but he tries. He suggests you take your school work outside. It’s no fun to stay inside on such a pretty day! With all his age and wisdom he’ll try to help with any questions you have, but don’t expect a lot from him. Reptile is supportive and will gladly be a listening ear if just need to complain about school.

Ermac

With so many souls, he has several academics tucked away somewhere. Ermac is like your own personally encyclopedia. He won’t hesitate to help if you need it. Just don’t expect him to give you the answer, you have to figure it out for yourself. If you’re struggling with your school work he’ll take you away from it. He’ll make tea for you and read from one of your favorites books, or just talk about something dumb. Ermac will encourage you to do your best in school.

Erron Black

He had some basic schooling back in Texas. He never thought about college, Erron never thought it to be important. He can read, write, and is pretty good with math. Once he learns you’re in college working on your degree he’s supportive of you. If he’s still in the Black Dragon Erron will pay for everything, books, supplies, even a bit of your tuition. Only the best for his baby girl/boy. If he’s not in the Black Dragon, he’ll stay for a bit of. D’Vorah will praise your intelligence and makes sure you’re doing well school. If you’re getting stressed she pampers you making sure all your stress will melt away. Unforently since she is the first minister she’s busy most of the time, so if you’re having trouble with a subject she’ll have the best tutors on call to help you.

Skarlet

Like Mileena, she doesn't really understand why you work so hard. The only education she’s had was from her father. After explaining why need to go college she kind of understands but doesn't like it. Skarlet thinks it’s unfair that you have to pay for pretty much everything. She offers to pay for most of it. Skarlet is knowledge in a lot of subjects, don’t hesitate to ask her for help. If you’re getting frustrated she’ll come over and start massaging you making your troubles melt away.

Jade

Jade is very supportive of you during your college years. She’s your own personal cheerleader. As Kitana’s best friend she knows the value of a good education and frequently encourages you to do your best. When she has time she’ll you study. If you get stressed Jade suggested that you walk away for a bit and do something else. She’ll make you tea and sit with you for a while

As princess, she received lost os education and knows it can be stressful. If she’s not busy Kitana will help you study, even if not familiar with the subject. She loves it when you share obscure facts about Earthrealm. The more she learns about Earthrealm the more she gets to know you. Kitana will become your tutor if need be, but if not she will hire the best ones around to help in whatever subject you need help. If she sees you struggling you and her will take brakes and go walking in the gardens for a while and talk about something that isn’t related to school.

(Disclaimer that this takes place from mkx to mk11, and is not perfectly accurate to the storyline that comes after aftermath, but its my own AU if how I wish it ended, so...)

"Shao Kahn was already pushing the line, but mileena as well? Rain, think about what you are saying!" He huffs, his gaze shifting to your eyes.

"You know my reasons." Squeezing your eyes shut, you pressed the palms of your hands to your temples. It's difficult to understand what is going on in Rain's head sometimes.

He had always been hard to deal with. Rain had hired you to help him find someone a while back. Your family line was well known in all relms for their tracking abilities and moral code. You had your doubts about accepting Rain's offer, but the payment offered was more than enough to get you on board.

As the months grew longer, the hunt slowed to a stop. There were No tracks. No clues, not a single strand of evidence to be followed. Rain's brothers remained untouchable. In the meantime, you and Rain had become... close. And you stayed by his side as he shamelessly served Shao Kahn.

Before this, you has always been neutral on outworlds chaotic ruler. But after meeting Kitana and learning of his cruelty in both his political and personal endeavors, you became increasingly uneasy as you remained with Rain.

But now, Shao Kahn was dead. Kotal had taken his place. And it was time to make a decision.

"Is the power- will it ever be enough for you?! Will you ever be satisfied? Mileena is a wild card, Rain! Agreeing to serve her is madness!" Rain's hands flexed, shoulders set back, eyes hard and zeroed in on you. You knew Rain well, you thought. And you could tell there was no getting through to him.

"The power will be enough when I say it is. I deserve everything I want. You deserve-" your heart fluttered as he cut himself off abruptly. Your demeanor softened, and his did too. You almost didn't notice as he started to take a few steps closer to you. His silence was deafening.

"I think you know what I am about to say," He was closer now, close enough for you to just barely feel his breath on your face. He has taken off his mask, and it took every bit of restraint you had to resist throwing yourself in his arms. No. You would never so such a thing. You scolded yourself for being so emotional.

"Do I?" He lifts a hand to caress your face, and against your better judgment, you melted into his touch. You could tell that this was an act. It had to be. From the very beginning you knew that he would most likely only ever love himself. You told yourself that this moment to him is only a chance to get you to remain with him as a pawn. You had always been a pawn to him, and you could tell he hadn't realized you always knew. Still yet...

"Despite my fondness for you Rain, I think this may be where our paths diverge." His body language remained stiff, but he pressed his forehead to your own. His lips in a thin line.

"I know..." This was quite enough. He was such a bad liar that it had started to hurt. You take his hand off your face and into your own, taking a step back from him. Your eyesight locked onto your conjoined hands only.

"This will not be the last time we meet, I can promise you that." For better or for worse, you silently continued after.

"Good. I'll be anticipating our reunion." You take one last good look at him, holding back the words, the tears, the angry and loving things you wish you could say to him in this moment, and you leave him there.

Sometimes, honor and common sense must come before a one-sided love.

You portal back to earthrelm for the first time in months both physically, and emotionally, alone.

Whatever time debacle that had just occurred ment, you sure as hell didn't want any part of it. After less than half a week, your younger self had disappeared from the old farmhouse where you lived, and almost everything had gone back to normal.

You hadn't heard from any if your outworld friends in quite some time now, and had faith that whatever had happened, they had it taken care of.

You had just returned from helping an elderly neighbor track down some lost cattle, and were currently curled up in the sofa with a warm cup of tea. Simply enjoying life altogether.

-When a sudden light filled the room, starting you enough to drop your mug, and two figures stepped out of the portal as it shattered on the wooden floors.

"Did we catch you at a bad time?" Fujin had a friendly smile on his face, Nightwolf by his side, his serious counterpart. You were so shocked you almost forgot about the glass.

"Fujin, Nightwolf, I'm almost happy to see you! It's been a while."

"It has," Nightwolf replied, "But I am afraid that this visit isn't simply to reconnect." You sighed, life could never just be simple, could it?

"I had a feeling." You stooped to clean the glass, inviting them to sit while you picked up the pieces. Nightwolf politely declined while fujin stopped to help you.

"Rain has returned. Along with Mileena." If you were drinking water, you were sure that you would've done a spit take. Your head snapped back to look up at fujin, heart almost stopping for a moment.

"I- I thought Mileena was-"

"Dead. We know. After the past and present merged she managed to worm her way into outworld again."

"And... and Rain?" Fujin and Nightwolf shared a look. Oh gods. They knew. They definitely knew. You busied yourself with the glass, taking the other pieces from Fujin and absent-mindedly walking over to the trashcan.

"Rain had resurfaced around the same time Mileena did. We caught them mid battle with an earthrelm man before both disappeared." The glass hitting the bottom of the trashcan was as much of a distraction you allowed yourself to have.

"Rain and I have cut ties. How does this involve me?"

Fujin spoke; "Kitana is now Kahn of outworld. Both he and Mileena want to take her throne, we are asking you to keep Rain in check while we deal with Mileena's uneveitable attack."

You froze for a moment, blankly staring into space. You would get to see Rain again. Maybe even have a chance to sort out the mixed emotions you've been holding in for so long. (By tracking him down and beating the shit out of him, of course. ) But most likely he would hold a grudge for the rest of time afterwards, despising you for "keeping him from his potential". Then again, you thought about Kitana. No, Kitana Kahn. For a moment all you could think about is how proud you were of her. Your old friend, restored to her kinder self and now ruler of outworld. It took a moment but you finally gave the two men an answer.

"I'll do it."

The men nodded.

"Buy us as much time as you can."

----

This was such a bad idea.

You had tracked Rain down in less than a day, and now as he stood before you, you prayed the swell of your broken heart would go down before you choked on your new mission.

Rain was roasting fish over a small campfire in the thickest part of the jungle you had ever been to, a wide smirk on his face. He was not at all surprised to see you, in fact, something about him seemed... different. More genuine. But maybe that is just the hunter part of your brain speaking. The more distracted the target is the easier the takedown will be. He called your name.

"It's good to see you," you swallowed hard, starting to regret agreeing to this before you spoke.

"I wish I could say the same." He stood, sauntering over to you. For a just a moment, his facade almost dropped at your words. You almost didn't catch it. Was he sick? What had happened to the rain you knew? The lair, the theif? No. He hadn't changed, you had to be over analyzing everything about him.

"I believe I know why you are here. Does your support of Kitana really outweigh our past?" The way he said your name after almost made you choke. You narrowed your eyes at him, curling your fists.

"Trust me. That kindness I showed you then won't transfer into Kombat."

The fight was a difficult one, and yet you still won. The demigod, exhausted and face down in the brush, could no longer fight. As you wound your enchanted rope around his wrists, Rain started to chuckle.

"I'm starting to wish I never gifted you that rope." A sly smile plastered itself on your face as you continued to focus on the knots.

"It was designed to help me keep your brothers trapped, you should've known the risks when you commissioned it." Rain mumbled something petty, and you replied by yanking him up off the dirt and into a sitting position, leaving him for just a moment to prod at the dying embers of his fire. You could practically feel his stare burning into the back of your head as he eyed you from behind.

"You are still just as beautiful as I remember." You were thankfull for the setting sun as your cheeks flushed red. He had never sounded so genuine about a compliment before.

"Flattery won't get you out of this." You stated as you sat down next to him, biting into the fish that he was cooking earlier. Damn. The taste was nice reminder of your old days together.

"Worth a try." You snickered at him. His personality surely hadn't changed much, but the way he glanced at you every once in a while caught you off guard. The beating of your heart being a disappointing reminder that you still loved him.

"I realized something the day you left," His drawl of your name caught your attention, but you said nothing, continuing to stare into the small, dying, fire.

"I know you will not believe me, not now, not ever. But I never truly knew how much I cared for you until you were walking away from me." Absolutely not. No. FUCK No. He was not going to do this to you now. GODS you hated how genuine he sounded, how genuine he seemed. It felt like anger and something else were stabbing the inside of your lungs and ripping out pieces of yourself.

And yet part of you knew that for once, he wasn't lying when he said that. At this point, logic had all but escaped from your mind. Grabbing him by the collar of his stupid purple armor, you stared in his eyes, searching for any sort of indication that this was all some well performed lie. But...

Rain was being genuine. He thought that he could rule alone, but the loss of your support ment a more to him than he thought anything ever could. And he hoped that after everything, you would believe him. (This did not mean he would just ignore the fact that you have him under arrest at this moment, however.)

"If I ever find out that you are lying, I'm killing you on the spot. Understand?!" Rain smiled widely as your eyes bore into him. He knew you were serious, you always had been one to keep promises.

When he leaned forward to kiss you, the anger dissipated just a bit, but your resolve, as always, remained the same. You never thought that a kiss would feel so good.

Shang Tsung:

He’d find your excitement with music adorable

You would be rambling on and on about the lore behind specific artists and music video theories and he’d sit there listening to every word with a gentle smile on his face. He absolutely loves it when you gush like this

When you tried to get him to listen to different genres, he’d object at first because he feels as though he wouldn’t enjoy it. He feels like there’s too much of an age gap between him and the music that’s popular these days

That is, until you introduced him to the old, classical musical of the 16th century

Now THAT he can get behind

Shang Tsung listens to all the villain-sounding piano and violin classical music. It’s not because he specifically goes looking for it, the songs just find him

The first time you caught Shang listening to Earthrealm music, he was in his study with an old record player that looked like it came from the 16th century

“Lacrimosa” was playing from the music device as Shang watched over the hovering feather pen that was possibly writing someone’s eulogy (i hc shang to be able to control things using a soul power similar to telepathy. yes, whatever he controls has a green aura around it. it’s cool as fuck)

He immediately noticed your presence when you walked in and he looked up at you with a smile, but between him hunched over with floating pens and the villainous music playing, you didn’t know whether to walk any further or turn tail and run

Shang would later tell you that classical music helps him focus so if you hear any loud organ playing in the dead of night, that’s just Shang being silly, goofy Shang 💆‍♀️

Shao Kahn:

When you show him your favorite artists and songs, he’d shrug you off at first and insult your taste

But behind closed doors he’d listen to your mentioned songs on repeat, trying to decode your obsession with it

He’d be a little jealous that there’s something you’re fond of that he isn’t automatically the best at

No, he’d be VERY envious and would become even more of an arrogant asshole just to prove a point

Overtime when you expose him to different genres, he’d discover phonk and rap and he’d 100% start blasting that at maximum volume around the palace

Specific songs he listens to include: “Midnight” by PLAYAMANE, “Draco” by Playboi Carti, and “Nonstop” by Drake

Thanks to you, Shao Kahn is gonna have some kind of Carti song blasting before every battle

Interestingly enough, there will come a time when Shao would prefer Earthrealm music over the music of Outworld, his reasoning being that Outworld music isn’t “loud enough” (the real reason is because Outworld music doesn’t have Playboi Carti on its tracks 💔💔💔)

Kotal Kahn:

Similar to Shang, he’d find it endearing to see you so happy about something and he’ll be more than willing to give it a listen

Kotal is man who puts tradition and culture first so he’ll take the time to learn about the music that you enjoy and music from your culture

Even if he doesn’t particularly enjoy a specific genre that you do, he’ll still be respectful and listen to it with you

But for the most part, he enjoys whatever you enjoy

Kotal would also introduce you Rodian music and he’d be elated when he finds out how much you love it <333

👑 Oh my goodness, loves baby regressors, but is also so scared to accidently hurt you!!! :(

👑 Your so precious and soft, warrior or not, now your his little baby

👑 Kotal's a big guy, and he's a little afraid of accidentally grabbing you slightly too hard or set you down wrong

👑 You gotta make sure to tell him that he's going to be okay hugging and carrying you because he's obviously being gentle and he's never hurt you in the past (he's just being cautious)

👑 But honestly, this man is a cuddle bug, he adores cuddling with you and squeezing you and oh my goodness you're just so adorable!!

👑 Adores tummy time but more specifically, when you lay on top of him

👑 Finds it entertaining if you try to eat his nose because of how small you are

👑 He finds a lot of things you do funny

👑 Holding into his finger tightly before he dared moved your bottle slightly out of your mouth? He didn't know you had such a powerful grip!!

👑 Getting fussy and the only thing that will calm you down is either your paci, or chewing on his hand (he's okay with it), how interesting

👑 If you go nonverbal or mostly just babble, his supporting of it!! And encourages it!!

👑 But uh . . . He wasn't the best with it at first.

👑 Got a bit confused with babbling, especially when you first do it

👑 Like, it's adorable, little one . . . But what are you saying??

👑 Don't worry, he gets better over time, and adores it when you just babble to him like it's a normal conversation

👑 Panics the first time you babbled because you wanted or needed something and ran around the room confused

👑 Treats you like royalty!!! You are his little prince/princess/Little royalty after all

👑 You saw something you wanted at the market? Already buying it, it doesn't really matter the price. Yummy food that looks delicious? It’ll already be in your hands

👑 Who's going to question a Kahn after all? Especially if it's during MKX, he gets a little less stricter around MK11

👑 Since your so young, you get away with a lot of things because your so small

👑 (^ Also you couldn't have MEANT do it, so there's no real need to take action)

👑 If your a bit older though, he'd probably give you a time out and no amount of fussing will change his mind (justice must be served and what not)

👑 Although if you begin crying . . . he'll most likely drop it

👑 I'm not sure exactly how his powers work, but I know he can do stuff with light?? Like, sun powers?

👑 He'll be your night light, don't you worry (or atleast keep a small beam until you fast asleep)

👑 If your a very sleepy little, that works out perfectly for both you and him

👑 You get to cuddle up to him and he gets to carry you around everywhere? Sign him up!! :D

👑 No one, and I mean no one, will ever judge you for regressing out in public (someone did once and they were ‘let go’ of their position)

👑 More MK11 Aftermath, but even if he isn't Kahn anymore, he still treats you like royalty

👑 I like to imagine him and Jade (or atleast him) were put back into General command so he still has some power

👑 Kitana adores you and not only do you have the General on your side, but the entire royal house

👑 No ones making fun of you, and you get spoiled >:3

👑 Kotal's favorite CG nicknames are Ko-Ko, Papa, Dada, and Ko-Ta

👑 So many nicknames for you!!! Mostly royalty related, but also likes calling you Pumpkin, Sweetheart, Baby Girl/Boy, Little One

👑 Favorite activity is to just cradle you in his arm

👑 Your just so . . . tiny, and small in his arms

👑 (^ is also really helps you feel small)

👑 He'll happily bottle feed you, or walk around the room and bounce you until you fall asleep

👑 Likes to help you with little activities!!

👑 You'll sit on his lap and try to figure out what blocks go into what

👑 Will praise you and give you candy when you've done it all correctly!! :D

👑 (^ Although if you just hand him the block . . . he'll do it for you, and still give you candy)

👑 Unfortunately, no thumb sucking allowed >:(

👑 Instead he gets you a paci or a teether

👑 But like, a really fancy decorated paci

👑 And one of the best tethers you can find

👑 Only the best for his baby, after all!!

👑 However, if your out in public or don't have access to your stuff, he'll allow it for now

👑 Will buy you 100 and 1 stuffies, and still buy you more if you request

👑 HE is slowly losing bedspace

👑 Why? Because the stuffies need a spot to sleep!! And his bed’s so big already!! 🥺
