Princess Andrew's Meander Tiara
Tumblr media
The term “meander” is another word for the Greek key design that makes up the band of this tiara. No one seems to know precisely when Princess Andrew, who was born Princess Alice of Battenberg, acquired the tiara, but it would make sense that she received a Greek key tiara after marrying Prince Andrew of Greece and Denmark in 1903.
The tiara is made of diamonds, and the Greek key design is punctuated by a central laurel wreath element and two honeysuckle elements.
The tiara was handed over to Princess Anne, who still owns the piece today.
Zara paired her great-grandmother’s tiara with a veil for her Scottish wedding, paying tribute to her lesser-known royal heritage.

Sunderland's Royal Jewel Vault (18/∞) ♛
↬ Countess Wynn's Meander Tiara
The majority of the tiaras in the Sunderlandian collection were inherited through members of King Louis V's family, mainly previous queens Matilda Mary, Anne, and Katherine. This meander tiara however represents the current Wariwcks' French heritage, as it belonged to Queen Irene's mother, Marguerite Wynn. Countess Wynn was born in 1914 as Marguerite Delphine Lucie Chevrier. She was the eldest of four children born to industrialist  Phillipe Édouard Chervrier (1880 - 1950) and his El Salvadoran wife, Consuelo Romana Gomez (1892 - 1979). Margurite's family claims ancestry from both French and Spanish nobility, although the bulk of their impressive fortune was derived from Phillipe's ceramics factory in the south of France. Much of Margurite's early life was disrupted by the First World War, during which the Chevriers settled in Mexico City with Consuelo's sister. Following the war, Marguerite flourished in high Parisian society, becoming well-versed in the arts and fluent in several languages, including English and Spanish. Expected to marry into the French aristocracy, Marguerite made waves by instead marrying John Wynn (1911 - 1973), a career soldier from Sunderland whose great family had fallen on hard times following the deaths of John's three older brothers in the war. When the couple met in 1931, John was on a mindless trek across Europe, in search of a wealthy bride. Despite their differing backgrounds, Marguerite was smitten by John's optimism and good humour. The pair married a year later, with John even converting to Catholicism to appease Marguerite's parents. Their wedding was held at the Chapel of the Palace of Versailles, one of the last grand society affairs of interwar Paris. The tiara, which featured a Greek key design punctuated by a central emerald-cut yellow diamond, was among Marguarite's wedding gifts. The jewel is ambiguous in origin but is agreed to be an early twentieth-century creation, likely from Cartier. It became a useful tool in Margurite's arsenal as she erupted in Sunderland as one of the country's wealthiest society ladies. Pearlie, as she became known, was noted to be arrogant, intelligent, and ravishing. Pearlie is more "royal" than the rest of us combined. She drenches herself in jewels as if she were the ghost of the last Tsarina. — Queen Katherine, 1970
The Countess owned the tiara until 1968, when she gave it to her youngest daughter, Lady Irene, also as a wedding present. Irene's marriage to the future King Louis V was Pearlie's greatest life achievement and she became increasingly boastful. Maman Wynn, as she was called by the press and public, was known to meddle in royal affairs, especially the personal lives of her daughter and son-in-law. By the early 1980s, she was on bad terms with both. Irene was never seen wearing her mother's tiara, but she kept it in her own personal possession for almost thirty years. In 1997, Irene continued the tradition by gifting the tiara to her only daughter, Princess Jacqueline, ahead of her wedding to Lawrence Belmont. The wedding was coincidently the last public appearance of the old Countess Wynn. She died peacefully at Chester Palace the same winter. Since then, Jacqueline has worn the tiara regularly at state functions and in official portraits. It's among the princess's most cherished pieces.
The Countess Wynn wears the tiara in a portrait, circa October 1943, eight years before the birth of her youngest daughter, Queen Irene

this is gonna get very meander-y so i apologise in advance lol. i get why people are saying mitsuba does have a yorishiro and just kept it hidden but i do think it makes sense that he wouldn’t?
natsuhiko could just not really know mitsuba’s power very well/mitsuba could be not making an effort to save himself bc he’s self destructive, but like he said in 100 he doesn’t really want anyone but kou to be the one to kill him and to be such a footnote in tsukasa & sakura’s plan that they wouldn’t even be present for his death despite all of the broadcasting club being kind to him… that would be not just a meaningless death but a super insulting one!! why should he accept that. (i would also say he’s got a school dance to attend but he was pushing kou towards nene in 104 -_-)
also, it just kind of… makes sense that mitsuba wouldn’t have found anything important to him yet. imo the most likely candidate would have been the penguin keychain, but i’m pretty sure it was left to be eaten by the aquarium because it got broken, and i really don’t think mitsuba was lying when he said he didn’t have anything or anyone tying him to the near shore
…except for kou, now, sort of. i know a lot of people have at least considered the idea that he’d be mitsuba’s yorishiro, especially after the nightlife arc, and while i stand by mitsuba not having one as of 110 i do think it’s an interesting idea, esp. since the broadcasting club have (from mitsuba’s pov) now fully confirmed what he already believed about not belonging with them so kou really is mitsuba’s only potential tether to this world. my only big issue with this is that there’s… already been 2 human yorishiros. 3/7 would be kind of a lot for something that was initially a big reveal, and mitsukou being the first to do it with a still living human would kind of take focus away from the yugi twins, which does not feel like it’d line up with the direction the writing’s been going so far. but i think if mitsuba were to have a yorishiro at this point it would either be kou himself or something related to him – ive believed for a while it wouldve been the penguin keychain if it hadn't gotten destroyed. kou’s earring would be funny as hell to me so personally i’m hoping for that (joking. mostly)
so. a couple theories/predictions.
1) kou is showing up to save mitsuba. we haven’t seen him since before time was frozen (not even in the little flashes like those we got of mitsuba & tiara & yokoo & other random students), and we know the clock keeper magic had a weakened effect on him before (& teru was walking around just fine), so i doubt he’s fully stuck in time. having kou show up at the trial wouldn’t really add anything to the trial or kou’s own arc… so it just makes the most sense. also i don’t want mitsuba to die here :(
2) tsukasa doesn’t actually want mitsuba dead – he’s pushing mitsuba to create a yorishiro so it can be destroyed. realised the possibility of this halfway through writing this post lol but i the more i think about it the more it makes sense to me so i’ll write up another post later (hopefully one that’s more organised than this T-T)
3) mitsuba is going to make his yorishiro once kou arrives to keep his unspoken promise and save himself. i don’t have a ton of evidence for this other than it lines up with my previous 2 theories and again i don’t want mitsuba to dieeeee... not yet at least

hey girl im back again i think abt sideways like evry single day pls pls pls when r u releasing the next update 😞
Hello again! Thanks for checking in.
Unfortunately, I don't have much of an update. I'm still working on my original sci fi series. It's my top priority. I'm almost done with the first book and then I will be focused on posting it.
That said, "Sideways" is always on my mind and heart. It means a great deal to me, and I'm incredibly flattered that you think about it too.
I wish I had better news for where Part 5 stood in the pipeline, but to tide you over, here's an excerpt from it. I opened the fire-proof safe and dragged out the notebooks just for you!
This is from "Sideways" Part 5. I typed it up from the handwritten rough draft. There are no guarantee that it will be close to the final version or that it won't be cut in editing. But, here you go!
“And after that, you’ll be back in this other timeline, hmm?” Dr. Quigley reached for the bishop and then paused.  He picked up his tower instead.
The med bay lights always felt extra bright reflecting off the room’s metal surfaces.  Shepard squinted at the chessboard on Quigley’s desk.  A bold move.  Too bold.  She had to not be seeing something here.
“You must be good chums with Alenko in this other life?”
“Quite chummy.  You’re really buying this story I’m telling you?”
“Naturally.”  Quigley rested back in his chair and steeped his hands in front of him.  “My most recent head scans for you are a little outdated though.  And I do need to inventory the narcs.”
“Not all mental illness is anatomical.”  Shepard vacillated with her queen.  Two good choices.
“I’m glad you’re giving me more doctor’s advice.  We needed this workshop.”
“So,” Shepard said lightly, keeping her eyes on the board.  “How’d Kaidan take the news?  You told him about the . .. permanent damage.”  Whatever medical consequences there were to his Red Death, the doctor had hinted at but refused to tell her.
She set the queen on the black square near his tower.  Slowly lifting each finger off, she leaned back in her chair.
Quigley snatched her queen up with his rook.
“Dammit.”  She was losing her touch.  Or maybe just her concentration.  “You can answer my question though, right?  I’m not asking what you told him, just the reaction.”
“I don’t see much purpose sharing that.”  Quigley dropped her queen beside the board. He made a prompting motion for her to continue.
She gave up any pretense and looked Quigley in the eye.  “Was he all right?”
“Seems to be, doesn’t he?” Quigley nodded at the mess hall over her shoulder.
Kaidan stood at the coffee machine, trapped between Cortez and Allison, listening to one of Adam’s tales, replete with exuberant hand motions.  Allison seemed to be the only one not anticipating the laugh beats.
Shepard sighed. “Hell. You’re right.  I’m being nosey.”
“I'm already sold on you being another Shepard.  Saying ‘you’re right’ is just overkill.”
The med bay doors slid open with a hiss air.  Cicero cut a clean figure in a well-pressed uniform and pressed-lipped smile.
“Here for medical treatment?” Shepard asked.
He wasn’t, of course.  His eyes had zeroed directly on her the moment his squeaky boots hit the threshold.
“I am to understand that you deserve congratulations.”  Cicero meandered slowly along the counter toward them.
“I don’t think so. The doc’s beat me.  Just took my queen.”
“Ah, that delightful humor.”  Cicero tapped a tray of scalpels as he passed it.  “Those have water stains.”
“Oh, dear.”  Quigley clutched his chest.  “I wondered what killed my last patient.”
Cicero ran his hand under the edge of the cabinets and examined it with rubbing fingers.  “This whole bay could use a thorough clean.”
“No objection here.”  Quigley shrugged.
“Anyway.”  Cicero ambled to the desk.  “You’re acting counselor or so I heard on ANN.“
“Forgot my tiara and sash downstairs, but yes, you heard right.”
“Congratulations then.  I’d share a glass of wine with you, but it’s been adulterated.  The antichrist must be aboard. Rather than water to wine, it appears wines can become water.”
“I wouldn’t be surprised if he was,” she said simply.
“Regardless, a handshake will have to do.”
“Not even that is necessary,” she said begrudgingly, but shook his proffered hand.
She checked her palm after drawing back.  There hadn’t been a noticeable sting, but she’d been fooled before with a handshake.  Nothing seemed amiss though.  He was trying to unsettle her with his politeness.
“I suppose the late Councilor Wilson would be grateful seeing you take bat.  He had grown rather close to you and Alenko.  That is, before the end.”
“Uh huh.”  Shepard’s blood pumped.  “If you give me a ‘God rest his soul,’ Cicero, I swear . . .”
“Swear what?  I think it’s well-established that attacking me, at least publicly, is not a route without consequence.”
Shepard lurched to her feet, knocking chess pieces over on the desk.  “Thanks for the handshake and veiled threat.  I’ll see myself out.”
“Ah, ah.  Not so fast.”  Cicero caught her elbow then quickly let go.  “Though my wine’s off the menu, I would be pleased if you’d join me in my cabin for conversation.”
“I’d rather be waterboarded.”  She shot toward the door.
“So sure?  Well, that is a shame.  There’s something you may like to hear.”
Her feet caught.
She urged herself toward the door, even lifted a hesitant hand to the open button.  She should have taken Kaidan’s advice the first time.  Nothing good ever came out of a conversation alone with Cicero.
“About what?” She couldn’t help herself.
“Dr. T’Soni.”
Shepard’s gut twisted.
“Well, if you change your mind, you know the floor number.”  He strolled around her.
Frozen in place, she could only watch his retreating back.  He cast a thin smile over his shoulder before disappearing through the door.

👑 Day Six: Favorite Spanish Tiara
The Prussian Diamond Tiara
Details from The Court Jeweler:
The tiara is sleek and balanced, a small diamond and platinum kokoshnik featuring a quartet of design elements. A band of laurel leaves crowns the top of the tiara, resting on a set of gem-set columns and a meander base. In the center of the tiara, a pear-shaped double diamond cluster pendant is suspended from a single round stone. The pendant gives the tiara a little bit of kinetic energy, as it moves when the wearer moves.

to me; to those struggling with acne; to the others, too;
a little bit of hope for beauty
I have acne, of the prolific type
of the sort that rises early and never really leaves
the one that erodes face and chest and shoulders
the one that becomes part of you
I still can't love it
not yet
but I will
and it will be beautiful
I will wear my acne scars like a constellation of jewels
parading with a soft-spoken pride as some do about their freckles
skin of toned-down gold embeded of dark rubies and volcanic amethysts
the head high and the eyes regal, a tiara on the cheeks
my pitted skin like a bas-relief of old
a delicate carving of stories untold
like an old piece of warm-colored wood
scarred and faint, that reeks of tenderness
like a sheepskin that tells its tale behind the words
a testament of love and time, an artifact of growth and warmth
like a living kintsugi
a scratch on a well-loved toy
the flesh mountainous and sensible from healing
a meandering path to be explored at dusk and traced by the lips
a small little wonder to be embraced and teased
the peculiar touch of this skin, the signature of a beloved and beloving body
the skin that screams of "I love you"
and forces you to scream it back

Royal Tiaras Highlights: The Nine Provinces Tiara
The piece was a wedding gift on behalf of the Belgian people to Princess Astrid of Sweden, on the occasion of her wedding to King Leopold III of Belgium. It was made by 1926 by Van Bever. The complete version of the tiara has only been worn by Belgian Queens.
This piece is incredibly flexible. The original tiara was a meander bandeau topped by a series of large, round diamonds on spikes; it was able to be worn with or without the top pieces from the start. Queen Astrid added a series of interlocking diamond arches over the top of the large diamonds and Queen Paola has worn the meander base of the tiara alone as a choker necklace. Additionally, the piece can be worn with the arches but without the diamond spikes.
