Some WLW (?) Jdrama & Kdrama recommendations!
Tumblr media
Jdramas and Kdramas have a (not-entirely-unearned) reputation for being very straight, but here are a few which are either canonically F/F or which prominently feature a female-female pair-- please enjoy! For those who enjoy following series in real time, Chaser Game W and She Loves to Cook, and She Loves to Eat S2 are both airing this January 2024 :)
As with my post on anime with yuri subtext, since subtext is so subjective, this list only includes series which I’ve actually watched, and so is by no means intended to be comprehensive. Also, it doesn't include any webseries, since those probably deserve a post of their own.
At-a-glance list:
Miss Sherlock (8 episodes, 2018) (subtext)
Night Light (20 episodes, 2016) (subtext)
Tokusatsu Gagaga (7 episodes, 2019) (subtext)
Painter of the Wind (20 episodes, 2008) (canon?)
She Loves to Cook, and She Loves to Eat (10 15-minute episodes and counting, 2022~) (canon)
Sono Toki, Heart wa Nusumareta (5 episodes, 1992) (canon)
Chaser Game W (10? 30-minute episodes, 2024) (canon)
Doctor X (7 seasons and counting, 2012~) (subtext)
Bonus: SKY Castle (20 episodes, 2018) (subtext)
Summaries under the cut!
1. Miss Sherlock / ミス・シャーロック (8 episodes, 2018) (subtext) – MyDramaList | AsianWiki
Tumblr media
The elevator pitch for this show is simple: it’s Sherlock Holmes, but where Holmes and Watson – here named “Sherlock” and Tachibana Wato, and played by Takeuchi Yuko and Kanjiya Shihori, respectively – are both female, and the cases are all set in modern Tokyo. As with other adaptations, mystery-solving and the budding relationship between the two leads takes centre stage, but Miss Sherlock manages to carve out an identity all its own.
There’s a calm beauty to its visuals, which favour sunlight and urban greenery, and the show’s focus on former doctor Wato as she tries out new jobs and goes to therapy means that there’s a surprisingly high number of slice-of-life scenes. It’s also subtly more female-focused than the source material; Sherlock’s gossipy but good-natured landlady Ms. Hatano (Ito Ran) is as much a member of the household as Sherlock and Wato, and the cases often revolve around female characters. But more than anything, it’s just really fun to watch Sherlock and Wato’s relationship bloom as they snip and snipe and are utterly unable to stay out of each other’s space (literally – the body language and blocking is *chef’s kiss*). Their relationship is the heart of the show – watch this one until the end, you won’t regret it!
(CW: psychological abuse, manipulation, and genre-typical murder, violence, and gore)
2. Night Light / 불야성 (20 episodes, 2016) (subtext) - MyDramaList | AsianWiki
Tumblr media
(Note: spoilers for the mid-season twist, but it’s impossible to allude to a good portion of the F/F subtext without doing so, and I think knowing the twist ahead of time doesn’t make it any less enjoyable.)
Night Light is a rather odd show. It’s simple enough on the face of it, a story about  successful but ruthless CEO Seo Yi-kyung (an icy Lee Yo-won) who tries to mold the younger Lee Se-jin (a puppy-eyed Uee) in her own ambitious image, only for her protege to develop the conscience she never had and move to stop her dastardly plans… but upon watching it’s a totally different creature,  thanks to the alchemic reactions of some delightfully contradictory acting choices (Uee’s performance convinces viewers less of Se-jin’s supposed latent desire for power and money, and more of a deep love and devotion for the CEO) and the unintentionally (?) inneundo-laden script (“If I like something once, I never forget it– whether it’s a dress… or a person,” declares the CEO less than ten minutes into the first episode while gazing intently at Se-jin).
Honestly, it’s a wonder this series ever got made, but you certainly won’t see me complaining! The first part is full of boss/subordinate goodness; Se-jin is unable to resist the CEO’s magnetic pull despite her hot-and-cold behaviour, while the CEO cannot bring herself to push Se-jin away completely. And then, when Se-jin makes her mind up to stop the CEO, it morphs into a corporate take on a (subtextual) lovers-on-opposite-sides situation, where it is precisely Se-jin’s feelings for the CEO that motivate her to stop her. In short, it’s a workplace GL fan’s dream.
Note: If you do watch it, skip the corporate politicking cutscenes with the old men, you’ll thank me later. Also, there’s a prominent male character who is the CEO’s ex and who works closely with Se-jin in the second half, but don’t worry, all the M/F romance is in the past (and doesn’t get much screentime)– he and Se-jin aren’t interested in each other at all.
3. Tokusatsu Gagaga / トクサツガガガ (7 episodes, 2019) (subtext) - MyDramaList | AsianWiki
Tumblr media
Nakamura Kano (Koshiba Fuka) lives and breathes tokusatsu shows (think Power Rangers, if you’re not familiar), but keeps it a secret from her work colleagues to avoid being shunned or laughed at. And yet she yearns for connection, so when she sees a woman on the subway bearing a keychain from her favourite show (Yoshida Hisami, played by Kurashina Kana), she is determined to find her again.
Although ostensibly about being a tokusatsu fan as an adult, this show is rife with queer subtext, and not in the usual way. It deals with the difficulties of staying in the closet (regarding being an adult tokusatsu fan), the desire to connect with other queer people adult tokusatsu fans and how one might do so through hints and signals, parental disapproval arising from gendered and social expectations (that tokusatsu shows are for boys, and magical girl shows for girls), intersectionality and finding comradeship with other minorities people who are excluded due to their interests, and even generational gaps wherein younger queers fans may underestimate the obstacles that still exist. Although all that might sound a bit stressful, it isn’t actually! Difficult incidents are handled with sympathy and a dash of wry humour, and the show never loses sight of the fact that it – above all else – is a story about finding queer community in the face of a heteronormative hostile world, told with warmth and the nuance of lived experience.
4. Painter of the Wind / 바람의 화원 (20 episodes, 2008) (canon?) - MyDramaList | AsianWiki
Tumblr media
Adapting the novel of the same name by Lee Jung-myung, Painter of the Wind takes as its protagonist a gender-bent version of real-life Joseon-era painter Shin Yun-bok (Moon Geun-young), whose paintings are used to weave a tale of artistry, political intrigue, and romance, and more than anything else to offer modern-day viewers a glimpse of everyday life in 18th-century Korea.
While it may sound like Dickinson’s boring cousin, apart from having a common preoccupation with reframing historical works, another similarity the two shows share is that Painter of the Wind is also very gay. Starting from the first episode, Yun-bok meets and becomes fascinated by the courtesan Jung-hyang (Moon Chae-won), who despite her initial aloofness is drawn to Yun-bok’s intellect and sensitive demeanour. It’s a real meeting of the minds, their witty repartee in early episodes reminiscent of Twelfth Night’s Viola and Olivia, and their relationship isn’t siloed off from the main plot either: Yun-bok’s infatuation quickly starts causing issues with her academic career, and the two eventually have to contend with Jung-hyang’s precarious position as a courtesan as well.
Unfortunately, all this is undermined in the back half of the show, which tries to gaslight viewers into thinking that Yun-bok’s feelings for Jung-hyang were purely platonic all along and that she totally has romantic feelings for her much older male mentor— but hey, at least it’s an open ending. Despite everything, though, I can’t think of another serious historical TV show which features such a prominent F/F narrative for its main character, even nearly two decades later. (Let me know if you have any others! And no, Gentleman Jack doesn’t count, it’s not exactly traditional in style!)
(CW: period-typical sexism)
5. She Loves to Cook, and She Loves to Eat / 作りたい女と食べたい女 (10 15-minute episodes and counting, 2022~) (canon) - MyDramaList
Tumblr media
Based on Yuzaki Sakaomi’s manga of the same name, this simple but sweet show follows home-cooking extraordinaire Nomoto Yuki (Higa Manami), who yearns to cook large-scale dishes but doesn’t eat enough to justify making them. Luckily for her, her neighbour Kasuga Totoko (Nishino Emi) has a massive appetite!
It’s always lovely to see more grounded stories about working women, especially when they’re as cute as this one. Though it touches upon some slightly more serious issues, such as with regard to gendered expectations surrounding food and cooking, it’s primarily a feel-good slice-of-life show about two women getting to know each other by cooking and eating delicious food together.
Side note: if you’ve started it and think the show doesn’t look cosy enough, stick it out for a few more episodes, the production values improve after the first part! Also, the series was renewed for a second season with double the episode count (for a total of 20 episodes) which will start airing on January 29th this year, so this is the perfect time to jump in!
6. Sono Toki, Heart wa Nusumareta / その時、ハートは盗まれた (5 episodes, 1992) (canon) - MyDramaList
Tumblr media
Sono Heart, as it’s nicknamed, starts off as a typical heteronormative high school romance: bumbling protagonist Shiina Hiroko (Isshiki Sae) is desperate to get closer to her crush Katase Masato (Kimura Takuya), star of the school basketball team and all-round nice dude. However, a spanner in the works comes slouching along in the form of female classmate Aso Saki (Uchida Yuki, in her debut role), a mischievous, short-haired personification of trouble who Katase turns out to have feelings for. One day, Hiroko gets into a fight with Saki, and they end up having to stay together after school as punishment. But that afternoon gives them the opportunity to bond over a heart-to-heart conversation, and things seem to improve… until, just before leaving, Saki kisses Hiroko. And then everything changes.
Or rather, everything changes eventually. What’s great about this show is that it doesn’t take shortcuts: Hiroko doesn’t instantly fall in love with Saki. Instead, what you get is a surprisingly layered portrait of a high school girl whose coming to terms with queerness is merely a natural extension of reckoning with her burgeoning sexuality. And, because Saki is self-destructive in her depression and makes a game of belittling, worrying, and infuriating anyone who cares about her, it’s really a story about what it means to love another person rather than a romantic ideal. A word of warning, though: Katase is actually quite a large character, as he and Hiroko end up becoming friends. Also, the ending is very abrupt and inconclusive, though rest assured that it doesn’t try to roll back Hiroko’s feelings, or pair either girl off with a guy.
(CW: self-harm, attempted suicide, bullying, homophobia, underage drinking)
7. Chaser Game W: Power Harassment Boss Is My Ex-Girlfriend / チェイサーゲームW: パワハラ上司は私の元カノ (10? 30-minute episodes, 2024) (canon) - MyDramaList | AsianWiki
Tumblr media
Probably jumping the gun here as only two episodes have aired as of writing, but I feel honour-bound to recommend this as it’d probably appeal to a lot of people, if only they knew about it! Chaser Game W is a standalone spin-off of Chaser Game, itself an adaptation of a manga of the same name by Matsuyama Hiroshi and Matsushima Yukitarou, but you don’t need to know anything going in.
Protagonist Harumoto Itsuki (former Keyakizaka46 captain Sugai Yuuka) has been assigned a new job: her company has been asked by a Chinese conglomerate to develop a game adaptation of a GL manhua, and she’s been tapped as the project leader. However, what appears to be an exciting prospect soon becomes a terrifying one, as the person sent by the client to supervise turns out to be her ex-girlfriend from university (Lin Dongyu, played by Japanese actress Nakamura Yurika), who is now married to a Chinese man (played by a Japanese actor) and has a child, but remains hell-bent on exacting revenge on Itsuki for their bad breakup. This is a romantic (melo)drama rather than a psychological thriller, though, so you won’t be watching Itsuki getting terrorised the entire time. While she is understandably upset by her ex’s current behaviour, Itsuki can’t forget about their happy days together, and Dongyu herself veers between being a sneering bully and craving Itsuki’s affection.
Do note that the show isn’t without its flaws: it’s very Japanese about the Chinese thing, which is to say it’s filled with comments which range from somewhat offensive to borderline racist, and the script will probably give you a headache if you know even the slightest thing about game development. Your mileage might vary on the ex too, as she can be really quite nasty to Itsuki and her teammates. But if you can overlook those issues, this is a rare prize indeed: a TV drama focusing on a canonical F/F pair, who are specifically exes, and in a workplace setting.
(CW: bullying)
8. Doctor X / ドクターX (7 seasons and counting, 2012~) (subtext) - MyDramaList | AsianWiki
Tumblr media
To be very honest, I was in two minds about including Doctor X on this list. It is, with a few notable exceptions, misogynistic and reductive in its depictions of women (especially in the first two seasons), gives too much screentime to objectively awful and subjectively annoying men, doesn’t respect the work done by medical personnel apart from surgeons, and on the technical front is formulaic, repetitive, and often lazy in its writing and presentation. Unfortunately, the dynamic between the genius surgeon protagonist Daimon Michiko (Yonekura Ryoko) and her anaesthesiologist wife partner friend Jounouchi Hiromi (Uchida Yuki) is almost unparalleled in its excellence.
The premise of the series is basic indeed: Daimon Michiko is a freelance surgeon with a healthy disrespect of rules and authority and, unluckily for her detractors, a cast-iron guarantee that she will succeed in any surgery, no matter how difficult. She’s initially portrayed as a lone wolf who’s dismissive of the entire hospital system and anyone who’s part of it— but her interest is piqued by the anaesthesiologist Jounouchi, who is skilled beyond her peers and chafes against the idiocy of her colleagues. For all its flaws, the first season – which is more serious and edgy in tone compared to the others, and isn’t an ensemble cast like the post-S3 seasons – is a fantastic depiction of two people being perfectly matched in skill, intellect, and outlook, and how they come together despite one being standoffish (Jounouchi) and the other not being used to reaching out to or even respecting other people (Daimon).
The seasons after that sadly ditch the emphasis on Jounouchi being Daimon’s professional equal, but in exchange offer up another rare and unexpected gift: two women in their late thirties / early forties who are partners both at work and in private. Jounouchi is Daimon’s designated anaesthesiologist, assisting with nearly every surgery, and she spends so much time at Daimon’s agency-office-slash-house you’d think she’d moved in. Also, after a point they just start being wonderfully dorky and comfortable with each other, while still being consummate professionals in the operating theatre. Although the show is very much focused on Daimon Michiko as its sole protagonist, Jounouchi is undoubtedly the character most significant to her – even more than Daimon’s father figure, the head of the freelance agency – and this is highlighted in the story from time to time. They are very, very good. I just wish the series was better.
Note: If you’re curious, I would recommend watching the very first episode in full– by the end you should know if you’re invested enough to continue, otherwise drop it and live in the happy knowledge that you dodged a bullet. If you aren’t so lucky, I’d advise skipping the surgery segments when they start to bore, and in general to skip liberally. Also, season 4 is not worth watching as a whole, except for the last two episodes, which absolutely should not be missed. Sigh. I can’t speak to seasons 6 and 7, due to having paused mid-S6.
Side note: If you’ve watched Doctor X already and liked it (or at least like Daimon and Jounouchi), but haven’t tried Miss Sherlock yet, definitely give that a go because there seems to be a big overlap in the fandoms. Maybe it’s because they both feature a genius protagonist, have the two largest female characters being work partners, and domestic vibes…?
(CW: sexism, genre-typical gore)
Bonus: SKY Castle / SKY 캐슬 (20 episodes, 2018) (subtext) - MyDramaList | AsianWiki
Tumblr media
(Note: slight spoilers for the early episodes, but it’s necessary in order to give a more accurate recommendation regarding the F/F subtext, especially as the show is not primarily focused on any one relationship.)
This one’s a bonus because unlike the others on this list, there’s no close relationship between two female characters which could be interpreted in a romantic light. That’s not too surprising as the show is all about the women of a several super-wealthy families trying to get their children into the top Korean universities (equivalent to the Ivy League) whilst supporting their husbands in the rat race: a decidedly heteronormative premise, albeit one that’s executed in an award-winning manner.
So why am I listing it? Well, it’s because somehow, in this series about heteronormative and highly gendered nuclear families, it features possibly the most erotically-charged dynamic I have seen, even taking season 1 of Killing Eve into account. (Though it takes some time to get there, so if you try it out, please watch at least the first four episodes before making a decision!)
That honour goes to the problematic gem that is the relationship between the main character Han Seo-jin (Yum Jung-ah), who is willing to do whatever it takes to get her daughter into Seoul’s top medical school, and star tutor Kim Joo-young (Kim Seo-hyung), who is known for her 100% success rate. It starts off with a mild push-and-pull, when Han Seo-jin wants Coach Kim to take on her daughter, but is wary of the shady rumours surrounding her; the tutor stands firm, and Han eventually has to swallow her pride and accept the risks. Where it really comes into its own, though, is when Coach Kim starts to pose a legitimate threat to everything Han cares for: her daughter, her marriage (or rather, what her husband can give her), her position in the world. It becomes increasingly clear that Han should just walk away, and indeed she tries to do so many a time, only to bend in the end because the coach is key to fulfilling her dearest wish– and so to Han, for all she rages and resents and fears, Coach Kim is nothing less than temptation itself. This is the beating core of the show, and even as the plotting disintegrates and falls into melodrama in the second half, their scenes together still crackle with delicious tension every time. Watch it.
(CW: suicide, psychological abuse, child abuse, bullying, murder)

BBC Sherlock taking John and Sherlock’s relationship for granted creates a rift in the narrative
I have already pointed out in previous post how disappointed I was that John and Sherlock relationship never developed, in a way it should and would have been justified by the narrative
In this point I want to look at how their relationship started and how this was already created the first problems. This review contains multiple spoilers for other Sherlock Holmes shows.
When John and Sherock meet for the fisrt time in ASIP they immediatley start working together.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
No hesitation. They both went full in, from minute one onwards. This is a nice way of showing how well John and Sherlock work together, and that they think alike. But on the other hand it feels like Mofftiss took the relationship for granted and said: "These are John and Sherlock. Of course they work perfectly which each other. We do not have to talk about that."
But imo that was TOO fast. There is no conflict. They never have time to discuss where they stand in this relationship. And because Mofftiss pretend, that they work perfectly together, from minute one onwards - even though they just met - it is hard to further develop their relationship from here on. Because it is already perfect. You would need something really big to happen for them to redefine their roles in this relationship. We kind of had that in season 4, but we knew how messy that went. And there was never a TALK after that. Thats also a main problem in this show. John and Sherlock never really talk. It is John who often sits down and talks and Sherlock is not listening. Of course the relationship is developing, but the show never uses its whole potential.
So what would have been a better way of handling their first meeting? A first meeting that allows them to naturelly grow into the relationship... and further develop their relationship?
Elementary
Yeah I am gonna drag Elementary into this again. BBC Sherlock and Elementray share a really similar set up. They meet each other for the first time, and immeditaly move in and start solving cases together. But Elemenetary gives John and Sherlock time to grow into the relastionship.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This moment defines the Joanlock relationship imo. It shows that Joan is ready to confront Sherlock and call out his bullshit, that Sherlock listens and is effected by what Joan thinks and says, that Sherlock still has a lot of work to do. AND - most importantly - that a Johnlock relationship takes effort and is nothing that you can take for granted.
And this show was on air for 7 seasons, with 22 episodes each. Nevertheless the relationship was developing the whole time. In future seasons they are recalling their first meeting, honoring how much they have grown.
Tumblr media
Resulting in:
Tumblr media
gif by: @marlahey
This is something we never got in BBC Sherlock. We never saw them honoring the growth they made, recalling their first meeting, and having a satisifying conculsion, aka: "I love you" (in what way doesn't matter btw. The Joanlock moment wasn't romantic either).
Of course you could agrue now: "But Elementary did had the time for stuff like that, BBC Sherlock only had 4 seasons, with 3 episodes each."
So let us look at The Irregulars next:
This show starts as a usual crime detective show... with a supernatural twist. But slowly you learn that the core point of the show is the relationship between Sherlock Holmes and John Watson.
The show is set years after Holmes and Watsons first meeting. Actually when we first meet John his relationship with Sherlock is over already, broken and ruined. Later we - the viewer - get multiple flashback scene, showing us how they first met, how their relationship developed, and why they are not talking with each other anymore, resulting in this glorious moment:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But the show doesn't stop there, it even goes further and shows us how John and Sherlock slowly get closer to each other again. Sitting in the dark, discussing their relationship, the mistakes they made and most important: apologizing.
Tumblr media
Still angry at Netflix for cancelling the show.
Of Course we also have other approaches. RDJ Sherlock.
Like BBC Sherlock it leans much more into Crime aspect of the story. But the story still centers around Holmes and Watsons relationship. When we first meet them they have been together long, probably for years. They are already settled in their relationship. They both know their roles in this relationship and they both feel comfortable with it. They behave like an old married couple. And when they fight, it is never serious. The first real problems erupt when Watson decides to marry. And thats the whole core problem of the first movie: Watson moving out of 221B to marry a woman and how Holmes deals with that. He develops from more or less boycotting the marriage to accepting it and gifting Mary and Watson a ring.
The second movie is him trying to accept that his love of his life best friend is married now and trying to solve cases on his own, without Watson. Eventually sacrificing his own life to safe Watson AND Mary. So even though the movies are crime movies, the Johnlock relationship is still the heart of the story.
If the movies wouldn't focus on the Johnlock relationship, the story would be a different one.
Many Johnlock moments in the movies are non-verbal, so excuse the extensive use of gifs here. But there is so much happening on a non-verbal level!
For example the wedding, which is a huge Johnlock moment. John being super nervous before his wedding and you see that Holmes is not happy either, but he still nods, letting Watson know that it is okay and that Watson is making the right decision.
Tumblr media
But nevertheless he has to look away when Mary and Watson kiss. The message is clear here. He isn't happy, he is sad because he is loosing the most important person in his life.
Tumblr media
Then we have moments like this, (see below) where - during a moment of danger - they cling to each other, making sure the other one is safe. Not being afraid of physical contact. This is something I was also missing in BBC sherlock btw. Physical they always made sure to stay away from each other. When they hugged it was like... a big thing. Which - set in modern times - felt a little bit off. Because in contrast to Miss Sherlock (see below) Holmes was never shown to be actively against physical contact. I wish the production team would have allowed more friendly touches. I mean... ACD Johnlock walks around arm-in-arm and John gets nervous everytime Holmes comes close, because "poeple might talk." Nah...
Tumblr media
I think A game of shadows, peaked when Watson and Holmes danced. Because it shows that they have a deep connection. They came from a place where they acted like an old married couple, then being all nervous because of the Watson/Marry wedding, having to re-identify their relationship towards each other, to this finale dance, where - symbolically- they are a couple again. Everything came full circle. It is like: No matter what happens around Watson and Holmes, they will always find their way back to each other. They will always be the center of the story. It will always be them against the rest of the world, no matter what. No excuses.
Tumblr media
But acually, the adaptation most close to BBC Sherlock is Miss Sherlock. I mean... it was basically a female japanese copy of BBC Sherlock.
But still... it improved a lot of things. When Sherlock and Wato (Watson) first meet they really can not stand each other. This Sherlock is also rude, but it is really clear that she is on the autism spectrum. She gets overhelmed by too much light and by loud noises. She is really against phyisal contact.
And the most beautiful thing about this adaptation: It knows that in the end Watson will always be Sherlocks weakness. It will not say: "Don't try to drown in the well. Good luck. I am off hugging my sister." (season 4 shade). In Miss Sherlock the finale conflict is: Watson being manipulated to work against Sherlock. Showing, that in the end, it all boils down to their relationship again. And this adaptation wrote a scene that is just.. chef kiss!
When Wato is around, Sherlock is all grumpy towards her. But during the finale Wato is kidnapped. And the show gives us a short look into one of Sherlocks most private moments. The moment she realizes that Wato is kidnapped. A moment where Sherlock is completly alone. And we see a honest and extremly vunerable moment. This one:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sherlock screaming Watos name in agony. Knowing that she NEEDS Wato. And then she goes and risks everything to save Wato. EVERYTHING!
Her reputation and her life. She is even ready to be killed by Wato.
Tumblr media
TL.DR:
So what am I trying to say? That BBC Johnlock has no relationship development? That there isn't any trust between them? Nope, course not.
We see John and Sherlock growing into the relationship, we see Sherlock getting softer because of John, we see John healing because of Sherlock and on the other hand we see Sherlock opening up, telling Watson whats really on his mind. Trying to be a better human, being more social. But imo that should have been the plot of idk... the first season, maybe the second one. Because thats just the beginning. A Johnlock relationship is so mch deeper, holds so much more story potential. Yeah, John and Sherlock belong to ecah other and are good for each other. We know that! Is Sherlock ready to confess his (plantonic) love for Watson by the end of the show? Is Watson so jealous of Sherlocks love interest that he opens a rift in the universe? Is Sherlock having a break down, screaming out Watsons name in agony? I don't want to see John being replaced by a balloon in season 4 (!) and it is played for a joke. Their relationship should be so so so much deeper at that point. For me BBC Sherlock felt like, they stop mid-relationship-development. It feels like Mofftiss said: "John and Sherlock work well with each other and are best friend. What else is there to say?" SO! MUCH! MORE!
They had all this potential, and went nowhere with it. And i don't necessarily mean romantically btw. Eveen Hilson drove into the sunset together eventually...

BBC Sherlock fans are always so funny to me because like. In terms of Johnlock as a relationship, I'm genuinely surprised that BBC Sherlock was the one to really set that relationship into motion (modern adaptation wise) Because literally in any other modern adaptation they have more/better chemistry

Sherlock² (Sherlock bbc x Fem Sherlock! Reader)
Summary: When one stunned them, another was also stunned with them
Warning: It's Sherlock he's smart. Odd behavior, reader is Sherlock 2.0 but more weird, Dead body, awkwardness, fluff, shyness, explode, gruesome, reader personality based on Miss Sherlock from HBO, Dhani character is me.
As usual, I'm sorry if there are any wrong sentences or typos or grammatical mistakes, please forgive me and again English is not my first language, so I try to improve my language and writing in this way.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
"Edith Kingsley, 30 years old was found dead in his home with an explosion in his stomach. He was found by his maid this morning" Lestrade explained to Sherlock and John as they entered the morgue.
John nodded while Sherlock had no reaction but his eyes were focused on the two body bags on the table in front of him. Lestrade went to one of the body bags and looked at Sherlock and John.
"Now, I don't expect you two to be surprised by the condition of this body, but just a warning. The condition of this body is quite unpleasant judging by the impact of the explosion in his stomach, causing his stomach to have a big hole" Lestrade warned them both. His finger was already on the zipper of the bag.
"we've been through enough" Sherlock muttered.
John loosened his collar a little and nodded in agreement. Lestrade nodded, without hurrying unzipped the body bag. John and Lestrade were stunned as they laid their eyes on the contents of the body bag.
There lay a woman who was Sherlock's age with a dark brown trench coat while her hand was placed on her stomach. Her peaceful face made them confused. Lestrade let out a short breath.
"Y/n! " Lestrade snapped at the woman firmly.
The woman in question was startled and woke up. Her dull eyes looked around before falling on Lestrade. She let out a heavy sigh while smiling a little.
"Morning.. or should I say afternoon? or night?" You said then got up and sat down not taking your eyes off Lestrade.
"How many times have I told you not to sleep in a body bag? It's been 3 times you've done this. I swear to god, if anything happens to you, this body bag is what you'll put in" Lestrade massaged the bridge of his nose.
"Then you should put my name on this body bag because I can legally book this body bag" You scratched your head and let out a small yawn.
"For god's sake, Y/n. Get down now" Lestrade commanded you.
You groaned in protest and got out of the body bag and got off the table and patted and rubbed your dark brown trench coat to remove the wrinkles with both of your hands.
"What are you doing here, Y/n? Didn't I give you time off to recover your broken hand?" Lestrade said, tired of your behavior.
"My hand is okay, I came here to open the cement but I got distracted and was invited by myself to come in here" You said idly.
You still didn't notice the other two men who were with you as your focus was only on Lestrade. John and Sherlock seem to be observing your and Lestrade's conversation oddly. In their minds there is only one question which is 'who is this woman?'. Lestrade's situation around this woman is like a father scolding his daughter.
"Are you messing with the dead here?" Lestrade started to get panicked as he walked towards the other body bag. Body bag that contains a real corpse.
He unzipped the body bag and observed the body to find what you had done to the body but found nothing.
"seriously, a dead body with explosion marks in his stomach. Interesting tho, I just looked at his stomach contents but found this tiny chip in his stomach" you scratched your head and took out a pill bottle that contained chips from your trench coat pocket. Then you threw the pill bottle at Lestrade to which Lestrade was able to catch it.
Sherlock raised his eyebrows impressed with what you did.
"You can't just do anything to this corpse without permission" Lestrade argued.
"Molly said ok" You looked at Lestrade innocently.
"You-"
"Y/n!"
The three men looked at the source of the voice. There stood a woman wearing a white shirt with a cardigan outside and a tote bag in her hand. Her face holds a concerned face.
You turned and looked at your partner and smiled a little.
"Dhani, hey" you waved at her.
Dhani's worried face changed to furious and strode towards you quickly and pulled your shirt collar firmly and pulled you out of the morgue.
"You're not at home, you're not at Scotland Yard either. I've been looking for you everywhere, even I've been in here 3 times looking for you. You disappeared for two hours and you were suddenly in the morgue. Luckily I asked Molly, you know?!" Dhani scolded you as she walked out of the morgue leaving the three men there.
"I'm sleepy that's why I-" your voice argued getting fainter little by little.
Everything became silent as the chaos duo left from there leaving three grown men there with gawked faces, confused and done with everything. Various of emotions running through them.
John glanced at Lestrade. "who's that?" he pointed his thumbs to the exit.
Lestrade sighed tiredly. "Y/n L/n and Dhani Omens. Y/n is our new transfer DI while Dhani is just her partner same like John. Doctor plus writer."
"so we get two Sherlocks and two.. me?" John murmured.
"You could say that" Lestrade nodded and looked around. "Now, back to business. Sherlock, come here"
Sherlock who looked at the exit idly walked towards the real body bag. His mind began to wander with you. Where did you come from?
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
"Listen, whatever you ask, don't ask her sensitive questions. She's just lost her husband so you better not ask her recklessly, understand?" Lestrade warned Sherlock.
Sherlock grunted and opened the conference room door. There you and Dhani sat facing the victim's wife who was sitting with a solemn face. Dhani looked concerned towards the middle-aged woman while you looked bored and sprawled on the chair. Your legs unconsciously push left and right to turn the wheeled office chair making you turn left and right partially.
Dhani noticed Lestrade enter the conference room, she then got up and greeted Lestrade.
"DI Lestrade, good afternoon" Dhani greeted him with a sweet smile.
"Doctor Omens, DI L/n" Lestrade nodded in return.
Sherlock and John then entered and looked around. Dhani noticed the two of them and greeted John first.
"Afternoon, Doctor Watson... I'm Dhani Omens.. So sorry about the burst I made earlier. She.. Y/n is always like that." Dhani looked down in shame.
John waving his hands, no problem sign. "no worries, Sherlock too, except sleeping in a body bag" John lightened up mood.
Dhani chuckled a little. Dhani then looked at Sherlock. "Mister Holmes" Dhani nodded in greeting.
Sherlock nodded without saying anything. He then looked at you with narrow eyes.
" it's liquid bomb and made into a pill. Known as Devil's foot. Highly explosive. Even the tiny explosion can make a large amount of explosion. The pill exploded inside his stomach and that's the cause of your husband death" you murmured idly.
The woman in grief cried when she heard what you said and held her chest as she breathed fast. Her maid (who found her dead husband) next to her held her shoulder and rubbed her back trying to calm her down.
John and Dhani looked concerned at the woman. They both understand how it feels to lose a loved one.
you smile tightly clearly you are annoyed with all this as Sherlock seems neutral with everything. Sherlock then took a seat next to you and sat facing the woman and the maid.
You glanced at Sherlock silently.
" Someone detonate the pill to explode it" Sherlock explained.
"Obviously" you added.
Lestrade stood next to you while crossing his arms. "We understand that you are in mourning now, but your husband may have enemies who are not satisfied with him."
You reached into Lestrade's jacket pocket quickly and fished something out of his jacket pocket. Lestrade scolded you. The pill bottle was taken out of the pocket and held by your hand. You held the pill bottle containing the chip in front of their eyes.
"This chip is used for bombing work. Someone who detonated it obviously knows about this" you stared at the chip longingly. And then you snapped and leaned forward with both hands crossed on the table. You support your head with your right hand while looking at the woman with a blank face.
"When did you last see your husband" You questioned.
The woman calmed down a bit and looked at you and Sherlock with a face stained with tears.
"this morning. He.. he looked fine this morning before I left for work. I don't know what he did after that. He was supposed to get ready to meet his assistant at his company but then he.. he said he didn't feeling good so he just sits at home" The woman wipes her cheeks with a handkerchief while sniffling.
Lestrade nodded in understanding. John and Dhani just kept silent and looked sympathetically at the woman.
"You're in the medical field too, right?" You wheeled the chair next to her. Your hands were placed on the table as you leaned your face towards her with steady eyes.
the woman looked down. Avoiding eye contact with you. "yes, I'm a pharmacist"
"So you're the one who suggested him to take medicine?"
"he is sick so of course he needs to take medicine"
You hummed. "Any kids?"
"No" she still looked at her lap.
"don't have any or don't want to have any?" you leaned closer.
The woman panicking again then she breathed fast as she held her chest. Panic attack. The maid rubbed her back with a concerned face.
Lestrade and Dhani pulled you away from her by pulling the wheeled office chair to Sherlock's side. You sprawled on the chair annoyed. Sherlock observed you. Making deductions about you. Anything he can read but he can't read your body language nor did his deduction work. He frowned.
'now this is interesting' Sherlock thought.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
"aren't you mad?" John walked by Sherlock's side.
Sherlock glanced at John in the corner of his eye. "about what?"
"DI L/n. She's taking your case. You usually don't let other people take your cases unless it's Mycroft's cases. What happened there? hmm. You always argue about cases." John looked up at his flatmate.
"I don't see any point in starting arguments" Sherlock replied coldly.
John nodded sarcastically. "i can see that. But usually even smart person in that room you always talk over them and point out your opinion but then when DI L/n talked, you let her talk"
"What are you trying to say, John" Sherlock retorted.
John chuckled sarcastically. "Seriously, you got this thingy just like when you can't read Irene Adler. You let her have her talk, she's outsmarted you and you become curious about her."
"She's smart, of course I let her have her talk" Sherlock blurted.
"no no, you don't understand. She's got you, isn't it? She's just like you and now you want to find out everything about her. You and her are no different, Sherlock. You guys are the same." John said while staring at Sherlock's side face.
"we're not the same, John. She's seeing things as a game and I see things as a challenge. Everything that's happening around me is always a challenge. I solve cases because I want to get rid of boredom and she solves cases because she wants to play. Now, can we stop this topic and get on with life" Sherlock fastening his walked.
"For God's sake, what I'm trying to elaborate is that you have feelings for her" John stated while chasing Sherlock from behind.
"We barely know each other, how come I have feelings for her. I only know her name" Sherlock grunted.
"you might not show it openly but you have your own way of showing it. She's stunned you with her wisdom and you let her stunned you. Isn't it obvious?" John concurred.
"no" Sherlock said simply without glancing at his flatmate.
John nodded off and let his friend be. He's tired of Sherlock antics. He knows that Sherlock is not very good when it comes to romance but he also knows that Sherlock is not good at showing his affection to others so he just shows it in his own way.
This is getting weirder than John ever thought.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
You and Dhani hurried up the stairs to the therapy room where all hell breaks loose. Futuba Yashiba, right now is pointing his gun towards his friend who distributed the pill bomb. You and Dhani find out after going to Futuba's girlfriend's house when you realize that Futuba is the one who caused the pill bomb to be created. And now, he who unconsciously swallowed the pill bomb after it was distributed by his friend wanted to take revenge on his friend before he exploded.
Thunderous footsteps were heard from the four legs below as you both rushed up the stairs to the therapy room on the 3rd floor.
As soon as you arrived in front of the therapy room, you burst into the room without thinking about anything and tackled Futuba to the floor. You hold him down while trying to grab the gun from his hand while Futuba struggles under you to let go. He cried out saying to let him kill his friend who right now was holding back the bleeding in his leg. Seems like Futuba already shot him.
Dhani already assisted Futuba's friend by trying to stop the bleeding. A few seconds later, Lestrade, Sherlock, John and two police officers entered and rushed towards you who managed to get the gun away from Futuba. While John rushed towards Dhani who is assist Futuba's friend.
"Y/n!" Lestrade shouted.
"Take him, Gwerk! " you breathed out.
"It's Greg" Lestrade remarked as he and two officers began to gather around you and take a hold of the crying Futuba. You got up and brushed your trench coat then remembered something.
"Stay away from him cause he had swallowed a pill bomb and at any moment he will explode!" you shouted and then covered your ears.
The police officers there then released Futuba and distanced themselves from him and took cover including Lestrade. Sherlock stepped in front of you unconsciously as he too took cover.
Everything is silent except the crying of Futuba who is still laying face down on the floor. His face stained with tears and snot waiting for his death to arrive but nothing happened. No explosion nor did his guts explode. He's safe. The culprit who controlled the bomb did not detonate it.
Sherlock looked at you who still covered both ears. He sighed in relief.
Lestrade looked at Futuba dumbfounded. "he's not exploding"
You uncovered your ears and looked at Futuba from behind Sherlock. "The culprit didn't press the button" you murmured.
"indeed" Sherlock added then looked at you worriedly. "alright?"
You stared at Sherlock with the same look. "fine, you?"
"good" Sherlock replied simply. You and him stared at each other without any care with the people in the room for a good 5 seconds before you both snapped back from reality.
You broke eye contact from Sherlock and rushed past him towards Futuba's friend who was still crying out in pain. You kneeled down and grabbed the collar of his shirt roughly and leaned your face against him with a firm face.
"Tell me where the heck did you get that pill bomb?! " you demanded rudely.
Futuba's friend just cried in fear while both hands held your hands that gripped his collar. Dhani and John held you trying to released your gripped from his collar while you shook Futuba's friend's body roughly.
Sherlock came and kneeled next to Dhani. "tell us where did you get that pill bomb, now" Sherlock commanded.
"I didn't see their faces. They wore black hoodies and just handed me the pill and told me to give it to Futuba saying it was just headache medicine" he cried out.
"Their voice, you said they told you to give him the pill. Tell me, is the voice you heard male or female?" Sherlock questioned.
"I can't hear them well because at that time we were in the club so the atmosphere there was very loud.. Their voice was muffled by the mask" he replied as he was still trying to free himself from your grip.
You released him and strode towards Futuba who was still lying facing the floor. His cries are still heard. You kneeled next to him and grabbed his shoulder then roughly you turned his body to face you.
Lestrade standby behind you in case you act out of control. Sherlock then got up and stood near you who was kneeling next to Futuba.
Futuba cried, his face stained with tears and snot when facing you. You scrunched your face in disgust.
"So you are the cause of all this happening. Tell me why you want to kill your own friend when he doesn't know anything about this? Tell me now!" you shook his head roughly.
Lestrade grabbed your shoulder and pulled you away from Futuba.
Futuba cried out while covering her face. "I killed her! with my own hands! I killed a little girl!"
Sherlock looked at Futuba with disgust while you looked at Futuba coldly. Now that's it.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
"That little girl is yours, isn't it? Mrs. Kingsley?" you said as you rocked your body left and right.
Sherlock who is standing behind you looks narrowly at Mrs Kingsley wife of the dead husband. Mrs. Kingsley who was sitting on the sofa was stunned after hearing your accusation. She then looked down. Her eyes started to tear up so it was her body that started shaking.
You walked up to Mrs. Kingsley and bent down to see her tear soaked face. You smirk.
"She was killed by Futuba at the Supermarket a few months ago. And then-" you walked and stood next to Sherlock. "The mom seeking revenge for her daughter's death. She wants Futuba to die the same way Futuba stabbed her daughter in the abdomen. She then created pill bombs, not much but enough to kill the people involved." you looked at Mrs. Kingsley, smirking.
Sherlock opened his mouth after a long silence. "You killed your husband because he didn't care about your daughter's death, so when he's sick and sitting at home, that's your opportunity to give him that pill"
You took Mrs Kingsley's phone and pointed it at Mrs Kingsley with amusement. "and then you push the button when you think it's time"
"It's the same as Futuba only you didn't press the button. Something is holding you from pressing the button. Guilty? perhaps" Sherlock assumed.
Mrs. Kingsley stopped crying and raised her head to look at the two of them with newfound anger on her face. She then got up and tried to approach you while shouting.
"He really deserves to die! He killed my girl!" she yelled angrily as she approached you and tried to harm you but then Sherlock pulled your collar away from her.
You chuckled and let go of Sherlock's grip and rocked your body left and right as if doing a little victory dance while chuckling. Both hands in pockets.
"caught" you said amused.
Mrs. Kingsley's face started to turn red. "You don't understand what it feels like to lose someone you love. You have no feelings of pity at all. You are clearly just a human being who has no emotions and no compassion" She yelled at you insult after insult.
You covered your ears then put Mrs. Kingsley's phone on the table before you walked towards the couch near Sherlock and jumped a little, landing on the couch while closing your eyes trying to block out all the nonsense from her.
Mrs Kingsley threw another insult at Sherlock the same way she said to you. Sherlock kept his neutral face. He is used to people throwing insults at him.
And then she got enough with that and kept quiet and looked down at her lap with a solemn face.
"she was beautiful.. My girl.. she was so innocent and didn't know about the world yet. He killed my girl in front of me. I did try to find him after her death-" Mrs Kingsley looked up and looked at you both with somber face "And I met him. Laughing with his friends without a care in the world. Without a care that he had killed my daughter. So, I got the idea to make a pill bomb. But then, my husband knew about my grudge and added reasons for me to kill him first. I give him the pill and I detonate it" Mrs. Kingsley got up from her seat.
She slowly reached her phone and opened her phone screen with a solemn face. You opened your eyes and looked at Mrs. Kingsley skeptically while Sherlock seemed too follow her movement. Mrs. Kingsley's fingertips slide her phone while slowly smirking.
You widened your eyes after realizing something happened now and hopped off the sofa and rushed towards Mrs. Kingsley trying to stop her doing something gruesome.
"She swallowed-"
Mrs. Kingsley pushed the button from her phone screen and her guts exploded making blood splatter everywhere including your face stained with Mrs. Kingsley's blood. You were stunned with wide eyes when you saw Mrs. Kingsley's body fall to the floor.
Sherlock who witnessed the gruesome incident widened his eyes and rushed towards you.
"L/n" Sherlock called you in his hoarse voice.
You just stand in front of him. Didn't acknowledge Sherlock's presence. Your eyes stared at the fresh corpse on the floor. Both of your hands are clenched into fists, you then kneel on top of Mrs. Kingsley's body and pull her up by the collar. Mrs. Kingsley's head lolled upward. You shook her body as if trying to wake her up even though you knew she was gone.
Sherlock held your body by gripping both of your shoulders trying to release your grip from the body.
"I haven't finished questioning yet! why did you press that button?! why?!" you yelled while shaking Mrs. Kingsley's body hard.
"That's enough!" Sherlock shouted struggling to release you who was fuming angrily in his grip.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
"alright?" Sherlock looked at your face that was clean of blood.
You snapped out of your reverie and looked at Sherlock. "fine, you?" You turned your gaze to the ambulance that was carrying Mrs. Kingsley's body into the ambulance.
"Good" Sherlock nodded and looked away from you.
Both of you fell in comfortable silence as the ambulance lights flashed in front of you just like the police car. Everything has become normal, the real culprit has been caught but it's too late to arrest her as she is brought into the ambulance to the hospital for an autopsy. Sherlock's mind started wandering with the argument he and John had before.
'you might not show it openly but you have your own way of showing it. She's stunned you with her wisdom and you let her stunned you. Isn't it obvious?' John's voice began to echo in his mind.
He didn't realize that. He might lack romance but he knows that he is unconsciously stunned by you and he lets you. He let you stunned him with your wisdom. He likes to be near you and hear your voice.
'Wow. What is this?' Sherlock thought with wide eyes. His face started to turn red. He's blushing. Sherlock Holmes is blushing over a woman he barely knows.
He turned his gaze on your side face. Now he sees how gorgeous you really are. He swallowed hard.
"Why didn't you talk much while solving this case, Holmes?" you suddenly asked.
Sherlock stiffened. He turned his attention to the cement floor. "You talk first, so I'll let you talk"
"why? I read in John's blog that you are the type to talk a lot, why suddenly you don't talk much? You know you are allowed to talk, right?" you stared at Sherlock.
Sherlock lost all the sentences and panic started to burn in his heart. His eyes darted around and stopped at a glimpse of you next to him. He let out a heavy breath.
"you stunned me" Sherlock said those three sentences lowly.
"Me?" you turned your body to face Sherlock.
"yes, you. Everything about you stunned me and I lost my words. Dammit, I've never been lost for words before, but you. You manage to make me lost for words and I let you do that. You make me curious about you. Everything about you is curious to me. My deduction can't work on you, I can't read you easily just like any other person I've encountered. You DI Y/n L/n make me question you to me" Sherlock breathed out.
You are stunned. Now that everything is placed where it originally was. Now you understand what it means. You smirked and walked over to Sherlock. You looked upon his face and Sherlock looked down at your face. The height difference is everything.
"We barely know each other and now you say that I stunned you?" you chuckled and palmed Sherlock's cheek with both of your hands. You rubbed both of his cheeks with your thumbs. "You stunned me too, Sherlock Holmes."

I am a mix of all the things I've loved. Not only people but content too. I still love sparkly make up because of Barbie Fairytopia, my closet is full of flannel thanks to supernatural and the cowboy from night at the museum, I eat my breakfast as a proper hobbit, I try to be as curious about life as the doctor. And millions of other little things that make the person I am today.

I want to put all versions of Sherlock and Watson - or at least those who are Watson-like (that I know of, including those from anime I watched) in the same room and watch chaos unfold

Two matching Miss Sherlock papercuts I created for @gardnerhill as part of the latest Holmestice round. I actually still hadn't seen the show when I signed up and then thought, seriously how? Absolutely fell in love with it and I wanted to do something featuring four of the main characters. I used two pages from The Adventures (translated by Ken Nobuhara) and painted backgrounds for contrast. Did you know that when A Study in Scarlet reached Japan a decade after being first published, it was adapted to a Japanese setting rather than simply translated? Me neither!

How different adaptations deal with Sherlocks drug use
Miss Sherlock: Has a candy addiction
Enola Holmes: Has a drinking problem
German Granada Holmes: Drug scenes get straight up cut out, so in modern reprints of the german DVD they have to put them back in, but sadly they never recorded a translation for those scenes, so they quickly change into english and back into german
