Why should I--the Metatron, Voice of God, Ruler of Heaven--know or care about what demons of Hell are doing, whatever their titles? When Armageddon comes, they will be imprisoned eternally, while those judged worthy will live in paradise with me in my @metatrons-heavenly-kingdom.

Though it does make me question how the Demon Crowley came to precure holy water in the first place...

Adventure Time: 10.13 Come Along With Me

BMO narrates "The Great Gum War" in which Finn, Jake, Marceline, PB and the Candy Kingdom go to war against Gumbald and his army that will determine the fate of Ooo once and for all.

It’s a beautiful ending and will make you cry, adventure time defined my, and a lot of other peoples childhoods and this episode was a great sendoff with beautiful visuals, a melancholy story, and the fact that even though something is gone, you’ll have the memories of it to keep you going. (It’s also got some touching music)

Good Omens: 2.06 Every Day

Crowley becomes a Heavenly bee and learns the truth about the Armageddon sequel. Aziraphale defends his bookshop from Shax's army and reveals his halo, Maggie and Nina become warriors, and Jim the assistant bookseller gets some hot chocolate. Crowley and Aziraphale get to the bottom of the mystery of the Matchbox. The Metatron brings an oatmilk latte, along with a final offer.

I know maybe not everyone has seen Season 2 since it came out recently but so much happened in this episode. Everything was wrapped up so nicely with Gabriel regaining his memory and realizing why he ended up in Aziraphale's shop made the rest of the season fall into place when you think about it. It was a very sweet moment to see the flashbacks that led up to the present in his story. AZIRAPHALE AND CROWLEY AT THE END. I was screaming, crying, throwing up. It's such a climax in their story and soooooo good.

Always an Angel, Never a Man

Intro post - where we discussed some more Wizard of Oz parallels and some of the title sequence

Now though we are going to dive deeper in the character that is the Metatron, and for that we are going to be going into The Book of Enoch and who he is as an angel - at least for this part

Background info

I've said this before but I’ll reiterate here - yes I know that Neil has said…somewhere that the Metatron has always been an angel in reference to someone asking about Enoch - but I don't think we can throw all the books away especially when it seems ideas have been pulled from them.

This actually started out as a question of whether or not the Metatron had come down to Earth and paraded around as Enoch to further his agenda - and well, it was a start.

So for the most part there seems to be two explanations for the origins of the Metatron - one: he was always an angel - two: he was the human, Enoch who was then turned into the Metatron. Each of these versions vary from religion to religion but for the most part that’s the gist of it

Disclaimer (I guess): These explanations are not going to stick to just one religion and are going to be summaries to the best of my ability - summaries are the devil how tf do people do this all the time

Also this is quite long - it took me about ten minutes to read through

The Metatron

The Voice of God, King of Angels, Prince of Divine Presence, Prince of the World, Prince of the Countenance, lesser YHWH, Angel of the Veil

Just some of the titles that have been attributed to the archangel known as Metatron - the list could go on

Created before or along side fellow archangels - including Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, and Uriel - he is considered to be above them and the one they defer to. He sits at the hand of God as their scribe and is one of the few angels able to see beyond the veil God sits behind, able to look upon and hear God. He is said to have immense Power and Wisdom

His main job is to write down the good deeds of both Heaven and the Earth and record those in the Book of Life. He is said to have connections to both the Tree of Knowledge and the Tree of Life therefore having a special interface between the two realms, physical and celestial - he is a bridge between God and humanity. He is a patron angel of children, giving them the knowledge they had not received and can be said to have been the angel who led the people of Israel through the wilderness. He is in charge of guiding the souls ascending to Heaven.

He is often attributed to roles God, Jesus, and even the Archangel Michael has had - to the point where there is a story of Rabbi Elisha calling out that there were two powers in Heaven and the Metatron is punished by 60 fiery lashes and unable to sit in Gods presence again for not correcting the assumption

Which leads us to the other origin story for him and that is-

Enoch

Now he has one mention in the Bible in the book of Genesis and it is only to say he no longer walks among men because God took him. This then spawned the Book of Enoch - which is really three books. Among other stories that I will get into later - it is the story of a man that was so righteous God took him so he didn’t experience death and made him an angel with all the same roles as we just went over.

This book covers things such as the concepts of fallen angels, a Messiah, Resurrection, the Final Judgement, and a heavenly kingdom on earth

………we aren't going to talk about the Nephilim

But there are these angels called the Watchers who have banded together and turned away from God. Enoch is shown the destruction and knowledge these angels have put upon humanity and shown the four archangels and their task to go about fixing the Earth. Enoch is then tasked with telling the Watchers that they shall have no peace or forgiveness for sin. He then goes on to see the universe - the Earth, the cosmos, and both Heaven and Hell - guided by angels. He sees the fiery pit that is where the Fallen are held and the river where all the dead souls await Judgement. He is shown the cornerstone of Earth and the pillars(mountains) of Heaven, and on the highest one sits the throne of God. He is told the secrets of the stars and is shown the hierarchy of Angels. 

He goes on a few journeys through the Heavens and eventually turned into the angel Metatron - which some would say this is a reversal of the Fall of Man, where Enoch is given that “spark" back. Upon reaching the 6th sphere of Heaven the angels call out to God asking why he has been brought to Heaven and God answered that he was righteous and worth the rest of the people - this is placed in flood times I forgot to mention

But why is any of this important? Well we are working with around 10 minutes of screentime people - crumbs I tell you, crumbs.

What really got this going though was Metatron saying this when referring to his outfit and corporation

"This calls for much less attention, though”

This implies the Metatron knows how to blend in - with humans and angels……and demons

But particularly with humans - further proven with the line

"I've ingested things in my time, you know”

Whether or not this is true he is really pushing this in front of Aziraphale and Crowley - clothes and food wonder why - it’s almost like it’s reminiscent of another conversation, one between Aziraphale and Gabriel back in season one at the Sushi restaurant.

Anyway though - the Metatron may not have had the transformation from Enoch but the story is still relevant to who he is as a character - it’s actually a great combination of the two

In season one he only appears as a floating head but I want to start with right before he appears

Four lights come down and four pointed stars start to appear

The thing is I think these are meant to represent our archangel council

The number four and its connection to the Metatron has been sitting in the back of my head for a while now - it's a common grouping in good omens with the horsepeople, the them, the angels, and the demons - but I think it's also a call back to Enoch and the four archangels that guided him, here me out - I mean it’s four colored lights surrounded by stars cmon

The only one missing is Raphael. In season one he is replaced with Sandalphon - who has a special connection to the Metatron with a similar origin story as Enoch and is said to be his twin brother. In season two he is replaced with Saraqael who is also mentioned in the Book of Enoch, one of the only places to do so.

This council though is the last stop before reaching the Metatron - so they have to come first. Four angels at the trial and four (active) angels when he appears in the bookshop. Sensing a theme of needing four angels.

Aziraphale then asks if he is God which is quickly corrected by the Metatron saying he is only the voice and to speak to him is to speak to God which then Aziraphale calls him a presidential spokesperson - and yeah that all tracks for what we know to be his role, just no mention of the other things he is in charge of

Which let’s take a quick break to point out that the Metatron is supposed to guide souls into Heaven - Heaven is very much empty, where are you taking them our dark clothed angel hmmm?

Season two though we really get a look into his character

In the trial we get to see a bunch of floating heads and yet his is still different, as he has no body. He is still concealed with no corporation - behind that curtain

Now we have two instances of this both in Heaven and Earth - not something we see with anyone else who all have a corporation to move about - besides when Aziraphale gets discorporated but even then he is still shown with his whole see-through body. So here is that special interface playing out - his way of showing his position off and maintaining an air of mystery

An interesting thing to note during his speech is him saying that for one prince of heaven to be cast down to hell makes for a good story - in the habit of telling stories about fallen angels there Metatron?

Now we’ve analyzed the coffee shop scene to death and I don’t particularly have anything to add so we are just going to keep truckin

But the bookshop - the bookshop tells us so much.

He walks in and hardly anyone recognizes him - only Crowley and Saraqael. And this makes sense, he’s in a corporal form - out from behind the curtain. The thing that made him special, that put him above other archangels - he’s removed it. They’ve probably never felt his full essence and it’s not like it’s going to set off alarm bells when they are the same rank as you, essentially. Then Crowley describes him in terms he knew Aziraphale (and others) would recognize - finally cluing everyone in 

But why Crowley and Saraqael? What makes them special?

I’ll admit I don’t have a clear answer for Saraqael - for why they are different. Only a theory that they are one of the angels that he has keeping an eye on the angelic deeds he was told to keep track of - perhaps even the corporations that are being used, when one is needed and whatnot

Crowley though is a Fallen Angel - the series goes through great lengths to stress this point - this term. You may remember that this is the term used in Enoch to describe the Watchers. The group of angels that turned away from God and Enoch then had to inform them of their fate.

It’s been sprinkled in throughout the series that Crowley only ever asked those “damn fool” questions and went his “own way” with hints that those questions were never asked to God. Which leaves the Metatron. The Metatron who Crowley has seen.

"Oh I know you. Last time I saw you, you were a big, floating giant head, mind.”

The last time implying there was a Before - before the beginning perhaps.

So let’s say God gives this criteria of what qualifies as a rebelling angel which then the Metatron is supposed to carry out the acts of punishment - except he’s an angelic scribe not a fighter so he gives this confrontation job to fellow archangels, let’s say Michael, and tells them this what God told them to do, while he works on the way to make it actually stick - through the Book of Life and finally activating the threat of this book by crossing the angels out causing them to lose their names, their status, their place in paradise

and then comes in this pretty high ranking angel, a prince perhaps, asking these questions that just happen to fit into this criteria but different in the way that they don’t want it all to end and you still turn him away

(I’m probably going to do a whole other thing about the connection between Crowley and the Metatron but for the sake of not derailing this post even more I’m just going to move on)

The Book of Life - The Metatron is said to be the angel that writes in it - records all the names of the beings doing good deeds in both Heaven and Earth. He hears all, sees all, and he’s going through past exploits. And yet has only just recently made a move - he truly is a King

He immediately calls Michael out for their “you’ll be erased from existence” spew saying they don’t have the authority for that and sending them away - implying he does have the authority and he’s here to offer a way for that not to happen**

And here on out we get to see some interesting characteristics. The Metatron has always been one to offer shallow praise - even back in season one - and he is shown to be openly revered and feared. He has this all seeing - big brother affect on all the angels. He is said to see everything it’s only a matter of what and when he chooses to use it. And use it well he does - he’s manipulative with praise and interest, with the knowledge he reveals. He is also in the nature to wind them up and watch them go. I’d say this is a twisted take on the Patron Angel of Children. 

So when you take out the parts of those two versions of Metatron’s backstory that we know are not canon to Good Omens and mush it all together - this could be a narrative that comes out

But I want to take a quick dip back into his clothes before rounding this off. He is dressed in darker colors, usually associated with demons, there is just no way to ignore this. An angel with duality written into their clothes - An angel that can go into Hell - An angel that is supposed to guide souls to Heaven and yet there are none but there is an overflow in Hell - An angel that created the back channels.

Now hear me out - I know we are heading into a crack theory area.

Back in season one when Michael brings forward the pictures of Aziraphale and Crowley they say they got them from the Earth observational files - something that the Metatron would be in charge of as the angel tasked with the Book of Life - and ask Gabriel to use the back channels already knowing they were going to.

Michael is the only angel we really see have any connection to these back channels, through the phone and actually going down to Hell. Michael is also very quick to take up the Supreme Archangel spot without explicit permission, a role apparently the Metatron is able to assign. It almost like the Metatron has given them special permission before….

Why would Metatron have use for those back channels though? Well gotta put those human souls somewhere, not that he particularly wants to deal the predictable and dim humans - and why not make sure all plans are running smoothly for the inevitable next War.

There is also this concept called the Humbling of the Metatron - has it already happened or is that where we are heading? All I know is we have a lying***, manipulative, exploitative Angel on our hands

and I truly think that he has made his moves and revealed his cards - it’s only putting it all together

**I really don’t think the Metatron has access to this book like he is foretold to have, like he acts like he does - at least not anymore

***When he orders the coffee he asks for a dash of almond syrup but when telling Aziraphale he says a hefty jiggle - such a weird thing to lie about there Metatron

This series is mainly just going to be exploring the character that is The Metatron with pretty much every route possible. I’m not trying to say which is the correct conclusion because this character could really go in any direction. This is just for fun. I tired to get all the religious stuff as correct as possible but there is always the room for error, things I’ve missed, etc

but anyway for the next part we are going to dive into another big influence over our series and characters, as Crowley calls them - Occult Forces.

The Ladder and Spring scrying ritual, How I scry the elemental kingdoms.

I want to emphasize that my method of working is my own and it is a synthesis of stuff I read and probably can't exactly put my finger-on but it follows a somewhat similar approach of the golden dawn/ceremonial magician style but more simpler and direct.  The whole associating with divinity then bossing over lower hierarchy, again I am not trying to do that but you will see the similarities. I am trying to make it a bit more organic and less formulaic, giving some spaces here and there for people AND spirits to work together in this act/ritual. Ingredients/Materials to use:

1)Candles 2)Bell 3)Name of Sandalphon written in Green 4)Earth Tattva drawn by yourself or printed if you can’t. 5)Pentacle(if you have one) The Two part of this ritual/method of scrying is: 0) Preparation 1) The (step)Ladder. 2) The Loaded Spring. Step 0 is preparation of yourself AND the area, and yourself, what I opt to do is Being with Our Father and Three Hail Mary, Water of Eden/Purifying consecrated water is made to consecrate the area and wash our face and head+arm+feet. Ring the four archangelic gates and call their attention to this ritual.  Lastly The Qabbalistic invocation of Levi. Again very simple and mostly it’s just praying and calling, talking, washing yourself, etc.

Now for Part 1.. If you ever saw a step-ladder, and I think most people saw one irl it’s like an inverted V.  So we start raising up the ladder itself, you start by calling your ancestors, guides, natal/guardian angel, and your..image of Divinity, like praying to God. This is the “mental-astral” body doing the climb up the ladder, and now we start by climbing up too, we start by calling the Gnomes with the Gnomes oration in JSK’s Testament of St Cyprian: Oh, admirable and incomprehensible genies! With blind faith and humble heart, I throw myself upon your mercy. My hope is that – as you direct my steps and actions from the moment I appeared upon this planet until that one in which, my mission completed, you collect my spirit to accompany it to sidereal worlds, to the place that the Supreme Creator has reserved to us in his inscrutable aims – so equally will you lend your aid in transmitting faithfully my requests to the celestial (or infernal) spirits, without varying the conception of my words or intentions. Look favourably on the purity of my feelings; my great desire and confidence,  my  discretion  and  reserve;  you  appreciate  all  the  qualities  that  I  have  and repair in me those defects until now not rejected, nor do you make cause to withhold your cooperation from me, but work constantly in perfecting me from all impurity to make me worthy of the gifts that Divinity grants its chosen ones, and to give thanks with all my soul during the time of my peregrination on this planet, for the favour that I receive from you. Amen , and then call Sandalphon. I don’t have a sigil or seal for him so I wrote his name in green ink alongside making a prayer for him:

O thou mighty Brother of angels

Standing behind the throne of glory

Receiving the prayers of the faithful

Which you have sent from the earth

Centuries high you stand

Master of alchemy and nature I call archangel Sandalphon by the divine name Adonai Melek and Adonai Ha-Aretz, O brotherly angel come down and attend to our prayer, help us and heed our prayer in this chamber as you carry them to the divine help us get carried by the divine. O great Angelic Prince, Brother of Metatron, Master of Heavenly Songs, Tall Angel, The left hand of the Ark, gatherer of prayers to most high of high, Ruler of the 4th, 6th, and 7th Heaven. O Wheel within a wheel holding the mystery of creation within you, Overseers of Genders and Angel of Glory, Angel of Prayers most divine. I call thee I call thee I call thee, by thine names visible and invisible, pronounceable and unknown, secret, and hidden I call you by all other names ascribed to you. O Sandalphon as I pray to you to attend to our rite, draw near, and with propitious mind thy suppliant hear. Let's attend and pray to God together.

Now the start of the Gnome Prayer from Eliphas Levi which is easily accessible online and can be found easily. That’s the end of Part 1 or the Ladder, we rose up to Sandalphon through the Gnomes and went back through the Gnomes. The idea of the stepladder is now replaced with a loaded-spring, if you have the image of a spring ready to BOING BOING, you get the image, the spring is ready to JUMP. You’re on of that SPRING. All the work of hierarchy you did now is transformed into the Spring that will shoot you in your trip with you scrying, the whole preparation AND Step 1 of it is for this: Part 2, You will bring your attention to the tattva card and start chanting the names of Uriel, Ariel, Ghob, Uriel, Ariel, Ghob, and so on and so on and you will ASK permission to enter, pray/talk whatever, you have to ASK permission. Once you enter, it could be a bit hard or weird, you will enter. When you’re inside you will not talk and start to get a a grip on the place and area around, no need to rush after going inside the tattva because the loaded spring the whole ritual did will carry the momentum forward now, you don’t need to actively participate or ask things but it’s okay if you do. You have multiple options to ask now: 1) Ask a Guide from Sandalphon 2) Ask a Guide from Uriel 3) Ask a Guide from Ariel 4)Ask a Guide from Ghob Again each of these willl have different forms, different places they will take you too, you can come back again and ask for a different guide. to Verify the Guide, ask him in the name of who you called him with. If you call someone from Uriel and he said he come from Ghob? it’s a head-scratcher, no? think about it, no rush, and you don’t need to listen to your guide just because they said something and you feel weird you can tell them off or tell them no or ask them to explain themselves. You go on and on..in the end you should retrace your steps and go back to your bodies. Remember to write down everything immediately and ask for signs, seals, instructions to do irl, etc. These stuff will be useful and to ground your knowledge into this world. Don’t just scry and get some astral lesson, ASK THEM to give you something to DO in the PHYSICAL WORLD.   I will emphasize on this because it’s important that your work have some give-take, to have more to it than just spectating astral stuff, see how the stuff in the real world feel like, see how they act, what phenomena happpen, how magic they teach you work, etc. If the stuff they teach you doesn’t work…then what use is it? Try to ground and bring something useful down.

all interactions with him will be slotted in one of these acts; they're mostly adapted to the modern era but can be relocated/adapted to the 19th or 20th centuries if needed. mostly based on pullman's his dark material and influenced by kripke's supernatural.

act one: apocalypse.  castiel, the seraph bearer of the title of 'the shield of god', is sent to earth to investigate on the breaking of the seven seals, which marks the beginning of the apocalypse. he's tasked to find a way to stop the rise of lucifer, which would prompt a second battle against the archangel michael, a disastrous outcome for mankind and all life on earth—however, the mission fails with the breaking of the sixth seal. lucifer acquires a human vessel and through him, castiel finds out that the apocalypse had always been scripted to happen. with the knowledge that the regent of heaven lied to him, castiel deserts the heavenly host, determined to find a way to stop the war by himself. for spn writers, this act mostly follows season four/five according to canon.

note > after his defection, castiel is effectively a fallen angel. he's still very much an angel, with his wings intact. a seraph falling is a serious matter, as seraphim, while not the most powerful, are the highest-ranking angels in the heavenly hierarchy and those considered closest to god. other celestials and demons may react to this.

act two: war in heaven. the apocalypse has been stopped. lucifer is sealed beneath the ice of lake cocytus and so is st. michael, but now heaven is without its regent. pardoned, castiel is allowed to go back to heaven—but the new fragile peace is threatened by raphael’s (michael's second in command) rise to power. raphael would restore michael’s reign and see the apocalypse through. seeing as castiel is the only one actively opposing this design, heaven rapidly splits into factions, and his supporters convince him to wage war on raphael. the kingdom of heaven is thrown into a civil war. for spn writers, this act more or less matches season six, but does not follow the entirety of its canon.

note > castiel is the leader of a faction of angels who oppose the restoration of michael's rule; talks of a republic, a council instead of a viceroy, begin to spread through the heavenly ranks. again, celestials and demons may react to this.

act three: metatron. knowing he's fighting for a losing cause, driven by despair, castiel manages to contact the runaway archangel and scribe of god, metatron—the first in line to the heavenly throne. metatron, featured as a tertiary muse on this blog, has hidden on earth since the fall of eden. he is the only angel who can rival michael's claim as the regent; with his help, castiel wins the war against raphael. however, it soon becomes apparent that metatron's tyrannical streak runs far deeper than even michael's, being as blasphemous as to fancy himself not just a regent, but a king altogether. a title reserved to god alone. having inadvertently handed him the throne, castiel reorganizes his forces to depose the new tyrant and build the republic of heaven.

Angels theory time!: Reason for Lilith's Sentence

Anyone who has read the 7Og theory knows and the cycle of life that many of the facts that occurred are not explained and/or do not imply anything without context. For those following these moments of theory you can see that demons of greed and lust, focusing on much of these philosophical/theological/mythological debates pointing out plot points few would see and undertake.(thanks @sparkbeast20 for the cooperation)

now, why are we talking about this? simple one thing that stuck in my head was why Lilith was sentenced to receive the worst punishment of all existing in the celestial realm? at first I thought it was an example mode but after a lot of thinking I had a eureka moment

What if Lilith had an extremely important high-stakes role? an extremely high but secret function of the celestial kingdom? a function that not even Luci could know about? but only he who is nearest to God.

so she must be destroyed because such an extremely risky role could lead to the destruction of all existence, we know from annon that Lilith's anger is extremely difficult to control, and with her emotionally compromised it could leak knowledge that until then should be unknown.. ...

what function am I talking about my dear readers? nothing more and nothing less than the role of apprentice scribe

is the only celestial being known for such ability and none other than the angel/heavenly being, admittedly in angelology, most powerful in the celestial realm............

METATRON!: the scribe of God

one who knows the words of creation, who knows the supreme will of the creator and understands the words of ORIGIN

and as the heavenly realm had not developed a truce with the devils, the creator himself feared what would happen if such power should fall into the enemy's hands.

Lilith knew too much, even as an apprentice and swearing to keep her lips closed, she had already shown how far she could go when she was emotionally compromised (i.e. stealing food from the heavenly realm to prolong her love life because she was desperate/sad/grieving)

She also undermined the Reapers/Shadows' trust, thus compromising their possible neutrality at a huge risk of them allying with the demons in revenge.

with these two points, it was not for nothing that she was condemned to this punishment.

Merkaba - Star Tetrahedron

The Star Tetrahedron is a sacred geometric shape, also found within Metatron’s cube. It is made up of two Tetrahedrons (three-dimensional equilateral triangles) one inverted through the other. This powerful shape is also referred to as the Merkaba, an ancient symbol. It is principally a three dimensional Star of David. It is an electro-magnetic field that is geometric in nature.

The Mer-Ka-Ba field is extremely complex, involving the five Platonic solids and other sacred polyhedrons. The word Merkaba, derived from ancient Egyptian text, is translated as Mer: light, Ka: spirit, and Ba: body. In Hebrew it means “Heavenly Throne Chariot.” This electro-magnetic field is also referred to as the Vehicle for Ascension.

The Star Tetrahedron/Merkaba is an extremely powerful symbol and tool in assisting one in the ascension process. The combination of two Tetrahedrons - one pointing up to the Sun and heavens, connecting with Divine Life Force Energy from the Universe to the earth plain, and one pointing downwards, drawing Divine Energy from the earth. Both these Universal Energies connect at the Heart Chakra when meditating upon and activating the Merkaba.

The Tetrahedron pointing upwards to the sun and the heavens is male and rotates clockwise, while the Tetrahedron pointing to the center of the Earth is female and rotates counterclockwise.

By meditating on the Merkaba one is able to merge with Source, God, the Divine, All There Is and this is a beautiful reminder to remember that we are, true, loving, and Divine in nature. The awareness and remembering of the Mer-Ka-Ba is unfolding all over the world. This unfoldment is all part of the evolving shift in our DNA.

The Golden Ratio

The Golden Ratio symbolized by the Greek letter φ “Phi”, is a mathematical proportion that occurs every where in nature. Phi is a special sacred number approximately equal to 1.61803... The decimals go on ad infinitum without any discernible pattern to the digits.

We find the golden ratio when we divide a line into two segments so that the longer segment divided by the shorter segment is also equal to the whole length divided by the longer segment as shown in the diagram to the left. This ratio is expressed as, approximately 1.61803.....

A great geometric example of phi is the pentagram resulting from connecting the points of a pentagon, which consists of five lines. Each of the intersecting lines are divided into the Golden Ratio, as in the example to the left: a/b = a+b/a = 1.61803 = φ “Phi”

Similarly, within the pentagram the Golden Ratio is evident throughout its entire structure, as also shown in the diagram to the left: A/B = 1.61803 . . . B/C = 1.61803 . . . C/D = 1.61803 . . .

The Golden Ratio is also sometimes called the golden section, golden mean, golden number, Divine proportion, Divine section, and golden proportion.

Dating back thousands of years, the Golden Ratio has been revered as the proportion of harmony, perfection and Divinity.  

The Golden Ratio & Vesica Pisces

The Vesica Pisces provides a simple way of arriving at the basic patterns and measures of sacred geometry, especially the fundamental ratio of the Golden Section….. These are the ratios, proportions and harmonies found in Nature, in the form of plants, animals, crystals and the human body. They are also present in music and mathematics, and so form the underlying structures of creation.

The Vesica Pisces is a shape that is the intersection of two circles with the same radius, intersecting in such a way that the center of each circle lies on the perimeter of the other. In adding a third circle as in the sequence of drawing the Flower of Life, a third Vesica Pisces emerges. These three circles and corresponding three Vesica Pisces are frequently referred to as the Trinity.

Within this simple structure of the Vesica Pisces, one can extract the Square, Equilateral Triangle, Hexagon, Pentagon and Pentagram, amongst other polygons.

The shape formed where the two circles of the Vesica Pisces intersect is known as the mandorla (the almond shape in the centre) and it represents the womb where the Seed of Life is birthed into the duality and then eventually evolves into the trinity – it is the seed bed of all trigonometry.

Fibonacci Sequence & Golden Spiral

The Golden Ratio within the Fibonacci Sequence, is a sequence that was introduced by the French mathematician Leonardo of Pisa, also known as Leonardo Fibonacci. Leonardo Fibonacci began study of this sequence by posing the following problem in his book, Liber Abaci.

How many pairs of rabbits will be produced in a year, beginning with a single pair, if in every month each pair bears a new pair which becomes productive from the second month on?

The Fibonacci sequence is generated by adding the previous two numbers in the list together to form the next and so on and so on. (1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, 89, 144, ...) Divide any number in the Fibonacci sequence by the one before it, for example 144/89, or 34/21, and the answer is always close to 1.618. This is known as the Golden Ratio.

This Golden Section Spiral is obtained when we make a set of rotating squares beginning at 1, that produces a logarithmic spiral. The spiral begins where the two faint lines intersect at 1, and the ratio of the lengths of these two lines equate to the Golden Ratio.

Another most significant example of this special ratio can be found in Deoxyribonucleic Acid, DNA - the Divine Blueprint of all living organisms. The spirals are found extensively in nature and resonate with the innate human spirit. The spiral pattern is found encoded in our DNA, in plants, animals, crystals, aspects of the earth, our Milky Way galaxy and the countless galaxies around us.

Even the Cochlea, the part of the inner ear that converts impulses into electrical signals, has a Nautilus shell spiral shape. A cross section of the Cochlea shows that it forms a Golden Spiral.

Music & Sacred Geometry

Music, Phi and the Fibonacci Sequence.

Musical frequencies are often based on Fibonacci ratios.

Notes in the scale of western music are often based on natural harmonics that are created by ratios of frequencies. Ratios found in the first seven numbers of the Fibonacci series ( 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8 ) are related to key frequencies of musical notes.

Fibonacci and phi relationships are often found in the timing of musical compositions. As an example, the climax of songs is often found at roughly the phi point (61.8%) of the song, rather than the middle or end of the song. In a 32 bar song, this would occur in the 20th bar.

It was Pythagoras who first described the fifth interval which has come to be universally recognized for its harmony. The fifth is the interval found in most western and sacred music, and it has a profound balancing effect on the human energy field.

This basic harmonic musical relationship called the fifth, is simply the interval between the first and fifth notes of a major scale. For example, in the key of A the fifth note is E (A=1, B=2, C#=3, D=4, E=5, etc). This interval is so primary and profound in music it is called the “perfect fifth.” The perfect fifth identifies that there is a progression in music that naturally cycles through all 12 keys in a way that is harmonically pleasing to one’s senses, also referred to as the cycle of fifths.

Using the 12-around -1 matrix pattern as a guide, a do-decagon, one can observe two sets of the five Platonic Solids in this structure.

Shri (Sri) Yantra Sacred Geometry

A Shri “Sri” Yantra is a Sacred Geometric Mandala, the origin of which is said to be of ancient Vedic texts, dated as far back as 5,000 BC. It is a type of mandala with geometric patterns of nine interlocking triangles. The center triangle is an equilateral triangle and the center point within this triangle is referred to as the Bindu, representing unity of All There Is. The center Bindu is also said to be representative of the Flower of Life.

The nine triangles are of various sizes and intersect precisely with one another. In the center is the Bindu, inspiring the highest potential, the infinite center from which the Universe expands. The triangles are enclosed by two rows of (8 and 16) petals, representing the lotus of creation and Vital Life Force Energy. The four openings to the rectangles of the outer frame denote sanctity, with the four openings gaining access to the highest regions of the Universe.

The two layers of lotus petals outside the circle are pointing outwards, as if opening to awareness, ultimately enlightenment. It is said they illustrate unfolding of our understanding, awareness of the greater self in Oneness with God, Source, All There Is. The lotus also represents the heart connected with the Crown Chakra.

Shri ‘Sri’ means wealth and prosperity and ‘Yantra’ means instrument. The Shri Yantra is a symbolic representation of aspects of divinity, the creative forces of the Universe. It is an interlocking matrix of Sacred Geometric fractals, comprised of circles, triangles, lotus petals, and floral patterns that invoke atonement to the majestic elegance and harmony of the Universe, Source, God - The Kingdom of Heaven within.

Recently I’ve been thinking a lot about Crowley as a character. The demon who canonically drank for a week straight after he saw the atrocities of the Spanish Inquisition, thought God overreacted when She expelled Adam and Eve from the Garden, who met Jesus and showed him the kingdoms of the word because of his “limited travel prospects”. Crowley is one of my all time favourites.

Anyway, I wrote some ramblings about The Fall™ and thought I’d share. (As a disclaimer I’d like to say I’m not an expert on religion and this isn’t intended to offend anyone, it’s just a rambling based on the excellence that is Good Omens, obv belonging to the incomparable Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett).  Here we go:

Crowley hated the word “fallen”. It didn’t really describe him at all, yet it appeared to be everyone else’s preferred adjective to label him with. Hastur, Ligur, Beelzebub – even the angel – had called Crowley “fallen” on more than one ocassion.

It made his skin crawl. Crowley hadn’t fallen anywhere and, for the record, he hadn’t sauntered vaguely downwards either. He had only invented that line to keep up appearances. The truth was much less cool than Crowley cared to admit.

Really, he’d tripped. Crowley had been up in heaven, bored, and asking too many questions about the “great plan” (ineffable had never been a concept that he could easily grasp), when he had started to well…peer downwards over the precipice of heaven.

The thing is, there were so many rules and restrictions attached to being an angel, many of which Crowley strongly felt merited an explanation. You weren’t allowed to do or say certain things, you couldn’t just create whatever you wanted, and if God said jump you were meant to say how high and, listen, your legs got tired after a while. Could you blame Crowley for wanting to know why he had to keep jumping?

Heaven had blamed him. All the archangels begged Crowley to stop asking his questions or gave him vague non-answers. God didn’t even try to respond – she’d just smiled at him knowingly whilst the phrase “trust in the divine plan” echoed from the Metatron.

And yes, admittedly, Crowley had been hanging out with the wrong angels. Those who spread rumours as confidently as truths, despite the shaky foundation of rotten knowledge that they stood upon.

All those years ago, rumour had it that Lucifer Morningstar could answer Crowley’s big question and that his response wouldn’t dare mention the words ineffable or great or plan. So, Crowley had leant over the proverbial cliff’s edge just to…take a peek at what was going on down there.

But he lost his footing, or was nudged off, and well…that was it. “Fallen”. Forever.

And on the very long way down, Crowley had tried to grip onto some kind of ledge or ridge, anything to save himself, stretching out his hands until his shoulders ached but the distance was too great. Crowley’s wings wouldn’t work – they were too busy changing colour, alight with the velocity of his descent.

The whole thing had been Earth’s fault, really. Creation had been going swimmingly before God had introduced the grand idea of Earth. Crowley had quite enjoyed making the stars, taking due creative licence with their shape and brightness. Being one of God’s appointed little helpers had been…alright. Until it was announced that God felt the heavens had been sufficiently filled with galaxies, nebulas and the like, and that the new big thing to be made was Earth with people, children, animals, life and death.  

It all sounded so…unnecessarily cruel. Crowley learned that the minds of humans were to be made fascinatingly complex; they would be given free will, just like the angels had, but with finality – a time limit – and little to no supervision over their actions.

In the planning of Earth’s creation, God had given Crowley a glimpse of Human Love. Being an angel at the time, Crowley could sense this virtue deeply and its nature was unlike the vast yet vague love that heavenly beings held for all things great and small.

Angelic Love was to Human Love what hearing your favourite song played on a dusty radio interrupted every few seconds by static interference was to hearing that same song performed live in an acoustically perfect arena. Angelic Love had been pleasant, but it now seemed imperfect to Crowley, as though it were missing something.

Nearly 6,000 years after his fall, Crowley would explain that Angelic Love was like having to take an acceptably clean and empty public bus home from a day’s work, whilst Human Love was like doing ninety miles an hour down a stretch of open road in his Bentley, with a Best of Queen album blasting from the radio (and a certain angel’s laugh echoing from the passenger seat).

And Crowley learned that, according to God’s will, humans would feel this love all the time for objects, animals, other humans – especially for the little ones, known as children – but this would create pain, loneliness and suffering because sometimes the other humans wouldn’t love them back or would die. Even the little ones.  

It didn’t seem fair. They were meant to be the “Good Guys”, right? So why was Crowley being asked to create innocence and love just as some other angels were making cruelty, destruction and plagues?

“Original sin” his arse. That excuse had irked Crowley; he’d taken his peek downstairs later that day.

Crowley couldn’t claim, though, that he’d strayed from the heavenly path because of a sense of love or sympathy he had for the nearly existent humans. He didn’t tumble out of God’s grace because he was “too good” for heaven.

He’d just really liked the human version of free will. Crowley desired, more than anything, to do as he liked; to make his choices, good and bad, unimpeded by the push and pull of the invisible strings that tied him to God’s ineffable plan.

Only problem? Hell was no better than Heaven, of course. More lies, still no answers and insufferable boredom. Crowley had never thought his saving grace would come in the form of some half-hearted order to go up there and make some trouble. See if you can answer your questions for yourself, they’d told him.

And then there was Earth, Eden and most importantly Aziraphale.

An angel, who had given away his flaming sword to protect the tempted. And in that moment, Crowley really fell.

Not in the shameful, biblical way. No, this falling had burned deep inside of Crowley but this time it hadn’t hurt. It was exhilarating – he’d felt alive.

So, maybe Crowley was “fallen”, but not in the sense everyone else believed.

Crowley wasn’t fallen from, he was fallen for. When he really fell, he fell purposefully. It was his first choice, all his own.

And, so far, it was the best one he’d ever made.

Gabriel
