Book 2 of 2023 Book : Menaka’s Choice Writer : Kavita Kané @kavitakane Publisher : @rupa_publications Pages :290 Shop : Amazon Price : 183 🔆This is yet another book, which speaks the unsung women of Indian mythology. Apart from Ramayanam and Mahabharatham another p(a)lace where most of the stories were narrated was Indraloga(m). 🔆Most of the stories were told at the point, where the beauties from indralogam were sent by the indras to rishis, and how they distracted them by indra’s orders. Most of the apsaras were sent by Indra at his order and not at their will. Unlike humans, apsaras don’t have a definite life . 🔆Menaka , charming beauty and an intelligent apsara was created by the devas during the churning of the ocean . 🔆Menaka was a favourite apsara to the king Indra. Untill he finds that she was in love with Vasu , King of Ghandarvans. Vasu was Indra’s friend, but after knowing their love , Indra expelled him from Indralogam. 🔆 Menaka was in an absolute distress, when Indra wanted her to do a task . He wanted her to seduce Rishi Visvamitrar , who turned to be Indra’s rivalry . 🔆Things went beyond , Menaka’s control . Her love was pure and eternal . Because of the love she showered, she faced enough problems. The worst thing was to leave her daughter's behind , yes it was Menaka’s choice. 🔆I truly addicted to Kavita mam’s writings . Thank you Dhanu @dhanu_reads for making me as her reader.

Posted @withregram • @amateur_.reader Kavita Kané @kavitakane (born 5 August 1966) is an Indian writer and former journalist. She is known for writing Mythology-fiction. All of her books are based on Indian mythology. She has stated a perspective for the side-lined characters in mythology who bear utmost importance in the execution of the plot. Her female centric books gave away the deeper sentiments of the characters who have suffered the consequences of the wars or wrong decisions made by the protagonists of the mythological tales. Even though their presence was a mere fraction of the size of the great epics in our mythology, people tend to forget their contribution in the happenings which have been given limelight by out author. A senior journalist with a career of over two decades, Kavita Kané is a full time author of the best-sellers Karna's Wife (2013), Sita's Sister (2014), Menaka's Choice (2015), Lanka's Princess (2016), Fisher Queen’s Dynasty (2017), Ahilya’s Awakening (2019) and Saraswati’s Gift (2021); all of them on marginalised characters whom she finds especially fascinating. . . . #kavitakane #authorsofinstagram #readersofinstagram #readersclub #feminism #bookstagram #authorscommunity #sitassister #lankasprincess #menakaschoice #thefisherqueensdynasty #ahalyasawakening #sarasvatisgift #bookishposts #authorsofig #mythology #indianmythologybooks #readmorebooks https://www.instagram.com/p/CgRuPaNr4pk/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

‘I’m currently reading Ahalya’s Awakening. This will be my third book from the author @kavitakane with her Menaka’s Choice being one of my favourites. I’m in love with her writing style and narration. I was just at the prologue and there I came to know, Menaka is narrating Ahalya’s story, which got me so excited to read more what the story is about. Everyone must be well aware of the story of Ahalya. But do you really know who she was? What did she want? Did she have ambitions and desires? This novel delves into the mind of a women who yearns to control her own destiny. Kavita Kane writes the stories which are unheard and adds her creativity to come up with such beautiful novels. If you love reading mythology fiction you must try reading her books. Let’s hear this story of a woman who has been through so much(Ahalya), from the voice of a woman who has not suffered any less(menaka). #Repost @indianbibliophile_ with @get_repost ・・・Thank you @indianbibliophile_ 🙏🏼❤️ #prompts : 3, 11, 15 #thebibliolaters #madeinindiareadathon #Weekendreadingwithsonam #sofarsogood #bookstagram #book #bookworm #bookphotography #ahalyasawakening #kavitakane #bibliophile #indianbooks #menakaschoice #indianbookreaders #indianbibliophile #bookreview #readmorebooks #bloggingthefictionalworld #agoodbook #goodbooktoread #bookscommunity #writersofig #writersofindia #indiareads #readingskills #reviewskills https://www.instagram.com/p/CFY1ZhXp1M7/?igshid=159z2gq5k68de

“Menaka's Choice by none other than @kavitakane Ma'am It was such a wondrous experience!! Well I never thought that being a celestial nymph can be this painful, the way Menaka is being portrayed 🙌🏻🙌🏻 Every character was so well defined especially Vishwamitra like who could think that a celibate rishi would have such a beautiful and hurtful lovestory and that as well with not any normal being but a celestial nymph Menaka!!! The conversation of Menaka with Urvashi and Rambha was something which was actually required and was enough to satisfy. I really want to thank @kavitakane Ma'am for bringing her out to us!!”Posted @withregram • @shivangpal_ . #menakaschoice #kavitakane #indianauthor #bookrevirw #bookblogging #indianmythology #lovestory . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #menkaschoice #kavitakane #thekavitakanecollection #reader #readersofinstagram #shivang #shivangreads #shivangclicks #readreadread #menaka #vishwamitra https://www.instagram.com/p/CWUqszYg3Xh/?utm_medium=tumblr

‘Join us LIVE for the book conversation with #KavitaKane on her latest book #SarasvatisGift on 1st August '21 at 7 PM. About the author: A former senior journalist and author of seven novels, she has infused #feminism in her retellings of stories from the #epics and #Indianmythology. #KarnasWife her debut novel, (2013)was a bestseller. Her second novel #SitasSister (2014) is on Urmila, probably the most overlooked character in the #Ramayan. #MenakasChoice(2015) , another best-seller, is about the famous apsara and her infamous liaison with Vishwamitra the man she was sent to destroy. #LankasPrincess (2016) is her fourth book based on Ravan's sister, #Surpanakha, the Princess of Lanka who was also its destroyer. #TheFisherQueensDynasty (2017) realigning your reading of the #Mahabharata is an insightful look at the grand matriarch of the Kuru family, the woman who set off the sequence of events that ended in the bloody battle of Kurukshetra. #AhalyasAwakening (2019) is about #Ahalya, the paradox of a woman as a devoted wife and a promiscuous woman. About the book : Sarasvati, the feminine force worshipped as the goddess of learning, is a household name, yet we barely know much about the goddess. She is known as a lost river and seen as a singular goddess, never as part of a couple, such as Shiva-Parvati or Lakshmi-Narayan. In Sarasvati's Gift, Kavita Kane brings to light Sarasvati's story-the goddess of art, music and knowledge-told in the voices of nameless celestials, powerful gods and lesser mortals. The book explores her relationship with her Creator, Brahma, and their unusual marriage-a union of fiercely independent minds and the most non-conforming, unconventional of the Triumvirate couples. As these peripheral figures and silent catalysts take centre stage, we get a glimpse of an extraordinary woman and her remarkable story, obscured and buried under myths and legends.’ -Posted @withregram • @bookoholicsbookclub #liveinstagram #authorinterview https://www.instagram.com/p/CSBRb5lo8De/?utm_medium=tumblr

“ok is “We make love and leave. That is our motto. Live by it, Menaka, or you shall suffer untold, unnecessary grief” Title: Menaka’s Choice Author: Kavita Kané #kavitakane Genre: #IndianMythology, #Fiction Rating: 4/5 📚📚📚 This untold story is about the celestial nymph Menaka. As how we know her in regular stories, the author has not portrayed her as a heartless Apsara who just makes love to Sage Vishwamitra to stop his penance, upon Indra’s orders. I like how Menaka is shown to be a strong woman, who fights for her rights to bear a child born of love and not be crushed under the rules of “Heavens” as put by Indra. I loved the fact that unlike the regular stories known, Menaka is not just Shakuntala’s mother, but through the King of Gandharvas, Vishwavasu, she gives birth to her older daughter, Pramadvara. And that one episode of giving bits of her immortality to her daughter to increase her lifespan touched me. That’s how all mothers are! Indra is as jealous and insecure as we have heard of him and he manages to plot against sages, and ends up making a mess of the entire situation. Sage Vishwamitra has been characterised very well, very human. After his meet with Menaka, despite his knowledge, gives up his desire of becoming a Brahmarishi, which was quite expected. But as a human, more so as a husband and father, he is portrayed wonderfully. The best line of this book is “We make love and leave. That is our motto. Live by it, Menaka, or you shall suffer untold, unnecessary grief” I loved the book! I have special appreciation for the author because she has written specifically on women in our scriptures, who are not too popular! Thanks to her works, I have gained immense respect for Menaka, and apsaras in general. Menaka is a strong woman, and to me, she is not that seductress that everyone knows. She is a woman of pride and deserves to be treated with respect! Loved it!! ❤️” - Posted @withregram • @wandering._.pages._.love #menakaschoice #kavitakané #apsara #books #bookstagrammers https://www.instagram.com/p/CKsvC8HgfvG/?igshid=1tcxzdb7p0bq6

‘I read a lot of #women centric mythological books and I selected Menaka's Choice because I didn't know much about this story. We definitely need more stories such as this one with strong females who are often sidelined in general literature. #Apsaras are often only viewed as seductress and someone obsessed with superficial beauty. Here Menaka is shown to be someone who is sharply intelligent, with a good understanding of heavenly politics. She manipulates Indra on many occasions and even uses her beauty to her benefit in order to save the ones she loves the most. She is shown to have an abundant capacity for love and compassion, but she has a core of steel. She does not hesitate to do what must be done. And really loved this portrayal of Menaka. Along with Menaka we also also see other apsaras like Rambha Urvashi and Tilottama; their struggles and strengths and the way they are reduced to be mere pawns and objects of lust in Indra's petty schemes, despite being the one of the most powerful creatures in heaven. Menaka and Kaushik's love story is one big whirlwind of passion and power. They both bring out the best in each other. In the end they have to learn to let each other go in order to fulfill their destiny. I especially loved Kaushik's arc in this. From being an arrogant self centred king, he becomes a Brahmarishi, defying the bounds of tradition. And ofcourse Menaka alone was responsible for making him realise his true calling. We even see the story of Shakuntala, Menaka and Kaushik's daughter, in this. I loved how she was shown to be strong and fighting for her rights and I loved how strong Menaka and Shakuntala are in this I finished this just in time to make my last entry covering Prompt 3 and 8 for #madeinindiareadathon organised by @thebibliolaters ‘ - Posted @withregram • @a.perennial.reader . #menakaschoice #kavitakane #kavitakanebooks #booksbyfemaleauthors #indianauthorbooks #thebibliolaters #readathonreads #strongfemale #mythologicaltales #womeninmythology #strongfemalecharacters #womensupportingwomen #readingislearning📖 #mytho https://www.instagram.com/p/CFRkSGVpPKy/?igshid=quqsb5ptvl3l
