Listening to Jurassic Park on Audiobook. Here are thoughts as I go through the story:
Spoilers galore on a 33 year old book with one of the biggest films ever, I guess. Also some gore mentions.
Jesus wept Crichton, that's certainly one way to open a story. They ate the baby's face!!
When I tell you the fear that settled in my soul when Tina picked up the tiny dino - I know this series!!! I was expecting so much worse, but it was still bad. Merci for the gore discretion scene POV change there Crichton.
What's the craic with the dino spit? What have you done Wu??
I kinda like that the secrecy of 'dinos be back baby!' is more by human apathy and shrugging off things than Hammond's magical will which is the only explanation we get in the film.
Yes Crichton, we can see you like science stuff and explaining how things work, we see it.
The film did the moment they see the dinos better. I almost missed it while making lunch in the book. Spielberg Win there - but tbf that's hard to beat on paper compared to a film with scale and swelling music.
I swear the narrator is picking up the film actors inflections when he does dialogue. Especially Nedry, I can hear Wayne Knight in his voice even though he isn't really doing distinct voices. Same with Sam Neil in Alan.
I am so glad they made Lex the older kid in the film - she's a classic annoying little sibling in the worst way in the book. She is bored of dinosaurs after a couple of hours! I can't decide if that's the most unrealistic or the most accurate thing in the book -- kids get used to wild things very quick.
I gotta be honest, I'd probably work in a Dino Nursery too.
I adore Richard Attenborough's Hammond, but the book version helps explain far better why things go so wrong. He's just a Bezos or Musk.
The debate with Wu about Version 4.4 is very interesting. Hammond thinks having the original wolf is what people want but Wu is probably right that what people really want is closer to a dog, even if they say they want the wolf. Anyone who actually wants the wolf is looking for a Darwin award.
When Crichton made sure to include an explanation of what a CD player was I cracked up laughing, because it may have been new enough in 1990 to need a quick explanation, but it will most definitely need it for the future given how CDs are being made obsolete. 😕
Interesting how Arnold (Sam Jackson) describes the dinos as 'precious and delicate'. It makes sense, but it wasn't carried over to the film where it's more ... wonder and awe and 'how could something so magical go wrong?' But the book does talk about how many dinos have died in the project from all sorts of things, so they must seem so fragile when you're buried into it.
Also interesting that even though they made sure all the dinos were girls (great work there Wu, no notes!) they admit they still call the 2 T-Rex (yes there are 2!! A juvenile and an adult!) 'him'.
To be continued when I listen to more - we're about to reach Rexy's Enclosure for the first time.

After watching “The Sea Beast” I got struck HARD with an idea of LMK Pirate Au! Featuring Wukong as our lovely captain. Although he just likes to be called as his name as is… the word captain, especially when others are referring to him… leaves a bitter taste in his mouth.
And I mean this just kinda hit me— I just needed to RELEASE THINE DESIRE TO FULFILL AN ACT OF ARTISTRY THAT MUST BE NEEDED— so it was a bit rushed
Pirate Au! Wukong = Serotonin/Dopamine levels 📈📈
𝐂𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞:
[#1] — You know how Wukong’s home is called “Mount Huaguo” (Flower Fruit Mountain)? Well, instead, he called his ship “Huaguo Dian” (Flower Fruit Ship)
I’m so creative 😀……. …..🙂……. 😔 I tried
[#2] — You noticed that past tense? IM VERY PROUD OF YOU! Gold star :>, if you didn’t don’t worry when I reread it it took me a bit to realized that I put that there on purpose—
ANYWAYS, due to a certain bounty over his head from some of his “not so good lucky” pals at the Heavenly Empire, he was forced to serve on the “Dahua Xiyou” (Westward Journey— again im just that so so so talently creative)
Please note that the last sentence was sarcasm
[3] — After the events that had taken place on Dahua Xiyou (basically JTTW but in pirates and ship form) Wukong decides to keep the boat; continuing to have its name kept the same.
He misses them dearly.
And that’s all I have so far in Headcanons, feel free to share your own thoughts if you want (Like future crewmates, ship design, ship names for other crews, how things happen, your own scenarios, ect.) I’m just brainrotting currently in monkey man

Alternate timeline 2014 deancas takes 2009 dean aside. And they both give him a speech about how precious life and love is. They both talk about how they regret not letting each other know they love the other until the literal apocalypse. Really pushing that dean needs to get over his issues and accept love. Accept that people care for him, want him, love him and will cherish him like he deserves. Because one day it will be too late.
One day he will loose everything, home, friends, brother.
But accepting love and working together with those who love him may change everything. Being with Cas will change everything.
So dean gets sent back home. But he is changed. He has seen what desperation and too many years of struggling has done to him, to his Castiel. And he decides to change it.
He decides that he finally, after all this time, deserves to be loved.
And you know what? He is finally ok with that.

SANDMAN FANFIC
⚠️DNI IF UR UNDER 18!!⚠️
As hob slept dream stood in his room. Watching him and slowly getting in his bed.. watching what he is dreaming and smiling. One hand on Hob his head, laying next to him and humming as he closed his eyes and joined him in his dream.
It was a pretty dream. A bit plain for Dream to care about other than. He loved this man. He smiled as he showed himself to hob "hey love" he said softly watching hob get up "were in a dream before you ask. Not real life"
Hob smiled and nodded "ofcourse. Is it quiet then. The dream realm? No more tasks?" He asked as he held his hand and hummed, it felt real nonetheless, he was touching The Lord of Dreams. Just hand holding and talking for the past few months, not that Hob was wanting more. Okay. Maybe a little more, but how do you touch a being beyond your realm.
Dream hummed and looked at hob "no more tasks. What's your mind wandering to" he asked softly getting closer to hob and holding him close. "I can hear your thoughts hob... you can touch me how you would touch anyone." He smiled slightly and kissed his cheek softly.
"I can... that makes me more nervous, we haven't discussed the terms of our relationship, and what are you Dream. A Bottom... A top? Are we even dating?" Hob asked and looked at dream and smiled a bit awkward "argh I'm overthinking this aren't I?" He rambled really fast before kissing Dream and wrapping around him.
Dream was about to answer all of the questions he just got served but was swooped into a kiss and smiled a little, kissing back, holding hobs head. He hummed and pulled back after a little and changed the scenery of the dream to a comfortable bedroom. "I'm thinking we would like this?" He asked as he saw hob and nodded as he walked in with him, gently sitting on the bed.
"Just to answer you, Hob Gladling. I'm neither and I'm both... it all depends on where you want to be. The receiver or the giver. As for the dating. I dare say, we are partners" he nodded smugly. Feeling good about what he just said.

meal ideas!
low energy ("do not ask me to do any prep work at all, so help me god")
mozzerella cheese wrapped in pepperoni ("pizza tacos"!)
hummus and pretzels or naan (putting the naan in the microwave for like 10 seconds...heavenly)
canned chili (with shredded cheese and sour cream if you have it! boom done!)
instant miso soup (warm and lovely! put tofu in it for protein!)
cheese and cured meat, olives, canned fish, crackers, dried fruit, or whatever easy "charcuterie" type items you like
alternate bites of apple and spoonfulls of peanut butter (mixing honey or chocolate chips to the peanut butter is my favorite)
a "deconstructed sandwich": bites of lunch meat, pickles, cheese, cherry tomato, etc (I love roast beef and white cheddar for this)
yogurt and granola or fruit
put frozen potstickers + frozen edamame in the steamer/rice cooker, chill elsewhere with a timer set, then boom
tortilla chips + canned refried beans + cherry tomatoes + cilantro + jarred salsa con queso (or warm shredded cheese on top of the chips in the microwave for 30 seconds)
bagel + cream cheese + lox
microwave scrambled eggs (add things like green onion, soy sauce, or anything else you like!)
cottage cheese and fruit (mixed together or just on the side)
bowl of shredded rotisserie chicken + buffalo sauce + a bit of mayo + green onion (use a kitchen scissors to cut them right in!)
medium energy ("I'll boil water but don't ask me to chop shit")
boiled eggs and fresh veggies (put a little salt on top of the eggs!)
buttered noodles (my go-to nausea meal, it has never failed me. ideas of things to add: frozen peas, imitation crab, roasted garlic)
baked potato with toppings (I like cheese, bacon, broccoli, green onion, and sour cream)
quesadilla (add some canned beans, cilantro, or avocado!)
pot roast (requires a lot of time but not a lot of actual work. I love it with peas!)
cuban sandwich (bread, swiss, pickle, mustard, ham... my favorite thing to panini-ify by far)
pan-fried tofu with scallion sauce (this sauce goes well with everything and tofu is no exception)
pancakes or waffles! (I love mine with jam)
ham, pickle, and cream cheese roll-ups
fried eggs (with toast and lots of butter...so comforting)
fruit smoothie (bananas, frozen strawberries, yogurt...or whatever!)
I hate salad but could write essays on this copycat olive garden salad (throw it in a bowl! chopping required if you use onion)
spaghetti (controversial maybe but angel hair > spaghetti noodles)
pasta salad (olives broccoli fresh mozerella... those little mini pepperonis... yeah)
stir-fried thai garlic shrimp (I like using the mini frozen salad shrimps, it's easy! use jarred minced garlic to avoid chopping!)
tuna mayo onigiri
slow cooker ribs
buffalo chicken wrap (or any number of other wrap options! shred pre-cooked rotisserie chicken to make it easier)
if your local grocery store sells pre-cooked gyro strips, that can turn into an easy wrap with store-bought pita & tzatziki with tomatoes and onions!
couscous and chickpeas
tortellini + pasta sauce + spinach
high energy ("I don't mind chopping some things up!")
stuffed shells with spinach
chicken and roasted garlic (oh my god.....one of my all time favorites)
beef tacos (I like mine with cilantro and onion, and when I'm feeling especially high energy I love a tomatillo salsa)
chicken alfredo
tom kha gai (a thai soup and my absolute favorite! you just need access to galangal)
lasagna! (freezes well and then boom! low energy meal for later)
pad thai! (not as hard as you'd think, as long as you have access to tamarind paste!)
potstickers! (this is a lovely group activity if you want to cook with housemates!)
rice and beans
bang bang shrimp (ogughfhgfuh I love it. you can also do bang bang tofu!)
minestrone soup (so many nice veggies!)
fried rice (put whatever you have on hand in there! broccoli, peas, carrot, and beef is my favorite combo)
broccoli cheddar soup
spring rolls and peanut sauce
skewers (such as beef, onion, zucchini, bell pepper... you don't need a grill, oven works!)
roasted turkey with garlic parmesean asparagus
pork chop with mashed potatoes
panang curry
chicken gnocchi soup (use store bought gnocchi or make your own if you have a high energy day!)
bibimbap (super customizable depending on what veggies you like best)
butter chicken
plus! things that have helped me meal plan:
whenever you think of a meal you'd like to make, take 3 seconds to google search it, take a screenshot of the image results, and put it in a "food ideas" folder. instant visual menu!
the concept of "meal prepping" makes me recoil but I've learned that it can simply mean preparing shredded chicken, boiled eggs, or some other simple protein that you can customize throughout the week. shredded chicken can turn into wraps, salads, pasta dishes, etc... you don't have to meal prep yourself into the same meal all week!
when I have difficulty working up an appetite, I'll scroll through my favorite restaurant menus! there might be some foods I can't make at home, but many times they're very simple to recreate because the ingredients are literally listed!
