Elide stuffed another marshmallow on the skewer and held it over the fire. She half listened to the conversations and bickering around her, occasionally putting in her two cents as she focused on getting her marshmallow a perfect golden brown. She hated when the flames caught and scorched it and left it a crumbling charred mess.
On another night, if her marshmallow burned, she could’ve given it, albeit dejectedly, to her boyfriend who for reasons she couldn’t comprehend liked his marshmallows burnt. But not tonight. Tonight, Lorcan was sitting on the opposite side of the fire from her, separated on each side by their friends. Tonight, she couldn’t give him a burnt s’more without the confused or shocked looks from their friends. Because tonight, she and Lorcan had to pretend like they haven’t been secretly dating for a month and a half.
So, tonight, Elide focused on her marshmallow.
“Okay, okay, here we go,” Aelin sat next to Elide and grabbed a flashlight from her bag before turning it on and holding it beneath her face. The light caught on her cheekbones and cast shadows over her skin. “Who’s ready to have nightmares tonight?”
“You don’t need to tell a story for that, Galathynius,” Lorcan smirked. “You’re disturbing enough.”
“I think you mean delightful, Salvaterre, not that you’d know what that is.”
Elide cringed inwardly. This was why she and Lorcan were keeping their relationship to themselves for now. She loved Aelin, and she lo—really liked Lorcan, but Aelin and Lorcan could be at each other’s throats on a good day.
Rolling her eyes, Elide nudged Aelin with her shoulder. “Come on, watch’ya got?”
As her friend began to tell the story, Elide caught Lorcan’s eye. His dark brows had raised a bit at her interjection, and he flashed her a quick wink as she discreetly rolled her eyes at his amusement. She lost track of the story as she kept her attention on her boyfriend. It really was a cruel joke of their own making that she wasn’t sitting next to him, curled up into his side. By the look that flashed across his face, she knew he was thinking the same thing and cursing the fire that separated them.
“Virgins? Really?” Fenrys interrupted, drawing Elide’s attention and earning a glare from Aelin. “That’s so cliché.”
The blonde opened her mouth to reply but Lysandra beat her to the punch. “What, not interested anymore knowing it isn’t coming after you?”
“Fuck off, Ennar,” he scoffed but any annoyance was negated by his self-satisfied grin.
The story went on, and even if the tale itself was lackluster, Aelin had a way of captivating people’s attention. It wasn’t long before everyone was leaning closer to the fire, listening to a story about a horrifying creature that lived in the very woods to their backs.
“A creature that fearsome and bloodthirsty doesn’t need to be clever. Anyone with a lick of common sense may just outwit the monster, but its prey rarely survives long enough to try. It doesn’t have a name. The lucky, or unlucky, few who do escape its clutches are never the same; only lucid enough to recall its jagged claws and gruesome teeth, warning others about the beast that prowls these woods. Don’t go looking for the monster, it very well may be the last thing you ever do.”
Silence stretched out around them as Aelin turned off the flashlight…only to be broken by Fenrys wetly blowing into his palm, eliciting a loud fart noise. “Is that the best you can do?” He laughed as he narrowly missed the flashlight flung at his head.
Elide knew Lorcan was about to chime in and she tried shaking her head but he continued anyway.
“Where did you find that?” He mocked. “From some kiddie Halloween book?”
Elide arched a brow at him and replied drily, “Yeah, ‘cause a kid’s book would have a monster who specifically attacks virgins.”
“Exactly,” Aedion argued, but used her point oppositely, “it goes after all of them. Scary.”
Lysandra nudged his shoulder with an eye roll, “Most of them wouldn’t even know what virgin means.”
“And that’s,” Rowan nodded, “where the story turns scary for the adults who have to bullshit their way through that explanation.”
“That’s convoluted,” Elide scoffed and met Lorcan’s amused stare over the fire.
“Maybe,” Her boyfriend shrugged before turning back to Aelin, “Doesn’t matter though, ‘cause it still sucks.”
Scoffing and crossing her arms, Aelin countered, “Like you could do better.”
“Better than a half-wit monster?” His voice dripped with condescension. “Yeah, I think so.”
Individual voices rose and bled together as everyone chimed in with their own opinions. Marshmallows were thrown across the fire in between insults and laughter, and while everyone else was focused on arguing, Elide found Lorcan’s gaze again. Truthfully, he’d barely taken his eyes off her – she could feel the intensity of his stare on her skin and prayed she didn’t look as flushed as she felt. If she did, she could blame it on the fire.
He was smirking at her and Elide’s eyes darted around the group ensuring no one else noticed. When their eyes locked again, his smirk was impossibly wider. She rolled her eyes, biting back a grin of her own. As much as she wished they weren’t pretending, it was exciting having a secret just between them.
Snap!
A loud cracking sounded from the woods.
The conversation immediately halted, and everyone’s heads swung around towards the noise. Nervous laughter jumped around the group as they shifted uneasily. It was just a story, but it was also dark and Halloween. Murmurs of there’s nothing out there echoed.
Another branch snapped loudly from the darkness, followed quickly by a second, louder snap, once again silencing the group.
“Aelin, are you doing this?” Aedion asked uneasily as he shifted in his seat and side-eyed his cousin. “Did you set this up?”
Lysandra scoffed and lightly hit his shoulder.
“Nah,” Lorcan disagreed, “she isn’t that clever.”
Sometimes Elide thought Lorcan goaded Aelin just for the fun of it… and because he had a death wish. Before Aelin could bite his head off, Elide arched a brow and leaned forward before taunting, “Why don’t you go see what that noise was then?”
Lorcan turned towards her and beneath the annoyance that he wore for show – mostly for show – she could see the heat simmering there. He shook his head, scoffing, “Right, because I’m going to walk into the supposedly haunted forest. I’ve watched horror movies; I know how that ends.”
As if on cue, more snaps and cracks echoed through the trees. This time, they were followed by birds cawing before a dozen or so of them flew out of the forest, their silhouettes visible against the moonlight.
Laughing to herself, Elide brushed herself off and stood. “For fucks sake, I’ll go check it out.”
All eyes focused on her, but no one else made a move to stand.
“Why does anyone have to check it out?” Rowan asked incredulously
Lysandra pulled her jacket tighter around herself and scoffed as she looked pointedly at Aedion, Lorcan, Fenrys, and Rowan.
“Really? None of you men,” she teased, “have the balls to go in there? You’re gonna let Elide go all by herself?”
Lorcan and Aedion rolled their eyes good-naturedly as Fenrys scoffed, “Excuse you, but as a feminist, I refuse to believe Elide isn’t capable enough to go by herself.”
Rowan added, “And as someone who’s met Elide, I refuse to believe that any monster would stand a chance against her.”
Aelin nodded sagely, “She is small, but she is mighty.”
Rolling her eyes at her friends, Elide rounded the fire and aimed for the woods. She turned to walk backward and joked, “I could be walking to my death right now and you’d all be laughing it up around the fire.”
Lorcan had turned to watch her walk away. “Get back over here, you’re the one who volunteered.”
“After your scared ass refused.” She retorted making Aelin laugh.
Huffing and crossing his arms, Lorcan continued to watch her with raised brows. “I’m not scared of a few broken tree branches.”
Elide grinned. “Could’ve fooled me.”
With his face turned away from the group as he looked at a retreating Elide, they couldn’t see the way his brows furrowed at the sight of her getting farther away, or how his eyes darkened at the amusement on her face, both of which only fueled her more and pulled her grin wider.
“Oh no,” she teased, getting farther away from the group and the fire. “I hope I don’t find the beast and lead it back here.”
If any of their friends were surprised at how reactive Lorcan was being, they didn’t show it. Or maybe the two were too focused on each other to notice.
Elide saw his face twist into a smirk and for a second worried about what was about to come out of his mouth.
“That’s not a threat, Lochan” his words dripping with provocation. “The legend says it only goes after virgins…so sucks for you.”
Elide’s brows shot up in disbelief as trickles of laughter sounded from around the circle. It was true she wasn’t as open about her exploits as her friends, but of all people…
“Mm,” she waited for the laughter to die. “It’s a good thing you aren’t going; the legend says someone only needs a speck of common sense to best it…so that’d suck for you.”
Aelin snorted hard enough to choke on the marshmallow she was eating. Loud laughter trailed her as she finally made it to the forest’s edge.
Just before she could step past the tree line, she heard the unmistakable sound of Lorcan grunting as he rose from his seat and walked towards her. “Let's go.”
She chose to ignore the cheering and whistling that followed them into the woods. They stayed quiet as they stepped over dried leaves and fallen branches, staying careful to not trip over something and end up injured and sprawled on the forest floor. It wasn’t until they’d walked far enough that the fire was no longer visible, and a minute more, before Lorcan wrapped a hand around her hip and pulled Elide backward so that her back was resting against a tree trunk and Lorcan was standing in front of her.
Both of his hands fell to her waist, and she lifted hers to the front of his jacket. One of his thumbs draw light circles across her skin as she toyed with his collar. But when he dipped his head down, trying to connect their lips in a much-anticipated kiss, she pressed on his chest to stop him an inch away from her.
“Virgin? Really?” she asked with an unimpressed raised brow, unintentionally echoing Fenrys earlier criticisms of the story.
“Blame my apparent lack of common sense,” he chuckled low and leaned forward as her resistance lifted, pressing his lips against hers in a way that almost had her forgetting why she paused him in the first place.
When they broke apart, Elide grinned and laughed softly. Lorcan offered her a small smile exclusive to her and tucked a rogue lock of hair behind her ear. She wound her arms around his middle and asked, “Wanna go break some branches and scare the shit out of the scaredy cats?”
His smile turned wicked, and his eyes lit up with dark amusement. “Oh, I absolutely do. But they deserve to worry for a bit; let ‘em stew”
“Good thinking,” Elide’s grin matched his. “What do you think we should do with the time?”
Lorcan leaned his head down so that his lips brushed her ear, bringing one hand up to graze her jaw before sliding around to cup the back of her neck. She could feel his breath on her skin as he spoke, and it sent shivers down her spine. “I can think of a few things.”

After reading your and a few other Neris and LucNes fics, I feel that SJM saying she wouldn't work with an Autumn Boi is a strict cop out and refusal to provide valid character dynamics, character growth and plot intrigue. Instead she throws all the sisters together in the NC and expects them each to just be happy because Feyre is (she hasn't but that's another rant). It reflects poorly on an authors ability to challenge themselves. Minor character or no, she gave Nesta an entire book and she truly shined dancing with my sweet, he who can never do wrong, fire Boi and even then it was a ploy by Feyre and Rhys.
Now, I love me a good Nessian fic and story, especially groveling and redemption ones, but I think Neris will forever be my Ship. SJM really dropped the ball on what could have been incredible!
I have two theories why Nesta and Lucien didn't happen.
SJM's writing of couples ACOMAF was released in 2016, by which point she had established a few couples in her series: Rowaelin - full of sexual chemistry and arguing Manorian - full of sexual chemistry and arguing Lysaedion - full of sexual chemistry and arguing Feysand - full of sexual chemistry and arguing The only couple that doesn't really have this is Elorcan so I think SJM just didn't really know how to write a couple that didn't have that hence why Nesta ended up with Cassian because the moment they came together, they could be arguing. ToD was released after ACOMAF and I think that Chaorene and Nestaq didn't have this formula to a degree. Chaorene had arguments but they weren't playful, Yrene just downright didn't like him - and Sartaq was star struck from the moment he met Nesryn. I feel like if Lucien met Nesta, he wouldn't argue with her - even if she tried to instigate it - because he would recognise that she is hurting and blames him. He has a very small role in ACOMAF so it leaves only Elain or Mor to establish a new relationship to be explored. At this point, Moriel was supposed to be endgame so Mor is off the table. Elain and Cassian just would not work. They lack any chemistry - whereas Nesta can have chemistry with pretty much any character, good or bad.
They would escape the Night Court The only thing keeping Lucien as the Night Court's emissary is Elain. He clearly has lots of contacts, he's good at making friends, and would be an asset to many courts. Feyre isn't a good friend, so seeing Elain is the main reason why he returns to Velaris. Nesta might look good in black, but she looks good in everything. She is not suited to the Night Court. Take away a link to Cassian, and the only thing keeping Nesta there is the Valkyries really. She wanted to explore the Continent previously. If Nesta and Lucien were a couple, I firmly believe that they would likely leave the Night Court. It might take Nesta a while to warm to Lucien, but they have similar social backgrounds, they have quick wit, he has good manners, his dad has a crush on her. SJM could not tie to them the night court any other way than by having Nesta be with Cassian and Elain with Lucien.

"Do we have--"
"Yeah, Mom, we've got everything," Nyx interrupted, breaking through Feyre's question before she could finish asking. "You've asked me five times in the last two minutes, and the answer is still yes."
"Son," Rhys sighed, running his fingers through his hair, "please, for the love of all things holy, be polite to your mother."
"Sorry," Nyx mumbled, not really sounding very apologetic.
"My--"
"Rhysand." Feyre cut her husband off before he could say something he might regret. "It's late, we're all tired, and we have a flight at five-fifteen tomorrow morning. Let's not do this."
"All right, darling." He leaned down to kiss the top of her head. "See you in bed."
"Fuckin' gods," Nyx grumbled when his father was out of earshot. "You two are hornier than I am."
Feyre snickered. "Mijo, you're a teenage boy, I assure you that statement is a lie." She winked. "Your dad just never grew out of the horny teenager phase."
"Urgh!" Nyx groaned. "Mom, no!"
"Love you too, my boy," she laughed. "Good night, please do us all a favor and go to sleep instead of getting on your phone."
"Night, Mom," her son replied, unexpectedly giving her a hug.
~
They arrived at the airport at four o'clock the next morning, parked, and joined the trickle of early-morning travelers inside the terminal. Given the unholy hour, the lines moved quickly, and they were able to check their bags and get through security in about half an hour altogether. They stopped at a coffee shop for some much-needed caffeine and found their gate, Feyre leaning into Rhys's shoulder and closing her eyes as they waited for the bearding call.
A couple of hours later, they landed in Rifthold, the flight smooth except for one brief patch of turbulence. They headed down to baggage claim to pick up the large suitcases and then crossed the street to get the rental car, all of them sighing in relief when they'd loaded up the car and it finally sank in that this was it.
They were moving Nyx into college.
"Remind me why in hell we decided to fly out on move-in day?" Rhys grumbled as they made their way to Costco to pick up an order.
"Remind me again who planned it that way?" Feyre crooned, winking at her husband. "That's right, not me."
"Godsdammit," Rhys mumbled.
"Checkmate," Nyx snickered from the backseat.
"Quiet, young one," Rhys laughed.
Nyx smirked, almost exactly mirroring the way his father looked when he was up to no good. "All right, all right, I won't. But can we get food?"
"Such a boy," Feyre sighed, winking at him. "Of course."
~
Several hours and potentially a few minor disagreements later, they pulled into the parking lot of Nyx's dorm, having followed the signs all the way to the building.
"Thank god for move-in week signs," Feyre huffed. "This place is a maze!"
"Please tell us you're not on the seventh floor," Rhys begged, his gaze catching the line of freshmen and families spilling out the front doors.
"Nope!" Nyx smirked. "Fourth."
"Not that bad," Feyre offered, trying to be optimistic.
"Tell that to dad," her son snickered. "Gonna need to take the elevator, old man?"
"Fuck off," Rhys snorted, reaching back to toss an affectionate punch at his son.
"And this is where you stop before either of you gets hurt," Feyre interrupted, breaking her husband and son apart. "Such males."
Rhys whispered something into Feyre's ear that Nyx chose not to hear.
"Gods above!" he groaned, jumping out of the car. "C'mon, I think we can get all this shit in two or three trips."
"Says the child," his mother scoffed. "We'll see about that, son."
And she was right.
They took the suitcases up first, each of them grabbing a big suitcase and carrying a few other things, and waited in the elevator line for ten or so minutes.
"Honestly, that wasn't as bad as I thought," Rhys mused as they got in with another family, pressing the button for the fourth floor. "The way the line was, I thought it'd be a longer wait."
"You do realize there are two elevators," Nyx deadpanned. "I know you're gettin' there, Dad, but you did see that there are two, yeah?"
"Shut it," his father huffed, nudging the boy in the shoulder with the bag in his hand.
The elevator arrived with a ping and everyone piled out, pulling suitcases behind them. "Where's your room?" Feyre asked.
Nyx flashed her a slightly wicked smirk. "420."
Rhys snorted, nearly dropping the bags in his hands. "The hell it is."
Grinning like a fiend, Nyx pulled out his phone and showed his parents the reminder text. "I'm not shitting you."
"Gods, that's--fuck!" Rhys yelped, scrambling to catch the bags before they spilled and shuddering under the awkward weight.
"Go on ahead," Feyre chuckled, nodding to Nyx. "I'll help the old man resettle his bags." Nyx headed off down the hall and she turned to her husband, shaking her head. "All right, I'll get that..."
"Fuck just go ahead and say it," Rhys sighed, his eyes twinkling at her.
She beamed. "I told you so!"
Shortly later, they pushed through the door to Room 420, finding...
Emerson Ashryver, one of Nyx's oldest friends, had his arm flung around Nyx's shoulders, the two young men talking animatedly.
And Feyre smiled softly to herself, knowing her son would be well set for the year.

Aedion starts to help Lysandra to get free of her foster-father and get her little sister back.
Just because I loved 'I'm Here'!!!
Thank you, nonnie! So, I didn't really hit the end goal in this request, but as all of my other Lysaedion requests are asking for smut, and this chapter ended up longer than planned, thus is getting split into two, well...this is for you. <3 It's still a continuation of I'm Here, but it's mostly just fluff and angst and leading to the big conversation, which will start us down this road. XD
Tumblr media
Evangeline enjoys the night as Lysandra waits to tuck her in.
Warnings: Minor Angst | Word Count: 2,729
Part 1 | Part 2 | Read on AO3
a/n: Did I spend far more time than necessary focused on s'mores? No, no I did not. If you think I did, you may want to sort out your priorities.
Tying this to another continuation request. Honestly, this was meant to get much farther, but it just started to get so long that I decided to split the night up more. We will see that conversation, I already have it mostly written. I just didn't feel like I could have a 5k word chapter after 2 chapters that didn't hit 2k together. 😂
Tumblr media
It was surprisingly easy to get Evangeline comfortable.
She had always felt at ease around Aedion, and she was quite relaxed around Rowan and Aelin as well, so Lysandra knew that being in this house with them would help. What she hadn't counted on was Evangeline seeming to feel a general kinship with Rowan's family, as if, even in those with such vastly different personalities to Rowan, she could sense the familiarity. Something telling her that they were like him, which meant that they were good.
She made fast friends with the other children, all of whom were rather excited that someone new was there. She seemed to get along best with one of the boys, a miniature of Rowan in every way. A bit shier, but all too happy to engage Evangeline in a heated debate about the Goosebumps books, which she'd been reading throughout the month as an added Halloween celebration. Evangeline loved a good argument.
"Is it weird if I don't like that?" Aedion sighed, coming to stand beside Lysandra as she watched Evangeline and this boy, Taran, animatedly debate some character's likability.
"Yes," Lysandra answered, her tone showing just the hint of amusement.
"That one is going to be just like Rowan when he's older, and that is dangerous," he argued, making Lysandra laugh. She could feel his shoulders relax at the sound.
"Don't project your issues with the openness of your cousin's relationship on Evangeline," she teased. "We've got a long time before we need to be worried about that."
Aedion huffed out a laugh, muttering what sounded like 'we' under his breath, and Lysandra felt her body stiffen, realizing the mistake she'd made. He wasn't hers to plan for a future with. He wasn't hers to help in raising Evangeline. He wasn't hers to assume he'd be around in another eight to ten years.
He wasn't hers.
He couldn't be, and she doubted he ever would be.
"Okay, everyone. Time for s'mores and stories!" Enda, one of Rowan's closest cousins, announced. He was carrying a massive bag of jumbo marshmallows, some huge chocolate bars, and a big box of graham crackers, his husband carrying the skewers as they led everyone outside where Rowan had been building a bonfire.
Lysandra couldn't help but smile as she took in the backyard.
The large space had been turned into a child's dream campground. Fun, little, multi-colored tents with various characters were set up in a large circle, the entrances all pointing toward the bonfire that sat in the center of it. In between the two was a smaller circle of log benches for everyone to sit on.
Around the campsite and strung up to connect the tents were lines of fairy lights in orange, purple, and black - the same colors the house had been decorated with on the inside. Aelin's doing, most likely.
"All right, each kid gets their own tent!" Aelin explained loudly. "Pick your favorite character and stake your claim!"
The kids all rushed, Evangeline with them and immediately finding and claiming the tent with Merida on it.
"Aelin," Lysandra breathed, walking up to her friend, already feeling a blush on her face. "This is lovely but, erm…Evangeline doesn't have a sleeping bag."
"Oh, don't worry about it," Aelin said simply as Lysandra heard Evangeline gasp excitedly. "We provided those too, and pillows."
"Lysandra, look at how cute!" Evangeline squealed, running up to her, the sleeping back dragging behind her. She pulled it forward to show Lysandra the bag that had the three brothers from Brave on it, in their bear forms. It was one of Evangeline's favorite pieces of the movie - she thought the bear cubs were adorable.
"Wow! That's amazing!" she offered, rubbing Evangeline's head. "But why don't you go put that back before you accidentally drag it through the fire?"
"Okay," she agreed, doing as suggested.
Lysandra pivoted toward Aelin and gave her a soft glare. "This is too much."
"Don't be ridiculous. We did it for the whole family," Aelin countered. "And before you ask, no, none of them chipped in. These are Rowan's and my gifts to our favorite children."
Exhaling loudly, Lysandra nodded. "Well, thank you. But we won't be able to keep them."
"Nonsense," Aelin scoffed, saving a hand. "You just won't be able to keep them at your house. They'll be here whenever Evangeline needs them."
"Thank you, Aelin," Lysandra muttered. "You all are really too good to us, but I'm glad Evangeline has you."
"You have us too," she said kindly, placing a hand on Lysandra's shoulder. "Don't forget that, yeah?"
Lysandra nodded as Aelin walked toward the bonfire where the other adults were attempting to chorale the kids onto the seats. Most seemed to want to compare their tents and prove why theirs was the best.
Finally, Rowan spoke up, creating order where no one else could by threatening to take away their chance at hearing a story from Aedion. Apparently, that was something none of the kids wanted to miss out on. They all quieted down and grabbed seats, Enda and Karter passing out the skewers and s'mores materials.
"You know, there are enough seats for the adults as well," Aedion explained, making Lysandra jump. She hadn't noticed that he'd joined her.
"I'm good here," she sighed, watching Evangeline skewer a marshmallow and then hold it delicately over the flame. She always had to get that perfect golden toast.
"Don't be ridiculous," he groaned, stepping behind her and pushing her toward the bonfire, his hands braced on her hips. She tried to look annoyed, but a giggle escaped her lips, betraying her. "Can we get a skewer here for this beauty?"
She slapped Aedion in the gut before accepting a skewer and marshmallow from Karter.
"If he's bothering you, you can always join Karter and me on our bench," Enda offered as he handed her a graham cracker and some chocolate pieces. "We're very skilled in helping beauties avoid obnoxious alpha males."
Lysandra laughed loudly as Aedion scowled at Enda. "Oh, I'm sure I'll be taking you up on that offer," she chuckled, Aedion poking her in the waist playfully.
"Aedie! Story!" Evangeline requested, the kids all looking up at him expectantly, their mouths already covered in marshmallow and chocolate.
"Can't I enjoy a s'more first, too?" he asked in mock offense. The kids all grumbled, making Aedion laugh as he sat down next to where Lysandra had seated herself, his own skewer in hand.
He held it over the fire, clearly happy to take his time, but that wasn't Lysandra's style. She plunged her marshmallow directly into the fire and then took it out, holding her skewer up as she let it burn for a few seconds, until it was just about to fall off of its own accord.
"No! Tell me you're not one of those!" Aedion exclaimed, staring in horror at the burnt marshmallow she was now placing on her chocolate and graham cracker.
"It ensures the most melted marshmallow, and does so quickly," she explained, placing another piece of chocolate - because chocolate on just one side was a dumb concept - and the second graham cracker on top of the marshmallow before she slid the skewer out and rested it next to her.
Aedion was shaking his head. "And here I was, thinking you were perfect."
"Nope!" She popped the 'p' cheerfully, a wide smile on her face. "But I do make a great s'more." Lysandra took a cheerful bite into her little sandwich, savoring the sweet, gooey taste, the chocolate half-melted due to the marshmallow's warmth.
Aedion watched her as she did, laughing softly, his eyes focused on her lips. Lysandra's heart fluttered at the attention, the intensity, and it completely stopped as he lifted a hand to her face, his finger caressing a spot at the corner of her lip.
"Bit of chocolate," he said, licking that same finger. "Don't worry, you're still the neatest s'mores eater I've ever seen." She rolled her eyes at the comment, but could feel the flush of her cheeks. She really needed to find a way to not be so affected by him.
It had always been a super power of hers. Her ability to control her emotions, put on the face she needed, whether she were hiding feelings or pretending she had them. It had come in handy for much of her life, sad as that may be, and was a talent she still used today, mostly with Arobynn. And yet, with Aedion, she often felt reduced to some swooning pre-teen, her body reacting before her mind even knew what was happening.
"Go make your s'more," she sighed, looking toward the fire. "The kids won't wait forever."
Another chuckle but Aedion heeded the order.
It was so easy, pretending nothing was wrong. Acting like it was just another night at Aelin and Rowan's, letting herself forget for a few minutes the talk she'd promised to have. And why it was even necessary.
As soon as his last bite was in his mouth, the kids were hammering Aedion for the story.
"All right, all right you little monsters," he chuckled, holding up his hands in surrender. They all quieted after that, the kids moving so they could hear better. Some sat before him on the ground, a couple joined their parents on the benches next to Aedion and Lysandra.
Evangeline crawled right into Aedion's lap, sitting perpendicular to the way he was, his arms wrapping around her to hold her in place instantly. It left a faint smile on Lysandra's face that never left.
"In honor of our new friend, here, I'll tell you all the story of Brannon," Aedion started, squeezing Evangeline for a second in a way that made her giggle. "Brannon and the founding of Terrasen.
"Before this country was founded, this entire continent was a wild, feral land. Inhabited not by humans, but by witches and sorcerers and the Fae." The children all gasped at that last word, making Aedion huff out a small laugh. "Also known as the Fair Folk, and sometimes faeries, but those myths rarely tell the truth. The Fae weren't small creatures that glowed and floated around, showing you the way. Nor were they the tricksters some legends would have you believe. They weren't winged," he tugged on Evangeline's wings lightly, earning another laugh from her and the children, "and they weren't nice. That's not to say they were mean, but the Fae gave into their animalistic instincts in a way we don't. Taller, stronger, faster, and some gifted with magic, they were incredibly dangerous and preferred freedom to what they might consider the 'trappings of civilized society'."
And so Aedion's story began, the kids completely enraptured, and Lysandra couldn't deny she was wrapped in it too. Or, at least, wrapped in Aedion. The way his face shifted as he spoke, how he adjusted his tone up and down at the perfect spots. The way his hair seemed to glimmer in the firelight, how his jaw would set, his lines becoming sharper, a clear path for Lysandra to trail kisses up.
Not that she was thinking about that. No, she just crossed one leg over the other and continued to listen.
He spun a tale of a great Fae warrior with the gift of fire, vanquishing enemies and defending their land from the humans that would seek to steal it from them. How the Fae then made him their king and he established a country that would be recognized by the world, a country so great that all attempts at conquering never succeeded.
"Of course, over time, humans were welcomed into the kingdom," Aedion sighed, coming to an end of his story. "They mixed with the Fae, and the population started to grow immensely. With Fae having such a hard time having children themselves, soon enough there were no pureblooded Fae being born, and slowly the Fae race died out in favor of the demi-Fae and humans, the latter in particular, who bred like bunnies in comparison to the demi-Fae." Soft giggles from the children. "And, while any traces of the gifts the Fae were given millennia ago disappeared, there are still hints of that ancestry in some of us alive today." Aedion smirked at the kids and then turned his head, tucking his shoulder-length hair behind his ear to reveal the tiniest of points at the top of it.
He had it on both sides, and she loved it. Not because they were proof what Aedion had said was true - no, not at all. She knew that some people were just born with slightly pointed ears. It wasn't anything special. And yet, it totally was, because it was something unique about him, to have the points on both ears. She thought they were so cute, and had definitely given them little kisses at times when the two were wrapped in each other's arms.
The children, on the other hand, were all stunned, and even Evangeline was taken by the concept, reaching up and touching the point Aedion had on display.
"Now, little lady, who told you it was okay to touch someone's ear without their permission?" Aedion asked, an air of mischief in his tone.
Evangeline blushed, hiding her face in his chest as Aedion laughed, smiling over at Lysandra.
"I think it's time to get her to bed," Lysandra sighed, standing up and stretching. The story had gone for much longer than she thought, and it was definitely past Evangeline's bed time now.
"Will you tuck me in?" Evangeline asked Aedion, looking up at him.
Aedion paused, looking up at Lysandra. "If it's okay with Lys."
She nodded without even hesitating. "Of course, go right ahead."
"No!" Evangeline groaned. "Both of you!"
Lysandra couldn't help but smile at that, her eyes sparkling as she looked upon her sister. "We can do that."
Climbing out of Aedion's lap, Evangeline stood and took Lysandra's hand in one of hers and Aedion's in the other before leading them to her tent.
"Good choice," Aedion muttered at seeing her tent and the wild redhead painted on it.
"Stay out here," Evangeline demanded, going into her tent alone.
Aedion's brow furrowed as he looked at the now closed flap. "She's probably changing, Aedion," Lysandra offered, his entire stance relaxing suddenly.
"Right…makes sense," he breathed, rubbing his neck. "Did you like the story?"
Lysandra smiled up at him kindly. "I did. Quite a bit, actually. Especially the part about the ears." She took a step closer and booped the point that was still on display. "Oh, I'm sorry, should I have asked for permission to do that?" she teased.
His face fell into something serious as he took a step closer, their chests now brushing with each breath the shared. "You never have to ask permission to touch me," he whispered, his voice low and intense. Lysandra felt her heart flutter as a heat spread through her face.
"I'm ready!" Evangeline proclaimed, her voice cutting through the air and jolting them both, Lysandra jumping a step away from Aedion.
The little girl was nowhere to be seen, but when Lysandra pulled back one of the flaps she found her already snuggled in her new sleeping bag, looking up at her expectantly.
"Are you comfortable?" Lysandra asked softly, crawling in a bit and brushing some of Evangeline's blonde hair out of her face. She nodded softly, her eyes as bright as her smile. "Then good night, sweet girl. I'll see you in the morning." Lysandra leaned over and kissed her on her forehead just as Aedion crawled in on Evangeline's other side, the three quite squished in the tent for one child.
He waited, and when Lysandra pulled back, Aedion brushed his own kiss to Evangeline's temple. "Sweet dreams, Evie," he whispered softly.
"'Night Aedie," she replied happily.
"I'll be in the house if you need me," Lysandra offered quietly.
"The guest room to the left of the stairs, on the first floor," Aedion added. Lysandra flashed him a grateful smile. Evangeline nodded in understanding as she slid further into her sleeping bag.
With another quick kiss on the forehead, Lysandra followed Aedion out of the tent, zipping up the flaps once she was standing again.
"You ready?" Aedion asked gently, his hands in his pockets.
No. "Yeah, sure."

a/n: Fun fact, one of my sister's ears has a tiny little point to it…so, either Lysandra's right, or we, too, have Fae in us. 👀😂

Don’t cancel me but
I love Throne of Glass (the series) more than I love ACOTAR (the series). I think TOG has better world building, character development, story evolution, fleshed out villains, better characters and romance and relationships overall (and even better writing imo).
But while I’m a huge fan of TOG, I’m barely in the fandom (obv some exceptions to that — most noteably lysaedion) while I’m ACTIVELY involved with the acotar fandom. I feel like, because of the stuff that wasn’t as fleshed out in acotar, there’s way more you can write abt the world or characters or relationships, which is interesting to me (I’ve always been one to fall in love with minor characters and ships).
So yeah. That’s all. Thanks for reading to this pointless post :)

So. Kingdom of Ash.
*screaming and crying* AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
KoA gave me all the feels, and now I am suffering from the worst book hangover ever. So I’m going to scream into the abyss we call Tumblr and maybe someone will be interested. Obviously there are spoilers, and I’ll try to keep it as chronological as possible.
So the first part was just tears. So much crying. Why. WHy aLL ThE sUFfeRINg? Aelin is so strong. I mean, that’s the reason I love her, but Kingdom of Ash just made me love her even more. The scariest part for me was when Cairn almost broke her spine, because she was just so close to that line and I NEED HER TO BE OKAY. The part when Connall died and they made Aelin kneel in the glass was simultaneously awful and awesome. When she flipped Maeve off, I was just AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. There are going to be a lot of ‘AHHH’s in this post. I also panicked a lot when Maeve threatened to get the collars, because from there things would have just spiraled downwards. Obviously I was worried when Cairn melted her hands, as well, because how tragic would it be if she was afraid of her own hands?
Aedion is such a jerk to Lysandra during all this. I mean, I love him, but seriously, man. She was doing the right thing by her queen and her country. Honestly, the feminism in this book was just beautiful.
And then Aelin escaped and it was just FLUFF FLUFF FLUFF. It was so heart-wrenching when she was screaming at them to take the irons off. Partly because I don’t think we’ve ever seen Aelin like that. She was so far gone after that it was just more sadness. But Rowan was so nice and gentle (I mean, Rowan? Nice? Never thought that would happen) and it was so CUUUUUUUUTE. Personally, I love the relationship Fenrys and Aelin built up. I loved having so much of the cadre in this book. Cairn’s death was awesome. I know a lot of people predicted that he would die like that, and honestly I’m so glad he did. I sort of wish Aelin got that kill, but I’m also glad Rowan did. There’s so much to talk about! I’m still at the very beginning!
Manorian. *sighs*. Manon, we all know you have feelings. It’s no secret. Just tell Dorian you care, and this would all be so much easier.
Now Elorcan. SO BEAUTIFUL. Again with the feminism, I’m so glad Elide put her Queen above her significant other, but I’m equally glad she forgave Lorcan in the end.
I loved the rings Aelin got herself and Rowan. It was so symbolic to their relationship and her healing, that she trusts him that much and wants them to keep some human traditions, which is symbolic to her battle with being human versus fae. I also love that Aelin has a green one and Rowan has a red one. :).
Lysaedion again. When Lysandra nearly died, and Aedion realised how wrong he was, I thought I wanted them to get back together and then Lysandra yelled at him and I was like YAS QUEEN. I DIDN’T KNOW I WANTED THIS UNTIL IT HAPPENED. So yeah, I’m glad she held her ground and told him that she couldn’t be treated like that and take him back so easily. Girl power.
OHMYGODS I HAVENT MENTIONED CHAOLRENE AND THEIR BABY YET. OHMYGODS. SO CUUUTE. SHIIIIIP. So many people turned up in this book, and everything just came together. I’m a little disappointed Nox didn’t have a bigger role, but I appreciate that he was in it. And Ren and Darrow and Falkan and all these minor characters where involved.
Not to mention Nesryn and Sartaq. They didn’t get much mention, but I liked the internal battle Nesryn had between her love for Sartaq and the power she doesn’t want.
Evangeline was so cute and so brave. I love her so much. I love that someone so young had such a big role in the war, and that she melted the heart of even Darrow.
I have to write about when Aelin reunited with everyone, starting with Chaol and his crew. I’m sososo glad that Chaol and Aelin had salvaged their relationship, and she was crying when he started walking and AHHHHHHHH. And everyone was so accepting of Yrene!
The death of Elide’s uncle was so epic and evil. I think Sarah tied all the loose ends really well, including this one. Elide got to move on from the trauma her uncle caused, simultaneously showing Aelin’s skill in awesomeness and manipulation.
When Dorian made that bargain with Maeve. *facepalm*. I’m glad it ended up the way it did, but that was scary. And when he almost killed her, my first instinct was ‘YESSSS. END THIS.’ and my second was ‘NO! THAT’S AELIN’S KILL! GET AWAY!’ More on Maeve’s death later, that was one of my favorite parts.
When Aelin evaporated that dam. And we all thought she was too scared to, but Aelin would never let her fear get in the way of her people. It was so heart-breaking when Fenrys told Rowan what they did to her and why he thought she wasn’t using her magic. Everyone is just suffering. There is no one that went through the entirety of the book with out pain and loss, and Rowan suffered some of the most emotional pain out of everyone and he was still so supportive of Aelin, and never once crossed the over-protective line. Anyway, when they said Aelin was tunneling her power for THREE MONTHS, I thought back to when Rowan was like ‘It takes me a whole day to reach the bottom of my magic,’ and Aelin was all surprised.
NOW BACK TO ELORCAN. SHE FREAKING RAN IN THE PATH OF A BREAKING DAM FOR LORCAN. AND HE WAS SAYING ‘LEAVE ME!’ AND I WAS THINKING NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO AND SHE DIDN’T AND SHIIIIIIIIIIIIP. Gods, I’m so glad Aelin saved them.
I wonder what Elide’s going to do about that ankle. I think she’ll get Yrene to fix it.
Now I’m going to write about the Thirteen and Abraxos. I thought Abraxos was going to die, and I had no idea how connected I was to him! And Manon’s emotions (finally) came out. And then Abraxos was fine, but the Thirteen went back. The definition of loyalty. And Asterin. TEARS. WHYYYYYYY.
Okay, the Lock. When Dorian turned up with the keys, I’m pretty sure Rowan summed up my feelings pretty well. I was thinking ‘I have no reason to hate you, Dorian, but I really hate you right now’ and I was both proud and angry at Aelin. I was all panicky again when they all voted to do it straight away. The moment when Chaol, Dorian and Aelin were all standing at the cross roads to Endovier was so beautiful. Back where it all started. And then Rowan convinced Aelin to do it with Dorian and I was so relieved that she might live, and from there it was just a roller coaster of emotions. We finally found out the King’s name (!!!!!!!!), and then Aelin pushed Dorian out and Rowan felt the bond strain and I felt so sorry for Rowan. I was terrified Aelin was going to die, and Rowan was panicking and Dorian was panicking and AHHHHHHHHH. And then Aelin bargained with them and I was just proud again, and they killed Elena and I was so devastated for her mate. And then Aelin sent all the gods to hell, and I was so happy again, and then she was falling through the worlds and FEYRE IS PREGNANT AND RHYS SAVED HER. RHYS SAVED HER LIFE AND I WAS CRYING SO MUCH AND AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. That scene killed me a little. So many emotions.
Now the war. When Ren’s mate died, it was so so sad because we’re all so desperate for Rowaelin to be together but it doesn’t always happen, and this highlighted that. The cadre was awesome. I LOVED ALL THE FATHER SON RELATIONSHIPS IN THIS BOOK. When Aelin met Chaol’s dad and everyone just kept burning him (metaphorically) it was so awesome. And Gavriel.
Gavriel.
Right when Aedion forgave him. Aedion is such an idiot sometimes. I love him to bits, but man, does he have a temper. It was sososososososo cute when Evangeline wanted Aedion to be her dad or her brother, and that she looks up to him so much. CUUUUUUUUUUUUTE.
Then Aelin was fighting Maeve and Erawan with nothing left, because she would do anything for her people. Maeve was all ‘there are no gods to help you now’ and then Aelin, witty as always-
‘I am a god.’
The most beautiful line. *sighs*.
So Erawan goes off and fights Yrene and everyone and SO PROUD. YRENE IS SO AMAZING.
Back to Maeve. Again, I was scared when she got in Aelin’s head and Rowan, Fenrys and Lorcan were being tortured which we all know is the best way to get Aelin to do what you want. Then, the next awesome quote. Fenrys stabs Maeve and she’s begging (yes! Beg!) Aelin to banish her, just take the sword out. And Aelin says-
‘Then go to hell.’
AHIOHGOSEGNOSGNENO. And kills her.
The coronation, when Aedion swears the blood oath and Rowan and Aelin dance and its all fluffy, and then it keeps getting fluffier and the court is back together and then they have to say goodbye to everyone and then everything is good.
*screaming*.
I haven’t covered the half of it, but I got some of the feels out, so that’s good. I’m so devastated it’s over but so happy there was a happy ending. If you read this far, wow. If not, sorry to make you scroll so far!

Maybe this ask is weird, maybe it's not... but as a bisexual Mor and Aedion are incredibly important characters to me and your Lysaedion writing is so so good.
There is nothing weird about that at all!!
Representation is overwhelmingly important, and what you said is exactly why!
Even though Aedion will end up with Lysandra (my shipper heart), I didn’t want to ignore his bisexuality at all. He has a romantic history, and I believe that flavors you and everything you do. You carry your history with you if it was something good and loving, and by the tiny snippet we have so far, it certainly sounds like it.
Representation is so critical- I would be willing to say sexual diversity is as critical as racial diversity.
As a straight white woman I have never been in a situation where I didn’t have a character easily within reach to identify with. As a kid I never questioned it, but as the subject of diversity started coming up I realized just how unfair that situation was to others. I had representation to my heart’s content. I could look at these characters and identify with them— but others couldn’t without a critical piece missing. They couldn’t look at a loving bisexual or homosexual main couple in nearly every book ever written and be like “Yep! This is just a normal healthy relationship and I want exactly this one day!!” No- people my age had to deal with homosexuality being seen as something radical in a book, a gimmick or a shocking scene (usually involving either whores or villains). They had to deal with hearing “gay” or “queer” slung about as an insult and it was almost as if being homosexual or bisexual was something to be ashamed of (sadly, it is still treated that way in many many cases even in media).
Anger and hate grow from a place of shame, every negative emotion does, and so people felt they were a villain or sick or wrong for what their heart felt was right, and were pushed down when they should have had that same uplifting experience straight readers were getting. Books featuring our sexuality in the main couple weren’t automatically pulled out and segregated over to a tiny LGBT section at the back of the store (LGBT is a fine section if it is nonfiction, self-actualization or acceptance kind of stuff, but when fantasy and sci-fi and romance books are put there only because the main couple happens to be gay or bi or someone is trans (and the books are not also included on the main shelves for that genre)??? That is where I take issue).
I will never be able to grasp what it feels like to grow up in a world where you cannot find someone like you to look up to in a book. Someone who isn’t a token stereotype minority figure there for a chapter or the token bisexual/lesbian/gay/trans character probably oversexualized to the point where that is their only character trait and/or the villainous, sneaky figure… and it is terrible that people have had to put up with just that.
I decided a long time ago that in every book I ever write I will include AT LEAST as many minority characters as white and AT LEAST 3 sexualities. I know one person cannot change much alone, but hopefully it will help encourage other white writers to stop and take stock of their characters make sure they are building POSITIVE diversity as much as possible.
So yeah- it is not weird at all that you have a particular soft spot for characters who you can directly identify with, especially since it is an underrepresented group in media. I think Maas has realized the lack of representation in her books and is making strides to fix that, which is fantastic. Hopefully she keeps up the momentum in her new books and even in new series :) Aedion and Mor were a good start as far as mains go (and both ACOTAR and ToG added some fantastic LGBT secondary characters who hopefully will become more main in upcoming books), but I hope there can be more until kids don’t have to grow up closeted or read books that make them feel like a pervert or villain for loving who they love or being who they are.
And I am glad you enjoyed the fic!! 🌈💕🌈💕 🌈
