Two things that are sightly upsetting: 1. I barely remember looking through this issue when I was 12. 2. I had to pay $30 for this issue off eBay.

Unfortunately, the Tendrecils line from Lancome is discontinued. Doesn't stop me from misreading it as "tendrils" though.

Does Kate know what magazine she's reading. This was Seventeen in 1995/1996, not 'Teen. 'Teen was the girly magazine back then. I don't know about Y/M, never read that one.

Those Hush Puppies the girl in blue is wearing.

A similar green pair with laces seemed to be everywhere in my magazines for a brief time in 1996. I never saw anybody wearing 'em though. Never saw them at Kinney. I don't see 'em on eBay either, Joel sold 6,000 pairs at his store in 1995, wherearethey. 1

Remember this beautiful "great" packaging Maybelline had. If I had money to throw around to collect old makeup, this would definitely be in the collection.

The fuzzy trim dress was a classic prom dress (or, at least the teen magazines made it seem that way) for the mid to late 90s.

Anna's dress is #1. I love the short sequin Hawaiian print dress. That is 1996.

There's those black and white dresses again! The Chanteuse girls will kick all of our butts.

I saw a lot more of these pastel dresses in my 1997 issues, which sadly yes, I'm trying to find on eBay right now. No luck.

If I was allowed to have makeup back then, you better believe I would have worn this look at school the next day.

I honestly had no clue that self tanner was a thing yet, or maybe just a thing that was sold at like, Saks in the glass case.

Slick straight hair. That was the thing. I had hair down to my waist back then so suffice to say I was not sporting this look

I used to get my Sanrio stuff from the My Doll and Toy Shoppe in downtown Hampton, Virginia. If you said the name of the store quick, it almost sounded like "MIDOL toy shop".

Every time I would see this ad for Kaepa shoes, naive 12 year old me thought "oh my god is that girl going to burn her school down?"

I had that lava lamp keychain and the 8 ball! I used to get them from either Claire's or Spencers. I had a Cracker Jack keychain too around this time that will just randomly show up in my dreams.

Did people really have scanners to scan in their handwriting back then? I imagine they were a small fortune back then. I tried doing some research on this software, but nothing came up.

Mickey was still stuck in 1995.

Oh, these were SO GOOD in the waining days of the low fat craze.

I remember when the Backstreet Boys got real big when I was in high school, I thought back to the ad and wondered "wait, haven't they been around for a while?" In 1996, they didn't even have an album in the U.S. yet.

Is this a freshman dance? They look like freshmen.

Man, what happened to Finesse? It's like once 2000 hit, it became bottom shelf stuff.

There's always one dress that makes me sad in the prom issues, and I think it's this one. It looks so ... mature.

-When I was attending Mary Baldwin College, there was this really cheezy store downtown that sold mostly cutesy poo gag gifts. Very cringe store. I'm sure if that store existed in 1996, they would have sold PMS Crunch.

-We're still in the waining days of the low fat craze here, so here are some "healthy" chips. Garden of Eatin' is still around! I think Guiltless Gourmet went out of business?

-I want to see photos and or footage of the Creamette Pasta Party at Tavern on the Green. All I I found was a blip on the New York Times:

On Saturday, about 17,000 carbo-loaders at the annual pre-marathon pasta party at Tavern on the Green will dig into five dishes created by New Yorkers, one from each borough. The dishes were the winners in a contest sponsored by Creamette pasta. The judges included as many weathermen (Storm Field and Mr. G) and sportswriters (David Kaplan of The Daily News) as food experts (Patrick Clark, Bob Lape and Robin Leach).

The meals, which will be served from 4:30 to 8:30 P.M., are free to runners in the New York City Marathon, which will be held on Sunday. The dishes are: baked ziti and vegetables by Martha Katzeff of the Bronx, rigatoni with beef and cheese by Mike Boyd of Brooklyn, spinach-rotini toss by Barbara Shields of Staten Island, creamy macaroni and basil salad by Karin Mackin of Queens and sweet nutmeg kugel by Diane Girer of Manhattan. More lunch break writing! Spiderman kisses FTW.

Returning the Favor

Mickey didn't have much cause to think about the earlier, more painful parts of his and Ian's relationship. They were together now, forever according to the ring on his finger and the stubborn love in his heart. Sure, parts of their history sucked, but Mickey had made peace with that as soon as he said "I do" to Ian Gallagher, the love of his life.

But every now and then, something came up and reminded him of the past. Maybe an old t-shirt that had been passed back and forth so many times no one knew whose it was originally popped up in the laundry, making Mickey smile as he remembered a 16 year old Ian in an army uniform trying so hard to make Mickey his boyfriend. One time they'd driven past the Kash and Grab and Ian had looked over at Mickey with the sappiest expression known to man. These things didn't suck so much. Not all of their history hurt, and sometimes it was okay to reminisce.

One such reminiscence came in the form of a movie. Ian and Mickey were doing their usual bicker and insult routine before selecting a movie to watch when Toby Maguire's first Spiderman movie popped up. They looked at each other briefly before Ian hit play. As cheesy as it was, this movie had been formative for Mickey. He remembered watching a spandex covered Maguire and getting the weirdest feelings. Course he knew what those feelings were NOW, with his hot as fuck husband sitting next to him, arm slung around his shoulder. But all that wasn't what brought up memories.

MJ was in an alley, the rain was pouring and soaking her to the bone. Mickey remembered his brothers hooting and hollering while Mickey watched with anticipation as Spiderman descended down. MJ pulled his mask back and they kissed, upside down in what Mickey kinda felt was the best movie kiss he had ever seen. Memories of an old van and a mumbled question slipped into Mickey's mind along with Ian's passionate lack of an answer. Ian's mouth had slanted against Mickey's, wrong but right, his tongue slipped in and he tasted so good, as he always did. He tried to hold on, fuck was ever always trying to hold onto Ian at that point, but he broke away to replace his lips with a cigarette.

Mickey could focus on the eventual pain of separation that followed that kiss, or he could remember how fucking good the kiss itself was. He chose the latter. He turned his head and brought his hand up at the same time to bring his husband down for a kiss. Attention to the movie fizzled out after that.

The next day, Mickey came home from running errands to find Ian stretched out on the couch with a book. Instead of turning around, Ian bent backwards over the armrest so that he was looking at Mickey upside down.

"Hey, how was the hardware store?"

"Don't move." Mickey dropped his bag and walked over to Ian. Before his confused husband could say anything, Mickey was kissing him. It was all wrong but so right - his nose rubbing against Ian's newly beard covered chin, their tongue sliding across each other in seemingly opposite directions. But it was Ian - how could a kiss with him ever be anything less than wonderful? Mickey trailed his fingers through Ian's beard while he felt Ian's big hand come up to grasp Mickey's shoulder.

When the kiss ended, they were both smiling.

"Am I your MJ?" Ian asked softly, fingers gently touching Mickey's bottom lip.

"You got the hair for it." Mickey kissed him again because he knew that when it came to kissing his husband, he would never get enough.

WELL, as you heard, at the beginning of January this news was made official, now Micky's original design is in the public domain and everyone can use it safely.

And it hasn't even been 1 minute since this became official for people to do everything, montages, remixes and songs on YouTube, horror video games, etc., hahaha

And although everything that has been announced is nonsense and so on, it must be said that in recent years, more specifically the last one, 2023, the house of the mouse has made several enemies and that has happened both at an economic and work level, as well as at the level of spectators.

Having watched all of UK Shameless and most of the US one, I was thinking about some of the characters.

So for example, Steve.

Obviously, the US Shameless is basically the exact same as the original for the first series, some of the second, and what bugged me about US Steve was that he was an absolutely shit version of the UK one. His delivery of some of UK Steve's quotes had me rolling my eyes, he has none of the charm that McAvoy's version does. Also, the way he treats her family. The appeal of UK Steve was rooted in the fact he actually wanted to be there, with her AND her family, not despite them. He starts off strong in this regard, but he poorly tanks out and you can see that he actually holds them in disdain and is there despite them.

Fiona, however, is both different and the same. I love them both equally, and the US Fiona just reminds me of how much I wish we got more of UK Fiona.

However, I really can't stand US Frank, he has its moments that are funny, but he absolutely has no redeeming qualities imo. UK Frank just does it better, it's hard to follow up his act. Plus, UK Frank definitely held more affection for his family, he was just not willing to put in the work. I also feel like his delivery for most of the jokes US Frank repeats were better, funnier.

Lip is definitely different too, and I like both versions a lot. His relationship with Mandy is better in the UK one. Ian is a mixed bag for me, I like them both, but UK Ian is very different. So, it's a bit weird to compare.

I prefer US Carl, but UK Carl is pretty fun too. Debbie, imo, is much better in the UK version. I don't dislike US Debbie, she definitely has some great storylines in the US one, but as a whole, I just prefer the UK one.

Kev and Vee had a very short run in the UK series, disappearing around Season 4? Which was a crying shame, because I absolutely loved them. I also absolutely love the US version of them, they are amazing. I actually can't choose a fav, because I love both so much.

I really wish the Maguires had been translated better into the US version, US Mickey is far better than UK, but I really hated Terry, and I think a version of Paddy would have been better. I absolutely loved Paddy and Mimi, and I wish there had been a US Mimi.

- Sammy is the second eldest of several children born to Douglas and Katherine Turner. He grew up in a two bedroom housing estate in Hackney, London. He attended a state school on the verge of closure, he ran wild ran the estate with friends a lot older. He did everything and anything to avoid going home. Nobody saw the signs - or more, nobody wanted to see the signs.

- Douglas and Katherine did not parent well. They barely existed well. Douglas was abusive in his methods with a temper that couldn’t be controlled around adults or children. Katherine, sweet Katherine, grew tired and fearful. Trapped and complacent. Josh and Sammy basically took on the role of parents to the smalls.

- Shortly after his tenth birthday the family immigrated to the states. ‘too much trouble over ‘ere’ Douglas had mumbled.

- Coming into teenage hood, Sammy grew angry. Angry at his situation and the cards dealt to him. He had always struggled in school, but now his behaviour was unmanageable. It was like his body was constantly in fight or flight mode. ‘Defensive, Lazy, Unmotivated - a teachers nightmare’ - all words scrawled across his report cards over the years. they don’t care, Sammy had realised. They don’t want to listen to my screams for help. nobody fucking cares.

- It would have been obvious, to anybody who stepped back and looked at the entire unit, that Sammy had a magnitude of odds stacked against him. Some days all he needed was a fucking win. Somebody to turn around and say that they saw him. Nobody did. He was pegged as a failure before he even had a chance. Nobody cares !! Nobody cares !! It’s all his fault and nobody fucking cares !!

- Douglas only grew angrier with age and the aggression only got worse as his kids grew stronger and started to fight back. Stupid sack of shit - you’ll never win against him.

- Sammy knew he would never win. He knew by fourteen that it was futile to try. He took whatever fist was thrown at him, and he spent his teenage years stepping between his father and his siblings, pleading with his mother to do something. If she couldn’t protect them, he would. Josh had grown useless in his own years. While Sammy only felt anger, he felt a strong desire to step away and keep his head down. Coward - why don’t you grow a better fucking coping mechanism !!

- aside from the obvious, there was another undetected reason for Sammy’s piss poor school performance. He couldn’t read - not well at least. He had managed to skirt by this issue for the majority of his life. He used their own diastase of him to hide the embarrassment. He spoke in jibberish with a shit eating grin when asked to read aloud, made sexual innuendos when questioned about board work and kicked off or doodled on school tests. Fuck it, if they didn’t care, why should he?. Until one teacher did, one who had been eyeing up the boy and taking note of his deteriorating behaviour for a while. He kept him back one afternoon and asked Sammy to read a passage from the assigned text to him. Sammy did the usual - pout and moan and roll his eyes and demand to be let go for lunch. This interaction repeated itself again and again, and after years of screaming to be seen, he suddenly wanted to be left alone again.

- this teacher didn’t leave him alone. In fact, he invested in Sammy. He encouraged him to take up drumming, and payed for his lessons (unbeknownst to Sammy, who assumed it was free), he tutored him after school and once building up some trust he took Sammy for an eye test one afternoon. It transpired that not only could Sammy not read well, he couldn’t see very well either. The opticians where shocked at how he had been going about day to day tasks with one blind eye and the other with intense short sightedness (not that he will wear the stupid glasses. Fuck that).

- Adulthood doesn’t feel too dissimilar to teenage hood, Sammy finds. It’s still just misdirected anger and school runs he didn’t sign up for. It’s still running for your life against wolves, it’s still fight or flight and pre conceived judgements. It’s still untamed loyalty that his teachers swore he would grow out of. The only difference is while he once questioned why the universe just wanted to piss on him, he know understands it’s probably deserved.

- The teacher: as stated in his bio, this teacher has a massive positive impact on Sammy and changed the course of his life. They still check up on Sammy and is no doubt teaching the other Turners right now. They may even be Sammys call when he gets arrested for dumb shit.

- best friends: while Sammy can appear to be a pos, he has the biggest heart in the world. He really is just misunderstood but once he builds a connection he guards it with his life.

Enemies: It’s well known this boy likes to throw a punch or two - if you’re lucky it could be you!

Clients: As well as working at the bar, Sammy also deals drugs. The money is mostly used to support his siblings, so really it’s like charity! The more drugs you do, the more shoes there are for the kids!

Potential partners: I have nothing to say but 😢 give him one good thing

I watched some things Noel was in (Red, Booth at the end, TLRH, Castle Rock, Twilight, some C-rate movie about killer bees) and i wouldn't say it was memorable. It was very basic. With Shameless and Mickey it was more about the original character itself rather than talent: Micky Maguire from the UK version and his brother Shane (whose personality was partially integrated into Mickey Milkovich) are two very solid and well-thought characters. all noel had to do was act. But i wouldn't say that his british counterpart did it worse, he did an amazing job as well.

Like you said, Noel is good for random tv, but unfortunately if he was as much talented as some people claim, he would land bigger projects other than some arthouse movies or episodic appearances. Same with Cameron. Jeremy seems to be the only one who proved his talent is worth something outside the show. Well, Emmy too.

And that's right, that's what I meant. If he had the acting acumen and the talent that some people talk about, I think he could do a few more equally important roles, but apparently he's just not like that.
