have you been enjoying absurd Helldivers 2 nonsense?
Tumblr media
multiple players have independently called my compared my satirical scifi skirmish storytelling TTPRG 🎲 PLANET FIST to Helldivers—so much as to call it "exactly the tone of Helldivers." the new Faithless Edition of PLANET FIST will be releasing this year, and if you buy it now, you get the new edition for free!
Tumblr media
in PLANET FIST, SHOOTOUTS ARE STORIES, and they're goofy and over the top. you're an undying, unsleeping soldier who can get blasted to bits and thrown right back onto the battlefield next round. if you're looking to see how it hits that Helldivers tone, just check out some of the FACTION TRAITS below!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
what's PLANET FIST about? what does it play like? read the PRINCIPLES OF PLAY here!
Tumblr media
what are people saying about PLANET FIST, besides that it's like Helldivers 2?
"PLANET FIST is a quick-to-learn and quick-to-play system for characters thrown into FPS-style deathmatches on a world that knows nothing but war. It's a game of high-emotion, low-consequence combat, for when you're wondering what the infinite Master Chiefs are thinking during Halo multiplayer. PLANET FIST is 'war never changes' said with the same inflection as 'it's all made up and the points don't matter.'"
- Caleb Zane Huett, designer of Triangle Agency
"An absolute blast—and then another, and then another, and then another, each leaving remains splattered on a wall. Gleeful, and tactical, and winkingly tongue-in-cheek; a masterful game from top to bottom."
- Jeff Stormer, host of the Party of One actual play podcast

i'm watching clone wars partially because my father recommended it, the big milscifi nerd that he is, and partially so i can listen to the austin walker hosted podcast about it, and partially because i purportedly like star wars. it's surprisingly good. my two biggest issues with it:
i hate their take on the force. the force is supposed to be a psychic power that connects you with the universe but the jedi rarely show off any kind of ESP, even when they're standing right next to the things they're looking for.
this is real 'complaining about the magic xylophone' behaviour but i am real fucking annoyed by the way that droids are treated like personnel instead of materiel. they're coolest when they demonstrate inhuman efficiency at murder, kind of lame when they're just doing comic relief stuff. i know people in star wars love programming robots to feel anxious but i don't know why you'd mass produce them. they regularly have dudes giving rousing speeches to masses of battle droids. what the fuck.
i know the shit works like this in the series because of purely mechanistic reasons and fuck, i'd also hate trying to write weekly episodes of a kid's cartoon if the droids were the kind of cloud-computing silent automata killing machines that would be most desirable in a conflict, but it still annoys me and i love to complain

Day Seven
For @the-wip-project #100DaysOfWriting Challenge
Prompt: Do you have a writing day? Or a writing hour? When do you get most of your writing done?
Every day is writing day! Alternatively, I just fuck around and find out.
A fair amount of my writing routine depends on the kind of story, my overall genre awareness and experience, and my energy levels.
My paying-the-bills job is intellectually intensive and so are the assignments. By the end of the day I may have more or less energy to write. Granted I love my job, but it does take some of the wind out of my sails when it comes to getting chapters finished.
I can outline more or less every day and any time of day. That’s low-effort in comparison to narrative.
For the “Air Needing Light” no-Reapers AU, I’ve also taken some detours to do extensive research and outlining both for the overall campaign of the First Contact War and for Hierarchy military organization in general. I don’t usually write milscifi or higher-order tactics, which has presented quite a challenge to the writing process.
I think I’ve been writing the next one-three chapters of Air Needing Light for the last ten months? The outline was rewritten four or five times, and there’s a narrative rewrite/revision that I need to apply to my first 5k words.
I have about 10k words in outline done and 5k words in narrative, so I’m expecting to get another 5k-10k in narrative and do one massive 10k-15k word update when I’ve gotten through the drafts and shaped and arranged everything to my satisfaction.
But that’s novel-length work for you.
For my short fics, the quickest I’ve written and published a draft is a single day. Those are the fics where I’m not spending too much time on research and am already fully conversant in the background. I think the next shortest turnaround is one-three drafts within a week. And then after that it depends on how much outlining and background research needs to happen.
I invest time in very quick rapid prototyping to decide first vs. third person and what voice and narrative distance I’m likely to need for the story.
Looking forward to some holiday time off with family coming up, and hoping I’ll get some more writing done!

A new step in the right direction.
I know I’ve mentioned a time or two about how little steps will eventually add up, you just have to keep going. Well, that moment has come about. Back during DragonCon 2023, I was approached and invited to my first ever Anchor slot for an short story anthology entitled, Intergalactic Rejects. The concept was interesting as hell. They wanted rejected stories from authors who had continued to…
